2. A music genre is a conventional category that identifies pieces of music as
belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions. It is to be distinguished
from musical form and musical style, although in practice these terms are
sometimes used interchangeably
Some examples of music genres are rock and roll. Hip hop, RnB, Rap, Jazz,
punk, country, blues, indie and so on.
My chosen genre is Rap, Rap is a style of popular music, developed by disc
jockeys and urban blacks in the late 1970s, it usually occurs over a certain beat
in which artists words are recited rapidly and rhythmically over an
instrumental backing.
I am going to use a sub genre of Rap and Hip Hop as they are both similar
and contain may artists.
WHAT IS A MUSIC GENRE?
3. MY GENRE AND THREE
EXAMPLES
This image relates to my genre as it
shows many different artists that are
in the rap/hip hop game. Some
examples of artists in this image are
Biggie Smalls, Tupac, Snoop Dog,
Chipmunk ect…
This image relates to my chosen genre as
the clothes represent a hip hop theme,
for example the artists jacket shows gold
chains and rings and the artist himself is
also wearing gold chains. His posture is
also related to the genre as his arms are
out representing rap.
This image shows Eminem sitting
down with a straight look on his
face. This relates to my chosen
genre as he looks serious/straight to
the point, which in he rapping
industry Is key. His outfit also
represents a hip hop/rap dress
code.
4. Key components are what make something specific by its features. Hip
Hop/rap has many different key components which I will list below:
IDENTIFY THE KEY COMPONENTS OF
YOUR GENRE, REFERING TO THE
EXAMPLES
Hip hop:
• Rap music (oral)
• Turntablism (Djing)
• Breaking (physical)
• Graffiti art (visual)
Rap
• Content
• Flow
• Rhythm
• Rhyme
• Delivery
Rapping is distinct from spoken word poetry in that
it is performed in time to a beat. Rapping is often
associated with and a primary ingredient of hip hop
music, but the origins of the phenomenon can be
said to predate hip hop culture by centuries.
These foundational elements provide
stability and coherence to the culture. The
term is frequently used mistakenly to refer
in a confining fashion to the mere practice
of rap music
5. Conventions are shots or angle in which artists are shown in clips or pictures to
represent the genre.
