Carrie Deans evaluated her work on the short film "Keepsake". She learned many new skills in pre-production, production, and post-production. In pre-production, she storyboarded ideas and planned the shoot. During production, she took on roles like sound and acting. In post-production, she gained confidence using Adobe Premiere but found room for improvement in areas like editing techniques, lighting, and sound quality. Overall she acquired new skills but would improve areas like sound, camerawork, lighting, and editing if making the film again.

1. Evaluation of Keepsake – Carrie Deans
In the process of making this short film I have learnt many new things. In terms of pre-
production I feel like I performed fairly well and completed all the work to the deadlines and
tried my hardest on them. I storyboarded all of my ideas clearly and thought out where
would be best to film our short film and the health hazards that came along with this. When
it came to the production of our short film I feel like I was a very active member of our
production group. I took on a few roles in producing our short film such as being on sound
and acting in it. I found that to be an active member in a production group and in producing
a film you have to be very dedicated to it and turn up to all shoots and try your hardest if
you want good results. As far as post production goes it’s just as much work editing it
together than filming the footage. I feel like I have become very confident in using Adobe
Premiere. In a few of our shots the sound was a bit low and the camera work was a bit shaky
and I’ve tried my best to make this not very noticeable.
Overall I think the technical quality of my final edit is ok. You can watch it in HD on you tube
but when it isn’t in HD the quality isn’t that good. The lighting in some scenes is quite low
and dull which I think is something that could be improved on. The quality of editing
techniques could be improved. It is a bit jumpy in parts and cuts too quickly. In some parts it
is very obvious that it has cut so abruptly and ruins the smooth running of the short film a
bit. I haven’t used any editing techniques in my film such as dissolves and split screens in
fear that it’d make it cheesy. There are a few unnoticeable continuity errors such as seeing
the director’s arm in the mirror in one scene.You will only notice this though if you’re
searching for mistakes and negativity.
The sound is mostly clear throughout the film but in some parts of the film the speech is
quite quiet and you have to really strain your ears to hear what is being said. I personally
think that this is because the sound engineer is stood to far away. And also in another scene
the ambience sound is so loud that you can’t hear anything but that. Over all the sound is
average. The editing of the sound is good and is in sync with the film. The soundtrack is well
edited and clear. And sets a mood for the film, slightly creepy and odd.
In making the film I have definitely acquired some new skills. For example- before I began
the editing of my short film I found it really difficult to be able to sync the sound to the
video. But now I find it really easy. If I were to take on making this film again I would do a
few things differently. For example- I would improve the sound and make sure that the
ambiance sound isn’t so loud, so maybe change locations on the outdoor scenes. I would
also make sure that the camera work isn’t too shaky and make the cutting smoother. The
last thing I would change is the lighting as I feel like it’s a bit dark and not very clear. Overall
I would say that my film has turned out reasonably well.
