“Human Values” Lesson plan 13 – 11th October 2012 Barros Blancos nº 2 – Yubert Aloy
                   and Valeria Zeballos in cooperative work.

Aims:
   •    To introduce a new topic related to Human Values (Chosen by sts - Violence).
   •    To work on reading and speaking skills.
   •    To approximate students to a more complex level of written English.

Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
   •    Classify different situations of violence and describe them.
   •    Make a reflection on the topic. (Violence)
   •    Improve their reading skills.

Anticipated problems: Some of the concepts will be hard to understand because we will use
material with more natural language and abstract expressions.
Solutions: Teacher will give students some key words and will use some visual aids to help with
the transition.

Warm Up: 2 min: The teacher will write on the board some concepts to help students guessing
what follows next. (They have been working on diversity, a topic that sts have chosen related to
Human values’ unit).
Note: the other two topics are “Violence” and “Equality”, we will start with “Violence”.




Activity 1 Guessing/Speculating– 10 mins: Students will be divided in three groups (with the
criteria, sport, couple and child). The teacher will show students different pictures that they´ll
have to stick on the board by taking turns and classifying them, according to violent or non-
violent situations.
The teacher will ask them what kind of situation they can see in each picture and in the case of
the ones classified as violent, they´ll have to explain what kind of violence is, or how could they
call that type of violence.




Activity 2 Reading Comprehension – 15min : The teacher will give each of the three groups a
text with different testimonies and stories related to violence. Sts will have to read the texts and
answer the questions:

a)- Is this a situation of violence? Why?
b)- Why do you think this happens?
c) – What would you suggest to avoid this situation?

Note: All the groups will have a copy of the three texts.

Activity 3 Exchange of information -15 min : After the students finish with the questions, they
´ll go to the front and write on the board a brief summary of the story and their answers. Then,
they will make comments on their results.
Note. Some groups can finish activity 3 before others, so they´ll have something else to do while
the others are working. In this way, all the groups will have the information of the others.
Round up 3mins: The teacher will ask sts to mention three things that they found shocking from
the stories.

Human values lesson plan

  • 1. “Human Values” Lesson plan 13 – 11th October 2012 Barros Blancos nº 2 – Yubert Aloy and Valeria Zeballos in cooperative work. Aims: • To introduce a new topic related to Human Values (Chosen by sts - Violence). • To work on reading and speaking skills. • To approximate students to a more complex level of written English. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: • Classify different situations of violence and describe them. • Make a reflection on the topic. (Violence) • Improve their reading skills. Anticipated problems: Some of the concepts will be hard to understand because we will use material with more natural language and abstract expressions. Solutions: Teacher will give students some key words and will use some visual aids to help with the transition. Warm Up: 2 min: The teacher will write on the board some concepts to help students guessing what follows next. (They have been working on diversity, a topic that sts have chosen related to Human values’ unit). Note: the other two topics are “Violence” and “Equality”, we will start with “Violence”. Activity 1 Guessing/Speculating– 10 mins: Students will be divided in three groups (with the criteria, sport, couple and child). The teacher will show students different pictures that they´ll have to stick on the board by taking turns and classifying them, according to violent or non- violent situations. The teacher will ask them what kind of situation they can see in each picture and in the case of the ones classified as violent, they´ll have to explain what kind of violence is, or how could they call that type of violence. Activity 2 Reading Comprehension – 15min : The teacher will give each of the three groups a text with different testimonies and stories related to violence. Sts will have to read the texts and answer the questions: a)- Is this a situation of violence? Why? b)- Why do you think this happens? c) – What would you suggest to avoid this situation? Note: All the groups will have a copy of the three texts. Activity 3 Exchange of information -15 min : After the students finish with the questions, they ´ll go to the front and write on the board a brief summary of the story and their answers. Then, they will make comments on their results. Note. Some groups can finish activity 3 before others, so they´ll have something else to do while the others are working. In this way, all the groups will have the information of the others.
  • 2. Round up 3mins: The teacher will ask sts to mention three things that they found shocking from the stories.
