1. How To Write An Opening Paragraph For
An Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of composing an opening paragraph may initially seem like a
straightforward task, but delving into the process reveals its inherent challenges. To elucidate the
art of introducing an essay effectively requires a nuanced understanding of various elements –
from capturing the reader's attention to succinctly presenting the thesis. The difficulty lies in
striking a balance between creativity and clarity, ensuring that the opening paragraph sets the
tone for the entire essay. As one navigates through the complexities of selecting compelling
hooks, constructing a concise thesis statement, and establishing the essay's purpose, the challenge
becomes apparent. Furthermore, the writer must be cognizant of the diverse nature of audiences
and tailor the opening to resonate with different readers. Achieving this delicate equilibrium
demands a keen sense of rhetorical strategies and an adept command of language.
In essence, composing an essay on the intricacies of constructing an opening paragraph becomes
a task that extends beyond mere technicalities. It demands a deep understanding of the
psychology of readers, an appreciation for the diversity of writing styles, and an ability to
synthesize information effectively. The difficulty lies not only in mastering the technical aspects
but also in infusing the opening with a unique voice that captivates the audience. Aspiring
essayists must grapple with the challenge of engaging readers from the outset while conveying
the essence of their argument with clarity and coherence.
In conclusion, the journey of crafting an essay on the art of writing an opening paragraph is
undoubtedly arduous. It requires a fusion of creativity, technical proficiency, and an acute
awareness of the reader's perspective. Despite the challenges, it is a rewarding endeavor that

2. Specific Phobia Essay
Transient fears for certain objects or situations are common. However when fear is
extreme and disproportionate to the threat posed by specific stimuli that is avoided
or endured under duress, it is characterised as a specific phobia (APA, 2013). The
common types of specific phobia are animal, e.g., dogs, spiders; natural environment,
e.g., water, heights; blood, injection or injury (BII), e.g., dental phobia, medical
procedures; situational, e.g., elevators, flying; and other miscellaneous phobiassuch as
clowns, fearof choking. While debilitating, specific phobias are the most treatable of
psychiatric disorders, however many people do not seek treatment because of their
fear of being confronted with the feared stimuli (Wolitzky Taylor, Horowitz, Powers
Telch, 2008).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a high comorbidity within individuals with 75% having multiple specific
phobias (DSM 5, 2013). However, the diagnosis of specific phobias is difficult as
they are frequently comorbid with other anxiety disorders sharing similar features.

3. Kingship In The Book Of Ruth
It was believed among the rabbis that the book of Ruth was written by Samuel,
however, many argue that it is impossible to know who was the author. The date of
the book is believed to have been after the time of David but before the time of
Solomon, given the genealogy in the book, however, David s kingship is not
mentioned. The book of Ruth, according to Baxendale, was written to typify the
calling of the Gentiles in Ruth the Moabitess; to foretell that the Gentiles should be
called in Christ (Baxendale).
The book of Ruth opens with the scene of Elimelech, his wife Naomi and their two
sons during the time of the judges when a famine was in the land of Judah. Because
of this famine, Elimelech moved his family to Moab, where Elimelech died ... Show

For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be
my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be
buried. May the Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from
you (ESV, Ruth 1:16 17). Ruth 1:16 17 speaks of Ruth s great devotion to Naomi,
even when all seemed lost. She followed Naomi, having seen Naomi s family s
faith in Yahweh lived out, and she trusted that they would make it if they were
together. The book of Ruth does not tell us out right of Ruth s faith in God,
however, her actions in following Naomi to the point of following the one true God,
instead of returning to her people and gods, says much about her character
(McQuade). Also, the words she used speak loudly, especially when the significance
of the Hebrew terms she used is understood. According to The Broadman Bible
Commentary, the Hebrew word that Ruth used for God, Yahweh, was her way of
saying that He was God, not just Elohim, which stands for god with a little g . Ruth
was not simply going to live with Naomi because she had no alternative. In these
two verses, Ruth is pledging her life and loyalty not only to Naomi, but also to the
one true God (Allen). She declared that Naomi s God would be her God. Many
people miss the fact that Ruth had been married to an Israelite man, so her devotion
to God and Naomi was a testimony to her deceased
4. Thrones Archetypes
Upon analyzing most works of fiction, one is bound to realize that writers use certain
storytelling conventions to synthesize a compelling plot. These devices can include,
tropes, underlying themes, and archetypes, but chief among these conventions is the
utilization of a narrative structure called the monomyth (also called the heros
journey). In a narrative that follows the monomyth structure, the protagonist leaves
his/her ordinary world, only to enter a strange and unfamiliar world where he/she
overcomes obstacles to defeat an adversary and returns with boons for his/her fellow
human beings (Campbell 30). It should be no surprise that much of the popular media
consumed by audiences in the modern era employ these conventions. However, the...

According to Campbell, The last act in the biography of the hero is that of the
death or departure. Here the whole sense of the life is epitomized. Needless to say,
the hero would be no hero if death held for him any terror; the first condition is
reconciliation with the grave (Page 356). The Swiss psychologist Jolande Jacobi
adds an extra piece of nuance by pointing out that death is not necessarily the final
stage, but rather a necessary step for a greater transformation to occur. Jacobi
points this out by explaining, Every rebirth is preceded by a death. This death can
occur on all levels and in all domains of life...the former mode of existence, to an
utterly changed new manifestation (Page 176). Or as she more concisely states,
there can be no resurrection without death, no becoming without dying (Page 160).
Of the characters who have gone through this part of the monomyth in Game of
Thrones, Ned Stark s progression through this stage is by far the most impactful and
subversive. The journey Ned Stark (a very powerful and respected lord in The
North) undergoes prior to the death and resurrection stage involved him trying to
prevent Prince Joffrey (who is vicious, cruel, and ill suited for the throne) from
becoming King by proving Joffrey was not a legitimate heir. Unfortunately, Stark is
unsuccessful at preventing this and as punishment for his

CRITICAL ANALYSIS:
Critical analysis of this project requires thorough understanding of its marketing mix
strategy. To give personal views about anything first of all one should make himself
familiar with the subject. That s what I did. Before starting the report , i went

According to me the main reason is when they came into existence they didn t have
any competitors all they need to do is manufacturing and selling of the car. As I have
stated earlier before 80s Indian automobile market was seller s market which means
manufacturing companies have the command on the market not the customers.
Having customer s command on the market is essential otherwise the development
stops. The same thing happened, ambassador remains the same car as it was when it
was first introduced. Hindustan Motors didn t promote the car because as a single
Indian car it was already famous. Distribution was not that much difficult because car
owners were few. The price of the ambassador was relatively high because those who
needed the car didn t have another option. Also the government rules on importing the
components were harsh and company was paying high prices for them. It seems
obvious what the company did during those years. But when the scenario changed
during 90s the market became open to all the government rules became soft and lots
of other car manufacturers jumped into the Indian automobile market. This was the
time when the ambassador should have changed its strategies. However they didn t
make considerable changes on the other side new companies like Maruti Suzuki got
the nerve of an Indian customer and introduced cheapest car in the market. Due to
this drastic change once giant Hindustan Motors has become a company in loss with
one of its most successful car an ambassador in

States...
I have decided to discuss United Kingdom and United States six key difference in
compensation and benefits. The 6 key compensation and benefits between United
Kingdom and United that I will address are paid maternity leave, paid paternity
leave,general parental leave,paid holiday allowances,paid sick leaveand
unemployment benefits. The first key difference that I will discuss is maternityleave.
In all the countries in Europe, the maternity leave minimum amount is 14 weeks
but the time and pay that is offered varies. The United Kingdom s maternity leave
is at 52 weeks (1 year) which is the longest maternity leave in Europe. The first 26
weeks is known as Ordinary Maternity Leave , the last 26 weeks as Additional
Maternity Leave .For the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
United Kingdom on the other hand offers 8 paid holiday/vacation days. For sick and
pay leave United States does not have statutory mandate for paid sick leave. Just
like the paid holidays, the number of days that an employee is offered is apart of
the compensation package which is negotiated between the employee and
employer. Out of Europe, United Kingdom is one of the least generous when it
comes paid sick leave as they offer up to 28 weeks and it is paid at a flat rate of
around ВЈ88 a week. Lastly, the key difference I will discuss is unemployment
benefits. In the U.S they offer between 40% and 50% of earnings for up to 26
weeks, which also depends on the individual state. It is said that out of Europe,
United Kingdom is the least generous when it comes to benefits. They have to
check to see if they are eligible and if they are they they will receive a certain
amount which is based off their age, income and savings. Payments are usually made

7. Goals For College Freshman Essay
James Mason Wood said, Education today, more than ever before, must see clearly
the dual objectives: education for living and education for making a living. When
people go to school because they have to, then it is only education for living.
When people try hard and get a good education, then they get good jobs to make a
living. West Texas A M University, home of the Buffaloes, will provide me with
new skills to learn about the medical field and can assist me to become an
anesthesiologist. Before being able to apply for WTAMU, there is some
requirements college freshmen need to have and they also have to go through
admissions. Before being able to register, incoming students need to have certain
amounts of credits from their high school. They need to have four English credits,
four for math, four for science, three and a half for social science, half a credit for
economics, one for physical education, one for speech, and six credits of electives
(WTAMU). College freshmen also need to have their meningitis shot up to date
before they are allowed into a classroom. They also need to submit their high school
transcripts. To be able to get accepted to WTAMU, students need to obtain 2.0 GPA.
They also need to have certain ACT and SATscores. If the student is in the top 25%
of the class, they have no minimum ACT or SAT score. If they are in the 26% to
50% they need to have an ACT score of 18 or an 860 to 940 on the SAT. If the

8. The Special Inspector General For Afghanistan
Reconstruction
The iconic American sitcom Seinfeld has this episode where George Costanza, the
show s lovable loser, mopes to friend Jerry Seinfeld: My life is the opposite of
everything I want it to be. Every instinct I have..it s all been wrong. Jerry deadpans
back, If every instinct you have is wrong, then the opposite would have to be right.
Washington will eventually have its own George Costanza moment on Afghanistan,
and the futility of an open ended war. The only question is how many more dead
soldiers and civilians will it take to have this epiphany.
The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction s (SIGAR) quarterly
report for January is a bleak read. At close to 30%, not only do the Talibanhold more
Afghan territory than any time after the 2001 invasion, but The insurgency is
spreading (Afghan forces) thin, threatening rural districts in one area while carrying
out ambitious attacks in more populated centers. The Taliban trifecta of high stakes
attacks in late 2015 adds weight to SIGAR s assessment. Moreover, even before
militants briefly overran Kunduz, Kandahar airport and besieged Sangin district, UN
figures revealed a 19% increase in security incidents between August and October.
US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, however, insists Washington will stick with
Afghanistan, but not just in 2016, that s 2017 and beyond, Sectors of the US media
also report that military commanders are pressing President Barack Obama to shelve

If the family structure is a mobile, the family meal is the string that holds each
family in their place. The Grey s are an entrepreneurial middle class family
consisting of dad, mom, and five children. They have four children G, A, P, M, and
S. The oldest (G) is ten, and the youngest (S) is one. Dad is a graphics engineer
who works from home. Mom is a nursing student. Their schedules give them the
flexibility to be involved in the children s lives most of the day, which can be busy,
as the three oldest are in school. Despite the appearance of chaos and a lack of
routine, the Greys display immense flexibility and connectedness. At each step of the
process during the meal, from food preparation to cleaning up, each member took a
role. All six members, including the baby, were involved in age appropriate tasks,
magnifying the connectedness of the meal.

The family chose their meal, chicken curry and homemade tortillas, ahead of time.
As mom prepared the curry on the stove, the children were at the breakfast bar

dough with hands. Each child was able to see the tortillas being cooked by dad,
making the meal interactive and personal. The oldest son, G, was a bridge between
his father on the grill and the younger siblings making the tortillas on the bar.

11. Developing And Marketing Computer Hardware Systems
Introduction
Reading through the requirement of this paper there were several options to choose
from. There are several companies that offer integration to their customers such as
SAP which is the leader in ERP solutions, Oracle which came to the industry after
acquiring PeopleSoft back in 2005, Microsoft, and IBM. Reading the materials
throughout this semester was interesting as it gave me an inside view of system
integration and it made me think of the architecture of how companies integrate their
system or the high level thought of how things are done when big companies acquire
other companies. Researching all these four big companies, I found that Oracle had a
lot of products that integrate systems and it seems they have a solution for a lot of
major industry with pre defined modules that help jump start the integration process.
Everyone knows oracle as it s a global computer technology company. The company
primary specializes in developing and marketing computer hardware systems. The
company also builds and develops databases and database products. , middle tier
software, resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management and supply
chain management software.
In this paper I am specifically looking at the Oracle E Business Suite, which is the
most complete suite of integrated, global business applications that enables the
company to make better decisions, reduce cost, and increase performance. The Oracle

12. Designing A Different Operating System
You can t know where you re going unless you know where you been, this saying
rings true when thinking of Lunix. In order to know the start of Lunix one would
have to travel back in time quite a bit. In this paper, I will research the start of
Linux, the growth, and the future. When thinking of computers imagine they are
as big as the tallest building or stadium. While the size of those computers posed
problems, there was the one thing that made them worse: every computer had a
different operating system. Software was customized to serve a certain purpose,
and software didn t run from one system to another. This was painful for both the
system administrators and users alike. Computers were so expensive back then,
and so many sacrifices had to made even after the original big purchase just to get
the users to understand how the parts worked together. Technology at that time was
not so advanced, so this was the way of life for another decade or so. In 1969, the
beginning of finding a solution to the software problem began. The first developer
Ken Thompson is an American pioneer in computer science. He started out working
at Bell Labs for most of his career. Dennis Richie is the second developer who was a
computer scientist that created the C programming language and, with Ken
Thompson and created the Unix project. Thompson and Richie came together to
address the compatibility issues and develop a new operating system. The key points
that they wanted to instill was to
13. Influence Of Mcdonald And Pop Culture
Food is very much a part of pop culture, and the beliefs, practices, and trends in a
culture affect its eating practices. Pop culture includes the ideas and objects
generated by a society, including foods, and other systems, as well as the impact of
these ideas and objects on society. For example, Mcdonald s is another of the
thousands of fast food chains that populate our cities though they often use the term
popular cultureonly to refer to media forms. Their popularity has also increased
internationally. Although all humans need food to survive, people s food habits and
how they obtain, prepare, and consume food, are the result of learned behaviors.
Mcdonald s, like other food chains, has made an effort to localize its products so that
they will be more successful in each different cultural context. These collective
behaviors, as well as the values and attitudes they reflect, come to represent a group s
pop culture.
An online source says, popular culture is first well like by many people. It goes on
to say, second its must have inferior kinds of work. Finally it says, third it must
work deliberately setting out to win favour by the people, and culture actually made
by the people for themselves. This source continues to say how well Mcdonald s fit
into these categories of what we call popular culture.
Mcdonald s knew that it would have been in pop culture when the legendary
founder of the company, Ray Kroc , said Mcdonald s was not into the hamburger
business, but it in the people s business Kroc was saying that he believes in what the
people want and mainly that s what pop culture is about. They use big graphics and
flashy advertisements to give the people what they want. Mcdonald s has become
apart of culture for everybody.
Today s society focuses more on the idea of mass media and of things that are
portrayed with this. Because of advancements in technology, a person could simply
turn on a television set, a computer, or just their phone to find out things that are
going on in the world. In dealing with pop culture, one would see that the ideas and
objects generated by a society are being promoted by the media. Mcdonald s and other
restaurants use this to promote their items.

this test, patients were found to have a 20 percent improvement with the

18. Fungus Essay
Fungus
The Latin word for mushroom is fungus (plural, fungi). The word fungus has come to
stand for a whole group of simple plants that contain no chlorophyll and lack such
complex plant structures as roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. Included among the
fungi, along with mushrooms, are molds, mildews, rusts, smuts, truffles, and yeasts.
Toadstool is another name for mushroom. Some people use the name toadstool only
when referring to poisonous mushrooms, but botanists make no such distinction. A
general scientific term for fungi is mycota, from the Greek word for mushroom,
mykes, and the study of these organisms is called mycology.

Only a small portion of those that live on land is normally visible. Most of the
fungus, a complex network of hyphae, grows underground, near the surface. The
visible parts of fungi vary greatly in size. Some are so tiny that they cannot be seen
without the aid of magnification. Others are quite large. Some mushrooms reach
diameters of 8 to 10 inches (20 to 25 centimeters) and heights of 10 to 12 inches (25
to 30 centimeters). Bracket fungi that are 15 inches (38 centimeters) in diameter are
fairly common; and mushrooms called puffballs have been known to grow to 60
inches (152 centimeters) in diameter.
Although fungi are distributed worldwide, the distribution of a specific species is
limited by temperature and moisture conditions of an area coupled with the
available food supply. The best temperature for most fungi to thrive is from 68В° to
86В°F (20В° to 30В°C). Some types of fungi, however, do perfectly well at tem
peratures as high as 120В°F (48В°C), while a fairly large number of them do well at
freezing temperatures, 32В°F (0В°C) or below.
The reproduction of fungi can be either sexual or asexual. Sexual reproduction, as
with other organisms, involves the fusion of two nuclei when two sex cells unite.

19. Slavery s Constitution Ratification
The book report is on Slavery s Constitution From Revolution to Ratification 1 by
David Waldstreicher. This book is primarily a history book that speaks about the
creation, ratification, and the implementation of the United States Constitution with
regards to slavery. The author is trying to convey to the reader that the Constitution,
while never actually mentioning slavery, had slavery written all over it. The author
chose this topic to talk about because it s very clear by reading Constitution once
that there isn t much discussion about slavery. What Waldstreicher would argue is
that this conception is wrong, and the only way to understand that it is incorrect is
to go back into the early stages of colonial history and work your way up to... Show

The framers themselves agreed that silence was necessary in order to keep peace,
but it wasn t just to keep peace. The North and the South both needed to make
agreements, as one of the Son s of Liberties Hugh Hughes reveals an agreement, If
you will permit us to import Africans as Slaves, we will consent that you may
export Americans, as soldier s (129 130). Essentially saying if you allow us to keep
importing slaves, you will have more soldiers in the army, whether that be white men
from the South or slaves from the South. There were other obvious advantages like
the North giving business to Southern Slaveholders for slave necessities like clothing
and food. What the author is trying to prove though, is slavery wasn t being fought
against, it was like a petty thing that someone brought up just to remember Oh wait,
we need their business. Because of these agreements between the North and the
South, the Constitution was written with a mind on anti slavery but it operated as if
it was a pro slavery
20. Womanistic Elements In The Color Purple By Alice Walker
The second chapter will bring out Womanistic elements from Alice Walker s well
acclaimed novel The Color Purple which is a touching novel and tells the story of
Celie, a black woman who always lived a submissive life and was tangled into a
series of mental and physical humiliations and never thought of hatching out to a
new world where she could breathe in the air of liberation and equality. Alice
Walker has presented issues of racism and sexism in all her works. History has
witnessed the self empowerment of black women by fighting against all those who
have tried to silence their voices.
Alice Walker s The Color Purpleis an epistolary novel which was published in 1982
and won Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for Fiction. The well narrated
story of a black woman, Celie was later adapted into an eponymous film which was
directed by Steven Spielberg. Walker s mother always encouraged her to achieve
something in her life. The male members of her family, her father and four brothers
never presented themselves as positive role models. The Color Purple portrays the
picture of the brutality of her father through the character of Mr. Albert. The Color

Through the letters, readers can see into the mind of the character. The letters were
mainly written by Celie to god and Nettie and some from Nettie to Celie. Celie,
due to her exhausted life, sees writing letters as an escape. She never wrote any
letter with an expectation to be read or written back. The letters she wrote were
written like journal entries and were written in first person narrative which shows
her intimacy with God, her only saviour as she had nobody to turn to but God. So,
the letters become an instrument with which she could open her heart to God,
otherwise she was not allowed to open up her feelings with anyone. Wendy Wall says

Persepolis Twentieth century holds many enormous changes within all sections of
life, graphic novels as a branch of literature was a part of those changes. It employs
visual and verbal terminology to shape the story. One of the popular novels among
graphic novels is Persepolis which is about the story of the writer s childhood
Marjane Satrapi. The narrative graphically and textually tells about the events
including removing Reza Shah from power and replacing him by his son, ending
western power over Iran, and fighting between Iran and Iraq which happened
during 1979 1988. Throughout these years Iranian people have gone through plenty
of fluctuations and changes which are analyzed in numerous ways by foreign
people as in one of her interview Marjane states that From the time I came to France
in 1994, I was always telling stories about life in Iran to my friends. We d see pieces
about Iran on television, but they didn t represent my experience at all. (Pantheon)

Throughout her novel, Marjane has used several different kinds of speech clouds,
such as speech, though, and scream cloud. In most of the parts of the book she
uses speech cloud because the people are talking normally. For example, on page
70 when god asks Marji what is wrong with her, Marjane uses speech cloud, for he
was talking normally. On the other hand, she puts her answer into a scream cloud
which implies that she is angrily screaming and telling god to get out. In addition,
she uses thought cloud, for example, on page 60, when her uncle tells her that he
was in prison for nine years, she immediately thinks about Laly s father. In this point,
the writer does need to write down that she is thinking instead the graph implies that

What a glorious year it was in 2002. There were many memorable moments that
season. There was Ronde Barber s game sealing INT against the Eagles to send us

unforgettable Super Bowl for all Bucs fans. Who was the architect to that glorious

and no disrespect to Dungy, but did he get them to the Big Dance? Gruden was the

Outside of that tremendous year, Gruden s tenure was struck with mediocrity among
high expectations with a Super Bowl winning coach. Consider this, for the next 6

Mikhail Gorbachev was the seventh and final President, the last Head of State, and

alternative strategies that Delta Air Line can opt from in order to increase its

The SO category suggests three alternatives. The first alternative is to include airlines
in India and China under the Sky Team alliance. By doing this, Delta can penetrate
into untapped emerging markets and increase its presence. The reason we suggest
India and China is because these countries were amongst the lowest to be affected by
recession and Delta doesn t have its prevalence in these regions (http:/

Such a nationalism is possible, and we must pursue it. Sun Yat sen, Three Principles

Because of this, Sun stated that a modern and ideal government system must be
established. Sun had his new government system divided into two powers: the
power of politics and the power of governance. The powers of politics are the rights
of the people to express their political wishes. An example of this today is Britain s
Parliament s House of Commons. Sun declares that the people have four major
rights or civil rights, which are: election, recall, initiative, and referendum (ABC
CLIO Sun Yat sen ). Election means the right to vote, recall is the right to remove
an elected official from power, initiative is the right to petition and referendum is
the right to refer measures passed by the legislative branch to the approval or
rejection of the electorate. The second power was the power of governance or the
power of the officials. Sun proposed the use of a five branch government system
within the power of governance, including the three branch system of the U.S.
(Legislative, Judicial and Executive), the use of checks and balances, as well as
two other branches: Control Branch (similar to the Censorate Branch) and the
Examination Branch (similar to the branch responsible for the Civil Service
Exams). The Second Principle of the People was meant to represent a Western style
of government (ABC CLIO Sun Yat sen ). The last principle of Sun s Three

Abstract In this study, we used the event study methodology to examine if cash
dividend announcements affect the stock prices of companies listed on the Palestine

Appropriate statistical tests were used to examine if the cumulative abnormal return
is statistically significant around the announcement day, namely, 10 days before and
10 days after the event day. Results reveal that statistically significant differences
exist between cumulative abnormal returns and zero. Thus, investors could realize
abnormal returns during the event window for the study period. The findings also

The distribution of profits are predicated on a few methods, the majority of which
are in the form of cash or bonus shares or shares owned by companies in other
companies being distributed in the form of goods produced by the company Nour
(2003). However, it should also be pointed out that psychological factors are crucial
vis Г vis the method of distribution; shareholders are more inclined towards cash
distribution, as they see it as an acceptable form of compensation from the risk they
are obliged to bear from being the owner of stocks. The link between dividends and
firm s value and share price has been the subject of study for a few decades.
However, the influence of dividends on the value firms value and price remains
unresolved. Some studies pointed out that stock prices remain unaffected by the
announcement of dividends (Sharma, 2011; Pan et al., 2014), while others reported
otherwise, whether positively (Liu and Chi, 2014; Perepeczo, 2014) or negatively
(Abbas, 2015; Mamun, 2013). Information signaling theory, the free cash flow
hypothesis, and the dividend clientele effect hypothesis are the three major theories
that explains the influence of dividend announcements upon share prices
(KadД±oДџlu et al., 2015; Nour, 2003). Event study is regarded as an important
research tool in the context of economics and finance. It is entrenched in the capital
markets for the analysis of events on stock prices. The study of an

Nepotism Employee is the most important asset in an organization. One of the goals
of the Human Resources Management in the company is to ensure that all employees
are being treated with dignity and equally. However, there are barriers that are
avoiding the situation from happening. One of them is nepotism. Nepotism that
derived from Latin word Nepot can be defined as unprofessional act that shows
favoritism to the relatives (Wikipedia). Nepotism usually occurs in business
managementand political affairs, but we will only discuss nepotism in business
company management. Nepotism can contribute to lots of disadvantages to an
organization such as unfairness to other employees, lower employees morale and
pressure to the relatives themselves.
First and foremost, the disadvantage of nepotism is unfairness to other employees
(Jones). The feeling arises because the employer shows favoritism only to the
relative s workers. There is possibility that non family employees will feel
disappointed and biased when they are being treated like that. Management who
practice nepotism will always make their relatives prior than other employees. Some
example of unfairness would bias while positioning job, assigning task or distribution
of benefits and rewards to employees unfairly. There is a significant relationship
between unfairness with employees motivation that influences the downward or
upswing of motivation level by the employees.
The second disadvantage of nepotism is lower

when we talk about the microbiome, we really the microorganisms found in humans.
Although there are microoganisms in all our of tissues, we typically think of them in
terms of gut flora. Part of the reason for this is that the gut flora vastly outnumber
the microbes elsewhere in the body and are also much more diverse than average.
Another reason is that many of the flora found in the gut are known to be involved
in how we digest our food.
Compared to our understanding of most microbiota living on and in humans, our

This is complicated by the need to try to exclude host DNA from the studies.
The microbes that make up the microbiome include bacteria, viruses, fungi and
archaea. Archaea were previously classified as bacteria, but new research has found
them to a distinct class of organisms, different from the other two main classes of
organisms. They were originally believed to live in only extreme environments, such
as volcanic hot springs, but they have proven to be much more flexible and abundant
than it was initially assumed. They are known to have a generally mutualistic
relationship to humans and to aid in digestion.
Some of our gut flora play a critical role in helping us digest certain things. For

such as sterols. These play an important role in our immune function. Problems with

Introduction
In today s competitive world, people are expected to be highly effective and
efficient. They need specific skills and knowledge for their education or work
purposes. This has enforced various skill enhancement programs proposed by
fraternity all over the world.
Experiential learning and reflective practice is a compelling approach for self
improvement by regular self audit. The following report is an academic character
with various definitions, analysis and critique of reflective learning structure. It shall
then emphasize on my career, experiences, and analysis which will help in
developing my overall personality. It shall focus on analysis of skills in effective

The evaluation from four diagnostic tools shall help in understanding my strengths
and weaknesses and development areas. Action plan concludes the whole trial in
which my analysis and approach is highlighted in relation to need for self
improvement.
Experiential Learning and Reflective Practice
Do we always learn from experiences?
The answer is NO. Nothing will become real unless experienced said John Keats (as
cited in Beard and Wilson, 2013, p. 28). We cannot learn from experiences until
reflecting over it. To understand reflecting over experiences, it is important to
understand experiential learning first.
Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of
experience said David A. Kolb (1984, p.38).

Integrating these two core concepts is instrumental to the success of family presence.
Family presence is a journey that many emergency departments are starting to
embark on. With many organizations aligning their visions as patient and family
centered this journey has to start with strong leadership. Many healthcare
professionals have doubts as to whether or not this is truly beneficial for the patient s
families, and also what legal ramifications does this process have in the long run. A
multidisciplinary team needs to be established early on consisting of; senior
management, legal counsel, clergy, department leadership, physicians, nurses and
other key staff. This key group can work to develop a hospital policy that clearly
defines and develops the roles needed to facilitate a positive experience. Nurses
will provide the most buy in for this process. It is important to develop a robust
educational plan to support nurses in their roles. Role playing is a great way to
ensure staff competency with this endeavor. Families need to feel that all who invite
them in the room is agreeable to the situation, and that the lines of communication are
clear. Role playing identifies staff that is not supportive of the process, and might
need more education to truly understand the closure it brings to families. All too
often families are off in a room

World War I introduced the American military to the modern industrial war. The
conflict with Mexico in 1914 gave the U.S an opportunity to try new technology
such as motorization and aircraft. However, this was strong a small conflict that
did not translate to that of the First World War. The American military was not
modern yet compared to other powers. The United States did not have great
influence over the strategy among the allied forces. They relied on the allies for
military equipment. France and Britain desperately needed more men to fight in the
war. They needed U.S soldiers. The European powers were not impressed by the
United States entry into the Great War. Simply put, the United States was not yet
ready for this type of war. They were inexperience, lacked training, and were not
modern enough. The industrial revolution reshaped how wars will be played out. The
United States entered World War Inear the end of it. The amount of lives lost from the
United States allies in Europe does not compare. America lost barely anything
compared to them. America struggled in the beginning, but showed great potential as
the Great War came to a close.

him and the characters both romantically and platonically the film lacks the
essence of Dustfinger s components. Director Ian Stofley compensates by including
a scene not originally in the novel to bring about Dustfinger s meek guilt. Stofley
places him next to fire once more although with light on him alone, surrounded by
Capricorn s men, adorned in blacks and greys and shrouded in darkness. He returns
a beloved book, a prop only mentioned in the novel but an important one in the film
as it reappears numerous times. This draws sympathy towards him and is one of
many guilt filled scenes that paint Dustfinger in good light. It changes his personality
completely, for he becomes a timid man, only wanting to be loved, while in the novel
he is heartbroken enough to place little value on love and
42. Exon Junction Complex
Social activities are the most fundamental behaviors for many animal species to
survive and require memory formation. Particularly, patients with autistic spectrum
disorders (ASD) exhibit several core symptoms, including impaired social activities
and repetitive behaviors, often combed with intellectual disability (ID). Memory
formation entails new protein synthesis from mRNAs stored at the synapses
responding to local stimuli. Neuronal transcripts interact with various mRNA binding
proteins (RBPs) and the RBPs ensure the targeted mRNAs to be translated only when
receiving proper environmental signals. Significant accomplishments have identified
over 1000 RNA binding proteins (RBPs) crucial for accurate post transcriptional
RNA processing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our group is in the ideal position to address these problems. We are the first group
to demonstrate that the EJC factor, RBM8a, regulates anxiety like behaviors and
neuronal plasticity1. We have developed the RBM8a conditional knockout (cKO)
mice and our preliminary data demonstrated that region specific knockout of
RBM8a impairs social interaction and affect fear memory. Additionally, RNAseq
uncovered that RBM8a modulates a large set of genes overlapping with autism risk
genes, which are involved in neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity. However,
current knowledge gaps include how RBM8a regulates memory and synapse
development, which physiological neuronal substrates are directly regulated by
RBM8a in vivo during learning behaviors, and what happens to these transcripts
when the RBM8a level is altered. Our hypothesis is that RBM8a regulates activity
dependent neuronal plasticity and controls specific pools of transcripts in neurons
that are activated by social interaction and learning activities. Building on a novel
discovery of an essential role of RBM8a in social recognition, our goal in this
proposal is to identify targets that are most relevant for RBM8a dependent neuronal
defects and determine the effect on RNA substrates of RBM8a in the brain. To achieve
this goal, the following aims will be
43. Pathogenesis (S. Aureus) And Neisseria
A pathogen is a disease causing microorganisms, such as fungi, bacteria and viruses
to its host. I have picked two fatal pathogenic bacteria for my report, which are
Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Neisseria meningitides (NM).
The shape of the S. aureus is a Gram positive spherical bacterium that occurs in grape
like clusters, which are golden. The golden color is the result of a carotenoid pigment
that protects the bacteria against host immune system reactive oxygen species, and
adds to the bacteria s virulence. Staphylococcus aureus is a gram positive bacterium,
which means that the cell wall of these bacteria consists of a very thick
peptidoglycan layer. Whereas NM is a gram negative, coffee bean shaped aerobe
bacterium. The bacterium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Production of toxins such as cytolytic that disrupt the cytoplasmic membranes of
some cells, exfoliative toxins causing one s skin cells to separate, toxic shock
syndrome and enterotoxins which stimulate intestinal muscle contractions, nausea
and vomiting.
Staphylococci are facultative anaerobes that grow by aerobic respiration or by
fermentation that yields principally lactic acid. The bacteria are catalase positive
and oxidase negative. S. Aureus can grow at a temperature range of 15 to 45
degrees and at NaCl concentrations as high as 15 percent. Nearly all strains of S.
aureus produce the enzyme coagulase: nearly all strains of S. epidermis lack this
enzyme.
If the individual who has s. aureus doesn t get the treatment this will develop more
rashes, redness, swellings and pain. Depending how bad the pathogen gets it can
lead to fever and contagious rashes due to this the people around them will get
infected also this can pass on to their babies which will cause them blisters and scaled
kin syndrome.
Nm begins when an individual already has the bacteria and transmits it to other
people through coughing or exchanging of saliva. When the bacteria is passed on to
the other individual it will settle at the back of the throat and nose, which will
eventually take control over the Posterior
44. Issues Associated with Workplace Diversity
Workplace Diversity refers to the human characteristics that are present in the
workplace making people different from one another. Various human characteristics
would include race, gender, age, certain physical attributes, experience, and personal
habits.
Workplace Diversity does not only refer to those groups that have been discriminated
against or that are different from the dominant or privileged groups, but to the
mixture of differences, similarities and tensions that can exist among the elements of
a pluralistic mixture.
Sexual Orientation Issues
Sexual orientation is a topic that organisations tend to discount or overlook.
E.g. Janet, a lesbian, started working as a purchasing assistant at a mid sized
plumbing supply store. She got along fine with her co workers, but she felt very
uncomfortable about the attitudes of many of the salespeople, who regularly made
jokes about Bob, a co worker who was gay. Janet thought that if she stood up for
him, she also would become a target of their jokes.
Recommendations
1.Include respect for all forms of diversity, even sexual orientation, into the
organisation s vision statement
2.Make a point to include sexual orientation issues in both your diversity awareness
programs and new employee orientation programme.
3.Ask managers to confront prejudiced remarks, jokes and behaviours.
4.Promoting and reinforcing the value of respecting people s beliefs

The Crack of the Bat Crack!! Leah just loved the feel of the vibrating bat, but to
start this story right you have to start from the beginning. Leah was a loveable,
spunky, happy girl who was nervous about trying out for the softball team. Leah
was so excited she loved to play sports, but before Leah could do that she had to focus
on her school work. You see she was having trouble in Math.
The next day she went to the smelly school and the day went on like any other. First

be really mad at me. I will just have to tell the truth. On the bus she was running a
bunch of ideas through her head of just what to say. For example, Mom and Dad I
need to talk to you, I took some math tests and I didn t do so well I will retake them

46. Theme Of The Metamorrphosis And It s A Wonderful Life
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka and the movie It s a Wonderful Life, directed
by Francis Copra, don t seem to have a lot in common at first glance. One is an old
novella taught in literature classes, and the other is a Christmas movie, but if you
look closer you can see they share common themes of unhappiness, transformation,
and dependence on family support. In both The Metamorphosisand It s a Wonderful
Life the main characters are unhappy in their lives, and go through a
transformation where they see what their lives are like without them. We will
examine the characters, the journeys they went through, and the different
outcomes of similar experiences. George s transformation in It s a Wonderful Life
starts with James Steward s character George s unhappiness. His job, which he
never wanted to get stuck with in the first place, is going bad, and he feels like
nothing he does makes any difference. He is about to get blamed for something he
didn t do and is backed into a corner. This is when George s transformation begins.
His unhappiness is compounded when his business is failing and he is blamed.
He is threatened with prison and ruin. He is unable to keep it together for
Christmas Eve. He sees his life as a life of sacrifice for his friends, family, and the
good of the town, and he sees it as all for nothing. All his efforts are leading to his
ruin. When he goes home after the money is missing, and after realizing all the
implications that are attached to that, the stress is compounded by his family. His
daughter is sick, the piano is playing the same thing over and over. He is
bombarded with questions and the problems pile up until he loses his temper. He
feels that he has the weight of the world on his shoulders and it is all crashing
down. Nothing he does is good enough, and nothing he has done would stop him
from going to prison if he couldn t come up with money. That is when he
remembers his life insurance. If he died the bank would be taken care of and his
family would be taken care of. If he died he wouldn t be stuck in the same old
town, with all the responsibility. He stands on the bridge ready to jump and wishes
he had never been born, He gets his wish and is shown what life would be like
47. The Problem Of Total Joint Force
The problem the total Joint Force (JF) 2025 will face will be consistent emerging
gray zone threats that include hybrid and near peer competitors trying to tip the
balance in the global security environment. In addition, as the Department of Defense
(DOD) learned from past wars while its resources reduce, the total JF 2025 must
adapt and become more agile in countering these emerging threats. The DOD has
provided the strategic and militaryguidance along with associated posturing
statements for the complementary capabilities of strategic adaptability and agility
that will enable the rebalancing of the total JF 2025, support future contingency
operations, and mitigate risk. Recently General Dunford stated, a ready JF is one that
can effectively meet the steady state requirements of the combatant commanders,
deter our adversaries, and respond decisively in the event of a contingency. The total
JF in 2025 will need to adapt and become more agile faster than these emerging
threats. It will also need to continue deterring global adversaries if it wants to sustain
enduring strategic and operational success while remaining decisive in supporting the
national defense strategy.
The DOD has released multiple documents since 2012 in support of developing its
defense strategy. First, the 2012 Defense Strategic Guidance and 2014 Quadrennial
Defense Review, established priorities that included, rebalance to the Asia Pacific
region, maintain security in Europe and the Middle East;
48. Summary Of Le Guin s The Child And The Shadow
In 1975, fantasy author Ursula K. Le Guin delivered a lecture discussing a Hans
Christian Andersen fairy tale she remembered from childhood. In this story, a man
burdened by cowardice could not gather the courage to visit the house of the pretty
woman that lived across the street. His shadow; his dark desires and guilty
pleasures, wanted the man to go across the street. Yet, the man did not want to for he
was afraid, this fear caused him to tell the shadow to leave. Thus, the shadow left.
The shadow goes on to explore the house of the pretty woman, and accordingly strays
unaccompanied and unattended through the world. Years later, the man and the
shadow reconnect. The man discovers that his actions have now caused his shadow
to become his master , and missing that part of himself, the man is executed. Le Guin
uses this dark tale in combination with Jungian psychology and Daoism philosophy
to illustrate that a person and their shadow must interact and coexist with each other
to survive. Without this balance, life will be impossible. Throughout The Child and
the Shadow , Le Guin makes eloquent points about the importance of a person s
shadow, Carl Jungs archetypes in relation to the shadow, and how fantasynovels help
children adapt to the traumatic events of reality. In Hans Christian Andersens fairy
tale, the man is executed. The man had rid himself of his shadow, attempting to hide
the flaws that were lurking inside. For, in the words of Le Guin, The shadow is the
49. Performance Appraisal Notes Essay
A. Explain the benefits of performance appraisal systems within an organization in
which you address the following: A1. Present the optimal results of a well
prepared and well delivered performance appraisal. *If the company establishes a
well prepared and well delivered performance appraisal, what are the best results
the company can expect? (employee prospective and company perspective are
good here) Performance appraisals are a tool that most companies use when
assessing their employees. A well prepared and well delivered performance appraisal
can be beneficial to both the employee and the company. The company benefits in
many different ways when they deliver this type of performance appraisal. The

(suggestion: ongoing activities and in the time proximal to the performance
review) It is important to make time for pre appraisal activities to make sure that
the benefits are at max potential. It will hurt the chances of maximizing gains for
both the company and the employee if the following activities are not done
beforehand. The most important thing when it comes to being ready for the
performance appraisal is being well prepared. The manager needs to make sure
that he sets aside enough time to perform the pre appraisal activities. These
activities include establishing a time for the appraisal and relating it to the
employee, making sure to lay out all new and old goals for the employee, giving
the employee an advance copy of the review, collecting the employee s review of
themselves, and collecting all notes taken that may validate your points and
emphasize your decisions as well as the last performance appraisal. It is important
to make sure that the employee has enough time to prepare for the appraisal. This
allows for quality feedback from them and will also lead to quality questions. In
order to make it the most beneficial appraisal possible, then both sides need to be
well prepared. Goals and expectations will be completely understood if both parties
have an idea of what s expected of them. The employee can have questions ready for
things that they may not understand. There may be instances where they can ask for
additional training in areas
50. Government Surveillance And Internet Privacy
After the tragedy of September 9, 2011 and the subsequent passing of the Patriot Act,
Government surveillance has expanded in the age of technology in which we
currently reside. Although the stated mission of this increase in surveillance of
American citizens was to prevent major terrorist incidents such as 9/11 from
happening again, many people refute this stated purpose as the truly invasive extent
of this surveillancewas revealed within the statements of Edward Snowden, a defector
from the National SecurityAgency. However, internet surveillance has proven to be
necessary in the newfound pervasiveness of online forums and websites that contain
large amounts of illegal activity such as child pornography. Altogether, I would say
responsibility to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the FBI and NSA, federal organizations/agencies, generally have the
duty to monitor certain sites for child pornography and other non Victimless crimes
being committed through the internet by users in the United States. The Internet users,
just like any other person within the United States, need to adhere to national law
and the FBI and NSA are directly obligated to provide this policing and protection
to other internet users and people in the real world who could be affected.
However the way in which this policing is done is where the duty of the FBI and
NSA is very much hotly debated, as there is abundant proof of potential abuse of
policing power with the invasive surveillance tools used by the NSA to monitor
American citizens after 9/11. For example, under the pretext of the

Oedipus...
Sigmund Freud s Interpretation of Sophocles Oedipus Tyrannus
Throughout the years, there have been many interpretations of Sophocles Oedipus
Tyrannus. However, one of the most interesting interpretations of the play would
have to be one that uses the theories of Sigmund Freud to analyze the actions of the
characters. The use of various aspects of Freudian theory such as the id, ego,
superego, and the Oedipus Complex reveals Oedipus and his behaviors throughout
the course of the play.
In order to completely understand Oedipus and his actions, we must first understand
the basics of Freud s theories. One of the most well known aspects of Freudian
theory is the Oedipus Complex. We can already see a relationship between the

The id is the unconscious part of our mind that contains our secret desires, darkest
wishes, (and) intense fears ( Psychoanalytic Criticism 2). The id is entirely
irrational and serves only to fulfill urges and wishes that the person most desires.
The superego is also unconscious and is driven by the morality principal. It
represents the demands of morality and of society (Mullahay 39). The superego
urges us to do what will be accepted by our peers and by society. It can be compared
to our conscious in the sense that it drives us to do what is right so that we won t
feel guilt or remorse. The third part to the trio is the ego, which is based solely on
logic and rationality, and is part of the conscious mind. The ego represents reason
and sanity and makes sensible and logical decisions even though these decisions
may not fulfill all of our desires (Mullahay 36). The ego (can be called) the
battleground for forces of the superego and id in that it regulates (the) id and comes
to terms with (the) superego ( Psychoanalytic Criticism 2).
Now that we understand the fundamentals of Freud s theories, we can look at the text
and see how these theories may or may not apply to Oedipus Tyrannus. First of all,
we will focus on how the Oedipus Complex is implemented throughout the play. In
Freud s theory, he believes that the

Devan Gilbert
Mrs. Myszkowski
English 1102
17 April 2016
Southern Gothic Literature In the 19th century, the Southern Gothic genre quickly
became popular after Edgar Allen Poe poems in the 18th century. Most writings were
formed around the Civil War era, which plays an enormous part in the tone and
setting in Southern Gothic writing styles. (O Connell 63) Southern Gothic writing
elements consist of horror, romance and psychological and domestic dramas (63).
The setting of Southern Gothic was always dingy and dark which explains the tone
of most southern states at this time. Southern Gothic writing styles were known to
be grotesque, violent and gloomy with dark psychological twists that were to be
carried on into the 20th century. There can also be other ways to exercise Southern
Gothic styles like including strange events, paranormal elements and representing
history in an almost comical approach. (63) There are some authors who have
written very influential Southern Gothic style literature, such as A Rose for Emily
by William Faulkner, A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People by
Flannery O Conner. The father of Southern Gothic literature is William Faulkner, he
is the most significant Southern Gothic writer with his most popular publishing A
Rose for Emily. He beautifully portrays the Southern Gothic style with a morbid
fictional story about Emily Grierson. Emily lost her father and was living alone in a
large house in a classy neighborhood, which she felt
