This lesson plan is for a biology class about biofertilizers and chemical fertilizers. It provides details about the teacher, school, topic, and objectives. The content will analyze new terms, facts, and concepts related to different types of fertilizers. Students will learn about how biofertilizers use microorganisms to enrich soil nutrients without pollution, while chemical fertilizers can deplete soil fertility and cause environmental harm if overused. The lesson will involve group activities and discussions to help students understand the benefits of biofertilizers for sustainable agriculture.

CONTENT ANALYSIS
NEW TERMS: Bio fertilizers, Chemical fertilizers, Rhizobium, Azolla, Azatobacter
FACTS
Chemical fertilizers is a chemical substances applied to soil or directly into plants to
provide nutrients optimal for their growth and development .
Biofertilizers is a substance which contain microorganism which when applied to the
plant, promote growth by increasing the supply or availability of primary nutrient to the
host plant .
3. Manu ring increases the fertility of the soil , fertilizers are made of microbes
Chemical fertilizers cause increase in the rate of pollution
Biofertilizers do not cause environmental pollution
Microbial fertilizers are also included in Bioferilizers
Nitrates dissolving microbes include Azatobacter ,Azospirillum,Rhizobium and Azolla
Pseudomonas putida and Bacillus polymixa are examples of phosphate dissolving
microorganism
CONCEPT
MAJOR CONCEPT
Chemical fertilizers is a chemical substances applied to soil or directly into plants to
provide nutrients optimal for their growth and development .the indiscriminate use of
chemical fertilizer cause destruction microorganism.
4. Bio fertilizers is a substance which contain microorganism which when applied to the
plant, promote growth by increasing the supply or availability of primary nutrient to
the host plant. Bio fertilizers do not cause environmental pollution
MINOR CONCEPT
Microbial fertilizers contain microorganism which can convert nitrogen into nitrates and
phosphorus which is insoluble in water into soluble form. Nitrates dissolving microbes
include Azatobacter ,Rhizobium etc
Phosphate dissolving microbes are also there. Pseudomonas putida ,Bacillus polymixa
Farmers dump plants and animals waste in pits of open places and allow it to
decompose. The decompostiion is caused by microorganism. The decomposed matter is
used as Organic manure.
5. LERANING OUTCOMES
Enable the pupils to
1. Factual knowledge on Application of Bio fertilizers and chemical fertilizers through
Recalling new terms such as chemical fertilizers , organic manure s etc , facts and
concept mentioned in the content analysis
Recognizing the different types of fertilizers used in agriculture
2. Conceptual knowledge about fertilizers and its use through
Recalling the different fertilizers used in agriculture to ensure the fertility of the soil
Recognizing the advantages of bio fertilizers over chemical fertilizers
3. Procedural knowledge about different fertilizers through
Collecting information from various sources about fertilizers used in agriculture
Conducting awareness programme about Advantage of bio fertilizers over chemical
fertilizers
4. Metacoginitive knowledge on various fertilizers through
6. Recognizing the aspects of different fertilizers and its application
Making inferences on the various fertilizers to make agriculture profitable
5. Scientific attitude towards the application of Bio fertilizers in agriculture
6. Develop process skills lkike classifying ,comparing ,explaining on the Application of
fertilizers in agriculture
PREREQUISITE
Knowledge on the importance of fertilizers in agriculture

7. Lakshmi and Renju were two friends went to their uncle Ravi’s house during summer vaccination
.Her uncle is a farmer . One day they visit uncle’s farm land.
They saw different types of crops, vegetables fruits etc in the farm. At that time Lakshmi noticed
something different there. She asked uncle about it
8. Lakshmi : Uncle, I saw healthy crops growing in your farm. In the neighbouring farm the plants were
weak. Why do some plants grow better than others?
Uncle : Lakshmi , we manure the soil to maintain its fertility .So we get good quality of crops from
my field
Renju : what type of manures is used in your farm?
Uncle : Mainly Organic waste
Lakshmi : Organic waste ? What is it?
Uncle : Look there. Can you see it, some people preparing manures for Crops .
9. Renju : Yes
Uncle : I will explain you, Organic waste are the manure obtained from the decomposition of plants
and animals it is also called as Biofertilizers .
Uncle shows a large pit in his field. Renju and Lakshmi were excited to see it
Renju : Rotten smell
Uncle : ha ha… dear it is waste
Lakshmi : How do you make this?
Uncle : Dumping plants and animal waste in this pit and allows it to decompose. The decomposition
is caused by some microorganism in it
10. Renju : I heard about this in my biology text
Lakshmi : Uncle can you explain more about microorganism?
Uncle : Microorganism are the organism which we cannot see through our naked eyes. There are
microorganism which can convert nitrogen into nitrates and phosphorus which is insoluble in water into
soluble form.
Renju : What is the benefit for plant by this conversion?
Uncle : Plants cannot nitrogen directly from the atmosphere. With the help of this type
microorganism they get essential elements for their growth
Lakshmi : My uncle Prasad uses chemical fertilizers in his farm . He says that it is easy to use and give
good yield. Why don’t you chemical fertilizers in your farm?
Uncle : Do you know that a chemical fertilizer does not provide any humus to the soil. Overuse of
chemical fertilizers make soil infertile and it is also hazards to the environment.
Lakshmi : I will tell him about this and ask him to avoid the use chemical fertilizers
Then they went to see his Pisciculture farm .Renju noticed some round green leaf like structures in the
pond
11. Renju : what is it?
Uncle : oh… it is Azolla
He take some Azolla from the pond and shows to them
12. Uncle : Azolla is aquatic plant. It is used as food for fishes and also used as Biofertlizer.
Renju : As Biofertilizer?
Uncle : Yes Renju , Azolla when decays , plant get elements like phosphorus , potassium , zinc and
iron as manure which is essential for their growth.
Renju : Thanks uncle, today you give lot of information about fertilizers
Lakshmi : You are right Renju . We will tell our friends about it
Uncle : You must tell your Prasad uncle about the harmful effects of chemical fertilizers and ask him
to use Bio fertilizers in his field thus we can save our environment and also the health of the people .
Lakshmi : Definitely .
Uncle : It’s time to go back to home .Tomorrow I will take both of you to other places
Renju : Thank you
Lakshmi : Thank you uncle Ravi
