The Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) is analyzing antibiotic resistance data from four major hospitals for the first time in India. The data is being collected from six nodal centers located at hospitals in Chandigarh, Vellore, Delhi, and Puducherry. This data on patterns of resistance in six common pathogens will help forecast future resistance and guide treatment by clinicians. There is growing concern about rising antibiotic resistance in India due to overuse and misuse of antibiotics. The surveillance network will expand to provide the first nationwide analysis of antibiotic resistance in India.
