Where next for AOI’s, Inquiry &
   Differentiation at CA?

This is our work together on an AOI workshop in IBAP, April 2012.
None of this is definite (or cohesive) – it is a collection of our thoughts.
Meeting the needs of our school
  • Recently authorised for MYP
  • Recent focus on Assessment
  • Moving to inquiry, differentiation, AOI’s/ contexts

  • How can AOI’s/ SLE’s be integrated into inquiry and
    differentiation in the classroom?

  • How do we define inquiry in our school and how should it be
demonstrated or used in each class?

  • Can we use inquiry as a tool for differentiation?
  • Can we use differentiation as a tool for inquiry?

                                                                  2

MYP Inquiry Cycle: An opportunity for differentiation?

Does the use of ‘Action’ in the Inquiry Cycle lead to a confusion of
meaning, such as with the meaning of Action in IBDP CAS?
Inquiry should facilitate differentiation

We will have Sandra Page working on differentiation at CA in September.
What are the delimiters of inquiry in your classroom?
Where would you position your class on this spectrum?

    Freedom of content
    Freedom of product

                                                        Content backwash/ requirements
                                                          IBDP internal assessment prep

How does this change in your class over the course of the MYP?
 MYP 1 MYP 5
Feeding in from: PYP Project Feeding in to: IB Diploma#
Highly student-driven inquiry Focused inquiry from a high level of foundation knowledge
                                                #or another high-stakes, standardised assessment

Is this also true of potential for differentiation?

There is potential for differentiation and inquiry in all
classes, though the parameters for these may differ.
