Firoozeh Dumas The F Word Analysis
The F Word by, Firoozeh Dumas, is about how ethnic people with hard or ethnic names can be
mistreated and mispronounce. When she came to America many kids and teachers would
mispronounce her name and they would sometimes shorten it to make it easier. In the fifth grade she
wanted to change her name to be more American to be able to fit in. She changes her name to Julie
which people actually remember. People and kids remembered her name and her life became simpler.
Although people though she was American and not Irian some people would call bad name to those
who are Irian. She went back to using her real name in college but once she graduated she was being
rejected in jobs even though she graduated at UC Berkeley with honors. When she changes

Communication Patterns of Children During Conflict Essay...
As we grow up, we are socialized into the proper norms to be successful in society. The socialization
process starts right from birth. Babies observe and try to mimic their parents and eventually their
siblings or peers. Conflict is a part of life that children need to use to develop skills on resolving
disagreements; conflict is not always bad. Peer conflict, however, can lead to aggressive behavior
because of significant emotional and physical harm. Many youth lack the social skills needed to
handle their aggravation.
Peer conflict communicates joint disagreement or aggression between peers or peer groups. Peer
conflict is characterized as conflict between people of equal or similar power also known as friends.

Adults mediate children s interaction and in doing so adults need to learn the necessary tools to
helping our children handle conflict. In school and at home, it is important to help develop social
skills. Skills such as building friendships, emotional regulation, problem solving, and being supportive
are best learned at an elementary school age. Children are taught what is socially acceptable through
reward and consequence. Once children reach adolescents age, it is best to teach conflict resolution
techniques. By implementing peer mediation, the children learn how to recognize a conflict and learn
how to resolve a conflict on their own. At the middle and high school age level, it is also important to
practice respectful and positive behaviors. At this age adolescents are going through hormonal
changes and if adults focus on practicing positive respectful behaviors the habits will form and the
child will have the natural skills to interact at an adult level.
Focusing on the individual, factors of peer conflict like problem solving, self regulation, and language
are linked with youth who engage in aggressive behaviors toward their peers. The International
Journal of Language Communication Disorders, Interaction Before Conflict and Conflict Resolution
in Pre School Boys with Language Impairment, addresses the factors associated with peer conflict.
The authors of this article explain that children with language

American Funding Of Nazi Eugenics
American Funding of Nazi Eugenics
Eugenics is a complex term that has been studied and discussed internationally and throughout the
eras. A basic definition of eugenics is the scientific study of race improvement. The definition is then
broken up into two different aspects, positive eugenics and negative eugenics. Positive eugenics is
defined as improving a race by focusing on ways to increasing the better population. Incentives are
given to those superior races or populations to have children and get married. On the other hand
negative eugenics is decreasing the chances of the inferior race or population from having children.
This type of negatives eugenics is trying to stop those who are determined on having inferior genes
from passing on their inferior traits that would corrupt the population as a whole. The whole study of
eugenics is based on the theory that the gene a person is born with determines their outcome in life.
Using this theory some scientists are given a way to justify categorizing groups of people into superior
or inferior classes based on race. The study of eugenics was discussed around the world having the
main powers being in Great Britain, Germany, and the United States.
Nazi Germany is one of the most notorious cases of eugenics being put into practice on a large scale.
Before reading The Nazi Connection: Eugenics, American Racism German National Socialism by
Stefan Kühl, I knew that Nazi s used eugenics to justify killing off Jews, handicap

Essay about Salvation by Langston Hughes
Salvation by Langston Hughes
Salvation , by Langston Hughes is part of an autobiographical work written in 1940. The author
narrates a story centering on a revival gathering that happened in his childhood. During the days
leading up to the event, Hughes aunt tells him repeatedly that he will be saved , stressing that he will
see a light and Jesus will come into his life. He attends the meeting but when Jesus fails to appear, he
is forced by peer pressure to lie and go up and be saved . Hughes uses his story to illustrate how easy
it is for children to misinterpret adults and subsequently become disillusioned.
Adults sometimes forget that children communicate on a much more literal level than they do; their
conversation is often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As time passed the congregation became more and more animated, wailing for Hughes to come up and
be saved. Hughes became more and more impatient and extremely agitated. At the same time he must
have been very curious as to why all the others were going up to the altar.
During childhood we begin to learn the meaning of integrity. Having patiently awaited Jesus?
appearance for what must have seemed an interminable amount of time, the pressure on Hughes to get
up and go to the altar must have been ponderous. Finally, when Jesus failed to make an appearance
that evening Hughes had a choice of continuing to wait or rising and satisfying the expectations of the
congregation. In making his decision to approach the altar, Hughes is fearful, as most children are
when disobeying the ?rules?. Hughes? reticence in coming forward probably reflects his type of up
bringing, and he watches his friend to see what punishment God will mete out and bases his decision
on the fact that nothing appears to happen. In embracing his friend Westley?s deception, in being
saved without seeing Jesus, and because of his own up bringing, Hughes had to acknowledge his own
dishonesty.
Children trust the words of adults and despite the misunderstanding associated with the words his aunt
used, Hughes believed her unquestionably. Later that evening when his aunt heard Hughes crying in
bed, she assumed it is because he had been moved by his experience at church in receiving

The Fight Over the Redwoods Essay
The Fight Over The Redwoods
Abstract
Pacific Lumber Company, founded in 1869, oversees the careful maintenance and logging of the
world s most productive timberland. Pacific Lumber holds the last private forest of old growth
Redwood. In addition to it s unique hardwood, the Redwood forest hosts an ecosystem supporting
virgin ground never logged, and the endangered Marbled Murrelet. After being purchased in 1985 by
the Maxxam firm and it s owner Mr. Hurwitz, Pacific Lumber tripled logging volume and looked to
log the previously privately protected Redwood forest. Due to the use of junk bonds for financial
backing, Maxxam Inc. needed to dramatically increase revenue streams to make interest payments
which resulted in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the ecosystem supporting our way of life collapses, so does our way of life.
Question 2: Although land ownership is an individual right, what takes place on that land is still a
concern for governing agencies. In this case, the impact to ecosystems covers an area greater than just
the area owned by one individual or firm. Controlling the impacts of the landowners operation
mitigates the impact to other landowners in the area. Owning land still requires a reasonable person to
behave in a manner consistent with the law of the land. In this analysis, a gentlemen named Hurwitz
backed Maxxam Inc. to purchase Pacific Lumber. Hungry for profits, he altered Pacific Lumber s
focus to the short term profitability of the firm, instead of long term sustainment of the business. Poor
business practices put Maxxam Inc. in a position requiring a fixed amount of income to pay loan
interest and fees. Hurwitz never assessed whether or not he could sustain payment with current
operations and was forced to increase operations to make profitability still viable. (The Terrestrial
Environment, 1998)
Question 3: Mainstream environmentalists were correct to stop Pacific Lumber from ravaging it s
timberland. Prior business practices provided ecosystem shelter for endangered species and protected
virgin forest from being logged. Changes to federal

Fice And Parks And Recreation
The Office and Parks and Recreation are two widely popular shows that capture their audiences with
their unique story lines, mockumentary style, and captivating characters. These two shows have won
many awards and are praised by critics and viewers. When analyzing these shows it was important to
pay attention to their narrative structure. Also, breaking the fourth wall gave these shows a twist that
was different from other situation comedies. The characters are loveable and funny and truly develop
the simple plots. The Office and Parks and Recreation are two situation comedies with a firm grasp on
the concept of narrative structure with intriguing characters that have developed through their many
seasons. The Office and Parks and Recreation have succeeded in many aspects. They have been
nominated numerous times, won many awards, have positive reviews all over the internet, and
continued their show throughout many years. Both of these shows are situation comedies in the
workplace environment. The Office is based in Scranton, Pennsylvania and it is a functioning paper
company called Dunder Mifflin. The show was created as a faster paced, Americanized version of the
British version of The Office (TV.com). A documentary film crew came in to this paper company to

Affordable housing in the United States describes sheltering units with well adjusted housing costs for
those living on an average, median income. The phrase usually implies to applied rental or purchaser
housing within the financial means of lower income ranges specific to the demographics of any given

A Day Late And A Dollar Short Summary
One thing I do know about men and kids is that they always come back. They may be a day late and a
dollar short, but they always come back. Viola, A Day Late and A Dollar Short
As the title is mentioned in the book for the first time it sums up and foreshadows the events in the
book. A day late and a dollar short means a missed opportunity and also being unprepared at the time.
Against all that Viola, the narrator, believes that men and kids always come back.
Summary
Viola the mother of four children works to put her family back together in the short time she has left.
In the hospital from an asthma attack she comes to realize that she won t survive the next asthma
attack she has. Instead of telling this to her family, she keeps it a secret to keep them from worrying
about her. Not until after her death do the the family resolve their petty quarrels when cecil discovers
letters written by viola for each family member to read to another.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Commercialisation Of Sports
Sports have been more commercialised today. The media promote the commercialisation of sports.
They provide needed publicity and create and maintain spectator interest among large numbers of
people. There are many forms of media to show sports such as social media, radio,
TV and newspapers. Radio was the first form to show sports and now TV is the most powerful form
for spectator to access for sports and events all over the world. The Internet has also provided an

Commercialisation goes hand in hand with sponsorship and treats athletes as commodities.
For e.g. Cristiano Ronaldo wears NIKE shoes to promote the brand. He is being treated as an asset to
the NIKE Company through product endorsement which helps to bring increased sales and more
publicity for products.
There are advantages and disadvantages of commercialisation that affect sports. The advantages are
essential funding alternative for sporting organization and events (substantial funding either for the
operations or sponsorship of a particular event or an athlete will be helpful and eradicate the need to
be constantly source for a variety of funding resources), alternative revenue source for athletes
(revenue sources may encourage more athletes to consider a full time career or be moving from the
semi professional level to the professional level), increase media exposure of a sport and its athletes
(help to raise the profile of the sport and bringing in more sponsors for the sporting organisation and
its athletes), exposing sporting activity to a wider audience (bringing in new fans of a sport and
thereby increasing spectatorship and participation) and development opportunity for both the sport and

I. Many people may not know that there are different types of United States citizens. A person is either
a natural born citizen or a naturalized citizen. Natural born citizens were born here and given
citizenship right away. Naturalized citizens are immigrants that followed the steps to citizenship.
Naturalization, the process to become a United States citizen is a lengthy procedure that includes
much paperwork and many legal affairs.
II. There are certain items that are required to enter the country.
A. The green card allows an immigrant to live in the country permanently.

America does not allow or disallow dual citizenship.
2. It simply does not recognize the other country as your home.
3. Many dual citizens say it is a blessing to be a citizen in multiple countries.

C. The conflict between the dual citizens and the military are as follows.
1. There is controversy about of a dual citizen can serve in the armed forces.
2. This is again due to security requirements.
3. One argument is that a dual citizen could be communicating with the other country they call home.
4. The other argument is that the dual citizen would not have become a citizen just to spy on the
military.
VI. Illegal immigrants in the United States are turning into a massive problem. Illegal immigrants

that there was no gladness when I was born. My twin brother died and took my mother with him.
Everyone was waiting for the first born boy to lead us, but he died and I didn t (Whale Rider, 2002).
Her grandfather often reproves her for being a girl because only boys can carry on the ritual of being
the descendant of the divine Whale Rider of the Sea. Her grandfather looked her with disdain and
viewed her as a load because she could not realize this role, even although she was always trying to
satisfy him of her odds. For example, when her grandfather s boat s string was broken, Paikea took the
lead to tie the string back and rev up the motor. Without accept her cunning, he discards her ability and
tells her, don t do that again, it s dangerous (Whale Rider, 2002).

How Did William Tweed Lead To The Tamobilier Scandal
William Tweed was the boss of Tammany Hall. Tammany Hall was a political organization that was
formed in 1789 and was in opposition to the Federalist Party. The business was very popular in its
time for the willingness it had to help the city s poor and immigrant populations. William Tweed,
however, corrupted the company s reputation, and turned it into an image of greed and twisted motive.
As political boss, Mr. Tweed used his formal and informal authority to make profit for himself and the
other accomplices. The group altogether became known as the Tweed ring, and somehow they found a
way to extort an estimated $30 million to $200 million. Tweed used this money to become one of the

This company was given contracts to build railroads. Congressmen were then offered great shares in
the construction which allowed the congressmen to approve federal payments without paying attention

The Causes And Impacts Of Theodore Roosevelt s Foreign Policy
Brendan Crowley Mr Gelpke USH 2 Period 2 19 October 2017 After the untimely death of William
Mckinley, on September 14th 1901, Theodore Roosevelt assumed the presidency. Using his aggressive
Big Stick Diplomacy and his progressive policies like the Square Deal, he ushered The United States
into the 20th century resulting in his spot as one of the top five presidents of all time. Roosevelt s most
important foreign policy was the establishment of the Panama Canal. This was developed during the
Spanish American war as a way for American ships to get from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic. After
Roosevelt saw American ships had to go all the way around the tip of South America to get to Cuba,
Roosevelt negotiated with Britain for the support of an American controlled canal through Panama
owned by Colombia. However this canal could only be built with Colombia s agreement. Colombia
stalled because of the terms of agreement and the USA supported a Panamanian revolution resulting in
Panama giving the United States control of the canal for a price of 10 million dollars and annual
payment of 250,000 dollars. Roosevelt also drafted a document called the Roosevelt Corollary which
said the United States would intervene in any Latin American Country that manifested serious
economic problems. This was after Germany and Britain had sent ships to Blockade Venezuela s coast
line after they had a debt they refused to pay. Although Roosevelt didn t want to lose allies in Europe

But how must one help the poor, who is entitle to receive that help and who are the ones to give that

Lactose Intolerance And Its Effects On The Body
Lactose intolerance occurs when the body is unable to properly digest foods which contain lactose.
Lactose is the sugar found in milk and foods made with milk. Lactase is the enzyme which is
produced in the small intestine, and people with lactose intolerance tend to have a deficiency in
lactase. Since lactase is produced in the small intestine, lactose intolerance affects the digestive system
and leaves people with symptoms which to their digestive tract. Lactose intolerance can also be
known as lactose malabsorption since the body does not properly digest lactose. Lactose intolerance is
normally harmless; however, the symptoms can be extremely uncomfortable to most people. The signs

However, it stays high enough to still digest the amount of dairy which is found in an adult diet. When
someone has primary lactose intolerance, the production of lactase falls off quickly and makes it
difficult to digest milk products by adulthood. Genetics determines if someone has primary lactose
intolerance. Primary lactose intolerance occurs in a copious amount of people with an African, Asian,
or Hispanic background. This disease is also very common in people who are of Mediterranean or
Southern European descent. The second type of lactose intolerance is called secondary lactose
intolerance. This type of lactose intolerance occurs when an illness, surgery or surgery involving the
small intestine causes the small intestine to decrease in lactase production. There are multiple different
diseases associated with secondary lactose intolerance including celiac disease, bacterial overgrowth,
and Crohn s disease. There s a possibility of restoring lactase levels and improving the symptoms or
signs by treating the underlying disorder; however, it could take some time after treating the disease
for lactase levels to increase. The last type of lactose intolerance is called congenital or developmental
lactose intolerance. Rarely, babies can be born with lactose intolerance which is caused when lactase
activity is completely absent. This disorder of being born lactose intolerant is passed from generation
to generation meaning is it also determined by genetics. The pattern

Tartarsals
At the bottom of the Missouri s streams lives the Lampsilis siliquoidea mussels where it lives out its
life cycle. How it lives it s brilliant life cycle is first by luring a smallmouth bass over to it by
copycatting the movement and the appearance of a Tartars fish tail which is actually the skin of the
mussels which has over time evolved. Once the bass notices the lure and strikes the lure the muscle
spews out a white cloud into the bass s mouth and gills which happen to be thousands of larvaes where
they will live off the bass for nutrients. Its also safer for them to transition from larvae into juvenile
mussels. After a couple of weeks the young mussels abandon the bass dropping leaving the basses

I never imagined they would be using a fish and other smallmouth basses to spread their younglings.
What surprised me the most about these different mussels was how much they have evolved into the
different ways they disrupted their youngs. For example the Higgins eye pearlymussel has flaps that
represent a minnows in their appearance and the mussels move this flap imitating the tail movement of
the minnow. Then the fishes will bite down on the flap making the mussels distribute their larvae into
their gills. Others will take a less freeloading approach and use their tongue like a foot moving up
riverbanks where they spread their larvae making this approach less about waiting for a host but will
not guarantee that most of the larvae will survive until youthhood. I think personally the best way for
these creatures to repopulate is to use the method that the fish snapper use which I think happens to be
the most riskiest too. As I explained before in the early paragraph the snapper will display its flesh and
snapping its mouth closed onto the head of the fish force feeding its larvae into the mouth of the fish.
Overall I thought that this was a very interesting article that brought attention to how mussels

The main body of the story revolves around six cycles of apostasy, repentance, and deliverance. God
intervenes time and again to rescue the struggling Israelites from military oppression, spiritual
depression, and ethnic annihilation.
The book of Judges derives its title from the Latin Liber Judicum, but the Hebrew title is shophetim.
The verbal form ( to judge ) describes the activity of the various deliverers whom God used despite

They introduce a series of contrasts between good and evil judges, plus faithful and unfaithful kings.
As 1 Samuel opens, the era of the judges is still in the forefront, but it is fading fast. The leadership of
Israel rests on the undisciplined and elderly Eli, the high priest of the tabernacle at Shiloh and one of
the last of the minor judges (1 Sam 4:18). Throughout the early chapters of 1 Samuel, the author
draws a sharp contrast between Eli and his ungodly sons and the godly prophet Samuel. By the middle
of the book (1 Samuel 15 16), the same kind of contrast is drawn between Saul and David.
In 2 Samuel the narrative shifts to the reign of David as he rises above Saul s son Ish bosheth to
become the king, first of Judah and then of all the tribes of Israel (5:1 4). The book records David s
wars of conquest including the capture of Jerusalem and the relocation of the ark of the covenant to
the City of David (6:1 19). But the author also records David s failures: his adultery with Bathsheba
(11:1 26), Absalom s rebellion (15:1 18:30), Sheba s revolt (20:1 26), and the disastrous census (24:1
25). Like all the prophetic writers, the author presents a portrait of his historical figures from the
perspective of their faithfulness to God s covenant.

Whitman Against The Civil War
The discussion opened with the question of whether or not Whitman was a supporter of the war, as it
was obvious that he was against the suffering caused by it. There seemed to be a definitive consensus
that Whitman was against the war. The Civil War, in particular, pitted brother against brother, which
was exemplified in Whitman s prose, Two Brothers, One South, One North. Cory remarked that
Whitman glorified the wounded to prove that there was no true winner in war. This brought about the
discussion of Stephen s second question of whether Whitman s prose and poetry differed in focus and
in realism. For many of the class, it was felt that there was a vast contrast between his poetry and his
prose. Carrie argued that Whitman s poetry feels romanticized

Big Bang Timeline
Timeline of The Big Bang
The broadly accepted theory for the origin and evolution of our universe is the Big Bang model, which
states that the universe began as an incredibly hot, dense point roughly 13.7 billion years ago before
expanding into a large, unexplored cosmos; home to an unknown amount of planets and systems.
The universe begins with a cataclysm that generates space and time, as well as all the matter and
energy the universe will ever hold. For an incomprehensibly small fraction of a second, the universe is
an infinitely dense, hot fireball. At 10 35 to 10 33 seconds a runaway process called Inflation causes a
vast expansion of space filled with this energy. The inflationary period is stopped only when this
energy is transformed into matter and energy as we know it.
After inflation, one millionth of a second after the Big Bang, the universe continues to expand but not
nearly so quickly. The most basic forces in nature become distinct: first gravity, then the strong force
which holds nuclei of atoms together, followed by the weak and electromagnetic forces. By the first
second, the universe is made up of fundamental particles and energy: quarks, electrons, photons,
neutrinos and less familiar types. These particles merge together to form protons and neutrons. These
protons and neutrons come together to form the nuclei of simple elements: hydrogen, helium and
lithium. It will take another 300,000 years for electrons to be captured into orbits around these nuclei

Call Of The Wild By Jack London
Two of Jack London s most famous stories are Call of the Wild and To Build a Fire. Call of the Wild is
a novel about a dog named Buck, who is stolen away from his home in California and sold in Canada
to become a member in a dog sled team. Then Buck learns the law of club and fang, and he becomes
the leader of his team and eventually breaks away from captivity to become a wild dog roaming forest.
To Build a Fire, on the other hand, is a short story about a man who is traveling through Canada in
very cold temperatures. His hands and feet go numb, and he falls through the river. In the end he
freezes to death. Both Call of the Wild and To Build a Fire have some things in common, but they also
have a lot between them, as you will see soon.
One of the main things that these two stories have in common is their setting their physical setting, to
be exact. (This might actually be from part of Jack London s experiences, when he went to the Yukon
to search for gold. This sentence seems kind of out of place. What do you think? )Both Buck and the
unnamed man are set into a hostile, foreign environment (which one goes first, hostile or foreign?) full
of biting coldness and rough trails. Another lesson. So that was the way they did it, eh? Buck
confidently selected a spot, and with much fuss and waste effort proceeded to dig a hole for himself.
In a trice the heat from his body filled the confined space and he was asleep. When Buck was in
California, he had no need of worrying about

Goodyear Co Essay
Throughout the years Goodyear has been distributing its tires only through the company owned
Goodyear Auto Service Centers and franchised Goodyear Tire dealers. The decision of Goodyear
Company to broaden its distribution to Sears Auto Centers will have several advantages and
disadvantages related to this action.
Advantages: 1) Increase in sales in the short term, which will create an increase of market share in the
long term. Goodyear s sales are declined because of multi branding among mass merchandisers by
warehouse membership club stores and discount tire retailers. Also, customers are price sensitive and
they seek inexpensive tires at places such as Sears. 2) Expanded distribution. Sears has a strong
market presence and can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2) Goodyear s Tires brand image maybe hurt. Due to the fact that Sears sells mostly tires that are not
premium quality, consumers may start to think Goodyear as a moderate brand and not as a high
quality product as it has been positioned. 3) Consumers of tires are becoming more price conscious
and less brand loyal, thus they easily proceed into brand switching and erode the importance of
securing replacement sales through original equipment sales to vehicle manufactures. 4) Dealer
sponsored private label tires accounted for 15% to 20% of total replacement tire sales in the US in
1991.Many dealers are able to influence choices and push their private label tires to obtain higher
margins.
The above decision of Goodyear Company to distribute its tires to Sears Auto Centers should be
carefully implemented. As we know Goodyear tires have been positioned as high quality products and
as the advertising slogan communicates, The best tires in the world have Goodyear written all over
them . This means that well studied actions should be taken when it comes to distribute to places such
as Sears Auto Centers. The customers that go to department stores to replace their tires, they are not
really knowledgeable about the several types of tires. Thus, they choose on the basis of price or others
patronize with their dealers. As mentioned earlier, consumers are not brand loyal and they are

The Transformational Century And Historical Sources And...
1. Why is the 15th century called the transformational century and what historical sources and tools
can be used to verify this description! Please discuss fully.
While the 15th century had an abundance of things that collectively caused it to be called the
transformational century, such as the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the rise of the Byzantine Empire,
and the use of guns to fight battles, I believe that the printing press makes a strong statement about the
change in society. The reason the printing press stands out is it was a major change to how information
was exchanged. Prior to the invention of the printing press, it s estimated that only about 10% men/1%
women were literate (Willis, 2015). However, in 1674 literacy rates were 60% for men and 30% for
women (Harvard, n.d.). This increase in literacy rates greatly aided the Renaissance age by allowing
information to be spread much more rapidly than previously possible. Just as the printing press
encouraged the renaissance age, the renaissance age encouraged the use of the printing press. This can
be seen by the rapid increase in the number of towns that had printing presses in use, around 236
towns had their own print shops (Maxfield, 2009). This also caused ideologies to spread much faster
than, exposing people to previously unknown ways. Which in turn allowed people to develop their
own new ideas. This increased desire for knowledge is the heart why the 15th century is called the
transformational century. There

My Experience At Brinckerhoff Elementary School
During my practicum, my supervisor and myself have discussed what I have to do to meet my
practicum requirements. We have discussed the student that I will complete an assessment on and
what day. The student was due for a re evaluation and I was required to give him the Wechsler
Intelligence Scale for Children 5th Edition (WISC V). In order to prepare for the assessment, I used
the assessment tools at Brinckerhoff Elementary School, and practiced giving the test on my own. I
prepared the record form by marking where my starting points are located. Once completed, I focused
on the query items by going over what I would look for in each answer from the student. I also
ensured I knew what each test required, to allow the process to be less robotic. The school
psychologist and I discussed that she will be present during the first evaluations, to ensure that I am
doing a good job. The school psychologist informed me that she would do the assessment with me
until she feels I am 100% comfortable and confident to complete the assessment. This way, if I have
any issues, she will guide me without breaking the standardization of the test. When it came to picking
the test, my practicum supervisor determined what assessment would be used. She chose tests that
were suited best for the student s evaluation. At first, she had to see what the student was classified
with, and then determine what tests should be used to reevaluate the student. My supervisor chose the

Home Depot Functional Strategies Essay
Home Depots functional strategies are in many ways similar to Lowes. However essential differences,
while they are not always clear do exist between these competitors.
The human resources strategy of Home Depot is more prevalent than Lowes in my estimation. Home
Depot has an offering to contractors with advanced knowledge. The experience curve for employees
does exist for this industry. It would be imperative for top management to retain talent. The cost of
training a new employee that is not familiar with do it yourself projects could be expensive. The
knowledge that Home Depot employees have is a competitive advantage. Using this knowledge and
fostering it would be a way to distinguish itself for Lowes (Parnell, 2014). I would pay ... Show more

Evaluating the associations with loyal contractors and Angie s list to promote local rated contractors.
A priority would assess how Home Depot could build synergies with Angie s list where a contractor
would become more than a buyer but a supplier relationship for projects. Keeping the differentiator
and innovation in marketing ideas would be an area of focus to distinguish Home Depot. My vision
for an omnichannel approach is where a grill purchase is similar to the store but online, and then
delivered to one homes home that day. Weeks later the same consumer is in Home Depot and gets a
notification on one s smartphone or device asking to rate the grill previously purchased. In addition,
letting the consumer know that a cover and accessories for the grill previously purchased were on isle
3 and offered at a 20% discount for those items for taking the survey at checkout (Morrison, 2015).
Lowes marketing strategy appeals to a wider audience that Home Depot. Marketing to segmentations
would be an area for improvement for Home Depot offering more appealing differentiators for gender,
income, and ages. Currently, Lowes does a better job of marketing to a broad variety of consumers

Why Is Charles V A Powerful Empire
Charles V: Ruler of the Most Extensive and Powerful Empire
Charles V was the most powerful and influential monarch in European history. He was the son of
Philip I from Castille, heir to the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I and Mary, Duchess of Burgundy,
which gives Charles V jurisdiction over the German nation (1519) and Habsburg Netherlands (1506).
His mother Joana the Mad was the third child of the Catholic Monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand II,
earning him the authority over the Spanish Empire (1516). Born in Ghent on September 24, 1500, he
was exalted to royalty at at the young age of six. His vast kingdom extends from Spanish territories,
across central, western, and southern Europe, through the Netherlands and up to Austria. But with this
enormous supremacy comes the huge responsibility of governing geographically different domains,
politically and spiritually diverse people, and aristocrats. Because of the enormity of his dominion,
enemies were threatened that this will lead to a European hegemony. Hence, his authority was strewn
with revolts and wars. His vision to unite Europe in a Christian Empire encountered oppositions from
his people, especially to the Protestant Reformation. Although Charles V s ruled the most extensive
and powerful empire, he was both a success and a failure when implementing his ideas. This could be
seen through the revolt of the Comunidades and Germanias, the Influence of Erasmus, and as well as
Humanism in the court of Charles V.
Having ruled the Netherlands as Duke of Burgundy, the death of Ferdinand II prompted the young
monarch to travel to Spain and assume the position left by his grandfather. He governed over people
whose traditions and customs greatly varied his own, and communicated in a language he can barely
speak, making his rule feel like a foreign authority. However, the death of his paternal grandfather
Maximilian elected him as King of Germany in 1519 and required him to leave Spain, humiliating the
Spanish aristocrats and its people. His decision to leave Castile under Flemish nobles, specifically
Dutch cleric Adrian of Utrecht, enthused a rebellion that started after the death of Queen Isabella,
leading to massive political instability.

The Success Of Twilight, The Hunger Games, And Divergent...
Recent trends in pop culture have given a rise in movie adaptations based on young adult novels. The
success of Twilight, The Hunger Games, and Divergent are all common topics of today. An excellent
adaption that some may not realize is based off a book is the movie Howls Moving Castle, from
Studio Ghibli, a Japanese animation company that has had quite some success in the United States. It
may go against the grain in its portrayal of the novel when compared to current trends in novel
adaptions, however that s where it finds its strengths.
The criteria for judging an adaptation is different than it would be for an original script. First, it is
typically judged based on how well it follows the story. Are departures beneficial to its transition to
the big screen, or does it muddy the themes of the original novel? Second, how does the piece
transition to the big screen? Does the movie simply exist as an advertisement for the book, and finally,
the third criteria, does it add something to the experience that makes it a truly noteworthy stand alone
film.
Typically, for many young adult adaptations, audiences first read the book and proceed to quote the
movie word for word. Departures from the novel s original formula would create an outcry. When
Beverly Rodriguez, a local college student was asked whether a movie should follow the plot of the
book exactly, she stated, [s]ometimes it should follow it throughly because that s how people expect to
see it in the movie and get

drug originates from the ground. It is grown the same way that other edible plants are. Farmers grow
plants that humans eat, but why is marijuana different? Philosophically, marijuana is just a plant. The
main thing different with this plant is that it has addictive properties which most foods grown by
farmers do not have. When a human buys food at a store or grows their own, the person does not

Berlin Urban Voids
ARC303 Urban (Hi)Stories Berlin in Twentieth Century: Politics and Culture An Urban (Hi)Stories
about Voids Introduction: Berlin as Void In an official advertisement campaign of 1996, there was a
slogan written all over the city: Berlin wird (Berlin becomes). But Berlin becomes what ? Instead of a
proper predicate, we get a verbal void. In the worst scenario, as Karl Scheffler wrote at the end of his
classic 1910 portrait of the city, Berlin may forever to become and never to be. The twentieth century
urban history of Berlin was largely associated with the concept of voids. The voids that were created

This city s history has been written, erased, and rewritten throughout this violent century. Its legibility
relies as much on visible markers of built space as on images and memories repressed and ruptured by
traumatic events. At the start of the Twentieth century, Berlin s future would have followed a
completely different direction. In Walter Ruttmann s 1927 film Berlin: Symphony of a Metropolis, the
editing draws a large amount of the graphic and thematic parallels of a different group of people s
routine working life, people with machines or people and animals throughout the city. It shows a
highly lawful social condition. Even the conflicts and movements shown throughout the film are
coordinated in rhythmic and systematic order, forming a harmonious symphony about the
metropolitan. (Fig.1) This scene of flourishing united urban environment in the Weimar Republic
supposed to show a bright future of the city yet gradually lost in the following decades. As the war
destroyed tons of buildings in Berlin, left overwhelming ruins, the creation of voids in this city by the
politics was only about to begin. (Fig.2,

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
Wilde s The Importance Of Being Earnest explores various themes of love and marriage, especially in
Act 1, where marriage in Victorian society is widely contradicted as a very pleasant state, instead
using various comedic devises, such as puns, double entendres and inversions to mock its virtue and
morality.
Wilde creates comedy through the presentation of Victorian views on the functionality of marriage,
ridiculing it as a social tool. The fact that Victorian society does not value the love and romance of
marriage is witnessed from the exposition, where Algernon s mockery of social constraints is shown
through his statements of is marriage so demoralizing as that? and I really don t see anything romantic
in proposing. This cynical view creates vast amounts of disorder as Algernon s desire to escape his
responsibilities clearly overrides his desire to settle down. This is illustrated through his view that the
very essence of romance is uncertainty and therefore, perhaps, Victorian ideals, which dictate marriage
to be a conventional source of gain, are not suited towards his anti realist nature. Within his refusal to
follow social conventions of the Victorian era, whereby courtship is typically functional rather than
romantic, Wilde mocks the superficial tendencies of marriage as a social tool, as is displayed through
the proposal that marriage is demoralizing. This not only conveys the concept of futility in marriage
and loss of hope for a future that is not

Minimum Wage Advantages
The Benefits of Raising the Minimum Wage Controversy over the minimum wage has been constant
since it was originally instituted. The political parties still move to block the opposing party from
successfully implanting their ideals, causing either nothing to be accomplished or the situation to
worsen. B Solving the problems in our current minimum wage system presents a challenge because
little agreement exists regarding the wage gap between the rich and the poor, allowing the minimum
wage to fulfill its original purpose of protecting workers and keeping the economy in a healthy state,
and .how increasing the minimum wage would allow for more advantages economically with a minute
influence on employment rates. The increasing gap between the upper and lower classes has been a
concern for years, but now receives more attention because it serves as a prime argument for whether
or not to raise the minimum wage. For example, in Nick Hanauer s speech, Beware, Fellow Plutocrats,
The Pitchforks are Coming, he maintains that based on the current trend of how the gap is consistently
accumulating, the increasing gap could have serious implications, similar to those of pre
Revolutionary France. That was France before the Revolution and the mobs with the pitchforks,
explains Hanauer (00:03:50 00:04:00). If we do not do something to fix the glaring economic
inequalities... the pitchforks will come for us, he asserts, for no free and open society can long sustain

Comparing The Alien And Forgotten Planet By Doug Delanty
From the moment they are born, children are wondering about their world. Parents often enjoy
watching their children grow up and reflect upon what they discovered and what they have yet to
discover. In The Alien , Greg Delanty is describing expecting parents questions while awaiting a child.
Similarly, in Forgotten Planet , Doug Dorph describes children s imagination and compares it to
adulthood. The parents in these poems are able to rely upon space or visualize it as to having an
important role in the life of a child. Both The Alien by Greg Delanty and Forgotten Planet by Doug
Dorph use a motif of space as parents search to understand children; however, the parent figures in the
poems view space in different ways.
In The Alien , Delanty explains the anxious feeling that parents have before having a baby and uses
the motif of space to try to explain how parents try to answer some of the questions they have. As the
experience of having a child is new to these parents, they use a metaphor to compare their child to an
alien and a martian (Delanty 9, 11). This demonstrates that they are anxious because they neither
know how the child will behave nor how to cooperate with the new child. They also have other
questions about their coming child, expressed when Delanty writes, we re anxious/ to make contact, to
ask divers questions/ about the heavendom you hail from, to discuss/ the whole shebang of the
beginning end,/ the pre big bang untime before you forget the why

Plebeians Underdogs
Plebeians; The Underdogs of Rome
There are multiple reasons why the Plebeians were important to Rome. They were the farmers, the
tradesmen, and the soldiers. They did the brunt of the work. They were also the majority of Roman
citizens. I will attempt to explain why the Plebeians were so important.
Who were the Plebeians? What was their role in Rome? What occupation did they hold? How many of
them were there? All important questions. The Plebeians were members of the general citizenry in
ancient Rome as opposed to the privileged patrician class (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica.,
2014). They were either conquered people who came to live in Rome and eventually became Romans,
or people who sought refuge in Rome from political, criminal, ... Show more content on

Many of us can understand that. We have all been in the position of being the underdog, the one who
did it all and never got the credit. Perhaps that is why, in history, the Plebeians are painted as victims
and Patricians as power hungry, greedy noblemen. We feel like we can relate to them, and we do not

When she came to America many kids and teachers would mispronounce her name and they would sometimes shorten it to make it easier. In the fifth grade she wanted to change her name to be more American to be able to fit in. She changes her name to Julie which people actually remember. People and kids remembered her name and her life became simpler. Although people though she was American and not Irian some people would call bad name to those who are Irian. She went back to using her real name in college but once she graduated she was being rejected in jobs even though she graduated at UC Berkeley with honors. When she changes ... • 3. Communication Patterns of Children During Conflict Essay... As we grow up, we are socialized into the proper norms to be successful in society. The socialization process starts right from birth. Babies observe and try to mimic their parents and eventually their siblings or peers. Conflict is a part of life that children need to use to develop skills on resolving disagreements; conflict is not always bad. Peer conflict, however, can lead to aggressive behavior because of significant emotional and physical harm. Many youth lack the social skills needed to handle their aggravation. Peer conflict communicates joint disagreement or aggression between peers or peer groups. Peer conflict is characterized as conflict between people of equal or similar power also known as friends. These types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adults mediate children s interaction and in doing so adults need to learn the necessary tools to helping our children handle conflict. In school and at home, it is important to help develop social skills. Skills such as building friendships, emotional regulation, problem solving, and being supportive are best learned at an elementary school age. Children are taught what is socially acceptable through reward and consequence. Once children reach adolescents age, it is best to teach conflict resolution techniques. By implementing peer mediation, the children learn how to recognize a conflict and learn how to resolve a conflict on their own. At the middle and high school age level, it is also important to practice respectful and positive behaviors. At this age adolescents are going through hormonal changes and if adults focus on practicing positive respectful behaviors the habits will form and the child will have the natural skills to interact at an adult level. Focusing on the individual, factors of peer conflict like problem solving, self regulation, and language are linked with youth who engage in aggressive behaviors toward their peers. The International Journal of Language Communication Disorders, Interaction Before Conflict and Conflict Resolution in Pre School Boys with Language Impairment, addresses the factors associated with peer conflict. • 4. American Funding Of Nazi Eugenics American Funding of Nazi Eugenics Eugenics is a complex term that has been studied and discussed internationally and throughout the eras. A basic definition of eugenics is the scientific study of race improvement. The definition is then broken up into two different aspects, positive eugenics and negative eugenics. Positive eugenics is defined as improving a race by focusing on ways to increasing the better population. Incentives are given to those superior races or populations to have children and get married. On the other hand negative eugenics is decreasing the chances of the inferior race or population from having children. This type of negatives eugenics is trying to stop those who are determined on having inferior genes from passing on their inferior traits that would corrupt the population as a whole. The whole study of eugenics is based on the theory that the gene a person is born with determines their outcome in life. Using this theory some scientists are given a way to justify categorizing groups of people into superior or inferior classes based on race. The study of eugenics was discussed around the world having the main powers being in Great Britain, Germany, and the United States. Nazi Germany is one of the most notorious cases of eugenics being put into practice on a large scale. • 5. Essay about Salvation by Langston Hughes Salvation by Langston Hughes Salvation , by Langston Hughes is part of an autobiographical work written in 1940. The author narrates a story centering on a revival gathering that happened in his childhood. During the days leading up to the event, Hughes aunt tells him repeatedly that he will be saved , stressing that he will see a light and Jesus will come into his life. He attends the meeting but when Jesus fails to appear, he is forced by peer pressure to lie and go up and be saved . Hughes uses his story to illustrate how easy it is for children to misinterpret adults and subsequently become disillusioned. Adults sometimes forget that children communicate on a much more literal level than they do; their conversation is often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time passed the congregation became more and more animated, wailing for Hughes to come up and be saved. Hughes became more and more impatient and extremely agitated. At the same time he must have been very curious as to why all the others were going up to the altar. During childhood we begin to learn the meaning of integrity. Having patiently awaited Jesus? appearance for what must have seemed an interminable amount of time, the pressure on Hughes to get up and go to the altar must have been ponderous. Finally, when Jesus failed to make an appearance that evening Hughes had a choice of continuing to wait or rising and satisfying the expectations of the congregation. In making his decision to approach the altar, Hughes is fearful, as most children are when disobeying the ?rules?. Hughes? reticence in coming forward probably reflects his type of up bringing, and he watches his friend to see what punishment God will mete out and bases his decision on the fact that nothing appears to happen. In embracing his friend Westley?s deception, in being saved without seeing Jesus, and because of his own up bringing, Hughes had to acknowledge his own dishonesty. Children trust the words of adults and despite the misunderstanding associated with the words his aunt used, Hughes believed her unquestionably. Later that evening when his aunt heard Hughes crying in bed, she assumed it is because he had been moved by his experience at church in receiving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Fight Over the Redwoods Essay The Fight Over The Redwoods Abstract Pacific Lumber Company, founded in 1869, oversees the careful maintenance and logging of the world s most productive timberland. Pacific Lumber holds the last private forest of old growth Redwood. In addition to it s unique hardwood, the Redwood forest hosts an ecosystem supporting virgin ground never logged, and the endangered Marbled Murrelet. After being purchased in 1985 by the Maxxam firm and it s owner Mr. Hurwitz, Pacific Lumber tripled logging volume and looked to log the previously privately protected Redwood forest. Due to the use of junk bonds for financial backing, Maxxam Inc. needed to dramatically increase revenue streams to make interest payments which resulted in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the ecosystem supporting our way of life collapses, so does our way of life. Question 2: Although land ownership is an individual right, what takes place on that land is still a concern for governing agencies. In this case, the impact to ecosystems covers an area greater than just the area owned by one individual or firm. Controlling the impacts of the landowners operation mitigates the impact to other landowners in the area. Owning land still requires a reasonable person to behave in a manner consistent with the law of the land. In this analysis, a gentlemen named Hurwitz backed Maxxam Inc. to purchase Pacific Lumber. Hungry for profits, he altered Pacific Lumber s focus to the short term profitability of the firm, instead of long term sustainment of the business. Poor business practices put Maxxam Inc. in a position requiring a fixed amount of income to pay loan interest and fees. Hurwitz never assessed whether or not he could sustain payment with current operations and was forced to increase operations to make profitability still viable. (The Terrestrial Environment, 1998) Question 3: Mainstream environmentalists were correct to stop Pacific Lumber from ravaging it s timberland. Prior business practices provided ecosystem shelter for endangered species and protected virgin forest from being logged. Changes to federal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Causes And Impacts Of Theodore Roosevelt s Foreign Policy Brendan Crowley Mr Gelpke USH 2 Period 2 19 October 2017 After the untimely death of William Mckinley, on September 14th 1901, Theodore Roosevelt assumed the presidency. Using his aggressive Big Stick Diplomacy and his progressive policies like the Square Deal, he ushered The United States into the 20th century resulting in his spot as one of the top five presidents of all time. Roosevelt s most important foreign policy was the establishment of the Panama Canal. This was developed during the Spanish American war as a way for American ships to get from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic. After Roosevelt saw American ships had to go all the way around the tip of South America to get to Cuba, Roosevelt negotiated with Britain for the support of an American controlled canal through Panama owned by Colombia. However this canal could only be built with Colombia s agreement. Colombia stalled because of the terms of agreement and the USA supported a Panamanian revolution resulting in Panama giving the United States control of the canal for a price of 10 million dollars and annual payment of 250,000 dollars. Roosevelt also drafted a document called the Roosevelt Corollary which said the United States would intervene in any Latin American Country that manifested serious economic problems. Then the fishes will bite down on the flap making the mussels distribute their larvae into their gills. As 1 Samuel opens, the era of the judges is still in the forefront, but it is fading fast. The leadership of Israel rests on the undisciplined and elderly Eli, the high priest of the tabernacle at Shiloh and one of the last of the minor judges (1 Sam 4:18). Throughout the early chapters of 1 Samuel, the author draws a sharp contrast between Eli and his ungodly sons and the godly prophet Samuel. By the middle of the book (1 Samuel 15 16), the same kind of contrast is drawn between Saul and David. In 2 Samuel the narrative shifts to the reign of David as he rises above Saul s son Ish bosheth to become the king, first of Judah and then of all the tribes of Israel (5:1 4). The book records David s wars of conquest including the capture of Jerusalem and the relocation of the ark of the covenant to the City of David (6:1 19). • 26. Big Bang Timeline Timeline of The Big Bang The broadly accepted theory for the origin and evolution of our universe is the Big Bang model, which states that the universe began as an incredibly hot, dense point roughly 13.7 billion years ago before expanding into a large, unexplored cosmos; home to an unknown amount of planets and systems. The universe begins with a cataclysm that generates space and time, as well as all the matter and energy the universe will ever hold. For an incomprehensibly small fraction of a second, the universe is an infinitely dense, hot fireball. At 10 35 to 10 33 seconds a runaway process called Inflation causes a vast expansion of space filled with this energy. The inflationary period is stopped only when this energy is transformed into matter and energy as we know it. After inflation, one millionth of a second after the Big Bang, the universe continues to expand but not nearly so quickly. The most basic forces in nature become distinct: first gravity, then the strong force which holds nuclei of atoms together, followed by the weak and electromagnetic forces. By the first second, the universe is made up of fundamental particles and energy: quarks, electrons, photons, neutrinos and less familiar types. These particles merge together to form protons and neutrons. These protons and neutrons come together to form the nuclei of simple elements: hydrogen, helium and lithium. • 29. The Transformational Century And Historical Sources And... 1. Why is the 15th century called the transformational century and what historical sources and tools can be used to verify this description! Please discuss fully. While the 15th century had an abundance of things that collectively caused it to be called the transformational century, such as the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the rise of the Byzantine Empire, and the use of guns to fight battles, I believe that the printing press makes a strong statement about the change in society. The reason the printing press stands out is it was a major change to how information was exchanged. Prior to the invention of the printing press, it s estimated that only about 10% men/1% women were literate (Willis, 2015). However, in 1674 literacy rates were 60% for men and 30% for women (Harvard, n.d.). This increase in literacy rates greatly aided the Renaissance age by allowing information to be spread much more rapidly than previously possible. Just as the printing press encouraged the renaissance age, the renaissance age encouraged the use of the printing press. This can be seen by the rapid increase in the number of towns that had printing presses in use, around 236 towns had their own print shops (Maxfield, 2009). • 30. My Experience At Brinckerhoff Elementary School During my practicum, my supervisor and myself have discussed what I have to do to meet my practicum requirements. We have discussed the student that I will complete an assessment on and what day. The student was due for a re evaluation and I was required to give him the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children 5th Edition (WISC V). In order to prepare for the assessment, I used the assessment tools at Brinckerhoff Elementary School, and practiced giving the test on my own. I prepared the record form by marking where my starting points are located. Once completed, I focused on the query items by going over what I would look for in each answer from the student. I also ensured I knew what each test required, to allow the process to be less robotic. The school psychologist and I discussed that she will be present during the first evaluations, to ensure that I am doing a good job. The school psychologist informed me that she would do the assessment with me until she feels I am 100% comfortable and confident to complete the assessment. This way, if I have any issues, she will guide me without breaking the standardization of the test. When it came to picking the test, my practicum supervisor determined what assessment would be used. She chose tests that were suited best for the student s evaluation. At first, she had to see what the student was classified with, and then determine what tests should be used to reevaluate the student. My supervisor chose the specific assessments ... • 31. Home Depot Functional Strategies Essay Home Depots functional strategies are in many ways similar to Lowes. However essential differences, while they are not always clear do exist between these competitors. The human resources strategy of Home Depot is more prevalent than Lowes in my estimation. Home Depot has an offering to contractors with advanced knowledge. The experience curve for employees does exist for this industry. It would be imperative for top management to retain talent. The cost of training a new employee that is not familiar with do it yourself projects could be expensive. The knowledge that Home Depot employees have is a competitive advantage. Using this knowledge and fostering it would be a way to distinguish itself for Lowes (Parnell, 2014). I would pay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My vision for an omnichannel approach is where a grill purchase is similar to the store but online, and then delivered to one homes home that day. Weeks later the same consumer is in Home Depot and gets a notification on one s smartphone or device asking to rate the grill previously purchased. In addition, letting the consumer know that a cover and accessories for the grill previously purchased were on isle 3 and offered at a 20% discount for those items for taking the survey at checkout (Morrison, 2015). Lowes marketing strategy appeals to a wider audience that Home Depot. • 32. Why Is Charles V A Powerful Empire Charles V: Ruler of the Most Extensive and Powerful Empire Charles V was the most powerful and influential monarch in European history. He was the son of Philip I from Castille, heir to the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I and Mary, Duchess of Burgundy, which gives Charles V jurisdiction over the German nation (1519) and Habsburg Netherlands (1506). His mother Joana the Mad was the third child of the Catholic Monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand II, earning him the authority over the Spanish Empire (1516). Born in Ghent on September 24, 1500, he was exalted to royalty at at the young age of six. His vast kingdom extends from Spanish territories, across central, western, and southern Europe, through the Netherlands and up to Austria. But with this enormous supremacy comes the huge responsibility of governing geographically different domains, politically and spiritually diverse people, and aristocrats. Because of the enormity of his dominion, enemies were threatened that this will lead to a European hegemony. Hence, his authority was strewn with revolts and wars. His vision to unite Europe in a Christian Empire encountered oppositions from his people, especially to the Protestant Reformation. Although Charles V s ruled the most extensive and powerful empire, he was both a success and a failure when implementing his ideas. This could be seen through the revolt of the Comunidades and Germanias, the Influence of Erasmus, and as well as Humanism in the court of Charles V. Having ruled the Netherlands as Duke of Burgundy, the death of Ferdinand II prompted the young monarch to travel to Spain and assume the position left by his grandfather. He governed over people whose traditions and customs greatly varied his own, and communicated in a language he can barely speak, making his rule feel like a foreign authority. However, the death of his paternal grandfather Maximilian elected him as King of Germany in 1519 and required him to leave Spain, humiliating the Spanish aristocrats and its people. His decision to leave Castile under Flemish nobles, specifically Dutch cleric Adrian of Utrecht, enthused a rebellion that started after the death of Queen Isabella, leading to massive political instability. • 33. The Success Of Twilight, The Hunger Games, And Divergent... Recent trends in pop culture have given a rise in movie adaptations based on young adult novels. The success of Twilight, The Hunger Games, and Divergent are all common topics of today. An excellent adaption that some may not realize is based off a book is the movie Howls Moving Castle, from Studio Ghibli, a Japanese animation company that has had quite some success in the United States. It may go against the grain in its portrayal of the novel when compared to current trends in novel adaptions, however that s where it finds its strengths. The criteria for judging an adaptation is different than it would be for an original script. First, it is typically judged based on how well it follows the story. Are departures beneficial to its transition to the big screen, or does it muddy the themes of the original novel? Second, how does the piece transition to the big screen? Does the movie simply exist as an advertisement for the book, and finally, the third criteria, does it add something to the experience that makes it a truly noteworthy stand alone film. Typically, for many young adult adaptations, audiences first read the book and proceed to quote the movie word for word. Departures from the novel s original formula would create an outcry. When Beverly Rodriguez, a local college student was asked whether a movie should follow the plot of the book exactly, she stated, [s]ometimes it should follow it throughly because that s how people expect to see it in the movie and get ... Around the turn of the century, there was a spike in the increase of support; from 17% to 32% in 11 years (Nelson, Marijuana Legalization Support 1). The drug originates from the ground. It is grown the same way that other edible plants are. Farmers grow plants that humans eat, but why is marijuana different? Philosophically, marijuana is just a plant. The main thing different with this plant is that it has addictive properties which most foods grown by farmers do not have. Berlin Urban Voids ARC303 Urban (Hi)Stories Berlin in Twentieth Century: Politics and Culture An Urban (Hi)Stories about Voids Introduction: Berlin as Void In an official advertisement campaign of 1996, there was a slogan written all over the city: Berlin wird (Berlin becomes). But Berlin becomes what ? Instead of a proper predicate, we get a verbal void. In the worst scenario, as Karl Scheffler wrote at the end of his classic 1910 portrait of the city, Berlin may forever to become and never to be. The twentieth century urban history of Berlin was largely associated with the concept of voids. The voids that were created by the unique apartment buildings, also known as Mietkasernen with enclosed inner courtyards. Only one decade later, Albert Speer intended to create ... Its legibility relies as much on visible markers of built space as on images and memories repressed and ruptured by traumatic events. At the start of the Twentieth century, Berlin s future would have followed a completely different direction. In Walter Ruttmann s 1927 film Berlin: Symphony of a Metropolis, the editing draws a large amount of the graphic and thematic parallels of a different group of people s routine working life, people with machines or people and animals throughout the city. It shows a highly lawful social condition. Even the conflicts and movements shown throughout the film are coordinated in rhythmic and systematic order, forming a harmonious symphony about the metropolitan. (Fig.1) This scene of flourishing united urban environment in the Weimar Republic supposed to show a bright future of the city yet gradually lost in the following decades. • 37. The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde Wilde s The Importance Of Being Earnest explores various themes of love and marriage, especially in Act 1, where marriage in Victorian society is widely contradicted as a very pleasant state, instead using various comedic devises, such as puns, double entendres and inversions to mock its virtue and morality. Wilde creates comedy through the presentation of Victorian views on the functionality of marriage, ridiculing it as a social tool. The fact that Victorian society does not value the love and romance of marriage is witnessed from the exposition, where Algernon s mockery of social constraints is shown through his statements of is marriage so demoralizing as that? and I really don t see anything romantic in proposing. This cynical view creates vast amounts of disorder as Algernon s desire to escape his responsibilities clearly overrides his desire to settle down. This is illustrated through his view that the very essence of romance is uncertainty and therefore, perhaps, Victorian ideals, which dictate marriage to be a conventional source of gain, are not suited towards his anti realist nature. Within his refusal to follow social conventions of the Victorian era, whereby courtship is typically functional rather than romantic, Wilde mocks the superficial tendencies of marriage as a social tool, as is displayed through the proposal that marriage is demoralizing. This not only conveys the concept of futility in marriage and loss of hope for a future that is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social networking was not an aspect of life that appeared interesting to the average person before the early 2000s. This was because everyday people were still adapting to their first computer. Before the early 2000s, there was not a social networking website that had popularity to the extent of having a large amount of users. Though the idea for a social networking platform was in existence, those who helped advance technology did not have the tools needed to build a platform that would attract a range of people. • 39. Minimum Wage Advantages The Benefits of Raising the Minimum Wage Controversy over the minimum wage has been constant since it was originally instituted. The political parties still move to block the opposing party from successfully implanting their ideals, causing either nothing to be accomplished or the situation to worsen. B Solving the problems in our current minimum wage system presents a challenge because little agreement exists regarding the wage gap between the rich and the poor, allowing the minimum wage to fulfill its original purpose of protecting workers and keeping the economy in a healthy state, and .how increasing the minimum wage would allow for more advantages economically with a minute influence on employment rates. The increasing gap between the upper and lower classes has been a concern for years, but now receives more attention because it serves as a prime argument for whether or not to raise the minimum wage. For example, in Nick Hanauer s speech, Beware, Fellow Plutocrats, The Pitchforks are Coming, he maintains that based on the current trend of how the gap is consistently accumulating, the increasing gap could have serious implications, similar to those of pre Revolutionary France. That was France before the Revolution and the mobs with the pitchforks, explains Hanauer (00:03:50 00:04:00). If we do not do something to fix the glaring economic inequalities... the pitchforks will come for us, he asserts, for no free and open society can long sustain this kind of ... • 40. Comparing The Alien And Forgotten Planet By Doug Delanty From the moment they are born, children are wondering about their world. Parents often enjoy watching their children grow up and reflect upon what they discovered and what they have yet to discover. In The Alien , Greg Delanty is describing expecting parents questions while awaiting a child. Similarly, in Forgotten Planet , Doug Dorph describes children s imagination and compares it to adulthood. The parents in these poems are able to rely upon space or visualize it as to having an important role in the life of a child. Both The Alien by Greg Delanty and Forgotten Planet by Doug Dorph use a motif of space as parents search to understand children; however, the parent figures in the poems view space in different ways. In The Alien , Delanty explains the anxious feeling that parents have before having a baby and uses the motif of space to try to explain how parents try to answer some of the questions they have. As the experience of having a child is new to these parents, they use a metaphor to compare their child to an alien and a martian (Delanty 9, 11). This demonstrates that they are anxious because they neither know how the child will behave nor how to cooperate with the new child. They also have other questions about their coming child, expressed when Delanty writes, we re anxious/ to make contact, to ask divers questions/ about the heavendom you hail from, to discuss/ the whole shebang of the beginning end,/ the pre big bang untime before you forget the why ... What occupation did they hold? How many of them were there? All important questions. The Plebeians were members of the general citizenry in ancient Rome as opposed to the privileged patrician class (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica., 2014). We have all been in the position of being the underdog, the one who did it all and never got the credit. Perhaps that is why, in history, the Plebeians are painted as victims and Patricians as power hungry, greedy noblemen. We feel like we can relate to them, and we do not feel we can relate to the Patricians.
