This study examined the closure of the spheno-occipital synchondrosis (SOS) in 217 Yemeni subjects aged 15-25 using CT scans to determine if it is a useful age estimation tool. The SOS was classified into four stages: open, semi-closed, closed with scar, closed without scar. Mean ages for males were 16, 18.5, 21.32, and 21.78 years respectively, while for females they were 15, 20, 21.56, and 20.41 years. Regression analysis showed a linear correlation between age and SOS stage for both sexes. The study concluded the SOS could be a useful forensic age estimation tool for Yemenis.
