Cyanide poisoning in ruminants typically results from the ingestion of cyanogenic plants containing glycosides. When the plants are chewed or digested, enzymes break down the glycosides to release hydrogen cyanide gas. Ruminants are particularly susceptible due to the breakdown of glycosides by microbes in the rumen. The cyanide gas interferes with cellular respiration, preventing oxygen use in tissues. Clinical signs of acute cyanide poisoning include respiratory distress, seizures, and sudden death. Exposure to certain plants, environmental stress on plants, and animal factors like rumen pH can increase the risk of cyanide toxicity in ruminants grazing on cyanogenic plants.

There is no effective treatment, in this case, culling is the most appropriate choice. Horizontal spread of disease does not occur. If chickens (DOC) were selected and culling, the other chickens will still grow well. The important thing is prudence in the culling and selection. Because not all of the sick chickens showing clinical symptoms are severe. Chicks with mild clinical symptoms are often not observed when culling performed. Then in this chicken, an additional infection can occur in the following days.

NMDA, a nitrosamine impurity called N-nitrosodimethylamine, classified as only a probable human carcinogen. It is a known environmental contaminant which is also found in water, foods, including meats, dairy products, and vegetables. Since 2018, FDA has been investigating & found NDMA in blood pressure and heart failure medicines, ARBs & had recommended recalls when discovered unacceptable levels of NDMA. FDA has set the acceptable daily intake limit for NDMA at 0.096 micrograms or 0.32 ppm for ranitidine in Nov 2019. FDA has tested numerous ranitidine products and found levels of NDMA similar to levels you would be exposed to if you ate common foods like grilled or smoked meats. Not all ranitidine may have NDMA. This may be a contaminant in manufacturing process which can be controlled. Also proven by FDA that NDMA is not formed after ranitidine has been exposed to acid in the stomach.
As per 2018 ICH Guidance M7(R1), if people consume 96nanogram of NDMA daily for 70 years, the probable risk of cancer would be 1 in 100,000 patients. Neither USFDA / EDQM / DCG(I) has called for recall of Ranitidine. They have asked for a voluntary recall only if NDMA found is more than permissible limits

The reason for the occurrence in heifers is still unanswered
It may be because of stress of calving particularly with udder edema and hormonal changes lead to activation of BHM virus and development of signs (Gibbs, 1984 ; Kemp et al., 2008 ; Martin, 1973; Sankaram and Kotayya, 1977).
The clinical condition was usually sporadic in occurrence within first two months of lactation in the heifers of first calving preferably in winter season with hind quarter infection (Mouli, 1992; Sharma et al., 1998 ; Sharma and Singh, 2006).
Oral electrolyte solutions or intravenous acetated Ringer's solution should be administered to ruminants with a blood pH greater than 7.20 but less than 7.45, and acetated Ringer's solution is preferred to lactated Ringer's solution. HS solution should be administered whenever rapid resuscitation is required.
Lumpy skin disease is an infectious, eruptive, occasionally fatal disease of cattle characterized by nodules on the skin and other parts of the body. Secondary bacterial infection often aggravates the condition. Traditionally, lumpy skin disease is found in southern and eastern Africa, but in the 1970s it extended northwest through the continent into subSaharan west Africa. Since 2000, it has spread to several countries of the Middle East and in 2013 extended west into Turkey and several countries in the Balkans. More recently, outbreaks of lumpy skin disease were reported for the first time in Georgia, Russia, Bangladesh, and the People's Republic of China. The recent geographic spread of lumpy skin disease has caused international concern. The disease has not been recorded in the Western hemisphere or in Australia or New Zealand.

harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied

❑The term “cyanides” is used to describe compounds which contain in their
structure the – C≡N group.
❑Different forms of Cyanide

of its acidic nature it’s also known as “prussic acid”

electroplating injury production, photography, plastics and rubber
manufacturing, and pesticides.
➢ Sodium nitroprusside, a medication used to treat a hypertensive
emergency, contains five cyanide groups per molecule.
➢ Toxic levels of cyanide may be present in patients who receive
prolonged infusions of sodium nitroprusside

3165 human exposures to cyanide from 1993 to 2002.
➢ Of that number, only 2.5% were fatal.

➢ Approximately 35% of all fire victims will have toxic levels of
cyanide in their blood on presentation for medical treatment.
➢ According to the National Poison Data System of a Poison Control
Centers annual report, there were 247 reported cases of chemical
exposures to cyanide in the United States in 2007, five of which were
fatal

Etiology
❑The primary cause of cyanide poisoning in ruminants is the ingestion of plants
containing cyanide-producing compounds called cyanogenic glycosides
❑At least 55 cyanogenic glycosides are known to occur in plants, many being
synthesized from amino acids as part of normal plant metabolism.

Pathogenesis
❑ Ingestion of plants that either constitutively contains cyanogenic glycosides or is
induced to produce cyanogenic glycosides and cyanolipids
❑ In normal cases the glycosides occur in vacuoles in plants tissue, whereas the
enzymes are found in the cytosol.
❑ When the edible parts of the plants are macerated, the catabolic intracellular
enzyme ß-glucosidase can be released, coming into contact with the glycosides.
❑ This enzyme hydrolyzes the cyanogenic glycosides to produce hydrogen cyanide
and glucose and ketones or benzaldehyde. The hydrogen cyanide is the major
toxic compound causing the toxic effects.

➢Behavioral changes have also been reported in goats following sub-lethal cyanide

interferes with neurotransmitter activity.
➢ Affected animals develop posterior ataxia, urinary incontinence, and cystitis
resulting from lower spinal cord degeneration.
➢ Kidney infection is a complicating factor in this cystitis.

➢Affected animals rarely survive more than 1-2 hours after consuming lethal

convulsions, coma, shock, respiratory failure and death.

▪For most Sorghum cultivars, stock should be allowed to graze them, or be fed
