CIRCULAR STATEMENT Develops different dimensions of knowledge, 
attitude and process skills on traditional food and 
fast food through lecture method, discussion, field 
study and evaluation by questioning, demonstration 
work and group discussion.

tartrazin. 
TERMS 
FACTS 1. Traditional foods are food that are nutritious in 
nature. 
2. Nutritional food is required for the proper growth 
and health of the body. 
3. Fast foods are foods that are prepared and served 
quickly. 
4. Presently the popularity of the fast food is 
increasing. 
5. Advantage of fast food is that the time spent on 
cooking can be saved. 
6. Health problems and economic problems will 
occur due to the use of fast food. 
7. Artificial substances are added to fast foods. 
8. Tartrazin is a chemical used to add yellow color to 
laddu and chips. 
9. Over eating of fat containing fast foods leads to 
heart diseases, diabetes, increase in blood pressure 
etc. 
10. We must include food containing cellulose in our 
diet. 
11. It has become a habit for youngsters t depend on 
fast food. 
12. A good noon meal provides all nutrients needed 
for one day. 
13. Light refreshments will be low in protein. 
MINOR CONCEPTS 1. Traditional foods are nutritional foods that 
contain all the nutrients for the growth and health of 
the body. 
2. Time spent for cooking can be saved through fast 
food but its regular use will create health and 
economic problems. 
3. In fast food, artificial substances are added to 
increase smell and taste.
4. Over eating of fast food leads to certain diseases 
such as diabetes, heart diseases, increased blood 
pressure etc. 
5. Youngsters depend mainly on fast food and they 
skip traditional non meals which provide all nutrients 
needed for one day. 
MAJOR CONCEPTS Traditional foods are nutritional foods that is 
required for the proper growth and health of the 
body whereas over dependence on fast food will 
lead to illness. 
LEARNING OUTCOME Enables the pupil to develop 
-factual knowledge on the importance of traditional 
food through 
(i) Recalling new terms like traditional food, fast 
food, tartrazin, nutritional food etc facts, concepts 
mentioned in contact analysis. 
(ii) Recognizing the effects of over dependence on 
fast food. 
(iii) Explaining the reasons for the disadvantages of 
fast food. 
-Conceptual knowledge about fast food and 
traditional food through 
(i) Recalling the types of fast food and traditional 
food. 
(ii) Recognizing the advantages and disadvantages of 
using fast food. 
(iii) Comparing the advantages and disadvantages of 
fast food and traditional food. 
-procedural knowledge on the effects of fast food 
through 
(i) Differentiating the importance of using traditional 
food from fast food. 
(ii) Executing a seminar making awareness on the ill 
effects of over dependence on fast foods. 
-metacognition knowledge on the disadvantages of 
using fast food through 
(i) Recognizing the different types of fast foods in 
our society. 
(ii) implementing different ways to make awareness 
about the ill effects of over dependence on fast 
foods

due to over dependence on fast food. 
(ii) The role of traditional food in maintaining good

PRE REQUISITES Traditional foods are good for health whereas over 
use of fast food will lead to an unhealthy life. 
TEACHER ACTIVITY PUPIL’S ACTIVITY 
INTRODUCTION

-Idli, Dosa, Rice, fish curry etc 
-pizza, burger, noodles, fried rice etc

-they are more tastier

1. How many of you like to go out? 
2. Do you like to have food from home or 
restaurants? 
3. Name some homemade or traditional food? 
4. What food you like to have from outside? 
5. Do you know what we call for such foods that 
we have from outside? 
6. Why do we like to have food from outside? 
7. Do you think they are healthy than 
homemade food? 
So today we will learn about advantages and 
disadvantages of fast food over traditional food. 
PRESENTATION 
ACTIVITY I 
Teacher shows a video clipping related to food. 
Students were asked to observe it carefully and 
identify the merits and demerits of the food 
items.

2. What do you understand from the video? 
3. What message did the video conveyed? 
-Burger, soft drinks, pizzas, ice creams etc

-Avoid fast food and enjoy home meals for healthy 
life. 
CONSOLIDATION 
*Burger, Sandwich, soft drinks etc are examples 
of fast food.

*The video conveyed that avoid fast food and 
enjoy home meals for a healthy life. 
ACTIVITY II 
Teacher asks the students to listen to the 
conversation between Ramu and Raju and 
answer the questions in the discussion points. 
Ramu: Hai Raju! How are you? 
Raju: Hai Ramu! I was not well. 
Ramu: what happened to you? 
Raju: I was hospitalized due to food poison. 
Ramu: Oh god! What you had? 
Raju: I love to have food from hotels and I had a 
non-vegetarian dinner. 
Ramu: it may be tastier and easily available but, 
do you think they are good for your health? 
Raju: you are right. They may not be as 
nutritious as traditional homemade food. 
Ramu: fast foods are usually too oily and 
preservatives may be added. 
Raju: Yes, My doctor advised me to have 
homemade food like idli, dosa, vegetables, rice 
etc to maintain my health. 
Ramu: That’s good. To stay healthy always eat 
nutritious freshly prepared traditional food. 
Raju: Sure Ramu, I will take care of my health.

CONTENT ANALYSIS Traditional food, fast food, nutritional food, tartrazin. TERMS FACTS 1. Traditional foods are food that are nutritious in nature. 2. Nutritional food is required for the proper growth and health of the body. 3. Fast foods are foods that are prepared and served quickly. 4. Presently the popularity of the fast food is increasing. 5. Advantage of fast food is that the time spent on cooking can be saved. 6. Health problems and economic problems will occur due to the use of fast food. 7. Artificial substances are added to fast foods. 8. Tartrazin is a chemical used to add yellow color to laddu and chips. 9. Over eating of fat containing fast foods leads to heart diseases, diabetes, increase in blood pressure etc. 10. We must include food containing cellulose in our diet. 11. It has become a habit for youngsters t depend on fast food. 12. A good noon meal provides all nutrients needed for one day. 13. Light refreshments will be low in protein. MINOR CONCEPTS 1. Traditional foods are nutritional foods that contain all the nutrients for the growth and health of the body. 2. Time spent for cooking can be saved through fast food but its regular use will create health and economic problems. 3. In fast food, artificial substances are added to increase smell and taste.
  • 2. 4. Over eating of fast food leads to certain diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases, increased blood pressure etc. 5. Youngsters depend mainly on fast food and they skip traditional non meals which provide all nutrients needed for one day. MAJOR CONCEPTS Traditional foods are nutritional foods that is required for the proper growth and health of the body whereas over dependence on fast food will lead to illness. LEARNING OUTCOME Enables the pupil to develop -factual knowledge on the importance of traditional food through (i) Recalling new terms like traditional food, fast food, tartrazin, nutritional food etc facts, concepts mentioned in contact analysis. (ii) Recognizing the effects of over dependence on fast food. (iii) Explaining the reasons for the disadvantages of fast food. -Conceptual knowledge about fast food and traditional food through (i) Recalling the types of fast food and traditional food. (ii) Recognizing the advantages and disadvantages of using fast food. (iii) Comparing the advantages and disadvantages of fast food and traditional food. -procedural knowledge on the effects of fast food through (i) Differentiating the importance of using traditional food from fast food. (ii) Executing a seminar making awareness on the ill effects of over dependence on fast foods. -metacognition knowledge on the disadvantages of using fast food through (i) Recognizing the different types of fast foods in our society. (ii) implementing different ways to make awareness about the ill effects of over dependence on fast foods -scientific attitude towards (i) Knowing more and more about health hazards

TEACHER ACTIVITY PUPIL’S ACTIVITY INTRODUCTION -home, restaurants, both -Idli, Dosa, Rice, fish curry etc -pizza, burger, noodles, fried rice etc -fast foods -they are more tastier -No 1. How many of you like to go out? 2. Do you like to have food from home or restaurants? 3. Name some homemade or traditional food? 4. What food you like to have from outside? 5. Do you know what we call for such foods that we have from outside? 6. Why do we like to have food from outside? 7. Do you think they are healthy than homemade food? So today we will learn about advantages and disadvantages of fast food over traditional food. PRESENTATION ACTIVITY I Teacher shows a video clipping related to food. What message did the video conveyed? -Burger, soft drinks, pizzas, ice creams etc -Fast food results in obesity and health problems -Avoid fast food and enjoy home meals for healthy life. CONSOLIDATION *Burger, Sandwich, soft drinks etc are examples of fast food. *Fast food results in obesity and health problems *The video conveyed that avoid fast food and enjoy home meals for a healthy life. ACTIVITY II Teacher asks the students to listen to the conversation between Ramu and Raju and answer the questions in the discussion points. Ramu: Hai Raju! How are you? Raju: Hai Ramu! I was not well. Ramu: what happened to you? Raju: I was hospitalized due to food poison. Ramu: Oh god! What you had? Raju: I love to have food from hotels and I had a non-vegetarian dinner. Ramu: it may be tastier and easily available but, do you think they are good for your health? Raju: you are right. They may not be as nutritious as traditional homemade food. Ramu: fast foods are usually too oily and preservatives may be added. Raju: Yes, My doctor advised me to have homemade food like idli, dosa, vegetables, rice etc to maintain my health. Ramu: That’s good. To stay healthy always eat nutritious freshly prepared traditional food. Raju: Sure Ramu, I will take care of my health. DISCUSSION POINTS 1. What happened to Raju? 2.
