2. Introduction
•Irritable bowel syndrome is not a disease it is a
functional disorder.
•IBS is a common disorder that affects the large
intestine(colon).
•IBC commonly causes cramping,
abdominal pain, bloating, gas,
diarrhoea and constipation.
3. Types of IBS
IBS can be subdivided into
• Constipation- predominant (IBS-C):Food mores
too slowly though the bowel, this causes stool
that is hard to pass.
• Diarrhoea predominant (IBS-D):Food moves too
quickly though the bowel, this causes watery
stool. The person tends to experience diarrhoea
after eating. They need to go toilet urgent.
• Alternating constipation and diarrhoea IBS-A or
(IBS-M) mixed IBS.

Phygical symptoms:
Diarrhoea
Constipation
A lote of gas or bloating
Bally pain and clamping
Meantal & emotionaly symptoms:
Anxiety
Depeation
Chaist pain
Urinary symptoms:
Insomnia

9. Treatmrnt for IBS
Treatment op tions may include:
1. Fiber supplements for constipation like psyllium or methylcellulose.
2. Reducing or eliminating common gas-producing foods, such as beans
and cabbage.
3. Reducing or eliminating dairy foods, if lactose intolerance is a trigger.
4. Antidiarrhoea medication, such as imodium or lomotil-these can be an
essential part of management in those with diarrhoea-predominant
IBS.
5. Stress management, if stress seems to be triggering the attacks.
6. Low FODMAP diet(fermentable oligo Di Monosaccharides and polyols)
are short chain carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed in small
intestine.
7. Dietary changes : eliminsting high gas foods.
10. Conclusion of IBS
• A small portion of patients with IBS symptoms
seen medical attention. Patients who suffer
form IBS often donot respond to lifestyle and
diet modifications.
• Irritable bowel syndrome is frequent but
hluctuating in general population. It is a
chronic symptoms are abdominal pain and
changes in bowel habits.
