Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court as a Dystopian Work
For years, Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court has been primarily viewed
as a work of simple satire. Twain, desiring to poke fun at a group of America s cultural critics, chief
among them Matthew Arnold, who claimed that cultural life in the U.S. treaded on shallow soil,
takes aim at the venerated institutions of Britain. The author attempts to show that his country s
lack of romanticized social structures, meaning an absence of royalty, the Catholic church, and long
dead knights and princesses, was far from a cultural weakness. Twain explodes the myth around
idealized chivalric society and proves it to be no match for the Nineteenth ... Show more content on

Here, as in much of Tom Sawyer and most of Huckleberry Finn, he is a great novelist (DeVoto,
274).
The work devolves from its first chapters, however, and becomes something very different by the
end of the novel. A Connecticut Yankees climactic, blood letting ending, in particular, stands out
as amateurish bungling by the author. Twain, in a burst of what seems, upon initial investigation, a
beginning writer s attempt to resolve a novel that has spiraled out of his control, kills off his
antagonists and finally his protagonist as well. It seems that Twain throws his hands up in
frustration and ends the action in an orgy of electrocutions and Gatling gun fire. . . . the book is
chaos. Twain s mind was not able to stay within[satire s] limits. His imaginative ferment demanded
gigantic expression, (DeVoto, 278). An alternate reading of the conclusion, however, allows the
reader to take a vastly different critical angle on the book.
When viewed through the lens of anti utopian or dystopian analogy, A Connecticut Yankee in King
Arthur s Court s finale becomes a grave prediction of man s industrialized future. Where Aldous
Huxley augured man s enslavement to technology, its intellectual and critical emasculation in Brave
New World, Twain s work can be construed to encapsulate the pending destruction of society s
innocence and idealism by

Economy And Its Impact On The Economy Essay
Sometime in late 1950 s Minsky started warning about the gradual shift of the economy from a
very robust financial system that was stable and with no financial crisis in the early postwar
period. He had called with his analysis that gradually over time debts in the private sector would
tend to build up and increasingly risky financial innovations would increase over time. He is very
famous for the statement that stability itself is destabilizing. Although things seem very stable
today, gradually over time that stability would build confidence in individuals to take increasingly
risky positions in assets. The model that he had built explains financial crisisin the economic
system. He brings up that supply of credit increases during boom and abruptly decreased during
economic slowdown. It seems almost intuitive that from a standpoint of an investor the great time
to invest is when economy is booming to increase his or her profitability. Lenders as the investors
become increasingly optimistic about their return and they both become less sensitive to risk. But
when the economy starts slowing down investors sell out their holding to not to lose more of their
assets making the economy even more worse off. All of the New Deal structure that have been put
in place in the economy during the great depression, drove tremendous buildup of government
debt in World War II and gave a very safe asset for the private sector. This would be in a sense
leverage, safe government debt

The Effects Of Internal And International Migration On...
Results
We divide our analysis of the impacts of migration on how children allocate their time in the short
run in two parts. In the first part, we discuss the results of the effects of internal and international
migration on children s time outcomes using the treatment effect models, and in the second part,
we present the results of the analysis of time allocated to non school related activities and total
studying time using SUR and Heckman models. All of the models predict the number of hours
allocated to each activity per week.
Whether internal, international migration or both, the influence on children s time use may vary
depending on the activity we are observing. In addition, remittances could be the channel through
which migration impacts the time allocated to a particular activity, or there could be an effect
regardless of the reception of remittances. In order to identify general patterns, we first estimate
OLS regression models predicting the number of hours children allocate to each of the four
activities of interest (Table 4).
The results presented in Table 4 indicate that once adjusting for individual and household
characteristics, migration impacts children s allocation of time through different channels. Living in
a household with at least one international migrant but that does not receive remittances has a
positive and statistically significant association with the number of hours that children allocate to
farm work and study. Children allocate on average 8

The Culture Of The Mexican Culture In Mexico
Tacos, chile, horchata, piГ±atas and cartels is what people think when they hear the word
Mexican and that is exactly what it is. Not only is Mexico our neighbor, but is known for its cheap
goods and great food, as a Mexican I am proud of that. It may be one of the most dangerous places
to go to because of the drug war, but the Mexican culture is just wonderful, colorful, and full of life.
How lucky am I to live so close to a place, Olvera street, that represents my culture the way it does.
This historical district is not the only one, there are many more that preserve and represent different
cultures here in the city of angels.
According to Wikipedia, Olvera street was the heart of Los Angelessince it was first settled by
Spanish settlers in 1781, then it was taken over in 1821 by Mexicans. During the Mexican rule the
plaza remained the center of Los Angeles; so, to preserve the history it became a Mexican style
market.
It was a typical beautiful sunny day in California, bright blue sky with a couple of white cotton
candy clouds. Over where I stood was a tall tree with dark green leaves protected by a short black
fence on top of red bricks. On my left the taco stand, Cielito Lindo, was painted a patchy yellow
color and half red; on top of the stand there was a white sign bordered blue that read Cielito Lindo
. According to their website this world famous food stand first opened in 1934; ever since Olvera
Street has been known to have amazing crunchy taquitos

The Empire Of The Ottoman Empire
Three of the greatest empire in the history the ottomans in turkey, the Safavids in Persia and the
Mughals in the Indian subcontinent emerged in the Muslim world between the 14th and the 18th
centuries. These three greatest empire resulted in a powerful cultural interaction. The empires
expanded their power and thus Turkish, Mongol and Arab ways of life blended. It resulted in a
flowering of Islamic culture that raised higher in the 16th centuries. The empires ruled through
Islamic Sariah s. They based the authority on Islam. Their basement of power were strong armies,
advanced technology and legal administrative officers. The Ottomans Build a Vast Empire The
ottomans established a vast empire that lasted for a long time, more than 600 years and blended
many cultures in one. The empire s history is still important as many modern societies, from
Algeria to Turkey, originated from the Ottomans rule. Setting the Stage By 1300, the Byzantine
Empire was declining. The nomadic Turks were invading the lands. They had a long history of
invading others. But they were not united. From this place, a strong leader will emerge in and rule
the empire strongly. Turks Move into Byzantium Many Anatolian Turks, to be seen as Ghazi s
(warriors of Islam), formed military societies under the leadership of an emir. They used to follow
Islamic code of conduct. They raided the territories on the frontiers of Byzantine Empire. Byzantine

Biodiesel And Its Effects On Our Environment
Biodiesel is a fuel similar to diesel derived from a plant source, like corn, used vegetable oil, or
even algae. This biofuel is created from renewable resources to replace the low source of fossil
fuels that is unfortunately nonrenewable. Because of this situation society was basically coerced
into finding a substitute. While the price is getting higher due to recent events between the United
States (U.S. )and Third World Countries. Due to these situations society had to come up with a
cheaper, renewable source of fuel. Biodieselis the key to releasing the chains of restraint that have
been placed upon citizens by those third world countries. Society can take that crop, oil, or pond
scum to make a biodiesel we can save our environment, and economy. As said before, it is the
key to the public s restraint, as well as our future and fresh air. Biodiesel will also help with the
noise pollution because we will be using less of the oil well boom to get the crude oil. Another
bonus would be there would be less fracking which means less harmful chemical and natural gas
getting into people s water supply. Meaning there will be less flammable water coming out of a
household faucet. Because when they frack using water with a thickening agent of some kind to
help create pressure. that pressure is used to crack the shale rock that is holding the natural gas.
When that gas is released it contaminates nearby drinking water with the chemical used to make the
thickening agent. while

Extreme Of The Mohave Dessert
Extreme in the Mohave dessert
Mohave dessert spread across Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and some part of the State of California and
its climate reflects extremes of hot and cold. At winters temperatures are cool, as low as 8
Fahrenheit while the summer reaches about 120 Fahrenheit , winds are present years round blow
about 25 MPH regularly and gusts of 75MPH. all the time extreme is unsustainable either for the
weather or in any matter.
I was wrong and I learned the lesson in a hard way, mostly when extreme things happen to
someone, the first thing come to our mind is taking an extreme measure. I was one of those
people who took an extreme measure. My decision moved to Nevada was made in two weeks
time when 16 Fahrenheit cold weather kicked in South Dakota, and when the days are dark and
depression hanged and rolled on my shoulder. I remember those exciting days that I drove from
South Dakota to Nevada and how the weather in Nevada open its(his) arms and comforted me;
very peaceful and calm down weather, I felted like eating the cold yogurt in a warm weather. I
never forget those days, I truly ask the question to myself, how priceless is the beautiful air we
breathe in, the sun set sky images of an ombre of dark purple painting behind the mountains, and the
moon hangs on the sky before the sun set.
In a month time after I moved, I got a job which I love to work out door. In June The Mohave
extreme weather kicked on and I straggled to breath, my eyes narrowed, my skin color

Tijuana Summary
Questions Derived from Moral Landscaping
Ian Bogost investigated how games could teach particular procedures and practical systems to
players. But Julian Dibbel s investigation in Tijuana revealed how players could transform
procedures into self serving, manipulative machines. Profiteering is likely not the lesson Bogost or
Epistemic Games for that matter hoped to teach players. But what is the difference between
Epistemic Games transferring players power into solutions to real life problems and Blacksnow
transferring power into real life profit? Simply stated, it is the players motivation. More complexly
stated, a game like Candy Crush commits no moral error by placing players into a work based
system of economic growth.

And are these games really just simulations of real life? This would make sense since games now
have real life applications and implications. But all things considered, the difference between a
game and a simulation is arbitrary and based strictly on one s definition of each term. If the
difference relies on how realistic the game is in its mechanics and play style, then Call of Duty
might as well be called a combat simulator. Does a VR set such as the Oculus Rift along with the
still in development rifle shaped controller and multi direction gaming treadmill automatically turn
a game into a simulation? Perhaps every game is a low stakes simulation of its real life
counterparts. Pit, then, is a non digital, non profit simulation of stock market trading...that is, of
course, unless one started playing for money. Then, does the inclusion of money turn a game into a
simulation, or even into work? These terms are debatable. What is clear is the driving factor
behind why games are made beyond artistic expression, though not mutually exclusive of it, is the
desire for profit.
The gaming industry, much like the motion picture industry, is a business, driven by profit.
Whether other companies design games for other uses to teach or to problem solve is outside the
scope of what the industry (not so much the indie developers) prides itself on. King wants to make
money for its product; that is common sense. Whether the company makes money on the front

The Victorian Era And The Colonial Era
Savannah Workman
Professor Tehseen Ifran
English 202
31 January 2016
The Victorian Era The Victorian Era or the romantic period was a time in which Queen Victoria
ruled the throne. The Victorian period formally began in 1837 the year in which Victoria became
the Queen of England and ended in 1901 the year in which she was laid to rest. In this paper, I will
discuss Queen Victoria s life or what we all know to be The Victorian Era. I will highlight some of
the most powerful events that occurred during this time, the many reforms that were passed during
Queen Victoria s ruling, I will discuss the political, cultural, and social developments of this time
period. I will speak about some inventions of the Victorian Era, and the two main political parties
better known as the Tory and Whigs that were popular during this age. You will discover what
imperialism is, the commonwealth, The British Monarch and why and how Victoria was such a
remarkable monarch. I will even tell you some of the most interesting facts that I have learned to be
true about Queen Victoria.
First a little back history, May 24, 1819 marked a birth in history that most definitely did not go
unnoticed. Born into a royal family in Kensington Palace came the one and only Princess
Alexandrina Victoria. Victoria may have been born into royalty but, she actually grew up not being
surrounded by wealth. She grew up in a normal home instead of a palace. Little did the princess
know that she would become heir to the

Geothermal Energy Potential For Solar Energy
For Longmont, solar energy may be the best option, although Hydro power, Biomass, and
Geothermal all present options. For Utica, solar energy potential was very low, while the potential
for Hydro power is high and most likely that best option. For Cedar Rapids, solar energy potential
was also relatively low, while Biomass presents the greatest potential. Yuma has extremely high
potential for solar energy, so this seems to be the best option, but also has high potential for
Geothermal energy and Hydro power.
I would recommend the following to Mr. Greene for each of the four locations:
Longmont, CO: 70% Solar, 30% Geothermal
Utica, NY: 100% Solar
Cedar Rapids, IA: 30% Solar, 70% Biomass
Yuma, AZ: 80% Solar, 20% Geothermal

Cost refers to the monetary value that the University of Florida would have to distribute in order to
create and maintain an alternative energy system. Specifically, the University of Florida would
finance labor and materials (including those that make up the alternative energy system).
Efficiency refers to how well an alternative energy system creates usable energy. Because many
alternative energy systems rely on the physical location of certain devices and thus are capable of
being less efficient in certain physical locations, location is an integral part of efficiency.
Methods

The Struggles Of Bad Customer Service
The Struggles of Bad Customer Service In the medical industry, customer service is a very
important thing. As a customer and a new patient, I expect to walk into an office and be treated
with the same respect as the next person in line. About two weeks ago, I went into the oral surgeon
s office and was looking around to see a tiny, but crowed waiting room. I came into this office with
high expectations, for my sister had just gotten her wisdom teethremoved in this office with
exceptional service , as my motherput it. So I looked up at the receptionist s desk and found myself
placed as the second person in line. There I stood, waiting in line for over twenty minutes! It felt
like it was taking forever because there was a gentleman in front of me who didn t have his
referrals. But order for him to proceed with an appointment, he needed the referrals. So the
receptionist, decided to put her time into looking for his paperwork. Thankfully, while she s
looking into it, she calls the next person in line. This happens to finally be my turn! I quickly
proceeded to the receptionist s desk, to present my insurance cards. The reason why I have two
insurance cards instead of just one is because I have Hodgkin s Lymphoma. That means I have a
secondary insurance listed under the state s welfare policies for disabled children. Although I am
eighteen, the policy allows me to stay on until I m Nineteen for my medical bills can get extremely
expensive. At this point, I go to

The Rocking-Horse Winner
The world has always been full of hatred, war, and strife, but the one thing holding us together is
love. One of the main concepts to happiness is being loved and loving others. In my 17 years of
living, I have seen and experienced love on multiple occasions. The love a couple has for each
other. A loveof God. A love of friends and family. Even the love a pet has for it s owner. A love
that sticks out the most is the love a parent has for their child and vice versa. The famous novelist,
poet, playwright, essayist, literary critic and painter, David Lawrence, wrote the short story The
Rocking HorseWinner , which digs deeper in the concept of love. The narrative begins with a
mother, Hester, who is struggling with whether she loves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrative starts out telling about Hester having trouble loving her children. It has never
been a common thing that a mother just stops loving her children. She also loves money more
than her family. This shows how unthankful she is for the family and life she has. Materials such
as money mean more to her than family does. This is shown towards the end of the narrative
The Rocking Horse Winner , Paul knew that the derby was coming up, so he rode the rocking
horse as hard as he could to figure out which horse would win. He thought the more he rode his
rocking horse, the more money he would make, to please his mother. He was so stressed about
betting on the horse that would win, he became ill. This is when his mother actually became a
little concerned about him. Paul was in critical condition, He neither slept nor regained
consciousness, and his eyes were like blue stones. His mother sat, feeling her heart had gone,
turned to actual stone (Lawrence 495). Bassett visited him to tell him that the horse Paul said
would win, had won. Paul awoke when Bassett told him the news. Paul asked his mother if he
told her how lucky he was, and she said he never did. He died that night. In consequence, she did

Coconut oil has many healing qualities and that goes for using coconut oil to treat your allergies.
There are several ways to use coconut oil for your allergies and here you will learn several ways to
do just that!
Using Coconut Oil For Allergies
Every year millions of people suffer from allergies of all kinds and swear they would do just
about anything to make it stop! The usual routine is to go to the doctor where he will tell you that
you have allergies and will then unceremoniously prescribe you some medication or tell you that
you need to buy some Benadryl or other lack luster preventive allergy medication and that you will
have to take it for the rest of your life. You have got to be kidding me! Surely there is something

Yeast, aka Candida can really take a toll on your system and is one of the most common
contributors to the seasonal allergy epidemic. Adding coconut oil to your diet will help you battle
yeast overgrowth, which will help you rid yourself of many nasty allergy symptoms.
Another great way to use coconut oil to help get rid of your allergies is through a technique
called oil pulling. Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic technique that dates back 5000 years or so.
It s a method of using coconut oil to detoxify the body and the mouth of a variety of ailments,

Ellen DeGeneres Commencement Speech at Tulane

On May 16, 2009, Ellen DeGeneres delivered a Commencement speech at Tulane University in
New Orleans, Louisiana. The purpose of this speech was to guide the graduates of Tulane
University into the new world, and just give them advice about their future. DeGeneres s speech
was about her personal experiences about growing up and just her personal struggle in life. Also, it
was about finding the purpose of life, and how she got through a tough situation in her life. Ellen
DeGeneres is known as a talk show host and her funny antics, but she talked through her sexuality
and fear, and how she did not know what she wanted to be when she was older, but eventually she
was in a place she wanted to be.
What I believed that Ellen DeGeneres did most effectively was first, delivering the speech in a
way the age group would be able to understand. According to Stephen Lucus from The Art of
Public Speaking , (2012) One of the ways speakers analyze audiences is by looking at demographic
traits such as age, (p. 101) and that is what DeGeneres did. ... Show more content on

speech, you should strive for vocal variety changes in rate, pitch, and volume that will giver your
voice interest and expressiveness. (p. 245) And DeGeneres also executed that very well. When
she was delivering her speech, when she were to say funny statements or make jokes, her voice
was light and sounded just like in an everyday conversation. Once she began speaking about more
serious topics such as the death of her loved one, her voice turned into a more serious tone, with
less humor in the voice. By her being able to differentiate between the two emotions, we, as the
audience were able to connect with DeGeneres on another

The Battle Of Tippecanoe By William Henry Harrison
The Battle of Tippecanoe was one of the major steps towards the War of 1812. It took place on
November 8, 1811, in a clearing near Prophet s Town. It was also perhaps one of the most
controversial battles in the War of 1812. Although a peace treaty had been made one day prior
before the Battle of Tippecanoe, the Native Americans attacked, which caused the American
soldiers to fight back, who were led by General William Henry Harrison. The Native Americans had
been led by Tecumseh, a Shawnee Indian Chief. The Battle of Tippecanoe was a controversial battle
which the Natives Americans started, and ultimately, lost.
Tecumseh was a Shawnee Indian chief who had been born around 1768 near Springfield, Ohio.
During the early 1800s, he started to oppose the United States, and attempted to create a
confederation of Indian Tribes to rebel against the United States. One of the main reasons
Tecumseh opposed the United States was the fact that white people were squatting on Native
American land, and was forcing his people out. Although Tecumseh opposed whites, he knew how
to speak their language. Tecumseh was described as a six foot tall man with fine features. He had
been rumored to be fluent in English, and most surprisingly, also in French. He also managed to
turn his brother s religious teachings into political movements in order to get his fellow Native
Americans to support his movement. [Collins, pg 36 40]
Tecumseh s brother, the Prophet, was not nearly as famous.

Christopher Boone Quotes
Every family goes through something difficult in their lifetime, whether it be good or bad. It all
depends on whether or not they can bounce back from the situation. For the Boone family, that is to
be determined. The Boone family has been through a lot together, yet there is still hope for them to

but Mr Boone still goes and finds him. Also, Christopher was able to get to agree with his father

In this case, Christopher had to forgive and trust his father after he found out that he had killed
Wellington. When Christopher found out that Mr Boone killed Wellington, he was very scared,
which was one of the reasons that he ran away from Swindon to go to London to live with his
mother. Mr Boone tries really hard to gain Christopher s trust once again and make amends. An
example of this is seen when Christopher and Ms Boone moved back to Swindon, and Mr
Boone tries to gain Christopher s trust by creating a project that he and Christopher have to
complete. Mr Boone explains, Let s call it a project. A project we have to do together. You have
to spend more time with me. And I...I have to show you that you can trust me. And it will be
difficult at first because... because it s a difficult project. But it will get better. I promise.
(Haddon 219) This directly shows that Mr Boone is trying really hard to gain Christopher s trust
again and make their relationship strong as it used to be. By doing so, Mr Boone also gives
Christopher a gift, to act like a peace token. The book states, Then he came back through and
gave me the dog. And he said, He s two months old. And he s a golden retriever. (Haddon 219)
When Mr Boone did this, it was a way for him to gain Christopher s trust since he killed
Wellington the dog, by giving Christopher his very own golden retriever. This acted as a peace
offering to bring Christopher and his father together once again and to gain his trust. This sets the
notion in the book that there is hope within the family for them to be repaired and to be loving
family once

Research Methods For The University Recycling Program
Research Methods We began by creating an interview guide that consisted of four questions. The
interview questions for faculty were different from the ones asked to students. We included
questions regarding participants personal knowledge about recycling, their recycling habits and
what their thoughts about the University recyclingprograms. In addition, we asked participants to
identify ways they could reduce their paper usage, and if they could suggest something that the
University could do to improve.
We reached saturation after interviewing eight random students; interviews were held at the Taylor
Family Digital Library. Faculty members were chosen randomly and we interviewed two before
reaching saturation. Both faculty members were professors and the interview took place after their
lecture. The questions that we asked relate to our research question, which is what faculty and
students, are doing to help the University of Calgary reduce paper and how can it improve.
Preliminary Results
In general terms, we found that all participants recycle paper. Most recycle on a regular basis.
However, one of the participants mentioned that he only recycles when it is convenient and easy for
him, this means when recycling facilities (i.e. recycling bins) are nearby. In contrast, another
participant stated that she would carry the paper with her until she found the proper bin to throw it
in.
All the participants claimed that recycling paper is important to them, and they would

The Education System Of Nigeria
1.0Introduction
Education is said to be act or procedure of bestowing or securing general learning, building up the
forces of thinking and judgment, and by and large of setting oneself up or others mentally for
experienced life. The Ministry of Education is responsible for education in Nigeria. The education
framework in Nigeria is separated into Kindergarten, primary education, secondary education and
tertiary education.
2.1Foundation Problem
The present example of Nigeria Education system, especially the Tertiary Institutions has been an
issue of sensitivity to the general public, government organizations, companies, educationists,
investors (home and abroad), graduates and diverse establishments. This paper took a gander at the
present state of education as far as the admission process, educational modules, academic staff,
students, funding, facilities, industrial collaborations, roles of government agencies and how it has
affected the quality of graduates produced that has ultimately led to an increased level of
unemployed graduates from Nigeria Tertiary Institution.
2.2 Overview of Nigeria Economy
Nigeria is as often as possible implied as the Giant of Africa , inferable from its inconceivable
people and economy. With around 184 million occupants, Nigeria is the most jammed country in
Africa and the seventh most swarmed country on the planet. Nigeria has one of the greatest masses
of youth on the planet.

Cultural Immersion Reflection
Cultural immersion is an essential part of the education experience. It has been used throughout
time to allow people to understand those whose ideas and beliefs differ from their own. The
experiences gained through immersing in an unfamiliar culture allow the mind to grow in ways
that are beyond comprehension. Because our nation is advancing, and merging ides from other
cultures, this process is more important than ever. Cynthia Kratzke and Melissa Bertolo (2013)
state that if we only teach concepts and language from other cultures we are limiting the ability of
future generations to be able to work with other cultures (p.1). Cultural immersion is a way for
one to reach a new insight they may not have otherwise gained. Jesus Nieto (2006) says there are
main goals to these experiences: 1) to interact with people of a different culture2) to gain insight
into aspects of others 3) to be of a minority group in a setting 4) to gain a new perspective on one
s own beliefs and values (p. 77). Going into this experience, I expected to feel slightly
uncomfortable. I was born and raised a Catholic, and my experience involved me going in and
learning about the Muslim religion. While I am open to learning about and experiencing new
ideas I knew that this event might challenge some of the things I had grown up leaning about. I
also knew this event would focus on the modeling industry so I expected this to focus on things
like sexism and the stresses of being in the business. Some of this I could relate to. There is this
idea that women need to be unhealthily thin and look like models who are photo shopped. For
my immersion experience, I attended a talk by the first Hijab wearing model Mariah Idrissi in the
Phoenix Rooms. There were all different types of people here, ranging in age and cultural
background. Because this event was sponsored by the Women of Color I was part of the cultural
minority in the room.
Mariah is a Muslim woman who was selected by H M in 2015 to be a part of their campaign for a
new line of modest fashion. She was scouted at a shopping center in London, having just graduated
college with a degree in English Literature and History. After the ad was released, Mariah became
an icon overnight. So

Casablanca And The Movie Casablanca
Many believe that as a society, cultural norms and morals have changed with the times. However, it
can be argued that although many new innovations have brought mankind into the 21st century, the
same values have remained. Humans cling to things that throughout the generations have
influenced our everyday lives. As an audience in 1942 to today s audience, three things have
remained the same; the loveof a good romance, war time issues, and loyalties. This essay will
compare what the audience in 1942 saw in these cultural norms to the audience today within the
movie Casablanca. Love is patient, love is kind. 1 Corinthians 13:4 (1 Corinthians 13:4). Love is

This was the case is Casablanca, when refugees gathered in Casablanca waiting to receive an exit
visa bound for America. Although the audience in 1942 were aware of the situation at the time
because they were living it, today s audience can also relate since the war on terrorism is in full
swing. Another issue that adds on to the war issue is that of corruption. As in the film, when
Captain Louis Renault is caught between that of the German Nazi s and helping someone who
were trying to help those who oppose German rule. Although it is a despicable act, corruption is
found in every avenue when it comes to war. Many would say it is only to better the outcome of
the side they are fighting for, however, it is still found within the two cultures. Also, the
decision of right and wrong is found to be a norm that is been present since the beginning of
time and has stayed constant. This is shown when Rick as to decide whether to stay neutral as
he always has or to help the woman he loves as well as her husband flee the country. Sometimes
the questions are complicated, and the answers are simple. Dr. Seuss (Bright Drop). Throughout
life, Loyalties are tested, whether it be a friend or a loved one. When put to the test, some rise to
the occasion while others fall flat and prove where their loyalties lie. At times, it is even asked of
one to prove where their loyalties lie within themselves to prove one s values. In many cases within

This moment was what we had worked for our entire swimming careers. It was exhilarating. It

The Origins of Russia Essay
The Origins of Russia
The country of Russia: enormous, expansive, wide open. The words that describe this Euro
Asian country can be attributed to its origins from its Slavic inhabitants and the takeover by the
Varangians. Kievan Russia, as it was called, started its own civilization in the year 862. The
problem with the origin of the Russian State is that it is exceedingly complex and many theories
are based on circumstantial evidence. A good example of this is the early history of the plains
above the Black Sea. This region compromises the center of the Kievan State, yet much is unknown
about these parts due to the lack of resources. Archaeological finds suggest many ideas, all of which
are unconfirmed. The simplest and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Scythians lived peacefully until the third century BCE. During that time, they were overcome
by another nomadic tribe, the Sarmatians. Less than twenty five years after the Sarmatians
conquered the Scythians, the Goths superseded the Sarmatians. The Goths were groups of
uncivilized people who strengthened their kingdoms by keeping them in a state of terror. They
were of Germanic descent, and reached the pinnacle of their strength during the early fourth
century. Following the Goths were the Huns and the Avars. Meanwhile, the Slavs in the fifth
century CE emerged and moved southward to come in contact with the East Roman Empire. The
Slavs were split into three groups, called the Antae, Sclaveni, and the Venedi. Most historical
references do not pay much attention to the Antic tribes, probably because of their disappearance
in the late sixth century. The Sclaveni and Venedi joined and created a unified East Slavic empire.
This Slavic kingdom slowly began to increase during the late 700s. The area that was held by the
Avars in the 790s was demolished through Charlemagne s destruction of their empire. With that, the
Slavic people began to migrate down to what is now Kiev. At Kiev, they encountered additional
tribes such as the Finno Ugrians, Bulgars, and Khazars. The Finno Ugrians could be broken down
into smaller less civilized tribes, though their counterparts, the Bulgars and the Khazars, were much
more refined.

Key Elements Of Persuasive Communication
Persuasion is described as the deliberate process that intends to change an individual s attitudes,
behaviours or beliefs from their previous initial views and ways of behaving in society. Persuasive
communication is widespread and evident all around us, including in central areas of politics,
marketing and media. Burkholder et al s (2003) findings support the idea that there are cultural
differences evident in the effectiveness of persuasion, in which they found that shortly after the end
of the Iraq war, surveys indicated that although Americans favoured the use of military action
against Iraq by 2:1, Europeans opposed it by the same margin. There are four key factors that help
influence persuasion amongst the masses, depending on their... Show more content on

The central route to persuasion requires high efforts of processing which occurs through a
complex structure, thus leads to longer lasting effects of persuasion. However, if an audience is
lacking in motivation, in which they are not analytical or involved with the message they are
more likely to take the peripheral route to persuasion. In this case, peripheral cues are used in
which these cues trigger an acceptance of the messages thus leading to persuasion, which is
usually a temporary effect [Myers et al 2016 p190 191].
Social psychologists have not only studied the effects of persuasion, but also the elements that
contribute to attitude change. Carl Hovland (1953) developed the Hovland Yale model of persuasion,
in which he used a research team from Yale University. They found that there are a considerable
number of factors that can influence how likely attitude changes are to occur, however they also
noticed that some are more important than others [McGuire et al 1996]. One of the key factors they
found that determines whether persuasion occurs is the communicator. Social psychologists have
found that persuasion can be influenced depending about who is presenting the argument, which
can impact on how an audience receives it. The credibility of the communicator plays a large role in
influencing persuasion, in which

Imagine thousands of 15th century English footman plagued with dysentery trying to march the

German troops who had taken over nearly all of Europe in only three short years. These are the men

This is exactly the feeling that the King is trying to provoke. Although Shakespeare does not
necessarily use worth in its traditional way of making people feel important, he sparks
competition within his men, which would likely be more effective at such a low point in their
war. Similarly, Lieutenant General George Patton needs to motivate his soldiers to fight an
equally if not more dangerous battle, but his men were already winning their war so he takes
the traditional route and makes them feel more important. He says to his men All real heroes are
not storybook combat fighters, either. Every single man in this Army plays a vital role. Don t
ever let up. Don t ever think that your job is unimportant. Every man has a job to do and he must
do it. Every man has a vital link in the great chain (Patton 38 40). There is one big difference in
the way Shakespeare and Patton used worth. The King s men were badly losing so their only
hope of survival was to compete against each other to stay alive, however since Patton s men were
winning all he had to do was reinforce what they were already worth and they would want to fight.
By making each job seem equally important Patton motivates each man to work just as hard as
everyone else. Not only does worth have this effect, but also status. Status, much like worth, makes
you feel good about yourself, by putting their soldiers above others LTG George Patton and the

My First Day Of My Best Friend In My Life
Like some people I haven t lived in Ramona my whole life, I lived in Evanston Wyoming for
about seven years. Then in 2010 I moved out here at the end of summer, which meant the day I
was dreading came very fast, the first day of 3rd grade at a new school. Being the new kid, I was
nervous and shy and didn t have any idea how I would introduce myself, but lucky for me
someone introduced herself first. Hi, I m Michaela! said the girl, who would soon become my
best friend and still is to this day. Michaela Brooke Meskell broke the ice and started talking to me
and made me feel a little less nervous on the first day of my new life and that s when our friendship
began. I have known her for seven years now and is one of best friends. She is a pretty, tall, skinny
15 year old girl with long straight brown hair, brown eyes and glasses. She runs cross country
and track, does very well in school and likes art and YouTube. Michaela was my very first friend
when I moved here and over the last seven years I ve gotten to know so much about her. She s
artistic, humorous, kind, intelligent, loyal and so many more amazing things. I m so grateful to
have her in my life and hope to still have her with me in the future. Even though we both have very
similar ways of thinking we have different thoughts on how we actually decided to become friends.
Both of us were about 8 years old, Michaela was most likely wearing her usual outfit of a plain
colored shirt, a skort, and mismatched socks that went up to her knees while I was wearing
something that matched more. It was 3rd grade at James Dukes Elementary in August. It was
hot outside so the cool plastic chairs were nice as I sat down waiting for class to start. Michaela
introduced herself and we started talking. She says that she was shy and quiet when we met but
I remember she was not either of those things and told me we should be friends. I was the shy
one so I just said ok, sure and just followed her around and eventually we were officially friends.
Either way, this showed me how she was friendly and kind to me as I was nervous on my first day.
Another example is something more recent. Just the other day I was doing homework with
Michaela over the phone. I was at my house and

A study done by the United Kingdom shows the effects of long term marijuana use, and the
correlation with having a lack of motivation. The study followed nineteen marijuana users
(Group A), and nineteen non marijuana users(Group B) all with the same age and sex, to study
the chemicals in the brain that promote work ethic and reward driven behavior. Group A had
significantly lower amounts of the chemical in the brain called Dopamine. Dopamine is a feel

the haystack. So basically I don t like girls like I m supposed to, I guess. I want to tell my my
mom at least, but she might send me to camp. I must suppress a shiver. Those horrible camps.
They force you to do work. They starve you. Just the thought of it makes me sick. My thoughts
are brought to an abrupt end when my mom comes barging into my room. Wulf, your father and
I discussed it, and we have decided that you will be grounded for a week; this means no playing
outside with your friends. Do you understand me? she says this in a voice that is harsh and firm
yet oddly soft at the same time. Yes, Mutter, I manage to spit these two simple words out. Now
come downstairs, supper is ready, she says in an odd

The Beach Crim Research Paper
The Beach Crim
There was a cool breeze coming from the Lake, the waves were rolling into shore and nothing
else but the midnight silence, also the two bangs that brighten the whole beach. There was a car
parked on the right side of the tower house at the very edge of the beach, where the parking lot
started. There was a Tower house keeper who said he was suspicious of gunshots he had heard
and he called 911, like someone would do if they heard a gunshot at this time of night. There was
also another witness at the scene a homeless man who used a payphone to call in the gunshots he
had heard. The pay phone was at the far side of the beach about 100 yards from the Tower House.
When the Ambulance and the Policies officers arrived it was a very dark and cold night.
Everybody was so surprised that this happened on valentine s day most people was celebrating
with their love ones win they got the call. They got ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It had to show some clue on the scene, before he could do any more questioning they were on
there way to the scene. James and Eric was now at the scene to get the footage they need. When
they got to the Tower House it was 3:00 the car was gone and the heart and foot prints was gone
by the wind rearranging the sand. They knocked on the door and Chris Marks let them in to look
over the camera. He let them into the footage room and walked out back into the main room of
the Tower House. They took about 3 hours going over the camera but they never seen anybody go
in or out the door to the Tower House about the time he told them he did. You could tell the look
they gave to each other they expected someone was lying. About at 12:15 pm they seen another
clue, a man was crossing over to the right side of the tower house. He went up to the payment and
headed towards the payphone. A male about 6 2, with boots and had on all black like a thief in the

Descriptive Essay About Rapel
There once was a deep forest with the largest tower any unisexed individual ever laid eyes upon.
In this tower, there was an incredibly handsome individual named Raphael. Raphael had delicate
blue eyes, toned muscles, a nicely shaped fade, oh and a one hundred foot beard. His testosterone
levels were surly through the roof.
You might be wondering, Why does Raphael have a one hundred foot beard, and if he is so
devilishly handsome, why does he live by himself in a tower? Well, Raphael was kidnapped as a
child by a warlock who always wanted a son. However, as Raphael grew older he became a real
hunk, and this warlock, named Ricardio, grew envious of his looks. As punishment for being so
handsome, the warlock put a spell on Raphael that made it impossible for him to shave and locked
him in a tower so no one could ever see his beautifully carved jawline and luscious face.
Raphael would always try to trim his wiry dark beard, but even the sharpest of scissors shattered
into dust when he attempted. As he grew older, all alone in the tower, he learned to play the harp
and wrote many songs. He often slept a great amount, and wrote stories on the walls of his small
fully furnished room. He also fixed his hair a lot and could probably be a professional barber if he
ever got out of that damned place. Raphael also enjoys looking at nature and wondering what it
would feel like to be a part of it. He was trapped in the tower for so long, he forgot how soft grass
was, and how hard

The Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress Essay
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress is a marvelous novel, written by Dai Sijie, which
himself was re educated between 1971 and 1974 during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. In Dai
Sijie s Balzac and the Little Seamstress three separate accounts are given of an incident in which
Luo and the Little Seamstress make love in an isolated mountain pool. Two of these perspectives
are given by the participants while the third is provided by the old miller who observes their love
making from a distance. Of all the accounts, I found the count of this incident of Little Seamstress
most appealing as she is able to present at an imaginative description of this setting and allow the
readers to understand her thoughts and feelings. In contrast the... Show more content on

Her account of this incident appealed to be in part because of her description of the underwater
scenery. Her description is both visual and tactile. Similes describe the stones underwater as
small and smooth like pale eggs and others as big as human heads. She relates the description to
things which she is familiar with in her surroundings such as strangely jutting curves like
buffalo horns. The contrasting words such as smooth, sharp and jagged all help the reader
imagine the bottom of the pool. This passage also reveals a side of the Little Seamstress s
character which has not been revealed, her independence of her mind. This is where she
explains why she loves to dive for Luo s key ring. She rejects that she is I m like a silly dog that

The Life Of Joan Of Arc
Since God had commanded it, it was necessary that I do it. Since God commanded it, even if I had
a hundred fathers and mothers, even if I had been a King s daughter, I would have gone
nevertheless. (Joan of Arc) Joan of Arc once said after she had gotten the call to follow God. Joan
of Arc was and still is an inspiration to everyone. By her early life she is recodnized, end of life,
and by how she influences the world today. Joan of Arcwas a great leader and woman. Jeanne d
Arc, or Joan of Arc in English, was born in 1412 in DomrГ©my, France while they were at war
with England. Of a poor farmer named Jacques d Arc she was the daughter and her mother
Isabelle or RomГ©e. Her mother taught her how to work at home and on the farm. About God and
the Catholic Church she only ever learned. When she hit the age of thirteen, she started hearing
voices and having visions. In a few of her visions were SaintMichaeland Saint Catherine. To help
fight for France against the English she believed that they were all telling her. At sixteen years
of age, she was forced into a marriage by her father after taking a vow of chastity, so she went to
the court and they said that she would not be compelled to marry. Joan of Arc was an extremely
stubborn and strong willed woman from an early age who would do what she thought was right
and what needed to be done. (Joan of Arc) In the late spring of 1428 Joan of Arc went off to fight
in the war. The virgin who was destined to save France, she

  • 2. Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court as a Dystopian... Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court as a Dystopian Work For years, Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court has been primarily viewed as a work of simple satire. Twain, desiring to poke fun at a group of America s cultural critics, chief among them Matthew Arnold, who claimed that cultural life in the U.S. treaded on shallow soil, takes aim at the venerated institutions of Britain. The author attempts to show that his country s lack of romanticized social structures, meaning an absence of royalty, the Catholic church, and long dead knights and princesses, was far from a cultural weakness. Twain explodes the myth around idealized chivalric society and proves it to be no match for the Nineteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, as in much of Tom Sawyer and most of Huckleberry Finn, he is a great novelist (DeVoto, 274). The work devolves from its first chapters, however, and becomes something very different by the end of the novel. A Connecticut Yankees climactic, blood letting ending, in particular, stands out as amateurish bungling by the author. Twain, in a burst of what seems, upon initial investigation, a beginning writer s attempt to resolve a novel that has spiraled out of his control, kills off his antagonists and finally his protagonist as well. It seems that Twain throws his hands up in frustration and ends the action in an orgy of electrocutions and Gatling gun fire. . . . the book is chaos. Twain s mind was not able to stay within[satire s] limits. His imaginative ferment demanded gigantic expression, (DeVoto, 278). An alternate reading of the conclusion, however, allows the reader to take a vastly different critical angle on the book. When viewed through the lens of anti utopian or dystopian analogy, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court s finale becomes a grave prediction of man s industrialized future. Where Aldous Huxley augured man s enslavement to technology, its intellectual and critical emasculation in Brave New World, Twain s work can be construed to encapsulate the pending destruction of society s innocence and idealism by ... • 3. Economy And Its Impact On The Economy Essay Sometime in late 1950 s Minsky started warning about the gradual shift of the economy from a very robust financial system that was stable and with no financial crisis in the early postwar period. He had called with his analysis that gradually over time debts in the private sector would tend to build up and increasingly risky financial innovations would increase over time. He is very famous for the statement that stability itself is destabilizing. Although things seem very stable today, gradually over time that stability would build confidence in individuals to take increasingly risky positions in assets. The model that he had built explains financial crisisin the economic system. He brings up that supply of credit increases during boom and abruptly decreased during economic slowdown. It seems almost intuitive that from a standpoint of an investor the great time to invest is when economy is booming to increase his or her profitability. Lenders as the investors become increasingly optimistic about their return and they both become less sensitive to risk. But when the economy starts slowing down investors sell out their holding to not to lose more of their assets making the economy even more worse off. All of the New Deal structure that have been put in place in the economy during the great depression, drove tremendous buildup of government debt in World War II and gave a very safe asset for the private sector. This would be in a sense leverage, safe government debt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effects Of Internal And International Migration On... Results We divide our analysis of the impacts of migration on how children allocate their time in the short run in two parts. In the first part, we discuss the results of the effects of internal and international migration on children s time outcomes using the treatment effect models, and in the second part, we present the results of the analysis of time allocated to non school related activities and total studying time using SUR and Heckman models. All of the models predict the number of hours allocated to each activity per week. Whether internal, international migration or both, the influence on children s time use may vary depending on the activity we are observing. In addition, remittances could be the channel through which migration impacts the time allocated to a particular activity, or there could be an effect regardless of the reception of remittances. In order to identify general patterns, we first estimate OLS regression models predicting the number of hours children allocate to each of the four activities of interest (Table 4). The results presented in Table 4 indicate that once adjusting for individual and household characteristics, migration impacts children s allocation of time through different channels. Living in a household with at least one international migrant but that does not receive remittances has a positive and statistically significant association with the number of hours that children allocate to farm work and study. Not only is Mexico our neighbor, but is known for its cheap goods and great food, as a Mexican I am proud of that. It may be one of the most dangerous places to go to because of the drug war, but the Mexican culture is just wonderful, colorful, and full of life. How lucky am I to live so close to a place, Olvera street, that represents my culture the way it does. This historical district is not the only one, there are many more that preserve and represent different cultures here in the city of angels. According to Wikipedia, Olvera street was the heart of Los Angelessince it was first settled by Spanish settlers in 1781, then it was taken over in 1821 by Mexicans. During the Mexican rule the plaza remained the center of Los Angeles; so, to preserve the history it became a Mexican style market. • 7. Biodiesel And Its Effects On Our Environment Biodiesel is a fuel similar to diesel derived from a plant source, like corn, used vegetable oil, or even algae. This biofuel is created from renewable resources to replace the low source of fossil fuels that is unfortunately nonrenewable. Because of this situation society was basically coerced into finding a substitute. While the price is getting higher due to recent events between the United States (U.S. )and Third World Countries. Due to these situations society had to come up with a cheaper, renewable source of fuel. Biodieselis the key to releasing the chains of restraint that have been placed upon citizens by those third world countries. Society can take that crop, oil, or pond scum to make a biodiesel we can save our environment, and economy. As said before, it is the key to the public s restraint, as well as our future and fresh air. Biodiesel will also help with the noise pollution because we will be using less of the oil well boom to get the crude oil. Another bonus would be there would be less fracking which means less harmful chemical and natural gas getting into people s water supply. Meaning there will be less flammable water coming out of a household faucet. But what is the difference between Epistemic Games transferring players power into solutions to real life problems and Blacksnow transferring power into real life profit? This would make sense since games now have real life applications and implications. But all things considered, the difference between a game and a simulation is arbitrary and based strictly on one s definition of each term. If the difference relies on how realistic the game is in its mechanics and play style, then Call of Duty might as well be called a combat simulator. Does a VR set such as the Oculus Rift along with the still in development rifle shaped controller and multi direction gaming treadmill automatically turn a game into a simulation? Perhaps every game is a low stakes simulation of its real life counterparts. Pit, then, is a non digital, non profit simulation of stock market trading...that is, of course, unless one started playing for money. Then, does the inclusion of money turn a game into a simulation, or even into work? These terms are debatable. What is clear is the driving factor behind why games are made beyond artistic expression, though not mutually exclusive of it, is the desire for profit. The gaming industry, much like the motion picture industry, is a business, driven by profit. During the early 1800s, he started to oppose the United States, and attempted to create a confederation of Indian Tribes to rebel against the United States. One of the main reasons Tecumseh opposed the United States was the fact that white people were squatting on Native American land, and was forcing his people out. Although Tecumseh opposed whites, he knew how to speak their language. Tecumseh was described as a six foot tall man with fine features. He had been rumored to be fluent in English, and most surprisingly, also in French. • 24. Cultural Immersion Reflection Cultural immersion is an essential part of the education experience. It has been used throughout time to allow people to understand those whose ideas and beliefs differ from their own. The experiences gained through immersing in an unfamiliar culture allow the mind to grow in ways that are beyond comprehension. Because our nation is advancing, and merging ides from other cultures, this process is more important than ever. Cynthia Kratzke and Melissa Bertolo (2013) state that if we only teach concepts and language from other cultures we are limiting the ability of future generations to be able to work with other cultures (p.1). Cultural immersion is a way for one to reach a new insight they may not have otherwise gained. Jesus Nieto (2006) says there are main goals to these experiences: 1) to interact with people of a different culture2) to gain insight into aspects of others 3) to be of a minority group in a setting 4) to gain a new perspective on one s own beliefs and values (p. 77). Going into this experience, I expected to feel slightly uncomfortable. I was born and raised a Catholic, and my experience involved me going in and learning about the Muslim religion. While I am open to learning about and experiencing new ideas I knew that this event might challenge some of the things I had grown up leaning about. I also knew this event would focus on the modeling industry so I expected this to focus on things like sexism and the stresses of being in the business. Some of this I could relate to. There is this idea that women need to be unhealthily thin and look like models who are photo shopped. For my immersion experience, I attended a talk by the first Hijab wearing model Mariah Idrissi in the Phoenix Rooms. There were all different types of people here, ranging in age and cultural background. Because this event was sponsored by the Women of Color I was part of the cultural minority in the room. Mariah is a Muslim woman who was selected by H M in 2015 to be a part of their campaign for a new line of modest fashion. She was scouted at a shopping center in London, having just graduated college with a degree in English Literature and History. After the ad was released, Mariah became an icon overnight. So ... • 25. Casablanca And The Movie Casablanca Many believe that as a society, cultural norms and morals have changed with the times. However, it can be argued that although many new innovations have brought mankind into the 21st century, the same values have remained. Humans cling to things that throughout the generations have influenced our everyday lives. As an audience in 1942 to today s audience, three things have remained the same; the loveof a good romance, war time issues, and loyalties. This essay will compare what the audience in 1942 saw in these cultural norms to the audience today within the movie Casablanca. Another issue that adds on to the war issue is that of corruption. As in the film, when Captain Louis Renault is caught between that of the German Nazi s and helping someone who were trying to help those who oppose German rule. Although it is a despicable act, corruption is found in every avenue when it comes to war. Many would say it is only to better the outcome of the side they are fighting for, however, it is still found within the two cultures. Also, the decision of right and wrong is found to be a norm that is been present since the beginning of time and has stayed constant. This is shown when Rick as to decide whether to stay neutral as he always has or to help the woman he loves as well as her husband flee the country. The words that describe this Euro Asian country can be attributed to its origins from its Slavic inhabitants and the takeover by the Varangians. Kievan Russia, as it was called, started its own civilization in the year 862. The problem with the origin of the Russian State is that it is exceedingly complex and many theories are based on circumstantial evidence. The Goths were groups of uncivilized people who strengthened their kingdoms by keeping them in a state of terror. They were of Germanic descent, and reached the pinnacle of their strength during the early fourth century. Following the Goths were the Huns and the Avars. Meanwhile, the Slavs in the fifth century CE emerged and moved southward to come in contact with the East Roman Empire. The Slavs were split into three groups, called the Antae, Sclaveni, and the Venedi. Most historical references do not pay much attention to the Antic tribes, probably because of their disappearance in the late sixth century. The Sclaveni and Venedi joined and created a unified East Slavic empire. This Slavic kingdom slowly began to increase during the late 700s. The area that was held by the Avars in the 790s was demolished through Charlemagne s destruction of their empire. With that, the Slavic people began to migrate down to what is now Kiev. At Kiev, they encountered additional tribes such as the Finno Ugrians, Bulgars, and Khazars. Key Elements Of Persuasive Communication Persuasion is described as the deliberate process that intends to change an individual s attitudes, behaviours or beliefs from their previous initial views and ways of behaving in society. Persuasive communication is widespread and evident all around us, including in central areas of politics, marketing and media. Burkholder et al s (2003) findings support the idea that there are cultural differences evident in the effectiveness of persuasion, in which they found that shortly after the end of the Iraq war, surveys indicated that although Americans favoured the use of military action against Iraq by 2:1, Europeans opposed it by the same margin. There are four key factors that help influence persuasion amongst the masses, depending on their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The central route to persuasion requires high efforts of processing which occurs through a complex structure, thus leads to longer lasting effects of persuasion. However, if an audience is lacking in motivation, in which they are not analytical or involved with the message they are more likely to take the peripheral route to persuasion. In this case, peripheral cues are used in which these cues trigger an acceptance of the messages thus leading to persuasion, which is usually a temporary effect [Myers et al 2016 p190 191]. Social psychologists have not only studied the effects of persuasion, but also the elements that contribute to attitude change. Carl Hovland (1953) developed the Hovland Yale model of persuasion, in which he used a research team from Yale University. They found that there are a considerable number of factors that can influence how likely attitude changes are to occur, however they also noticed that some are more important than others [McGuire et al 1996]. One of the key factors they found that determines whether persuasion occurs is the communicator. Social psychologists have found that persuasion can be influenced depending about who is presenting the argument, which can impact on how an audience receives it. Although Shakespeare does not necessarily use worth in its traditional way of making people feel important, he sparks competition within his men, which would likely be more effective at such a low point in their war. He says to his men All real heroes are not storybook combat fighters, either. Every single man in this Army plays a vital role. Don t ever let up. Don t ever think that your job is unimportant. Every man has a job to do and he must do it. Every man has a vital link in the great chain (Patton 38 40). There is one big difference in the way Shakespeare and Patton used worth. You might be wondering, Why does Raphael have a one hundred foot beard, and if he is so devilishly handsome, why does he live by himself in a tower? Well, Raphael was kidnapped as a child by a warlock who always wanted a son. However, as Raphael grew older he became a real hunk, and this warlock, named Ricardio, grew envious of his looks. As punishment for being so handsome, the warlock put a spell on Raphael that made it impossible for him to shave and locked him in a tower so no one could ever see his beautifully carved jawline and luscious face.
