2. Theme & colour scheme
Based on on recent research from other magazine designs I have noticed
that the most common colour scheme is Red, white and black. From this
research I have decided to base my magazine colour scheme on these three
colours. This will include titles, sub-titles, quotes, advertisement and other
pieces of text. Through out the process of designing my magazine I will
record any changes in colours and the reasons behind it.
Here are some example of a red white and black colour theme on a
magazine :
3. Colour scheme
• As explained above the chosen colours for my magazine layout are
red, white and black, below is a colour scheme showing these colours
4. Images, costumes & props
• Images – For images i will need to ensure it suits the
purpose of the genre, if it doesn't readers may automatically
be drawn away from the magazine. For example, XXL
always use big and well known hip hop artists such as
Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 cent etc… to attract their
audience.
• Props – Matching the genre bring props into play, this
means I will need to use props such as large rings, chains,
money, bandanas, hats, glasses and other necessary props to
attract the reader and suit the purpose
• Costumes – Costumes also come into play when ensuring
the image meets it’s genres needs, I will need to use hip hop
styled clothing such as hoodies, baggy jeans, noticeable
branded trainers, expensive clothing, bandanas, snapbacks
etc..
5. Locations for shoots
• After researching current hip hop
main images I have noticed that
most/nearly all front page images
have plain backgrounds such as
black or white. From this research I
have decided that I am going to use a
studio screening shoot for my front
page and contents page image which
will allow me to choose the colour
of my background but also keep the
concentration of the photo high.
6. Locations for shoots
• For my double page spread I am planning on finding a local urban
location to cover two pages or one whole page which matches the story
behind the image. Below are some images showing sub urban area’s in
which would be ideal for my shoot, these images would be good for a
double page spread as both pages can be used to represent the image
7. Sell line content
• Sell line content is the other pieces
of text that advertise other articles
inside the magazine. From research
I have noticed that most magazines
advertise other artists that are
features inside, this may be
because it attracts readers to
purchase the magazine as it may
contain their favourite artist.
• I am planning on advertising my
brand website and features that are
stored inside on my front page
Sell line content
8. Image shoot collage ideas
My chosen genre for my magazine is hiphop/rap, this means my images should relate to
the genre. for example my front page image is the most recognisable image to the reader
so this image must attract fans from the genre’s background by using costumes and props.
