CHANGE MAKERS Mentor Teacher: Mrs. Pradnya Gokhale Group Leaders: Sonali Shah Cauveri Naliyanda Radhika Murthy Yashashri Watkar
FEEL Our mentor teacher took us on a mental trip to think what changes we would like to see in our society. We brainstormed and the most relevant problems identified were : Iliteracy Poor condition of education and poor facilities in municipal schools. Children begging on streets. Undernourished children. After a lot of deliberations we zeroed on bringing about changes in the condition of the children attending Maharshi Arvind Municipal school.
IMAGINE We visited the Maharshi Arvind Municipal School and talked to the principal Mrs.Madhu Parmar to assess the needs of the children. We brainstormed and decided to provide amenities like footwear, pencils, scales, erasers, pens and proper sound system in the municipal school.
DO In order to provide children the basic needs that would facilitate learning, we conducted pasti collection drive and collected 1800 kg pasti and generated a fund of Rs. 17,000.
Around 800 children of school donated stationery items which was collected by the core team of students and packed in paper bags which were prepared by the parent members of the eco club that runs in the school.
We taught origami to 250 children. This instantly brought smile on their faces!! There were colourful swans, boats, fishes, fans all over. We loved putting the boats in the water !!
We gifted footwear to children as they came barefoot to school.
We also gifted cupboards and two 50 watts speakers, which they now use to conduct their school assembly Look at the confidence of the girl as she talks to our classmate in NCC uniform.
We sang danced and played games together. We also conducted a quiz on environment.
CHANGES IN US NEW ERA STUDENTS We are very pleased with the new bond of friendship that we have formed with the municipal school children. We have become more caring and giving now than ever before. MUNICIPAL SCHOOL STUDENTS Municipal school children have got so attached with us that they have been urging us to come regularly to their school.
FUTURE PLANS We wish to continue to work with the children through out the year. Our future activities would focus on developing skills amongst children and on making children self reliant. We would teach them to make candles, pot painting, putting mehandi and would conduct an exhibition to sell these products. The money thus procured will be used for some other donations.
CELEBRATING THE BOND OF FRIENDSHIP THANK YOU
