Ghost Army In Ww2 Essay
In World War Two countries relied on clandestine operations to win the war. Many different tactics
were used. Tactics included infiltration of the other sides borders, creating fake armies, code
breaking and utilizing secret agencies. Clandestine operations during world war two proved
integral to the war as a whole. The Office of Strategic Services was the American intelligence
agency during World War Two and its activities helped the allied cause. One of the Office of
Strategic Services major missions was penetrating Nazi Germany. The OSS was able to train some
of the German people to enact missions inside Germany. This allowed the US to destroy Germany
from the inside. The OSS was also involved in turning Turkey into a neutral country.... Show more

The ghost army was mainly composed of artists. The ways they fooled the enemy include using
fake artillery, planting soldiers in nearby towns to fool spies, creating fake radio broadcasts and
many other things. The Ghost Army relied heavily on inflatables to create the illusion of an
army. They had inflatable tanks, artillery and even inflatable soldiers. The ghost army s sonic
division created sounds that a real army division would make. Sounds included the movement of
tanks, building a bridge and the sound of gunfire. Since the Germans received a lot of their
intelligence from radio broadcasts, the radio division of the Ghost Army created fake radio
broadcasts to fool the Germans and to further add to the illusion that the was an actual army
division stationed where they were. One major mission that the ghost army was involved in was
Operation Bettembourg where there was a 70 mile hole between divisions of the army. The army
knew if the Germans knew the hole was there they would try to attack through the gap. The Ghost
army was sent in to fill the hole and they were able to fool the enemy with the illusion of 30,000
soldiers when there were only

In this case, the learning curve is a horizontal line and there is no learning.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO MODELS
Over the first few units, an operation following the cumulative average curve will experience a
much greater reduction in cost (hours or dollars) than an operation following a unit curve with the
same slope. The unit curve should be used in situations where the firm is fully prepared for
production; and the cumulative average curve should be used in situations where the firm is not
completely ready for production. Most firms in the airframe industry use the cumulative average
curve. Most firms in other industries use the unit curve.

Real Courage Research Paper
Courage is a highly debated topic in modern day society. Phrases such as, Was that really
courage? or I could have done that, prevent us from seeing true courage. Courage is not always a
heroic win of a battle, or even the fight against terrible diseases. Courage is the willingness to
stand up for what is right, and to get back up, even when things go wrong. Courage is, and always
will be, one of the great gifts of the Holy Spirit, and can be shown be ordinary people in their
everyday lives. Some people are chosen to be saints because of their great courage. While many
see Saint Francis of Assisi as a sweet guy who walked around singing, and smelling the roses, they
are wrong. When he was young he went to war eagerly, and later in his life he endured
imprisonment and illness.
Saint Maximilian Kolbe lived in Poland during WWII. He was sent to a death camp by the Nazis.
When ten men in his cell were chosen to be executed, Maximilian offered to take the place of a
man who had a wife and two children. The Nazis were more than happy to oblige. Mother Teresa
Calcutta lived in a time of famine for her country. She left her convent and decided to create a
religious community of her own. She helped as many people as much as she could, with no regard
for her own health. She even helped people with terrible diseases, like ... Show more content on

In my life, my mother shows great courage. As a labor and delivery nurse, she impacts one of the
biggest moments in a person s life. Depending on some of her choices, the procedure can go
smoothly or awfully wrong. She trusts that God will help her make the right decisions, and that He
will help everyone be safe. I know when someone has courage if they do something for a good

Antwone Fisher
Antwone Fisher
The focus of this paper is on psychodynamic (intergenerational and psychoanalytic) family
therapies; and how these concepts apply to helping the protagonist in the major motion picture
Antwone Fisher overcome traumatic incidents he experienced during his childhood and adolescent
years, as well as help him to manage his current anger issues. Psychodynamics, in its broadest sense,
is an approach to the study of human behavior that emphasizes the study and use of the
psychological forces that underlie human behavior, feelings and emotions; how they relate to early
childhood experiences . . . (Sher Sher, 2015). Intergenerational and psychoanalytic family therapies
can be described as an approach to the study of how a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Internalized objects affect inner experience and outer relationships
In addition, Kerr (2000) points out that a core assumption is that an emotional system that evolved
over several billion years governs human relationship systems.
Thus, intergenerational and psychoanalytic family therapies share several key concepts and
practices: examining a client s early relationships to understand present functioning; tracing
transgenerational and extended family dynamics to understand a client s complaints; promoting
insight into extended family dynamics to facilitate change; and identifying and altering destructive

My Time At Plateau Asset Management
Lessons Learned/ Anomalies: Although many analyst internship positions are individually focused,
I found my time at Plateau Asset Management to be more team focused. Therefore, I learned many
lessons regarding team work and communication. Speaking Fast: In the initial Friday group
meetings I found myself never allowing the other analysts to digest the material that I was explain.
Musa pointed this out to me half way through the internship and told me slow down and ask
questions to make sure your listeners understand what you are explaining. This became important
when I began to mentor new inters because it was necessary that they retained the information that
I was explaining during our time together. Listening: Musa believed that I was a good listening,
however that I could improve. Musa stated, Always listen to respond , when listening to respond
you absorb what the speaker is saying before responding. Working as a Minority: The fact that I
was a minority in the team of 5 analysts did not come to my attention until the end of my internship
period. Musa and I found this strange because a vast majority of the financial industry is Caucasian
males, however even though this internship is in financial industry I was the only white Caucasian
male intern; we furthered our study and found out that I was the only white Caucasian male to even
apply for the position. We thought maybe this was because the internship was virtual. Section 3.

Professional Athletes Paid
Have you ever thought that a professional athlete gets paid too much money? Professional
athletes pay is important because there are other jobs that have a bigger impact on the economy
than these athletes. When compared to salary for soldiers or teachers, professional athletes are
overpaid in spite of the fact that they can negatively influence our youth. The first problem is that
the youth look up to these athletes and they like to mock their behaviors. Today in our economy,
professional athletes have a huge impact on our youth. The actions that are performed by these
players are closely examined by young kids across the world (Foothill.) Kids love the fact that just
playing sports they can make millions of dollars. A kid always has the idea,... Show more content on

On average an athlete makes five million dollars a year (Crite.) That s a lot of money, but what
do they for that money that benefits the community? Teachers on average are only making fifty
five thousand dollars a year (Education.) Teachers and professional athletes are paid in different
ways. A teachers is paid by tax money collected from taxpayers (KeithLee.) Which this is
understandable since they are teaching our youth. An athlete are paid by contracts from sponsors
(KeithLee.) There isn t any reason why teachers should be getting less money than professional
athletes. The country is paying teachers just enough just to keep them around (National.) Which
that seems like they think teachers are unworthy of a higher salary. When compared to salary for
soldiers or teachers, professional athletes are overpaid in spite of the fact that they can negatively
influence our youth. So, professional athletes get paid too much. For the little they do for the
economy and as much as what soldiers and teachers do, they deserve a higher salary. The youth
also is not benefited by them, but they are benefited from these soldiers and teachers. If we don t
realize the issue about these athlete s pay, our economy will slowly start to become more
uneducated and underpaid and will not have a problem with

The Canada s Food Guide Essay
The Canada s Food Guide has been in place since 1942, and nearly a decade has passed since the
release of the current Eating Well with Canada s Food Guide (EWCFG) (Mortillaro, 2016).
Critics believe that the time has come for the revision of the second most downloaded document
in Canada in the interest of reflecting the changing lifestyles of Canadians (Mortillaro, 2016). At
the time of its launch during World War II, male female roles differed vastly, with stay at home
moms preparing home cooked meals. However, according to latest information provided by
Statistics Canada, 69% of households with families are dual earners today (Statistics Canada,
2015). The effect of dual earning has taken its toll on Canadian food consumption patterns
(Mortillaro, 2016). Consequently, the existing food guide has received mixed reviews and
immense criticism by several researchers, and has even been declared obesogenic (Corby, 2007;
Kondro, 2006; L Abbe Mahsa, 2015). This is particularly disturbing because according to the 2004
Canadian Community Health Survey, 59% of the adult population is overweight and 1 in 4 is
obese; the numbers are even more alarming regarding children and adolescents (Karmali et al.,
2010). The cause of the obesity epidemic might be right at our fingertips with the Unhealthy Food
Guide that is imposed on Canadians. One strict change that must occur to the food guide includes
disassociating 100% fruit juices as vegetableand fruit sources, and thereby removing

from Churchill Square to NAIT linking MacEwan University, the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the
new arena and Kingsway Mall to the main LRT system. It was expected to add 13,200 weekday
riders to the city s LRT network. The objective of this project is to get the line open, subject to it
being safe, as described by city manager Simon Farbrother in an interview in Edmonton Journal.
The construction and designing of this extended Meto Line were predicted to cost (baseline cost)
of $755 million. This cost estimation includes the purchasing property and new LRVs. Sponsors of
the NAIT LRT project were the Government of Alberta, the Government of Canada and City of

The Writings Of Karl Marx

Final Paper: Question #9 The writings of Karl Marx, Max Weber, and Emile Durkheim each set
out to discuss how an individual is connected to their social standing within society. Along with
how social classes form their beginnings. Each of their theories are complex and require thorough
analysis in order to fully understand their point of view. How social class is obtained in the United
States is the question being posed. I will discuss which theory I personally think is best and
most applicable to our modern society. I will thoroughly compare and contrast the works of
Marx, Weber, and Durkheim; along with pointing out strengths and weaknesses in all three. It is
first important to understand the meaning of social class. Sociologically speaking, the term
social class is a way to divide individuals based upon their economic and social standing within
the larger system of economic production. In the United States, the five most common social
classes include: upper class elite, upper middle class, lower middle class, working class, and poor.
It is assumed that the more money one has, the higher their class status will be however there is
always the possibility for outliers. Social class controls several aspects of our lives and is an
extremely important factor when determining potential opportunities. Karl Marx is a sociological
theorist who had great influence over how we currently look at social class. According to Marx,

Similarities Between Chicken And Chicken Skeletons
Belonging to different animal classes, the skeletons of humans and chickens have similarities
alongside expected differences. Analyzing a chicken skeleton led to the discovery that while there
are certainly visible differences between the bodies, both skeletons have a myriad of bones in
common. For example, the bones that both the chicken and human skeletonhave in common include:
the mandible, the clavicle, the sternum, the scapula, the humerus, and the patella. However, despite
the common bones, the chicken skeleton contains bones that humans do not have such as the
pygostyle, furcula, and sclerotic ring, while as humans have bones that chickens do not share such
as the hyoid, calcaneus, and stapes.
Despite being different species, the chicken and human skeletons have numerous bones in common.
A few of the several shared bones includes: the mandible, the clavicle, the sternum, the scapula, the
humerus, and the patella. The mandible, located in the lower part of the skull in humans, functions
to move the lower jaw which allows the mouth to open and close. Used in conjunction with
muscles, the mandible allows humans to not only speak but also consume food and drinks
(Healthline). In a chicken, the mandible forms the bottom of the beak which allows for the
consumption of foods and liquids as well as killing prey, fighting predators or other chickens, and
feeding chicks. Alongside the mandible, chickens and humans both have the clavicle bones. In
humans, the clavicle (collar

How Does Frankenstein Reflect The Values Of Humanity
Shelley s Romantic novel Frankenstein (1818) compares and reflects values of humanity and the
consequences of our Promethean ambition against the futuristic, industrialized world of Blade
Runner (1992) by Ridley Scott. The notions of unbridled scientific advancement and technological
progress resonate with our desire to elevate humanity s state of being, mirrored amongst the
destructive ambition to overtake and disrupt natureand its processes. The disastrous implications of
overreaching the boundary between progressive and destructive power and knowledge are heeded
through the ultimate and inevitable loss of self and identity, transforming humanity into a form of
monstrosity.

The ultimate consequences of Promethean ambition are characterized through Victor and Walton,
who parallels Victor, yet is able to turn from the intoxicating draught of superiority and unbridled
ambition. This juxtaposition of character reinforces the significance of moral responsibility, as
Shelley ultimately mocks the hateful bond between Frankenstein and his child, the Monster. The
harsh consequences of disrupting nature and forfeiting moral conscience are conveyed, connoting
the inevitable demise due to loss of self and identity.
Contrastingly, the modern, technologically driven world of Blade Runner conveys man s usurption
of nature caused through his arrogance and desire for dominance. In this contrastingly
industrialized, scientifically grounded world, nature has been relentlessly exploited and
commodified, as man has attempted to penetrate into the recesses . The allusion to the Promethean
myth through the symbolic use of fire is seen in the opening scenes of shooting fire, intercut with
close up shots of an eye, symbolically representing fire as having the potential to both nurture and
destroy life. The ignorance and metaphorical blindness of man, is highlighted through the self
imposed destruction of humanity, as nature is obliterated in favour of commerce (being our) goal ,
symbolically representing the destruction of our natural

The Current Generation Of Native Americans
The current generation of Native Americans does not deserve reparations for what happened to
their ancestor because it is unreasonable to say that the current generations of Native Americans are
disadvantaged due to the large revenues they generate from gambling. In the United States today,
Native American gaming comprises casinos, bingo halls, and other gamblingoperations on India
reservations or other tribal land. These areas are all have tribal sovereignty, which means that states
have limited ability to forbid gaming there because of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988.

Per capita payments are the cash that the tribe distributes each year from its casino profits,
which have grown as gaming revenues have risen and can range from as little as a few hundred
dollars a year to more than $100,000. These payments have been shown to have negative affects
and could be done in a more positive and effective way. In the study done by the American Indian
Law Journal, of the 17 tribes studies that handed casino profits directly to its members, 10 saw
their poverty rates rise, and of the 7 tribes that did note, only two saw such an increase. One tribe
in northern Washington has eliminated poverty completely, and that tribe does not issue any per
capita payments and has used its casino profits to diversify into other businesses. With growing
tribal gaming revenues, poverty can become worse through the way casino profits are sometimes
distributed through its per capita payments. These payments can be seen as a form of reparations,
but they show the negative affects they have on the Native Americans by allowing some of them
to be comfortable with living in poverty because of they payments they know they are going to
receive from the casinos due to their large profits and the way casinos distribute them. There are
many reasons to link financial problems and crime to the large revenues of gambling. Financial
losses are one of the extreme threats and costs to the gambler. This is because

Essay On Hate Crimes
The Stakeholders The Hate Crime Opponents The societal problem of hate crimes has many
stakeholders not only opposing hate crimes but also supporting them. Of the many stakeholders
opposing hate crimes, specifically those relating to a race bias, Black Lives Matter is the most
prominent one in the media. Black Lives Matter, which was founded on July 13, 2013, is an
activist community that strives to end the world of anti Blackness, where every Black person has
the social, economic, and political power to thrive (What We Believe). The Black Lives Matter
movement has recently been geared toward police brutality. Black Lives Matter believes that
police intentionally treat blacks differently and see them more as a threat than other races. They
believe that the police inflict violent behavior on blacks because of their skin color. The Black
Lives Matter website says, We are guided by the fact that all Black lives matter, regardless of actual
or perceived sexual identity, gender identity, gender expression, economic status, ability, disability,
religious beliefs or disbeliefs, immigration status, or location (What We Believe). A prominent
stakeholder that opposes hate crimes relating to a religion bias is Alliance Defending Freedom.
Alliance Defending Freedom is a Christian organization that fights to defend the religious freedoms
guaranteed by the United States Constitution. Dr. Bill Bright, an American evangelist, founded the

How Does T. S. Eliot s Influence On Society
Literature possesses the capability to vastly influence the world, and those who find a way to
impact literature drive the powerful influence. Few people in the history of literature publicized as
many thoughts and critical views as T.S. Eliot, and by disseminating his opinions throughout the
literature world, Eliot found a way to communicate new perspectives and tastes in literature
(Worthen). Born in the fall of 1888, T.S. Eliot grew up to become one of the most influential poets
of all time, as he found a unique way of communicating through literature. Sometimes referred to as
the keeper of the language or the model poet of our time Eliot presented powerful criticisms of
society, while brilliantly presenting his ideas through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beyond the poetry he wrote, Eliot drove the world to modernist views through essays and other
means of literature. Containing stories, news, and opinions of both T.S. Eliot and others who
wrote about him, The Letters of T.S. Eliot offer an inside perspective on Eliot s life (Eliot and
Haffenden). In Volume 1 of the revised edition of the letters Patrick Query describes how T.S.
Eliot felt so much passion for culture and how it must improve (Letters, Volume 1). In the
volume, the writer states Eliot started a movement to modernize literature all on his own. Eliot
contained such a strong passion for making the world a better place, that as society generally
acted apathetically towards life, Eliot strived for a culture where people actually inserted energy
and passion into life (Poetry Foundation). Also, in John Worthen s biography of T.S. Eliot, the
author believes Eliot focused the entire masterpiece of Four Quartets on illustrating to his
audience despite painful times in life, people must focus more on the beauty of life (Worthen).
After addressing the aspects of society he believed needed to improve, Eliot wrote several poems
on each topic which showed the beauty of his opinion and a more joyful culture. The Waste Land
helps describe how to improve the war stricken world, and other poems such as Four Quartets and
The Sacred Wood deal with other cultural characteristics Eliot strived to improve. Devoting much of

more honest as well. I also allowed for the respondents to choose whether they have majority or
minority status. I had nine responses, three identifying as minoritystatus, five as majority status, and
one student who was not sure, since he/she/they fell into multiple target groups but reported that
she didn t experience any discrimination. There were some interesting discrepancies, since one
female student reported that she was a minority, and another reportedly felt she was in the majority.
At RIT, the distribution of gender differs by program, so this could be a reason why this
discrepancy exists. None of the students who identified themselves as having majority status
reported experiencing any discrimination themselves, and neither did the one female student who
identified as a minority but fell into no other target groups. One respondent, a self identified
conservative, Catholic white male chose to identify as a minority group. I thought this made sense
since college campuses tend to be liberal, so conservatives are sometimes considered to be
minorities. I thought about adding a checkbox for ideological minorities to my target group list
when I first made my survey, but I was concerned that anyone might have a reason to check that
box, since everyone s ideologies vary to some

Comparing Milner And Goodale s Theory Of D. F.
The existence of two visual systems was first suggested by Schneider (1969), and later confirmed
by Ungerleider and Mishkin (1982) who claimed pathways that transmit information from the
primary visual cortex are components of two main streams: dorsal and ventral. From experiments
on monkeys, they established their what versus where theory, which states that the dorsal stream is
responsible for object localisation and the ventral stream is responsible for object identification.
Their theory was only popular until the 1990s, when other researchers began to suggest it may be
inadequate. Amongst those was Milner and Goodale (1995) who offered an alternative approach.
They agreed that the ventral stream creates conscious representations of the... Show more content on

A patient named D.F. suffered from this, and provided a great amount of support for Milner and
Goodale s theory. Although her low level visual functions such as target detection and colour
discrimination were normal, her ability to recognize familiar faces and common objects was
impaired. Yet when shown real objects rather than drawings, D.F. could recognize them.
However, upon further examination of this ability it was found that D.F. was using surface
properties such as colour, rather than the outline of the shape to identify the object (Humphrey et
al 1994). What confirmed Milner and Goodale s theory was that D.F. could grasp objects that she
could not entirely perceive. Initial experiments by Milner et al (1991) highlighted this. In these
D.F. was given a disc and had to perform either a perceptual orientation matching task or a
visuomotor task. It was found that although she could not explain the orientation of the slot, her
performance on the visuomotor task where she had to post the disc into the slot was typical.
Milner and Goodale (1995) argued this was because D.F s ventral stream was severely impaired,
and the visuomotor skills she still had were due to an intact dorsal stream. This dissociation found
between perception and action only increased the idea that the ventral and dorsal stream are
independently working

Prioritizing roofing system candidates
If you have the responsibility to plan and select an inventory of roofing areas to receive roof
coatings, the timing and priority of the installation is an important step. First you need
information, to make better informed decisions to identify the best roof section candidates and
avoid an installation window that could lower the coating service life or substantially increase the
roof system preparation. All buildings age and deteriorate. Its also common to have deferred
maintenance, a flaw in roof design and or original construction that has impacted the roofing
system performance. No surprise that known problems will also add risk factors to a roof coating
installation. A best practice is to start with a method to maintain good records for the as built roof
system data, defect histories, leak calls and maintenance histories will allow more consistent rating
and ranking of roofing areas.

Triple Bottom Line
GETTING TO THE BOTTOM OF TRIPLE BOTTOM LINE
Wayne Norman and Chris MacDonald
Abstract: In this paper, we examine critically the notion of Triple Bottom Line accounting. We
begin by asking just what it is that supporters of the Triple Bottom Line idea advocate, and attempt
to distil specific, assessable claims from the vague, diverse, and sometimes contradictory uses of the
Triple Bottom Line rhetoric. We then use these claims as a basis upon which to argue (a) that what
is sound about the idea of a Triple Bottom Line is not novel, and (b) that what is novel about the
idea is not sound. We argue on both conceptual and practical grounds that the Triple Bottom Line is
an unhelpful addition to current discussions of corporate social ... Show more content on

Organisations such as the Global Reporting Initiative and AccountAbility have embraced and
promoted the 3BL concept for use in the corporate world. And corporations are listening.
Companies as significant as AT T, Dow Chemical, Shell, and British Telecom, have used 3BL
terminology in their press releases, annual reports and other documents. So have scores of smaller
firms. Not surprisingly, most of the big accounting firms are now using the concept approvingly and
offering services to help firms that want to measure, report or audit their two additional bottom
lines. Similarly, there is now a sizable portion of the investment industry devoted to screening
companies on the basis of their social and environmental performance, and many of these explicitly
use the language of 3BL.^ Governments, government departments and political parties (especially
Green parties) are also well represented in the growing documentation of those advocating or
accepting 3BL principles. For many NGOs and activist organisations 3BL seems to be pretty much
an article of faith. Given the rapid uptake by corporations, governments, and activist groups, the
paucity of academic analysis is both surprising and worrisome. Our recent search of the principal
academic databases turned up only about a dozen articles, mostly concentrated in journals catering
to the intersection of management and environmentalism. One book beyond Elkington s has been

Comparison Of Hamlet s Views On Life And Death
Hamlet s Views on Life and Death The famous soliloquy To be, or not to be Shakespeare s
powerful words clearly illustrate Hamlet is mentally unstable. He is uncertain about death. Hamlet
is proved to be troubled in the play when he says To be, or not to be, that is the question: (III.i.63).
When Shakespeare uses the colon he illustrates Hamletis debating with himself on life and death.
He answers himself by saying Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer/ The slings and arrows of
outrageous fortune; (III.i.64) Shakespeare uses various forms of imagery in the famous To be, or
not to be soliloquy in the third act to illustrate Hamlet s view on life and death.
Shakespeare utilizes imagery to demonstrate Hamlet s state of mind. Hamlet shows true concern

this part of the soliloquy Hamlet s views of a wonderful death through the word consummation

satisfying imagery. He is relating death to a happy marriage. The use of repetition of to die, to

with his indecisiveness through violent physical imagery. For who would bear the whips and

like in the holocaust, from a personal standpoint. It came from the pages of a diary belonging to a
young Jewish girl, Anne Frank. The Diary of Anne Frank has been read by hundreds of millions of
people around the world since the end of World War II. Otto, her father, was a very well
respected businessman and a leader of the Jewish community. Anne had one sibling, a sister
named Margot, who was two years older. At the time, the country s leader was Adolf Hitler, his
followers that supported him were known as Nazi s . Hitler blamed Germany s economic
disasters on the Jewish people, in order to fix this, he wanted to annex people who practiced the
Jewish faith out of the country. He sent these people to concentration camps, better known as
death camps. It was almost impossible for anyone to survive. The camps consisted of gas
chambers, leading poison into a room killing everyone. The main cause of death was starvation,
and the poor conditions leading to diseases. Throughout the book, she explains how hard it was

King Pellinore s comical side is displayed widely throughout the novel. King Pellinore s
appearance is shown as a comical one. When Pellinore lifted up his visor, it revealed, two

shown as comical through his clumsiness. When Wart first meets Pellinore, Pellinore nearly falls

Rhetorical Analysis Of Elie Wiesel s The Perils Of...
Award winning novelist, Holocaust survivor, human rights activist, Elie Wiesel in his influential
speech, The Perils of Indifference, emphasizes that indifference is a tempting yet inhumane
quality that affects the success our new centuries to come. He develops this message by looking
back upon the horrific memories of his Holocaust experience as well as looking back upon the
countless assassinations, and wars that have created this dark shadow over humanity. The
memories of being liberated by American Soldiers cause him to see the pain and suffrage of
many but allow him to have gratitude towards the American People. Wiesel mentions how
indifference is seductive and tempting because it is the easier to not be involved in another
person s pain and despair. Wiesel s purpose is to warn readers about the corruption of indifference
in order to influence change in the new centuries to come. He creates a critical tone for readers by
using stylistic devices and rhetorical devices such as imagery, repetition, and pathos in order to
truly develop his message that inhumanity and indifference are very similar things that affect us in
the same way.
As we look into the Srebrenica Genocide of 1995, what Wiesel conveys in his speech, The Perils
of Indifference becomes clearer and more relevant than ever. Wiesel makes it clear that
indifference is capable of causing inhumanity because we find it so much easier to ignore
another person s pain and despair as long as it doesn t interrupt our life. In just a month 8,000
Bosnians were killed, this became known as the Srebrenica Genocide. The world did not react.
The Srebrenica Genocide, which occured in 1995, caused the death of approximately over
100,000 people. This was the beginning of the ethnic cleansings that characterized the atrocities of
the Yugoslav wars. (The Bosnian War) The world was just watching, they wanted to avoid the
moral responsibilities of responding to a genocide so they chose to think of it as an ethnic cleansing
rather than a genocide. (The Bosnian War) This horrible act of inhumanity is a result of
indifference, it has been one of the worst act of genocides since the nazis destruction of over 6

The Necklace Character Analysis
What would you do if you were in Loisel s shoes the night of the ball? Loisel in The Necklace
has three distinct traits; greed, selfishness, and insecurity. Loisel, is an interesting character with
many traits. The first trait that stands out was greediness in Loisel. She is married to a rich man
that works in the Department of Education. One night after work the husband came home with
an invitation to a ball. Despite his pride when he came with the invitation, she opened it and
threw the invitation on the table with annoyance, saying What do you want me to do with that?
She was aggravated with the fact she can t go because she did not have anything to wear and
didn t want to look poor in front of all the rich women. After discussing the invitation, she asked
her husband What do you want me to put on my back to go there? He says But the dress in
which you go to the theater. That looks very well to me. He stops resisting when she began
crying about not having anything to wear. As she cries, he asks how much would this cost, a
proper dress, which would do on other occasions; something very simple? , consequently giving
in to her greediness to buy her a new dress. After providing her with a nice dress she became
even greedier, desiring a new necklace. Her husband replied, You will wear some natural flowers.
They are very stylish this time of the year. For ten francs you will have two or three magnificent
roses. Her husband tries to give her as much as he can but

Analysis Of Terrence Malick s The Tree Of Life
Terrence Malick s The Tree of Life focuses on Jack, played by Sean Penn as a man and Hunter
McCracken as a boy, adrift in his life and reflecting on his childhood in 1950s Texas in a nearly
two and a half hour drama. Though the film is difficult to follow because of its highly
experimental nature, the audience is left with impressions of the film s spectacular visual and
aural presence, both of which show evidence of the influence of Christianity, which is
omnipresent in the American South. The theme is introduced at the beginning of the film by
Mrs. O Brien, played by Jessica Chastain, as she speaks in a gentle voice over about the way of
nature and the way of grace. In his book How Should We Then Live?: The Rise and Decline of
Western Thought and Culture, famous American theologian Francis Schaeffer concluded that
nature is as the lower while grace is the higher (Schaeffer 55). In the religious context of the film,
this means that as nature is self serving and representative of humans on earth while grace is other
serving and representative of God in heaven. This divide between the way of nature and the way
of grace finds itself present in various aspects of the film. While Terrence Malicks The Tree of Life
does not offer conventional evidence of the theme because of its experimental nature, the visuals,
music, and underscoring of the film support the audience s interpretation of the main theme of
nature versus grace.

North Montana Will Apply The Choice Of Law Essay
The main question in this exercise is whether North Montana will apply the choice of law
provision in the contract between Good Hands and the Walmsleys. A forum applies its own
choice of law approach. So here the North Montana Court will apply the Second Restatement of
Conflicts of Laws as the state follows that approach. Under the Second Restatement, three main
steps need to be considered: 1) whether the conflict is procedural or substantive, 2) whether there
is a choice of law provision in the contract, and whether that provision should be applied, and 3)
the application of the choice of law rules from the Second Restatement. Here, it appears that the
choice of law provision selecting Old York should be applied because none of the exceptions to the
general rule apply.
I.Procedural vs. Substantive Law
The first step under the Second Restatement approach is to determine whether the forum s rule is
procedural or substantive. If a rule is procedural than a forum will apply its own law. Courts using
the Second Restatement follows the applicable provisions in the restatement. This is similar to the
first restatement besides evidentiary privileges and statute of limitations. One of the main tests is
whether a section of the Second Restatement classifies a question as substantive. Section 193 of the
Second Restatement, which is found in the Contracts rather than the Procedure chapter, governs the
validity of insurance contracts. Here, the question is about the validity

Tragic Events In American History
The military attack carried out by the Imperial Japanese Navy on the United States naval base at
Pearl Harbor was a tragic occurrence in United States history. On December 7, 1941, the barrage
led to the loss of more than two thousand American lives. Americans under no circumstances
believed the Japanese would plan a direct attack on American soil due to the inconveniences and
especially not in Hawaiiof all places. Nevertheless, the tragic event led to the involvement of the
United Statesin World War II after two years of conflict.
Nearly seventy four years later, while perusing a menu at a local Chinese restaurant in
Stockbridge, Georgia, the choice wording of sushi rolls raised a red flag. Names such as Pearl
Harbor Roll and Atomic Bomb Roll were listed under the Chef s Special Rolls along with
Kamikaze Roll at the establishment where the Japanese cuisine is also offered to customers. My

The Decline Of The Reformation
The fact that the Renaissance took place before the Protestant Reformation was not a coincidence.
One of the major promoters of the Reformation was the availability of the Bible in the common
language of the people throughout Europe. Another was the growing number of people who were
able to read the Bible for themselves. Both the availability of printed material and the increasing
literacy rates were direct consequences of the Renaissanceand thus fostered the Reformation that
followed. Without the events that took place during the Renaissance the Reformation may never
have taken place.
The Renaissance period was marked by a renewed interest in Classical culture, art, learning and
science. The Reformation was a religious movement which challenged the authority of the pope and
the Catholic Church, which until that time had been the only organized form of Christianity in
Western Europe. The Reformation began when Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses, his list of
grievances against the Catholic Church s practices, to the door of a church. Luther s main
disagreement with the Church was over indulgences, the sale by the Papacy of remission of
penalties imposed by God on souls in Purgatory. He attached the theory behind indulgences that the
Pope could make grants to the faithful from the treasure of merits accumulated by Christ and the
saints over and above what they had needed for their own salvation.
The grievances that Luther had with the Church had been greatly nurtured by

The opening of new markets within the EU exposed many national carriers to strong competition.
This trend has been furthered by the continuous liberalization of the global aviation industry and
specifically the recent OpenSkies agreement between EU and the US which allows the national
carriers to arrange the Atlantic flights from the airports that are not airlines ports of origin. (BATA,
2010).
Latest developments on the British political scene create strong pressure on the costs of operations
for all the British carriers. The recently proposed raised taxation will put a huge disadvantage on
the British civil aviation industry. The new Government (2010) also introduced policy of blocking
airport expansion in the South East of England (McGhie, 2010).
2.2 Economic factors
From the economic perspective there have been few main points of pressure on the strategy of
British Airways. The 2008 global recession, the worst economic downturn since 1930s, continuous
high unemployment rates, along with the fluctuation of the British Pound continue to negatively
influence all businesses. Amidst the crisis, trade unions demanded greater government intervention
to support employment levels. Yet, in order to preserve employment levels, collective agreements
between UK social partners at organizational level set new standards of reduced working time
(Eiroonline, 2010).

Strategic bombing would be a major factor in the destruction of London. More than 500,000
people would die because of strategic bombing campaigns. Blitzkrieg is also known as The Blitz
would be a major tactic used by the Nazi s. They would use this tactic to invade neighboring
countries. By the time the blitz came upon Britain the Nazi s conquered most of Europe. The
Nazi s planned to attack Britain and invade. They would try to cripple the British defenses. While
trying to bombard their defenses they accidentally attacked a civilian area which caused uproar
with the British people. Many people thought raids like this would not stop so they had a mass
migration of children and artwork. The Nazi s began bombing London in September of 1940 and
this would last until May of 1941. The Battle of Britain was going on around the same time. This
battle would not only be important because it would prove to the Nazi s that they could not
invade Britain, but this would mark Hitler s first defeat in World War 2. This would be a
landmark battle because not only was this battle not fought on land, but for this first time in
human history the whole battle was fought in the skies. One of the greatest military inventions
would come out of this battle was radar. Radar was only in the infancy before the battle, but
would become vital in the allies victory in the war. London by the end of the war was in need of
major reconstruction. Many would see this as an opportunity to rebuild and grow the city like
never before. They would introduce satellite towns and high rise buildings. They would build the
Barbican which would hold office blocks, an arts centre, a museum, housing and a school. This
would be one of the biggest reconstruction projects in European

Cuba
Cuba has been under a dictator named Fidel Castro since 1959 when his army took over the
communist party that was running the country. Cuba s main source of economic growth comes
from agriculture and exports to and from Europe. Since America has had an embargo on Cuba since
1962 neither countries trade with each other because of many disagreements about governing
techniques and Fidel s unwillingness to comply with U.S. instructions. Cuba s long history and
culture has contributed to many economic and social growth through out the world, but Cuba is

status. The United States has a democracy where as Cuba has a dictatorship. Cuba is one of the
poorest countries in the world and yet the U.S. is one of the most powerful countries in the world.
The U.S. sets the standards for other industrial nations, however Cuba does all that it can with their

Social Justice Australia
Social Justice relates to fair distribution of every privilege we have to people and places that
need it more such as, wealth, opportunities and privileges. Social Justice is definitely important to
Australia as we need to help not just the people who are struggling on our streets. We also need
help people that struggle in appalling conditions in countries, such as Cambodia. Thankfully, we

It is somewhat under the area of Stewardship of Creation which means that we have to stop and
contemplate about how we live on our planet currently and how we treat other human that are
beings of God. Usually their beliefs on these subjects and many others are formed from scripture
such as Matthew 6:13 ...and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil This scripture
reference relates to the issue of drug abuse due to the fact that having drugs is dubbed temptation
and that you shouldn t be tempted by it, this counts as sin in the context of the bible. This also
can ruin relationships with people around us if drug abuse occures. Another scripture reference
from 1 Corinthians 3:17 that also indirectly condemns the participation of drug abuse is If
anyone destroys God s temple, God will destroy him. For God s temple is holy, and you are that
temple. Even though this reference does not directly tackle the issue of substance abuse, but
indirectly, it shows that the christian faith and that person s body will be damaged in one way or
another, somewhere in their life. Therefore, these references showcase that the bible and catholic
social teachings are firmly against the practise of substance abuse, this belief is followed by many
Catholics today and helps them achieve social justice in

Chinese State Owned Enterprises
Introduction Since the Chinese Economic reform in 1978, Chinese economy transferred from
planned economy to market economy. Under the new circumstances of socialist market economy
with Chinese characteristics, a large number of workers faced unemployment with the economic
reforms. In the 1990s, the reforms of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) enhanced the job losses and
changes, causing a new noun xiagang , the laid off workers unemployed with remained work
relationships from SOEs. In comparison with the situations before 1980s, the workers benefits and
social positions have dramatically changed. The workers no longer hold the so called Iron Rice
Bowl that guaranteed all the welfares and permanent employment. On xiagang status, workers are
helpless, depressed and confused about the future. Laid off workers in Chinahas become an issue of
great significance related to workforce allocation, people s wellbeing and economic development.
In this essay, we will discover the reasons for the appearance of laid off workers in China from
current literature via historical and economic aspects and also the influences of reforms of SOEs
on the hardship of the laid off workers. In addition, the re employment policies will be covered.

Pride And Prejudice By Jane Austen Essay
Pride and Prejudice is a novel written by Jane Austen. It was first published in 1813. Ignoring the
fact that I have already read the book in high school, the novel tackles on very interesting issues,
which makes itself just as interesting for a book report. The story mainly revolves around
Elizabeth Bennet as she faces issues concerning manners, upbringings, education, morality, and
marriage. The setting is in England in the early 19th century, so the social norms found in the
book are more accustomed to the British Regency and strange to any other significant time
periods . Before all else, there are several sociological themes in this novel. Just to name a few:
women and femininity, prejudice, and the most notorious of them all, society and class. These
themes heavily impact the story as it progresses from the main character, Elizabeth Bennet, to more
minor characters like Charlotte Lucas. Although it was never directly mentioned, there are a few
implications of why this novel was written. One of these possibilities is the portrayal of Jane
Bennet. She s literally the embodiment of a perfect girl. She s gentle, patient, beautiful, optimistic,
and the list goes on. Jane is the ideal woman in her society and that s perhaps why Austen
implemented her. Her character was mainly there to set up the conditions for Elizabeth and Darcy
to meet and had little presence throughout the story till the ending. Even in that spotlight she had,
Jane was primarily seen as the most desirable

Psychoanalytical Theory Essays
Psychoanalytical Theory Sigmund Freud (1856 1939) was the first person to initiate the thought of
psychoanalysis. According to Friedlander (1947), classical Freudian psychoanalytic explanations of
delinquency focus on abnormalities or disturbances in the individual s emotional development from
early childhood. Since then many people have amended his original writings and presently there
are numerous versions Freud s original psychoanalytical theory. Many of these recent versions are
similar to the original version with the exception that they are updated to current times. Few new
models are extremely different from Freud s theory. Adler, Mueller, and Laufer (2004) describe the

86). The psychoanalytical theory focuses on the development of personality, the stages of
development and the emotional problems reflecting some unconscious aspects of one s
psychological functioning. Adler, Mueller, and Laufer (2004) base this theory on three principles.
First, The actions and behavior of an adult are understood in terms of childhood development.
Second, Behavior and unconscious motives are intertwined, and their interaction must be
unraveled if we are to understand criminality. Third, Criminality is essentially a representation of
psychological conflict (p. 86). Freud believes that criminality has a lot to do with the structural
model of the mind. He breaks the mind down into three categories; the Id, Ego, and the Superego.
The Id is the unconscious seat of irrational, antisocial, and instinctual impulses which must be
controlled and shaped for social adaptation to life in society (Akers, 1999, p. 50). When newborn
babies are born, they have biological drives that are unaffected by society. The Id can be considered
the instructional forces, which focuses around sexual desires or drives. This is now the time when
the infant knows nothing but the pleasure principle and when tension gets high it will only behave

Introduction Despite centuries of contemplation, the topic of soul origination remains divisive
within the Christian community. Recognizing the significant ramifications which follow from
anthropological doctrines, Lindsey Disney and Larry Poston purpose to outline historical Christian
positions of soul ontology, along with examining their implications for contemporary ethical issues.
Disappointingly, Disney and Poston fail to provide any useful insight into the discussion, and this
critique will demonstrate the article s inability to further discussions regarding the origin of the
human soul. Brief Summary Introducing the topic in defining key terms, Disney and Poston begin

Rather than conducting exegetical or philosophical analysis, the authors focus on sociological
factors that may have influenced cultural understanding of anthropology, demonstrating a disregard
for objective truths concerning the metaphysical status of persons. Moreover, although they rightly
encourage compassion in emotionally charged discussions, they also advocate a willingness to
acknowledge a multitude of possible truths, rather than exhorting critical thinking and a passion for
acquiring genuine knowledge. Accordingly, Disney and Poston do not articulate a clear thesis, nor
do they contend for a particular position regarding soul ontology, electing instead to remain
agnostic. Although the authors accurately summarize the traditional Christian positions, they
exhibit poor scholarship during their interaction with the doctrines failing to introduce, consider, or
refute relevant theological and philosophical arguments and objections. ConclusionUnwilling to
analyze historical positions and defend a clear thesis, Disney and Poston fail to provide any useful
insight into the discussion of soul origination. Furthermore, by avoiding meaningful theological
investigation, philosophical analysis, and exegetical considerations, this article proves incapable of

The Politics Of Refugee Relief
The Civil War in Syria has raged on for over six years now, and over half of the population has
fled or died in the war torn country. A constant rain of bombings, bullets and fires that burn down
their communities plague the cities of Syria. It is due to this that the large number of fleeing
refugees from the Middle East is continuing to grow. This is directly affecting the conditions of the
refugeecamps that are willing to house the majority of refugees. Therefore, the effect is growing
more unacceptable. It does seem that the camps are able to support these numbers, and some of the
asylum seekers are choosing to go elsewhere. The places that many are finding refuge are several

Chaos still runs rampant in the towns, rather than being safe havens for those who are seeking
shelter. The presence of war is still undeniable, and the presence of gangs is slowly rising within
the camps. In a camp in Za atari Jordan, the leaders of gangs are on the rise. In the article The
Politics of Refugee Relief. Dissent, the author addresses the issue directly by reviewing them as
powerful individuals and organized gangs [that] have imposed their will on sections of the
camp, diverting assistance and engaging in criminal activities. (para. 3) . These leaders were
once people of importance in their hometowns back in Syria. Therefore the residents of the
camps easily let them take on power within their section of the camp. According to Clarke, the
gang leaders took part in activities such as run[nning] illegal businesses or smuggling operations
(as in Lebanon, Syrians cannot legally work in Jordan), and some deliberately diverted aid and
goods to their own constituents in the camp. (para. 4) . Why is it that, in a place that is meant to
be refuge for patrons of war, they are still facing the violent actions of gang leaders and illegal
activity? The answer is simple and written clearly in the desert sand: these people are trying so
desperately to find solitude again, but are being denied the most basic principles of a stable life.
The camps are established with good intentions but lack the quality and provisions needed to
support the refugees. Such is that follows any other fallen government or territory, anarchy swept

Breastfeeding Issues Essay
Breastfeeding issues
It is quite essential for the mother to nurse her own child by herself, there would be many factors
causing a problem while breastfeeding her child. It s common to face challenges at this age; I
would be jotting down some common breastfeeding issues and solutions to them as well. If these
won t help, it is advisable that you visit a medical expert nearby.
Baby doesn t latch
It can turn out to be frustrating things to deal having a baby that won t latch. It is one of the most
common problems.
The correct way to get your baby to latch is by getting naked from the waist up. Get your baby to
a semi reclining position only in its diaper. Keep his mouth on your chest, as soon as the baby is
ready, he might scoot down to the breast and should latch on. Skin to skin is a magical cure for a
non latching baby to get it latched. If you still have latch problems breastfeeding, consult help.
Sometimes, it is common that the baby sleeps within a few minutes after he gets latched, you
might be concerned whether he/she is even eating or not, the best way to figure that out is
waking him/her up and giving an eat signal, the way to do that is doing breast compressions
allowing milk to flow, do that gently so that you do not bruise yourself. The baby might respond to
this by swallowing or sucking, let go as soon as the sucking stops. Sometimes stroking the baby
under his/her chin can also encourage the baby to suck.

It is not normal to feel outright pain;

The Real Inspector Hound Essay
Argument of a play: A play within a play in The Real Inspector Hound.
The Real Inspector Hound is a play by Tom Stoppard whose plot follows two theater critics
called BirdBoot and Moon as they attended a play in London. The play also traces the narrative
arc of the two theater critics as well as the narrative arc of the murder mystery play that they are
assigned to review. In the play, Tom Stoppard provides a story and a one act parody play about the
nature of role playing in a detective fiction. This paper explores the play within a play as
explored by Stoppard where by the end of the play, both the internal and external play becomes
entangled and becomes almost impossible to separate. A play within a play is where a play is

In the play, the main characters operate within two structural units. For example, they acquire a
single identity in the play as their actual identities and another in the inner play as their fictive
identities. The internal, which is the play within a play and the external which is the Stoppard s
play are intimately connected with the play only functioning when it includes the play within a
play and the play within a play highly necessitates the external play s context. However, the
distinction that exists between their identities between the plays is not that absolute. The line that
separates the characters becomes weaker as they move across the boundary that separates the
inner from the outer play. This is replicated in the line separating the reality of the world from the
fiction of the Muldoon Manor s world. Stoppard was able to provide a suggestion of the nature of
role playing as well as the power of illusion over reality through his creation of a rigid structural
demarcation line after which he violates the line through the entrance into the play by his

The Everglades And Global Warming
The Everglades and Global warming

BSC2010
Broward College The Everglades and Global warming
Introduction
The Everglades mainly found in the United States of America (USA) is a 2 million acre of
wetland ecosystem that stretches from the Central of Florida near to Orlando to the Bay of Florida
in the south. During rainy seasons, Lake Okeechobee experience upsurge in water volumes causing
it to discharge the waters into the river of grass that characterize with shallow slow moving water
carrying grass marshes. The river flows south and passing through different habitats namely wet
prairie, cypress swamps, mangroves, Everglades National Park and lastly into the Florida Bay. The
current size of the Everglades is smaller than it was originally. The decrease in size has majorly
been due to human activities that include diversions of the water for agriculture and flood control
as well as urban development. The Everglades borders the cities of Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. The
region is tourist attraction for birders, boaters, and anglers among others. The Everglades
ecosystem supports agricultural activities besides supplying clean drinking water to the southern
Florida residents. Just like other natural ecosystems like lakes and forests, the Everglades is facing
dangers of global warming. The increasing global temperatures are causing a significant change and
destruction of its iconic natural appearance. Besides the direct effects, global warming is

their similar worlds and shows us how each of them react to a wide range of incredible and
mythical events. At first glance, it can appear that the four branches of the Mabinogi are entirely

  • 2. Ghost Army In Ww2 Essay In World War Two countries relied on clandestine operations to win the war. Many different tactics were used. Tactics included infiltration of the other sides borders, creating fake armies, code breaking and utilizing secret agencies. Clandestine operations during world war two proved integral to the war as a whole. The Office of Strategic Services was the American intelligence agency during World War Two and its activities helped the allied cause. One of the Office of Strategic Services major missions was penetrating Nazi Germany. The OSS was able to train some of the German people to enact missions inside Germany. This allowed the US to destroy Germany from the inside. The OSS was also involved in turning Turkey into a neutral country.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ghost army was mainly composed of artists. The ways they fooled the enemy include using fake artillery, planting soldiers in nearby towns to fool spies, creating fake radio broadcasts and many other things. The Ghost Army relied heavily on inflatables to create the illusion of an army. They had inflatable tanks, artillery and even inflatable soldiers. The ghost army s sonic division created sounds that a real army division would make. Sounds included the movement of tanks, building a bridge and the sound of gunfire. Since the Germans received a lot of their intelligence from radio broadcasts, the radio division of the Ghost Army created fake radio broadcasts to fool the Germans and to further add to the illusion that the was an actual army division stationed where they were. One major mission that the ghost army was involved in was Operation Bettembourg where there was a 70 mile hole between divisions of the army. The army knew if the Germans knew the hole was there they would try to attack through the gap. The Ghost army was sent in to fill the hole and they were able to fool the enemy with the illusion of 30,000 soldiers when there were only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO MODELS Over the first few units, an operation following the cumulative average curve will experience a much greater reduction in cost (hours or dollars) than an operation following a unit curve with the same slope. The unit curve should be used in situations where the firm is fully prepared for production; and the cumulative average curve should be used in situations where the firm is not completely ready for production. Most firms in the airframe industry use the cumulative average curve. Most firms in other industries use the unit curve. • 4. Real Courage Research Paper Courage is a highly debated topic in modern day society. Phrases such as, Was that really courage? or I could have done that, prevent us from seeing true courage. Courage is not always a heroic win of a battle, or even the fight against terrible diseases. Courage is the willingness to stand up for what is right, and to get back up, even when things go wrong. Courage is, and always will be, one of the great gifts of the Holy Spirit, and can be shown be ordinary people in their everyday lives. Some people are chosen to be saints because of their great courage. While many see Saint Francis of Assisi as a sweet guy who walked around singing, and smelling the roses, they are wrong. When he was young he went to war eagerly, and later in his life he endured imprisonment and illness. Saint Maximilian Kolbe lived in Poland during WWII. He was sent to a death camp by the Nazis. When ten men in his cell were chosen to be executed, Maximilian offered to take the place of a man who had a wife and two children. The Nazis were more than happy to oblige. Mother Teresa Calcutta lived in a time of famine for her country. She left her convent and decided to create a religious community of her own. She helped as many people as much as she could, with no regard for her own health. She even helped people with terrible diseases, like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychodynamics, in its broadest sense, is an approach to the study of human behavior that emphasizes the study and use of the psychological forces that underlie human behavior, feelings and emotions; how they relate to early childhood experiences . . . Thus, intergenerational and psychoanalytic family therapies share several key concepts and practices: examining a client s early relationships to understand present functioning; tracing transgenerational and extended family dynamics to understand a client s complaints; promoting insight into extended family dynamics to facilitate change; and identifying and altering destructive beliefs and patterns of behavior that were ... Therefore, I learned many lessons regarding team work and communication. Speaking Fast: In the initial Friday group meetings I found myself never allowing the other analysts to digest the material that I was explain. Musa pointed this out to me half way through the internship and told me slow down and ask questions to make sure your listeners understand what you are explaining. This became important when I began to mentor new inters because it was necessary that they retained the information that I was explaining during our time together. Listening: Musa believed that I was a good listening, however that I could improve. Musa stated, Always listen to respond , when listening to respond you absorb what the speaker is saying before responding. Working as a Minority: The fact that I was a minority in the team of 5 analysts did not come to my attention until the end of my internship period. Musa and I found this strange because a vast majority of the financial industry is Caucasian males, however even though this internship is in financial industry I was the only white Caucasian male intern; we furthered our study and found out that I was the only white Caucasian male to even apply for the position. The Canada s Food Guide Essay The Canada s Food Guide has been in place since 1942, and nearly a decade has passed since the release of the current Eating Well with Canada s Food Guide (EWCFG) (Mortillaro, 2016). Critics believe that the time has come for the revision of the second most downloaded document in Canada in the interest of reflecting the changing lifestyles of Canadians (Mortillaro, 2016). At the time of its launch during World War II, male female roles differed vastly, with stay at home moms preparing home cooked meals. However, according to latest information provided by Statistics Canada, 69% of households with families are dual earners today (Statistics Canada, 2015). The effect of dual earning has taken its toll on Canadian food consumption patterns (Mortillaro, 2016). Consequently, the existing food guide has received mixed reviews and immense criticism by several researchers, and has even been declared obesogenic (Corby, 2007; Kondro, 2006; L Abbe Mahsa, 2015). This is particularly disturbing because according to the 2004 Canadian Community Health Survey, 59% of the adult population is overweight and 1 in 4 is obese; the numbers are even more alarming regarding children and adolescents (Karmali et al., 2010). The cause of the obesity epidemic might be right at our fingertips with the Unhealthy Food Guide that is imposed on Canadians. One strict change that must occur to the food guide includes disassociating 100% fruit juices as vegetableand fruit sources, and thereby removing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Writings Of Karl Marx Allison Bierman SOC 3020 Strand December 11, 2014 Final Paper: Question #9 The writings of Karl Marx, Max Weber, and Emile Durkheim each set out to discuss how an individual is connected to their social standing within society. Along with how social classes form their beginnings. Each of their theories are complex and require thorough analysis in order to fully understand their point of view. How social class is obtained in the United States is the question being posed. I will discuss which theory I personally think is best and most applicable to our modern society. I will thoroughly compare and contrast the works of Marx, Weber, and Durkheim; along with pointing out strengths and weaknesses in all three. It is first important to understand the meaning of social class. Sociologically speaking, the term social class is a way to divide individuals based upon their economic and social standing within the larger system of economic production. In the United States, the five most common social classes include: upper class elite, upper middle class, lower middle class, working class, and poor. It is assumed that the more money one has, the higher their class status will be however there is always the possibility for outliers. Social class controls several aspects of our lives and is an extremely important factor when determining potential opportunities. Karl Marx is a sociological theorist who had great influence over how we currently look at social class. According to Marx, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analyzing a chicken skeleton led to the discovery that while there are certainly visible differences between the bodies, both skeletons have a myriad of bones in common. For example, the bones that both the chicken and human skeletonhave in common include: the mandible, the clavicle, the sternum, the scapula, the humerus, and the patella. However, despite the common bones, the chicken skeleton contains bones that humans do not have such as the pygostyle, furcula, and sclerotic ring, while as humans have bones that chickens do not share such as the hyoid, calcaneus, and stapes. Despite being different species, the chicken and human skeletons have numerous bones in common. A few of the several shared bones includes: the mandible, the clavicle, the sternum, the scapula, the humerus, and the patella. The mandible, located in the lower part of the skull in humans, functions to move the lower jaw which allows the mouth to open and close. Used in conjunction with muscles, the mandible allows humans to not only speak but also consume food and drinks (Healthline). In a chicken, the mandible forms the bottom of the beak which allows for the consumption of foods and liquids as well as killing prey, fighting predators or other chickens, and feeding chicks. The ultimate consequences of Promethean ambition are characterized through Victor and Walton, who parallels Victor, yet is able to turn from the intoxicating draught of superiority and unbridled ambition. This juxtaposition of character reinforces the significance of moral responsibility, as Shelley ultimately mocks the hateful bond between Frankenstein and his child, the Monster. The harsh consequences of disrupting nature and forfeiting moral conscience are conveyed, connoting the inevitable demise due to loss of self and identity. Contrastingly, the modern, technologically driven world of Blade Runner conveys man s usurption of nature caused through his arrogance and desire for dominance. In this contrastingly industrialized, scientifically grounded world, nature has been relentlessly exploited and commodified, as man has attempted to penetrate into the recesses . The allusion to the Promethean myth through the symbolic use of fire is seen in the opening scenes of shooting fire, intercut with close up shots of an eye, symbolically representing fire as having the potential to both nurture and destroy life. In the study done by the American Indian Law Journal, of the 17 tribes studies that handed casino profits directly to its members, 10 saw their poverty rates rise, and of the 7 tribes that did note, only two saw such an increase. Few people in the history of literature publicized as many thoughts and critical views as T.S. Eliot, and by disseminating his opinions throughout the literature world, Eliot found a way to communicate new perspectives and tastes in literature (Worthen). Born in the fall of 1888, T.S. Containing stories, news, and opinions of both T.S. Eliot and others who wrote about him, The Letters of T.S. Eliot offer an inside perspective on Eliot s life (Eliot and Haffenden). In Volume 1 of the revised edition of the letters Patrick Query describes how T.S. Eliot felt so much passion for culture and how it must improve (Letters, Volume 1). In the volume, the writer states Eliot started a movement to modernize literature all on his own. Eliot contained such a strong passion for making the world a better place, that as society generally acted apathetically towards life, Eliot strived for a culture where people actually inserted energy and passion into life (Poetry Foundation). Also, in John Worthen s biography of T.S. Eliot, the author believes Eliot focused the entire masterpiece of Four Quartets on illustrating to his audience despite painful times in life, people must focus more on the beauty of life (Worthen). After addressing the aspects of society he believed needed to improve, Eliot wrote several poems on each topic which showed the beauty of his opinion and a more joyful culture. As a result I got more responses, and I think people were more honest as well. I also allowed for the respondents to choose whether they have majority or minority status. I had nine responses, three identifying as minoritystatus, five as majority status, and one student who was not sure, since he/she/they fell into multiple target groups but reported that she didn t experience any discrimination. There were some interesting discrepancies, since one female student reported that she was a minority, and another reportedly felt she was in the majority. At RIT, the distribution of gender differs by program, so this could be a reason why this discrepancy exists. None of the students who identified themselves as having majority status reported experiencing any discrimination themselves, and neither did the one female student who identified as a minority but fell into no other target groups. One respondent, a self identified conservative, Catholic white male chose to identify as a minority group. I thought this made sense since college campuses tend to be liberal, so conservatives are sometimes considered to be minorities. I thought about adding a checkbox for ideological minorities to my target group list when I first made my survey, but I was concerned that anyone might have a reason to check that box, since everyone s ideologies vary to some ... The existence of two visual systems was first suggested by Schneider (1969), and later confirmed by Ungerleider and Mishkin (1982) who claimed pathways that transmit information from the primary visual cortex are components of two main streams: dorsal and ventral. From experiments on monkeys, they established their what versus where theory, which states that the dorsal stream is responsible for object localisation and the ventral stream is responsible for object identification. Their theory was only popular until the 1990s, when other researchers began to suggest it may be inadequate. Amongst those was Milner and Goodale (1995) who offered an alternative approach. A patient named D.F. suffered from this, and provided a great amount of support for Milner and Goodale s theory. Although her low level visual functions such as target detection and colour discrimination were normal, her ability to recognize familiar faces and common objects was impaired. Yet when shown real objects rather than drawings, D.F. could recognize them. However, upon further examination of this ability it was found that D.F. was using surface properties such as colour, rather than the outline of the shape to identify the object (Humphrey et al 1994). What confirmed Milner and Goodale s theory was that D.F. could grasp objects that she could not entirely perceive. Initial experiments by Milner et al (1991) highlighted this. In these D.F. was given a disc and had to perform either a perceptual orientation matching task or a visuomotor task. It was found that although she could not explain the orientation of the slot, her performance on the visuomotor task where she had to post the disc into the slot was typical. Milner and Goodale (1995) argued this was because D.F s ventral stream was severely impaired, and the visuomotor skills she still had were due to an intact dorsal stream. This dissociation found between perception and action only increased the idea that the ventral and dorsal stream are independently working ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We begin by asking just what it is that supporters of the Triple Bottom Line idea advocate, and attempt to distil specific, assessable claims from the vague, diverse, and sometimes contradictory uses of the Triple Bottom Line rhetoric. We then use these claims as a basis upon which to argue (a) that what is sound about the idea of a Triple Bottom Line is not novel, and (b) that what is novel about the idea is not sound. We argue on both conceptual and practical grounds that the Triple Bottom Line is an unhelpful addition to current discussions of corporate social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Award winning novelist, Holocaust survivor, human rights activist, Elie Wiesel in his influential speech, The Perils of Indifference, emphasizes that indifference is a tempting yet inhumane quality that affects the success our new centuries to come. He develops this message by looking back upon the horrific memories of his Holocaust experience as well as looking back upon the countless assassinations, and wars that have created this dark shadow over humanity. The memories of being liberated by American Soldiers cause him to see the pain and suffrage of many but allow him to have gratitude towards the American People. Wiesel mentions how indifference is seductive and tempting because it is the easier to not be involved in another person s pain and despair. Wiesel s purpose is to warn readers about the corruption of indifference in order to influence change in the new centuries to come. He creates a critical tone for readers by using stylistic devices and rhetorical devices such as imagery, repetition, and pathos in order to truly develop his message that inhumanity and indifference are very similar things that affect us in the same way. As we look into the Srebrenica Genocide of 1995, what Wiesel conveys in his speech, The Perils of Indifference becomes clearer and more relevant than ever. Wiesel makes it clear that indifference is capable of causing inhumanity because we find it so much easier to ignore another person s pain and despair as long as it doesn t interrupt our life. • 31. Analysis Of Terrence Malick s The Tree Of Life Terrence Malick s The Tree of Life focuses on Jack, played by Sean Penn as a man and Hunter McCracken as a boy, adrift in his life and reflecting on his childhood in 1950s Texas in a nearly two and a half hour drama. Though the film is difficult to follow because of its highly experimental nature, the audience is left with impressions of the film s spectacular visual and aural presence, both of which show evidence of the influence of Christianity, which is omnipresent in the American South. The theme is introduced at the beginning of the film by Mrs. O Brien, played by Jessica Chastain, as she speaks in a gentle voice over about the way of nature and the way of grace. In his book How Should We Then Live?: The Rise and Decline of Western Thought and Culture, famous American theologian Francis Schaeffer concluded that nature is as the lower while grace is the higher (Schaeffer 55). In the religious context of the film, this means that as nature is self serving and representative of humans on earth while grace is other serving and representative of God in heaven. This divide between the way of nature and the way of grace finds itself present in various aspects of the film. While Terrence Malicks The Tree of Life does not offer conventional evidence of the theme because of its experimental nature, the visuals, music, and underscoring of the film support the audience s interpretation of the main theme of nature versus grace. North Montana Will Apply The Choice Of Law Essay The main question in this exercise is whether North Montana will apply the choice of law provision in the contract between Good Hands and the Walmsleys. A forum applies its own choice of law approach. So here the North Montana Court will apply the Second Restatement of Conflicts of Laws as the state follows that approach. Under the Second Restatement, three main steps need to be considered: 1) whether the conflict is procedural or substantive, 2) whether there is a choice of law provision in the contract, and whether that provision should be applied, and 3) the application of the choice of law rules from the Second Restatement. Here, it appears that the choice of law provision selecting Old York should be applied because none of the exceptions to the general rule apply. I.Procedural vs. Substantive Law The first step under the Second Restatement approach is to determine whether the forum s rule is procedural or substantive. If a rule is procedural than a forum will apply its own law. Courts using the Second Restatement follows the applicable provisions in the restatement. This is similar to the first restatement besides evidentiary privileges and statute of limitations. One of the main tests is whether a section of the Second Restatement classifies a question as substantive. • 39. The Decline Of The Reformation The fact that the Renaissance took place before the Protestant Reformation was not a coincidence. One of the major promoters of the Reformation was the availability of the Bible in the common language of the people throughout Europe. Another was the growing number of people who were able to read the Bible for themselves. Both the availability of printed material and the increasing literacy rates were direct consequences of the Renaissanceand thus fostered the Reformation that followed. Without the events that took place during the Renaissance the Reformation may never have taken place. The Renaissance period was marked by a renewed interest in Classical culture, art, learning and science. The Reformation was a religious movement which challenged the authority of the pope and the Catholic Church, which until that time had been the only organized form of Christianity in Western Europe. The Reformation began when Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses, his list of grievances against the Catholic Church s practices, to the door of a church. Luther s main disagreement with the Church was over indulgences, the sale by the Papacy of remission of penalties imposed by God on souls in Purgatory. Ignoring the fact that I have already read the book in high school, the novel tackles on very interesting issues, which makes itself just as interesting for a book report. The story mainly revolves around Elizabeth Bennet as she faces issues concerning manners, upbringings, education, morality, and marriage. The setting is in England in the early 19th century, so the social norms found in the book are more accustomed to the British Regency and strange to any other significant time periods . Before all else, there are several sociological themes in this novel. Just to name a few: women and femininity, prejudice, and the most notorious of them all, society and class. These themes heavily impact the story as it progresses from the main character, Elizabeth Bennet, to more minor characters like Charlotte Lucas. Although it was never directly mentioned, there are a few implications of why this novel was written. One of these possibilities is the portrayal of Jane Bennet. She s literally the embodiment of a perfect girl. She s gentle, patient, beautiful, optimistic, and the list goes on. Jane is the ideal woman in her society and that s perhaps why Austen implemented her. Her character was mainly there to set up the conditions for Elizabeth and Darcy to meet and had little presence throughout the story till the ending. The Real Inspector Hound is a play by Tom Stoppard whose plot follows two theater critics called BirdBoot and Moon as they attended a play in London. The play also traces the narrative arc of the two theater critics as well as the narrative arc of the murder mystery play that they are assigned to review. In the play, Tom Stoppard provides a story and a one act parody play about the nature of role playing in a detective fiction. This is replicated in the line separating the reality of the world from the fiction of the Muldoon Manor s world. Stoppard was able to provide a suggestion of the nature of role playing as well as the power of illusion over reality through his creation of a rigid structural demarcation line after which he violates the line through the entrance into the play by his ...
