1. Image Analysis
This is a mid-shot of Beyoncé. Within the mise en scene
there is high key lighting, this highlights her features and
her clothes. Her make-up and clothes are enticing, and is
appealing to both genders; her bright red lips and dark
brown eyes stand out. Her clothing is partially revealing up
to a point which is stereotypical of the media. It does not
have symmetry. Beyoncé has direct eye contact with the
camera, this suggests she is trying to look sexy and
seductive, this represents a stereotypical representation
for the media because they try to over sexualise things.
This could be positive and negative as she is an appealing,
confident woman and is showing off her femininity. It is
also on the other hand bad, because it is stereotypical of
the media.
This is a close-up of Justin Timberlake. Within the
mise en scene the photo is in black and white, this
shows a vintage/retro look, this corresponds with
the suit and bow tie he is wearing. This is effective
and easy for the audience to pick it out. Justin is
looking away from the camera, he is not using
direct eye –contact, and this could suggest he
showing his jaw line and the sharpness, this along
with the black and white effect and his stubble
gives the picture an edgy look.
This is a mid-shot of Rihanna. Within the mise en scene,
high key lighting is used, this emphasises her eyes,
teeth and cleavage. It is very stereotypical of R&B as
she is bending over and showing her cleavage, this is a
negative representation of women. Her tattoo is
visible; this could show she is daring. She is biting her
lip; this shows she is trying to be sexual. Also the use of
a gold tint shows money and wealth, it could be to
represent her origin and Caribbean background, this is
also stereotypical of R&B.
2. Image Analysis
This is a long-shot of Miley Cyrus. Within the mise
en scene, high key lighting is used to highlight
features on her face. Her clothing or lack of is a
negative representation of women in the music
industry. She looks really washed out and so the
intensity of her lipstick and her eyebrows stand out.
She is using direct address, this shows she is a
confident young female. Her pink hair and tattoo’s
make her look edgy and out of the ordinary for her
genre of music.
This is a black and white mid shot of Chris
Brown. The black and white effect along with
that fact he is in a suit suggests he is
sophisticated and wealthy. This is a positive
representation of male artists. The fact he is
looking away from the camera suggests that
he is a bit arrogant, in addition the female
legs within the mise en scene suggests that
he is popular with the females. Tattoos are
generally associated with working-class
people but because he is famous he could be
middle-class. The fact he has tattoos suggests
a binary opposition between classes.
This is a mid-shot of Eminem. The direct eye
contact makes him come across as intimidating
along with the tattoos on his arms. The tattoos
also represent his troubled past and
background. Usually jewellery is fake and used
as costume jewellery for the working-class but
as we know he is wealthy, they could be real
gold and silver which is still quite tacky
