This document provides details of a proposed construction project to build a food court on a vacant plot of land in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Selangor, Malaysia. The site was chosen for its strategic location near residential and commercial areas. The proposed food court is intended to provide a gathering space for nearby residents to relax and socialize while enjoying a variety of international foods. INTRODUCTION
In this project, students have to work in a group of 2 to find a specific empty land to
initiate a small construction project. The size of the land shall between 50m x 50m
(2500m2) – 50m x 70m (3500m2). The site we have chosen is located near the
residential and shop lots area to the road of Jalan Permaisuri, Bandar Mahkota Cheras,
43200 Cheras, Selangor, Malaysia.

Site analysis
The chosen site is located near the residential and shop lots area in Mahkota, Cheras.
The chosen site is a lawn area. The reason of the site was chosen because it has a
strategic location.
Existing Structure
Around the site, it has a role of terraced house, shop lots, a temple and a
condominium.
Circulation
By the site plan, there are 3 ways that can reach our chosen site. So that people can
come in by different direction.

Vegetation
There is some natural landscape in the chosen site. It consists of woody plants like
trees and shrubs, makes the site closer to the nature.
Observation
From the observation, there is something we need to remove and restrain. All of the
parts of site analysis have their own design issues.
Utility
Lack of traffic lights on the road junction beside the site. Makes it easy for accidents
to happen. It is also dangerous for pedestrian crossing the roads.
Circulation
We can come to this site by many ways. Thus, it is a great potential to make
accessible to enter the site.
Vegetation
As there are natural landscape at the site, it grows randomly and untidy. It could also
hide dangerous animal like snakes. The natural landscape should be remove and
rearrange.
Conclusion
Overall, it has the potential to build commercial area as it is surrounded by residential
area. It will be a place for resident nearby to relax and hang out.

Proposal of The Chosen
Site
Advantages
It is surrounded by residential area, which means there is many people around the area.
It is on a flat land that can built buildings easily without altering the site. The site also
have 3 open sides, providing a wide view and easy access from the residents nearby.
The site also have a good exposure to sunlight, open air and rainfall, which makes the
site suitable for many function. There are a few trees and shrubs which can be easily
removed, so the cost of clearing the site will not be high.
Disadvantages
The site has poor drainage system which need to be improve during the construction
of project. Another thing, the grass on the site needed to be trim as the site has been
bared for a long time.
Rationale
After analysing the site, the advantages and disadvantages, I decided to propose a
food court. The residents here have access to some commercial area, but they do not
have easy access to them. In addition, the commercial area nearby has only a few café
and restaurant in it. There are only a few places for the residents nearby to meet up
and hang out together. There are also only some parking spot for the commercial area
around there, with this new site, I will add in a parking lot for the food court. That
way, it will be easier for the residents to park and eat at the food court.
Benefits
As there are many residential area nearby, such as Taman Temenggung, Taman
Dayang, Taman Permaisuri and a condominium, the food court can provide them a
huge space to eat and meet. Resident around there can come to eat anytime they wish
and with a large variety of food choices all together at a place. Meet up with family
and friends is more easy and relaxing as there is a huge parking lot for parking

making residents won’t have to face the no parking problem again. It also makes the
whole area become lively and friendly. Residents can enjoy many kinds of food from
many countries inside the food court and won’t get bored of it. The prices of food in
the food court will always be cheaper than the café and restaurant at the commercial
area. Residents also can enjoy the pleasant scenery with the natural landscapes design
in the food court. The open area gives the resident a break from the reality. It is also a
place for people to increase and nurture their friendship while enjoying meals. The
food court can boost the value of the surrounding shop lots and also residential area
because of the parking lots and variety of foods. The food court tends to attract ever
more investment.
Impacts
The traffic will be crowded when it is lunch or dinner times. Although there is public
parking lot located beside the food court, the food court may be overcrowded in lunch
or dinner hour. There will be less space for parking and eating and will effect the
traffic of the road around the food court. The food court will cause sound pollution
around the residential area with sounds of people shouting and talking. Some parts of
the food court might also be smelly. The construction of the food court will need high
cost for the material as it is a huge food court.

Project Proposal
After my analysis on the empty plot of land in Mahkota, Cheras. There are no
food court nearby for the residents to have a space to gather around, relax and eat. So
I decided to propose a food court as a commercial area for the nearby residents as it is
surrounded by resident area and some shop lots. This can create a harmony
atmosphere for the nearby residents to relax and eat together.
The design is focus on the closeness and relationship between neighbourhood
and friends in a natural environmental and leisure place. I decided to build a food
court for people to have a meaningful relationship with each other while enjoying
their meals. This design is suitable to build inside the residential area. People can
gather every time with their friends or family because it just in the centre of
residential area. This design can makes the residential area becomes lively.
The food stalls inside food court are promoting International food such as
Japanese food, Korean Food, Italian food and mostly the delicious Malaysian foods.
We consist of a huge variety of food around the world and domestic. So the food
court is targeted for people of all ages with many choices of food. The overall style of
the food court will make people to feel refresh and relax after having a meal because
it is an open air food court and based on green design.

Project Details
Open Space (Parking Lots)
LAYOUT OF THE PARKING LOT
The car park is landscape with trees, and shrubs. The parking lot is in standard size of
3.5m x 6m. The road for the car park will be around 4m wide which can make 2 cars
passes on the same time. There will be one main entrance on the north- west of the
parking lot (as shown on layout diagram above), as the exit is on the south-east of the
parking lots. The design of the car park uses a circulation system, it is to reduce the
traffic congestion and let the residents to find a parking spot more easier.

The car park is grass landscaped. The grass landscape decorates the parking lot and
gives the car park a greener scene. It also brings out some nature element to the
parking lot as the trees and shrubs decrease the pollute of the cars.
Design of the Roof of the FoodCourt
The pictures shown above will be the design of the roof. The food court will be open-
aired. The design of the roof shape like a 8, it is towards a more modern design. The
roof have a huge hole on the center. People sitting at the center can directly look up to

the sky when they are dinning. This makes the food court more close to the air and
people dinning at the food court won’t feel like they are trap in a heat cage, they will
fell more refresh. They can enjoy the scenery of the sky day and night whenever they
like at the food court.
Design of the Entrance of the FoodCourt
This is the design of all the entrance of the food court. The food court have four
entrance on each row of the food stall. The entrance feature the name of the food
court, it also feature some famous food stall name on the entrance. The design go with
a modern look, with the glass and steel design. There is also plants to make the
entrance feature the green feeling. The entrance feature wood decking, it makes the
overall feel more close to nature.

The inside of the food court is look like the picture above. The wooden decking is
around the food stall, there is stairs to the wide open area in the middle which is full
with tables and chairs. There are many plants, shrubs and small trees planted around
the food court. They make a good decoration and makes a green environment.

Layout of the Food Court
The small square on the whole food court represent the layout of the table and chair.
The table and chair arrangement in the food court is arrange freely in the open space
as this will bring more open and relax feel to the food court. The freely arrange table
and chair also match with the open roof concept of the food court. The food court will
feel like fully open-aired.
Furthermore, there will be a water fountain on the centre to become a side attraction
for the food court. Blossom of flower, shrubs and trees will be planted around the
food court as well.

Rationale

Impacts
The traffic will be crowded when it is in the morning or evening
and times during lunch break in the afternoon. To overcome
this problem, the office building will have 15 parking located
outside the building to allow car to park and prevent traffic
congestion. Although there is a underground parking, the office
building maybe overcrowded in peak seasons.
There will be less space for other purposes in the area. The
local authorities will need to plan accordingly to ensure the
office building is sustainable. In long terms, the office building
will need maintenance and in need a high cost.

around there, such as health benefits and social benefits. The
workers will have better health linked to green space as they
are more likely to relax during their break time to release stress.
It can also improve mental health and well-being for workers

in air and noise quality.
