survey. Three hundred and two heads of households were interviewed in houses
selected by systematic random sampling and birth registration certificate checked
for children below 11 years. The study showed that awareness of birth registration
was high in the study population and the major source of awareness is through
government agencies and mass media play very little role. The awareness of death
registration is however very low. Out of the 217 (71.9%) households that had
children below 11 years, total children below 11 years is 473 children, 354 (74.8%)
of them had their births registered and only 202 (57.1%) had registration certificate
during the interview. Of the 209 households that recorded deaths in the household
within the last 10 years only 24 (11.8%) households reported registering deaths in the

other books in Histories as it is in this book that we predominantly experience

This portrait of Mycerinus as a kind ruler is an interesting one and appears again in
Diodorus Siculus Library of History. However, despite his stated low opinion of
Herodotus earlier work, Diodorus account of Egypt undoubtedly has Herodotean
threads running through it and for this reason alone cannot be used to support the
story of Mycerinus presented in Herodotus Histories. Alan B. Lloyd has suggested
that the view of Mycerinus as a benign ruler may have come about due to the
relatively small size of his pyramid in contrast to those of Chephren and Cheops.
This argument is given further credence when it is considered that one of the
theories proposed for the reduction in size of Mycerinus pyramid was that the
Pharaoh began to devote more resources to the construction of temples. However,
Herodotus tale of Mycerinus can just as easily be read, albeit in an unusual way, as
an example of the dangers of hubris. This tale also contains some of the motifs and
anti motifs of tyrants as described in the speech of Otanes at 3.80. The conventions
in Otanes speech appear frequently when Herodotus talks about despotic rulers in
Histories. This theory of a hubristic Mycerinus character formed as part of a
tyrannical tradition in Histories will be dealt with later in this paper.

Brother gains confidence in Doodle, and now believes in his own ability to do
nothing wrong. In Old Woman Swamp, Brother also creates a development program
for Doodle. Brother and Doodle s relationship is beginning to flourish, Doodle and I
spent lots of time thinking about our future. We decided that when we were grown
we d live in Old Woman Swamp and pick dog tongue for a living...Mama and
Daddy could come and live with us if they wanted to. He even came up with the
idea that he could marry Mama and I could marry Daddy (Hurst 4). The daily trips
Doodle and Brother take to Old Woman Swamp together slowly strengthen their
bond. The beauty of Old Woman Swamp allows Doodle to imagine a perfect world.
His innocence causes him to not understand that his idea of a perfect world is
never going to become a reality. Brother is old enough to know everything Doodle
is imagining is a lie, but the picture he is painting is so serene, that all Brother
could think to do was to agree. Doodle cherishes every second he has with his older
brother, and Brother realizes how precious his little brother really is. Old Woman
Swamp is a land of fantasy, whose warmth and comfort gives the two brothers a safe
haven.
