2. 1. go-to guy
• go-to guy 關鍵球執行者;關鍵人物;能搞定事情人。
• Go-to guy是指能夠幫人,採取有效的行動來完成某件事。
• 這個詞來自於籃球。想像一下,比賽中,對手多了一分,
而比賽十秒鐘就要結束了。關鍵時刻,你就會想把球傳給
那個最可能投籃得分的球員。這個球員就是go-to guy。這
個詞衍生為能排解糾紛、能搞定難事的人。
• 例句:
• Talk to Phil about getting out of that ticket. He's your
go-to guy for that kind of thing. 向Phil談一下怎麼拿到

3. 2. forward
• forward 激進的、開放大膽的
• forward除了"向前",還含有"激進的、位於前面的"
含義。因此形容人時,forward可以指"前衛的、開
放的;有野心的、積極的"。
• The new manager was rather forward ;he did
most of the talking at the meeting. 新來的主管
很積極,整場會議都是他在講話。

• down-to-earth 腳踏實地
• 踏在地上,中文也有"腳踏實地"的說法,所以不難想
像。down to earth 形容人平易近人、事實求是、
很務實。

個很講求實際的人。如果你需要一些建議,應該和

• sweet 很周到、很貼心的人
• sweet是糖果、甜的東西。吃糖果的時候給人的感
覺是愉悅的、令人高興的,形容人的時候是指"替人
設想的",比較簡單類似的說話是用nice、kind,不
過sweet這個字更地道,男女通用。sweet talk可當
作「花言巧語」。

• brown-nose 馬屁精
• 喜歡拍人的馬屁人都可以說是 brown-nose. Brown-
nose 這個字也可以當動詞拍馬屁來用。另外一個口語
說法指馬屁精可以用 "Kiss up to sb".

們辦公室中最愛奉承別人的人。

• take no prisoners 態度強硬;毫不留情的人
• Prisoners是囚犯。take no prisoners在戰爭中軍官命令手下格殺
勿論、不留活口,就是用這個詞。take no prisoners引申為對人很
強硬、很難對付的人。
• 這個用法在戰場延伸到商場,有"只要能賺到錢,不在乎誰做,也
不在乎怎麼做"。

• 原則:rise是不及物,raise是及物。
• rise和raise這兩個字長得很像,意思又都是上升,所以很容易
搞混。raise用作動詞,意為"舉起"、"升起"、"增加"、"飼養"
等,只用作及物動詞,也就是後面一定要加一個受詞:
• He raised his voice. 他提高了嗓音。
• Her wages were raised. 她漲工資了。
10. 1. rise / raise
• He is a farmer and raises horses. 他是農民,同時又養馬。
• rise 意為"升起"、"上升"、"起床"等,是不及物動詞,不能
直接加受詞:
– The sun rises in the east. 太陽從東方升起。
• They all rose (from their seats) to greet us. 他們都站起來迎
接我們。
• 注意,有時 rise 後跟一個表示"價錢"、"高度"的詞,這個詞
是形容詞不是受詞。如:
– The river rose a foot in the night. 河水在夜間漲了 1 英尺。
– Gas rose 15% in price. 油價漲一成五。

• (不好) Could you make some space for the old women?
• (好) Could you make some room for the old women?
• 可否請你挪出一點空間給這位老婦人?
• 原則:讓位/挪出空間是room。
• room有兩層意思,一為"房間",是可數名詞;二表示人或物
體所占的"空間或場所"、處事的"餘地"等意思,是不可數。
make room for給......讓出地方;take up room占地方;
leave room for留出空間給......。space意為"空間",比room
抽象,是不可數名詞,表示萬物存在之處;作"空隙、空白"
解時,是可數名詞。
12. 3. reply / answer
• (錯) Who reply the telephone?
• (對) Who answer the telephone?
• 你應當馬上回覆這封信。
• 原則:answer=reply to,但reply不能用來接電話。
• reply和answer都是"回答",而且也都可以作名詞和動詞。
answer 比較一般,主要用於對問題、指責等的回答;reply的
用法較正式,多用於對問題作出解釋、辯論或陳述性回答:
• Answer this question. 回答這個問題。!
• I asked her the reason, but she didn't reply.我問她為什麼,
她卻不回答。
13. 3. reply / answer
• 當動詞時answer可直接跟受詞,而reply須與 to 連用;
answer 可表示對電話、敲門等作出的"應答",reply 則不能。
例如:
– Who answered the telephone? 誰接的電話?
• 作名詞時,二者都指"......的答案或答覆",均與 to 連用。例
如:
– I received no reply / answer to my request.我沒有收
到任何答覆。
• 如果是指練習題的"答案",一般用 answer。例如:The
answer to 6×10 is 60. 6乘以10 的答案是60。
14. 4. spend / take
• (錯)I took a week to finish reading the book.
• (對) It took me a week to finish reading the book.
• 我花了一周時間讀完這本書。
• 原則:It takes,I spend(這四個字朗朗上口就對了)
• spend"花費"其主詞一般是人:
• He spent 20 dollars on the pen.他花了20元錢買了這支鋼筆。
• take常用於佔用或花費"時間":
• The work will take us two hours. 這項工作將花費我們兩小時。
