Indian Conquistadors
Introduction
Author: Laura Matthew
By: Sonya Sheets
The First Trend: The First Epic
Spanish Conquest
• Politicians have capitalized anti-Spanish
conquest propaganda in Europe to
promote the war against Mexico.
• War was launched in 1846.
• William Heckling deserves recognition for
making the history of Spanish conquest
available in English.
• He wrote History of Conquest In Mexico
(1796-1859)
The Second Trend: The Spiritual
Conquest
• A controversy in whether the Natives will
switch to Christianity or stay with their
heathen ways.
• They indeed clung to Christianity.
• This religion was introduced as a solid
community attribute to the Mexican
Indians.
• The conquest was taken for granted.
The Third Trend: Loser History, or
the Spanish Conquest as a
Nonevent
• Bernardo Garcia believed that we could
not separate the difference between
Political and spiritual conquests.
• Cortes was known for having many
advantages over his officers, such as
cunning, intelligence, and charasmatic
appeal to his followers. That could very
well be why he lead his conquest to
oblivion of Spain.
The Fourth Trend: The Indians As
Conquistadors
• Conquistadors was a well known name by
the Indians, for they even implanted the
name into their language, perhaps a name
for a kind of Demi-god.
• The men known as conquistadors strove
to have an infinite meaning in their lives as
a conquistador. They were in search for
the meaning of life.
The Fourth Trend: The Indians As
Conquistadors
• Conquistadors was a well known name by
the Indians, for they even implanted the
name into their language, perhaps a name
for a kind of Demi-god.
• The men known as conquistadors strove
to have an infinite meaning in their lives as
a conquistador. They were in search for
the meaning of life.
