The Faculty Association of AIIMS has written to the institute director requesting that new recruitment of 118 assistant professors be put on hold. The association argues that there is not enough office space and residential facilities to accommodate more new hires, as 14 doctors have resigned in the last two years due to lack of work space and logistical issues. However, AIIMS administration claims that new hires are needed to address the increased patient load and allow faculty more time for research. The administration is working with the health ministry to build new facilities that will provide more office and residential spaces.

The Faculty Association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences has written to the
institute director demanding that new recruitment for assistant professors should
be put on hold.AIIMS had recently published advertisements for hiring 118 doctors,
assistant professor level, for which interviews are going to be held in August. The
association said it is needless because there is not enough office spa ce and
residential facility to accommodate them.
Dr C S Bal, faculty association president, told TOI the demand is being made in view
of the fact that at least 14 doctors have resigned in the last two years due to lack of
work, office space and other logistical problems.
“In the last two years, more than 250 people have been hired without focusing on
the demarcating work, or office space and even residential facilities,“ he added.
As per the list shared by AIIMS faculty members, two doc tors each -in the rank of
assistant professor -have resigned from oncology , medicine and anesthesia
divisions of the hospital. The rest belong to dermatology , psychiatry, surgical
oncology , microbiology , radiotherapy , urology and pediatrics departments.

But senior officials in the AIIMS administration claimed that new
appointment are needed in view of the increased patient load.
“We also need to have ex tra strength to ensure the faculty gets time
for academic work and research. The administration as well as the
health ministry are working together to build super-specialty blocks, for
example the mother and child centre, to provide more office space,“
said an official.
He added, “ Also, the detailed project report for building multi-storey
buildings in Ayurvigyan Nagar and Western Campus has been
approved. It will ensure at least 1,000 more dwelling for doctors and
other staff of the hospital.“
