The author recalls feeling depressed and emotionally turbulent during the difficult four-week transition period when their body and mind started shifting to the new way of eating. Friends and family challenged and doubted the change, making it even harder. Both the big lifestyle change and uncertainty that it would solve their health problems added to the difficulty.

Improving maternal health
- 1. Improving Maternal Health BY ANNA KAUR
- 2. Why does it resonate for you? Improving maternal health resonates for me because I want to be a labor and delivery nurse in the future and then hopefully, later on, become a certified midwife. While looking into this career I found out just how bad maternal health is for many people, and I want to help with this problem The UN website mentions how there have been around 289,000 maternal deaths globally in 2013 only. This is a big number and as someone who wants to go into this field it really hurts to see this number and I believe that by improving maternal health we can help lower this number
- 3. How can your interest be applied locally? My interest is helping improve maternal health and although there isn’t much that I can do locally there are still some things that I have found I can do to help One of the ways that I can help locally is by volunteering at hospitals or other health care facilities near me that help maternal health I can also donate to local funds that help with the treatment that maternal people need for their health since some people live in poverty and many also don't have health insurance to help with the treatment needed
- 4. Where can you personally make the greatest contribution? A place where I can personally make the greatest contribution is by studying hard to become a midwife like I plan to do. According to the UN website, midwives are helping deliver many babies and are also helping save lives in places like Yemen Along with this in places like Bangladesh, the government is helping people go back to school and become certified midwives. By becoming a midwife myself even if I am not able to go abroad in areas that truly need my help I can still help improve maternal health locally which would be my greatest personal contribution
- 5. Is there a feature of social media that can be uniquely applied to this goal? Since I don’t use social media much I am not sure if there is any feature that can be uniquely applied to the goal of helping improve maternal health. However, based on the little knowledge that I do have about social media I think we can still use it to help our goal By spreading awareness through the use of things like hashtags on social media we can help gain more knowledge about the issue of maternal health and maybe even get people to donate to funds that help with this goal
