The Bell Jar Summary
Sylvia Plath subjects the main character of The Bell Jar, Esther Greenwood, to a wide array of
events in the ninth chapter of the novel. Esther experiences sadness, depression, relationship
violence, and a fight for purity in the timeframe of a single day. This odd plot combination seems
from a distance like a jumbled series of unfortunate events. However, each occurrence, along with a
common emotional background of genuine sadness, proves that Esther has begun to distance
herself from her reality and her future by matters that only she can control. The plot of the ninth
chapter focuses on Esther Greenwood s final day in New York City. She begins by walking to her
final photo shoot with another female in the internship program, Hilda. They discuss their feelings
of the Rosenberg execution, which is set to occur that night. At the photo shoot, Esther is the final
woman to have her picture taken. She poses with a paper rose, and bursts out in tears before the
photographer and her boss, Jay Cee. Later that evening, Esther begins to pack for home,... Show

As Marco touches her for the first time, he leaves a thumbprint purpled into view and four, faint
matching prints on her arm. Under these circumstances, most women would realize abuse and
cease to see the man accountable any longer. However, Esther still goes to the country club with a
woman hater , hoping that the city s magnificence might rub off on me [Esther] at last. This
indicates that Esther is desperate to connect a purpose to her present situation. However, a date
night with an abusive man falls short of this desire, and Esther is ultimately left with nothing for
her time in New York City. Without any purpose derived from a once in a lifetime magazine
internship, Esther s lightly stated future goals of becoming a poet or a publisher are crushed when
she realizes that these careers involve a lifestyle that is foreign to

Baldridge
Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence
Strayer University
Dr. Finn
BUS430
The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) now known as the Baldrige National
Quality Program has been one of the most powerful catalysts for improving organizational
performance in the United States (The Collier and Evans (2011) textbook). Strategic planning is
applicable for any type of business entity or organization. However, people tend to think that it is
only meant for large businesses. Strategic planning matches the strengths of an organization to open
opportunities. In order to be effective, an organization needs to collect, screen, and analyze
information about its environment. The organization also needs to have a clear ... Show more

UC Berkeley and UC Bolder both defined their IT strategic plans and objectives for future
success. Charles McNamara (n.d.), a leading strategic planning advisor, stated that goals should
be specific, measurable, acceptable to all those working toward achievement; goals, realistic,
timely, extending the capabilities of those working to achieve the goals and which at the same
time rewarding to them. Both universities cloned the Baldrige criteria for strategic planning
though a clear understanding of their goals and needs. Baldridge criteria s to ensure that
financial, human and other resources are available to support action plans through resource
allocations were define however, UC Berkeley were not all defined as compared to US Boulder.
A action plan has to take place even with goals and objectives clearly defined by both
universities. According to McNamara (n.d.), the lay out for action planning is accomplished with
strategic goals. These action plans include specifying objectives, or specified results, with each
strategic goal. Strategic goals lead to accomplishing a set of objectives which is a goal on a
smaller scale. Generally, an objective is associated with a tactic. So implementing a strategy
typically involves implementing a set of tactics, which is still a strategy, however on a smaller
scale. Action plans includes: specifying responsibilities and timelines with each objective, or what

Racism In Neighbors
Here are the worst neighbors you d never want to have! 6 Noose hanging A suburban Detroit
business owner and his wife who hung Confederate flags and nooses on their property back in
2015 want you to know that anyone who sees their actions as racist is quote stupid.
Hmmmm.......confederate flag, not racist, okay, I can buy that one. A single noose just by
itself, not racist? Okay, you re really gonna have to have a good story here. But confederate flag
and a noose TOGETHER?! This story better be a once in a lifetime story! Neighbors must
loooove these two! Robert Tomanovich, owner of Robert s Discount Tree Service in Livonia,
Michigan, told reporters from the Daily News that he quote, wasn t racist . He said, quote, I
know black guys, I have black friends. We re all laughing at this stupidity. Do you know how
many white guys were hung back in the day? This isn t racist. But all of a sudden it s out of
control. I meannnn dude. I m not saying you re racist, but you sure as h*ll do act... Show more

Reporters said that in a phone interview, he initially had said he put up the flags because he was
from the South, but then said he was from the Detroit area, then said again he came from the
South and hung up the phone when asked to specify where. Tomanovich also said he has at least
one black employee. After much backlash, Tomanovich finally took down the nooses and flags,
but offered no apologies to anyone offended. This I agree with, because he s allowed to do what
he wants. But clearly, he couldn t handle the backlash so I still say this dude is a complete idiot.
The funniest part to me is the fact that he still wants people to know that he wasn t racist. It d
probably help a lot if he quit hanging up confederate flags and nooses outside his house and
business, you know, the same thing that racists actually do? Sigh. People like this really do

Business Owners Vs Yelp Case Study
BUSINESS OWNERS Vs. YELP! INC
INTRODUCTION:
Today, every individual can share their opinions with the entire world. The defendant in this case,
Yelp! Inc. Is a website which provides an online forum on which its users express opinions about
business. The plaintiffs, the small business owners who asserted that Yelp exactioned or attempted
to exaction advertising payments from them by manipulating user reviews and posting negative
reviews of their businesses. The business owners filed a class action lawsuit against Yelp for
violations of California s Unfair Competition Law ( UCL ).
The case affirmed the district court s dismissal of an action by small business owners asserting

To start, we note that there is no allegation that Yelp directly threatened economic harm if the
business owners refused to purchase advertising packages from Yelp. While the lack of such
express threats does not alone dispose of the extortion claims, see United States v. Marsh, 26 F.3d
1496, 1501 (9th Cir. 1994), it does make the business owners case considerably more difficult.
Absent explicit threats of economic harm, the business owners must allege sufficient facts to
support the inference, In re Century Aluminum Co. Sec. Litig., 729 F.3d 1104, 1107 (9th Cir.
2013), that Yelp inten[ded] . . . to induce payment through the use of threats or the exploitation of
[economic] fears, United States v. Greger, 716 F.2d 1275, 1278 (9th Cir. 1983). Applying this
standard, we conclude that the business owners have not alleged sufficient facts to support their
claim that Yelp authored negative user reviews of the businesses in question. For these reasons and
the reasons explained in Part II.B of this opinion, we conclude that none of the business owners
have stated a claim of unlawful conduct on the basis of extortion. We therefore affirm the dismissal
of the separate claims of civil extortion and attempted civil extortion, as

Essay about Analysis on Movie Water
CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON MOVIE WATER by Nadzirah Nur
In my opinion, Deepa Mehta is a courageous and bold director to produce a movie Water which is
intended to affront the tradition and living style of Indians back then. She displays how every
character brings up almost perfectly similar kind of stance which is because of the doctrine and
beliefs that have been set in their minds for a long period of time. The practice inherited from one
generation to another generation which later becomes the tradition of Indian community. I could
see how every widow refuses and rebuffs changes; which they are forbidden to marry again as a
result of believing in they themselves bring unluckiness or bad luck to others. In fact, other women

Changes can be made at any time as long as it is for the sake of our happiness. However, how can
Indian women in this movie pursuit their happiness when they think they are deemed to suffer after
their husbands death as a symbol of devotion to husband?
Frederick and Mary (2012) documented on their blogs regarding Deepa s response upon the
significance of water in this movie. Deepa said,
Water can flow or water can be stagnant. I set the film in the 1930s but the people in the film
live their lives as it was prescribed by a religious text more than 2000 years old. Even today,
people follow these texts, which is one reason why there continue to be millions of widows. To me,
that is a kind of stagnant water. I think traditions should not be that rigid. They should flow like
replenishing kind of water.
I personally agree that traditions should not be rigid. It can be changed as long as we never
forsake our solid ground, forgetting of who we are and where we are from. We are born to seek
and to create a better life, guided by religions to ensure that we do not go astray. If accepting
changes are simply called defiance, what should women oppression be called? I am clueless. On
the other hand, I understand that water is the element of purity in this movie. It is shown that all
Indians come to the bank of Ganges River to clean their bodies from sins or bad luck in particular.
Similarly, in Islam, Muslims need to take wudhu

Communication And Self-Efficacy
In his research Atilgan Erozkan examined how communication skills and interpersonal problem
solving skills effect adolescent s social self efficacy, the belief in one s own abilities. Before the
study begins, Erozkan defines how communication, interpersonal relationships, and self efficacy
relate. Communicationis a crucial element in forming long lasting interpersonal relationships, which
is an important aspect in adolescents developing positive self efficacy (Erozkan, 2013). Adolescents
begin to acquire life long interpersonal relationships in high school. The quality of these
relationships is highly dependent on the quality of communication that occurs between individuals
(Erozkan, 2013). The relationships that adolescents create have a direct impact on their self
efficacy when creating new interpersonal relationships and communicating (Erozkan, 2013). Before
Erozkan discusses interpersonal problem solving, the topic of interpersonal competency is outlined.
This is because interpersonal competency, the development of communication skills, relies
significantly on being able to effectively engage and understand interactions (Erozkan, 2013). If
competent communication skills are not further developed than messages being sent during
communication can become misunderstood (Erozkan, 2013). Since interpersonal relationships
allow people to influence each other any problems that arise can have a profound impact on an
individual (Erozkan, 2013). Therefore, Erozkan

Crisis Care Case Study
Crisis Care There can be a misunderstanding on what the role of a pastor should be. The
congregation member that jokes that a pastor works only one day of the week is making light of
the true role of a pastor.
When tragedy hits the families of the church, it is the pastor that is called up to comfort and bring
biblical wisdom into a tragic and unfortunate situation. Again, I Peter 5 lays out the ministry of a
pastor is to shepherd his flock. If a pastor is leading his congregation like a shepherd, then it is
not uncommon for sheep to desire for this caregiver to be near them in a time of tragedy. They are
looking for a spiritual mentor, but not all pastors are strong showing compassion.
David Deuel says that, Upon leaving seminary, many a young man discovers that his love for the
Chief Shepherd does not extend to a love for God s sheep. Without dispute, difficulties in dealing

The cause for this affair is the same as the affair with sin, a loss of their first love of Christ. Men in
this affair do not carryout a sincere love for Christ or His people, but fall into their own self

and one who was busy working for Christ. Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a

Mary, who sat at the Lord s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much

Narnia Foils
In literature, a foil is a person, object, or idea that is contrasted with another in order to highlight
and enhance its qualities. These are great literary devises which are used to draw focus to the
desired emphasis of a story. For example, in The Chronicles of Narnia, specifically The Silver
Chair and The Last Battle, Jill and Eustace are foils for each other. Their personalities balance each
other out which allows them to highlight each other s strengths and weaknesses. However, they
aren t just foils for each other, though. In The Silver Chair, the two of them together serve as foils
for the characternamed Puddleglum. They are eager to dive head first into their adventure while

He serves as a guide and a protector for the children. There are multiple occasions in which
Puddleglum saves the children from almost certain death. The first instance that comes to mind
is also in the giant city of Harfang. Had it not been for Puddleglum, the children would have
likely gone into completely panic, been caught, and certainly been eaten. Instead, Puddleglum
does a wonderful job of keeping the children calm for as long as possible and giving them the
perfect time to make a break for it and escape. Once the company made was in Underland and the
Queen returned to find them there, she attacked them at once and tried to put all of them under a
spell. Puddleglum bravely lunged towards the Queen and put out the magic fire. He severely
burned himself in this process and yet he continued to watch after the children. The Queen turned
herself into a serpent and attacked Prince Rilian Eustace and Rilian himself, along with
Puddleglum, despite his wounds, kill the Queen with their swords. In a way, Puddleglum is
almost a foil for himself! He displays all the attributes of a heroic character while being perpetually
distraught and pessimistic. These traits typically do not mix, yet Lewis does an outstanding job of
making it work for this

John Wooden s Pyramid Of Success
John Wooden once said Success is never final, Failure is never fatal. This is related to the
question of what my views of success are. To give you better insight on this question I will tell you
how i would define success using John Wooden s Pyramid of Success , identify the three most
important traits from the pyramid of success, to me, explain how they create success, and why i
thought they were the most important. Next I will use examples from the movie Hoosiers, tell
you what success looks like for the people involved, the emotions they had after their success, and
how the success impacted their lives. Lastly I will define success in my own eyes and how I have
been successful in my life.
I would define success as achieving a goal that you set out for. The three most important things on
John Wooden s Pyramid of Success are Confidence, Condition and Fight. These create success in
many ways. If you have confidence to win you will always win or come very close. If your team
is in condition you will be able to outwork the other team and be success. And if you willing to
fight to win then you will be successful in every accept of life. I thought these were important
because of how the sports I play I use all of these to be successful in these and in life in general. ...

How Did Beethoven Influence The World
Beethoven is one of the best composers we have ever had. Many say that he composed his best
works after going deaf. He was born to Johann and Maria Magdalena van Beethoven on
December 16,1770 in Bonn, Germany. His father was the one who taught him piano and violin
and mistreated him in the process. Beethoven was a average student and left school at the age of
eleven. Beethoven studied with many tutors and then eventually left Bonn to make something of
himself. Beethoven left Bonn only to come and care for his sickening mother. Soon after his
mother died and a later later his father died as well. After leaving Bonn to pursue a career he

influence was french music. The french revolution was not only famous in Bonn but also in

strong characteristic in Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach s work it was even stronger in Beethoven s.
Here is a quote by Julian Medforth Budden expressing the influences of Beethoven, Rooted in the
Classical traditions of Joseph Haydn and Mozart, his art reaches out to encompass the new spirit of
humanism and incipient nationalism expressed in the works of Goethe and Friedrich von Schiller,
his elder contemporaries in the world of literature; the stringently redefined moral imperatives of
Kant; and the ideals of the French Revolution, with its passionate concern for the freedom and
dignity of the individual .

years to create the piece. He started it at the most productive part of his life and pieces likes the

Ready-to-Eat Breakfast
R T E Cereal Breakfast Industry
Name: Andres Gil
Competitive Analysis and Strategy
The ready to eat (RTE) cereal industry has grown steadily, with a compounded annual volume rate
of three percent between 1950 and 1993. It success during the 20th century had been driven by the
surge of consumer s interest in healthy and dietary food. After World War II there was an increase
demand for vitamin fortification products. During the 50 s, pre sweetening gained popularity
among Americans and in the 70 s and through the 80 s consumer s preferences turned to granola
and natural cereals. Ready to eat breakfast cereals have become the best option for a healthy and

The more new entrants that enter the market, the more saturated and fragmented it becomes for
everyone. Brand name recognition plays a role in the RTE cereal industry. A company with a strong
brand name such as Kellogg can sometimes retain a customer even if its prices are higher than
competitors.
Power of suppliers:
There are many suppliers in this industry due to the simplicity of the materials, basic food
ingredients, needed to manufacture these products. Subsequently, supplier s cost remains relatively
low compared to other industries.
Power of buyers:
Given the number of products available, the bargaining power of customers in this industry is very
high. The two main drivers for customer s preferences are quality and price, there is no service
involved.
Threat of substitutes:
This category is very high in the RTE cereal industry. RTE cereals compete with every single
breakfast buyer option that is out in the market. For instance, a person might choose to eat an egg
sandwich or fruits or pancakes rather than cereals. Through high advertising costs, RTE cereal
companies create brand awareness among consumers by presenting their products as the healthier
breakfast option and therefore remain competitive.
Competitive rivalry:
This industry had been heavily concentrated by the big three companies during the last 90

(Paradise Patel, 2009). This study will review existing data on all levels; although the main focus
is to collect data on Kirkpatrick s Level 3 to identify transfer of learning from the TTT PT Mod 3

Donald Kirkpatrick and his son, Jim, co authored Transferring Learning Behavior (2005) which
concentrated on Kirpatrick s Level 3 Behavior. The researcher in this TTT study will obtain data
on the transfer of learning and possible changes in the teachers behaviors as a result of completing
the TTT PT Mod 3 training. Focusing on Level 3 is so critical because as Kirkpatrick (2009),
stated unless that training gets used on the job, it s really worthless. The researcher of this study
will survey training participants after they have graduated from the TTT program to provide insight
into whether learning transfer has occurred by measuring the frequency of implementation of the
technology tool presented in PT Mod 3 when teacher return to their work site.
The Kirkpatrick model has been applied to evaluate numerous training programs over the past 50
years. The Lay Trainer Learning program required trainers to use their own experiences as
caregivers to train other family caregivers. (Conceição, Johaningsmeir, Colby, Gordon, 2014)

What is a documentary? The technical term is utilizing pictures or interviews with people
involved in real events to provide a factual record on a particular unique subject. In other words, it
is a programme that provides a reputable document on a detailed subject. One influential person on
documentaries is Bill Nichols who is a filmcritic and theorist known for his pioneering work in
documentary, he compared film theoryto that of documentaries for the first time and that even
though they are made with different purposes in mind that does not separate them. Documentaries

Disadvantages Of Mantis Shrimp
To many owner having saltwater aquarium, live rock is one of the essential things which set the
natural tone for the whole tank besides fish and turtles. Not only does the collection of the
colorful live rocks beautifies one s tank but also provides shelters for the fish and filters the
whole tank. However, everything has a good side and the bad one. The addition of live rocks to
the tank may have some potential drawbacks, for not every organism living on those marine rocks
is important, and even some of them are disadvantageous to the tank itself. One exemplary
unwanted organism which lives on live rocks is the Mantis Shrimp, which maybe accidentally
introduced to the tank through the addition of live rocks. Mantis shrimp, which is a varicolored
creature living in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, is an extraordinary pet, for not only does it
colorful body impresses the people but also its powerful appendages, which are a nightmare to
crabs, gastropods, and almost all other animals in the sea. Due to its interesting feature, many
people at the present favor this species. In addition, some people even want to adopt the mantis
shrimps as their pets; nevertheless, there are many hardships coming along with this desire. As a
growing infant who can mess up with everything within his or her reach, the mantis shrimp can eat
up its neighboring organisms and some marine plants in the tank. The mantis shrimp is well known
by many scientists for its powerful weapon the raptorial appendages which is equipped for the sake
of its survival. It is this feature of the shrimp that makes it a strong hunter in the nature. Due to this
feature, especially the one owned by the Smasher species of the Mantis Shrimp, the shrimp has no
trouble breaking preys with tough shells such as crabs and snails. In addition to the raptorial
appendages, the mantis shrimp can swim insanely fast, thereby boiling water around it. While one
may be surprised by these qualities, other organisms living around it. Because of its powerful
weapon, hunting nature, and the ability to boil through the act of swimming, the mantis shrimp

Interventions Of A Case Manager
Two Interventions
Individuals living with HIV/AIDS vary across a wide and diverse spectrum of wealth, races,
religions and cultures, and many may benefit from the support interventions of a case manager.
Case managers can assist individuals in finding additional services and help to live longer and
more comfortably while living with the disease and reduce the risk of them falling through the
cracks.
HIV/AIDS
We have been aware of HIV and AIDS since the 1970s (Miller, 2012), and though there have been
treatments and reduction in the number of people infected, the disease remains. The disease results
in death usually following opportunistic infections as a result of AIDS destruction of the immune

In this setting the case manager would work best using the role based case management model
and with their primary role to function as a generalist, This role, widely used in human service
delivery, focuses primarily on providing the services that can be delivered by a helper with
knowledge and skills applicable to a range of clients in various settings (Woodside, McClam,
2013. p 75 para 3); following the role of generalist the case manager would likely take on the
roles of counselor, care coordinator, problem solver, and record keeper. Under the role of
counselor and broker an intervention strategy that could be implemented is for the case
manager to meet with the individuals on their caseload and after completing an assessment
create a treatment plan that would help to resolve any barriers that the individual may be facing
that would hinder their ability to attend their medical appointments and strict regimen of
medications, the case manager would then continue to hold regular meetings with their clients
to ensure the individual treatment plan is being adhered to (Wohl, et al. 2011). The problem a
case manager may see while trying to help provide services to people living with HIV/AIDS
under the model of role based manager is that the case manager may be working for an agency
with very limited resources which can then severely restrict the benefit of the program and leave
the case manager feeling frustrated and overwhelmed and the though there may be a wide array
of services that may be needed, the agency can only afford to focus on the cheapest. If the agency
does happen to be well funded then the benefits of role based case management model mean that
the individual will only have the one contact person to reach out to and allows for a better
relationship to develop which makes for a more effective case manager (Woodside, McClam,

Analysis of On the Waterfront Essay
On the Waterfront is a classic, award winning and controversial film. It received eight academy
awards in 1954, including best picture and director. The director, Eliza Kazan, in collaboration
with Budd Schulberg wrote the film s screenplay. Based on actual dockside events in Hoboken,
New Jersey, On the Waterfront is a story of a dock worker who tried to overthrow a corrupt

Since Kazan believed that communism was an evil threat to the American way of life, he tried
to portray his decision to testify as a heroic act of valor. He wanted to show the public that a
person who testifies is brave, not a coward. Throughout the film there are a number of references
to the code of silence, D n D , or Deaf and Dumb. This means that no matter how wretched the
circumstances are, a person never rats. The union thugs make a joke about the boy pushed off a
building because he threatened to talk to the crime commission, thus breaking the sacred code of
D n D: A canary. Maybe he could sing but he couldn t fly.
Kazan has one character, in particular, stress the importance of speaking out in life. Father Barry
believes that the truth will always set a person free. He says; There s one thing we ve got in this
country and that s ways of fightin back. Gettin facts to the public. Testifying for what you know is
right and what you know is wrong. What s rattin to them is telling the truth for you. Can t you see
that? Can t you see that?
This quotation is an example of Kazan crying out to the public for forgiveness. Later in the film,
Kazan tries even harder to gain acceptance, as there is an obvious parallel between his own
testimony and Terry Malloy s.
In the courtroom scene, Terry Malloy turns stoolie and betrays Friendly throughout his

Why Do Not Football Helmets Promote Neck Injuries Essay
The goal of this project is to work towards answering the question of whether or not football
helmets promote neck injuries. In order to gather data, a U of R team made a machine that rapidly
changes speed while translating from side to side to stimulate a rotational acceleration and velocity
about the head and neck due to an angular displacement. The purpose of this machine is to simulate
an unexpected and sudden change in motion of the head in order to analyse the resulting motion.
The data collected was the rotational position of the head, the linear position of the cart, and the
linear position of a point on the body. All measurements were made with and without a helmet. In
order to answer the main question, there had to be a further understanding of how the mechanics of
the head and neck change with the addition of a helmet. To achieve this, MATLAB was used to
compute the resulting velocities and accelerations, the reaction forces at the neck, and the moment
about the base of the neck. From these calculations, it is possible to make observations about how
the addition of a helmet affects the dynamics of the head and neck. The code is structured with a
script of general input data such as the given data and labels for plots. All of the given position data
was corrected to start at position zero for better comparison between the positions with and without
the helmet. The information was then passed into a function that converted all data into the desired
units, computed

Metaphysical Realm Of Garbage
The Metaphysical Realm of Garbage My volunteer experience at Howling Timbers included
cleaning and preparing meals for the animals using expired produce donated from local grocery
stores. My work started with sorting the new shipments of goods into categories and rotating them
with the old, molding fruits and vegetables that would get used in the evening. During meal
preparation, I cut off the fuzzy, moldy, slimy, and decomposing parts of the fruit and vegetables and
put the salvageable portions into foodbins for the horses, pigs, donkeys and sugar gliders, the
scraps into a compost pile. I asked Brenda if larger corporations gave Howling Timbers their
expired produce and learned that the food donations at Howling Timbers come from local grocery

Minor Squabbles
Huber states that creative problem solving is the most effective mode of conflict management
(2014, p. 175). Initially, the nurse manager should allow all parties involved an opportunity to
explain their position. This projects an authentic interest and commitment to fairness on the part of
the manager, as the manager attempts to reframe the conflict into a productive outcome.
Not all conflict needs to be addressed. Small, minor squabbles can sometimes be left to extinguish
on their own, this is using the avoiding technique. However, minor squabbles that draw the
attention and added investment of others may fan the flames of conflict and require an intervention
by the nurse manager. Accommodation is another technique used in conflict management.

The Impact Of Immigration On The United States
In the late 19th century the United States experienced a wave of immigrants looking for work
and/or escaping worsening conditions in their home countries. These immigrants, predominantly
received through Ellis Island on the East Coast, would settle down in larger urbanized cities
such as New York and Chicago. This was partially due to the amount of available jobs and
housing, but also because of the appeal of staying close to other families from their homeland.
By gathering in these communities they were able to keep their traditions alive through things
such as native language and religion. However, since many of the immigrants were low income
households, the communities were largely forced to live in poverty level housing and provided
with almost no social services by the federal government. It was this need for welfare that enabled
political urban machines to rise in power. By providing support such as jobs and services to
impoverished immigrant communities, these organizations thrived off of the loyalty, and therefore
votes, that they received in return. Historical Background Although the amount of people living in
cities had vastly increased since the late 18th century, the representation for cities in state
legislature and congress did not increase to reflect this change in dynamic. By 1870, 44% of New
York City s population was made up of immigrants, while San Francisco s was at 49% (Donovan).
With this increase in population came the need for an increase in social

Duality In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho

Role Of Isolation In Uglies

Everyone has a fear of something in life; whether it s spiders, snakes, public speaking, exams or

separated from other people. Many teenagers today fear isolation because of the experience of
losing a friend, straining familyrelationships, and struggling to fit in. Teenagers often feel lonely
because they do not have the required friendships that a person desires. Teens need friends that

They feel as if they are not cool enough to join a certain group of people. Many teens feel like a
misfit, someone who cannot fit in with the crowd. Why does society make it seem like you have to
be a part of a certain group in order for someone to be accepted? In Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld,
fifteen year old, Tally Youngblood, feels isolated from a group of people because she is an ugly
. She feels that in order to fit in she needs to have the pretty surgery. Tally states, Pretties do look
different. They look like themselves. It s just a lot more subtle, because they re not all freaks
(Westerfeld 82). Tally had thought all her life that the only way to get attention from others is to
become a pretty . It s not her fault she grew up in a world where every sixteen year old was
forced to have the pretty surgery. How could she think that she will look normal, if she looks the
same as everyone around her? Just like this many teens try to fit in with society s social norms .
In the drama play, I Claudia, by Kristen Thomson, it is evident that the main character, Claudia,

everyone that she s wearing hot pants and makeup. I wear bell bottoms and platforms, but not
hot pants. I think that they are too short and my legs would just stick out like that (Thomson 23)
This shows teens that the character Claudia has low self esteem; she is afraid to wear the
clothes that she wishes to wear because of the fear of judgement. Why do teens try so hard to
have a perfect body shape? Teens can feel isolated from a group of people because of the way
they may act, look, or understand things. They feel hurt or sad when excluded from a group of

Massey-Ferguson Case
Massey Ferguson Case
Advanced Corporate Finance
The Company
Massey Ferguson is a multinational producer of farm machinery, industrial machinery and diesel
engines. The company was formed through a merger between Massey Harris and Harry Fergusson
in 1953. They combined their skills to become the West s largest producer of farm tractors and the
world s largest supplier of diesel engines to original equipment manufacturers.
Massey s farm machinery line consists of tractors, several harvesters and other agricultural
equipment. The industrial machinery line consists mostly of several industrial tractors. Diesel
engines were produced in Coventry, England by the Perkins Engines group. Perkins engines were

First, the expansion in the 1970s was financed by debt, much of it short term. This was the reason
for its high (short term) debt value ratio. Although this might have been in line with Massey s
growth strategy, it made Massey sensible for the increase in the interest rates. This increase
resulted in a dramatic rise of cost of Massey s short term debt.
Second, Massey had an enormous amount of debt outstanding with more than 100 banks around the
world which resulted in numerous covenants related to these loans. These covenants hindered
Massey s free access to the capital market. Hence, Massey couldn t attract equity to finance the
company and was dependent on loans. Finally, most of the borrowing from banks was unsecured.
Because of the higher risk of unsecured debt, the loans were more expensive. That is, unsecured
debt leads to higher interest rates. Thus this was also a reason for high costs of debt.
Together with the decline in demand in North America and depressed markets in Europe and the
Third World, these high costs of debt and inaccessible capital market formed the cause of the
financial distress Massey went through.

Solomon Reed Archetypes
Archetypes are twelve different models of people s minds. These archetypes are formed by
experiences we had as we evolve throughout our lives. My archetype I have chosen for Solomon
Reed is the sage. The sage s goal is to use intelligence and analysis to understand the world. His
biggest fear is to be misled. The three charactertraits Solomon Reed has are that he is persistent,
prominent and creative. Solomon is persistent. To be persistent is to constantly pursue a course of
action. Solomon s friends have been trying to get him outside for a long time, but frankly, he s
terrified. One night, despite what he told himself, he manages to gather the courage to walk outside
of his house. The outside to Solomon is, as the book states, a void... Show more content on

This noteworthy significance he has is the fact that he refuses to step out of his house. He even
provides his logic for it. He says, I have food, I have water and most important it never gets out of
control. By staying in house he can manage his life without fear and that also makes him unique
and unusual or...noteworthy. Finally, Solomon is creative, which means he uses his
imagination to solve problems. A show that Solomon watches is Star Trek. In this show there is
a special room called a Holodeck. Solomon is so infatuated by this room, that he has his father
model the garage into a replica of the Holodeck. Even though it looked cool, this was not the
only significance of it to Solomon. It also, became a comfortable place for Solomon to go when
he had a panic attack. This shows his creativity because he found a functional and fun way to help
him cope with his panic attacks. Solomon is persistent, noteworthy and creative. He is persistent
because he decided to go outside despite is unwillingness to do so. He is noteworthy because
unlike most kids, he has unusual behaviors that result in him staying inside often. And finally, he is
creative, because he used his imagination to help him deal with his health problems in a unique
way. Because of these three character traits I believe that Solomon is a Sage

Spanking Persuasive Speech
Growing up as an abused child, the word spanking represents fear in my mind. My mother beat
my sister and I with thick wooden paddles that would leave huge welt marks and splinters in our
skin. My mother considered this spanking. She was also known to slap us in the face with these
paddles. My sister and I, not wanting to be hit by these things anymore, destroyed them. This did
not stop my mother, she continued to hit us with belts or whatever object she could find. I
disclose this personal information not for one to feel sorry for me, but for one to understand that I
am completely against hitting a child with an object other than your hand. For no reason should an
object ever be used to discipline a child. If you have tried all other forms of discipline; redirecting,

I do think that children from the age of a year and a half up till preadolescents should get spanked
in certain circumstances. A spankingis often required when a small child is testing boundaries and
pushing every button they can push. A child who is deliberately hurting an animal or another
person could use a spanking. A preadolescent who is mouthy and disobedient may also deserve to
be spanked. I feel its okay to slap a small child on their hands to tell them no, but not an older
child. I don t think spanking a child should ever leave marks on their body. A parent should only
use spanking as a discipline and not do it when they are angry. When a parent is angry they are
more aggressive and leave marks. A child should never fear their parents, they should understand
that they are being spanked as a form of discipline and guidance. After a spanking a child should
always know their parents love them and are not hurting them they are directing them to better

Visa Porter s Five Forces
1.The research I did on the company Visa was the historical background of the company. I also
looked into the industry and how Visa deals with outside forces. I used Porters Five Forces to
look at the industry. I examined how the industry has high rivalry, along with a lot of substitutes to
the services offered by major providers. It s hard to enter the credit cardindustry due to the high
capital requirements. When going international you need to understand other countries have
different styles of payments already put in place. Banks, Credit Unions, and Retail stores play a
role when deciding which cards to use.
2.The part I found most interesting is that Visa has a huge market share around the world. I would

Mackenzie King Leadership
Unforgettable actions that will always be remembered in honour of Mackenzie King, which
made him such a great leader. In my opinion William Lyon Mackenzie King showed that he was
an effective leader through his duty of being Canada s 10th Prime Minister for 29 years. King
made huge impacts on many lives and both world wars in being Canadas best Prime Minister.
Mackenzie King did many effective actions throughout his years of being Prime Minister, however
three events stood out the most. King showed that he was an effective leader because he created
crown corporations, had a dream to start the British Commonwealth Air Training Program and
created Unemployment Insurance for people who needed it. Not only did he serve the longest time
as Canada s Prime Minister but he successfully affected many lives.
Firstly, Mackenzie King showed great leadership towards the people because of this dream of
starting the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP). Mackenzie King was
determined in 1939 to have a dream which he believed was a sign of the power of the airplane in
determining ultimate victory . All over the country, Canadians decided to mobilized to take part
in this event. In order to take on this event an army of experts would have to be assembled, a
development in airfields and equipment, including airplanes. Between the years 1940 1945
there was 151 schools established and thousands civilians that were members of the Royal
Canadian Air Force, mainly the Women s division trained and worked for BCATP facilities. By
the end of the Second World War, the BCATP had produced 131,553 aircrew, including pilots,
wireless operators, air gunners, and navigators for the Air Forces of Great Britain, Australia, New
Zealand and Canada. This all Started when Canada s government realized it was an opportunity
for them to make a significant commitment to the Allied war efforts. The final agreement was
made on December 17, 1939 and all countries that were involved in this dream signed the papers,
which listed the percentages of trainees they need to send, the cost they would need to pay,
schedule of training times. This all came to a close in March on the 31st 1945. King was so
confident in this dream he had envisioned that

The Stranger Symbolism
The stranger is a movie based on crime and it is about a investigator Wilson from war crimes
commission travelling to Harper, Connecticut to find a Nazi named, Franz Kindler. The movie
begin with many men including a man named Wilson discussing about whether to set free a
prisoner named Meinike. Wilson suggest other member of Allied War Commission to let
Meinike escape so that they could track down Franz Kindler, who was a high level architect of
holocaust. Wilson managed to follow Meinike to Harper, Connecticut but he got knocked
unconscious by him. Meinike managed to meet Franz Kindler who was disguising himself as
Professor Charles Rankin, a respected instructor at local college. When Meinike told Kindler
about how he was set free from prison, Kindler murdered and buried him in the woods. There are
many visual elements used in this movie. The visual elements that I analyzed while watching
this movie are color intensity and camera angles. This movie used pathos as a persuasive appeal.
The first visual elements I analyzed was color intensity. This movie was made in black and white.
In this movie, color black and white was used in such a way where we can clearly see the facial...

While leaving a ship, Meinike was constantly repeating I am travelling for health. As if he was

if he was afraid of being revealed. When Meinike found Franz near the school, he call him by his

Timeless Love In Pride And Prejudice By Jane Austen
Does money mean the same as love? In modern days it is frowned upon to only look at money,
but back in 18th century Britain it was the only step for sanctuary and love. Mr. Darcy and
Elizabeth Bennett, characters from Jane Austen s timeless love novel Pride and Prejudice, are
examples of breaking the normal cycle for that time period. In order to see any connections
between these two, we must first break it down by class, their personalities, and their actual
feelings toward one another. Elizabeth is judgmental toward the class more than her feelings,
because Elizabeth is of very low class, and Mr. Darcy is of high class, even though he is obviously
in love with Elizabeth. As you read throughout the timeless love story, you begin to notice... Show

Darcy or any man her father offered her hand to. The spark for Elizabeth s heart was ignited as
soon as the housekeeper explained her fondness of him while knowing they were not influenced
by judgement. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth both had so many complications with arranged
marriages to different people who had no interest in love or happiness, they only cared for
money and status. Elizabeth embedded herself in her sister s happiness to only ignore her own
and judge her own actions, from her sisters. Love was grown over time and was tested multiple
times by Mr. Darcy s aunt who insisted he married for money and Mr. Bennett s plea to wed Mr.
Collins for money until her sister married him due to false love and hoping for a secure life. This
is a quote of Jane Austen s powerful creation of true love through two complete opposites, But no
sooner had he made it clear to himself and his friends that she hardly had a good feature in her
face, than he began to find it was rendered uncommonly intelligent by the beautiful expression of
her dark eyes. To this discovery succeeded some others equally mortifying. Though he had
detected with a critical eye more than one failure of perfect symmetry in her form, he was forced
to acknowledge her figure to be light and pleasing; and in spite of his asserting that her manners
were not those of the fashionable world, he was caught by their easy

Coming Of Age Theme
Loneliness expresses the pain of being alone and solitude expresses the glory of being alone
(Paul Tillich). Coming of age books have characters that are trying to find themselves. Books
that are in the coming of age genre have characters that deal with loneliness at some point. The
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, and Dead Poet s Society
directed by Peter Weir all share a common theme of loneliness. Todd and Neil are the two
characters that were the most lonely in Dead Poet s Society. Mr. Keating has Todd go to the
front of the class, he has him say a poem and Todd speaks a poem about being alone and he really
gets into it. Todd is a very passionate person, and he just has not found people to express... Show

Holden gets kicked out of school and decides to leave early and this is what he thought, I just
didn t want to hang around any more. It made me too sad and lonesome (Knowles 51). Holden
says that the school made him feel sad and isolated and that shows how he wants to change that
fact. Holden seems to need just people s presence more than they do, After Old Sunny was
gone... Boy, I felt miserable. I felt so depressed, you can not imagine. What I did, I started
talking sort of out loud, to Allie (Salinger 98). Holden is a lone wolf. He does not rely on anyone
for anything. He admits that he is depressed and talks to himself which implies that he also
realises that he is a loner. Another example showing Holden s loneliness is when he tells Sally,
We ll stay in these cabins camps and stuff like that until the dough runs out... I could get a job
somewhere and we could live somewhere with a brook and all and, later on, we could get
married or something (Salinger 132). Holden is so desperate for someone in his life that he even
tells Old Sally that he would marry her and live with her. Holden and Gene, from A Separate Peace,
share nothing in common because Gene purposefully distances himself while Holden does it

Emancipation Proclamation Dbq Essay
On the 1st of January 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued the emancipation Proclamation. It declared
that in certain named rebellious areas and states slaves were forever free The purpose of the
proclamation was on its face military necessity. It authorised the freed slaves to enlist in the military
in attempt to bolster the unions army and navy. It was a significant political and military turning
point in the civil war, and ultimately the abolition movement. In source A, Douglas T Miller
describes the Emancipation Proclamationas ineffective in the liberation of slaves within America,
stating it actually free few people . He concedes however that it changed the purpose and

The Emancipation proclamation acted as the turning point for the civil rights, anti slavery
movement within America, by liberating any slave within the confederate or rebelling states and
paving the way for future civil right policies. The Emancipation proclamation, declared under
American law that slaves, in rebelling states, were freemen. As seen in source A, although the
slaves were liberated, the effect of this was limited by the lack of enforcement in this policy, with
slaves unable to immediately liberate themselves. As confederate states were in rebellion, it proved
unlikely for them to follow the rules of the federal government, rather it required union forces for
liberation. It s because of this that some historians argue against the effect of the emancipation
proclamation. This meant for the elongated and inefficient process of emancipation. Nonetheless,
when it took effect it, it legally freed approximately 3.1 million southern slaves , henceforth
proving its effect. Secondly the Emancipation acted as an irreversible step in the emancipation
process and the liberation of all slavery. It paved the way for future, progressive, policy to be
established in order to further the civil rights movement . The effect of the Proclamation was fully
solidified through

Technical Limitations Of The Zeitgeist
Zeitgeist Zeitgeist is a German word that was first used in 1848. The literal translation thereof is
the spirit of the time. The Zeitgeist is the essence of an era, and is more than simply slapping a
few neon colours onto a design and saying that it captures the Zeitgeist of the 1980s. Zeitgeist
consists of the emotions, attitudes and morals that are at the heart of every person in a time
period. It is the main thought processes and beliefs that create and direct the actions and styles
of an era. Zeitgeist can be represented in the literature, philosophy and the designs of that time.
Zeitgeist can be crucial to designers as it can allow them to connect directly with the emotions
and values of their customers if they completely understand the Zeitgeist of the modern era. This
understanding also gives designers the opportunity to step away from the Zeitgeist and leave a
big impression on the consumer market. Zeitgeist is the product of the circumstances and
technical limitations of an era, as these can drastically influence the general outlook of the
people within a time period. For example, as explained by the Merriam Webster online
dictionary, the Zeitgeist of Victorian England was the belief in pure industrial progress, while the
Zeitgeist of 1980s United States was the belief in money and one s ability to spend it. Alexander
McQueen was a fashion designer born in London in 1960. Once he graduated with a Master of Arts
in 1992, he founded his own, self titled music

History Of The Iranian Hostage Crisis
There are many important events that have occurred in this world. To the United States, Iran was
important. This is because Iran gave oil to the industrial West. In this case, the United States wanted
to keep Iran independent and stable. Though, the relations between the two countries soon became
broken. One major event was between the United States of America and Iran, which was the Iranian
Hostage Crisis.
On President Jimmy Carter s third year as president, the shah of Iran was in deep trouble. Iran had
brutal and unpopular policies that many people did not agree with. Revolution broke out in the
January of 1979, because many Iranians didn t agree with the shah s ruling. The shah had no

Prostate Cancer Synthesis
Abstract: Prostate cancer is the leading mortality cancer amongst males. This cancer is due to the
signaling increase of androgen and androgen receptors, which is a gene that associates with the risk
of prostate cancer. Over expression of androgen receptors occurs in androgen independent cancer.
Prostate tumors advance to androgen independent state where they progress in the absence of
circulating testosterone. Typically, treatments for prostatecancerare surgery and radiation. Most

by blocking androgen signaling with anti androgen bicalutanmide (Casodex) or flutamide or by

Although PA is most abundant, EA has been shown in other studies to exhibit anticarcinogenic
properties such as induction of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis as well as the inhabitation of
tumor formation and growth particularly in animals. Studies show that consumption of
phytochemical rich diet reduces the risk of prostate cancer. With that being said, in this study
there were several experiments done to show the correlation of how pomegranate in the form of
POMx, PJ, PA and EA will help reduce the risk of getting prostate cancer by reducing the
signaling of AR. Although studies have yet to find the mechanism of gene down regulation there
have been several studies that show that the LNaCP AR cell line is overexpressed which leads
to prostate cancer. In this study the cells lines LNCaP and LNcAP AR cell lines are closely
examined. The main aim of this study is to show how pomegranate and its polyphenols can reduce
the androgen receptors that are overexpressed to decrease the risk of prostate cancer and the tumor
size of prostate cancer.

Keating Redfern Speech
Through manipulating the power of rhetorical devices in anthology of speeches, orators accentuate
the significance of language and learning as a platform for prompting an abiding social change.
Hence, an effective speech highlights composer s contextual issues and ideas that resonates within
their immediate audience, envisaging a social equity. Lessing s On Not Winning the Nobel Prize,
delivered at the Nobel Lecture in 2007, explores the power of language to fuel radical social reform
in Zimbabwe, through the representation of educational inequality. Similarly, Keating s Redfern

Criticising the educational gap that subsists within the polarised nations, Lessing exposes language
and literature as a fuel to empower individuals to maintain their hope for a prosperous future.
Achieved through her effective use of personal anecdote in some pupils walk many miles every
morning, rain or shine and across rivers , Lessing highlights the metaphorical journey that reflects
the Zimbabwean students struggle and their determination for knowledge. Through this notion, she
reveals the significance of language and learning as a catalyst that inspires individuals to sustain
through their hardships, engaging her intended audience to appreciate the value of literature as a
platform for social reform. Furthermore, Lessing employs inclusive language to heighten the
significance of language to engender social progress, communicating that it is our stories that will
recreate us, when we are torn...even destroyed...that is our phoenix . She skilfully utilises the
symbolism of the phoenix which symbolises immortality, to emphasis literature as an enduring
value that still resonates within our contemporary world. Through this, she constructs a sense of
hope that projects to an Egalitarian society comprised of social inclusiveness and educational

  • 2. The Bell Jar Summary Sylvia Plath subjects the main character of The Bell Jar, Esther Greenwood, to a wide array of events in the ninth chapter of the novel. Esther experiences sadness, depression, relationship violence, and a fight for purity in the timeframe of a single day. This odd plot combination seems from a distance like a jumbled series of unfortunate events. However, each occurrence, along with a common emotional background of genuine sadness, proves that Esther has begun to distance herself from her reality and her future by matters that only she can control. The plot of the ninth chapter focuses on Esther Greenwood s final day in New York City. She begins by walking to her final photo shoot with another female in the internship program, Hilda. They discuss their feelings of the Rosenberg execution, which is set to occur that night. At the photo shoot, Esther is the final woman to have her picture taken. She poses with a paper rose, and bursts out in tears before the photographer and her boss, Jay Cee. Later that evening, Esther begins to pack for home,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Marco touches her for the first time, he leaves a thumbprint purpled into view and four, faint matching prints on her arm. Under these circumstances, most women would realize abuse and cease to see the man accountable any longer. However, Esther still goes to the country club with a woman hater , hoping that the city s magnificence might rub off on me [Esther] at last. This indicates that Esther is desperate to connect a purpose to her present situation. However, a date night with an abusive man falls short of this desire, and Esther is ultimately left with nothing for her time in New York City. Without any purpose derived from a once in a lifetime magazine internship, Esther s lightly stated future goals of becoming a poet or a publisher are crushed when she realizes that these careers involve a lifestyle that is foreign to ... • 3. Baldridge Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence Strayer University Dr. Finn BUS430 The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) now known as the Baldrige National Quality Program has been one of the most powerful catalysts for improving organizational performance in the United States (The Collier and Evans (2011) textbook). Strategic planning is applicable for any type of business entity or organization. However, people tend to think that it is only meant for large businesses. Strategic planning matches the strengths of an organization to open opportunities. In order to be effective, an organization needs to collect, screen, and analyze information about its environment. The organization also needs to have a clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... UC Berkeley and UC Bolder both defined their IT strategic plans and objectives for future success. Charles McNamara (n.d.), a leading strategic planning advisor, stated that goals should be specific, measurable, acceptable to all those working toward achievement; goals, realistic, timely, extending the capabilities of those working to achieve the goals and which at the same time rewarding to them. Both universities cloned the Baldrige criteria for strategic planning though a clear understanding of their goals and needs. Baldridge criteria s to ensure that financial, human and other resources are available to support action plans through resource allocations were define however, UC Berkeley were not all defined as compared to US Boulder. A action plan has to take place even with goals and objectives clearly defined by both universities. According to McNamara (n.d.), the lay out for action planning is accomplished with strategic goals. These action plans include specifying objectives, or specified results, with each strategic goal. Strategic goals lead to accomplishing a set of objectives which is a goal on a smaller scale. Generally, an objective is associated with a tactic. So implementing a strategy typically involves implementing a set of tactics, which is still a strategy, however on a smaller scale. Action plans includes: specifying responsibilities and timelines with each objective, or what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Racism In Neighbors Here are the worst neighbors you d never want to have! 6 Noose hanging A suburban Detroit business owner and his wife who hung Confederate flags and nooses on their property back in 2015 want you to know that anyone who sees their actions as racist is quote stupid. Hmmmm.......confederate flag, not racist, okay, I can buy that one. A single noose just by itself, not racist? Okay, you re really gonna have to have a good story here. But confederate flag and a noose TOGETHER?! This story better be a once in a lifetime story! Neighbors must loooove these two! Robert Tomanovich, owner of Robert s Discount Tree Service in Livonia, Michigan, told reporters from the Daily News that he quote, wasn t racist . He said, quote, I know black guys, I have black friends. We re all laughing at this stupidity. Do you know how many white guys were hung back in the day? This isn t racist. But all of a sudden it s out of control. I meannnn dude. I m not saying you re racist, but you sure as h*ll do act... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reporters said that in a phone interview, he initially had said he put up the flags because he was from the South, but then said he was from the Detroit area, then said again he came from the South and hung up the phone when asked to specify where. Tomanovich also said he has at least one black employee. After much backlash, Tomanovich finally took down the nooses and flags, but offered no apologies to anyone offended. This I agree with, because he s allowed to do what he wants. But clearly, he couldn t handle the backlash so I still say this dude is a complete idiot. The funniest part to me is the fact that he still wants people to know that he wasn t racist. It d probably help a lot if he quit hanging up confederate flags and nooses outside his house and business, you know, the same thing that racists actually do? Sigh. People like this really do ... • 5. Business Owners Vs Yelp Case Study BUSINESS OWNERS Vs. YELP! INC INTRODUCTION: Today, every individual can share their opinions with the entire world. The defendant in this case, Yelp! Inc. Is a website which provides an online forum on which its users express opinions about business. The plaintiffs, the small business owners who asserted that Yelp exactioned or attempted to exaction advertising payments from them by manipulating user reviews and posting negative reviews of their businesses. The business owners filed a class action lawsuit against Yelp for violations of California s Unfair Competition Law ( UCL ). The case affirmed the district court s dismissal of an action by small business owners asserting before proof that Yelp! Inc. Exacted or attempted to exaction advertising... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start, we note that there is no allegation that Yelp directly threatened economic harm if the business owners refused to purchase advertising packages from Yelp. While the lack of such express threats does not alone dispose of the extortion claims, see United States v. Marsh, 26 F.3d 1496, 1501 (9th Cir. 1994), it does make the business owners case considerably more difficult. Absent explicit threats of economic harm, the business owners must allege sufficient facts to support the inference, In re Century Aluminum Co. Sec. Litig., 729 F.3d 1104, 1107 (9th Cir. 2013), that Yelp inten[ded] . . . to induce payment through the use of threats or the exploitation of [economic] fears, United States v. Greger, 716 F.2d 1275, 1278 (9th Cir. 1983). Applying this standard, we conclude that the business owners have not alleged sufficient facts to support their claim that Yelp authored negative user reviews of the businesses in question. For these reasons and the reasons explained in Part II.B of this opinion, we conclude that none of the business owners have stated a claim of unlawful conduct on the basis of extortion. We therefore affirm the dismissal of the separate claims of civil extortion and attempted civil extortion, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay about Analysis on Movie Water CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON MOVIE WATER by Nadzirah Nur In my opinion, Deepa Mehta is a courageous and bold director to produce a movie Water which is intended to affront the tradition and living style of Indians back then. She displays how every character brings up almost perfectly similar kind of stance which is because of the doctrine and beliefs that have been set in their minds for a long period of time. The practice inherited from one generation to another generation which later becomes the tradition of Indian community. I could see how every widow refuses and rebuffs changes; which they are forbidden to marry again as a result of believing in they themselves bring unluckiness or bad luck to others. In fact, other women either married ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Changes can be made at any time as long as it is for the sake of our happiness. However, how can Indian women in this movie pursuit their happiness when they think they are deemed to suffer after their husbands death as a symbol of devotion to husband? Frederick and Mary (2012) documented on their blogs regarding Deepa s response upon the significance of water in this movie. Deepa said, Water can flow or water can be stagnant. I set the film in the 1930s but the people in the film live their lives as it was prescribed by a religious text more than 2000 years old. Even today, people follow these texts, which is one reason why there continue to be millions of widows. To me, that is a kind of stagnant water. I think traditions should not be that rigid. They should flow like replenishing kind of water. I personally agree that traditions should not be rigid. It can be changed as long as we never forsake our solid ground, forgetting of who we are and where we are from. We are born to seek and to create a better life, guided by religions to ensure that we do not go astray. If accepting changes are simply called defiance, what should women oppression be called? I am clueless. On the other hand, I understand that water is the element of purity in this movie. It is shown that all Indians come to the bank of Ganges River to clean their bodies from sins or bad luck in particular. Similarly, in Islam, Muslims need to take wudhu ... • 8. Communication And Self-Efficacy In his research Atilgan Erozkan examined how communication skills and interpersonal problem solving skills effect adolescent s social self efficacy, the belief in one s own abilities. Before the study begins, Erozkan defines how communication, interpersonal relationships, and self efficacy relate. Communicationis a crucial element in forming long lasting interpersonal relationships, which is an important aspect in adolescents developing positive self efficacy (Erozkan, 2013). Adolescents begin to acquire life long interpersonal relationships in high school. The quality of these relationships is highly dependent on the quality of communication that occurs between individuals (Erozkan, 2013). The relationships that adolescents create have a direct impact on their self efficacy when creating new interpersonal relationships and communicating (Erozkan, 2013). Before Erozkan discusses interpersonal problem solving, the topic of interpersonal competency is outlined. This is because interpersonal competency, the development of communication skills, relies significantly on being able to effectively engage and understand interactions (Erozkan, 2013). If competent communication skills are not further developed than messages being sent during communication can become misunderstood (Erozkan, 2013). Since interpersonal relationships allow people to influence each other any problems that arise can have a profound impact on an individual (Erozkan, 2013). Therefore, Erozkan ... • 9. Crisis Care Case Study Crisis Care There can be a misunderstanding on what the role of a pastor should be. The congregation member that jokes that a pastor works only one day of the week is making light of the true role of a pastor. When tragedy hits the families of the church, it is the pastor that is called up to comfort and bring biblical wisdom into a tragic and unfortunate situation. Again, I Peter 5 lays out the ministry of a pastor is to shepherd his flock. If a pastor is leading his congregation like a shepherd, then it is not uncommon for sheep to desire for this caregiver to be near them in a time of tragedy. They are looking for a spiritual mentor, but not all pastors are strong showing compassion. David Deuel says that, Upon leaving seminary, many a young man discovers that his love for the Chief Shepherd does not extend to a love for God s sheep. These are great literary devises which are used to draw focus to the desired emphasis of a story. For example, in The Chronicles of Narnia, specifically The Silver Chair and The Last Battle, Jill and Eustace are foils for each other. Their personalities balance each other out which allows them to highlight each other s strengths and weaknesses. However, they aren t just foils for each other, though. He serves as a guide and a protector for the children. There are multiple occasions in which Puddleglum saves the children from almost certain death. The first instance that comes to mind is also in the giant city of Harfang. Had it not been for Puddleglum, the children would have likely gone into completely panic, been caught, and certainly been eaten. Instead, Puddleglum does a wonderful job of keeping the children calm for as long as possible and giving them the perfect time to make a break for it and escape. Once the company made was in Underland and the Queen returned to find them there, she attacked them at once and tried to put all of them under a spell. To give you better insight on this question I will tell you how i would define success using John Wooden s Pyramid of Success , identify the three most important traits from the pyramid of success, to me, explain how they create success, and why i thought they were the most important. Next I will use examples from the movie Hoosiers, tell you what success looks like for the people involved, the emotions they had after their success, and how the success impacted their lives. Lastly I will define success in my own eyes and how I have been successful in my life. I would define success as achieving a goal that you set out for. The three most important things on John Wooden s Pyramid of Success are Confidence, Condition and Fight. These create success in many ways. If you have confidence to win you will always win or come very close. If your team is in condition you will be able to outwork the other team and be success. And if you willing to fight to win then you will be successful in every accept of life. Under the role of counselor and broker an intervention strategy that could be implemented is for the case manager to meet with the individuals on their caseload and after completing an assessment create a treatment plan that would help to resolve any barriers that the individual may be facing that would hinder their ability to attend their medical appointments and strict regimen of medications, the case manager would then continue to hold regular meetings with their clients to ensure the individual treatment plan is being adhered to (Wohl, et al. 2011). • 29. Why Do Not Football Helmets Promote Neck Injuries Essay The goal of this project is to work towards answering the question of whether or not football helmets promote neck injuries. In order to gather data, a U of R team made a machine that rapidly changes speed while translating from side to side to stimulate a rotational acceleration and velocity about the head and neck due to an angular displacement. The purpose of this machine is to simulate an unexpected and sudden change in motion of the head in order to analyse the resulting motion. The data collected was the rotational position of the head, the linear position of the cart, and the linear position of a point on the body. All measurements were made with and without a helmet. In order to answer the main question, there had to be a further understanding of how the mechanics of the head and neck change with the addition of a helmet. To achieve this, MATLAB was used to compute the resulting velocities and accelerations, the reaction forces at the neck, and the moment about the base of the neck. From these calculations, it is possible to make observations about how the addition of a helmet affects the dynamics of the head and neck. • 30. Metaphysical Realm Of Garbage The Metaphysical Realm of Garbage My volunteer experience at Howling Timbers included cleaning and preparing meals for the animals using expired produce donated from local grocery stores. My work started with sorting the new shipments of goods into categories and rotating them with the old, molding fruits and vegetables that would get used in the evening. During meal preparation, I cut off the fuzzy, moldy, slimy, and decomposing parts of the fruit and vegetables and put the salvageable portions into foodbins for the horses, pigs, donkeys and sugar gliders, the scraps into a compost pile. I asked Brenda if larger corporations gave Howling Timbers their expired produce and learned that the food donations at Howling Timbers come from local grocery stores. Brenda explains to the managers at these larger grocers that the food they receive is only for animal consumption. Still, they deny her the food and dispose of their expired goods in the dumpster out of sight, out of mind. Slavoj Zizek says in Examined Life that Part of our daily perception of reality is that this [shit/garbage] disappears from our world. When you go to the toilet, shit disappears. You flush it. Of course, rationally you know it s there in canalization and so on, but at a certain level of your most elementary experience, it disappears from your world (Zizek, 2008). Initially, the nurse manager should allow all parties involved an opportunity to explain their position. This projects an authentic interest and commitment to fairness on the part of the manager, as the manager attempts to reframe the conflict into a productive outcome. Not all conflict needs to be addressed. Small, minor squabbles can sometimes be left to extinguish on their own, this is using the avoiding technique. However, minor squabbles that draw the attention and added investment of others may fan the flames of conflict and require an intervention by the nurse manager. Economic forecasts for future growth anticipate that Italy will continue to recover, albeit very slowly, and at a rate that is less than that of growth expected in the rest of the EU (U.S. Department of State, 2011). One must add, at this point, the most recent developments in the European debt crisis, particularly affecting Italy, are creating additional uncertainty for these assumptions. • 34. The Impact Of Immigration On The United States In the late 19th century the United States experienced a wave of immigrants looking for work and/or escaping worsening conditions in their home countries. These immigrants, predominantly received through Ellis Island on the East Coast, would settle down in larger urbanized cities such as New York and Chicago. This was partially due to the amount of available jobs and housing, but also because of the appeal of staying close to other families from their homeland. By gathering in these communities they were able to keep their traditions alive through things such as native language and religion. However, since many of the immigrants were low income households, the communities were largely forced to live in poverty level housing and provided with almost no social services by the federal government. It was this need for welfare that enabled political urban machines to rise in power. By providing support such as jobs and services to impoverished immigrant communities, these organizations thrived off of the loyalty, and therefore votes, that they received in return. Historical Background Although the amount of people living in cities had vastly increased since the late 18th century, the representation for cities in state legislature and congress did not increase to reflect this change in dynamic. By 1870, 44% of New York City s population was made up of immigrants, while San Francisco s was at 49% (Donovan). With this increase in population came the need for an increase in social ... First, the expansion in the 1970s was financed by debt, much of it short term. This was the reason for its high (short term) debt value ratio. Although this might have been in line with Massey s growth strategy, it made Massey sensible for the increase in the interest rates. This increase resulted in a dramatic rise of cost of Massey s short term debt. Second, Massey had an enormous amount of debt outstanding with more than 100 banks around the world which resulted in numerous covenants related to these loans. These covenants hindered Massey s free access to the capital market. Hence, Massey couldn t attract equity to finance the company and was dependent on loans. Finally, most of the borrowing from banks was unsecured. Because of the higher risk of unsecured debt, the loans were more expensive. That is, unsecured debt leads to higher interest rates. My archetype I have chosen for Solomon Reed is the sage. The sage s goal is to use intelligence and analysis to understand the world. His biggest fear is to be misled. The three charactertraits Solomon Reed has are that he is persistent, prominent and creative. Solomon is persistent. To be persistent is to constantly pursue a course of action. Finally, Solomon is creative, which means he uses his imagination to solve problems. A show that Solomon watches is Star Trek. In this show there is a special room called a Holodeck. Solomon is so infatuated by this room, that he has his father model the garage into a replica of the Holodeck. Even though it looked cool, this was not the only significance of it to Solomon. It also, became a comfortable place for Solomon to go when he had a panic attack. This shows his creativity because he found a functional and fun way to help him cope with his panic attacks. In order to see any connections between these two, we must first break it down by class, their personalities, and their actual feelings toward one another. The Emancipation proclamation, declared under American law that slaves, in rebelling states, were freemen. As seen in source A, although the slaves were liberated, the effect of this was limited by the lack of enforcement in this policy, with slaves unable to immediately liberate themselves. As confederate states were in rebellion, it proved unlikely for them to follow the rules of the federal government, rather it required union forces for liberation. It s because of this that some historians argue against the effect of the emancipation proclamation. This meant for the elongated and inefficient process of emancipation. Nonetheless, when it took effect it, it legally freed approximately 3.1 million southern slaves , henceforth proving its effect. • 48. Technical Limitations Of The Zeitgeist Zeitgeist Zeitgeist is a German word that was first used in 1848. The literal translation thereof is the spirit of the time. The Zeitgeist is the essence of an era, and is more than simply slapping a few neon colours onto a design and saying that it captures the Zeitgeist of the 1980s. Zeitgeist consists of the emotions, attitudes and morals that are at the heart of every person in a time period. It is the main thought processes and beliefs that create and direct the actions and styles of an era. Zeitgeist can be represented in the literature, philosophy and the designs of that time. Zeitgeist can be crucial to designers as it can allow them to connect directly with the emotions and values of their customers if they completely understand the Zeitgeist of the modern era. This understanding also gives designers the opportunity to step away from the Zeitgeist and leave a big impression on the consumer market. Zeitgeist is the product of the circumstances and technical limitations of an era, as these can drastically influence the general outlook of the people within a time period. For example, as explained by the Merriam Webster online dictionary, the Zeitgeist of Victorian England was the belief in pure industrial progress, while the Zeitgeist of 1980s United States was the belief in money and one s ability to spend it. This cancer is due to the signaling increase of androgen and androgen receptors, which is a gene that associates with the risk of prostate cancer. Over expression of androgen receptors occurs in androgen independent cancer. Prostate tumors advance to androgen independent state where they progress in the absence of circulating testosterone. Typically, treatments for prostatecancerare surgery and radiation. Most effective treatments in the early stage of prostate cancerincludes suppression of AR function either by blocking androgen signaling with anti androgen bicalutanmide (Casodex) or flutamide or by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to the potent androgen... Although PA is most abundant, EA has been shown in other studies to exhibit anticarcinogenic properties such as induction of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis as well as the inhabitation of tumor formation and growth particularly in animals. Studies show that consumption of phytochemical rich diet reduces the risk of prostate cancer. With that being said, in this study there were several experiments done to show the correlation of how pomegranate in the form of POMx, PJ, PA and EA will help reduce the risk of getting prostate cancer by reducing the signaling of AR. Although studies have yet to find the mechanism of gene down regulation there have been several studies that show that the LNaCP AR cell line is overexpressed which leads to prostate cancer. In this study the cells lines LNCaP and LNcAP AR cell lines are closely examined. The main aim of this study is to show how pomegranate and its polyphenols can reduce the androgen receptors that are overexpressed to decrease the risk of prostate cancer and the tumor size of prostate cancer. Methods: 1.POMx: standardized extract of pomegranate fruit contains monomeric and oligomeric ellagitannins as PA (37 40%) and 3.4% free EA but no anthocyanins as determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) 2.PJ: Whole pomegranate juice in concentrated powder form contains 1 mg/ml punicalagin, 0.97 mg/ml EA and anthocyanins 3.PA: Purified from fruit husk and contains monomeric and oligomeric analyzed by HPLC and liquid chromatography electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (LC ...
