This document discusses a study that used PDAs to support communicative English classes in Japan. The study aimed to address problems in English education by making classes more interactive. Students used PDAs to record interview questions, practice readings, conduct peer interviews and interviews with international students. They then uploaded recordings and summaries to a learning management system. Based on surveys, most students responded positively to using the PDAs, finding them convenient. However, issues with battery life and wireless connectivity arose. Overall, the study found PDA-assisted classes helped improve students' communicative skills and class interaction. Future work could explore using smartphones instead of PDAs to address costs and recruit more international students.
