This document discusses a study on the use of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hucMSCs) for renal therapy. The study isolated and identified hucMSCs and injected them into a cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury rat model. The results showed that hucMSCs accelerated renal recovery, promoted proliferation and inhibited apoptosis of renal tubular cells, and protected renal cell mitochondria from dysfunction. Additionally, hucMSCs inhibited renal interstitial fibrosis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in renal cells. The conclusion is that hucMSCs attenuated cisplatin-induced acute and chronic renal injury by preventing mitochondrial dysfunction and suppressing epithelial-mesenchymal transition development.
