Using mixed methods, the research found that household WASH conditions and behaviors are strongly influenced by the gender of the head of household, with female-headed households showing more positive WASH outcomes. However, women's ability to make decisions about household WASH needs depends on social support. Some societies support female genital mutilation as a punishment for women and girls or as a rite of passage into womanhood. In any case, female genital mutilation is a violation of basic human rights, according to UNICEF. The practice causes long-term psychological and physical discomfort in females. It also predisposes women to future complications after childbirth. Examples of these complications are early neonatal death and postpartum hemorrhage.
Through its Hεrε S’ra ("The Road to Happiness"), PMC disseminates information that reveals the negative impacts of female genital mutilation. The drama was first aired in Burkina Faso in September 2021, and it took almost two years to air the entire episodes. Many listeners agreed that genital mutilation is indeed a useless practice due to the drama.

Some societies support female genital mutilation as a punishment for women and girls or as a rite of passage into womanhood. In any case, female genital mutilation is a violation of basic human rights, according to UNICEF. The practice causes long-term psychological and physical discomfort in females. It also predisposes women to future complications after childbirth. Examples of these complications are early neonatal death and postpartum hemorrhage.
Through its Hεrε S’ra ("The Road to Happiness"), PMC disseminates information that reveals the negative impacts of female genital mutilation. The drama was first aired in Burkina Faso in September 2021, and it took almost two years to air the entire episodes. Many listeners agreed that genital mutilation is indeed a useless practice due to the drama.

This study examined the impact of government assistance programs on HIV testing rates among poor adults in the United States. The study found that participation in public assistance programs, especially Medicaid and human services programs, was associated with higher rates of HIV testing compared to poor adults not enrolled in these programs. However, testing rates still did not meet the 90% target proposed in the Ending the HIV Epidemic plan. Young adults (18-25) have the highest prevalence (29.4%) of any mental illness and the lowest rate of receiving mental health services (38.9%; NIMH). WSU CAPS provides Wayne State students with an online mental health screening opportunity. The numbers of screenings were of interest for this project.
COVID-19 has been shown to negatively impact students’ social and academic engagement, as a result, screening usage during the pandemic was expected to increase. Additionally, the literature on gender and racial/ethnic disparities in mental health service utilization suggest that screening tools may be used less by men and underrepresented minorities. We also expected gender and racial disparities in use, despite the anonymity provided by online screening.
We examined screening use during the pandemic from 3/15/2020 to 6/15/2021 in comparison with pre-pandemic use from 3/15/2018 to 6/15/2019. It is found that the rate of screening is slightly elevated during the pandemic. Secondly, the rate of screening use among different demographic groups, specifically racial/ethnic groups, and gender groups during the fall of 2020 was explored. Of the 897 screenings that were completed, White completed more than 50% of them. Black students were less likely to be screened (12.2% versus 14.8%, p < .01), as were Hispanic students (3.3% versus 5%, p < .001).
Surprisingly, Asian students were more likely to complete the screening (16% versus 10.2%, p < .001). Students who identified as male were highly underrepresented among those who completed the screenings (17.5% versus 40.7% of students).Hametz-ShenkFINALCapstone2016
This document summarizes a study on barriers to diabetes care in the Appalachian region. 27 participants were interviewed across two counties in West Virginia. 4 major themes emerged from the interviews related to barriers: 1) Lack of access to healthcare resources and education, 2) High rates of obesity, 3) Socioeconomic challenges like low income and lack of insurance, 4) Geographic isolation. The identical themes between counties suggest similar barriers may exist throughout Appalachia. The study used Leininger's theory of cultural care to guide ethnographic interviews and identify culturally appropriate ways to address diabetes in the region.

The Girl Scouts Campus Kitchen program seeks funding to bring The Campus Kitchens Project to East St. Louis through Girl Scout outreach programs. The program will have Girl Scouts prepare and deliver nutritious meals to community members using donated food. It aims to serve 100 people by January 2016 and educate 100 more about programs addressing food insecurity. The program coordinator will collaborate with schools and food sources to implement the kitchens and promote community meals.

Statistics According to the Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition of Jacksonville (ESHC) annual census and survey which measure the number and needs of homeless individuals in Duval County conducted on January 12, 2012: Demographic Characteristics of homeless: 69.7 percent of homeless were male Mean age was 40 years Six percent were Hispanic / Latino

Statistics Total counted: 2,861 adults and children homeless in Jacksonville Duval County: 2,533 Beaches: 72 Clay County: 244 Nassau County: 84 This is a 31.4 percent decrease from the previous point-in-time count Education and Employment of homeless: Almost two-thirds (61.3 percent) of the survey participants had a high school diploma/equivalency or higher Ten percent of the survey respondents were employed

Statistics Other Life Experiences Fourteen percent of the homeless individuals had served in the US military One out of ten of the United Way and survey participants had been in foster care One-fifth of the United Way and survey participants identified themselves as a survivor or victim of domestic violence Health Over half (56.4 percent) of the United Way and survey participants claimed to have at least one disabling condition Over half (56.1 percent) of the survey participants believed they were at least in “good” health Assessment of Needs Top 3 needs identified: Housing/Shelter – 70.6 percent Job – 45.4 percent Medical – 33.7 percent Food/Meals – 29.1 percent

Strategies Use commercial to appeal to all viewers Show on local news stations Upload to YouTube Reach the younger generation (20’s-30’s) Facebook page for Hunger Hurts Twitter page for Hunger Hurts Allow for volunteer hours to be accredited for college Include homeless community Advertise to the various homeless shelters about our Outreach event Distribute wrist bands in homeless shelters
