The Most Important Person In My Life
Throughout my life, I ve had the opportunity to meet many people who have helped me become the
person I am today. But there s one person in particular who I know I couldn t live without and
therefore is the most important person in my life. This person will do anything she can for me, gives
me wonderful advice, and has taught me a lot about life. She is my grandmother, Nana as we call her ,
and her name is Mirta. I ve know her person ever since I was born. We met in a hospital in Boston
when I was about a week old. Although I don t remember of course she does. According to her I was
wrapped around two blankets when she first saw me. She d made fun of how small I was. Ever since
we met our bond is unbreakable. Nana is spiritual, wise, and understanding and I choose these qualities
to describe her because these are what makes her amazing and makes her who she is.
How can I describe an amazing women? She is five foot tall with shoulder lengths, with a wine color
hair and a with these hazel green eyes. She has a light tan color. She has a square shape face with a
little bit of wrinkles on her eyes and cheeks. She has narrow ears and thin eyebrows. She likes to wear
conservative church clothings. She loves loose and colorful dresses with her hoop earrings and art
deco necklace. She is not fat nor skinny but she has a oval type of body. She does not have any tattoos
and she always have her nails done.
My nana loves going to church. The first quality of my nana is that she s a

Children s Center Preschool Room For My Prosocial...
I went to Keiki Hau oli Children s Center preschool room for my prosocial observation assignment.
During my visit, it was indoor free play time, meanwhile teachers were offering breakfast. The
schedule is not rush, they can play indoor and outdoor with free choices for one hour. First, the room
was organized by the section. Each section has double or multiple amount of toys for children to play
with their friends. For example, on a shelf, there are three baby dolls and their matching clothes.
Children interact each other by asking questions such as, Baby is hungry. What can I do? Another
child said, I will show you. She used her baby bottle to pretend feeding a baby. There is big open floor
space in the back of the room for the children to play freely. Children were playing with blocks and
cars on that open floor. Some were playing with Kapla on a low table with one caregiver. Other
children were sitting at the carpet, listening a story. Children play peacefully because there are variety
of activity choices they can play. Two things if I am able to change, I will change the floor
arrangement and add more books. First, I will move free floor space from back of the room to the
middle close to the entrance because I can hear them well, so I could interact with them more. I like
ocean, nature, and Hawaiian culture area. They display nicely, but they are not create any prosocial
environment. I display more attractive to the children. I will put books related with

Speech to Persuade for Travel Essay
Planning Your Vacation INTRODUCTION Imagine getting away from the monotony of your
everyday life. You can lie on the beach sipping a cool drink miles away from your worries of getting a
paper done or helping a customer at work. You can be on top of a mountain overlooking beautiful
lands that are different from your own backyard. Half of the class has taken a vacation less than five
times in their lifetimes, but let s face that most of those probably included those little family vacations
to Disneyland. But, all of you said that you planned to travel someday. So, why not do it sooner than
later? One of the reasons for not traveling that many of you put is not having time because of school
or work. Also, one of your major concerns is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

because you will probably eat at more restaurants instead of fast food or the less diverse micro waved

Being A Good Pitcher Essay
Often times people who end up being great are the ones who are willing to put in the hardest work.
Being a good pitcher involves doing little things to put yourself in the best position possible.
Stretching, throwing, running and being smart are all essential parts of being a great pitcher.
Stretching out my muscles prevents arm, back, and leg injuries because throwing a baseball is not a
regular motion for the arm. I start with leg stretches such as toe touches and squats. This will ensure
that my hamstrings and quadriceps are ready to begin tossing. Squatting and rotating back and forth is
a great exercise for the back muscles. Arm stretches are by far the most vital for a pitcher considering
that s where most injuries happen. Arm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ten tosses from this position should get me loose enough to begin backing up. I throw about six to
seven throws at ten foot intervals. I back up to about one hundred and fifty feet or until I feel my arm
is extremely loose. One of the biggest mistakes made by pitchers is they don t work their way back
into their partner. I come back in throwing about three balls at each ten foot spot. Whenever I hit the
fifty foot mark, I began throwing a variety of pitches. For example, I ll throw fastball, changeup, and
curveballs. When I gain control over these pitchers, I go to the bullpen. In the pen, I always begin and
end with a fastball. I m ready to pitch in the game now. The most over looked aspect of pitching is
running. When I throw in a game, my arm becomes sore almost instantly. To try and defend against
this, I usually run immediately after and the days that follow my throwing. The day that I am pitching
is usually a light run of maybe a mile or so, but the next two days are long distance runs of fifteen
miles or more. A long run of constant arm moving helps my arm to break up the lactic acid that makes
my arm sore. This is one of the quickest ways to get rid of soreness and be ready to pitch again

A Lesson Plan For A Teacher
Every teacher is responsible for planning what will be taught to their students every week. Each day
the students will have certain activities and work that all comes together under the same category. This
is what is called lesson plans, and they are a very important part of keeping the class together and also
help the teacher stay organized. There are many different ways in which one can set up their lesson
plans, but it is very important to have them done the correct way rather than the wrong way to get the
full benefit from them. I was able to find two different lesson plans that represent the correct way and
also the wrong way. The correct one I was able to find on reading.org and the other one I found on
esltreasures.com. Each one was created for the beneficial knowledge of the student, however they are
very different and only one will help them obtain that knowledge. The first lesson plan that I found on
esltreasures.com was a very simple lesson plan, which appears to be more of an agenda with different
times with each activity. The lesson is supposed to be directed for a class of junior beginners and is
meant to cover a grammar lesson along with spelling and vocabulary. However everything is done in
unrealistic time frames. All the activities are between 5 to 20 minutes each. Since the subject being
taught is grammar and vocabulary, there is an assignment for a spelling game, but it is only for 10
minutes. There is also a grammar point explanation that is only 2 3

Civilization Vs. Savagery In The Lord Of The Flies
Civilization versus Savagery
The Lord of the Flies is a classic novel written by William Golding in the year of 1954. The novel tells
the tale of a group of schoolboys who are miraculously marooned on a desert island after their plane
crashes. At first the boys attempt to govern themselves and to keep a grasp on civilization and order;
In the beginning the island was very much like their home, but eventually this ideology fades into
savagery and brutality. The boys resort to theft, torture and even murder. Although The Lord of the
Flies depicts many themes and morals, the underlying theme is the battle between the human impulse
towards civilization and savagery. This theme is brilliantly and respectively portrayed by battle of the
two characters; Jack and Ralph.
In the beginning there was only the main protagonist Ralph and Piggy, they soon realise that there is a
possibility that there may be other survivors and decide to call the others using a conch shell that
Ralph and Piggy had found earlier, Ralph had stopped smiling and was pointing into the lagoon.
Something creamy lay among the ferny weeds. [p8] The conch is blown by Ralph ( We can use this to
call the others [p9]) Children start to emerge from the bushes including a choir lead by a ginger boy
named Jack. Note that they only emerged from hearing the sound of the shell, there were no other
instructions, this immediately makes the conch a symbol of law and order. Once everyone is gathered
a meeting is called,

The Once And Future King
The Once and Future King
The legend of King Arthur is a tale as timeless as any other found in literature today. Introduced to us
by Sir Thomas Malory during the fifteenth century in Morte d Arthur, it was the first complete tale of
Arthur s life. Countless portrayals followed for any reader interested in the tale of the boy who was
destined to become King. The Once and Future King by T.H. White is certainly the most popular
representation of the immortal legend of King Arthur. It is similar to the tales woven before it but
White gives new meanings and modernization to the traditional story through his unique perspectives
and writing. White takes the reader on a journey in the past enriched by the knowledge of the future.

Merlin quickly corrects the boy by telling him his notion quot;would be extremely presumptuous
quot;, and he quot;would be conquered for it quot; (38). Merlyn wants the young boy to understand
that might is not the answer to the problems in the world. He hopes that when the young boy becomes
King he will be capable of correcting such faults with the world. This is in contrast to Wart s
encounter with the King of the Moat while on an adventure lesson devised by Merlin. The King
declares that there is only power ;, and power of the body decides everything in the end, and only
might is right ; (48). For a young boy, the lessons in life are difficult to understand without experience.
Wart s experience will soon come, for the section ends when he pulls the sword from the stone and
becomes King. Merlyn is the first to address him as King, leaving behind the boy once known as Wart.
The next section entitled The Queen of Air and Darkness tells of Arthur s war to defend his title and
secure his throne. His fight to claim his rights leads Arthur to a battle within himself. At one point
Arthur declares to his subjects Why can t you harness might so that it works for right ; (254). He
believes that in his pursuit to conquer his foes, he could use might to turn the bad things into
something good. Merlyn is aware of his naivete but knows that time will bring knowledge or failure.

Emile Durkheim Social Fact Essay
Stated in The Rules of Sociological Method Durkheim defines social fact to concepts and
expectations that come from society, not the individual. Many examples prove that social fact
only exists where social organization is present, such as the legal system, as well as the education
system. Durkheim states that social organization is not needed in social fact, and that social fact
is all those issues that society pushes to be acted orderly.
The legal system is a prime example of social fact. The legal system is a strict set of laws and
regulations that must be followed by each individual. It is to society s interest that these
regulations be followed. When someone makes the decision to take someone else s life, there is a
process that is taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The offender planned out this murder, therefore it points him to a path of legal
stages that come to no surprise to him or society. If a driver is pulling out of her driveway, and
kills someone because she wasn t aware of her blind spot, she then would go through an entirely
different process. Factors taken into consideration would be that she was sober, there was no
intent to harm, and physically could not see the victim. She then would be taken through steps of
the legal system as well. When reading those examples, it is no shock to society what is going to
happen to each of these offenders. The reason for this is because rules and regulations of the law
are at interest of society. When these laws are broken, there is an orderly system to deal with
each and every offense, therefore making the legal system a social fact.
Religion is another example of social fact. Christians baptize babies very quickly after birth,
church is attended on Sundays, and there is a priest present every day at church. In Islamic
religions, prayers are to be done everyone morning before sunrise, until sunrise, with no issue to
be an excuse for distraction. All though the example of religion is not at systematic

Examples Of The Mistakes Of Entrepreneurs
Three Big Scaling Mistakes that Entrepreneurs Make
Every entrepreneur starts their business with a dream. Usually, that dream involves getting bigger,
better, and making more money. It s a good dream.
The problem is that growing your business can be tricky. If you don t do it properly, you can hurt, or
even destroy, your business. All too often beginning entrepreneurs scale prematurely, hire the wrong
people, and don t create the right systems and processes. You want to grow your business to match
your dream, but if you make these three mistakes (or any one of them) you may see your dream vanish
before your eyes.
Killer Mistake #1 Scaling Too Quickly

Hire thoughtfully and train thoroughly. Then, and this is the hard part, you need to step back and let
them do it. Micromanaging your employees is counterproductive and a waste of your time and
resources. It also leads to unhappy employees and turnover.
Marketing Just because you understand your business better than anyone doesn t mean that you know
how to market it properly. All too often entrepreneurs try to do too much themselves. Marketing
specialists understand your local market, your competition, and if they re any good, they ll get to
know your business almost as well as you know it yourself. Rather than wasting money trying to do it
yourself, invest in a pro and watch your business grow.
Accounting and Taxes Just like marketing, many entrepreneurs think they have the smarts to handle
their own accounting and taxes. Even if you have a great mind for numbers, as a business owner, you
don t have the time to research all the applicable tax laws that can affect your business. Hire a CPA
and develop a tax strategy from the beginning to help maximize your profits and avoid any IRS

are no other substitute goods for cigarette as smokers only will buy cigarette as they couldn t find
other thing that able substitute the cigarette. Weed is too heavy to substitute the cigarette so it cannot

shisha doesn t mean that they must be a smoker and the smokers doesn t mean that they like to smoke
shisha. Besides that, some people are addicted on shisha only but some are only addicted on cigarette.
Most of the people will only be addicted to either shisha or cigarette but not both so there are very few
substitute goods for cigarette so in this situation, the demand for cigarette is perfect inelastic. Tobacco
taxes increases smokers still demand on it. The cigarette company are able to earn more as the taxes of
tobacco increases but people still demand for it. The increase of the taxes will not affect the quantity
of people demand for the cigarette. Besides that, the daily cost of the smoker will increase as the price
of cigarettes increase but they still buy it. I think this will cause the

The Subculture Of Board Game
People have always develop ways to pass time or enjoy their everyday activates. There have been
puzzles, books, and television invented to help with this process. The need to have something to do
has fueled the creation of games. The most popular games today are videogames which have millions
of people logging on each day to play with others. Videogames have created a culture of their own, but
they were not the original type of gaming recreation. Board games have been bringing their played
into fantasy worlds long before the popularization of videogames. This has spark my interest to
understand the subculture of board game players in today s society. I have selected a local board
gaming site to conduct my field research for my ethnographic study. My primary location or this
research will be at Tucson Games and Gadgets where I will try to minimize any preconceptions I may
currently have, and utilize key informants to get an overall picture of the culture. First I had to choose
the best location from various gaming locations in the Tucson area.
Tucson Games and Gadgets was clearly the most viable option to choose after I had visited the
location first hand. This location was conveniently located in the heart of Tucson which gives me great
ease of access almost on a daily basis. When first arriving at this location I noticed that the parking lot
was already full. For a Monday evening this was a good sign that this location could provide enough

Discipline As A Teacher
Children must be taught and guided in the right direction. Whenever discipline is implemented, the
child is learning the proper behavior and is acquiring new knowledge. With the teacher s clear
explanation which will give the child understanding, the child should gain wisdom. Wisdom comes
through experience. Wisdom has been defined as having the knowledge of what is proper and
appropriate and having the ability to apply that knowledge with just judgment ccording to knowledge,
experience, and understanding (Merriam Webster s online dictionary, n.d). In order for our children to
grow in knowledge and understanding, they must learn and show discipline.
As teachers, we are challenged to guide our students in a way that encourages independence. This
means that what we are teaching them, they will learn to do for themselves. Discipline helps to instill
the proper behavior. Practicing the proper behavior produces routine. Routine then in turn displays
discipline. Discipline is taught. Where there is discipline, there comes knowledge and wisdom, which
exemplifies the purpose of teaching and learning.
When it comes to raising a child, which we as teachers also take on, we may all have different
methods, but each method should evolve from the guide that was given in the Good Book, The Holy
Bible. Ephesians 6:4 states, Fathers do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them.
Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. We must

Personal Narrative Of My Writing
As long as I can remember, my favorite subject has always been English. From a young age, I craved
an entertaining fantasy and begged my parents to tell stories. Eventually, my parents purchased a
cabinet full of books for my sister and I to enjoy. I was a bit hesitant to start reading, but once I
learned to read I could not cease. Reading was an adventure; I could discover the world and widen my
imagination. Consequently, my obsession with writing fiction began. I wrote what I knew as a child,
which was mostly realistic fiction consisting of complications between friends and families, always
with a positive denouement. While my stories may have been dull and repetitive, I wrote until my
hands were stained black with lead along with the notion that I would become a published author.
Upon entering school, my love for English was only strengthened by my distaste for Math. Instead of
thinking critically, it was more natural to think creatively. I found pleasure in the Accelerated Reader
program in elementary school and earned countless points as I expanded my reading level. One aspect
of English my elementary brain never understood was phonics rules. My large vocabulary and the
ability to evoke the sounds of words based on their appearance made phonics rules seem confusing
and pointless. In middle school, integrated English classes introduced me ... Show more content on

I gained an affinity for classic literature by reading novels such as Romeo and Juliet, and twentieth

President Obama Signed The Every Student Succeeds Act
Every Student Succeeds Act President Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) on
December 10, 2015 to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation s
education law and longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all students. (Every Student

(Every Student Succeeds, n.d.) According to Klien (2015), there will be no role for the federal
government in teacher evaluation as well as elimination of using student outcomes as a portion of
teacher evaluation, and eliminating NCLB s highly qualified teacher component. The full impact of
ESSA will be highly speculated in near future and the true outcomes and implications will be
unknown for quite some time. However, returning some of the power back to the states themselves
and loosening up some of the one size fits all programs and requirements will allow states and local
districts to design more appropriate policies and programs to help students. It will certainly be
important for administrators, district personnel, and state officials to become well versed with the
changes in policy. ESSA still focuses on the task at hand for education, ensuring that all students have
an equal opportunity to learn and excel.
Paul D. Coverdell Teacher Protection Act The Teacher Protection Act was added as a part of NCLB in

Necessary Causes Of War
Permissive causes of war are those features of the international system which, while not actively
promoting war, nevertheless allow it to happen (Baylis et al 2002, p. 71). The lack of ungoverned
international system some believe is the root that causes war. There are reasonable arguments for both.
It has also been found useful to distinguish between necessary and sufficient causes of war. A
necessary condition is one that must be present for it to occur if that condition is not present then there
will be no breakout of war. The existence of arms is a necessary condition of war because without
weapons no war can be fought. It is also necessary for humans to be in organized groups states, tribes,
ethnic groups, nations, or mechanisms for preventing it such as an effective world government.
A sufficient cause of war is one that, if present, guarantees the occurrence of war. A is a sufficient
cause of B if B always occurs whenever A exists (Baylis et al 2002, p. 27). For example, if two states
hate each other and cannot tolerate co existence then that is a sufficient cause of war between them.
Cause of war can be sufficient without being necessary and vice versa.
Category of necessary and sufficient do not cover all the possible causes of war. There are
unpredictable causes of war that do not fall into these two categories such as a desire of a statesman to
annex territory belonging to neighboring states. As the theory of the war varies among the leaders,

and dark place. Not many decisons are to be made by people themselfs but rather the government.
With governments starting to divide people are starting to flee East Berlin to head West. As the people
were being told what to do, families started to become more catious as to what they did. Curfwes were
set and certain jobs were given to certain people. A wall went up to keep East Berlin seperated from
the West. When a young man turned 18 he was required by Germany law to join their military, those
that did not were punished. School aged children where required to attend what was called the
Pinoers. This group was to teach young children how to obey the East Berlin laws. Gerta and Anna
(Gertas best friend) attended school together and were very close until Annas brother Peter tried to
escape East Berlin. This crime was punishable by death. Fritz Gertas brother knew of his plan to
escape but didn t tell anyone except Gerta. Not telling the government could also be punishable by
death if the statsi found out. Anna became closed off and from Gerta and began to withdraw

Boo Radley Stereotypes
In our culture we place people in boxes, and attach stereotypes to different types of people. It is
difficult to break free from the conventional ways of our pasts. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by
Harper Lee a character defines the way we as a society view stereotypes. Boo Radley is an important
character in To Kill a Mockingbird yet the only time we have actually witnessed him is the very last
scene of the book. Readers only hear town gossip, and see small kindnesses from him in the form of
trinkets hidden in trees.Boo radley is a symbol for the misconceptions and stereotyping of people,

The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act Essay
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare, was passed in
June of 2010 by the Supreme Court (Doyle 1). Georges C. Benjamin, MD, the executive director of

The new law will guarantee millions of Americans access to quality, affordable care regardless of
health status; decrease rates of the nation s leading chronic diseases; control soaring health spending;
and strengthen our battered public health infrastructure... Health reform and its historic investment in

coverage if a person becomes ill, the act is the first act in history that ensures that mental health and
substance abuse treatment services are required benefits in all basic health insurance packages

Affordable Care Act prohibits all health plans, including grandfathered plans, from rescinding a health

policy to rescind ones coverage is if the enrollee has committed fraud or made an intentional

both sides of the argument. There are many positives that provide a strong argument supporting the
bill. When the bill was initially proposed, President Obama assured Americans that, if they so choose,

The Five Stages Of Team Development
At some point of our academic or professional history, we were required to work with our peers, we
know or barely know. This opportunity are great instrument to learn and expand our experience and
social circle. Initially it could be stressful, and time consuming, but if done well the result would be
extremely rewarding, it is called teamwork.
Insert teamwork definition
Why is teamwork essential?
Five Stages of Team Development
In 1965, a professor of psychology at the Ohio State University, Bruce Tuckman propose the five
stages of group development (Andersen Bolt, 2011, p. 161). Tuckman strongly suggest the norm order
for team to grow as one coordinated group.
Teamwork plays a fundamental role in providing a high quality service and achieving
accomplishments. Most teams usually go through five stages of development in order for them to
successfully meet their group s purpose. Here is the five stages of team development:
1. Forming stage is the first phase of team development. This is the period where the first impression
will initially form. The team begins as soon as they are created. The individuals will be formerly
introduced to their peers, they have to work with. Members would still be wary and cautious of their
surroundings. In addition, this is the stage where the members will determine, how they will organize
their approach in order to meet their desired goals.
2. Storming stage is the second phase of team development. This is when the conflict between the

Plot Development in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
Many times plot development is thought of as a key detail in keeping a story organized, while others
would say that plot structure tends to add too much order to a piece of work and hinder the reader
from exploring true creativity. A great example of these two contrasting ideas is illustrated in Amy Tan
s well known novel The Joy Luck Club . Although some could argue that there is no definite plot
structure portrayed at all within the book, this is not true. A slight plot lies within each individual short
story. While there might not be an overall rising and falling action connected throughout the novel, an
exposition, climax, and resolution are clearly illustrated in each story.
Typically, the exposition provides background information and introduces the reader to what the story
will be about. An example of this would be in the beginning of the story, Two Kinds , when Jing Mei
Woo says, My mother believed you could be anything you wanted to be in America...my mother told
me when I was nine (Tan 132). In this quote Jing Mei Woo informs the reader on how her mother
would always tell her that America is the land of opportunity, and also gives the reader a key idea that
follows her throughout much of her life. This idea helps to explain many of Jing Mei s actions. On the
other hand, this story is placed towards the middle of the novel, meaning this story should begin to set
up for the climax of the over all novel. For example, this story is about her Jing Mei Woo s

Racism In English Football
The idea of racism in English Football, particularly the Premier League, is nowhere near as old as
racism in England or the rest of the United Kingdom for that matter. However, the Premier League is
often times considered the world s best league when it comes to football and draws the best talent
from around the world. In the recent years, the league has seen a sizeable influx of players from
outside Britain and Ireland, which shows a reflection of an increasingly commercialized game with a
global reach. These incredible players are put on center stage week in and week out throughout
England on the biggest public arenas and draw millions of faithful supporters to their home club s
stadium. However, even with an increase in the number of foreign born players, racism is still very
prevalent in the ever growing sport. The reality is that football represents one of the tapestries onto
which social achievements and problems, claims and counterclaims are ritually etched. The growing
awareness of how racism is connected to football functions through a complicated framework which
reveals it as a problem which is very much out there in wider society today. Racism does touch the
game of football, its players, officials, and their millions of supporters and reinforces the notion that
racism is still very ubiquitous in an England that is often times considered diverse and accepting. In
England, the phenomenon of racism in football first became a subject of widespread concern in

The Analysis of the Character Ophelia on Hamlet Essay
In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, Ophelia is the most static character in the play. Instead of changing
through the course of the play, she remains suffering in the misfortunes perpetrated upon her. She falls
into insanity and dies a tragic death. Ophelia has issues surviving without a male influence, and her
downfall is when all the men in her life abandon her. Hamlet s Ophelia, is a tragic, insane character
that cannot exist on her own. In Elizabethan times, Ophelia is restricted as a woman. She is obedient
to the commands of the men in her life although she often attempts to do the right thing. Polonius,
Laertes, and Hamlet all have a grasp on Ophelia and who she is. She does not have the freedom to

Hamlet knows that she is helping her dad, Polonius, spy on him. He accuses Ophelia, and all women,
of being a breeder of sinners (Shmoop Editorial Team 1). Hamlet orders Ophelia to a nunnery, but she
cannot call him out on it because she is not supposed to know what the word means. This is not the
only criticism that Hamlet calls out to Ophelia. He says that if Ophelia is to marry a man, she will turn
her husband into a monster because she will cheat on him (Shmoop Editorial Team 1). Hamlet: If thou
dost marry, I ll give thee this plague for thy dowry: be thou as chaste as ice, as pure as snow, thou shalt

wise men know well enough what monsters you make of them. To a nunnery, go, and quickly too.

life to help guide her. Gabrielle Dane says, Motherless and completely circumscribed by the men
around her, Ophelia has been shaped to conform to external demands, to reflect others desires (qtd. in
Brown 1). Since Ophelia has no woman influence in her life, Polonius is left as the dominant role in
her life (Brown 1). She is an obedient daughter and abides by the rules her father gives her with no
protest. She is seen as her father s property (Maki 2). Her

The Major Effects Of The Second Industrial Revolution
The second industrial revolution was the change of our world even though many people moved from
rural homes into cities because they can t get accepted in jobs and it started in the 1870 1944 after the
civil war because during this time, many advances in technology and factories made it easier and
quicker for farmers and manufactures to produce more goods and products to be sold.
There was also one major effect that caused the second industrial revolution which was immigration

Vanderbilt had big industrial tycoons which had a massive benefit for them and for their society
because they had an increase in mass production which ultimately changed the face of the United
States of America from being a rural society into being an urban society. Family relations started to
weaken during the second revolution in America and New England because with new employment
opportunities for women, men and children in New England and America, families had the ability to
become free or separate from each other, move away, or have an employment in which their gender or
age might not have otherwise allowed today. In short, the Industrial Revolution in early America

Analysis Of The Movie Empire Falls By Richard Russo
Empire Falls, written by Richard Russo, encompasses several concepts of the American identity and
what it means to be an American. Russo focuses on the small town life in New England, illustrating a
compelling story while narrating the lives of several different characters. While these characters seem
to be different at the surface, they actually share several similarities. The characters of Empire Falls
share the same outlook of life. Despite the American freedom they have, they will typically follow the
path of life that they were born into and never question why. Overall, Empire Falls is a town of
acceptance, accepting ones place in society as it is. The citizens of Empire Falls do not question their
path of life and simply accept the basic truth of their lives. This speaks volumes for our country. Are
we a country that will simply accept our set path of life? Or rather fight for what we believe in, despite
the negative connotations it may bring. Through extensive analysis of the protagonist Miles Roby and
other important characters in the novel, we will begin to what it means to be an American through a
different perspective.
Miles Roby works at the restaurant, Empire Grill, spending his days flipping burgers and counting
change. He is the epitome of the Cognitive Dissonance Theory. Cognitive Dissonance is used to
describe people who are having a conflict between their personal beliefs and own reality. For example,

Is Social Media Responsible For The Increase Of Mental...
Is social media responsible for the increase in mental health issues in young people?
For the majority of my generation social media is an integral part of our lives. Since the invention of
the smart phone we have only ever been a few clicks away from our friends and endless information.
However, how is this affecting our mental health? On the one hand it can be argued that it is
enhancing our communication skills yet studies have suggested that offline behaviours such as
bullying are becoming more and more prevalent online.
With the dawn of social media also came cyberbullying. Unlike verbal and physical bullies,
cyberbullies have the power of anonymity and omnipresence, which in some cases can allow them to
be untouchable. One only has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence it is unlikely that participants would be willing to reveal that level of personal information in a
survey. Therefore, this study does not reflect the true number of the sample experiencing suicidal
thoughts. One could argue that cyberbullying is not the fault of social media and if social media had
not come about the other forms of bullying would just have increased in severity. Ybarra and Mitchell
et al (2004) found that: Students who bully online are more likely to report poor parent child
relationships and a lack of parental monitoring of online behaviour . So surely the responsibility of the
increase in mental health problems lies with the parents. The world is always adapting therefore, it is a
parent s duty to make sure that their children are taught the appropriate behaviours for any social
setting.
Yet one could argue that social media provides opportunities for social interaction that those with
mental illnesses such as social anxiety would not otherwise be able to have. 0.8% of the adult
population suffers from agoraphobia, a fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult. So
one could argue that social media provides a lower pressure environment where at least the person is
receiving some social interaction rather than none at all. Someone with social anxiety disorder is
characterized as having a constant phobia of social situations in which they believe they will be

Barrier beaches are long narrow land forms that are composed of sand and other lose sediments. These
sediments are brought together by the actions of waves, currents and storm surges. Barrier beaches are
subject to constant changes by the same forces. Sand is constantly eroded in one area an deposited in

Long Island is famous for its sandy ocean beaches. Between the barrier beach and the main coast is
the Great South Bay. The beaches and dunes have very different characteristics. The sandy beach is
the junction of land and ocean. The sandy beach consists of two zones, the swash zone and the drift
line. The swash zone is the area of wet sand, caused by the incoming wave. The drift line is formed by
the dead seaweed and other aquatic plants. Behind the sandy beach is the primary dune. The primary
dune s main function is to absorb the force of the ocean and protect the great south bay and the island
s main coast. In some cases secondary dunes form. These dunes are behind the primary dune and are
therefor protected from the ocean. This provides the stability necessary for plant growth. Many time a
maritime forests will form on secondary dunes. Barrier beaches are not static, they are constantly
being changed (Coastal Change ) by the forces that formed them; waves and wind. One change
effecting barrier beaches is they are moving closer to the main coast. This movement is caused by the
rise in sea level. As the sea level rises waves crash higher and higher upon the beach, as they do this
the dunes are pushed back. There are also seasonal changes in the barrier beaches. During stormy
seasons sand is removed from the beach and deposited off shore on the longshore bar. During calm
season waves redeposit sand upon the beach and the beach grows.

Artificial Intelligence Is More Complicated Than The...
Question #1 Artificial Intelligence is far more complicated than the mechanical process of thinking.
There are multiple things in these world from phones to computers that can be considered Artificial
Intelligence. However, the description for an A.I. vary dramatically due to the fact that intelligence
itself is not easy to describe design within itself. The Touring test states that you could have an
imitation game going on with a computer and if you do its considered to have intelligence. To counter
act that point, if one can only imitate and copy someone else s thoughts and patterns is it considered to
be its own entity? Indeed, using language as the bases of intelligence is a good step however it does
not answer the conception of a mind. Artificial Intelligence can imitate but since it cannot create its
own distinctive answer, therefore Lady Lovelace state that it is lacking conscious and cannot be the
basis of a mind. If we look at a human mind, one can input data from various sources and create
mental images that our sentient mind can handle and process appropriately. With that in mind, we
sound and process exactly like a computer or an intelligent program, where we differentiate from is
how we make an output. This is where the scale for a weak A.I. and a strong A.I come into play. A
weak A.I. can input data per its program but that is where it is limited, while a Strong A.I. can use
think for itself possible outside its program. For Example, a human can be on a train

This outcome can be attributed to many factors such as diet and exercise which are necessary to help

Analysis Of Between The World And Me,
In Ta Nehisi Coates s Between the World and Me, Coates seeks to educate his young son and in turn
the reader of his experience as an African American man in the United States. In this, racism becomes
a very prominent and complex theme. In some way racism impacted every facet of his life. The novel
highlights the drastic difference in the ability for curiosity and personal development and questioning
in his public education in a poor area versus his continued education at Howard University a
historically black private college. What was the main cause of these extremely different experiences,
socioeconomics, institutional culture, educational style?
Coates spent his childhood years in a poor Baltimore public school, a system that mostly meant
always packing an extra number 2 pencil and working quietly (Coates 25). He grew up believing that
The world had no time for the childhoods of black boys and girls (Coates 25). School was not to him a
place of education but rather an institution whose purpose was to train the students to obey and
conform. Algebra, Biology, and english were not subjects so much as opportunities to better discipline
the body (Coates 25). In many low income public schools education seems to fall through the cracks.
The curriculum meets the basic requirements but lacks the space for the kids to find personal passions,
to be curious about what they want to know and believe. Coastes s childhood education was not one of
discovery, rather it was

The Enlightenment Of People On Identity By Judith Ortiz Cofer
The Enlightenment Of People On Identity The identities of an individual may differ from how they
see themselves to how others see them, and this is known as a personal and a social identity. People
are often misinformed about another person s, or group of people s social identities through
stereotypes or bad experiences. For some people such as Brent Staples and Judith Ortiz Cofer, this has
led to many awkward and potentially dangerous situations. Brent Staples is an African American
journalist for the New York Times and was a professor of psychology. During his graduate years at the
University of Chicago, he found many situations that were potentially dangerous because of people
who had either stereotyped him or categorized him based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cofer found out about the difference in culture one day at school in New Jersey. The way that our
teachers and classmates looked at us that day in school was just a taste of the culture clash that
awaited us in the real world, where prospective employers and men on the street would often
misinterpret our tight skirts and jiggly bracelets as a come on. (Ortiz Cofer 205) During the 1970 s the
over sexualization of latinas were commonplace in the media and through stereotypes which labeled
them in terms of their preconceived sexuality. As with the situation with the man who sang Maria ,
Cofer realized that misinformation about her culture and stereotypes would cause people, specifically
male, to approach her and others like her as sexual objects. On the other hand, Staples had the
opposite effect on those in the community. I could cross in front of a car stopped at a traffic light and
elicit the thunk, thunk, thunk. thunk of the driver black, white, male, or female hammering down the
door locks. On less traveled streets after dark, I grew accustomed to but never comfortable with
people crossing to the other side of the street rather than pass me (Staples 20). These instances
illustrated that fear caused by history full of conflict and stereotypes had control over his community.
This fear created a social identity of

The Waste Land By. Elliot
In the Waste Land are several themes, techniques, allusions, and characters that have been stated
clearly by T.S. Elliot. However, the poem has also been interpreted differently and similar in certain
aspects in the Waste Land by critics such as Cleanth Brooks, Jr. The Waste Land: An Analysis , F.R.
Leavis [The significance of the Modern Waste Land] , Robert Langbaum The Walking Dead and
Maud Ellmann A Sphinx without a Secret. From these critics is the ability to find key evidences on
how each critic translates each of theses concepts like the meaning of exact lines, types of
organization within the poem, the theme of death in life, the Hanged Man, allusions, and content
(references that are used).
In the Waste Land are a lot of themes, but there is one particular theme that has been repeated several
times in the Waste Land and by critics which is death in life. From Leavis he referee death in life in
Section V Death by Water as being death is inevitable and the life giving water thirsted for (and the
water out of which all life comes) cannot save (183). Telling readers that Leavis is saying that death is
still going to happen and that there is no way of sustaining life again. Also headed in that direction
about the theme of death in life is Langbaum. He expresses death in life in Section II as it self as
unprecedented and meaningless (232). This notifies that Langbaum and Leavis are on the same page,
which is that death is inevitable and meaningless. Whereas

A Survey Of Image Based Artistic Rendering Techniques
A survey of Image Based Artistic Rendering techniques
Introduction
Paintings have been known to capture the human imagination since the pre historic times. A skilled
artist can evoke a range of human emotions and can portray things like appearances, playing of light
in surfaces, mood etc. on the paper. Similarly, with the invention of photography in the 19th century,
the artists got a new medium for their expressiveness and simulated artistic diversity. The field of non
photorealistic rendering started off in the early nineties with the aim of using the power of computer
graphics and create an interface between the two fields. With the exponential rise in computational
power and the advances made in computer graphics, the field has ... Show more content on

Also, researchers increasingly sought to automate the process and enhance the sophistication of stroke
placement.
The work by Haeberli[2] enabled people to transform photographs into impressionist paintings with
minimal labor. The user clicked on a photo, and the underlying system automatically placed the virtual
strokes by using the color of the source image. They also added noise to results to enhance the
impressionist effect. However, the first automatic solution was a tool proposed by Litwinowicz [3].
This is the paper which we review first in this report.
Processing Images and Video for an Impressionist Effect
This paper aims producing impressions of the original image, i.e. images that give a sense of an
original image without reproducing it. They happen to have a painterly feel to them and appear as they
have been hand painted. They produce painterly animation from video clips automatically after the
user specifies a few parameters to generate he first frame. After the user s preferences are taken into
account and he approves the first frame, the whole video segment is automatically produced without
further user intervention.
The biggest challenge in videos is to produce a temporally coherent style of animation which avoids
flicker and takes into account the movement of objects in the video. This paper was the first one to use
optical flow to compute the per pixel movement in images and use it to generate a sequence which is

The helmet was an important part. It was made with over 100 metal plates and looked very elegant.

Most Samurai followed a code called the Bushido Code. The code had very strict Rules. A Samurai
must never run from a fight, Even if brutally outnumbered. A samurai must stay healthy physically
and mentally. The Samurai has to be loyal To the his leader/ emperor, Doing whatever they say. One of
the most important rules in Bushido could end a samurai s life. If a samurai makes a grave mistake

Salem Witch Trials Essay
The Salem Witch Trials was a very dark period in our history that occurred in the colony of Salem,
Massachusetts. These trials began in February 1692 and ended in May of 1693. There were over two
hundred individuals who were accused of practicing witchcraft. Of those two hundred accused, nearly
twenty innocent souls were lost. This was one of the most severe cases of mass hysteria in recorded
history. There was a great effort exhorted by the Massachusetts General Court to declare a guilty
verdict, that the framers of the United States Constitution went to great lengths to never let this type of
tragedy occur again; commonly known as the eighth amendment. Remarkably so, some may argue
that there were similarities in Salem and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What would be considered mental disorders in today s society, no clear medical diagnosis could be
deduced. Partly due to fear and also not being able to diagnose these fits, members of the community
suspected witchcraft to be the culprit. Little did the community know what was about to transpire in
their town over the next year.
The Salem Witch Trials officially began in February 1692 when the afflicted girls accused Tituba, Ms.
Good and Ms. Osborne of witchcraft. Tituba confessed to witchcraft. Not only did she confess, she
also said there were many others who were working for Satan. This triggered the beginning and that is
when the fears of the Salem colonists were realized.
These girls did not all show symptoms at one time. The first girl to start experiencing symptoms was
Betty Parris. She was followed by Abigail Williams, Ann Putnam Jr., Mary Walcott and Mercy Lewis
(History of Massachusetts). These girls were throwing tantrums, hiding under furniture and contorting
to pain. Since panic and fear set in, witchcraft was the easy choice to make. In today s medical
science, these girls would have been diagnosed with boredom or epilepsy. Although at the time the
cause was unknown, these symptoms were probably brought on from eating rye infected with fungus.
The three victims were not the only ones accused. There were numerous cases of scapegoating
running prevalent.
Since Tituba confessed, there was little legal ground she

First, the room was organized by the section. Each section has double or multiple amount of toys for children to play with their friends. For example, on a shelf, there are three baby dolls and their matching clothes. Children interact each other by asking questions such as, Baby is hungry. What can I do? Another child said, I will show you. She used her baby bottle to pretend feeding a baby. There is big open floor space in the back of the room for the children to play freely. Children were playing with blocks and cars on that open floor. Some were playing with Kapla on a low table with one caregiver. Other children were sitting at the carpet, listening a story. Children play peacefully because there are variety of activity choices they can play. Two things if I am able to change, I will change the floor arrangement and add more books. First, I will move free floor space from back of the room to the middle close to the entrance because I can hear them well, so I could interact with them more. Being a good pitcher involves doing little things to put yourself in the best position possible. Stretching, throwing, running and being smart are all essential parts of being a great pitcher. Stretching out my muscles prevents arm, back, and leg injuries because throwing a baseball is not a regular motion for the arm. I start with leg stretches such as toe touches and squats. This will ensure that my hamstrings and quadriceps are ready to begin tossing. Squatting and rotating back and forth is a great exercise for the back muscles. Arm stretches are by far the most vital for a pitcher considering that s where most injuries happen. Arm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ten tosses from this position should get me loose enough to begin backing up. I throw about six to seven throws at ten foot intervals. I back up to about one hundred and fifty feet or until I feel my arm is extremely loose. One of the biggest mistakes made by pitchers is they don t work their way back into their partner. I come back in throwing about three balls at each ten foot spot. Whenever I hit the fifty foot mark, I began throwing a variety of pitches. For example, I ll throw fastball, changeup, and curveballs. When I gain control over these pitchers, I go to the bullpen. In the pen, I always begin and end with a fastball. I m ready to pitch in the game now. The most over looked aspect of pitching is running. When I throw in a game, my arm becomes sore almost instantly. To try and defend against this, I usually run immediately after and the days that follow my throwing. The day that I am pitching is usually a light run of maybe a mile or so, but the next two days are long distance runs of fifteen miles or more. A long run of constant arm moving helps my arm to break up the lactic acid that makes my arm sore. This is one of the quickest ways to get rid of soreness and be ready to pitch again ... The novel tells the tale of a group of schoolboys who are miraculously marooned on a desert island after their plane crashes. At first the boys attempt to govern themselves and to keep a grasp on civilization and order; In the beginning the island was very much like their home, but eventually this ideology fades into savagery and brutality. The boys resort to theft, torture and even murder. Although The Lord of the Flies depicts many themes and morals, the underlying theme is the battle between the human impulse towards civilization and savagery. This theme is brilliantly and respectively portrayed by battle of the two characters; Jack and Ralph. In the beginning there was only the main protagonist Ralph and Piggy, they soon realise that there is a possibility that there may be other survivors and decide to call the others using a conch shell that Ralph and Piggy had found earlier, Ralph had stopped smiling and was pointing into the lagoon. Something creamy lay among the ferny weeds. Whenever discipline is implemented, the child is learning the proper behavior and is acquiring new knowledge. With the teacher s clear explanation which will give the child understanding, the child should gain wisdom. Wisdom comes through experience. Wisdom has been defined as having the knowledge of what is proper and appropriate and having the ability to apply that knowledge with just judgment ccording to knowledge, experience, and understanding (Merriam Webster s online dictionary, n.d). In order for our children to grow in knowledge and understanding, they must learn and show discipline. As teachers, we are challenged to guide our students in a way that encourages independence. This means that what we are teaching them, they will learn to do for themselves. Discipline helps to instill the proper behavior. Practicing the proper behavior produces routine. Routine then in turn displays discipline. Discipline is taught. Where there is discipline, there comes knowledge and wisdom, which exemplifies the purpose of teaching and learning. When it comes to raising a child, which we as teachers also take on, we may all have different methods, but each method should evolve from the guide that was given in the Good Book, The Holy Bible. From a young age, I craved an entertaining fantasy and begged my parents to tell stories. Eventually, my parents purchased a cabinet full of books for my sister and I to enjoy. I was a bit hesitant to start reading, but once I learned to read I could not cease. Reading was an adventure; I could discover the world and widen my imagination. Consequently, my obsession with writing fiction began. I wrote what I knew as a child, which was mostly realistic fiction consisting of complications between friends and families, always with a positive denouement. While my stories may have been dull and repetitive, I wrote until my hands were stained black with lead along with the notion that I would become a published author. Upon entering school, my love for English was only strengthened by my distaste for Math. Instead of thinking critically, it was more natural to think creatively. I found pleasure in the Accelerated Reader program in elementary school and earned countless points as I expanded my reading level. Necessary Causes Of War Permissive causes of war are those features of the international system which, while not actively promoting war, nevertheless allow it to happen (Baylis et al 2002, p. 71). The lack of ungoverned international system some believe is the root that causes war. There are reasonable arguments for both. It has also been found useful to distinguish between necessary and sufficient causes of war. A necessary condition is one that must be present for it to occur if that condition is not present then there will be no breakout of war. The existence of arms is a necessary condition of war because without weapons no war can be fought. It is also necessary for humans to be in organized groups states, tribes, ethnic groups, nations, or mechanisms for preventing it such as an effective world government. A sufficient cause of war is one that, if present, guarantees the occurrence of war. A is a sufficient cause of B if B always occurs whenever A exists (Baylis et al 2002, p. 27). For example, if two states hate each other and cannot tolerate co existence then that is a sufficient cause of war between them. Cause of war can be sufficient without being necessary and vice versa. This opportunity are great instrument to learn and expand our experience and social circle. Five Stages of Team Development In 1965, a professor of psychology at the Ohio State University, Bruce Tuckman propose the five stages of group development (Andersen Bolt, 2011, p. 161). Tuckman strongly suggest the norm order for team to grow as one coordinated group. Teamwork plays a fundamental role in providing a high quality service and achieving accomplishments. Most teams usually go through five stages of development in order for them to successfully meet their group s purpose. Here is the five stages of team development: 1. Forming stage is the first phase of team development. This is the period where the first impression will initially form. The team begins as soon as they are created. The individuals will be formerly introduced to their peers, they have to work with. Members would still be wary and cautious of their surroundings. • 26. Plot Development in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club Many times plot development is thought of as a key detail in keeping a story organized, while others would say that plot structure tends to add too much order to a piece of work and hinder the reader from exploring true creativity. A great example of these two contrasting ideas is illustrated in Amy Tan s well known novel The Joy Luck Club . Although some could argue that there is no definite plot structure portrayed at all within the book, this is not true. A slight plot lies within each individual short story. While there might not be an overall rising and falling action connected throughout the novel, an exposition, climax, and resolution are clearly illustrated in each story. Typically, the exposition provides background information and introduces the reader to what the story will be about. An example of this would be in the beginning of the story, Two Kinds , when Jing Mei Woo says, My mother believed you could be anything you wanted to be in America...my mother told me when I was nine (Tan 132). In this quote Jing Mei Woo informs the reader on how her mother would always tell her that America is the land of opportunity, and also gives the reader a key idea that follows her throughout much of her life. This idea helps to explain many of Jing Mei s actions. On the other hand, this story is placed towards the middle of the novel, meaning this story should begin to set up for the climax of the over all novel. Russo focuses on the small town life in New England, illustrating a compelling story while narrating the lives of several different characters. While these characters seem to be different at the surface, they actually share several similarities. The characters of Empire Falls share the same outlook of life. Despite the American freedom they have, they will typically follow the path of life that they were born into and never question why. For the majority of my generation social media is an integral part of our lives. Since the invention of the smart phone we have only ever been a few clicks away from our friends and endless information. However, how is this affecting our mental health? On the one hand it can be argued that it is enhancing our communication skills yet studies have suggested that offline behaviours such as bullying are becoming more and more prevalent online. Ybarra and Mitchell et al (2004) found that: Students who bully online are more likely to report poor parent child relationships and a lack of parental monitoring of online behaviour . So surely the responsibility of the increase in mental health problems lies with the parents. The world is always adapting therefore, it is a parent s duty to make sure that their children are taught the appropriate behaviours for any social setting. Yet one could argue that social media provides opportunities for social interaction that those with mental illnesses such as social anxiety would not otherwise be able to have. 0.8% of the adult population suffers from agoraphobia, a fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult. The swash zone is the area of wet sand, caused by the incoming wave. The drift line is formed by the dead seaweed and other aquatic plants. Behind the sandy beach is the primary dune. There are multiple things in these world from phones to computers that can be considered Artificial Intelligence. However, the description for an A.I. vary dramatically due to the fact that intelligence itself is not easy to describe design within itself. The Touring test states that you could have an imitation game going on with a computer and if you do its considered to have intelligence. To counter act that point, if one can only imitate and copy someone else s thoughts and patterns is it considered to be its own entity? Indeed, using language as the bases of intelligence is a good step however it does not answer the conception of a mind. Artificial Intelligence can imitate but since it cannot create its own distinctive answer, therefore Lady Lovelace state that it is lacking conscious and cannot be the basis of a mind. If we look at a human mind, one can input data from various sources and create mental images that our sentient mind can handle and process appropriately. With that in mind, we sound and process exactly like a computer or an intelligent program, where we differentiate from is how we make an output. This is where the scale for a weak A.I. and a strong A.I come into play. From Leavis he referee death in life in Section V Death by Water as being death is inevitable and the life giving water thirsted for (and the water out of which all life comes) cannot save (183). Telling readers that Leavis is saying that death is still going to happen and that there is no way of sustaining life again. Also headed in that direction about the theme of death in life is Langbaum. He expresses death in life in Section II as it self as unprecedented and meaningless (232). This notifies that Langbaum and Leavis are on the same page, which is that death is inevitable and meaningless. Whereas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Survey Of Image Based Artistic Rendering Techniques A survey of Image Based Artistic Rendering techniques Introduction Paintings have been known to capture the human imagination since the pre historic times. A skilled artist can evoke a range of human emotions and can portray things like appearances, playing of light in surfaces, mood etc. on the paper. Similarly, with the invention of photography in the 19th century, the artists got a new medium for their expressiveness and simulated artistic diversity. The field of non photorealistic rendering started off in the early nineties with the aim of using the power of computer graphics and create an interface between the two fields. With the exponential rise in computational power and the advances made in computer graphics, the field has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, researchers increasingly sought to automate the process and enhance the sophistication of stroke placement. The work by Haeberli[2] enabled people to transform photographs into impressionist paintings with minimal labor. The user clicked on a photo, and the underlying system automatically placed the virtual strokes by using the color of the source image. They also added noise to results to enhance the impressionist effect. However, the first automatic solution was a tool proposed by Litwinowicz [3]. This is the paper which we review first in this report. Processing Images and Video for an Impressionist Effect This paper aims producing impressions of the original image, i.e. images that give a sense of an original image without reproducing it. They happen to have a painterly feel to them and appear as they have been hand painted. They produce painterly animation from video clips automatically after the user specifies a few parameters to generate he first frame. After the user s preferences are taken into account and he approves the first frame, the whole video segment is automatically produced without further user intervention. The biggest challenge in videos is to produce a temporally coherent style of animation which avoids flicker and takes into account the movement of objects in the video. This paper was the first one to use optical flow to compute the per pixel movement in images and use it to generate a sequence which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Salem Witch Trials Essay The Salem Witch Trials was a very dark period in our history that occurred in the colony of Salem, Massachusetts. These trials began in February 1692 and ended in May of 1693. There were over two hundred individuals who were accused of practicing witchcraft. Of those two hundred accused, nearly twenty innocent souls were lost. This was one of the most severe cases of mass hysteria in recorded history. There was a great effort exhorted by the Massachusetts General Court to declare a guilty verdict, that the framers of the United States Constitution went to great lengths to never let this type of tragedy occur again; commonly known as the eighth amendment. Remarkably so, some may argue that there were similarities in Salem and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What would be considered mental disorders in today s society, no clear medical diagnosis could be deduced. Partly due to fear and also not being able to diagnose these fits, members of the community suspected witchcraft to be the culprit. Little did the community know what was about to transpire in their town over the next year. The Salem Witch Trials officially began in February 1692 when the afflicted girls accused Tituba, Ms. Good and Ms. Osborne of witchcraft. Tituba confessed to witchcraft. Not only did she confess, she also said there were many others who were working for Satan. This triggered the beginning and that is when the fears of the Salem colonists were realized. These girls did not all show symptoms at one time. The first girl to start experiencing symptoms was Betty Parris. She was followed by Abigail Williams, Ann Putnam Jr., Mary Walcott and Mercy Lewis (History of Massachusetts). These girls were throwing tantrums, hiding under furniture and contorting to pain. Since panic and fear set in, witchcraft was the easy choice to make. In today s medical science, these girls would have been diagnosed with boredom or epilepsy. Although at the time the cause was unknown, these symptoms were probably brought on from eating rye infected with fungus. The three victims were not the only ones accused. There were numerous cases of scapegoating running prevalent. Since Tituba confessed, there was little legal ground she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
