Summary Of Predictions And Probability By Sue Mcmmillen
In Elementary school, students are unaware of the predictions and probabilities they make on a
daily basis. However, when teachers explain predictions and probability in mathematics classes,
most students leave their reasoning behind in hopes of finding the correct and exact answer to
questions. In the article, Predictions and Probabilityauthor Sue McMillen provides readers with
open ended investigations to help teachers with their mathematics lesson plans dealing with
probability and predictions. The open ended investigations McMillen offers to readers builds
problem solving and reasoning skills, communication skills, as well as teaching students to connect
math concepts and principles to real world problems. The author also explained

Tattoos Can Harm Perceptions Analysis
Tattoos might look cool but they can cause some difficulties later on in life. People automatically
make assumptions about someone covered in body art. Not to mention, many employers do not
want their customers to get the wrong idea about their company. Overall because body ink is not
widely accepted people aiming to get one should really think about it.
Tattoos can change how someone sees you no matter how cool you think they look. In the article
Tattoos Can Harm Perceptions: A Study and Suggestions , by Annette Resenhoeft states participants
rated her in more negative terms than when she was described as not having a tattoo . What she s
talking about is a study where participants were given a description of someone with and without
a tattoo. They concluded that people with tattoos get judged more negatively than those without.

Chapter 12 Assessing International Markets
Chapter 12 Assessing International Markets 4. Do a country s imports completely measure the
market potential for a product? Why or why not? A country s imports only partially measure the
market potential for a product. A product might be imported with the intention to sell at stores
like Target Stores, but because of various reasons, the product may not have done well in those
markets and ended up in liquidation and sold at a Dollar Store. Reasons such as poor marketing
efforts, lack of foreign exchange may have made it difficult to initiate a roll out of the product, the
expense of transportation of the product as well as duties and the inevitable markups that imports
incur (304). There are other variables that can affect reports of... Show more content on

Dysfunctional Families
Dysfunctional families breed dysfunctional children. This can stay with them all the way up to
their marriage and is most likely to occur in their relationship. According to research done by the
University of Chicago ( published in the journal of Abnormal Child Psychology) social skills
can be interpreted as everything from the basic please and thank you to speaking in large
crowds. How parents deal with that is just as important for the child as the violence they are
being exposed to. In the end, they both affect the child one way or another. Part of the Brain The
brain is the central control system for the entire body. It is made up of many parts, but there is a
very important part of the brain, in this case would be the Visual Cortex the part of the brain

watching a horror movie. (US National Library of Medicine) gives me information on how the
visual cortex works in the midst of viewing horror movies. Dopamine (a neurotransmitter released

Compare And Contrast Essay On The Hobbit
The Hobbit was a novel which revolved around the Lord of the Rings trilogy. J. R. R. Tolkien
wrote this book as an aid to his PTSD. This novel was loosely based on the Medieval Times,
from the Anglo Saxon and Scandinavian works. The narrative followed around a group of people
on a quest to take the treasure of Smaug. There are many important components of each story.
These include its plot, themes, or setting. In this essay, I will be explaining the similarities and
differences between the three races of The Hobbit. The first topic of discussion will be the
comparison of the race s physical traits. These physical traits allow a reader to visualize
characters. It also gives the reader to make their own judgements of a race based on appearance.
In the terms of height, the hobbits and dwarves are shorter than an average human. The hobbits
... wear no shoes... thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads... (2, Ch. 1) This race also
loves peace, quiet, and a good tilled earth. The dwarves, however, are stocky and tough. An
average dwarf grows a long bread on their faces and wear heavy cloaks. Verification for this
account is, It was a dwarf with a blue beard tucked into a golden belt, very bright eyes under his
dark green hood. (7, Ch. 1). They are very strong from their continuous work in the mines.
Dwarves worked in mines and caverns to acquire the many gems needed for their crafting. The
dwarves also had experience in fighting wars with other races. Elves are a

Star Formation Research Paper
Stars
Introduction
Those stars in the night sky seem small and tiny, but up close they would be millions of times
larger than the Earth. Stars are the most recognized astronomical objects and are the building
blocks of the galaxies. These luminous spheres made of plasma are responsible for the creation of
heavy elements like carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen. They were among the first objects in the early
universe. Most of the elements found in the human body originated in stars, this means that we
are literally made of stardust. When you are staring at stars from the night sky, you are actually
looking back in time, the light you see could be from a million years ago. The study of the birth,
life and death of stars are the central field of astronomy today.

Well, the collision of 2 black holes as never been observed hear on Earth. The galaxy NGC 6240 is
a super galaxy formed by the collision of 2 smaller galaxies. Since every galaxy has a
supermassive black hole at the center of it, the NGC 6240 galaxy has 2 black holes at the center.
Scientists are predicting that someday these two black holes would collide. There are two
different outcomes of 2 black holes colliding. The first one is that if the 2 black holes are
spinning at very high speeds and come together at just the right angle, the smaller black hole will
be slingshotted away from the bigger black hole and sent hurtling through space. The second,
more likely outcome is that they will slowly come closer and closer together until they can t
escape each others gravity and eventually become one, when this happens the resulting black hole
is known as a Binary Black Hole. The energy emitted from the collision would be so great it
would send ripples through the space time fabric of the Universe. These ripples are known as

My Rifle Research Paper
I have got very many gifts and a bunch of unique, special gifts. This unreal item was a .308
caliber rifle. It was such an outrage of excitement as my parents were giving it to me. Three
aspects of the gun stood out to me it had a great design to it, the size of the caliber, and the size
of the gun itself. The design was an option of my choice, I had always wanted a rifle like this one.
My rifle, in my opinion, has one of the most distinctive designs for a rifle. Starting at the stock of
the gun, it was sleek, natural camouflage , synthetic stock. As you go up the gun, you arrive at
the metal parts, and this matte finish of black really matched the stock, which gave it my
attention as I focused on it at first glance. The barrel, at the peak of the gun adjacent to the
opening system, was thick, so if I was to shoot multiple times in a row the barrel wouldn t warp
after constant heating through the violent explosion of the cartridge as the bullets races through
the end of the barrel. On the other hand, the bullet measurements were just as important. At the
time I was given the gun, I wasn t very old or strong. If I was too have received this rifle in any
caliber bigger than .308 I wouldn t have been able to shoot it. On the other side, the deer I was to be

The Effect Of Solar And On Earth
Most solar storms produce a variety of effects on our planet. The intensity of a solar storm
increase gradually, the storm can begin to develop the capacity to create a major disaster on
Earth. The variety of intensity of solar storm is like the difference between being hit with a
tropical rainstorm and being devastated by a Category 5 hurricane. Oak Ridge National
Laboratories estimated that only a solar storm just slightly stronger than the 13 March 1989 storm
would have the capacity to produce a cascading blackout involving the entire Northeastern sector
of the United States and other effect on the terrestrial biological systems. So the question is what
are the components of Solar Flares? How does it cause damages? What are they? Are there any
measures to mitigate the risks? This paper dissects and analyzes the various threats created by
Great solar storms and provide some Theorell experiences and research details that entail the
phenomena and its effects.
Solar Flares:
Definition and Impacts Introduction
Solar storms consist of three major components: solar flares, solar proton events (SPEs) and
coronal mass ejections (CMEs). CMEs can interact with Earth s magnetic field to produce a
geomagnetic storm. Not all solar storms produce all three elements but the largest solar storms tend
to. (James. A Maruesk 2007) Recent scientific information indicates that an extreme solar storm
cycle activity producing Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GIC) is predicted to

Organizational Culture:
Business dictionary defines Organizational Culture as the values and behaviors that contribute to
the unique social and psychological environment of an organization . It can also be seen as the
values that show people what is appropriate and what is not (Becker, 2006).
Lincoln Electric:
Founded in 1865 by John C. Lincoln, the company is known in today s world for its high worker
productivity. The secret behind this extra ordinary success lies in the company s founding
philosophies and established policies over the year. The term Organizational Culture was not even
in practice when the company established its unique policies like reducing working hours, paid up
life insurance, health benefits, social activities, paid vacations, and the pension plans. These
measures not only motivated the employees but also helped build trust and partisanship. In

Humans Have The Highest Iq
Humans have the highest IQ; but animals have vastly more commonsense. How so? Let s consider
various settings, starting with one we all share time and space.
TIME SPACE
Wake Up: Animals will wake up when their biological clocks tell them it s time to wake up.
Humans wake up when the alarm clock rings!
Going to Sleep: Animals go to sleep when their biological clocks tell them to go to sleep (including
catnaps). Humans go to sleep after their favourite TV program finishes, like the late, late show!
Humans push the boundaries and often refuse to rest even when their bodies tell them it s desirable.
An afternoon catnap ultimately increases productivity, but how many workplaces encourage
napping (even briefly) on the job?

Humans however will often try to possess and rule over as much territory, property, as possible,
sometimes for economic (investment) reasons; often for sheer power for the sake of power.
Humans are rarely satisfied with what they control they always want more and More and MORE.
[See also: Domination]
MATTER ENERGY
Possessions: Animals have no urge to acquire things, other than that required for survival (like
building a nest or storing away food for the winter). Humans well, what s the expression, keeping
up with the Jones family or shop till you drop !
FILL WHAT S EMPTY
Eating #1: Wild animals, who don t know when and where their next meal might come from, will
make hay while the sun shines. Humans, even when they know where and when their next meal
comes from, will still over indulge, especially on certain festive or special occasions. [See also:

Eating #2: An animal, assuming food is available, will eat when it is hungry a natural state of
affairs. A humanwill eat according to a schedule, at fixed times, when the dining room is open,
when the office clock and the boss says go to lunch now , regardless of need an artificial (phoney)

Global Warming Is An Important Problem
Global warming is an important problem which people all the world need to solve and prevent
the affected of global warming. We just saw a small affected right now, but for a long time, it
will take your life away. Why don t we should do something to save the earth as save our life?
One person can do nothing but a group of people can make different and change the world. We can
do the small things from home, but it also helps us save the earth. Firstly, I think we should create
an organization to called SOE (Save Our Earth). Then, we really the cooperation of everybody,
we will make a poster and flyer to propaganda every one knew about the organization and join
with us. My drawing is the poster of organization. As we can see in the poster, the Earth very
angry with the people, also we have a slogan on it SAVE THE EARTH . Its means that the earth
is an emergency status and really need help from people. Below of the slogan is a image of the
earth is sickness. Their color of land is not like before. We can imagine that how people
destroyed the earth. In addition, I was drawing some icon like recycle symbol and solar energy.
The symbols want to remind people should using the recycle product and every house should using
solar energy. So, we can save the environment and help reduce pollution. The poster has a lots
meaning, when people saw the poster. They can understand what they need to do right now. The
organization will print the poster and stick up these crowded places, so

Risk Of Skin Cancer In Tanning Beds
Sharon Miller is the author of this article and is part of FDA. In this article she discusses how
each type of uv rays damage the skin and which uv ray is used in tanning beds. This is relevant
to my topic because it demonstrates the risk of skin cancer. Many people think tanning gives
them a ВЁhealthyВЁ glow, but in reality a tan is a sign on skin damage. UV B rays burn the top
layer of skin resulting in a sunburn in most cases. UV A rays burn into a deeper layer of the skin
causing a rash to appear. Tanning beds emit UV B rays and UV A rays, which is why you tend to
get a sunburn before turning dark. The UV B rays cause your body to emit more melanin, which is
a pigment that darkens the skin. This is why we get tan in the summer whether it

Essay on The Decline of Indentures Servitude
The decline of indentured servitude and the rise of chattel slavery were caused by economic
factors of the English settlers in the late 17th century. Colonists continually tried to allure laborers
to the colony. The head right system was to give the indentured servant a method of becoming
independent after a number of years of service. Colonists chiefly relied on Indentured Servitude,
in order to facilitate their need for labor. The decreasing population combined with a need for a
labor force, led colonists to believe that African slaves were the most efficient way to acquire a
labor force that would satisfy their needs.
Before the 1680 s, indentured servitude was the primary source of labor in the newly developed
colonies. There were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Africans were economically better, due to British control of the slave trade making black labor

In the 1600 s, tobacco became the main source of income for most of the colonists. The
economic prosperity of the colonies was primarily dependent on the amount of tobacco
produced. The growing of tobacco needed large amount of land, with a large stable work force. The
increased demand for a large, stable work force combined with the availability and low price of
African slaves, led to the use of slavery in the colonies. To the planter, slavery was the ideal form
of labor that would be most beneficial to productivity of his crop.#
The key factor to the shift to African chattel slavery was the revolt known as Bacon s Rebellion
in 1676. Bacon was an English aristocrat who just came to Virginia Due to a disagreement with
royal governor William Berkeley, he gathered support from both white and black indentured
servants and began a series of revolts against the governor and the landowners. These revolts just
added to the preference for black labor and slavery. Even though Bacon died before anything
could happen, the threat of such a biracial alliance challenging the power of the master class
prompted the colony s elite to switch to an enslaved black labor force. The demand for black
slaves rose and this caused an increase of Africans into the colonies. By the 1700 s, slavery was
deep rooted in the colonies government.#

I chose to read The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks as my contemporary novel. I have read it
before and I have seen the movie and i loved them both. I was really glad to finally read
something i enjoyed and have to write a paper on it. In the following paragraphs i summarize
both the book and the movie, talk about differences and similarities between the book and the
movie, and finally i discuss how i felt about the book and the movie and which i prefer. The
following is a summary of the book. It is about a man named Logan, a Marine serving in Iraq,
who comes across a photograph in the desert. The photograph is of a woman at a fair with a
huge ferris wheel and three trees in the background and on the back it says, Keep safe! E .
Logan s best friend, Victor, a fellow Marine, says that he was meant to find that photograph and
that it brings him good luck, after Logan tries to find out who is belongs to with no luck and
after Logan survives many explosions while having the photo with him. So when Logan returns
home, he sets out to find the woman, at Victor s suggestion. All he has is a letter of her name
and the background of the photo to go off of. After doing some research he finally narrows it
down to a town in North Carolina. He heads out with his dog, a german shepard named Zeus, on
foot across the country, traveling from Colorado to North Carolina. While traveling, he runs into a
cop named Keith, who he later finds out is the ex husband of the girl in the picture. Logan

Lung Cancer
The Genetics of Lung Cancer

Cancer can be one of the hardest battles that one must face, whether that battle is lost or won, it
changes the lives of everyone involved. Lung cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers and it
affects the lining of the lungs and the ability to breathe. Lung cancer is the number one killer of men
and women than any other cancer worldwide. This cancer is mostly found in smokers and this is
why professionals are targeting this population for testing for diagnosing early and possibly saving
a life (www.ncb.nlm.nih.gov). Lung cancer refers to the malignancies that originate in the airways

According to the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) the researchers
identified a large region on human chromosome 6 that conferred greater lung cancer risk in
families with many affected individuals. Subsequent painstaking analysis to pinpoint the source
of the elevated risk now has paid off with the identification of the precise culprit, a gene called
RGS17. Researchers conducted fine mapping of the suspect region of chromosome 6 in
members of families in which five or more individuals over multiple generations were diagnosed
with lung cancer. The region contains approximately 100 genes. Precise computational analysis
uncovered similar variants in the DNA sequence for members of the families with lung cancer.
These variants, called single nucleotide polymorphisms (or SNPS) directed the researchers to the
RGS17 gene. The conclusions of this analysis are that RGS17 plays a major role in lung cancer
susceptibility, and individuals who carry the higher risk version of this gene have an increased
susceptibility to lung cancer when exposed to environmental risk factors, such as smoking. While
the research showed that RGS17 is an important gene for lung cancer susceptibility in families with
a high incidence of lung cancer, the researchers did not see any

The Credibility Of Cascadia s Earthquake
Careful of Cascadia
In the next 50 years, the Cascadia fault will slip and the government would not even bat an eye if

Washington and Oregon. Roughly every 550 years, the strain is released from the plates rubbing
against each other and the fault slips; the west coast of the North American Plate suddenly slides
westward over the Juan de Fuca plate, causing a megathrust inland. And as a result, a huge tsunami
would race against the Pacific and affect Japan in dreadful ways. Scientists have been debating

John Steinbeck s use of imagery shows the use of confinement by relating Elisa to the

When Elisa leaves her garden in the wire fence she loses all her strengths and confidence. The
theme uses confinement in The Chrysanthemums when it talks about the fog at the beginning. It

turn of the century, so as the US economy. US economy has proved to be raised dramatically in the
past few years. This made me think about Immigration and the US economy on a same page in my
mind. Many questions started populating in my head such as Does immigrationin some way affect
the US economy? If yes, how? After doing some research, I found that Immigration plays an
important role in the US economy. I ll start with my own background, how this question is
connected to me and what other people think about immigration. Next, I ll talk about my research
findings and the unexpected answers I got to my question. Are those answers same as people s

immigration on the US economy before concluding my essay.
Background:
I, myself is an immigrant and I know the struggle it takes to immigrate to the other country.
Presently, when we talk about immigrants, the few things that comes in our mind are terrorism,
illegal immigrants and they are the people who steal our jobs. Is that the real meaning of
immigrants? The point where this issue strikes me was, Does Immigration have only negative
impacts on the US economy? Why does media always portray immigration as a bad thing for the
US economy? We often believe things in a way in which media wants us to. Between 2000 and

Major Drug Companies Taking Hefty Price Increases Essay
NEW YORK (Reuters) Major drug companies took hefty price increases in the U.S., in some
cases more than doubling listed charges, for widely used medications over the past five years, a
Reuters analysis of proprietary data found.
Prices for four of the nation s top 10 drugs increased more than 100 percent since 2011, Reuters
found. Six others went up more than 50 percent. Together, the priceincreases on drugs for arthritis,
high cholesterol, asthma and other common problems added billions in costs for consumers,
employers and government health programs.
Extraordinary price hikes by two small companies, Turing Pharmaceuticals and Valeant
Pharmaceuticals International Inc , drew new attention to drug costs. Turing expected to book $200
million by raising the price of Daraprim, an antiparasitic used for a rare infection, by 5,000 percent,
according to company documents released by Congressional investigators.
Routine price increases by bigger players may draw less attention, but they add up. Sales for the
top 10 drugs went up 44 percent to $54 million in 2014, from 2011, even though prescriptions for
the medications dropped 22 percent, according to IMS Health data.
At the top of the list was AbbVie Inc , which raised the price of arthritis drug Humira more than 126
percent, Reuters found. Next were Amgen Inc and Teva Pharmaceutical IndustriesLtd , which
raised prices for arthritis treatment Enbrel and multiple sclerosis drug Copaxone by 118 percent.

What Is The Unequal Sharing Of Electrons In Nuclear Molecules
Chapter 2: The Chemistry and Energy of Life
Concept 2.1
What is the arrangement of protons, neutrons, and electrons in an atom? An equal amount of
protons and neutrons are placed together in the center of the atom. The nucleus contains the protons
and neutrons. Electrons are surrounded on the outside rings of the atom.
According to the octet rule, what would be the simplest way for a sodium atom to achieve electron
stability? A sodium atom only has one valence electron. So, the best way to achieve electron
stability is to bond with a halogen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Explain why or why not. Generally, the neutron determines its chemical stability, although in the
case of deuterium the isotope remains stable. This is because there is insignificant mass difference
between protons and neutrons.
Concept 2.2
How do differences in electronegativity result in the unequal sharing of electrons in polar
molecules? A molecule containing an atom with high electronegativity will be more polar than a
molecule containing an atom with a lower electronegativity. The higher the electronegativity the
more insatiable the atom becomes when it comes to sharing.
For each of the following, is it a Hydrogen bond donor, acceptor, both, or neither? Aldehyde is a
hydrogen bond acceptor. Amino is a hydrogen bond acceptor and donor. Hydroxyl is both a
hydrogen bond donor and acceptor.
What are the functional groups on this molecule? What is the R group to which they are attached?
Is the R group hydrophilic or hydrophobic?

Compare And Contrast College Football And Pro Football
Many of the fans think college football is better than pro football, but I think this is not true. Each
of the programs have differences and we should respect this, but they also have similarities as well.
They also have rules which the players have to follow. Although the penalties are severe, the nfl and
collegefootball, have the same rules which many of the players think are fair. Also, many of the
players respect the history behind it and encourage other players to do the same.
Many of the rules which are the same are significant and should be followed by both the pro
football players and the college players. Holding penalties for the defence are both ten yards from

When a team and another team tie the game, they have what is called overtime. In this period, the
first team who scores a touchdown before the other team does, wins the game. Both teams have
three timeouts, and has a chance to touch the football and try to score a touchdown. This situation
is led off of a coin flip which decides what team gets the football first.
There are some similarities about the stadiums which host the team who is playing another(away)
team. Most stadiums have a hall of fame or a historic piece of history which stands today. Many
of these stadiums are very expensive and many are asking why they have the stadiums in the first
place. The length of each football field are one hundred yards and have two end zones, which you
get points when one person walks or runs into it.
Next, is the differences. One of the differences is about the rules. One of the rules is when the
players take drugs when the doctor did not prescribe it to them, it is an offence. The penalty for
college is ban for more than three games, and for pro football, it is four or more games. Many of
the pro football players get paid and the college football players do not get paid at all, because they
are in school and they can t do anything to get paid for just playing

Executive Summary
BrewDog is a company that has gone from strength to strength in its short time since establishment.
The company has been experiencing rapid growth over the past several years. Through extracting
the relevant information from a SWOT analysis on the company, I will look at BrewDog s strengths
and opportunities, leading to analysis of competition, barriers to entry and the threat of substitutes
in proposed future markets. Through this I will show what growth methods are not suitable for the
company, and conclude with my recommendation that simultaneous expansion of the UK and
foreign markets are the most viable growth prospects for the company. I will provide analysis and
discussion to show the validity of this. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.2 Opportunities
The opportunities for BrewDog are vast and include continuing to expand on its recent trend of
opening BrewDog pubs and bars across the UK, and taking the business global on a larger scale
than it currently is. The company already exports to over 30 countries worldwide (McCulloch,
2013) and although this is of course proving profitable, the intentions of BrewDog in terms of
expansion are focussed mainly on opening new establishments. The company currently has eleven
open bars in Scotland and England, with a flag ship store in Shoreditch, London. Eleven bars is not
a massive amount, particularly looking at the success of the ones they currently have. Although
expansion abroad is no doubt a high priority, it cannot be ignored that BrewDog bars are not present
in Northern Ireland, although the beers are available there for purchase in other establishments and
stores. This is an opportunity for expansion.
The matter of global expansion of the pubs is one that BrewDog seem very interested in, and
understandably so. As mentioned, BrewDog already exports to around 30 different markets, and as
such has a customer base around the world already. An opportunity for growth is to enter the
German market, where the craft beer market is large,

Another important thing learned from the documentary film that I would like to outline here is that
for the first time a documentary based on drugs, crime and law enforcement actually places its plot

perceptions and actions that they take against people involved in drugs and the overall decision

Summary Of Animating Revolt
We have grown up watching tons of animated movies finding them so entertaining. But we may
have not realized that these movies have shaped us and helped us grow into who we are today.
These movies have shaped us to help us face social issues, regular life problems, independence,
having empathy and more. This is a process called animating revolt in which Judith Halberstam
touches upon in her essay called Animating Revolt and Revolting Animation. She analyzes and
finds this process in many Pixar films.

I believe that this underlies with a lot of points such as nature, overuse of technology, and the
environment. In the movie, Wall e is trying to save the planet by cleaning up the environment so
humans can come back and live on it. This relates in today s society with how people recycle and
people do community work to keep the environment clean, people care for earth and they try to
keep it sanitary so it won t get polluted or things like that. Another example from Wall e, would be
with the overuse of technology. When Wall e goes to Axiom he sees all the obese people and
this is basically what the technology did to them. Technology did everything for them resulting in
them becoming obese, since they had to do no work. I also find this relatable to today s society
because people are obsessed with technology now a days. People are always on their phone, tablet,
computer etc. At the rate of how things are going, we could end up like Wall e s situation. Children
should see that since they re the next generation, well they can have fun with technology but not
overuse it because they wouldn t want the planet to end up like it did in the

Hazardous Train Systems
Heavy rail systems in the United States, and around the world, face a number of hazards and
vulnerabilities. For example, the Movement of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) represents a
potential environmental or chemical hazard if an accident were to occur. The 2013 Lac MГ©gantic
rail disaster exemplify this hazard. Although the trainrolled down a very slight (~1 2%) incline, the
devastation that followed was more representative of a bomb being dropped on the town rather
than a rail accident. This is, of course, an extreme instance, however, even the lesser hazards, for
example trespassing, can lead to disastrous consequences. One of the hazards faced by heavy rail
systems is there sheer size. Often consisting of several locomotives... Show more content on

Many procedures are in place to address the dangers surrounding hazardous cargo. For example,
placarding rail cars to identify contents and requiring the train s crews to carry the Material Safety
Data Sheets (MSDS) assist first responders in identifying the material in the event of an accident.
A second concern security plans must address is theft of hazardous material when a train is
parked. What prevents someone from stealing or releasing chlorine gas when a train, like the one
in Lac Megantic, is left running and unattended? Terrorists learned how to fly passenger aircraft so
it isn t beyond the realm of possibility that they are learning how to operate freight trains. These are
both serious security concerns that must be address. Again, referencing the Lac Megantic accident,
it appears the LE began his duty day at 1355 and concluded it at 2330, just 25 minutes short of a 10
hour day. This may seem insignificant, but when we consider that his duty day was primarily at
night and he was operating the train alone, these would be considered contributing, but not causal,
factors resulting in the accident. In this case, security planners might address this vulnerability by
dictating that trains operated after sunset have two crew members or limit the total duty day to 8

domesticated region of England finds himself in a less sociable area. My impression is that
Lockwood is interested about the people and about the setting, he wishes to learn more about them

I felt interested in a man who seemed more exaggeratedly reserved than myself.
Once Lockwood has been granted permission, grudgingly by Heathcliff, he enters his house. He

Criticism Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales

who hope to be successful will write poetry and short stories in the same style that he, himself

gives him the right to control another s work of art? He was, without a doubt, an arrogant

that deals with murder and guilt. The narrator kills a man because he doesn t like his eye, chops
him up and hides him under the floorboards. There is nothing to misinterpret in this story; the
narrator is a crazy and dangerous man. This leads to the climax, where the narrator starts feeling
guilt for killing the old man. He starts to believe he can hear the man s heart through the

Power Factor Correction Using Boost Converters For Single...
POWER FACTOR CORRECTION USING BOOST CONVERTERS IN SINGLE PHASE DIODE
BRIDGE RECTIFIERS Shrinivas Reddy Dept. of EEE,PDACEG, GULBARGA
Abstract
The development of power electronic converters is marked by demands for a simultaneous
reduction in Size , losses and power related costs. Historically diode bridge rectifiers with a laSrge
capacitor at the dc bus have been used to convert the ac voltage to a dc voltage. But diode bridge
rectifiers draw a very high peak current from the ac utility, which is rich in harmonics and thus
gives a very poor power factor. Modern AC DC power supplies utilize power factor correction in
order to minimize the harmonics in the input current drawn fiom the utility. The Boost topology is
the most popular topology used for power factor correction today. In this paper, power factor
correction using boost converters in single phase diode bridge rectifiers is presented.
1. Introduction
In recent years, conversion of ac line voltages from utilities has been dominated by using a single
phase diode rectifier followed by a single switch boost stage. Designers have embraced the
usefulness of this topology since it draws a sinusoidal input current and maintains a unity input
power factor under varying load

Reflection On Colors
I have been really focusing on colors for past 4 years, almost one fourth of my entire life. I
believe that each of different colors can change someone s life. It sounds unreal, almost. Well,
there is someone who got affected by colors. It s me. In fact, I was not always interested in colors
until Eighth Grade. I used to be a person who did not focus on colors in everyday life, just like
most people do, but now I care colors so much because of situations I have experienced.
Thankfully, everything in the world has a color, and it used for many different purposes. Human
eyes can see many different colors because they are very sensitive. For me, the color is something
that impacts and changes my state and thoughts. I love looking at colors because it supports the
words I am saying and gives me many different moods. I remember the times that I realized how
much colors impact on me.
When I was in eighth grade in South Korea, I got a chance to visit DMZ, or 38th parallel. DMZ
stands for the Demilitarized Zone, where it divides Korea into a half. While I was in DMZ, I
felt like I was in 1970s. South Koreans lived in DMZ, but it was a lonesome place. When I came
back to school, my teacher wanted me to explain the difference between North Korea, DMZ, and
South Korea, and I could not find ways to explain. Suddenly, I thought of colors, only because
they were simple. Then, I immediately started to color the south side of Korea as Blue, North as
Red , and DMZ as Light Purple. I said that Red indicates the communism and blood. Blue as a
peace, and Purple as a confusion. Everyone can guess Red as something about violence, and
Blue is something about peace. However, people don t know what Purple describes because it can
be anything. Purple is certainly the mixture of Red and Blue, but people don t go deeper. I said
light Purple because DMZ was a very clean place. The word confusion came to my mind, because I
was confused if I saw DMZ as more of South side or North side, and I used it to explain the
meaning of colors to my teacher. It was a total success! That s how I started to use them to support
my opinion. (I use color to to give a detail often)

Illegal Drugs Are Not Used For Medicinal Purposes
1.Briefly describe the issue (risk taking behaviour)
Illicit drugs are drugs that are not used for medicinal purposes. They are addictive which means that
a person craves, seeks and continues to use them despite the harmful consequences.
2.Discuss reasons that may influence individuals to engage in this behaviour.
People generally take illicit drugs to feel good or feel better than they felt before. This feeling of
pleasure or high is what a person gets from taking a drug with large and rapid increases of
dopamine. Dopamine is a chemical formed in the brain when we get the feeling of something we
enjoy for example, listening to music and being with friends. Taking illicit drugs causes a much

When a person engages in taking, smoking or sniffing illegal drugs there are many risks involved.
A person can never be sure of exactly what they are taking, it is unlikely that they know exactly
what s the contents may be and it is impossible to tell the strength of the drug. The greater the
amount of the drug taken the greater the risk a person is at having a fatal overdose, panic attacks,
psychotic behaviour and disturbing experiences. The effects of the drug are never certain and
even if the consumer has taken a drug before the effects can be different each time. Mixing
different types of drugs and drugs with alcohol also has extremely dangerous effects. If needles,
syringes or other injecting equipment is shared there is a high risk of infections being spread for
example, HIV and Hepatitis. Injecting can also damage the veins.
There are three different types of drugs sedative, stimulant and Hallucinogenic. Sedative drugs for
example alcohol and heroin have an effect that slows the body and brain function down and may
cause a person to feel very drowsy if a sufficient amount is taken. This can also lead to fatal
overdose if too much is taken. Drugs such as amphetamine, cocaine, crack and ecstasy have a
stimulant effect that can produce anxiety or panic attacks, especially when taken in large amounts.
They are also highly dangerous for people with blood

Reasons such as poor marketing efforts, lack of foreign exchange may have made it difficult to initiate a roll out of the product, the expense of transportation of the product as well as duties and the inevitable markups that imports incur (304). • 7. Compare And Contrast Essay On The Hobbit The Hobbit was a novel which revolved around the Lord of the Rings trilogy. J. R. R. Tolkien wrote this book as an aid to his PTSD. This novel was loosely based on the Medieval Times, from the Anglo Saxon and Scandinavian works. The narrative followed around a group of people on a quest to take the treasure of Smaug. There are many important components of each story. These include its plot, themes, or setting. In this essay, I will be explaining the similarities and differences between the three races of The Hobbit. The first topic of discussion will be the comparison of the race s physical traits. These physical traits allow a reader to visualize characters. It also gives the reader to make their own judgements of a race based on appearance. In the terms of height, the hobbits and dwarves are shorter than an average human. The hobbits ... wear no shoes... thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads... (2, Ch. 1) This race also loves peace, quiet, and a good tilled earth. The dwarves, however, are stocky and tough. An average dwarf grows a long bread on their faces and wear heavy cloaks. Verification for this account is, It was a dwarf with a blue beard tucked into a golden belt, very bright eyes under his dark green hood. (7, Ch. 1). They are very strong from their continuous work in the mines. Dwarves worked in mines and caverns to acquire the many gems needed for their crafting. Stars are the most recognized astronomical objects and are the building blocks of the galaxies. Most of the elements found in the human body originated in stars, this means that we are literally made of stardust. When you are staring at stars from the night sky, you are actually looking back in time, the light you see could be from a million years ago. The galaxy NGC 6240 is a super galaxy formed by the collision of 2 smaller galaxies. There are two different outcomes of 2 black holes colliding. The first one is that if the 2 black holes are spinning at very high speeds and come together at just the right angle, the smaller black hole will be slingshotted away from the bigger black hole and sent hurtling through space. The second, more likely outcome is that they will slowly come closer and closer together until they can t escape each others gravity and eventually become one, when this happens the resulting black hole is known as a Binary Black Hole. • 9. My Rifle Research Paper I have got very many gifts and a bunch of unique, special gifts. This unreal item was a .308 caliber rifle. It was such an outrage of excitement as my parents were giving it to me. Three aspects of the gun stood out to me it had a great design to it, the size of the caliber, and the size of the gun itself. The design was an option of my choice, I had always wanted a rifle like this one. My rifle, in my opinion, has one of the most distinctive designs for a rifle. Starting at the stock of the gun, it was sleek, natural camouflage , synthetic stock. As you go up the gun, you arrive at the metal parts, and this matte finish of black really matched the stock, which gave it my attention as I focused on it at first glance. The barrel, at the peak of the gun adjacent to the opening system, was thick, so if I was to shoot multiple times in a row the barrel wouldn t warp after constant heating through the violent explosion of the cartridge as the bullets races through the end of the barrel. On the other hand, the bullet measurements were just as important. At the time I was given the gun, I wasn t very old or strong. If I was too have received this rifle in any caliber bigger than .308 I wouldn t have been able to shoot it. On the other side, the deer I was to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This paper dissects and analyzes the various threats created by Great solar storms and provide some Theorell experiences and research details that entail the phenomena and its effects. Solar Flares: Definition and Impacts Introduction Solar storms consist of three major components: solar flares, solar proton events (SPEs) and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). CMEs can interact with Earth s magnetic field to produce a geomagnetic storm. Not all solar storms produce all three elements but the largest solar storms tend to. (James. Essay on The Decline of Indentures Servitude The decline of indentured servitude and the rise of chattel slavery were caused by economic factors of the English settlers in the late 17th century. Colonists continually tried to allure laborers to the colony. The head right system was to give the indentured servant a method of becoming independent after a number of years of service. Colonists chiefly relied on Indentured Servitude, in order to facilitate their need for labor. The decreasing population combined with a need for a labor force, led colonists to believe that African slaves were the most efficient way to acquire a labor force that would satisfy their needs. The increased demand for a large, stable work force combined with the availability and low price of African slaves, led to the use of slavery in the colonies. To the planter, slavery was the ideal form of labor that would be most beneficial to productivity of his crop.# The key factor to the shift to African chattel slavery was the revolt known as Bacon s Rebellion in 1676. Bacon was an English aristocrat who just came to Virginia Due to a disagreement with royal governor William Berkeley, he gathered support from both white and black indentured servants and began a series of revolts against the governor and the landowners. These revolts just added to the preference for black labor and slavery. Even though Bacon died before anything could happen, the threat of such a biracial alliance challenging the power of the master class prompted the colony s elite to switch to an enslaved black labor force. The demand for black slaves rose and this caused an increase of Africans into the colonies. Subsequent painstaking analysis to pinpoint the source of the elevated risk now has paid off with the identification of the precise culprit, a gene called RGS17. Researchers conducted fine mapping of the suspect region of chromosome 6 in members of families in which five or more individuals over multiple generations were diagnosed with lung cancer. The region contains approximately 100 genes. Precise computational analysis uncovered similar variants in the DNA sequence for members of the families with lung cancer. These variants, called single nucleotide polymorphisms (or SNPS) directed the researchers to the RGS17 gene. The conclusions of this analysis are that RGS17 plays a major role in lung cancer susceptibility, and individuals who carry the higher risk version of this gene have an increased susceptibility to lung cancer when exposed to environmental risk factors, such as smoking. While the research showed that RGS17 is an important gene for lung cancer susceptibility in families with a high incidence of lung cancer, the researchers did not see any ... He encounters an incident with some of Heathcliff s dogs, although Heathcliff did warn him about them, to which he pulls faces provoking them to attack him, to which neither Heathcliff or the servant Joseph seems to bother about. Fortunately for Lockwood, a female servant comes and shoos the dogs away. Although Lockwood is not injured, he appears to sulk in a childish manner, resulting in Healthcliff making up for this incident when he sees how angry Lockwood is. Wine is offered, and a conversation is brought about. Lockwood s foolish character analysis and bad judgement of Heathcliff prompts him to think of returning to Thrushcross Grange the next day, I was encourages so far as to volunteer another visit tomorrow. Lockwood appears slightly

  • 37. Criticism Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales Edgar Allan Poe s critique of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales states, that any author who hope to be successful will write poetry and short stories in the same style that he, himself uses (Poe). Poe s continued popularity prove his ability to write an entertaining story, but what gives him the right to control another s work of art? He was, without a doubt, an arrogant person, and believed his way was the only proper way to write. Many may not agree with his theories on writing, or his need to make others abide by his rules, but there may be something to his beliefs. His stories, like the The Tell Tale Heart , are packed with emotion and flow beautifully do to the use of his style. After a falling out with his foster father, Poe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at The Tell Tale Heart in our textbook (1186), we can see that it is about three and a half pages long. This meets Poe s length requirement, because it can be read in one sitting. The story also has a preconceived effect, or unity of effect, throughout. The Tell Tale Heart is a dark story that deals with murder and guilt. The narrator kills a man because he doesn t like his eye, chops him up and hides him under the floorboards. There is nothing to misinterpret in this story; the narrator is a crazy and dangerous man. This leads to the climax, where the narrator starts feeling guilt for killing the old man. He starts to believe he can hear the man s heart through the floorboards; The heartbeat gets louder and louder until the narrator can no longer take it. When the police arrive, he turns himself in just to get away from the beating. With climax being the final element, Poe has made sure The Tell Tale Heart has everything necessary to be considered a short ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Power Factor Correction Using Boost Converters For Single... POWER FACTOR CORRECTION USING BOOST CONVERTERS IN SINGLE PHASE DIODE BRIDGE RECTIFIERS Shrinivas Reddy Dept. of EEE,PDACEG, GULBARGA Abstract The development of power electronic converters is marked by demands for a simultaneous reduction in Size , losses and power related costs. Historically diode bridge rectifiers with a laSrge capacitor at the dc bus have been used to convert the ac voltage to a dc voltage. But diode bridge rectifiers draw a very high peak current from the ac utility, which is rich in harmonics and thus gives a very poor power factor. Modern AC DC power supplies utilize power factor correction in order to minimize the harmonics in the input current drawn fiom the utility. The Boost topology is the most popular topology used for power factor correction today. In this paper, power factor correction using boost converters in single phase diode bridge rectifiers is presented. 1. Introduction In recent years, conversion of ac line voltages from utilities has been dominated by using a single phase diode rectifier followed by a single switch boost stage. Designers have embraced the usefulness of this topology since it draws a sinusoidal input current and maintains a unity input power factor under varying load ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Reflection On Colors I have been really focusing on colors for past 4 years, almost one fourth of my entire life. I believe that each of different colors can change someone s life. It sounds unreal, almost. Well, there is someone who got affected by colors. It s me. In fact, I was not always interested in colors until Eighth Grade. I used to be a person who did not focus on colors in everyday life, just like most people do, but now I care colors so much because of situations I have experienced. Thankfully, everything in the world has a color, and it used for many different purposes. Human eyes can see many different colors because they are very sensitive. For me, the color is something that impacts and changes my state and thoughts. I love looking at colors because it supports the words I am saying and gives me many different moods. I remember the times that I realized how much colors impact on me. When I was in eighth grade in South Korea, I got a chance to visit DMZ, or 38th parallel. DMZ stands for the Demilitarized Zone, where it divides Korea into a half. While I was in DMZ, I felt like I was in 1970s. South Koreans lived in DMZ, but it was a lonesome place. When I came back to school, my teacher wanted me to explain the difference between North Korea, DMZ, and South Korea, and I could not find ways to explain. Suddenly, I thought of colors, only because they were simple. Then, I immediately started to color the south side of Korea as Blue, North as Red , and DMZ as Light Purple. I said that Red indicates the communism and blood. Blue as a peace, and Purple as a confusion. Everyone can guess Red as something about violence, and Blue is something about peace. However, people don t know what Purple describes because it can be anything. Purple is certainly the mixture of Red and Blue, but people don t go deeper. I said light Purple because DMZ was a very clean place. The word confusion came to my mind, because I was confused if I saw DMZ as more of South side or North side, and I used it to explain the meaning of colors to my teacher. It was a total success! That s how I started to use them to support my opinion. (I use color to to give a detail often) I went to Canada this summer, and I traveled Banff and Vancouver. In Banff, ... • 40. Describe Houston When someone asks a Houstonian about the music scene around town, the answer is usually quite bleak and a lot people don t really know much about it beyond BeyoncГ© and DJ Screw. It is especially considered nonexistent in comparison to another Texas city, Austin. Austin has this huge reputation of having a phenomenal music scene and it is even billed as The Live Music Capital of the World. Yes, Austin has great local bands and many avid music fans but so does Houston . Even though it s not extremely noted, Houston has one of the most influential and diverse music scenes in the country. If you asked people to describe Houston in one word, Diverse would probably be the most commonly used word. We are the 7th most diverse cityin the country... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Houston is extremely well known for its many rap artists and producers like Bun B, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, and, of course, DJ Screw. DJ Screw was the man who created the chopped and screwed technique that is heavily used in hip hop music to this day. Every year on June 27th, Houston celebrates Screw Day because of his legendary freestyle called June 27th (Caldwell 1). Screw died almost 15 years ago and his legacy will live on forever in the hip hop/rap industry and especially in Houston. We ve had some extremely influential rappers come out of Houston and Drake, a non Houstonian, reps Houston like it s his hometown. Even though a lot of people don t like the fact that he honors Houston so much and puts on Houston Appreciation Weekend, he brings so many people to Houston and the more people who come here, the more they get to discover how Houston is a great music city. I work in retail and during Houston Appreciation Weekend, I met people from New York City , Miami, and LA who just flew out here to see Drake. He uses his notability to promote Houston artists and gives them a lot of love. Just recently, he had an exhibit on Bun B and many important people in the city were at the event. Even though he s not from Houston, he honors it really hard and has had a huge influence. While Houston is notable for the rap community, there have been many other artists in different ... • 41. Illegal Drugs Are Not Used For Medicinal Purposes 1.Briefly describe the issue (risk taking behaviour) Illicit drugs are drugs that are not used for medicinal purposes. They are addictive which means that a person craves, seeks and continues to use them despite the harmful consequences. 2.Discuss reasons that may influence individuals to engage in this behaviour. People generally take illicit drugs to feel good or feel better than they felt before. This feeling of pleasure or high is what a person gets from taking a drug with large and rapid increases of dopamine. Dopamine is a chemical formed in the brain when we get the feeling of something we enjoy for example, listening to music and being with friends. Taking illicit drugs causes a much more intense and longer lasting sensation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a person engages in taking, smoking or sniffing illegal drugs there are many risks involved. A person can never be sure of exactly what they are taking, it is unlikely that they know exactly what s the contents may be and it is impossible to tell the strength of the drug. The greater the amount of the drug taken the greater the risk a person is at having a fatal overdose, panic attacks, psychotic behaviour and disturbing experiences. The effects of the drug are never certain and even if the consumer has taken a drug before the effects can be different each time. Mixing different types of drugs and drugs with alcohol also has extremely dangerous effects. If needles, syringes or other injecting equipment is shared there is a high risk of infections being spread for example, HIV and Hepatitis. Injecting can also damage the veins. There are three different types of drugs sedative, stimulant and Hallucinogenic. Sedative drugs for example alcohol and heroin have an effect that slows the body and brain function down and may cause a person to feel very drowsy if a sufficient amount is taken. This can also lead to fatal overdose if too much is taken. Drugs such as amphetamine, cocaine, crack and ecstasy have a stimulant effect that can produce anxiety or panic attacks, especially when taken in large amounts. They are also highly dangerous for people with blood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

British artist Damien Hirst has shocked and surprised the art world with his unusual works, including glass displays of dead animals and medicine cabinet sculptures. Some people say Damien Hirst has learned a lot from Jeff Koons. Like Koons s basketball in the aquarium, Hirst likes to suspend things in tanks, encase things, make them last forever. Hirst is a great craftsman and a natural showman as Koons does. But Koons s works almost always dazzles and flares for the first impression. He has lent his idea from old and new creativities to blur the boundaries between high and low art in Murakami s projects.
