Henry Hudson was an English explorer born between 1570-1575 who made four voyages of exploration sponsored by English and Dutch trading companies. On his fourth voyage while searching for the Northwest Passage, Hudson's crew mutinied and set him adrift after becoming stranded in ice in what is now known as Hudson Bay, named after his discovery. Hudson and those with him died at sea while the mutineers returned to England. Hudson made several contributions through his voyages, including the discovery and naming of Hudson Bay, River, and Strait.
