T6.2.2 Implementation of RS-EBVs in habitat modelling
Stephan Hennekens, Peter Verweij, Sander Mücher & Wouter Meijninger
• Task 6.2.2 will demonstrate the use of RS-EBVs for habitat monitoring in order
to support the European Environment Agency (EEA) and it’s Topic Centre for
Biological Diversity (ETC-BD).
• Using RS-EBVs modelling better predictions can be made to where valuable
habitats occur or potentially may occur.
• As input for the modelling observation data (derived from the European
Vegetation Archive (EVA database) of about 200 EUNIS habitats is available.
• The model can be executed using a selection of a maximum of 30 predictors
(comprising 7 climate parameters, 7 soil parameters, and 13 RS-EBVs).
• All predictors have the same extent (Europe) and a resolution of 1x1km.
For the modelling Maxent version 3.4.1 is used.
• Future versions of the web application will also operate on a smaller scale
(e.g. Netherlands, Bavarian mountains), but with high resolution predictors.
• The modelling process is currently running on the Terradue cloud platform.

Implementation of RS-EBVs in Habitat Modelling

  • 1. T6.2.2 Implementation of RS-EBVs in habitat modelling Stephan Hennekens, Peter Verweij, Sander Mücher & Wouter Meijninger • Task 6.2.2 will demonstrate the use of RS-EBVs for habitat monitoring in order to support the European Environment Agency (EEA) and it’s Topic Centre for Biological Diversity (ETC-BD). • Using RS-EBVs modelling better predictions can be made to where valuable habitats occur or potentially may occur. • As input for the modelling observation data (derived from the European Vegetation Archive (EVA database) of about 200 EUNIS habitats is available. • The model can be executed using a selection of a maximum of 30 predictors (comprising 7 climate parameters, 7 soil parameters, and 13 RS-EBVs). • All predictors have the same extent (Europe) and a resolution of 1x1km. For the modelling Maxent version 3.4.1 is used. • Future versions of the web application will also operate on a smaller scale (e.g. Netherlands, Bavarian mountains), but with high resolution predictors. • The modelling process is currently running on the Terradue cloud platform.
