How Write A Compare And Contrast Essay
Writing an essay on the intricacies of crafting a compare and contrast essay can be quite
challenging. The task involves navigating through the complexities of organizing thoughts,
selecting appropriate subjects for comparison, and effectively conveying similarities and
differences. One may find it daunting to strike the right balance between providing insightful
analysis and avoiding a mere listing of facts.
To start, there's the challenge of choosing suitable topics that not only possess relevant
similarities and differences but also captivate the reader's interest. The process demands careful
research and a deep understanding of the chosen subjects, which can be time-consuming and
mentally taxing.
The actual writing process itself requires a delicate touch. Crafting a coherent introduction that
sets the tone and presents a clear thesis statement can be a formidable task. Maintaining a logical
flow throughout the body of the essay while seamlessly integrating comparisons and contrasts
can be quite demanding. It involves a constant back-and-forth between the two subjects,
ensuring that the reader can easily follow the line of reasoning without becoming confused or
overwhelmed.
Moreover, the challenge extends to the conclusion, where summarizing the key points and
leaving a lasting impression requires finesse. Striking the right balance between brevity and
completeness is crucial, and crafting a conclusion that ties everything together can be an intricate
task.
Throughout this process, writers may grapple with the constant need for clarity and conciseness,
trying to avoid unnecessary repetition or verbosity. The pressure to present unique insights and
avoid clichГ©s adds an additional layer of difficulty.
In essence, writing an essay on how to write a compare and contrast essay demands not only a
solid understanding of the principles involved but also a high level of writing proficiency. It's a
task that requires patience, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to engage the reader
throughout the entire essay.
If facing such challenges becomes overwhelming, it's worth considering alternative solutions.

Analysis Of The Deer At Providencia By Annie Dillard
The Deer At Providencia and God In The Doorway What is God s true purpose in
our lives? Throughout Annie Dillard s collection of short stories entitled Teaching A
Stone To Talk, she endeavors to answer this and many other questions. This query in
particular is most prominent in her two short stories The Deer At Providencia and God
In The Doorway. God In The Doorway presents the two different personalities God
can be perceived as having while predominantly displaying one personality. The
Deer At Providencia displays the other personality God is rumored to have through
a clever and effective motif. Overall, God takes center stage throughout the writings
of Dillard especially in the aforementioned short stories. Prior to delving into the
mystical worlds that Dillards essays present it is first essential to understand her
mindset. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1945 and was the eldest of
three siblings but was the only one who attended a Presbyterian Church. She stopped
attending said Church as a teen due to what she described as hypocrisy but remained
religious. However following her graduation from Hollins College, Dillard claimed to
be spiritually promiscuous and in many of her stories hints of other religions can be
seen throughout. In 1988 Dillard announced that she was a Roman Catholic and even
won a prize given only to Catholic authors. Around 1999 she denounced parts of the
Christian doctrine but maintained that she remained close to the Christian faith
Socrates and Virtue
At the beginning of Meno Socrates and Meno are discussing what they think the true
definition of virtue is. They debate over this matter for quite some time and Meno
continues to throw definitions, of what he thinks virtue is, at Socrates. It seems like
every time Meno would come up with what he thought virtuewas Socrateswould
shoot it down. Socrates would not come out and say this is not right, he would
merely ask him a series of questions in order for Meno to realize it on his own. One
after another Socrates continues to find problems with Meno s reasoning behind his
definitions. After the fourth attempt they finally decide they would try to start over
with a clean slate in order to find out what virtue truly is. At this point... Show more

Socrates says that all activities done by humans depends on the soul itself, and if
you are going to do some beneficial then it involves wisdom to a certain extent. So if
in order to do something beneficial you need wisdom and they defined virtue as
being something beneficial, therefore making the valid point that virtue is wisdom,
for the most part ( Sections 87e В– 89b).
Virtue is what you make of it. Yes, to some extent, I agree with Socrates with virtue
as wisdom, but that is about as far as you can go with it. Really it is what you are
willing to make of it in your own life. There are good types of virtues and then
there are harmful types of virtue. Now you cannot really say that there are
beneficial types of virtue and bad types of virtue. The reason behind this is
because, to some people, virtue can be beneficial in a bad way instead of the
beneficial that most people first think of. It varies from person to person. There is
really no way of putting one basic definition on virtue. Virtue encompasses so many
different things, it would be nearly impossible for us to slap a definition on it
without finding a glitch or something wrong with the definition. There will always be
someone there to find a problem with it, because is that not the way our society
works? Somebody comes up with one thing, then after a while someone comes up
something wrong with that idea and proposes a new,

The work of Frankenstein and the novel cannot be underestimated in the

Abandoned Husband Spouse Analysis
Meaning of Absent Spouse The provisions of this article are of American origin, and
must be construed in the light of American Jurisprudence. An identical provision
(except for the period) exists in the California civil code (section 61); California
jurisprudence should, therefore, prove enlightening. It has been held in that
jurisdiction that, as respects the validity of a husbands subsequent marriage, a
presumption as to the death of his first wifecannot be predicated upon an absence
resulting from his leaving or deserting her, as it is his duty to keep her advised as
to his whereabouts. The spouse who has been left or deserted is the one who is
considered as the spouse present ; such spouse is not required to ascertain the
whereabouts of the deserting spouse, and after the required number of years of
absence of the latter, the former may validly remarry. It is the duty of the spouse
who has deserted to keep the abandoned spouse posted as to his whereabouts. It is
therefore the subsequent marriage of the abandoned spouse that falls under the
class of voidable marriages, and not the re marriage of the deserting spouse, after
the period of seven years has lapsed. A wife who was residing with her husband in a
foreign country and there deserted him and went to live with her... Show more content

Bruce Springsteen is one of the most thoughtful, profound and articulate artists in

With the release of Born in the USA in 1984, just under a decade after his break
through Born to Run, which included many of the same lyrical connotations, Bruce
Springsteen propelled himself into a cultural icon. When analysing Springsteen s
transformation into a rock hero we must focus on the time Born in the USA was
released. The eighties could be looked upon as being the peak of post modern
culture, a population that had given up hope and no longer looked to the past.
Postmodernists argue that the stories traditionally told about how humans live in
the world are clearly arbitrary, relative and self contradictory and are as a
consequence incapable of serving as the basis for a coherent politics, culture or
ethics. In other words, history in all its forms global or local, conservative or
progressive is bunk, mere stories with greater or lesser rhetorical force contained in
texts which are as deconstructable as any other human artefact. (Ashplant,

Normally heart beat is measured in beats per minute bpm . Heart beat is the number
of contractions (heart beats) of heart in one minute.
Heart beat varies for everyone as listed follows :
Childhood : 120 bpm
`Adult male: 70 bpm
Adult female: 75 bpm
But the reference range is between 60 bpm (bradycardia) 100 bpm (tachycardia) for
aged people.
Pulse rate is the direct way to measure heart rate, but it can vary when some heart
beats do not have much cardiac output. At that time heart rate may be higher than the
pulse rate.
3.PACEMAKER
An external pacemaker that has a pulse generator to generate an extrinsic electrical
impulse, causing the heart muscle to depolarise and then contract ; its rate is preset
regardless of the heart s intrinsic activity. It can be temporary or implanted
An artificial pacemaker located outside the body, the primary types are transcutaneous
and transvenous.

Indian Oil Industry Is The Backbone Of A Modern Economy
The oil refining industry is the backbone of a modern economy (Senevirante,
2006). Refined petroleum product remain fundamental to our economic life in
everybody s daily life and economic activities of a nation (Wauquier and Favennec,
2001) ranging from domestic cooking to transportation, employment, etc. In terms
of the refining capacity India ranks eighth in the world (U.S. EIA 2009). The
private sector owns about 38% of total capacity while the public sector owns the
rest. End of 2013, India has 4.35 million bbl/day of refining capacity, making it the
second largest refiner in Asia after china. There are projections that there would be
an increase in the refining capacity to 6.3 million bbl/day by the year 2017. Indian
oil Corporation Limited is the major company which controls most of the refineries
in India. In total there are 22 refineries in India. The total refining capacity of India
has increased from 175.9 Million metric tons (MMT) in 2007 to 215.06 Million
metric tons (MMT) in the year 2014. Reliance industries a private owned petroleum
company has the largest refining complex in the world and it is located in Gujarat
in India. It has a capacity of 1.24 million barrels per day. Based on the current
proposed growth and projections India plans to add 1.6 million bbl/day of refining
capacity by the end of 2015. India is steadily emerging as an international destination
for oil refining as the investment is less compared to other Asian counterparts.

French Indian War Relationship
After the French Indian War the relationship between England and the colonies of
North America made a gradual change from allies to adversaries. This relationship
change can be attributed to consequences of the French and Indian War, the various
intellectual and religious movements taking place, and the their differences in
attitudes towards authority.
The consequences of the French and Indian War began to weigh heavily on both
parties. The first issue faced was how to manage and assimilate the territories gained
from France. Parliament declared the Proclamation Line in 1763, which forbade all
settlement past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. This line was not well
received by all colonists. Our nations first president, George ... Show more content on

One of these movements was Anglicization. This movement brought on a consumer
revolution, gentrification, spread of print media, and an admiration for all things
English. This movement started to blur the lines of social classes. The consumer
revolution made luxury items more accessible to commoners. An explosion of print
media allowed information to be better distributed among more people in a shorter
amount of time. What had previously been reserved for the wealthy was now
available for the middle class.
The Enlightenment was another of these movements; this brought forth ideas like
rationalization, pragmatism, and moderation. The movement helped lay the base for
a separation of church and state. Many of the nation s most influential founders found
inspiration from the enlightenment.
Another of these movements was the Great Awakening. Religion became revived and
itinerant preaches became popular. The Great Awaking in the American colonies led
to changes in religious understanding. Just like Anglicization, the Great Awakening
also challenged the class system. Religion became more prevalent among women,
African Americans and Indians, and the poor. Some slave owners for the first time
were teaching their slaves to read so they could study the bible. Just like luxury items
and access to literature, religion was no longer
The Production Of Automobile Production
According to Amighini and Gorgoni (2014), Automobile production is one of the
operations in the manufacturing segment of production that is highly spatially
disintegrated, characterized by production activities that are broken down into
different units and take place in various countries in the world. The production
processes are highly dispersed. Amighini and Gorgoni (2014) explain reasons for the
dispersed nature of the production system. The automobileindustry has been made to
implement modern sourcing techniques stemming from the growth in leading edge
inputs in contemporary cars, such as computer and electronic facilities, according to

The automobile industry has experienced different progressions. Marukawa (2013)
makes reference to the World Motor Vehicle Statistics. According to the World Motor
Vehicle Statistics, gathered by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association,
some countries that had a vast collection of automobile corporations in 2010 were the
United Kingdom, which had 21 automobile manufacturers, and Malaysia, which had
26 automobile manufacturers. However, China had to a greater extent the highest
number of automobile manufacturers in the world, according to the World Motor
Vehicle Statistics. According to Marukawa (2013), an important characteristic of the
Chinese automobile industry is the magnitude of small scale producers. Marukawa
(2013) discovered that car and engine production are mostly vertically fragmented in
China. Research by Marukawa (2013) showed that firms that want to enter the
industry could outsource production inputs such as engines and design, which
minimizes the entry restrictions for new firms in the industry. The minimization of
entry restrictions, and the rising demand for automobiles in China favored entry into
the automobile industry, according to Marukawa (2013).
Research by Marukawa (2013) discovered that in the 1990s, corporations that
belonged to the government had the ease of protecting domestic markets through
governing the operations of the domestic producers. However, households have now
become the primary consumers of cars, and as a result,

The mural of Kanye West kissing Kanye West has been painted over by the artist

Kanye West kissing his wife Kim Kardashian West at the Grammy s in 2015. That
picture was Photoshopped by Buzzfeed and they replaced Kim with a picture of the

Doublethink In George Orwell s 1984
Throughout part one of George Orwell s 1984, Winston Smith is characterized as a
convict of thoughtcrime. He thinks negatively of Oceania s Party and silently rebels
by writing his beliefs in a diary. Although writing isn t considered illegal, detection
of such action is punishable by death (6). While writing down whatever came to
mind, Winston wrote the line DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER over and over again,
later exclaiming how he didn t care if he was shot in the back of the neck for doing so
(18). I compare to the characteristics of Winston Smith through the beliefs that define
thoughtcrime. Although I do not live in a world where thinking negatively is
punishable under law, Winston and I do share common ideologies. For instance,
Winston and I hold comparative opinions of the word doublethink. Both Smith and I
find it questionable, and don t understand how one can hold two contradictory ideas
in the mind simultaneously. An example of a modern day doublethink statement is
you want to fit in with others. It s not a difficult concept to grasp until you come
across the contradictory statement: you should try to stand out from the crowd. Both
concepts alone are applicable to anyone, but they are both simultaneously established
as rules that guide the individual. Examples of doublethink in... Show more content

classrooms, a nursery, a cafe, and a baptismal. In addition to Sunday worship, the
church is used for weddings, VBS, committee meetings, prayermeetings, Bible

Analysis Of The Movie Pre Trial Release On The United...
Race Effects Paulsen s review in Pre Trial Release in the United States examined
one of the worst episodes of racial disturbance in the history of the United States
when over 4,000 people were arrested and over half were charged with felonies in
Los Angeles, California (1966, pg. 109). Paulsen provides a clear cut charge to a
question many ask, bail problems are constitutional problems in the United States
(1966, pg. 110). In this particular case, the prosecutors argued for denial of bail, that
the police needed more time to correlate information they had on persons in
custody... that persons released on bail might resume looting (Paulsen, 1966, pg.
110). The judge found that the defendants could be released on bail, but made bail
$3000 higher than normal for the crimes they were arrested for (Paulsen, 1966).
Paulsen s conclusion was foreshadowing the effects that the bail system was having
on America, statutes in the next decade are likely to improve the administration of
the bail system by providing the means for individualizing bail decisions and by
providing release under various conditions other than bail (1966, pg. 125). Paulsen
does discuss the thoughts judges may have when they make their decisions, citing,
some trial judges are probably influenced by the fear that the accused will tamper
with the evidence. Other judges believe that a taste of jail before releasing the
accused on probation is beneficial (1966, pg. 114). While racial disparity is a huge
Termites Signs
Termites are silent invaders that enter your home, colonize, and feast on the wood. As
you might expect, these tiny insects can cause huge problems for your home. From
structural damage to minor cracks or holes, termites can easily eat their way
throughout the wood in your home and cost you thousands of dollars in repair bills.
Unfortunately, termites are often hard to detect. Luckily, there are some telltale signs
that will notify you that you need termite control immediately.
So what signs should you be looking for? Here are three warning signs that you might
be sharing your house with termites:
1. Insect Wings
Perhaps one of the most noticeable signs of termites are insect wings. During their
reproductive cycle, they will swarm. However, they only fly for a short distance so
if they are already in your home, you ll likely see the aftermath. After flying, they ll
take their wings off. If there is a colony living in your home, you ll likely find piles
of these insect wings. Usually the wings will be located near windows and
doorways, as they attempt to enter (or leave) your home. You can tell they are
termite wings, and not ant wings, because both wings will be the same size. ... Show

Small Tubes
Another sign of termites are small tubes throughout your lawn or anywhere dirt meets
your home. However, you might also find these tubes near food sources, such as
trees. Also known as mud tubes, these small tubes are where the termites live. The
tubes create a humid environment, which termites thrive in. If you find any of these
tubes on your property, carefully remove a section of the tube with a small shovel or
hoe. If termites begin walking out of the tube, you have a live colony on your
property. If not, it s still worth calling an exterminator; as the termites may have
simply relocated.

Essay about Cleaner Alternative Transportation
When people think pollution, most think straight to automobiles producing harmful
emissions which contribute to global warming or climate change. Well, this is true.
Motor vehicles account for about half of the toxic air pollutant emissions in the
United States. A large part of these toxic air pollutants is the need to rely on oil as a
fuel source. The fact that oil is still the main source of energy for things like
automobiles, when there are other alternatives like electric vehicles, creates many
problems within our society. The United States dependency on oil causes incidents
like the Deepwater Horizon. The estimated amount of oil released stood at 4.9
million barrels and polluted the area significantly. We as a country need to cut... Show

Automobiles have since evolved and become almost a necessity for people. While
they have become of major importance, they also hold many drawbacks to our
environment. They are the leading cause of transportation emissions and they
generate a majority of America s global warming emissions. Even though air
pollution emissions from motor vehicles have dropped considerably since 1950,
Automobiles still produce about 60% of US transportation emissions and generate
nearly 30% of America s global warming emissions (Car Emissions and Global
Warming). The average conventional automobile can be seen as fairly gas inefficient.
Compared to a hybrid electric vehicle, conventional cars produce about 1.5 times
more greenhouse gas emissions and costs more in fuel costs. Within a 100 mile trip,
conventional vehicles produce about 87 lb CO2, hybrid electric vehicles produce 57
lb CO2, plug in hybrid electric vehicles produce 62 lb CO2, and all electric vehicles
produce 54 lb CO2 (see table 1). This shows that hybrid and electric cars produce less
greenhouse gas emissions and costs less for fuel, compared to a conventional pure
gas powered vehicle.

ages of four months and one year. It usually spontaneously resolves in children by
one year of age. GERD occurs when gastric contents are transferred from the stomach
to the esophagus in a backflow manner, which results in tissue damage to the
esophagus. It is more common in infants due to a short esophagus, an immature
gastrointestinal system, and a diet consisting largely of liquids. Aside from cell and
tissue damage of the esophagus, GERD can also cause complications such as failure
to thrive, respiratory problems, and dysphagia. A high prevalence rate has been linked
with premature... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wong s Nursing Care of Infants and Children states that no therapy is typically
needed for infants due to the disorder usually resolving spontaneously; however, if
GERD becomes severe and interferes with the infant s ability to thrive, modifications
are needed. Avoidance of certain foods such as caffeine, citrus, and tomatoes is the
first step in the modification process. Vigorous play after feedings and feeding before
bedtime should be avoided. Lifestyle modifications such as weight control and small,
frequent feedings can help control the symptoms. Keeping the infant in the upright
position after feedings has been determined to help control unpleasant symptoms of
GERD. Similar to the research study, Wong s Nursing Care of Infants and Children
recommends that feeding the infant thickened formula with one teaspoon to one
tablespoon of rice cereal per ounce of formula helps with regurgitation and irritability
after crying. Continuous NG tube feedings until surgery can be performed and is a
last resort measure for the infant that has severe reflux and failure to thrive
(Hockenberry Wilson, 2015, p. 1076 1077). Pharmacological measures are similar
between the research study and the textbook as well. Both recommend H2 receptor
antagonists such as ranitidine or famotidine and proton pump inhibitors such as
omeprazole, which reduces gastric hydrochloric

stuffed his cigar in his mouth to free his hand and showed three fingers. His hand
signal started a chain of activity on the benches with each man sliding down to fill
the vacant seats. He wrote the address on a worksheet and gave it to the three next
in line. He returned behind his newspaper as they walked out the door. Billowing
cigar smoke rising above the desk was a sign of him. Emmanuel made it back to the

was giving birth to fresh rot to replace old rot. The refuse mounds were the

people ventured to sojourn. In a short while, they trudged through knee high

Physical Therapy Ethics
Segment One Values, Ethics, and Behavior of Physical Therapy To be a successful
physical therapist, a person must have seven core values outline by the American
Physical Therapy Association. The seven core values from accountability to social
responsibility shows what needs to be important in the eyes of a physical therapist.
The individual must also follow a strict code of ethics outlined by certain rules and
procedures. The code of ethics shows the obligation that a physical therapist makes to
their patients. Finally, for the individual to fully successes in any environment must
have a certain professional behavior depending on the atmosphere which they work
in. If a physical therapist works with kids, then the PT needs to have a calm... Show

These rules set the ethical obligations determined by the APTA. The rules are set into
eight principles that follow the seven core values. As stated by the code of ethics, it
defines the ethical principles that form the foundation oh physical therapist practice
in patient/ client management, consultation, education, research, and administration.
The first of eight principles state that physical therapists shall respect the inherent
dignity and rights of all individuals. This means that confidential information must
remain between the patient and PT. Second principle is physical therapists shall be
trustworthy and compassionate in addressing the right and needs of patients
/clients. This brings back the core value of Altruism and how the PT needs to care
deeply about the client. Principle three says how Physical therapists shall be
accountable for making sound professional judgments. This means that PT needs
to always be making the right choice and how to approach rehabilitation for
different patients. The last important principle is that physical therapist always
need to be relearning and refining their knowledge, skills, and abilities. The
education aspect of becoming a PT is life long as new research is being developed
every year. The PT needs to be able to change their practice if new knowledge is
Sports Equality
The nine principles of sports governance each play an important role in the
operations of sports entities, but I believe the two most important policies are
Solidarity and Transparency and Communication. Solidarity, in relation to sports,
refers to fair distribution of revenues so that competitions are not one sided and all
teams have the opportunity to recruit talented athletes. The NFL and NBA do a
very good job with solidarity. Both of these leagues have revenue sharing, which
helps improve competitive balance across the league. (Miller) If these two leagues
didn t have revenue sharing and no salary cap, all the best players would drift
towards the larger market teams because they generate more money. (Miller) In the
NBA especially, the small market teams wouldn t be able to develop their young
players who have a chance to be stars because they wouldn t be able to pay them...

However, since the NBA has a salary cap and revenue sharing to make the league
fair, each team can develop their young players and pay them when the time comes.
The MLB, on the other hand, is lacking with respect to solidarity because they have
little revenue sharing and no salary cap. The big market teams like the Los Angeles
Dodgers dominate the sport while the small market teams lose their star players
because they cannot match the salaries or generate the same amount of revenue to
keep quality players on the roster. I don t agree with the way the MLB is
structured, in big part because I am a fan of a small market team (Cleveland
Indians) and we don t have the type of money to pay our star players. When
comparing the payrolls of the Dodgers and the Indians, it simply isn t fair. The
Dodgers are over $200 million and the Indians are way below $100 million in

What I Want Out Of Life And College
People are categorized all their life by themselves, their peers, and strangers. Each
person is put in a category based on race, age, gender, etc.. In Circles of My
Multicultural Self, I put twelve different identifiers and descriptors that defines who I
am right now. They are the following: middle class, complex, hard worker/driven,
agnostic, girlfriend, generous/kind, athletic, adopted, female, futurecounseling
psychologist, and Asian (Korean). The three most impactful identifiers and
descriptors are complex, girlfriend, and hard worker/driven. Complex is mostly
due to what has been going on in my life, and it describes how my personality,
Girlfriend describes one of the most relevant events that is going in my life. Hard
worker/driven goes hand in hand together as it allows me to focus on what I want
out of life and college.
Complex is the most impactful right now. The reason I ranked complex as number
one is due to the fact it is the core essence of me. It explains my personality and my
past. My personality can range to completely bubbly to stoic and quiet. It depends
on who I am with and where I am. I m one those people who don t open up that
much. I like to stay private with a lot of my issues whether if something is bothering
me or if I m really stressed out about something. Because of this, I usually act like
nothing s bothering me most of the time. It is putting on a mask or a forefront as I
like to handle it by myself. My past is also complex. One of
Analyzing Dante s Inferno, Up On Your Feet Passage
Dante Says Up
(A critique on Dante s The Inferno, Up On Your Feet Passage)
As the great Norman Vincent Peale once said, The trouble with most of us is that
we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism. In Dante s The
Inferno, he creates a vivid image of what his version of hell looks like. Hell isn t the
typical hell, which they talk about in movies. You have to put everything else away
when you start to read about Dante s The Inferno. In Canto XXIV, circle eight, the
passage, Up On Your Feet, lives. This passage is a passage that is full of inspiration,
and drives a person to be their very best. In Dantes, The Inferno, specifically the Up
On Your Feet, passage (pg.207) can be critiqued in many ways, three of these... Show

You are the only person that is control of your body. No one can make you do
anything that you don t want to do. It is your own fault if you make the bad choices,
but you have to have the strength the choose the right ones. Once you know that you
are strong enough to pick the right choices then you are strong enough to do anything.
Lastly, within the Up On Your Feet, passage the final thing you see in the passage
while critiquing it is understanding. Understanding that no one is exactly perfect.
Everyone is fighting their own battles just like you. There is a ladder long enough
to climb: this much is not enough. Basically what this line within the passage is
trying to say is that, everyone has their problems, and once you face one problem
another one is coming. Life is a never ending string of problems, but with those
problems comes a million blessings. The understanding within this passage that
Dante says is the words that everyone wants to say, but is too scared to say. Facing
your fears is one of the scariest things that you will ever have to face, but once you
conquer your fear, its also the most rewarding.
Overall, there are many things that you could critique about the Up On Your Feet,
passage. First, in the Up On Your Feet, passage, there are many lines that go within
the inspiration category during the critique. Next, self drive is an extreme theme
within this passage of Dante s The Inferno while you are critiquing the passage itself.

The Tragedy Of William Shakespeare s The Crucible
Act Three has ended and Elizabeth has been imprisoned for witchcraft soon after the
hysteria began. The frigid, unilluminated cell, with its harsh stone walls surrounds
Elizabeth, alongside her depressive, lonely thoughts. The only light permitted to
enter the claustrophobic room bleeds in through the cracks around the perimeter of
the wooden, bolted doorframe. Elizabeth sits hunched over in the farthest corner
from the door. Dust covers the useless, ragged blanket that is the only possession
she has been allowed to have. Her eyes are dim and hopeless. She reflects solemnly
on her situation and how she came to be here.
Elizabeth Proctor: [whispering] What have I ever done to deserve this treatment?
What crime have I ever committed? Why am I convicted of this ungodly crime?
[Raises her voice slightly with disdain and conviction.] Witchcraft! What nonsense.
The whole town is mad because of a few silly, manipulative girls convicting
innocents of witchcraft, and with no evidence! People are being hanged for crimes
they did not commit! I am only here because of that silly poppet that Mary Warren
gave to me, though I would not be surprised if Abigail was involved, though that is

Compare and contrast the various personality theories: Psychodynamic perspective,
Behavioral and Social Cognitive perspective, Humanistic perspective, and Trait
perspective) and discuss which perspective you think is most applicable. Support
your argument (based on what you learned, examples, etc).
Psychodynamic Perspectives view personality as being primarily unconscious and as
developing in stages. Psychodynamic theorists believe that behavior is merely a
surface characteristic and that to truly understand someone s personality we have to
explore the symbolic meanings of behavior and the deep inner workings of the mind.
These ideas were sketched by the architect of psychoanalytic theory Sigmund Freud.

Because behaviorist believe that personality is learned and often changes depending
on experiences and situations, it follows that, by rearranging experiences and
situations, the individual s personality can be changed.
Social Cognitive perspective states that behavior, environment and cognitive factors,
such as thoughts, memories, and expectations, are important in understanding
personality. Like the behavioral approach of Skinner, the social cognitive view relies
on empirical research in studying personality. But this research has focused not just
on observable behavior but also on the cognitive factors that influence what we are
like as people. Alber Bandura and Walter Mischel are the main architects of social
cognitive theory.
Humanistic perspective Stresses that a person s capacity for personal growth,
freedom to choose one s own destiny, and positive human qualities. Humanistic
psychologists believe that each of us has the ability to cope with stress, to control
our lives, and to achieve what we desire. Each of us has the ability to break through
and understand ourselves and our world; we can burst the cocoon and become a
butterfly, say the humanists.
Trait perspective States that personality consists of broad, enduring dispositions that

Sex, Gender, And Gender
The meaning of sex and gender is often thought of as the same thing, when in fact it
the meanings between these two words are different. Sex is the characteristics that
are set apart from male and female. The characteristics include primary sex traits
related to the reproductive system such as: hormones, chromosomes, the genitalia,
and various other ways. However, the secondary sex traits that are not directly based
on the reproductive system. These secondary traits consist of characteristics such as:
breasts, facial hair, body structure, and many more. Genderis known as the way
people act and feel about masculinity and femininity. Gender is what people use as a
way to identify themselves. Gender is what society considers suitable for its males
and females.
To begin with, while growing up I was mostly associated with girls, the reason for
this was because there was no boys in our family that was around our age. My
parents helped shaped my gender role by the toys and other various activities they
involved me in. For instance, when I was about three years old my mom enrolled
my siblings and I into a ballet dance studio. After being dressed up in an all pink
outfit with my hair done in a little bun, I felt like I belonged there. My mom had
always dressed my siblings and I in bright and colorful clothing. My siblings and I
were allowed to express and interact in different activities despite if they were
feminine or masculine. However, as I have grown up and became more aware of
Welfare System Abuse
In our society today, we face many problems such as racism, police brutality, and
government issues. One problem that I feel is being over looked is the abuse of
the welfare system. Coming from a very low income county, I see how the system
is abused, and I also see how it helps those in need. People who are capable of
working and supporting their family on their own take advantage of the system to get
free money. In 2013, the Census Bureau said that there were fewer full time working
Americans than were on welfare. It is absolutely astonishing that there are more
people on welfare, who supposedly are unable to work, than capable working
people. Americans who truly are unable to work or support their family should have

There are 109,631,000 Americans on welfare, and only 105,862,000 full time
working Americans. The fact that the amount of people on welfare outnumbers those
who work, shows how our country is deteriorating. Some individuals on welfare take
advantage of the system and exchange the things given to them, such as food stamps,
for drugs or alcohol. I think anyone who does that should be taken off of welfare. In
order to prevent that from happening in the future, I believe a system should be made.
The system would determine whether an individual is deserving of government
assistance or not. In order to be on welfare, there would be a drug test that has to be
passed to even be considered. If passed, there would be quarterly drug tests that
have to be passed in order to continue to get help from the government. There
should also be a standard set that determines if the severity of the person s disability
is worthy of governmental assistance. If they meet all the criteria and pass their
quarterly drug tests, then they deserve to be on welfare. Those who do not meet the
criteria and are qualified to work, should get a job in order to support themselves and

As a global power, the United States must focus on regional factors that could cause
negative ripple effects to the global economy. The third U.S. national interest is the
preservation of democracy and an open society. The Russian aggression against
Ukraine challenges the ideal of self rule in the region.
To ensure U.S. national interests are met, threats, opportunities, and assumptions
must be addressed. In regard to the threats, Putin could further Russian military
aggression, either with direct Russian engagements or escalating support to rebels
in Ukraine. Economically, Putin can pre emptively stop the flow of gas and oil to

In terms of opportunities, transforming Russia s aggressive posture would also

Historical Significance Of Japanese History
History: Prehistoric Japan dates back to circa 10,000 BCE where the roots of
fishing and pottery making began; however, official Japanese history was first
recorded in 1st century BCE (Japan, 2016). In the 1930 s and 40 s, Japan became
more prominent in the global stage due to its participation in the attack on Pearl
Harbor (1941) and the U.S. coordinated Hiroshima bombings (1945) during the
World Wars (Japan, 2016). Since the 1950 s, Japan has been recognized as one of
the strongest economies in the developing and globalizing world. The fact that
Japan is an island has historically made it difficult to invade and has allowed the
country to withstand conflict between other countries. This has been demonstrated
in various imperialistic conflicts in certain parts of Asia. Places of Interest There
are many notable places in Japan such as Mt. Fuji, Nachi Falls, Sagano Bamboo
Forest, and Aogashima (Ma, 2015). These places have both historical significance
and natural beauty. Mt. Fuji is one of the tallest volcanoes in Japan (UNESCO,
2013). Life evolves around the dormant volcano, as its large presence has become
an icon and artistic muse for everyday life in Japan (Smithsonian Institution, 2013).
Nachi Falls is an orange, Buddhist and Shinto shrine. It is accompanied by a 133

What Caused Water Scarcity In China
The North China Crisis
Most developed countries think of water as a minor thing, but China one of the
leading countries of industrialization doesn t think that way. China, one of the leading
countries in Industrialization, but because of its overpopulation it causes water
scarcity. However, they are getting water from underground lakes called aquifers, but
they are pumping more water than what can be replenished. China s water scarcity is
mainly in the Northern region of China and so they decided to move water from the
south to the north this is called the South to North Water Diversion Project . Three
main causes of China s water scarcity crisis is Population, Global Warming, and

First of all China has the largest population of all countries on Earth. However that
doesn t make China the largest country therefore leading to overpopulation.
Overpopulation is when the given area is populated with tons of people. ChinaВґs
population growth also affects China because the larger the population the more
water is needed because people can t live without water (Doc B). ChinaВґs
population growth affects the water scarcity crisis because people can t live without
water therefore the larger amount of people there are the faster the water is being
used up (Doc B). Also, ChinaВґs urbanization causes the country to waste more
water, for usually people living in cities would use more water than those who live
in rural areas. (Doc B). Therefore when rural people move into urban areas the
amount of water used will increase. Another reason for the water scarcity crisis is
global warming. Global warming is when there is a gradual increase in overall
temperature. This causes water to evaporate quicker therefore drying up major
rivers and lakes. Additionally causing fresh water glaciers to melt. In fact
according to MSNBC report, glaciers in the Qinghai Tibet plateau are shrinking
approximately 7% each year due to global warming (Doc A). This can cause water
scarcity because the water stored up in the glaciers will fall into the ocean and can
cause huge floods wasting water and causing water
Metho Drinker Analysis Essay

result of time and the problems associated with addiction. Judith Wright was born in
1915 and died in 2000 at the age of 85. She was a prolific Australian poet, critic and

Words similar to this are used throughout the poem which makes the reader feel
empathy to the drinker. The poem is somewhat ironic in that it talks death and the
drinker being ostracized from society, both very cold subjects. Under the death of
winters leaves . On the other hand the metho his white and burning girl who he
desires is a way of escaping reality. The irony is that the metho brings him warmth.
The language in the poem has extremely powerful qualities which invoke vivid
imagery. Metaphor, repetition, assonance and various punctuation techniques are
used to highlight the poems themes and mood. Metho Drinker s prayer is by far
the most powerful language in the poem. He is asked to be relieved of the weight
and waterfall ceaseless Time that batters down my weakness . This metaphor evokes
time as a never ending burden on the metho drinker. Light is compared to knives;
whose thrust I cannot turn , which suggests the pain that light brings to the drinker.
When the metho drinker drinks his white and burning girl, his woman of fire , a
metaphor for methylated spirits, his prayer is answered. Time, the never ending
burden is also destroyed in the metaphor to eat the nerve that tethers him in time . By
drinking the methylated spirits he is escaping time, bringing himself into non
existence. He is uneasy under her kiss/and winces from that acid of her desire . This

their home and go to a relocation center. That must ve been very hard and painful
for them, to say goodbye to everything they knew. The older children went off into
the military, and I wanted to wish them the best, hoping they d come home safe.

Veterans With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
To the millions of veterans that have served this country by leaving behind their
world as they once knew it, thank you. Entering the world of a soldier comes with
a culture of warriors who are taught and trained to be ready to kill, but also ready to
save, heal, and comfort (Hansen). Sergeant Hansen served in the United States
Marine Corps for nine years and was deployed three times, once to Iraq and twice
to Afghanistan. He was honorably discharged in April of 2014, however like many
other veterans, his military experience has impacted his new civilian life due to
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. It is paramount that a proper system
concerning military veterans of the United States is established for the process of re
acclimating soldiers back to a civilian lifestyle. Within the current system and
process that is being used, veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are
discharged without the support and guidance they need to efficiently return to the
civilian world. Since 2001, 2.7 million troops have been deployed to the war zone in
Iraq and Afghanistan ( US Veterans and Military ). Iraq veterans are known as OIF,
Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans, while Afghanistan Veterans are known as OEF,
Operation Enduring Freedom veterans. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are the
longest combat operations since Vietnam ( Mental Health Effects ). Many veterans
who have served in either Iraq or Afghanistan suffer from mental health problems. Out

Chemical Reactions And The Chemical Reaction
Introduction
Chemistry is a branch of science commonly defined as the study of the structure,
properties, and reactions of the chemical elements and the compounds they form
(The American Heritage Science Dictionary, 2002). This definition is very general
and covers a range of study areas, including those that are an asset to society.
Chemical reactions are studied by many chemists as they common occurrences in
everyday life (Stewart, 2014). Without chemical reactions people would be unable to
perform simple tasks that are essential for quality of life and even life itself, such as
cooking, lighting a match and breathing (Helmenstine, 2015). A chemical reaction
occurs when a chemical change takes place, producing new substances. However, all
chemical reactions are different and vary greatly in the time it takes for them to occur
(Chem4kids.com, 2015).
A Reaction rate is the speed it takes for a chemical reaction to occur. That is, how
fast a reactant is used up or a product is formed (BBC, 2014). Rates of reaction are
essential in important tasks such are medicine administration and it is therefore
crucial for scientists to understand how they work and what affects them (Lofts,
2012). The mechanics of reaction rates is based around the theory of collision,
proposed by Max Trautz and William Lewis in the early 1900 s. The theory suggests
that reactant particles must collide for a chemical reaction to occur, the more
collisions that occur, the faster the reaction rate will
The Life of Aretha Louise Franklin
Aretha Louise Franklin also known as the Queen of Soul was born on March 25,
1942 in Memphis Tennessee. She is known for being a solo singer, and also a very
talented pianist. Soul, R B, Jazz, and Gospel are genres that she sings. Throughout
her career she signed with Colombia Records and has released many popular
singles that would now be considered classical. Aretha became the first female
artist to be introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. Up until this day
Aretha is still alive living at age seventy two and has won many Grammy awards
and considered one of the most honored artist. Aretha was born into a family that
attended church, her father who was a Baptist preacher and gospel singer parents.
She was the fourth of five children, and lost her mother from a heart attack, four
years after her parents had gotten divorced. Aretha was then moved with her dad
and siblings to Michigan where they attended a church named, Detroit s New
Baptists. Her father was recognized as a preacher and her talent was starting to
peek out when she would sing at her Father s congregation. She was mostly self
taught herself and was known to be a child prodigy, with a nice voice and a gifted
pianist. A few days after Franklin had just turned just fifteen years old, she gave
birth to her oldest son, Clerence. Two years later her second child was born, whom
she named Edward. The father of Clerence and Edward was never known, because
Aretha never revealed the man s identity. Both of her
Picnic Critique
At Prospect Theater in Modesto, California on the Sunday afternoon of September
18, 2016, the play Picnic was presented. This play was depicted on Labor Day in
the 1950 s, and it demonstrated to the audience how the apple does not fall far from
the tree in mother Flo and daughter Madge s life decisions. In order to make this
evident to the audience, the director Michael Hewitt capitalized on the stage setting,
the soundeffects, and costumes. The stage setting played an integral part in the
production of Picnic . The days were tracked by Nikko Linares playing Bomber
because he delivered the newspaper; this was a seemingly small characterthat played
a large role because it showed the quick and almost reckless actions of Madge a the
end of the play. The quaint stage s space fully maximized its potential with the use of
two homes with porches, a retro looking chair and a tree stump inbetween them, and
a white picket fencethat seemed to connect the two homes. The homes were both
housing only women from very different walks of life. The house where Becky
Bjerke playing Madge resides was facing the audience and away from the train
tracks. The director did this to symbolize how her... Show more content on

The actors and actresses were all wearing clothes that fit them well. The socio
economic status of each character was depicted of each of their outfits; Alan was
dressed the best as he was the most wealthy. At the beginning of the play, Madge
was wearing a red and white dress that almost resembled a table cloth for a picnic
table (this was quite fitting for the Labor Day picnic). Although, she changed into
her new pink gown that her mother had bought for her for another occasion, so
when her mother had her take it off, it symbolized her being done with Alan. From
there she changed into a blue dress that was very plain and cheap looking; this
symbolized how she had moved onto

Globalization Of The American Style Fast Food
Globalization is one of the most popular issues that have been discussed through the
world by the sociologist for decades.(James A. D, Dick. P, Yongseok Seo 2006)
According to John Tomlinson s (Tomlinson 2006) cognition of globalization. He
interprets that:
Globalization is a complex process because it involves rapid social
change that is occurring simultaneously across a number of dimensions in the world
economy, in politics, in communications, in the physical environment and in culture
and each of these transformations interact with the others. (p. 1)
As far as I am concerned, globalization is happening around daily life. For example,
McDonalds, they start from a small restaurant in California to one of the world s
leading food service retailers, with more than 35000 restaurants in more than a
hundred countries.(McDonald 2014) McDonalds spread the American style fast food
worldwide. This can be seen as a globalization of food culture.
Since the societies are becoming more and more alike nowadays and leading to a
phenomenon known as globalization. Some people afraid that globalization will lead
to the loss of cultural identify while some think it can have a good impact on the
societies. Based on the bookгЂЉGolden Arches East: McDonald s in East
AsiaгЂ‹which indicates the advantages of the food globalization by providing the
view
that it is not only spreading the food culture but also blending with the locals and the

Imagery in The Road Not Taken Essay
In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken , Frost shows the everyday human struggle
to make a choice that could change the course of one s life. In his poem, a person
has the choice to take one road or the other. One road is worn out from many
people taking it, and the other is barely touched, for fewer have taken that road.
Throughout the poem, the speaker learns that just because so many other people
have done one thing, or walked one way, does not mean everyone has to.
Sometimes you just have to go your own way. In the poem, a person is walking
along a path in an autumn forest in the early hours of the morning, when he stumbles
upon a fork in the road. The speaker wishes that he would be able to travel down
both of them, but he has places... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many key aspects to this poem. The speaker, or the person who is
experiencing the events in the poem, is a traveler walking through the woods.
There is no specific occasion, although the poem does mention that the speaker did
not have enough time to travel both roads on that one day. The setting of the poem
in time is told in the line Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, (1), it tells us that
the setting is autumn, because the leaves are changing, and have turned yellow.
The setting in place is a forest, although it Frost does not specify where the forest
is. In this poem, I believe the theme is that you have to jump at an opportunity
when you get it, or you may never get that opportunity again. Moving on to the
tone of the poem, I believe that it is wistful, and that the speaker might be looking
back on his days, and realizing that he taking the other road might have made all of
the difference in his life. There is very good diction in this poem, as some words
express Frost s feeling more than other s would ve. For example, in the line Two
roads diverged in a yellow wood, (1), Frost really emphasizes the two roads
separating from each other. In another line In leaves no step had trodden black (12),
trodden is a more appropriate than another word such as crushed or pulverized,
because it is the past form of trod, or to step in something, and gives an image of
human feet stepping on the freshly fallen leaves. In the poem, many instances
Ffa Reflection Paper
My mom sends me inspirational quotes when I am faced with a challenge in my
life. In high school I faced a challenge that I thought would mark the end of my
career in FFA, or Future Farmers of America. It was officer election time in my
FFA chapter for my senior year and there was a lot being thrown my way. Losing the
people who I thought were my best friendswas the main problem I faced after the
election. I was the new chapter presidentand I was afraid of what was going to
happen with my friendships because of my position. I thought about quitting and
running the other way in order to avoid it all. I told my mom what was going on and
she sent me this quote, F.E.A.R. has two meanings, Forget Everything And Run, or

I knew it would be difficult I just didn t know how difficult it was going to be.
I walked out of class later that day and was confronted by the group of girls that I
had called my best friends. They told me that I didn t deserve the position and that
I should just quit and save myself from failing proving that I really didn t deserve
the position. I did think about quitting, I thought about it a lot actually because I
was afraid my friends were right and that I would fail, and I was also afraid of
them, but then I went back and looked at the quote my mom sent me, Forget
Everything And Run, or Face Everything And Rise, at that point I didn t know
what the best thing to do would be. I talked to one of my Ag teachers about it after
school that day and I told him I didn t know what to do. He told me to face it head
on, and that he would be right by my side helping me face each obstacle that was
thrown my way. When my friends found out I wasn t going to give up and run
away from the challenges I was faced with they started spreading rumors about me
and talking about how rigged the elections were if someone like me could ve
gotten president. I was hurt, and the more they talked bad about me the more I
wanted to quit and run away from it all and have all the hate stop, but I kept going
back to the quote my mom sent me and I remembered all I had to do was face the
challenges, rise above, and deal with them the best I
The Youngest US President ever to Take Office
John F. Kennedy was voted into office during the election of 1960. To date, Kennedy
is the youngest person to be elected President. Surprisingly, at the start of the
campaign, Kennedy was a long shot to win the Democratic nomination. Without a
distinguished presence in the political world and the stigma of being Roman
Catholic, Kennedy had a lot of ground to conquer. In not just politics, but society,
religion is and was a controversial issue. Kennedy, who was Catholic, struggled
against critics who were anti Catholicism. It was often insisted that Kennedy would
turn to the pope for orders and therefore run our country based upon the Church.
Kennedy overcame this obstacle by reassuring voters he would not act according to
the Church... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a nation that is expected to be the leaders of other nations, he would not settle
for second. In the case of exploring space, that was exactly where we were. The
Soviet Union was far ahead of the United States in its space program. With Project
Apollo, Kennedy was determined to play catch up and asked congress to invest
more that twenty two billion dollars into the project. The end goal was to have an
American man on the moon before the end of the decade. Neil Armstrong was that
man in 1969. Not only was the Soviet Union viewed as a threat with their space
program being more advance, but they also had nuclear missile sites being built.
An American spy plane secretly photographed evidence that both Cuba and the
Soviet Union were building nuclear missile sites. President Kennedy remained
collected and directed that a naval blockade was placed around Cuba which would
prevent the Soviets from obtaining more military supplies. On the brink of what
could have been a nuclear war, there was an agreement made, the Soviets agreed to
dismantle their weapons sites in exchange for a pledge from the United States not to
invade Cuba. Tension slowly began to lessen as time passed and the agreement
remained respected. Another one of Kennedy s problems he was confronted during
Presidency was racial discrimination. In 1954 the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled that
segregation in public schools would be no longer
Communication Is The Most Vital Part Of Human...
Non verbal communication is not universal and often misunderstood. While
understanding another culture dialect or accent appears difficult, the effects of non
verbal communication, directly or indirectly, is equally difficult and sometimes
convey as offensive to someone from another culture. Although language has always
been the most important form of communicating, this paper will explain how
intercultural communicationis the most vital part of human communicating through
channels of different cultures, both verbal and nonverbal.
In order to thoroughly communicate with different cultures it is imperative to
understand
intercultural background and traditions. Often referred to as the melting pot,
the United States has many different cultures around the world resides in one central
environment. Influenced by many cultures such as Native American, Latin American,
Africans and Asians (Zimmerman, 2015), the trends and issues of others cultures
enlarged
our broader daily. The Garden Salad Metaphor arrived because many immigrants who
come
to live and conform to our culture and also continue to express their own way of
living and
cultures allowing the United States more acceptable to changes (Lustig Koester,
2012), but
communicating to those from different cultures must be learned quickly to avoid
disrespect
of another belief system. Non verbal communication is not universal and often

How Writing Has Changed Throughout The Past Century
The nature of writing has changed in the past century. While writing still remains a
form of visual communication, much of this change has been a result of
technological advancements such as, from pen to paper or from a typewriter to a
networked computer. The changes and expansion in the ways we are able to write
today have brought about changes in writingpedagogyas well. The teaching of writing
has been part of formal schooling in the United Statesfor over 200 years (Kean 7).
One major pedagogic change in United States education has to do with the
implementation of the Common Core State Standards. These standards have led to a
change in the instruction of writing in schools. This paper, will focus on instructional
changes of writing over time and current expectations for writing abilities as whole.
The earliest finding of when a focus was placed on writing instruction can be traced
to an interdisciplinary conference on writing research in 1978 at Carnegie Mellon
University (MacArthur, Graham, and Fitzgerald 187). In 1980, the research presented
at the conference was published in the book Cognitive Processes in Writing which
lead to an increased interest in the cognitive nature of writing. One model of writing
instruction presented in this book asks adults to think out loud when composing
(MacArthur, Graham, and Fitzgerald 187). Through analyzing the verbalization of
participants using this model, researchers began to study cognitive processes. This

  • 2. Analysis Of The Deer At Providencia By Annie Dillard The Deer At Providencia and God In The Doorway What is God s true purpose in our lives? Throughout Annie Dillard s collection of short stories entitled Teaching A Stone To Talk, she endeavors to answer this and many other questions. This query in particular is most prominent in her two short stories The Deer At Providencia and God In The Doorway. God In The Doorway presents the two different personalities God can be perceived as having while predominantly displaying one personality. The Deer At Providencia displays the other personality God is rumored to have through a clever and effective motif. Overall, God takes center stage throughout the writings of Dillard especially in the aforementioned short stories. Prior to delving into the mystical worlds that Dillards essays present it is first essential to understand her mindset. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1945 and was the eldest of three siblings but was the only one who attended a Presbyterian Church. She stopped attending said Church as a teen due to what she described as hypocrisy but remained religious. However following her graduation from Hollins College, Dillard claimed to be spiritually promiscuous and in many of her stories hints of other religions can be seen throughout. In 1988 Dillard announced that she was a Roman Catholic and even won a prize given only to Catholic authors. Around 1999 she denounced parts of the Christian doctrine but maintained that she remained close to the Christian faith
  • 3. Socrates and Virtue At the beginning of Meno Socrates and Meno are discussing what they think the true definition of virtue is. They debate over this matter for quite some time and Meno continues to throw definitions, of what he thinks virtue is, at Socrates. It seems like every time Meno would come up with what he thought virtuewas Socrateswould shoot it down. Socrates would not come out and say this is not right, he would merely ask him a series of questions in order for Meno to realize it on his own. One after another Socrates continues to find problems with Meno s reasoning behind his definitions. After the fourth attempt they finally decide they would try to start over with a clean slate in order to find out what virtue truly is. At this point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates says that all activities done by humans depends on the soul itself, and if you are going to do some beneficial then it involves wisdom to a certain extent. So if in order to do something beneficial you need wisdom and they defined virtue as being something beneficial, therefore making the valid point that virtue is wisdom, for the most part ( Sections 87e В– 89b). Virtue is what you make of it. Yes, to some extent, I agree with Socrates with virtue as wisdom, but that is about as far as you can go with it. Really it is what you are willing to make of it in your own life. There are good types of virtues and then there are harmful types of virtue. Now you cannot really say that there are beneficial types of virtue and bad types of virtue. The reason behind this is because, to some people, virtue can be beneficial in a bad way instead of the beneficial that most people first think of. It varies from person to person. There is really no way of putting one basic definition on virtue. Virtue encompasses so many different things, it would be nearly impossible for us to slap a definition on it without finding a glitch or something wrong with the definition. There will always be someone there to find a problem with it, because is that not the way our society works? Somebody comes up with one thing, then after a while someone comes up something wrong with that idea and proposes a new,

An identical provision (except for the period) exists in the California civil code (section 61); California jurisprudence should, therefore, prove enlightening. It has been held in that jurisdiction that, as respects the validity of a husbands subsequent marriage, a presumption as to the death of his first wifecannot be predicated upon an absence resulting from his leaving or deserting her, as it is his duty to keep her advised as to his whereabouts. The spouse who has been left or deserted is the one who is considered as the spouse present ; such spouse is not required to ascertain the whereabouts of the deserting spouse, and after the required number of years of absence of the latter, the former may validly remarry. It is the duty of the spouse who has deserted to keep the abandoned spouse posted as to his whereabouts. It is therefore the subsequent marriage of the abandoned spouse that falls under the class of voidable marriages, and not the re marriage of the deserting spouse, after the period of seven years has lapsed. The eighties could be looked upon as being the peak of post modern culture, a population that had given up hope and no longer looked to the past. Postmodernists argue that the stories traditionally told about how humans live in the world are clearly arbitrary, relative and self contradictory and are as a consequence incapable of serving as the basis for a coherent politics, culture or ethics. In other words, history in all its forms global or local, conservative or progressive is bunk, mere stories with greater or lesser rhetorical force contained in texts which are as deconstructable as any other human artefact. This relationship change can be attributed to consequences of the French and Indian War, the various intellectual and religious movements taking place, and the their differences in attitudes towards authority. The consequences of the French and Indian War began to weigh heavily on both parties. The first issue faced was how to manage and assimilate the territories gained from France. What had previously been reserved for the wealthy was now available for the middle class. The Enlightenment was another of these movements; this brought forth ideas like rationalization, pragmatism, and moderation. The movement helped lay the base for a separation of church and state. However, China had to a greater extent the highest number of automobile manufacturers in the world, according to the World Motor Vehicle Statistics. Research by Marukawa (2013) showed that firms that want to enter the industry could outsource production inputs such as engines and design, which minimizes the entry restrictions for new firms in the industry. The minimization of entry restrictions, and the rising demand for automobiles in China favored entry into the automobile industry, according to Marukawa (2013). Research by Marukawa (2013) discovered that in the 1990s, corporations that belonged to the government had the ease of protecting domestic markets through governing the operations of the domestic producers. Then ОІf = fB вЉ‚ C : f в€’1(B) 2 О Іg is a semi ring bornology on C: Proof. Let B1; B2 2 ОІf: Then there exist B1 A; B2 A 2 ОІ such that f(B1 A) = B1 and f(B2 A) = B2 so f(B1 A + B2 A) = f(B1 A) + f(B2 A) = B1 + B2 and f(B1 A В· B2 A) = f(B1 A) В· f(B2 A) = B1 В· B2, therefore ОІf is a semi ring bornology on C. It is known that ОІ = Ti2I ОІiis a bornology, we must show that it also is a semi ring bornology. Let B1; B2 2 ОІ, then B1; B2 2 ОІi for any i 2 I, hence B1 + B2 2 ОІi and B1 В· B2 2 ОІi since ОІi are semi rings bornology. Therefore B1 + B2 2 ОІ and B1 В· B2 2 ОІ, i.e., the additive and multiplication operation are bounded. A morphism of bornological semi rings : (A; ОІA) ! Paulsen provides a clear cut charge to a question many ask, bail problems are constitutional problems in the United States (1966, pg. 110). In this particular case, the prosecutors argued for denial of bail, that the police needed more time to correlate information they had on persons in custody... that persons released on bail might resume looting (Paulsen, 1966, pg. 110). The judge found that the defendants could be released on bail, but made bail $3000 higher than normal for the crimes they were arrested for (Paulsen, 1966). Paulsen s conclusion was foreshadowing the effects that the bail system was having on America, statutes in the next decade are likely to improve the administration of the bail system by providing the means for individualizing bail decisions and by providing release under various conditions other than bail (1966, pg. 125). Paulsen does discuss the thoughts judges may have when they make their decisions, citing, some trial judges are probably influenced by the fear that the accused will tamper with the evidence. Other judges believe that a taste of jail before releasing the accused on probation is beneficial (1966, pg. 114). While racial disparity is a huge
  • 19. Termites Signs Termites are silent invaders that enter your home, colonize, and feast on the wood. As you might expect, these tiny insects can cause huge problems for your home. From structural damage to minor cracks or holes, termites can easily eat their way throughout the wood in your home and cost you thousands of dollars in repair bills. Unfortunately, termites are often hard to detect. Luckily, there are some telltale signs that will notify you that you need termite control immediately. So what signs should you be looking for? Here are three warning signs that you might be sharing your house with termites: 1. Insect Wings Perhaps one of the most noticeable signs of termites are insect wings. During their reproductive cycle, they will swarm. However, they only fly for a short distance so if they are already in your home, you ll likely see the aftermath. After flying, they ll take their wings off. If there is a colony living in your home, you ll likely find piles of these insect wings. Usually the wings will be located near windows and doorways, as they attempt to enter (or leave) your home. You can tell they are termite wings, and not ant wings, because both wings will be the same size. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Small Tubes Another sign of termites are small tubes throughout your lawn or anywhere dirt meets your home. However, you might also find these tubes near food sources, such as trees. Also known as mud tubes, these small tubes are where the termites live. The tubes create a humid environment, which termites thrive in. If you find any of these tubes on your property, carefully remove a section of the tube with a small shovel or hoe. If termites begin walking out of the tube, you have a live colony on your property. If not, it s still worth calling an exterminator; as the termites may have simply relocated. 3. Fecal

Essay about Cleaner Alternative Transportation When people think pollution, most think straight to automobiles producing harmful emissions which contribute to global warming or climate change. Well, this is true. Motor vehicles account for about half of the toxic air pollutant emissions in the United States. A large part of these toxic air pollutants is the need to rely on oil as a fuel source. The fact that oil is still the main source of energy for things like automobiles, when there are other alternatives like electric vehicles, creates many problems within our society. The United States dependency on oil causes incidents like the Deepwater Horizon. The estimated amount of oil released stood at 4.9 million barrels and polluted the area significantly. While they have become of major importance, they also hold many drawbacks to our environment. They are the leading cause of transportation emissions and they generate a majority of America s global warming emissions. Even though air pollution emissions from motor vehicles have dropped considerably since 1950, Automobiles still produce about 60% of US transportation emissions and generate nearly 30% of America s global warming emissions (Car Emissions and Global Warming). The average conventional automobile can be seen as fairly gas inefficient. Compared to a hybrid electric vehicle, conventional cars produce about 1.5 times more greenhouse gas emissions and costs more in fuel costs. Within a 100 mile trip, conventional vehicles produce about 87 lb CO2, hybrid electric vehicles produce 57 lb CO2, plug in hybrid electric vehicles produce 62 lb CO2, and all electric vehicles produce 54 lb CO2 (see table 1). This shows that hybrid and electric cars produce less greenhouse gas emissions and costs less for fuel, compared to a conventional pure gas powered vehicle. • 21. Nonpharmacological Research Synthesis Essay Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, otherwise known as GERD, has long been determined as a frequent occurrence among children, particularly infants between the ages of four months and one year. It usually spontaneously resolves in children by one year of age. GERD occurs when gastric contents are transferred from the stomach to the esophagus in a backflow manner, which results in tissue damage to the esophagus. It is more common in infants due to a short esophagus, an immature gastrointestinal system, and a diet consisting largely of liquids. Aside from cell and tissue damage of the esophagus, GERD can also cause complications such as failure to thrive, respiratory problems, and dysphagia. A high prevalence rate has been linked with premature... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wong s Nursing Care of Infants and Children states that no therapy is typically needed for infants due to the disorder usually resolving spontaneously; however, if GERD becomes severe and interferes with the infant s ability to thrive, modifications are needed. Avoidance of certain foods such as caffeine, citrus, and tomatoes is the first step in the modification process. Vigorous play after feedings and feeding before bedtime should be avoided. Lifestyle modifications such as weight control and small, frequent feedings can help control the symptoms. Keeping the infant in the upright position after feedings has been determined to help control unpleasant symptoms of GERD. Similar to the research study, Wong s Nursing Care of Infants and Children recommends that feeding the infant thickened formula with one teaspoon to one tablespoon of rice cereal per ounce of formula helps with regurgitation and irritability after crying. Continuous NG tube feedings until surgery can be performed and is a last resort measure for the infant that has severe reflux and failure to thrive (Hockenberry Wilson, 2015, p. 1076 1077). Pharmacological measures are similar between the research study and the textbook as well. Both recommend H2 receptor antagonists such as ranitidine or famotidine and proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole, which reduces gastric hydrochloric

Metaphor, repetition, assonance and various punctuation techniques are used to highlight the poems themes and mood. Metho Drinker s prayer is by far the most powerful language in the poem. He is asked to be relieved of the weight and waterfall ceaseless Time that batters down my weakness . This metaphor evokes time as a never ending burden on the metho drinker. Light is compared to knives; whose thrust I cannot turn , which suggests the pain that light brings to the drinker. When the metho drinker drinks his white and burning girl, his woman of fire , a metaphor for methylated spirits, his prayer is answered. Time, the never ending burden is also destroyed in the metaphor to eat the nerve that tethers him in time . By drinking the methylated spirits he is escaping time, bringing himself into non existence. He is uneasy under her kiss/and winces from that acid of her desire . This shows

Entering the world of a soldier comes with a culture of warriors who are taught and trained to be ready to kill, but also ready to save, heal, and comfort (Hansen). Sergeant Hansen served in the United States Marine Corps for nine years and was deployed three times, once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan. He was honorably discharged in April of 2014, however like many other veterans, his military experience has impacted his new civilian life due to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. It is paramount that a proper system concerning military veterans of the United States is established for the process of re acclimating soldiers back to a civilian lifestyle. Within the current system and process that is being used, veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are discharged without the support and guidance they need to efficiently return to the civilian world. Since 2001, 2.7 million troops have been deployed to the war zone in Iraq and Afghanistan ( US Veterans and Military ). Iraq veterans are known as OIF, Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans, while Afghanistan Veterans are known as OEF, Operation Enduring Freedom veterans. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are the longest combat operations since Vietnam ( Mental Health Effects ). Many veterans who have served in either Iraq or Afghanistan suffer from mental health problems. Out of 103,788 veterans
  • 41. Chemical Reactions And The Chemical Reaction Introduction Chemistry is a branch of science commonly defined as the study of the structure, properties, and reactions of the chemical elements and the compounds they form (The American Heritage Science Dictionary, 2002). This definition is very general and covers a range of study areas, including those that are an asset to society. Chemical reactions are studied by many chemists as they common occurrences in everyday life (Stewart, 2014). Without chemical reactions people would be unable to perform simple tasks that are essential for quality of life and even life itself, such as cooking, lighting a match and breathing (Helmenstine, 2015). A chemical reaction occurs when a chemical change takes place, producing new substances. However, all chemical reactions are different and vary greatly in the time it takes for them to occur (Chem4kids.com, 2015). A Reaction rate is the speed it takes for a chemical reaction to occur. That is, how fast a reactant is used up or a product is formed (BBC, 2014). Rates of reaction are essential in important tasks such are medicine administration and it is therefore crucial for scientists to understand how they work and what affects them (Lofts, 2012). The mechanics of reaction rates is based around the theory of collision, proposed by Max Trautz and William Lewis in the early 1900 s. The theory suggests that reactant particles must collide for a chemical reaction to occur, the more collisions that occur, the faster the reaction rate will

  • 43. Picnic Critique At Prospect Theater in Modesto, California on the Sunday afternoon of September 18, 2016, the play Picnic was presented. This play was depicted on Labor Day in the 1950 s, and it demonstrated to the audience how the apple does not fall far from the tree in mother Flo and daughter Madge s life decisions. In order to make this evident to the audience, the director Michael Hewitt capitalized on the stage setting, the soundeffects, and costumes. The stage setting played an integral part in the production of Picnic . The days were tracked by Nikko Linares playing Bomber because he delivered the newspaper; this was a seemingly small characterthat played a large role because it showed the quick and almost reckless actions of Madge a the end of the play. The quaint stage s space fully maximized its potential with the use of two homes with porches, a retro looking chair and a tree stump inbetween them, and a white picket fencethat seemed to connect the two homes. The homes were both housing only women from very different walks of life. The house where Becky Bjerke playing Madge resides was facing the audience and away from the train tracks. He interprets that: Globalization is a complex process because it involves rapid social change that is occurring simultaneously across a number of dimensions in the world economy, in politics, in communications, in the physical environment and in culture and each of these transformations interact with the others. (p. 1) As far as I am concerned, globalization is happening around daily life. For example, McDonalds, they start from a small restaurant in California to one of the world s leading food service retailers, with more than 35000 restaurants in more than a hundred countries.(McDonald 2014) McDonalds spread the American style fast food worldwide. This can be seen as a globalization of food culture. Since the societies are becoming more and more alike nowadays and leading to a phenomenon known as globalization. • 46. Imagery in The Road Not Taken Essay In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken , Frost shows the everyday human struggle to make a choice that could change the course of one s life. In his poem, a person has the choice to take one road or the other. One road is worn out from many people taking it, and the other is barely touched, for fewer have taken that road. Throughout the poem, the speaker learns that just because so many other people have done one thing, or walked one way, does not mean everyone has to. Sometimes you just have to go your own way. In the poem, a person is walking along a path in an autumn forest in the early hours of the morning, when he stumbles upon a fork in the road. The speaker wishes that he would be able to travel down both of them, but he has places... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many key aspects to this poem. The speaker, or the person who is experiencing the events in the poem, is a traveler walking through the woods. There is no specific occasion, although the poem does mention that the speaker did not have enough time to travel both roads on that one day. The setting of the poem in time is told in the line Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, (1), it tells us that the setting is autumn, because the leaves are changing, and have turned yellow. The setting in place is a forest, although it Frost does not specify where the forest is. In this poem, I believe the theme is that you have to jump at an opportunity when you get it, or you may never get that opportunity again. Moving on to the tone of the poem, I believe that it is wistful, and that the speaker might be looking back on his days, and realizing that he taking the other road might have made all of the difference in his life. There is very good diction in this poem, as some words express Frost s feeling more than other s would ve. For example, in the line Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, (1), Frost really emphasizes the two roads separating from each other. In another line In leaves no step had trodden black (12), trodden is a more appropriate than another word such as crushed or pulverized, because it is the past form of trod, or to step in something, and gives an image of human feet stepping on the freshly fallen leaves. In the poem, many instances

Without a distinguished presence in the political world and the stigma of being Roman Catholic, Kennedy had a lot of ground to conquer. In not just politics, but society, religion is and was a controversial issue. Kennedy, who was Catholic, struggled against critics who were anti Catholicism. The end goal was to have an American man on the moon before the end of the decade. Neil Armstrong was that man in 1969. Not only was the Soviet Union viewed as a threat with their space program being more advance, but they also had nuclear missile sites being built. An American spy plane secretly photographed evidence that both Cuba and the Soviet Union were building nuclear missile sites. President Kennedy remained collected and directed that a naval blockade was placed around Cuba which would prevent the Soviets from obtaining more military supplies. On the brink of what could have been a nuclear war, there was an agreement made, the Soviets agreed to dismantle their weapons sites in exchange for a pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba. • 50. How Writing Has Changed Throughout The Past Century The nature of writing has changed in the past century. While writing still remains a form of visual communication, much of this change has been a result of technological advancements such as, from pen to paper or from a typewriter to a networked computer. The changes and expansion in the ways we are able to write today have brought about changes in writingpedagogyas well. The teaching of writing has been part of formal schooling in the United Statesfor over 200 years (Kean 7). One major pedagogic change in United States education has to do with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards. These standards have led to a change in the instruction of writing in schools. This paper, will focus on instructional changes of writing over time and current expectations for writing abilities as whole. The earliest finding of when a focus was placed on writing instruction can be traced to an interdisciplinary conference on writing research in 1978 at Carnegie Mellon University (MacArthur, Graham, and Fitzgerald 187). In 1980, the research presented at the conference was published in the book Cognitive Processes in Writing which lead to an increased interest in the cognitive nature of writing. One model of writing instruction presented in this book asks adults to think out loud when composing (MacArthur, Graham, and Fitzgerald 187). Through analyzing the verbalization of participants using this model, researchers began to study cognitive processes. This
