Summary Of The American Dream In Mcteague
The Genes Run in the Family
In the nineteenth century, America was a place of immigration and new ideas. Many immigrants came
to the United States in pursuit of the American dream, the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity
(Dictionary.com), but attaining this goal was not as easy as it may sound. Some were born into the
American dream while others who were born into the lower class had to try and work towards the
dream but oftentimes failed. In the novel McTeague, Frank Norris depicts how the force of heredity
affects an individual s success with the American dream through McTeague, Maria, and Zerkow. All
three of these characters are given parents and ancestries that are the main cause of their downfalls.
Norris demonstrates how in the end, one s own success is determined by that of their parents as he
supplies McTeague with several opportunities throughout the novel to change his fortune, but it is his
parents fault that he is not able to succeed. McTeagues father is described as steady, hard working
while at work, yet when at home he is a brute, crazy with alcohol (Norris 2). This alcoholism dug his
father deep into a hole and he eventually died from it, never amounting to anything more than a shift
boss at the mine. McTeague follows this path of his father when he too becomes a drunken brute and
his stupidity, the sluggishness of his brain, seemed to be unusually stimulated (Norris 234) by the
alcohol. McTeague s alcoholism leads him to beating Trina and eventually killing her for the money.
His father did not beat and kill McTeague s mother because she had no money that she was keeping
from him, but McTeague inevitably fell into his father s drunken footsteps and was pushed even
further by Trina s actions towards his death. One of McTeague s opportunities for success arises after
he kills Trina and leaves with all of the money, but his inherited stupidity managed to reap no benefit
from the opportunity. He was forced to leave the area and flee from law enforcement officers, so he
travelled to various mines, once again a miner like his father was. His father being a miner and
McTeague s imbecility work in harmony to conclude that it was inevitable McTeague would further
follow his father s

The Rights Of The United Kingdom
Although the restraints around contraception were loosening, the Irish State remained firm in their
belief on abortions. A referendum on the 8th Amendment of the Constitution Act, 1983 was elected by
Irish citizens. The article was amended to read: The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn
and, with due regard to the equal right to live of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and as
far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right. While the United Kingdom passed the
Abortion Act 1967 that allowed women to legally terminate a pregnancy under certain circumstances,
Irishwomen remained under the jurisdiction of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. The 8th
Amendment, or Article 40.3.3, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Attorney General discovered the Irish teen s situation and sought an injunction under Article
40.3.3 for the right to life of the unborn , delaying the procedure; the girl then threatened to commit
suicide if she was not permitted an abortion. The attorney general was not justified in extending the
law of abortion to other states where the services were legal since the law of Ireland did not extend to
other countries. The preference for the life of the unborn child over the mother was evident in the
court case. However, the circumstance for the loss of both lives called for immediate action in order to
preserve any life. The teenage girl was allowed an abortion under Article 40.3.3 claiming due regard
to the equal right to life of the mother . As a result of this court case, the 13th and 14th Amendments
of the Constitution were made to Article 40.3.3 to legalize information on abortive services abroad
and for the freedom to travel outside of Ireland for an abortion. The Regulation of Information
(Services outside the State for Termination of Pregnancies) Act, 1995 further outlined the 13th and
14th Amendments by requiring the patient to make the appointment for abortion abroad, mandatory
pregnancy counseling, and for the information on abortion services to be provided along with
information on parenting and adoption. The Censorship of Publications Act,

Conditioned Emotional Response
A conditioned emotional response is seen in classical conditioning after a conditioned stimulus has
been paired with an emotion producing unconditioned stimulus. In other words it is an emotional
response that has been classically conditioned to occur to learned stimuli. Watson and Rayner created
this for the first time with little Albert when he was about eight months and twenty six days. They
struck a hammer against a suspended steel bar and at the third time was when little Albert reacted and
began to cry. The next time they tested a conditioned emotional response was when little Albert was at
the age of eleven months. They created this conditioned emotional response by starting off the
experiment with a white rat. At the beginning little

Symptoms And Treatment Of Skin
When asked about their major illnesses, the client stated to have hypertension, severe dyspnea, and
edema. The client also stated that she suffered from a heart attack in the past, which was due to high
blood pressure. Many of the client s problems branched off from the heart attack and hypertension.
For example, a heart attack and high blood pressure can cause heart failure, heart failure can cause
pulmonary edema, and pulmonary edema can lead to swelling of the lower extremities and dyspnea
(Grossman Porth, 2014). However, the most recent hospitalization for the client was due to severe
edema, and trouble breathing. Severe edema is one of the major causes for impaired skin integrity.
Skin integrity is defined as the state in which an individual s skin is at risk of being adversely altered
(kloop, Storey, Bronstein, 2012). There are three major factors that can relate to client s skin
alteration: decreased tissue perfusion, prolonged bed rest, and pulmonary edema.
One factor that can cause impaired skin integrity is decreased tissue perfusion. Decreased tissue
perfusion refers to decrease in oxygen resulting in failure to nourish tissues at the capillary level
(Wilson, 2012). Reduced tissue perfusion causes the body to become distressed because it is not
receiving enough oxygen. This causes the blood to shunt to the core of the body where the vital organs
are located, such as the heart and the brain (Grossman Porth, 2014). Since the client suffered from

Middle School Curriculum Night
Curriculum Night
Rationale
As students move from an elementary school setting to a middle school setting, ensuring a smooth
transition is a collaborative effort involving teachers, parents, students and school administration.
Often parents and students are nervous about the magnitude of this transition and easing those
concerns can be handled by hosting a curriculum night. The purpose of Curriculum Night is to
acquaint all students and parents with their teachers and administration as well as provide useful
information concerning what the student will learn and the environment in which he/she will learn.
The Curriculum Night addressed in this paper is specific Exceptional Education students in the 6th

An Article On Faith By The Church Of The Nazarene
Understanding whom God is one of the hardest tasks to wrap our minds around because of how
majesty God is and we will never be able to fully understand everything about God. However, God
does allow his Word to tell us more about Him and more importantly the love we he has for us all. To
understand how important who God is all one has to do is look at the articles of faith from the Church
of the Nazarene. The very first article of faith explains the beliefs of the Triune God. Article 1 states,
We believe in one eternally existent, infinite God, Sovereign Creator and Sustainer of the universe;
that He only is God, holy in nature, attributes, and purpose. The God who is holy love and light is
Triune in essential being, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Manual).
I believe in the first article of faith by the Church of the Nazarene, and including in the article of faith
we see some attributes of God, which I feel is important to go into more detail so we can have a better
understand of God. Dunning explains the essential nature of God is holy love and how we must take
into account of the way the holiness of God informs the attempt to ascribe the attributes to God
(Dunning 192). Its important to understands holiness is simply a background for all of God s
attributes. It is not a primary attribute of God and to recognize that holiness means separateness. This
is significant as it affirms God characters as perfect and pure and full of love. His holiness will be

Review Of Christopher Nolan s The Dark Knight

Prompt #3 Scene analysis
I chose to analyze The Dark Knight (2008) directed by Christopher Nolan. My scene begins at
00:01:13 and ends at 00:05:54. I chose to analyze this scene because it contains interesting points that
I have recognized, as the villain shows different characteristics, using aspects such as camera angles.
In this analysis, I will be looking at the setting, lighting, sound and the use of the camera and how
each of these views influences the audience.
The setting within this sequence takes place downtown Gotham city in a building, from ziplining, on
the street, to the van, outside of the building, and last inside of the bank. The scene starts, the camera
zooms up onto a building. The window is then broken and the camera switches showing a masked
man shooting a zip line across from the building to another building. The clowned mask is being used
to hide their faces which is iconic and is an example you would expect to see in a heist film. The
sound in the back ground is a fast hard tempo beat which gives the audience the impression that this is
a heist film. The next shot shows a man standing at the corner of the street holding a clown mask in
his hand and a bag. The camera slowly zooms up to the mask leading the audience to believe that they
may see the identity of the person holding it. This man is unlike the others characters he is not wearing
his mask and this builds pressure, but this up tempo

Slave owners had the right to beat, whip, brand, or imprison slaves for petty offenses or for attempted
escape. Owners vied with each other in creating imaginative punishments, as historian Kenneth M.
Stampp relates: A Maryland tobacco grower forced a hand [slave] to eat the worms he failed to pick
off tobacco leaves. A Mississippian gave a runaway a wretched time by requiring him to sit at the table
and eat his evening meal with the white family. A Louisiana planter humiliated disobedient male field
hands by giving them women s work such as washing clothes, by dressing them in women s clothing,
and by exhibiting them on a scaffold wearing a red flannel cap (Streissguth 13). How did slaves react

Skinner, Behaviorism, And Operant Conditioning
Skinner took major efforts toward the approach of behaviorism to expand the field, following the
initial works of Edward Thorndike. He was instrumental in redesigning and defining the law of effect.
Skinner segmented behaviorism into two main sections such as respondent conditioning and operant
conditioning. He associated that the later the consequences tailored to the behaviors are manipulated,
the more frequent similar scenarios are played out in the future.
Introduction Skinner, who was a behavioral psychologist, propelled his work towards the field of
behaviorism concerning operant conditioning. Though, his work was more instrumental in structuring

of behavior. He held a belief that associated response loop had a critical essence in providing an

He had his critical regards for the outlining and recognition of superstition beliefs. Superstition, a term

to his experiments, Skinner undertook punishments that can be explained as acts of imposing and
inflicting sanction for certain typical undesirable behaviors, in a bid to achieve conditioning towards a
certain behavior. He also had an inclusion of aversion that talks about a tendency to repel and avoid a
situation that is typically considered as the state of being. Skinner had a belief in the understanding
that any behavior could be explained by any action undertaken and valence of equitable performance.
Skinner introduced much easier and simpler explanations for the reinforcement experiments that were

Family Systems Theory And Its Impact On The Practices Of...
Abstract
This research paper evaluates the Bowen Family Systems Theory and its impact on the practices of
Marriage and Family Counseling. Dr. Murray Bowen is credited with being one of the founders of
family systems theory. This paper will discuss the eight concepts which Bowen deemed causes anxiety
within the family system. Also, the goals and practices which have been utilized by professionals
within the psychology field relation to the Bowen Family Systems Theory. Analysis provides that
anxiety is passed along through the family system by the triangle concept and when families are
dysfunctional there are several outcomes based upon the concepts developed by Dr. Bowen. The
therapeutic structure which is developed by Bowen allows clients to help themselves and lower levels
of anxiety over time.
Bowen Family System Theory
On June 26th 2015 the U.S Supreme court legalized gay marriage in all 50 states, and this was a
historic change in how marriage was defined in the US (Procon.org). Over the past couple of decades
the traditional definition of marriage and family have changed and includes various backgrounds,
sexual preferences, and blended family systems. We find that there are several definitions of family
such as the traditional family can include heterosexual couples, single parents, and families including
blood relative, adoptive families, foster relationships, grandparents raising grandchildren, and
stepfamilies (ceunit.com). Extended family can be

Call Of The Wild Fittest Analysis
Some people and animals just weren t fit for the Klondike. In the adventure story The Call of the Wild
by Jack London, there is a dog named Buck that goes from domesticated in Santa Clara Valley,
California to the Klondike during the Yukon gold rush. Buck quickly learns the ways of the North land
like the Law of Club and Fang. Not all the dogs and people that Buck traveled with were fit for the
Klondike. In the The Call of the Wild the theme of survival of the fittest shines through from the dogs
to the people. One of the first ways the theme of survival of the fittest is shown is when one of the
dogs on Bucks sled dog team named Curly was attacked by other dogs and killed. On the sled dog s
journey they stop to sleep and rest, but one of the times that they stopped they got something they didn
t expect. One of the dogs named Curly was really friendly and went over to see the other dogs that
weren t on her sled dog s team. Curly then got attacked by dogs that she had never met. But she lay
there limp and lifeless in the bloody, trampled snow, almost literally torn to pieces, the Swart half
breed standing over her and cursing horribly (London 17). This proves that survival of the fittest was
in The Call of the Wild because some dogs just weren t fit for the Klondike. Like Curly and many
other dogs and some people were just not fit for the Yukon. Some dogs and people just didn t have the
characteristics to survive in the Yukon, some changed their characteristics like Buck did and some like
Curly thought that all the dogs were nice like she had known before. Another reason to show survival
of the fittest is in The Call of the Wild is when one of the other dogs on the sled team named Dolly got
rabbis by starving huskies that tried to raid their camp for food. When the starving huskies tried to raid
Buck s sled teams camp for their food they ended up giving Dolly rabies. Once Dolly got the rabbis
she started to chase Buck but when they got back around by where the sled dog owners then took an
ax to Dolly s head. The dog driver held the ax poised in his hand, and as Buck shot past him the ax
crashed down upon mad Dolly s head (London 34). This shows that during this scene, Dolly was not

Taking a Look at Eurasian Milfoil
Invasive species are organisms that harm a new environment that they are not native to. Many
invasive species like Eurasian milfoil are easily able to reproduce and can do so fast. Due to this, the
limited space in a body of water or area of land is quickly taken over by the invasive species so other
native plants face the risk of death or even extinction. Overall, these invasive species can do great
harm to an ecosystem or an economy, causing problems that are destructive to numerous organisms.
Eurasian milfoil or Myriophyllum spicatum is an aquatic invasive plant that can be found throughout
the Chicagoland area and in surrounding bodies of water. This plant can be a hinderance to swimming,
boating, and fishing because of their thick, tangled stems and mats of vegetation. According to the
Minnesota Sea Grant, Eurasian milfoil also overcrowd a body of water which leaves little room for the
plants native to the Great Lakes. One prediction is that if the Eurasian milfoil is not stopped, a
reduction of biodiversity may result in Chicago and the areas surrounding it. If this was to occur, the
ecosystems of the Midwest region would be significantly impacted in a negative way. As reported by
the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), Eurasian milfoil, which is native to Europe,
Asia, and Northern Africa, was most likely accidentally introduced to the United States through ballast
water, which is water from other places that is dumped into another body of water to aid in

The Effect of Salt Concentration on Osmosis in Potato
Part A:
Title: Diffusion
Diffusion is the spontaneous movement of particles from where they are more concentrated to where
they are less concentrated. For this experiment, a 14 cm glass was filled with cold tap water. A drop of
red food coloring was dropped in the cup. A stopwatch was used to measure the time it took for the
food coloring to get to the bottom of the cup. The average diffusion rate was .78 cm a second. If a
different color was used, I do not think it would have made a difference in the results. The mood of the
person experimenting could possibly alter the results. For example, if a person is under stress, they
may accidentally squeeze too much altering the rate of diffusion. If the water was warmer, this may
have sped the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You should consider each of the four solutions and explain what happened using the terms hypertonic
hypotonic and isotonic. In osmosis, the flow of the water from or to a cell depends on whether the cell
is immersed in a solution that is isotonic, hypotonic, or hypertonic to the solution. If the cell is isotonic
to a solution, this means that the solute concentration of a cell and its environment is the same and
therefore there will be no movement of water. If the solute concentration is lower than that of the cell,
then water will flow into the cell, causing it to expand. If the solute concentration is lower than that of
the cell then water will flow out of the cell, causing it to shrink. 2. Were your hypotheses right or

Suggestion: Think of all the places in your method and materials where accuracy may not have been
the best. Describe several. There could have been several variables that could have affected the results
of this lab. One would have been if the salt measurements were incorrect. If more or less salt was

been the size of the potatoes being measured incorrectly. If

The Heart Essay
THE HEART The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a closed fist that functions as the body s
circulatory pump. It takes in deoxygenated blood through the veins and delivers it to the lungs for
oxygenation before pumping it into the various arteries (which provide oxygen and nutrients to body
tissues by transporting the blood throughout the body). The heart is located in the thoracic cavity
medial to the lungs and posterior to the sternum.
On its superior end, the base of the heart is attached to the aorta, pulmonary arteries and veins, and the
vena cava. The inferior tip of the heart, known as the apex, rests just superior to the diaphragm. The
base of the heart is located along the body s midline with the apex pointing toward ... Show more

Myocardium makes up the majority of the thickness and mass of the heart wall and is the part of the
heart responsible for pumping blood. Below the myocardium is the thin endocardium layer.
Endocardium. Endocardium is the simple squamous endothelium layer that lines the inside of the
heart. The endocardium is very smooth and is responsible for keeping blood from sticking to the
inside of the heart and forming potentially deadly blood clots.
Chambers of the Heart
The heart contains 4 chambers: the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, and left ventricle. The atria
are smaller than the ventricles and have thinner, less muscular walls than the ventricles. The atria act
as receiving chambers for blood, so they are connected to the veins that carry blood to the heart. The
ventricles are the larger, stronger pumping chambers that send blood out of the heart. The ventricles
are connected to the arteries that carry blood away from the heart.
The chambers on the right side of the heart are smaller and have less myocardium in their heart wall
when compared to the left side of the heart. This difference in size between the sides of the heart is
related to their functions and the size of the 2 circulatory loops. The right side of the heart maintains
pulmonary circulation to the nearby lungs while the left side of the heart pumps blood all the way to
the extremities of the body in the systemic circulatory

Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is only a recently found human infectious agent,
originating in the Middle East (Zaki et al 2012). MERS infections are due to an individual being

typically acute, upper and lower respiratory infections (Tyrell Myint 1996). MERS like all corona
viruses, are spherical or pleomorphic enveloped which contain a single stranded positive sense RNA

humans (Azhar et al 2014). As of 2014, there were 707 patients suffering from MERS throughout 21
countries, with a case fatality rate of 35% (Sharif Yakan Kanj 2014).). Furthermore, peak infections
appear to occur seasonally, peaking between April and June each year (Sharif Yakan Kanj 2014).). A
coincidence of the seasonality of the diseases is that it is parallel with camel birthing seasons, where
younger camels are infected easier than older ones (Sharif Yakan Kanj 2014).). Although it has spread
some distance (as previously mentioned), the spread of the disease has occurred in small clusters,
typically infecting a family or healthcare area (Breban et al 2013). Animal to human transmission,
such as a camel to human, must involve close exposure of the infected animal, as well as a passing of
aerosol nasal droplets from the animal into the human respiratory tract (Azhar et al 2014). Human to
human transmission occurs the same way, an infected individual can pass MERS coughing, sneezing
and nasal secretions (Azhar et al 2014). Although, transmission of MERS is known to be a sporadic
disease, which occurs between family members and requires prolonged exposure (Mackay Arden

The Importance Of Keeping Secrets
Over the years, many individuals have kept secrets to themselves, whether it becomes a negative or
positive outcome. Everyone has secrets, it s all around us. Your brain doesn t like to keep secrets since
it increases the levels of stress hormones in your body. Many think that secrets should not be kept
hidden because it can result in health problems such as complications in your brain s orbital prefrontal
cortex. Keeping secrets usually results in a harmful way. It s not easy to keep something important
from the people you care about without telling a few lies. It s better to confess your secrets as a result
of feeling confident and not having to hide any information. Telling the truth is generally a better thing
to do instead of keeping secrets which leads to unnecessary amounts of drama.
Keeping secrets are harmful because your health can be at risk due to high amounts of stress levels
which places you in a difficult position. For example, in the article, Keeping Secrets Can Be
Hazardous To Your Health , it says, your brain s orbital prefrontal cortex stimulates in your mind just
how bad sharing the secret will be ... the cortex becomes stressed. This quote is relevant because it
shows that your brain won t function in a proper way due to all the stress you re experiencing.
Keeping the secret private for a long time will cause severe damage to your brain and mental health.

One of my great difficulties with Kant s moral philosophy...
One of my great difficulties with Kant s moral philosophy is that it suggests that our moral obligations
leave us helpless when dealing with evil. Kant s theory sets a high ideal of conduct and tells us to live
up to that ideal regardless of what other persons are doing. Imagine you are a character in a
Shakespearean play and are watching your father getting murdered. He is the King and you aspire that
one day you will take his place (Even though you know it won t happen, because you re a woman).

Kant s idea seems to be that we treat someone as an end only insofar as we act toward him or her in a
way that he or she can understand as appropriate or justified: we should be able to explain our reasons
in such a way that the person will see the reasonableness of acting in the way we propose. Thus, for
example, Kant writes: he who is thinking of making a lying promise to others will see at once that he
would be using another human being merely as a means, without the latter at the same time containing
in himself the end. For he whom I propose by such a promise to use for my own purposes cannot
possibly assent to my mode of acting toward him, and therefore cannot himself contain the end of this
action. What is ruled out by this idea appears to be actions which treat others in such a way that they
do not have the opportunity to consent to what we are doing. So we treat others as mere means when
we force them to do something, or when we obtain their consent through pressure or dishonesty. That
s something I think is special about being human having a normative self conception, wanting, to
respect yourself, thinking of yourself as worthy or unworthy, rating yourself, especially now with
media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even online dating sites. It s a condition that
gives a strange extra dimension to human life, both a special source of pride and interest and a
profound cause of suffering. Some animals certainly want to be

about what you would only hear. War had cost many lives, as many as 55 million killed in battle or on
the home front. The USSR, suffered more than 20 million deaths also Poland lost one fifth of its
population. The overall number of Jews who died was six million. People had lived in fear of enemy
air raids, of which took thousands of lives and homes. Also across Asia, millions of people lived under
enemy occupation. Many people died because they were forced to work or fight for the enemy against
their own country or people. France had to recover from the effects of the Nazi occupation. Altogether

Comparing Beowulf And Grendel And Beowulf
Since it was first discovered and translated, Beowulf has represented one of the finest examples of
heroic poetry. As a tale reflecting the noble deeds of a hero, it uniquely expresses the cultural values of
the Anglo Saxons from whom it originated since heroes often do reflect the best of what their culture
deems worthwhile. However, modern adaptations of this work express a different set of cultural
values; values unique to modern society. When comparing the translated poem, Beowulf, to the 2005
motion picture, Beowulf and Grendel, it is obvious to see that our morals and ideas are reflected on
this ancient poem. The movie, Beowulf and Grendel, and the epic, Beowulf, are prime examples of the
radical cultural differences that have evolved over time. In Beowulf, the epic, we see very simplistic
characters. Beowulf, for example, is simply a hero who kills monsters. That is all he has ever wanted
in his life and that is all that defines him. In the motion picture, we see Beowulf as a man that has
risen from his unique childhood and has made a name for himself. We see Beowulf as a flawed human
being; not as a muscle head hero who is never defeated. This humanizes Beowulf and makes him a
more appealing character that people can identify with. In the epic, Grendel is a demonic monster who
kills for no reason; he is only reason considered evil, because he does not pay the blood price after
killing someone. In the motion picture, Grendel is made to look more human;

2007-2008 Financial Crisis
The Global Financial Crisis of 2007 2008
The Global Financial Crisis 2007 2008 Economists and scholars spend years dissecting financial
markets and evaluating the causes of booms and busts. Throughout United States history there have
been multiple economic booms that were underestimated and followed by recessions. In the situation
of the 2007 2008 global financial crisis many culprits have been identified as causes, such as loose
monetary policy, credit booms, deregulation, over complexity, and greed. Since the economic boom
was solely dependent on weak policies and misconceptions, this leads me to believe prevention was
possible with adequate regulatory policy, risk assessment and clarifications for commercial banks.

Generally homeowners were required to meet certain qualifications in order to borrow funds for
mortgages, also known as prime mortgages. Since the prime mortgage market had receded, lenders
were encouraged to lower their requirements for lending and began to allow subprime mortgages.
These less responsible homeowners began to default on their mortgages, which turned investment
bankers stream of mortgage payments into empty houses. Increases in foreclosures raise the supply of
available houses, which lowers the fair market values of houses. The prime mortgage homeowners
were left with houses that were highly devalued relative to their mortgages and began to abandon their
mortgage obligations. Mortgage lenders, investment bankers, and outside investors froze their
activities, as they faced possible bankruptcy.
Regulatory/Supervisory Inadequacies Deregulation is believed to be the underlying cause of all
economic downturns, as its scope of responsibility reaches all markets. In the 1930s the United States
experienced a bank crisis that sparked a widespread distrust in the banking system and people
withdrew their money from the depository institutions overnight. The sudden retraction of the money
supply from the economy caused many banks to close and the economy to suffer. The Banking Act of
1933, also known as the Glass Steagall Act, was created to insure depositors

The Accomplishment Of Space Travel
The accomplishment of space travel on 12 April 1961 marked the dawn of a new space era. Since
then, humans have advanced in technology and knowledge through space exploration. However,
although we watch video clips of astronauts enjoying a gravity free environment, there are challenges
in space, the greatest threat being the lack of oxygen and pressure. Furthermore, spaceflight has a
significant impact on the human body as extreme variations in temperature and intense radiation from
sunlight increase the chance of cancer. Significant adverse effects of long term weightlessness are
muscle atrophy (degeneration of cells) and deterioration of the skeleton (Kanas and Manzey 15).
Weightlessness is also known to cause the moon face appearance ... Show more content on

Human physiology is adapted to living in the Earth s atmosphere and a certain amount of oxygen to
breathe. The primary challenge faced by astronauts is the lack of oxygen and pressure in space. The
minimum partial pressure of oxygen that can be tolerated is 16 kPa (atmospheric pressure is 100 kPa),
below which the astronaut is in danger of dying from hypoxia, a medical condition in which the body
or a region of the body is deprived of adequate oxygen supply (Harding 27). In the vacuum of space,
gas exchange in the lungs continues as normal but results in the removal of all gases from the
bloodstream. Furthermore, blood and other body fluids boil at the pressure below 6.3 kPa, resulting in
the formation of gas bubbles in body fluids, a condition called ebullism (29). However, most
spacesuits provide sufficient oxygen pressure to sustain full consciousness. Another crisis that
astronauts face in space is the rapid compression (sudden drop in pressure of a sealed system). The
risk of fatal rupture of the delicate alveoli of the lungs is low, however, rupture of eardrums and
sinuses; shock caused accelerated oxygen consumption lead to barotrauma and hypoxia (29).
Astronauts without the protection of Earth s atmosphere and magnetosphere are exposed to high levels
of radiation. High levels of radiation damage lymphocytes (cells involved in maintaining the immune
system), causing lowered immunity in the astronauts. Radiation from cosmic rays significantly
increases chances of

Pedagogic Design And Second Language Acquisition
The Effectiveness of the Pedagogic Design and the Implementation of Computer Assisted Language
Learning in relation to Second Language Acquisition
Second Language Acquisition or SLA is a term used to describe learning a second language. There are
a number of ways in which one can learn a second language, and in this essay I am going to discuss
the links and relationship between second language acquisition and computer assisted language
learning, with particular focus on the pedagogical aspects. The most obvious approach to learning a
second language is undoubtedly through the Pedagogic Design, or learning from a teacher in a
structured classroom environment. Computer Assisted Language Learning is another commonly used
resource for language learning, and this is regularly referred to as CALL. The ... Show more content

It originates from the general learning theory of Constructionism. It is a very learner centred method
in Second Language Acquisition. Basically, the student s previous knowledge is expanded on and
mentally constructed into new knowledge. The creative construction theory is often referred to as the
Naturalistic Approach to second language acquisition. This theory complements that of Noam
Chomsky, an American linguist and language theorist who believes that children are born with an
inherited ability to learn any human language. He claims that many constructions in language, which
children use so precisely, must be already imprinted on the child s mind. Chomsky believes that every
child s brain has a language acquisition device , which is the reason that children acquire their first
language so effortlessly. Second language acquisition in relation to the creative construction theory is
an entirely internal process and unlike other SLA theories, it is not necessary that the learner speaks or

The Forty Acres Scholarship
The formal definition of a community, is a group of people living in the same vicinity while having a
common characteristic(s). However a community is much more than that, a community is a place that
everyone can benefit and gain from people around them, as well as learn from experiences that they
have faced and share it with others to avoid the same mistakes. In adittion to that, it is also a place
where you can count on in times of trouble and dire need. This philosophy of a community is what
allows individuals and eventually groups of people to be better off and achieve their goals while
helping others in the process. If selected for the Forty Acres Scholars Program I hope to contribute my

Negligence in Healtcare Law
MBA 5101 Unit 1 Case Study Gary Campbell Our text defines a tort as a civil wrong and negligence
as a tort, a civil or personal wrong (Pozgar, 2012). Negligence as it is related to healthcare is an
unintentional commission or omission of an act that a reasonably prudent person or organization

could be considered negligence. The case I have chosen to study is one from the Circuit Court of

Retention Essay
Retention is one of the key prerequisites for or outcomes of learning that can either be reinforced
positively as well as negatively or otherwise optimized with respect to how the study time is to be
distributed across sessions. Intuitively, it would appear plausible that, increasing the uninterrupted
study duration would map into superior retention and learning outcomes. The present paper critically
addresses some empirical findings that could question the unaided intuition along these lines while
shedding light on the interaction channels or trade offs to be defined across a set of additional
explanatory variables.

alternatively take prohibitively long in terms of fixed duration (which exogenous time constraint can

For that matter, massed or amassed exposure to prolonged session or a series of homogeneous study

concealing some critical nuances that might call for further extensions to the naïve analysis.
In particular, although the study appears to chiefly criticize as overlearning setups featuring highly
homogeneous exposures (e.g. word lists, math problems, and the like), still these might have some
crucial heterogeneity to them that renders even such seemingly unrewarding schemes effective in
enabling the learners to gain an appreciation for repetitive as well as systematic patterns. In other

Similarities Between Martin Luther King Jr And Malala Youfzai
Your Intro:
According to Martin Luther King Jr, Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step
toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggles (brainyquote.com). This is a very
powerful quote because if you do not struggle or sacrifice in life, when come to a point where you
have to make decisions or take action, you re not going to be able to decide what to do or think. This
is how we progress and go forward, because we make mistakes and learn from them to make things
better in the world around us. In fact, Dr. King s quote suggests that struggle often motivates change.
For example, Many activists have been motivated by their personal struggles. These are people who
can truly speak for their cause, because they lived it,and really understand what they say and do.
Activists who were motivated by their personal struggles are people like Harriet Tubman, Martin
Luther King Jr. and Malala Yousafzai. Even though they all struggled with different things at different
times, their struggles motivated them to speak out for their cause and change the world.

To measure customer service, different tools can be used, like: NPS surveys, exit interviews, focus

executed in operational sense, so as a example from my experience, I compare two different hotels
with different standards, so to the first hotel the person from reception is welcoming the customer
good day, how are you? .That may sound fine, the customer opinion is the greetings was nice, friendly
and warm... , customer is happy with the services but maybe is not enough, what is behind this, is you
may want to lift the standards of the service level, to be more professional, so to the second hotel the
receptionist is welcoming the customer good day sir, welcome to our hotel... , the difference in this
case if professionalism. The customers might not make the difference as long as they get what they are
expecting to get and customer service can be good from customer point of view, but mystery shopping
is showing what needs to be improved, changed, updated in order to lift up the standards, so is trying

Everyone Focused On Zuckerberg s Hoodie
Designer clothing, luxury cars, flashy handbags. These are just a few of the status symbols that
differentiate the rich from the poor. These items are often used to determine the who s who in today s
society by showing off wealth and status. Although others should not be based solely on their income,
this judgement is sadly commonplace. The rich and the poor are segregated both by accident and on
purpose in many situations and the lower class is the one that deals with the brunt of that
discrimination. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, the upper class loses familiarity with the
problems that typical Americans face (Palacios). Two articles that highlight this issue are Why is
Everyone Focused on Zuckerberg s Hoodie by Somini Sengupta and The Logic of Stupid Poor People

Amontillado Symbolism
While reading the story The Cask of Amontillado, many literary themes came to mind: truth vs deciet,
manipulation, the downfalls of greed and pride, vulnerabilty, and vengence. Michael Lewis s analysis
of the story however, brought up a major point that I hadn t considered. In his article, Lewis discusses
the possibility that Poe used the amontillado symbollically and delves into potential hidden or duel
meanings. Before analyzing The Cask of Amontillado himslef, Lewis acknowledged fellow writer
Bruce Kirkham s references to Poe s affinity for word play and idea that Poe had chosen amontillado
specifically for its associations with the Italian word for sum or amount . He explains Kirkham s view
that this relates to the idea of Montresor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this point of view, as Lewis points out, one can easily relate Fortunato s drunken artifical
sweetness to that of imitation amontillado. Montresor s disgust with Fortunato would then mirror
Fortunato s disgust with imposter alcohols. Upon further analysis however, Lewis suggests the
possibility that it is actually Fortunato s lack of a protective layer , or fleur in terms of amontillado,
rather than his spurious nature, that offends Montresor. Using this idea as a basis for thought, Lewis
expands the correlations between amontillado and the characters relationships and actions to include
the alcohol cask and Fortunato s casket, both containing extra space; the failure of either Fortunato or
poor sherry to become properly refined; the fool who cannot distinguish Sherry from Amontillado and
the fool Fortunato himself proved to be in his oblivion to his plight. Additionally Lewis points out that
Fortunato s alcoholism may have caused both this oblivion and the injuries he had placed on
Montressor in the past. In this case, Montresor would have succeeded at exploiting the very weakness
in Fortunato that had caused the damage for which he saught

It s a smart and fun idea that it s inside the tampon machine, although it s not clear how it got there.
The idea of the statue comes early and sets up nice anticipation.
However, the true inciting event is when Vinette discovers that she now has superpowers. This comes
a bit late. Consider eliminating the dream. While there are some fun visuals in the dream, such as the
string of tampons, the dream slows the pace down and isn t essential to the storytelling.
Currently, the reveal that Vinette has changed comes around page 24, but consider trying to move this
up to around page 15. Make sure to highlight her denial and have fun with her discovering her new
powers.
The first act also sets up the idea of drugs being distributed at the school. So, when Vinette discovers
she has powers and decides she wants to fight crime, given her desire to be a cop, make sure she
verbalizes that she wants to find out who is dealing drugs at the school. This makes her goal clearer
and more tangible. She can decide to practice her new skills at crime fighting, but this is where the
structure is the weakest. There s a series of scenes in which she talks to her friends and then goes on
several crime stopping adventures.
Unfortunately, this makes the structure weaker and a bit more fragmented. Also, the idea of attempted
rape doesn t fit with the tone. Consider focusing more on her investigation of who might be
distributing the drugs. Peel away her powers.

Essay on Tay-Sachs
Tay Sachs
Abstract
Tay Sachs is a disease caused by a mutation to the gene which codes for Hex A. Without Hex A, a cell
cannot degrade GM2 ganglioside into GM3 ganglioside. This results in a build up of ganglioside s in
lysosomes of neurons. The result is varying degrees of mental deterioration. New DNA based
screening is currently being developed to replace the enzyme based screening techniques that have
been used since 1969. This will not only speed up the diagnosis, but also allow for earlier detection of
Tay Sachs by using the parents genotypes.

calendars. Every year the fair is held for ten days in the middle of August. Many counties in Iowa hold
county fairs, but the Iowa State Fair is the biggest fair of them all. People from all around the state and
even throughout the country come here to show off their accomplishments, listen to live music, camp,
and have fun at the Thrill Park. Just last year, over a million people visited the fair throughout the ten
days of activities. Many kids that I go to school with prepare for this week all year round. They raise
and take care of different animals such as pigs and cows and show them at their local county fair and
then if they get selected as one of the top participants, they get to go on to show their animal at the
Iowa State Fair. You can also go to the state fair for creating art, projects, and photography. They have
all the outstanding artwork of the kids on display for everyone to see. The talent that the kids have is
just remarkable. The Iowa State fair is a great place to see the culture and even the history of

Ineffective Human Resources Leads At The Performance Gap...
Ineffective Human Resources leads to the performance gap. There is no doubt that there are an
insufficient number of lab technicians which might have caused deficiencies in human resources.
However, the organization has eminently framed the lab hours of the diagnostic department in a
structured way, so that a technician is available for every scheduled appointment at each lab.
Dr. Lalitha agreed on early check up for Mrs. Kumari. She has eminently utilized the available time
generated due to the absence of another patient. She was successful in synchronizing the demand and
capacity.
The lack of new curtains and air fresheners questions the efficiency of the inventory control. The
organization must assign a person to check inventory on a regular basis to avoid any shortage.
Every individual in the hospital have his or her equal contribution towards overall service quality,
including the customer himself/herself. Patients are expected to have a minimum knowledge of their
roles and responsibilities to get real and persistent services. Karuna did not read the website
thoroughly, before blaming the hospital personals, for not providing transport services. She and her
father did not use the option to call to the hospital for assistance in filling the forms. The patient from
the next bed started screaming, without even thinking how it wound impact the other patients.
Proper education and training is the only way to reduce this type of service gap. The organization must

Pearl Harbor Air Raid Analysis
Because of the sudden attacks, the air raid on Pearl Harbor had three very unusual features regarding
the injuries for the medical personnel to deal with. First, there was a great number of casuaIties
received at the hospitals in a short period of time; second, many patients had been overboard at some
point and were covered with fuel oil; third, there was a very high percentage of burn cases (Hayden).
How did the hospitals handle all of these tragedies at once and remain successful?
Just 36 hours before the air raid, a lecture was given to all the medical personnel in the area about how
to handle the quantities of wounded in an attack setting. After, they had a scenario were stress was
placed on the personnel to quickly and adequately clean wounds by soap and water, followed by the
surgical removal of lacerated or contaminated tissue. Three criteria were to be fulfilled: (1) obtaining
normal color, (2) bleeding, and (3) muscle contraction. When this was completed, the next step was to
place in the wound an adequate amount of a sulfonamide drug, either sulfanilamide and sulfathiazole.
No wounds were to be sutured, but instead left wide open or to have nonabsorbable interrupted sutures
placed, but not tied until the third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several plastic surgery clinics were set up in the United States for these purposes. After the
servicemen were properly treated and were free of infection, their deformities could go under the
knife. Because the plastic surgeons of the time specifically worked with war wounds, they knew
exactly what the best solution for each case was with the medicine of the time. Plastic surgery
continues to be a leading fixator for war torn bodies and creates peace within the individual.
Understanding the techniques of the first plastic surgeons can be beneficial in order to make modern

Instrumental Relationships And Adolescent Relationships
The variety of films for this class portray youth culture and the array of experiences and influences
that affect adolescents in their transition from childhood to adulthood. One of the central issues found
in the films is the idea of status relations. Status is among the most important and controversial aspects
of adolescence, and youth often interact with each other in unique, specific ways to maintain it. This
paper will explore instrumental versus expressive relationships and status relations in high school in
Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Dazed and Confused. While Heckerling s film portrays a variety of
expressive relationships, Dazed and Confused exhibits many instrumental relationships both of which
affect status relations in high schools in different ways. While expressive relationships discourage
status relations, instrumental relationships encourage them. To begin, status is one of if not the most
prevalent issue among adolescents in the high school setting. It is difficult to break down status into
each of its many components, but the root of it all lies in the relationships formed and held by youth.
The two defining types of adolescent relationships are instrumental and expressive relationships. In
his 2016 book, Freaks, Geeks, and Cool Kids, Milner explains that Instrumental relationships are
formed for some specific purpose or goal; expressive relations are those that have no specific purpose
but focus on companionship (Milner, 2016). It is obvious that

Rhetorical Techniques Used In The ASPCAAdvertising
The ASPCA announcement featuring Sarah Mclachlan is an extremely well known artifact that vividly
portrays images of many different animals. The ASPCA is an organization that works to rescue
animals from abuse, pass humane laws, and share resources with shelters nationwide. The first scene
in the advertisement is a shaking dog in a cage that appears to be sad and terrified. From the first scene
on it is clear that the advertisement has a very sad mood to it. The ad then fades to text that says,
Everyday in America thousands of animals suffer from cruelty and neglect. It continues with more
videos of animals that appear to be injured and neglected. It fades to text that reads, thousands were
rescued last year. The advertisement continues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pathos is a method that affects the audience s emotions, whether it be an attempt to make the viewer
happy, mad, sad, joyful, surprised, etc. In this advertisement there are a variety of methods used to
appeal to the audiences emotion. The first method demonstrated is the use of vivid imagery. The
announcement shows a lot of different animals that all have been recently rescued. The animals all
have very sad and helpless visages; it is clear that some of the animals have suffered from some bad
injuries as if to display that they have been neglected. This aims to make the viewers very sad. This
pulls at the heartstrings of most of viewers because almost everyone has had a family pet some time in
their life. The viewers feel a sense of compassion and sadness for these sorrowful looking animals
because they couldn t imagine of their pet had to go through abuse or neglect. Even if the viewer
doesn t own a pet it s almost impossible to not feel sad for powerless animals that have had to go
through such torment. This is just one method the ASPCA announcement uses to make its audience
sad. The pathos technique is also employed by the use of music in this advertisement. Angel by Sarah
Mclachlan is a very powerful and emotional piece. The song has undoubtedly sad tone. The song s
message resonates perfectly with the advertisement s message, and it suggests that the audience can be
the animals angels or saviors. Playing Angel through out the advertisement only further enhances the
strong sense of sadness that it aims to provoke onto the audience. Lastly, the announcement uses
strong dialogue to demonstrate the rhetorical device pathos. Sarah Mclachlan s tone through out the
commercial is very soft and somewhat somber. She uses the word you several times during the
commercial, which makes the audience feel a very personnel connection to the animals portrayed

contained classroom. I really like his being able to mix with children who are not in the special
education program this year. Can you please explain the advantages and disadvantages of putting him
in a self contained classroom? Mom A: A self contained classroom is the instructional setting for
special education students who have substantial disabilities and for whom placement in a less
restrictive setting (the regular classroom) has not been appropriate. Some of the advantages for your
son of being in a self contained classroom next year are: 1. The classroom will be structured to
minimize distraction and increase individual attention. 2. Your son will get to know one teacher and
will not have to relate to other teachers and move to several different classrooms. 3. His academic
skills might improve because he will be in small groups or even be offered the opportunity for
individual instruction. The disadvantages of self contained classrooms are: 1.

A Brief Note On Sweden And Norway And Sweden Essay
CDP Paper Sweden, Introduction
History:
Sweden has been a land populated for thousands of years, by early humans who left remnants of their
civilization through simple tools and cave drawings. Sweden was originally a set of provinces that,
around 1000 AD, were absorbed into a single unit, with their government system being that of an
absolute monarchy. However, by 1389, Sweden, along with Norway and Denmark, was placed under
the rule of Danish Queen Margareta, creating the Kalmar Union. The Kalmar union fell apart due to
internal conflicts, and Sweden became independent in 1523 ( History of Sweden | Official site of
Sweden , 2015). Soon after, the Swedish royalty nationalized churches and took its estate. This set the
bedrock for the Swedish state, concentrating wealth and power in the hands of royals, and had
economic and social consequences for years to come. In 1718, however, the Swedish royalty lost
much of its power, with the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) choosing to take power away from the king
and put it with Parliament( History of Sweden | Official site of Sweden , 2015). Late 19th century
Sweden was affected by popular movement, such as those to free churches and encourage women
rights. Current day Sweden is a parliamentary government, with its constitution stating that power
comes from the people, and the monarch being a head of state in name only.
Geography:
Sweden is a nation in Northern Europe, with an area of 450,000 km^2. It s slightly larger than

Ultrasound
For our project we researched ultrasound which is also commonly known as a Sonogram. The
definition of ultrasound is energy that is generated by sound waves of 20,000 or greater vibrations per
second. Ultrasound is used in many different arrays. It is most often used in the medical field.
Ultrasound uses sound waves that are too high to be heard by the human ear. A part of the ultrasound
machine called the transducer is placed on the body part and sound waves are emitted from the
transducer and reflected back from organs and tissues. When the wave is sent back to the transducer it
puts it into the computer which then measures the length of time it took for the wave to leave and

Essay on The Comparison of Sigmund Freud and B.F. Skinner
The Comparison of Sigmund Freud and B.F. Skinner One name that jumps out at the mention of
psychology, or the study there of, is the name of Sigmund Freud. Sigmund Freud is also known as the
Father of Psychoanalysis. Freud was also known for having the tendency to trace nearly all
psychological problems back to sexual issues. Although only parts of his theory of psychosexual
development are still accepted by mainstream psychologists, Freud s theory of the Oedipal Complex
has become a cultural icon (Freud, Sigmund, 2012). Freud is known for developing the use of

reinforcement, either positive or negative, and which these reinforcements are given after the desired
response (About B.F. Skinner, Sept, 2012). Skinner identified three types of responses or operant that
can follow behavior. While behaviorism is no longer a dominant school of thought, the work in
operant conditioning remains today. Many different types of professionals utilize operant conditioning

  • 2. Summary Of The American Dream In Mcteague The Genes Run in the Family In the nineteenth century, America was a place of immigration and new ideas. Many immigrants came to the United States in pursuit of the American dream, the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity (Dictionary.com), but attaining this goal was not as easy as it may sound. Some were born into the American dream while others who were born into the lower class had to try and work towards the dream but oftentimes failed. In the novel McTeague, Frank Norris depicts how the force of heredity affects an individual s success with the American dream through McTeague, Maria, and Zerkow. All three of these characters are given parents and ancestries that are the main cause of their downfalls. Norris demonstrates how in the end, one s own success is determined by that of their parents as he supplies McTeague with several opportunities throughout the novel to change his fortune, but it is his parents fault that he is not able to succeed. McTeagues father is described as steady, hard working while at work, yet when at home he is a brute, crazy with alcohol (Norris 2). This alcoholism dug his father deep into a hole and he eventually died from it, never amounting to anything more than a shift boss at the mine. McTeague follows this path of his father when he too becomes a drunken brute and his stupidity, the sluggishness of his brain, seemed to be unusually stimulated (Norris 234) by the alcohol. McTeague s alcoholism leads him to beating Trina and eventually killing her for the money. His father did not beat and kill McTeague s mother because she had no money that she was keeping from him, but McTeague inevitably fell into his father s drunken footsteps and was pushed even further by Trina s actions towards his death. One of McTeague s opportunities for success arises after he kills Trina and leaves with all of the money, but his inherited stupidity managed to reap no benefit from the opportunity. He was forced to leave the area and flee from law enforcement officers, so he travelled to various mines, once again a miner like his father was. His father being a miner and McTeague s imbecility work in harmony to conclude that it was inevitable McTeague would further follow his father s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Rights Of The United Kingdom Although the restraints around contraception were loosening, the Irish State remained firm in their belief on abortions. A referendum on the 8th Amendment of the Constitution Act, 1983 was elected by Irish citizens. The article was amended to read: The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to live of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right. While the United Kingdom passed the Abortion Act 1967 that allowed women to legally terminate a pregnancy under certain circumstances, Irishwomen remained under the jurisdiction of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. The Attorney General discovered the Irish teen s situation and sought an injunction under Article 40.3.3 for the right to life of the unborn , delaying the procedure; the girl then threatened to commit suicide if she was not permitted an abortion. The attorney general was not justified in extending the law of abortion to other states where the services were legal since the law of Ireland did not extend to other countries. The preference for the life of the unborn child over the mother was evident in the court case. However, the circumstance for the loss of both lives called for immediate action in order to preserve any life. The teenage girl was allowed an abortion under Article 40.3.3 claiming due regard to the equal right to life of the mother . As a result of this court case, the 13th and 14th Amendments of the Constitution were made to Article 40.3.3 to legalize information on abortive services abroad and for the freedom to travel outside of Ireland for an abortion. The Regulation of Information (Services outside the State for Termination of Pregnancies) Act, 1995 further outlined the 13th and 14th Amendments by requiring the patient to make the appointment for abortion abroad, mandatory pregnancy counseling, and for the information on abortion services to be provided along with information on parenting and adoption. In other words it is an emotional response that has been classically conditioned to occur to learned stimuli. Watson and Rayner created this for the first time with little Albert when he was about eight months and twenty six days. They struck a hammer against a suspended steel bar and at the third time was when little Albert reacted and began to cry. The next time they tested a conditioned emotional response was when little Albert was at the age of eleven months. They created this conditioned emotional response by starting off the experiment with a white rat. At the beginning little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Symptoms And Treatment Of Skin When asked about their major illnesses, the client stated to have hypertension, severe dyspnea, and edema. The client also stated that she suffered from a heart attack in the past, which was due to high blood pressure. Many of the client s problems branched off from the heart attack and hypertension. For example, a heart attack and high blood pressure can cause heart failure, heart failure can cause pulmonary edema, and pulmonary edema can lead to swelling of the lower extremities and dyspnea (Grossman Porth, 2014). However, the most recent hospitalization for the client was due to severe edema, and trouble breathing. Severe edema is one of the major causes for impaired skin integrity. Skin integrity is defined as the state in which an individual s skin is at risk of being adversely altered (kloop, Storey, Bronstein, 2012). There are three major factors that can relate to client s skin alteration: decreased tissue perfusion, prolonged bed rest, and pulmonary edema. One factor that can cause impaired skin integrity is decreased tissue perfusion. Decreased tissue perfusion refers to decrease in oxygen resulting in failure to nourish tissues at the capillary level (Wilson, 2012). Reduced tissue perfusion causes the body to become distressed because it is not receiving enough oxygen. This causes the blood to shunt to the core of the body where the vital organs are located, such as the heart and the brain (Grossman Porth, 2014). Since the client suffered from ... • 7. An Article On Faith By The Church Of The Nazarene Understanding whom God is one of the hardest tasks to wrap our minds around because of how majesty God is and we will never be able to fully understand everything about God. However, God does allow his Word to tell us more about Him and more importantly the love we he has for us all. To understand how important who God is all one has to do is look at the articles of faith from the Church of the Nazarene. The very first article of faith explains the beliefs of the Triune God. Article 1 states, We believe in one eternally existent, infinite God, Sovereign Creator and Sustainer of the universe; that He only is God, holy in nature, attributes, and purpose. The God who is holy love and light is Triune in essential being, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Manual). I believe in the first article of faith by the Church of the Nazarene, and including in the article of faith we see some attributes of God, which I feel is important to go into more detail so we can have a better understand of God. Dunning explains the essential nature of God is holy love and how we must take into account of the way the holiness of God informs the attempt to ascribe the attributes to God (Dunning 192). Its important to understands holiness is simply a background for all of God s attributes. It is not a primary attribute of God and to recognize that holiness means separateness. • 8. Review Of Christopher Nolan s The Dark Knight Jalen Mathis Professor Drummond English 1101 4 December 16 Prompt #3 Scene analysis I chose to analyze The Dark Knight (2008) directed by Christopher Nolan. My scene begins at 00:01:13 and ends at 00:05:54. I chose to analyze this scene because it contains interesting points that I have recognized, as the villain shows different characteristics, using aspects such as camera angles. In this analysis, I will be looking at the setting, lighting, sound and the use of the camera and how each of these views influences the audience. The setting within this sequence takes place downtown Gotham city in a building, from ziplining, on the street, to the van, outside of the building, and last inside of the bank. The scene starts, the camera zooms up onto a building. The window is then broken and the camera switches showing a masked man shooting a zip line across from the building to another building. The clowned mask is being used to hide their faces which is iconic and is an example you would expect to see in a heist film. The sound in the back ground is a fast hard tempo beat which gives the audience the impression that this is a heist film. The next shot shows a man standing at the corner of the street holding a clown mask in his hand and a bag. The camera slowly zooms up to the mask leading the audience to believe that they may see the identity of the person holding it. This man is unlike the others characters he is not wearing his mask and this builds pressure, but this up tempo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Call Of The Wild Fittest Analysis Some people and animals just weren t fit for the Klondike. In the adventure story The Call of the Wild by Jack London, there is a dog named Buck that goes from domesticated in Santa Clara Valley, California to the Klondike during the Yukon gold rush. Buck quickly learns the ways of the North land like the Law of Club and Fang. Not all the dogs and people that Buck traveled with were fit for the Klondike. In the The Call of the Wild the theme of survival of the fittest shines through from the dogs to the people. One of the first ways the theme of survival of the fittest is shown is when one of the dogs on Bucks sled dog team named Curly was attacked by other dogs and killed. On the sled dog s journey they stop to sleep and rest, but one of the times that they stopped they got something they didn t expect. One of the dogs named Curly was really friendly and went over to see the other dogs that weren t on her sled dog s team. Curly then got attacked by dogs that she had never met. But she lay there limp and lifeless in the bloody, trampled snow, almost literally torn to pieces, the Swart half breed standing over her and cursing horribly (London 17). This proves that survival of the fittest was in The Call of the Wild because some dogs just weren t fit for the Klondike. Like Curly and many other dogs and some people were just not fit for the Yukon. Some dogs and people just didn t have the characteristics to survive in the Yukon, some changed their characteristics like Buck did and some like Curly thought that all the dogs were nice like she had known before. Another reason to show survival of the fittest is in The Call of the Wild is when one of the other dogs on the sled team named Dolly got rabbis by starving huskies that tried to raid their camp for food. When the starving huskies tried to raid Buck s sled teams camp for their food they ended up giving Dolly rabies. Once Dolly got the rabbis she started to chase Buck but when they got back around by where the sled dog owners then took an ax to Dolly s head. The dog driver held the ax poised in his hand, and as Buck shot past him the ax crashed down upon mad Dolly s head (London 34). This shows that during this scene, Dolly was not ... • 14. Taking a Look at Eurasian Milfoil Invasive species are organisms that harm a new environment that they are not native to. Many invasive species like Eurasian milfoil are easily able to reproduce and can do so fast. Due to this, the limited space in a body of water or area of land is quickly taken over by the invasive species so other native plants face the risk of death or even extinction. Overall, these invasive species can do great harm to an ecosystem or an economy, causing problems that are destructive to numerous organisms. Eurasian milfoil or Myriophyllum spicatum is an aquatic invasive plant that can be found throughout the Chicagoland area and in surrounding bodies of water. This plant can be a hinderance to swimming, boating, and fishing because of their thick, tangled stems and mats of vegetation. According to the Minnesota Sea Grant, Eurasian milfoil also overcrowd a body of water which leaves little room for the plants native to the Great Lakes. One prediction is that if the Eurasian milfoil is not stopped, a reduction of biodiversity may result in Chicago and the areas surrounding it. If this was to occur, the ecosystems of the Midwest region would be significantly impacted in a negative way. As reported by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), Eurasian milfoil, which is native to Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa, was most likely accidentally introduced to the United States through ballast water, which is water from other places that is dumped into another body of water to aid in ... The Effect of Salt Concentration on Osmosis in Potato Part A: Title: Diffusion Diffusion is the spontaneous movement of particles from where they are more concentrated to where they are less concentrated. For this experiment, a 14 cm glass was filled with cold tap water. A drop of red food coloring was dropped in the cup. A stopwatch was used to measure the time it took for the food coloring to get to the bottom of the cup. The average diffusion rate was .78 cm a second. If a different color was used, I do not think it would have made a difference in the results. The mood of the person experimenting could possibly alter the results. For example, if a person is under stress, they may accidentally squeeze too much altering the rate of diffusion. If the water was warmer, this may have sped the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You should consider each of the four solutions and explain what happened using the terms hypertonic hypotonic and isotonic. In osmosis, the flow of the water from or to a cell depends on whether the cell is immersed in a solution that is isotonic, hypotonic, or hypertonic to the solution. If the cell is isotonic to a solution, this means that the solute concentration of a cell and its environment is the same and therefore there will be no movement of water. If the solute concentration is lower than that of the cell, then water will flow into the cell, causing it to expand. If the solute concentration is lower than that of the cell then water will flow out of the cell, causing it to shrink. 2. Were your hypotheses right or wrong? The endocardium is very smooth and is responsible for keeping blood from sticking to the inside of the heart and forming potentially deadly blood clots. Chambers of the Heart The heart contains 4 chambers: the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, and left ventricle. The atria are smaller than the ventricles and have thinner, less muscular walls than the ventricles. The atria act as receiving chambers for blood, so they are connected to the veins that carry blood to the heart. The ventricles are the larger, stronger pumping chambers that send blood out of the heart. The ventricles are connected to the arteries that carry blood away from the heart. The chambers on the right side of the heart are smaller and have less myocardium in their heart wall when compared to the left side of the heart. MERS infections are due to an individual being infected by a coronavirus (CoV), more specifically the MERS CoV. Corona virus symptoms are typically acute, upper and lower respiratory infections (Tyrell Myint 1996). MERS like all corona viruses, are spherical or pleomorphic enveloped which contain a single stranded positive sense RNA (Tyrell Myint 1996). Furthermore, peak infections appear to occur seasonally, peaking between April and June each year (Sharif Yakan Kanj 2014).). A coincidence of the seasonality of the diseases is that it is parallel with camel birthing seasons, where younger camels are infected easier than older ones (Sharif Yakan Kanj 2014).). One of my great difficulties with Kant s moral philosophy is that it suggests that our moral obligations leave us helpless when dealing with evil. Kant s theory sets a high ideal of conduct and tells us to live up to that ideal regardless of what other persons are doing. Imagine you are a character in a Shakespearean play and are watching your father getting murdered. He is the King and you aspire that one day you will take his place (Even though you know it won t happen, because you re a woman). Your brother takes the initiate to kill him and take his place. Kant s idea seems to be that we treat someone as an end only insofar as we act toward him or her in a way that he or she can understand as appropriate or justified: we should be able to explain our reasons in such a way that the person will see the reasonableness of acting in the way we propose. Thus, for example, Kant writes: he who is thinking of making a lying promise to others will see at once that he would be using another human being merely as a means, without the latter at the same time containing in himself the end. For he whom I propose by such a promise to use for my own purposes cannot possibly assent to my mode of acting toward him, and therefore cannot himself contain the end of this action. What is ruled out by this idea appears to be actions which treat others in such a way that they do not have the opportunity to consent to what we are doing. So we treat others as mere means when we force them to do something, or when we obtain their consent through pressure or dishonesty. That s something I think is special about being human having a normative self conception, wanting, to respect yourself, thinking of yourself as worthy or unworthy, rating yourself, especially now with media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even online dating sites. As a tale reflecting the noble deeds of a hero, it uniquely expresses the cultural values of the Anglo Saxons from whom it originated since heroes often do reflect the best of what their culture deems worthwhile. However, modern adaptations of this work express a different set of cultural values; values unique to modern society. When comparing the translated poem, Beowulf, to the 2005 motion picture, Beowulf and Grendel, it is obvious to see that our morals and ideas are reflected on this ancient poem. The movie, Beowulf and Grendel, and the epic, Beowulf, are prime examples of the radical cultural differences that have evolved over time. In Beowulf, the epic, we see very simplistic characters. Beowulf, for example, is simply a hero who kills monsters. That is all he has ever wanted in his life and that is all that defines him. In the motion picture, we see Beowulf as a man that has risen from his unique childhood and has made a name for himself. We see Beowulf as a flawed human being; not as a muscle head hero who is never defeated. This humanizes Beowulf and makes him a more appealing character that people can identify with. Human physiology is adapted to living in the Earth s atmosphere and a certain amount of oxygen to breathe. The primary challenge faced by astronauts is the lack of oxygen and pressure in space. The minimum partial pressure of oxygen that can be tolerated is 16 kPa (atmospheric pressure is 100 kPa), below which the astronaut is in danger of dying from hypoxia, a medical condition in which the body or a region of the body is deprived of adequate oxygen supply (Harding 27). In the vacuum of space, gas exchange in the lungs continues as normal but results in the removal of all gases from the bloodstream. Furthermore, blood and other body fluids boil at the pressure below 6.3 kPa, resulting in the formation of gas bubbles in body fluids, a condition called ebullism (29). However, most spacesuits provide sufficient oxygen pressure to sustain full consciousness. Another crisis that astronauts face in space is the rapid compression (sudden drop in pressure of a sealed system). The risk of fatal rupture of the delicate alveoli of the lungs is low, however, rupture of eardrums and sinuses; shock caused accelerated oxygen consumption lead to barotrauma and hypoxia (29). • 46. A Brief Note On Sweden And Norway And Sweden Essay CDP Paper Sweden, Introduction History: Sweden has been a land populated for thousands of years, by early humans who left remnants of their civilization through simple tools and cave drawings. Sweden was originally a set of provinces that, around 1000 AD, were absorbed into a single unit, with their government system being that of an absolute monarchy. However, by 1389, Sweden, along with Norway and Denmark, was placed under the rule of Danish Queen Margareta, creating the Kalmar Union. The Kalmar union fell apart due to internal conflicts, and Sweden became independent in 1523 ( History of Sweden | Official site of Sweden , 2015). Soon after, the Swedish royalty nationalized churches and took its estate. This set the bedrock for the Swedish state, concentrating wealth and power in the hands of royals, and had economic and social consequences for years to come. In 1718, however, the Swedish royalty lost much of its power, with the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) choosing to take power away from the king and put it with Parliament( History of Sweden | Official site of Sweden , 2015). Late 19th century Sweden was affected by popular movement, such as those to free churches and encourage women rights. Current day Sweden is a parliamentary government, with its constitution stating that power comes from the people, and the monarch being a head of state in name only.
