DEFINITIONS
Formal learning – structured learning opportunities towards a degree diploma
Informal learning – structured or semi-structured learning opportunities that
may lead a certificate
Non-formal learning – unstructured learning opportunities for individuals who
wish to improve their skills
DEFINITIONS
Open Education Resources – any type of educational
materials that are in the public domain or introduced with
an open license*
Open Access – content (including metadata) is
provided free of charge and can easily be
repurposed
Free Access – content is provided free of charge
but cannot be modified
Open Licensed – liberally licensed for re-use,
favourable free from restrictions to modify, combine
and repurpose
Open Software – produced with open source
software

DEFINITIONS Formal learning – structured learning opportunities towards a degree diploma Informal learning – structured or semi-structured learning opportunities that may lead a certificate Non-formal learning – unstructured learning opportunities for individuals who wish to improve their skills

DEFINITIONS Open Education Resources – any type of educational materials that are in the public domain or introduced with an open license* Open Access – content (including metadata) is provided free of charge and can easily be repurposed Free Access – content is provided free of charge but cannot be modified Open Licensed – liberally licensed for re-use, favourable free from restrictions to modify, combine and repurpose Open Software – produced with open source software *UNESCO, 2015
  • 4. • Foster awareness and use of OER. • Facilitate enabling environments for use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). • Reinforce the development of strategies and policies on OER. • Promote the understanding and use of open licensing frameworks. • Support capacity building for the sustainable development of quality learning materials. • Foster strategic alliances for OER. • Encourage the development and adaptation of OER in a variety of languages and cultural contexts. • Encourage research on OER. • Facilitate finding, retrieving and sharing of OER. • Encourage the open licensing of educational materials produced with public funds.
