Hanil Jaya Steel as the steel smelting factory is the one of industrial company around
Surabaya that produce slag waste, the use of slag waste for minimalize buildup that
brings negative effect in environment. Thus, this research is implemented the use slag
steel waste as a replacement of Madura gravel, the gravel and sand will be taken from
Bangkalan. This study aimed to investigate the gravel’s influence of Bangkalan and
slag characteristic on asphalt concrete mixture. Experimental method is conducted in
this study by using the experiment to obtain the result, hence, the use of slag steel gravel
on asphalt concrete construction can be various with slag levels; 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%,
40% and 50%. SNI procedure will be followed while checking Madura’s aggregate,
slag aggregate and the asphalt. The result of examination and analysis of asphalt
concrete mixture characteristic using the variation level of slag steel gravel is shown
performance improvement of asphalt concrete mixture. The stability result of asphalt
level shows 6 % as the highest score, 5 % asphalt level of durability as the highest
score, 5.5 % asphalt level of Marshall Quotient as the highest score. By using 40mm

Abstract Concrete is a widely used construction material which contains four major ingredients such as coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, cement and water. The consumption of concrete is increasing every year with the number of developmental activities in infrastructure sector. The production of cement involves high energy consumption. Hence, there is a need to reduce the consumption of cement in concrete by using other alternate materials which posses cementitious properties. Fly ash is one such material which can be used as a replacement to cement in concrete. The present study aims in observing the variation of strength of different grades of concrete with different levels of fly ash replacement. The objective of the study is to re-establish the findings of earlier research done in the area of fly ash concrete. The grades of concrete selected for the study are M20, M35 and M50. The fly ash replacements considered for the study are 0%, 20%, 35% and 50% of cement by weight. The results of this study indicates that for M20 and M35 grades of concrete, there is increase in strength with 35% cement replacement by fly ash. Effect of mill scale and fly ash waste on the performance of cement mortareSAT Journals
Abstract
This paper investigates effect of mill scale and fly ash wastes as a replacement of fine aggregate generally natural sand on the performance of cement mortar. Utilization of fly ash and mill scale in cement mortar production not only provides significant environmental benefits but also enhances performance of the cement mortar when used at optimum amounts. They may be used in the form of finely ground additive to replace part of aggregates in cement mortar. This study looked at the feasibility of mill scale and fly ash waste inclusion as partial aggregate replacement in normal cement mortar. Properties of cement mortar incorporating fly ash and mill scale waste as partial substitution for natural aggregate were investigated. The study involves six replacement levels of mill scale and fly ash wastes into cement mortar for each mix design. Mortar cubes are tested for strength, & water absorption. The partial replacement of fine aggregate by M(3,30), M(5,30), M(8,30), M(10,30), M(12,30), M(15,30) ( M-mix of mill scale & fly ash %) improves the properties of normal mortar. In the design mix of industrial wastes produced, percentage of fly ash is kept constant (30 %) and mill scale is varied from 0 to 15 % by weight of natural sand. The test results indicate that the mechanical properties of mill scale and fly ash modified mortar are improved to a great extent, whereas the water absorption is reduced as compared to that of plain mortar.

Enhancement of torsional resistance in fibrous normal strength concrete beamseSAT Journals
Abstract This paper highlights the influence of thickness of concrete cover on the torsional resistance in the fibrous rectangular solid concrete beams under pure torsion. In this investigation, thickness of concrete cover vary between 18 and 53 mm. To study the influence of concrete cover in under-reinforced fibrous normal strength concrete, four fibrous concrete beams were cast and test under pure torsion. The under-reinforced concrete beams was designed based on ACI-318-14. The transverse and longitudinal reinforcement indexes are kept constant in the beams. While the aspect ratio of the beam cross section and span to depth ratio of the beams are 1.22 and 5.75, respectively. The test results were claimed that the torsional resistance provided by concrete and reinforcements plus fibre were enhanced at crack and peak loads up to 76.4% and 64.4%, respectively. In contrast, twisting angle, shear strain in concrete, strain in transverse and longitudinal reinforcements were reduced up to 57.8%, 65%, 89.3% and 95.6%, respectively. The spacing between cracks and the angle of inclination of crack at failure was increased whereas the number of cracks reduced. The dimensional analysis was used to proposed equations to predict torsional resistance at crack and peak loads including the contribution of concrete cover. In addition, the Buckingham П theorem was used for this purpose. Based on the 34 data from previous researches and the data in this research, nonlinear multiple regressions in Minitab software version 16 was used to predict the coefficients of the proposed П-groups equations. As concrete is the most abundant material used in the world, it contains aggregate content of around 60 to 70 %. Since aggregate are being used rapidly there has been a scarcity in the avaibility of these materials. This research investigates the effect of partially replacing aggregates by burnt brick bats and lateritic fines in concrete respectively for M25 grade concrete. The incorporation is done for 5%, 10% and 15% of burnt brick bats for coarse aggregate and by talking 15% of lateritic fines as constant for fine aggregate by conducting compressive strength test which gave the optimum value of 15% for natural sand. The compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength was conducted. The results showed density of of the concrete incorporating brick and laterite was lower compared to conventional concrete, the concrete with 5% burnt brick and 15% lateritic soil showed increased strength for 7 days compared to normal concrete but when 28 days test was conducted the strength was similar to conventional concrete. The split tensile and flexural strength of replaced concrete was found to be lower than the nominal concrete.
Effect of sugarcane bagasse ash on strength properties of concreteeSAT Journals
Abstract The present study focuses on the utilization of Sugarcane Bagasse Ash as replacement material for cement in concrete production. Sugarcane Bagasse ash contains high amorphous silica content and aluminium ion. For experimental investigations, Sugarcane bagasse ash and its chemical properties are obtained from KCP sugar factory, Andhra Pradesh. Ordinary Portland cement was partly replaced by sugarcane bagasse ash in the ratio of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% by weight and the influence of Sugarcane bagasse ash as a partial replacement material has been examined on fresh concrete tests by Compaction factor test and Slump cone test as well as on hardened concrete with tests for Compressive strength, Split tensile strength, Flexural strength and Modulus of Elasticity. The results indicate that inclusion of Sugarcane Bagasse Ash in concrete up to 20% level significantly enhanced the strength of concrete. Abstract The bituminous pavement rehabilitation alternatives are mainly overlaying, recycling and reconstruction. In the recycling process the material from deteriorated pavement, known as reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), is partially or fully reused and it is a valuable approach for technical, economical, and environmental reasons. Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) is one of the cold methods of recycling the bituminous pavements. In this study an experimental stretch is selected for FDR in which the full flexible pavement section and a predetermined portion of the underlying materials are milled and remixed with about 10 % of 10 mm down size aggregate and 30 % stone dust to match the Bituminous Concrete (BC) Grade-I mix limits and known quantity of RBI 81 stabilizer. Stabilization of RAP material with RBI grade 81 reduces the requirement of new materials, time of construction and increases the strength of the road. This report consist of a case study of road constructed at Jnanabharathi campus, Banglore University, which include assessment of existing pavement condition and the preparation of pavement surface for the construction of stabilized layer and construction aspects of pavement using RAP material stabilized with RBI grade 81. The report also presents results of some short term functional and structural condition studies on the study stretch. From the limited studies carried out it is concluded the RAP material can be used effectively by the stabilization with RBI grade 81. From the field studies it is concluded that the strength of the pavement increases with increase in RBI grade 81 dosages. COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF STEEL SLAG AGGREGATE AND ARTIFICIAL SAND IN CONCRETE IAEME Publication
Steel slag is a byproduct of steel making processes of steel industry. It’s also one of the biggest industrial waste which is being produced worldwide in a huge quantity. This research deals with substantial replacement of natural aggregates and natural sand used in concrete. In this study coarse aggregate were partially replaced with steel slag aggregate with different replacement percentage in concrete i.e. 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%. In which we found compressive strength of concrete with various percentage of steel slag aggregate. We found a significant increase in compressive strength at 20% aggregate replacement. We got an increase in compressive strength by
1.1 times than that of our convectional concrete.
Effect of gradation of aggregates on marshall properties of sdbc mix designeSAT Journals
Abstract
Semi Dense Bituminous concrete (SDBC) is the upper bituminous layer of the road subjected to moderate traffic loads. The
grading of aggregates used to prepare the SDBC mix should fall within the limits specified in MoRTH. For each aggregate
fraction there is a specified gradation range with lower and higher limits of aggregates passing through a particular sieve size.
The gradation range specified in MoRTH is quite wide. Therefore mix design by adopting a particular gradation of the aggregate
falling within the MoRTH range also affects the Marshall properties. The present study is taken to evaluate the Marshall property
of SDBC mix prepared using the aggregate having different grading within the grading limits specified by the MoRTH. In order to
study this aspect five mixes having different gradation were prepared. The gradation used correspond to Lower Grade (L.G.),
Lower Middle Grade (L.M.G.), Middle Grade (M.G.), Higher Middle Grade (H.M.G.), Higher Grade (H.G.) of the gradation
range specified by MoRTH . The test result revealed that there is significant variation in Marshall Properties of the mixes having
different gradation of the aggregates. The Stability values obtained is maximum for the Lower Middle Grade (L.M.G.) range of
MoRTH specification. The Flow values obtained is maximum for the Middle Grade (M.G.).The Optimum Bitumen Content
(O.B.C.) is also minimum in Lower Middle Grade (L.M.G.).

A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY ON PARTIAL REPLACEMENT OF CEMENT WITH SUGARCANE BAGASSE...IAEME Publication
A Large quantities of waste materials and by-products are generated from manufacturing processes, service industries and municipal solid wastes, etc. As a result, solid waste management has become one of the major environmental concerns in the world. With the increasing awareness about the environment, scarcity of land-fill space and due to its ever increasing cost, waste materials and by-products utilization has become an attractive alternative to disposal. High consumption of natural sources, high amount production of industrial wastes and environmental pollution require obtaining new solutions for a sustainable development.Ordinary Portland cement is recognized as a major construction material throughout the world.
Experimental investigation was carried out to study the feasibility of unseived stone dust (a
product obtained from crushing of granite) as fine aggregate in place of river sand in making cement
mortar 1:3, 1:4, 1:5 and 1:6, which are the mixes usually adopted in various construction activities.
The results obtained are comparable with the conventional mortar. It is concluded that the
compressive strength at 28 days of unseived stone dust used as fine aggregate in mortar gives 5%
higher strength for the ratio of 1:4, 1:5, and 1:6, where as 5% less than the conventional mortar for
the ratio 1:3. Therefore the unseived stone dust in raw form can be confidently used as a good
construction material in making mortar and that a maximum of 10-13% of fine materials i.e less than
150 micron in the unseived Stone dust may not affect the strength of the mortar
In the recent years, the rapid growths of population and industrialization levels have been
resulted in increased for demand of transportation. In addition, this growth increases the traffic loads
which cause several pavement distresses such as rutting. Several trials were made to control
pavement rutting by mix enhancement. These trials were already limited pavement rutting, but on the
other hand showed pavement cracking as a result of lower flexibility for the modified pavements.
This study aims at investigating the effect of crumb rubber on the characteristics of asphalt mixes. To
achieve this objective, crumb rubber with different percentages of fine aggregate (0, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20,
24 and 28%) were used to manufacture the investigated asphalt mixes. Marshall designs were used to
obtain the optimum asphalt contents and the corresponding characteristics of the investigated mixes.
Other mix characteristics including Marshall stiffness, loss of stability, tensile strength as well as
rutting resistance were measured for the investigated mixes. Loss of stability test, indirect tensile test
(ITT) and wheel tracking test (WTT) were conducted to measure these characteristics. Analyzing the
study results showed that, the use of crumb rubber has a noticeable effect on the characteristics of
asphalt mixes. It is noticed that, the use of rubber percent up to 16% by weight of fine aggregate
increases the pavement resistance to cracking and does not greatly affect the pavement resistance to
rutting.
Due to growing environmental awareness, as well as stricter regulations on managing industrial waste, the world is increasingly turning to researching properties of industrial waste and finding solutions on using its valuable component parts so that those might be used as secondary raw material in other industrial branches. Although iron and steel slag is still today considered waste and is categorized in industrial waste catalogues in most countries in the world, it is most definitely not waste, neither by its physical and chemical properties nor according to data on its use as valuable material for different purposes. Moreover, since the earliest times of the discovery and development of processes of iron and other metals production, slag as by-product is used for satisfying diverse human needs, from the production of medicines and agro-technical agents to production of cement and construction element. Considering the specificity of physical and chemical properties of metallurgical slags and a series of possibilities for their use in other industrial branches and in the field of civil constructions, this report demonstrates the possibilities of using iron slag as partial replacement of sand in concrete. Iron and steel making slag are by products of the iron making and steel making processes. To date, these types of slag have been widely used in cement and as aggregate for civil works. The report presents an investigation of mechanical and durability properties of concrete by adding iron slag as replacement of sand in various percentages. The results show that the strength properties of concrete increase significantly when sand is partially replaced by iron slag.

MODELING AND ANALYSIS OF SURFACE ROUGHNESS AND WHITE LATER THICKNESS IN WIRE-...IAEME Publication
White layer thickness (WLT) formed and surface roughness in wire electric discharge turning (WEDT) of tungsten carbide composite has been made to model through response surface methodology (RSM). A Taguchi’s standard Design of experiments involving five input variables with three levels has been employed to establish a mathematical model between input parameters and responses. Percentage of cobalt content, spindle speed, Pulse on-time, wire feed and pulse off-time were changed during the experimental tests based on the Taguchi’s orthogonal array L27 (3^13). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that the mathematical models obtained can adequately describe performance within the parameters of the factors considered. There was a good agreement between the experimental and predicted values in this study.

The study explores the reasons for a transgender to become entrepreneurs. In this study transgender entrepreneur was taken as independent variable and reasons to become as dependent variable. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire containing a five point Likert Scale. The study examined the data of 30 transgender entrepreneurs in Salem Municipal Corporation of Tamil Nadu State, India. Simple Random sampling technique was used. Garrett Ranking Technique (Percentile Position, Mean Scores) was used as the analysis for the present study to identify the top 13 stimulus factors for establishment of trans entrepreneurial venture. Economic advancement of a nation is governed upon the upshot of a resolute entrepreneurial doings. The conception of entrepreneurship has stretched and materialized to the socially deflated uncharted sections of transgender community. Presently transgenders have smashed their stereotypes and are making recent headlines of achievements in various fields of our Indian society. VOICE BASED ATM FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED USING ARDUINOIAEME Publication
The prototype of a voice-based ATM for visually impaired using Arduino is to help people who are blind. This uses RFID cards which contain users fingerprint encrypted on it and interacts with the users through voice commands. ATM operates when sensor detects the presence of one person in the cabin. After scanning the RFID card, it will ask to select the mode like –normal or blind. User can select the respective mode through voice input, if blind mode is selected the balance check or cash withdraw can be done through voice input. Normal mode procedure is same as the existing ATM.

The present study uses exploratory research to examine the relationship between the Organization's culture and the Effectiveness of the Performance Management System. The study uses a Structured Questionnaire to collect the primary data. For this study, Thirty-six non-clinical employees were selected from twelve randomly selected Health Care organizations at Thanjavur. Thirty-two fully completed questionnaires were received.

The goal of this study was to see how talent management affected employee retention in the selected IT organizations in Chennai. The fundamental issue was the difficulty to attract, hire, and retain talented personnel who perform well and the gap between supply and demand of talent acquisition and retaining them within the firms. The study's main goals were to determine the impact of talent management on employee retention in IT companies in Chennai, investigate talent management strategies that IT companies could use to improve talent acquisition, performance management, career planning and formulate retention strategies that the IT firms could use. The respondents were given a structured close-ended questionnaire with the 5 Point Likert Scale as part of the study's quantitative research design. The target population consisted of 289 IT professionals. The questionnaires were distributed and collected by the researcher directly. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to collect and analyse the questionnaire responses. Hypotheses that were formulated for the various areas of the study were tested using a variety of statistical tests. The key findings of the study suggested that talent management had an impact on employee retention. The studies also found that there is a clear link between the implementation of talent management and retention measures. Management should provide enough training and development for employees, clarify job responsibilities, provide adequate remuneration packages, and recognise employees for exceptional performance.

Only 303 respondents were collected out of 350 participants to whom questionnaires were distributed. From the employees of IT organizations located in Bangalore (India), the data were congregated. A simple random sampling methodology was employed to congregate data as of the respondents. Generating the hypothesis along with testing is eventuated. The effect of EI and TM along with regression analysis between TM and EI was analyzed. The outcomes indicated that employee and Organizational Performance (OP) were elevated by effective EI along with TM.

The NPAs growth directly and indirectly affects the quality of assets and profitability of banks. It also shows the efficiency of banks credit risk management and the recovery effectiveness. NPA do not generate any income, whereas, the bank is required to make provisions for such as assets that why is a double edge weapon. This paper outlines the concept of quality of bank loans of different types like Housing, Agriculture and MSME loans in state Haryana of selected public and private sector banks. This study is highlighting problems associated with the role of commercial bank in financing Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME). The overall objective of the research was to assess the effect of the financing provisions existing for the setting up and operations of MSMEs in the country and to generate recommendations for more robust financing mechanisms for successful operation of the MSMEs, in turn understanding the impact of MSME loans on financial institutions due to NPA. There are many research conducted on the topic of Non- Performing Assets (NPA) Management, concerning particular bank, comparative study of public and private banks etc. In this paper the researcher is considering the aggregate data of selected public sector and private sector banks and attempts to compare the NPA of Housing, Agriculture and MSME loans in state Haryana of public and private sector banks. The tools used in the study are average and Anova test and variance. The findings reveal that NPA is common problem for both public and private sector banks and is associated with all types of loans either that is housing loans, agriculture loans and loans to SMES. NPAs of both public and private sector banks show the increasing trend. In 2010-11 GNPA of public and private sector were at same level it was 2% but after 2010-11 it increased in many fold and at present there is GNPA in some more than 15%. It shows the dark area of Indian banking sector.

An experiment conducted in this study found that BaSO4 changed Nylon 6's mechanical properties. By changing the weight ratios, BaSO4 was used to make Nylon 6. This Researcher looked into how hard Nylon-6/BaSO4 composites are and how well they wear. Experiments were done based on Taguchi design L9. Nylon-6/BaSO4 composites can be tested for their hardness number using a Rockwell hardness testing apparatus. On Nylon/BaSO4, the wear behavior was measured by a wear monitor, pinon-disc friction by varying reinforcement, sliding speed, and sliding distance, and the microstructure of the crack surfaces was observed by SEM. This study provides significant contributions to ultimate strength by increasing BaSO4 content up to 16% in the composites, and sliding speed contributes 72.45% to the wear rate

Still 22 percent of the Indian population is below the poverty line and also there is disparity among the rural & urban population in terms of families living under BPL. 25.7 percent of the rural population & 13.7 percent of the urban population is under BPL which clearly shows the disparity of the poor people in the rural and urban areas. The need to develop social entrepreneurship in agriculture is dictated by a large number of social problems. Such problems include low living standards, unemployment, and social tension. The reasons that led to the emergence of the practice of social entrepreneurship are the above factors. The research problem lays upon disclosing the importance of role of social entrepreneurship in rural development of India. The paper the tendencies of social entrepreneurship in India, to present successful examples of such business for providing recommendations how to improve situation in rural areas in terms of social entrepreneurship development. OPTIMAL RECONFIGURATION OF POWER DISTRIBUTION RADIAL NETWORK USING HYBRID MET...IAEME Publication
Distribution system is a critical link between the electric power distributor and the consumers. Most of the distribution networks commonly used by the electric utility is the radial distribution network. However in this type of network, it has technical issues such as enormous power losses which affect the quality of the supply. Nowadays, the introduction of Distributed Generation (DG) units in the system help improve and support the voltage profile of the network as well as the performance of the system components through power loss mitigation. In this study network reconfiguration was done using two meta-heuristic algorithms Particle Swarm Optimization and Gravitational Search Algorithm (PSO-GSA) to enhance power quality and voltage profile in the system when simultaneously applied with the DG units. Backward/Forward Sweep Method was used in the load flow analysis and simulated using the MATLAB program. Five cases were considered in the Reconfiguration based on the contribution of DG units. The proposed method was tested using IEEE 33 bus system. Based on the results, there was a voltage profile improvement in the system from 0.9038 p.u. to 0.9594 p.u.. The integration of DG in the network also reduced power losses from 210.98 kW to 69.3963 kW. Simulated results are drawn to show the performance of each case.

In this paper, we investigated a queuing model of fuzzy environment-based a multiple channel queuing model (M/M/C) ( /FCFS) and study its performance under realistic conditions. It applies a nonagonal fuzzy number to analyse the relevant performance of a multiple channel queuing model (M/M/C) ( /FCFS). Based on the sub interval average ranking method for nonagonal fuzzy number, we convert fuzzy number to crisp one. Numerical results reveal that the efficiency of this method. Intuitively, the fuzzy environment adapts well to a multiple channel queuing models (M/M/C) ( /FCFS) are very well.

1. INTRODUCTION
Madura is one of the island in East Java that has a huge material potential. However, it is mostly
used for concrete material rather than road pavement (highway structure). The color of
aggregate from Madura is brownish and slightly white. Not only use that material, this research
also use the waste from steel smelting as the gravel replacement from Madura. Nowadays,
residual production or waste keep on increasing due to the industrial development, especially
in Indonesia. Thus, facilitate and utilizing waste is needed for decreasing the negativity effect
of the waste.
Steel slag is the result of steel smelting processes. Steel slag has characteristic like gravel
with hollow surface, yet, the hollow doesn’t connect to each other, and so, the toughness
doesn’t disappear until even the smallest particle when the slag is torn in the breaking process
because slag aggregate has the highest toughness and this is useful for road pavement.
Abovementioned, this research is investigating the use of slag waste as coarse aggregate by
mixing the material from Madura for asphalt concrete mixture in highway planning which used
in footing layer planning. There are several previous study that has the exactly concern about
the use of the steel slag. Those are;
Wanga, G., Wanga, Y. H., & Gaob, Z. (2010). Use of steel slag as a granular material:
volume expansion prediction and usability criteris. Journal of Hazardous Materials, 184,
555-560.
The minimum (lowest) absorbable void volume is approximately 7.5%, which is unrelated
to the free lime content. A usability criterion is then developed based on the volume expansion
of steel slag (%) and the minimum percentage of the volume that can take the volume expansion
of steel slag (%). Eventually the criterion (relationship) is established based on the free lime
content, the specific gravity and bulk relative gravity of a specific steel slag sample. The criteria
can be used as guidance and specification for the use of steel slag and other expansion-prone
nonferrous slags, copper, nickel for instance as a granular material in highway construction.

In general can be said that the use of steel slag especially at optimal ratio improved the
subbase layer density, strength and failure resistance especially for horizontal distance of 60
cm from load center. Thus, this research recommends utilizing industrial by-products such as
steel slag especially in developing countries to reduce the use of primary aggregate and thus
minimize the cost of road construction.
1.1. Asphalt Concrete
Asphalt concrete layer which known as AC, is one of the types of paved pavement mixture
layer. This type of pavement is using evenly mixed between aggregate and asphalt as a binder
and heated at certain temperature. Stated by (Spesifikasi Umum Bidang Jalan dan Jembatan,
Divisi VI Perkerasan Aspal, Dep. PU) asphalt concrete footing divided into 3 types, those are:
1. Asphalt concrete layer as the wear layer, known as AC – WC (Asphalt Concrete –
Wearing Course) with the size of aggregate maximum19 mm and minimum
thickness 4 cm.
2. Asphalt concrete layer as abetween layer or known as AC – BC (Asphalt Concrete
– Binder Course) with the size of aggregate maximum 25.4 mm minimum thickness
6 cm.
3. Asphalt concrete layer as a footinglayer or known as AC-Base (Asphalt Concrete –
Base) with the size of aggregate maximum 37.5 mm minimum thickness 7.5 cm.

The layer is used as a base or footing, even though this layer doesn’t have
correlation with the weather, yet, base layer has the high of stability level to carry
the traffic load that is given by the previous layer.
1.2. The Basic Materialof Asphalt Concrete Mixture
1.2.1. (Asphalt Cement, AC)
Asphalt defines as black or dark brown material in a room temperature is solid until it is rather
dense. Low penetration AC is used for hot area or high traffic volume while high penetration
AC is used for cold area or low traffic volume. This study conducts penetration AC 60/70. The
asphalt for asphalt concrete mixture has to be selected as the requirements stated in the table
2.1

Slag is the result of residue of burning high furnace which produced by steel slag industrial and
one of them is slag waste that physically more like coarse aggregate. There are two
characteristics of steel slag waste, they are; chemistry and physical characteristic.

The mixture of each aggregate fraction has to be firstly checked about the gradation and then
combined by using several comparing methods like; rectangular method, trial method or
triangular method which can produce the mixture aggregate that completed gradation
specification.

2. DATA COLLECTION
This study is about the use of steel slag waste as gravel replacement of Madura for pavement
road as the foundation layer. The data needed in this study are collected in the laboratory such
as; the analysis of filter, mass and absorbent, abrasion for coarse and fine aggregate while
asphalt testing is for penetration, mass, flash point and ductility.
Filter analysis is used to know the particle gradation of coarse and fine aggregate, slag
aggregate, massis used to know about SSD mass and absorbent mass of coarse and fine
aggregate, slag and abrasion that it used to know conservation of both coarse and fine aggregate
because the pavement road materials can be used to endure the transportation volume.
Asphalt penetration is used to know asphalt thickness in certain temperature (0
c),
penetration also defines to investigate the pavement of low, medium or high traffic volume.
Softening and flash point is used to know the limit of the asphalt in certain temperature (0
c)
while ductility is used to know the limit of asphalt elasticity using in pavement road whether it
can stick to the coarse and fine aggregate.
The characteristic of coarse and fine aggregate has to be filled in the requirements, then,
mixture design of the aggregate will be the next step to define the percentage of the aggregate
mixture needed. The mass of coarse gravel aggregate and the slag percentage counted as 0%,
10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%. Defining the optimum level of asphalt and the considering the
composition of the mixture by making the testing tool as much as the slag percentage and based

on 5 different asphalt level (3tools), then, Marshall testing should be done to know the influence
of the slag over the characteristic stability, durability and flexibility, and the requirement will
be obtained as the result to foundation layer in the pavement road in Madura island.

The testing is shown the result of the density completed the specification from Pd T-04-
2005-B, Dep PUand can be seen in table 3.3. There is tendency to density improvement as the
slag level increase, the highest density obtained by the sla level on 50% with the value on 2.57

Table 3.4is showed that VMA value fulfilled the specification, can be seen form the
improvement of the value as the gravel slag level increasing in the mixture. The reason beyond
this result is because the more slag level, the less aggregate particles and slag void getting
bigger that can make available room for keeping asphalt volume and the need of void volume
becomes wider.
3.2.2. Void Filled inAsphalt
VFB is the void that filled in the asphalt while the mixture and become dense which stated in
(%) toward the void in aggregate particle (VMA).

Stability is an ability of pavement layer to carry the traffic load without any permanent

Table3.7showed that every stability value fulfilled the requirements. Stability has increased
up to the optimum limit; 30% slag, with the asphalt level 6% on 2487 kg.

Table3.8identified the fulfilled slag level that met the requirements is 0% with the asphalt
level 5.5% - 7%, 10% slag with asphalt level 5 – 5.5%, 20% slag with asphalt level 6% - 7%,
30% slag with asphalt level 6% – 7%, 40% slag with asphalt level 6.5%then on the level50%
slag all of the VIM value failed to meet the requirements.
3.3.3. The Result of the Slag Influence on Flexibility Mixture
Marshall Quotient (MQ) is the divided result between stability and flow. MQ value is shown
that the more MQ value, the mixture becomes dense and if it does, the mixture is tend to break,
yet, if the mixture is too elastic, it becomes unstable.

Table3.9stated the slag level 0% - 50% has fulfilled the specification from MQ
requirements and from this table, MQ value increased as the steel slag level has improvement.
However, MQ value decreased after the slag level reach the optimum value; 30% and will keep
on decreasing until50%.

Marshall test result met the requirements to plan the footing layer on pavement road
BASED ON pavement road Manual (revision on June, 2017) Number 04/SE/Db/2017 footing
layer thickness 40 mm with tolerance thickness ± 3 mm.
4. CONCLUSION
4.1. Conclusion
The result of testing and analysing the asphalt concrete mixture characteristic by using the
variety of slag gravel level is shown there is improvement on the asphalt concrete mixture
which can be explained through the characteristics below:
4.1.1. Stability
Mixture stability which used steel slag gravel has improved up to optimum limit;30%, then,
has decreased up to 50% level. The highest stability on asphalt level is on 6 % with the slag
optimum level on30%
4.1.2. Fleksibility
Flexibility mixture value stated with Marshall Quotient (MQ). It showed that the value has
increased as the slag gravel level has improved in the asphalt concrete mixture up to the highest
limit;30% with the asphalt level; 5%, and will be decreased after.
4.1.3. Durability
Durability or preservation cope such a large field; durability correlate with the void in the
mixture (VIM) and abrasion value from coarse aggregate mixture, VIM value in this study has
increased as the slag gravel level is improved in the mixture, the optimum of durability value
occurred on slag gravel level; 30% with the asphalt level 6%.

Marshall’s result and mixture composition fulfilled the specification on pavement elastic
planning for footing layer.
