The Mayflower was hired by the Pilgrims in 1620
The Speedwell was also hired by the pilgrims to sail
with the Mayflower
Having to many complications with keeping the
Speedwell seaworthy, they turned back and the
Mayflower went on it’s journey to Plymouth.
3. By the second departure they had been living on the
ship for nearly a month and a half, it took sixty-six days
to get across the Atlantic
The Hudson river was the intended destination, they
missed it by a few degrees
They spotted Cape Cod on November 9
They tried to sail south into the Hudson river but ran
into strong storms and almost shipwrecked , they
turned back around and went to explore Cape Cod
They finally settled in Plymouth in December of 1620
4. The pilgrims settle in Plymouth two months later after

Plymouth is known as the first permanent settlement
of the Europeans in New England
In the first year of living in Plymouth nearly half of the
settlers became ill and died
The pilgrims became friendly with the natives,
learning how to grow crops, hunt, and fish. In the fall
they had a harvest (known today Thanksgiving)
