Small Boxes and Big Fun: Starting a Board Game CollectionJohn Pappas
Small Boxes and Big Fun: Starting a Board Gaming Collection, presented by John Pappas
Board gaming is entering a golden age with wonderfully crafted games coming out daily by board game publishers large and small, as well as from individual designers. This leads to a large amount of diversity and choice in the board games space when trying to develop a circulating board game collection or choosing which games to include in a gaming group. This talk will discuss the basics of organizing a modern board game group (any ages) including tips on moderating, teaching, and promoting the group while providing a welcoming and safe space for new and emerging gamers. Additionally, the mechanics (the inner workings of the games), genres, and the themes of games will be reviewed and discussed. The talk will end in a presentation of a starter kit of inexpensive and fun board games which will get your library's collection started for less than $150. The cost of getting into the board gaming hobby does not have to be prohibitive if the right games are purchased and the proper partnerships fostered.
Are you a senior-level UX professional who's been doing the same thing for so many years that you feel you're in a rut? Do you struggle with processes that feel rote instead of practical? How important is innovation to you and your company? And most importantly, when was the last time you had any fun?
Now…think about animals for a second. What characteristic do humans and animals share?
The answer may surprise you: humans and animals both possess the ability to play games. But unlike most wild animals who shed their play stage early, we have the ability to continue learning through game play throughout our adult lives. Sadly, that doesn't mean we do it.
Douglas van Duyne, author of the UX best-seller The Design of Sites: Patterns for Creating Winning Websites and author of a seminar series called GameFraming, will show you how to reconnect with the sense of play you were born with, and how you can apply it to your practice as a UX professional. He'll cover Game Principles, Design Strategies, and the Hero's Journey which you'll discover applies as much to interaction design and project management as it does to World of Warcraft. Douglas will also share two case studies where Gameframing was used to break the typical rules of project management and design, which led to amazing results.

Welcome to the Program Your Destiny course. In this course, we will be learning the technology of personal transformation, neuroassociative conditioning (NAC) as pioneered by Tony Robbins. NAC is used to deprogram negative neuroassociations that are causing approach avoidance and instead reprogram yourself with positive neuroassociations that lead to being approach automatic. In doing so, you change your destiny, moving towards unlocking the hypersocial self within, the true self free from fear and operating from a place of personal power and love.
https://bit.ly/BabeSideDoll4u Babeside is a company that specializes in creating handcrafted reborn dolls. These dolls are designed to be incredibly lifelike, with realistic skin tones and hair, and they have become increasingly popular among collectors and those who use them for therapeutic purposes. At Babeside, we believe that our reborn dolls can provide comfort and healing to anyone who needs it.
The Healing Power of Babeside's Handcrafted Creations
Our reborn dolls are more than just beautiful pieces of art - they can also help alleviate stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. Studies have shown that holding or cuddling a soft object like a stuffed animal or a reborn doll can release oxytocin, which is often referred to as the "love hormone." This hormone helps us feel calm and relaxed, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety.
In addition to their physical benefits, reborn dolls can also offer emotional support. For many people, having something to care for and nurture can bring a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Reborn dolls can also serve as a reminder of happy memories or loved ones who have passed away.
1. Why gaming is good for everyone?
• Most people have always assumed they were the cause of many mental and physical problems. Even if there was
a lack of scientific evidence to prove it.
• In this presentation we will discuss why gaming is beneficial for you, especially during lockdown where you are
stuck in your home. Some say it is in our human nature to find something to blame when there’s an issue, and
video games have always been an easy target. Or, do video games really hinder our ability to learn, make us
more violent, or affect our physical health?
• While there still isn’t enough evidence to offer a solid answer, the good news is that most researchers are
discovering that games can be good for us.
2. 1) You get better at decision making
• 90% of video games today need you to be excellent in decision making. Video Games from Mario to FPS games
like Call of Duty require the player to plan ahead before moving anywhere. Almost every game have maps, some
without maps or small maps but variety of operators. A player needs to acquainted with each and every operator
and brain mapping. So this is a decision which could be very vital for you and your team.
• E.g. In order to perform a mission in a game, you need to draft out a strategy and discus it with your teammates
and then proceed. Sounds easy right? But what if I tell you, it has to be done within 10 seconds. That’s right, that’s
the average waiting time in millions of games before actually joining the game.
• During this time, sitting at home will not help you be a better decision maker, but with video games by your side,
you may not be able to use these same decisions in the real world but you will be equipped by so many skills to
perform decision making effectively and efficiently.
3. 2) Enhancing your ability to learn
• Almost every game today whether it be a FPS or a strategic game like Sim City need the player to learn multiple
things at once. Players need to learn about different scenarios, environment, features, tools, which in turn increase
your ability to learn and also learn almost anything fast. Sim City helps you understand about taxes paid by the
citizens and how to implement those taxes effectively and efficiently to rise your city till zenith.
• Driving games like Forza motorsport have reportedly helped increase players driving skills. These endless driving
games have helped players to become more inquisitive and alert.
• Today, when sitting at home due to lockdown, one can help their learning ability grow which may not be happening
the other way.
4. 3) Improving hand-eye coordination
• Curious to see who could perform better at these virtual surgeries, Scientists at the University of Texas Medical
Branch brought together a group of high school kids, college students, and medical residents.
• After testing the three groups to see who could outperform the others, the scientists were surprised to discover
that the high school students did the best.
• Why? Simply put, the high school kids played video games at least two hours a day while the medical residents
rarely had time to play.
• While playing you don’t have time to look down to your keyboard, which button to push when simultaneously you are
driving a car on screen. Video games enhances the players hand-eye coordination, that person will be able to do
tasks much faster. This is not absurd, but you may be able to grab the exact thing you had in mind without even
looking at it.
