MediSafe - Mobile Medication Management PlatformJon Michaeli
• MediSafe is a mobile-first medication management platform, different from a pill reminder application, because it addresses all of the major causes of non-adherence -- forgetfulness, lack of support, emotional distress, information overload, low engagement, and rising medication costs (in the form of copays).
• MediSafe engages patients in their treatment by sharing results (e.g. via lab tests and biometrics), motivates futher through connections to physicians and care teams, and offers a holistic and simplified approach to managing their health via related educational content (e.g. diet, exercise), easy access to prescription refills, and other value added services.
• MediSafe is the industry leader with over 1.3 million downloads and hundreds of thousands of weekly active users across iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.
• MediSafe apps have earned a 4.5 star rating from 50,000+ reviews across Google Play and iTunes app stores.
It's no secret that any EHR takes away essential time with the patient and doctoring in general. See what athenahealth is doing to help remedy these frustrations and to make the best out of a bad situation.
Even though EHRs have replaced paper health records aiming to make data management more convenient, managing health records is still an apprehension for patients. With the introduction of BlueButton 2.0, patients will have access to 4 years of their health record. This gives the patients more confidence in their health care and make data more comprehensive and easily accessible. By facilitating access to patient health history, it has the potential to drive down Medicare spending and improve health outcomes.

It’s a common question: how are microservices different from the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) we saw a decade ago? While they might be similar to what SOA advocates support, microservices have proven to deliver impressive developer productivity gains at the largest enterprises, including as Google, Amazon, and Netflix.
Pivotal’s Matt Stine and Apigee’s Alan Ho discuss:
- real-world examples of microservices best practices
- anti-patterns and traps for microservices
- recommendations on tools & technology to help with microservices implementations
In this webcast, L.L.Bean’s Kristopher Kleva walks us through the company’s digital commerce API platform, and explain how APIs enable the century-old company’s multiple marketing, retail, and big data systems, in addition to supporting its multiple mobile apps and mobile web site.

Docker is the developer-friendly container technology that enables creation of your application stack: OS, JVM, app server, app, database and all your custom configuration. So you are a Java developer but how comfortable are you and your team taking Docker from development to production? Are you hearing developers say, “But it works on my machine!” when code breaks in production? And if you are, how many hours are then spent standing up an accurate test environment to research and fix the bug that caused the problem?
This workshop/session explains how to package, deploy, and scale Java applications using Docker.
Oscon London 2016 - Docker from Development to ProductionPatrick Chanezon
Docker revolutionized how developers and operations teams build, ship, and run applications, enabling them to leverage the latest advancements in software development: the microservice architecture style, the immutable infrastructure deployment style, and the DevOps cultural model.
Existing software layers are not a great fit to leverage these trends. Infrastructure as a service is too low level; platform as a service is too high level; but containers as a service (CaaS) is just right. Container images are just the right level of abstraction for DevOps, allowing developers to specify all their dependencies at build time, building and testing an artifact that, when ready to ship, is the exact thing that will run in production. CaaS gives ops teams the tools to control how to run these workloads securely and efficiently, providing portability between different cloud providers and on-premises deployments.
Patrick Chanezon offers a detailed overview of the latest evolutions to the Docker ecosystem enabling CaaS: standards (OCI, CNCF), infrastructure (runC, containerd, Notary), platform (Docker, Swarm), and services (Docker Cloud, Docker Datacenter). Patrick ends with a demo showing how to do in-container development of a Spring Boot application on a Mac running a preconfigured IDE in a container, provision a highly available Swarm cluster using Docker Datacenter on a cloud provider, and leverage the latest Docker tools to build, ship, and run a polyglot application architected as a set of microservices—including how to set up load balancing.

Accelerating Patient Care with Real World EvidenceCitiusTech
Life sciences and pharma companies are evolving their strategies to utilize Real World Data (RWD) to demonstrate value of pharmaceutical and medical device innovations. Technology advancements at the point of care and improvements in data collection strategies have led to a significant increase in the availability of RWD in healthcare
Real World Evidence (RWE) can provide actionable patient insights and accelerates time to market of new medical products in order to gain competitive advantage
With the emergence of wearable technologies, Internet of Things (IOT), Cognitive Computing, Genomics, Blockchain, etc., future RWE data sources will become more diverse and extensive. This document introduces the concept of Real World Evidence studies in healthcare, describes the various data sources for performing real world analytics and illustrates the role of RWE in better patient care. It then summarizes challenges faced while performing RWE analytics with respect to regulatory compliance, data accessibility and sharing, analysis reporting, costs etc.

Defecation
Normal defecation begins with movement in the left colon, moving stool toward the anus. When stool reaches the rectum, the distention causes relaxation of the internal sphincter and an awareness of the need to defecate. At the time of defecation, the external sphincter relaxes, and abdominal muscles contract, increasing intrarectal pressure and forcing the stool out
The Valsalva maneuver exerts pressure to expel faeces through a voluntary contraction of the abdominal muscles while maintaining forced expiration against a closed airway. Patients with cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, increased intracranial pressure, or a new surgical wound are at greater risk for cardiac dysrhythmias and elevated blood pressure with the Valsalva maneuver and need to avoid straining to pass the stool.
Normal defecation is painless, resulting in passage of soft, formed stool
CONSTIPATION
Constipation is a symptom, not a disease. Improper diet, reduced fluid intake, lack of exercise, and certain medications can cause constipation. For example, patients receiving opiates for pain after surgery often require a stool softener or laxative to prevent constipation. The signs of constipation include infrequent bowel movements (less than every 3 days), difficulty passing stools, excessive straining, inability to defecate at will, and hard feaces
IMPACTION
Fecal impaction results from unrelieved constipation. It is a collection of hardened feces wedged in the rectum that a person cannot expel. In cases of severe impaction the mass extends up into the sigmoid colon.
DIARRHEA
Diarrhea is an increase in the number of stools and the passage of liquid, unformed feces. It is associated with disorders affecting digestion, absorption, and secretion in the GI tract. Intestinal contents pass through the small and large intestine too quickly to allow for the usual absorption of fluid and nutrients. Irritation within the colon results in increased mucus secretion. As a result, feces become watery, and the patient is unable to control the urge to defecate. Normally an anal bag is safe and effective in long-term treatment of patients with fecal incontinence at home, in hospice, or in the hospital. Fecal incontinence is expensive and a potentially dangerous condition in terms of contamination and risk of skin ulceration
