Online Recruitment Landscape Like many other industries digital has had a massive impact on recruitment Seeing increasing shifts to online in all areas of recruitment Job advertsing Job seeking Head hunting Employers, recruiters and job seekers have all had to change their behaviour to accommodate digital The key differences between how things used to be and now includespeed, access and more information Speed – easier to find, post and reply to jobs Access – easier to find the right candidate through a much larger talent pool More Information – easier to learn more about candidates

Online has widely fragmented the market with a wealth of choices open to employers, recruiters and job seekersAdvertise job on job boards Many more job boards and job sites to choose from – general and ones that deal with specific industries Unfiltered Filtered via background checks on social media Make a hire! Paid Advertise via recruitment agencies Company has a job opening Paid Filtered Free Post job on company website Unfiltered Applications followed by interview process Free/Paid Advertise job on social media Many social media sites to advertise on, distribute job opening via ‘word of mouth’ or advertise to a select group Unfiltered
How Do Job Seekers Job Seek? Job seekers find the jobs via the routes highlighted in the previous slide Job seekers have no real loyalty to any website, company or recruiter  Priority is to find the job and nothing else  There is high competition on general job boards / websites Need decent copy to make the job attractive Good candidates generally know where to look i.e. industry websites Candidates will research via various social media etc. Websites are seen as a shop window for candidates Is this place worth me applying for? What is like to work there (culture)? What are the people like? What clients do they have? What will I be expected to do? Will this place progress my career? { The proliferation of information available online means that candidates can research, prepare and learn about the employermuch easier than before
Employer Choices Just as more research power is afforded to candidates, the same is true  of employers Utilise social media and the Internet to find out more about their background  What are their habits views etc. outside of the CV What do others think of them If they make the information public then shouldn’t be a problem Use the information to help you decide Breaking HR good practice?  Build up a picture of the candidate
Using Social Media For Recruitment
Facebook Largest social media network with over 500 million users worldwide UK alone has 26 millions users Gender distribution is representative to the UK population Age distribution shows that majority are of a working age Facebook can assist recruitment in two main ways Set-up a company fan page Use targeted PPC advertising
How To Use Facebook For Recruitment Set-up a company fan page – easy to do as JDA already have one Spread the news about a job via ‘word of mouse’ Interaction is the key Create discussions about what it’s like to work at JDA Interested Facebook users will join the group to hear about new jobs etc. Post updates and links about new job openings – this will appear in news updates for users who ‘like’ the page Post photos of work events and the office
How To Use Facebook For Recruitment Advertise a job via Facebook PPC Target  users on wide range of demographics and interests Spend as much/little as you want Cheap clicks to direct traffic to the website
Twitter Twitter has c.108 million users worldwide 300,000 new users sign up everyday Twitter users send 55 million tweets a day (640 per second!) 140 characters is the maximum length of a single tweet Twitter can assist recruitment in two main ways Regular linking to the job page of company site Access to wide ranging talent base via specific Twitter job sites
How To Use Twitter For Recruitment Tweet regularly from the company Twitter account Include links to the company website with the job details Users who are interested in the company will ‘follow’ and receive updates Followers may also re-tweet  Tweet using hash tags #jobs #marketing The more you update the better – simply type your message and copy and paste links
How To Use Twitter For Recruitment Quite a few dedicated Twitter job sites Twitter account with 1000’s of followers Associated website  Some require a small fee whilst others are free Need to set-up a separate account with the jobs site Easy to post a job and link it through to company website
LinkedIn LinkedIn has 70 million members worldwide 36 million outside the US Average age of 43 years old  Highly educated audience of working professionals LinkedIn can assist recruitment through Headhunting talent Advertise jobs Background checking candidates Advertising on relevant job boards Finding like minded peers for advice
Using LinkedIn For Recruitment Set-up your profile and build your network – the more the connections you have the more useful LinkedIn will become Join groups Increase your potential to send messages to those who share your group Join in discussions on the groups – ask for/give advice Post jobs on the group job boards (free) Advertise on the LinkedIn jobs board (small fee) Headhunt talent via a number of variables using advanced search

Online Recruitment Landscape Like many other industries digital has had a massive impact on recruitment Seeing increasing shifts to online in all areas of recruitment Job advertsing Job seeking Head hunting Employers, recruiters and job seekers have all had to change their behaviour to accommodate digital The key differences between how things used to be and now includespeed, access and more information Speed – easier to find, post and reply to jobs Access – easier to find the right candidate through a much larger talent pool More Information – easier to learn more about candidates

Job seekers find the jobs via the routes highlighted in the previous slide Job seekers have no real loyalty to any website, company or recruiter Priority is to find the job and nothing else There is high competition on general job boards / websites Need decent copy to make the job attractive Good candidates generally know where to look i.e. industry websites Candidates will research via various social media etc. Websites are seen as a shop window for candidates Is this place worth me applying for? What is like to work there (culture)? What are the people like? What clients do they have? What will I be expected to do? Will this place progress my career? { The proliferation of information available online means that candidates can research, prepare and learn about the employermuch easier than before

Employer Choices Just as more research power is afforded to candidates, the same is true of employers Utilise social media and the Internet to find out more about their background What are their habits views etc. outside of the CV What do others think of them If they make the information public then shouldn’t be a problem Use the information to help you decide Breaking HR good practice? Build up a picture of the candidate

Facebook Largest social media network with over 500 million users worldwide UK alone has 26 millions users Gender distribution is representative to the UK population Age distribution shows that majority are of a working age Facebook can assist recruitment in two main ways Set-up a company fan page Use targeted PPC advertising

How To Use Facebook For Recruitment Set-up a company fan page – easy to do as JDA already have one Spread the news about a job via ‘word of mouse’ Interaction is the key Create discussions about what it’s like to work at JDA Interested Facebook users will join the group to hear about new jobs etc. Post updates and links about new job openings – this will appear in news updates for users who ‘like’ the page Post photos of work events and the office
  • 15. How To Use Facebook For Recruitment Advertise a job via Facebook PPC Target users on wide range of demographics and interests Spend as much/little as you want Cheap clicks to direct traffic to the website

Twitter Twitter has c.108 million users worldwide 300,000 new users sign up everyday Twitter users send 55 million tweets a day (640 per second!) 140 characters is the maximum length of a single tweet Twitter can assist recruitment in two main ways Regular linking to the job page of company site Access to wide ranging talent base via specific Twitter job sites

How To Use Twitter For Recruitment Tweet regularly from the company Twitter account Include links to the company website with the job details Users who are interested in the company will ‘follow’ and receive updates Followers may also re-tweet Tweet using hash tags #jobs #marketing The more you update the better – simply type your message and copy and paste links

How To Use Twitter For Recruitment Quite a few dedicated Twitter job sites Twitter account with 1000’s of followers Associated website Some require a small fee whilst others are free Need to set-up a separate account with the jobs site Easy to post a job and link it through to company website

LinkedIn LinkedIn has 70 million members worldwide 36 million outside the US Average age of 43 years old Highly educated audience of working professionals LinkedIn can assist recruitment through Headhunting talent Advertise jobs Background checking candidates Advertising on relevant job boards Finding like minded peers for advice

Using LinkedIn For Recruitment Set-up your profile and build your network – the more the connections you have the more useful LinkedIn will become Join groups Increase your potential to send messages to those who share your group Join in discussions on the groups – ask for/give advice Post jobs on the group job boards (free) Advertise on the LinkedIn jobs board (small fee) Headhunt talent via a number of variables using advanced search

Rules of Social Media Engagement Coherent message across all social media Message needs to be the same across each public touchpoint Each network has its pros and cons therefore need to assess the company’s needs and organise accordingly Link-up your social media in order to save time on updates Engage your community Encourage debate Give feedback Ask questions
