The DP Science criteria are assessed differently than in MYP Science. The ONE WORLD and COMMUNICATION criteria are still expected to be considered but are not independently assessed. The KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING criterion becomes more heavily assessed through written exams. The SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY and PROCESSING DATA criteria are broken into separate criteria for design, data collection, conclusion and evaluation, with each aspect assessed on a scale of 0 to 2. The ATTITUDE IN SCIENCE criterion becomes two criteria for manipulative and personal skills, also assessed on a scale of 0 to 2 for each aspect.

be considered within real-world contexts.

However, it is expected that the criteria is
met in written work.
For example, literature values must be
referenced in practical work.

4. The KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF
SCIENCE criterion becomes a heavily
assessed criterion.
Assessment is no longer against criteria but
measured in number of marks earned out of
a total number possible on written exam-like
assessments.

5. The SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY and PROCESSING
DATA criteria are redistributed into 3
criteria – Design, Data Collection and
Processing, and Conclusion and Evaluation.
Each of these is subdivided into 3 aspects
which are separately assessed based on
descriptors on a scale of 0 to 2.
Assessment is very similar to the MYP but
stricter.

6. The ATTITUDE IN SCIENCE criterion is revised
and redistributed into two criteria –
Manipulative Skills and Personal Skills.
As noted above, each of these is subdivided
into 3 aspects and assessed using descriptors
on a scale of 0 to 2.
