Prohibition Essay
Prohibition
The 18th amendment, known as prohibition, had America in fits when it was ratified in 1919.
The government was hoping to achieve a healthier, efficient society with good morals and a break
for women from receiving beatings from drunken husbands. Although the motives behind
prohibition were reasonable, it was so corrupted from the beginning that it never could have
successfully been carried out. America became a lawless period, and many Americans felt that if
they could get away with ignoring one law, then they did not have to follow any others (Axelrod
239). However, it may have been necessary for the progression of America for it accomplished a
great many other feats other than sobering up citizens. Women fought actively for ... Show more

However, it was not only Americans who were feeling the sting of prohibition. Foreigners,
especially Germans, were angry at the movement, feeling that they were being discriminated against
for how they lived (Kyvig).
Alcohol was, at first, relief from stress for men, but soon became a part of society as a whole.
Alcohol was a big factor in determining your social status and offered many men and women
legal jobs to support themselves and their families. It was cheaper than other drinks, such as coffee
or tea, and it was safer to drink than unpasteurized milk or impure water, so it was the ideal drink,
some elderly citizens needed alcohol for medical reasons (Kyvig). Nevertheless, this did not stop the
ratification of the 18th amendment.
When government embraced prohibition, what was taken for granted became lost. Women being
submissive towards men, men holding down a secure job, and the economic boom of the Roaring
Twenties all came to pass when alcohol was prohibited. Although considered by some an
advantage, others saw how women used their newfound freedom as offensive. Flappers an alcohol
became and almost indistinguishable couple. Although it gave women a chance to show their
knowledge and class, temperance was thrown out the window (Lerner 176). As well as women
breaking free, jobs were being broken off, throwing men and women into

The Bauhaus Of Bauhaus School
The Bauhaus School merged fine arts with applied arts and industrial production to change the way
in which graphic and industrial designers approached ideas of ornamentation, beauty and
functionality. With his manifesto; The final goal of all artistic activity is architecture Bauhaus
founder, Gropius, focused primarily on functionality, rejecting the extravagance of the Arts and
Crafts Movement. Political, social and economic factors all influenced the new egalitarian or
utopian approach to design, which embraced the machine aesthetic of the first quarter of the 20th
century and resulted in a socialist or democratised approach to design. These modernist designers,
trained at the BauhausSchool, felt strongly that beauty in design was not a consequence of
ornamentation or decoration but could result directly from design principles such as form, colour
and texture. As previous design sought to adhere to traditional values, reforming to modern
progression became desired became a desired trait in design.
The Bauhaus School, founded in Germany by architect Walter Gropius in 1919, was initially a
school of Arts and Crafts. The Arts and Crafts movement, associated with rich ornamentation and
exotic materials sought to unite artists and craftspeople to ensure the survival of beautiful
craftsmanship post industrialisation. Gropius wanted to take this further by engaging technology in
this process. However, at a time of political turmoil and economic hardship excessive design

Textual Analysis Of Girl
Girl Shifts Your Perspective in More Ways Than One
Girl provides a brief glimpse into the daily life of a homeless woman.
Almost every film you ll ever watch in your life will be shot with a similar aspect ratio, with the
frame being around twice as long as it is tall. With minor variances due to wide screen or
cinemascope or a particularly bold director, the vast majority of films will use nearly the same
aspect ratio, and after seeing that setup in film after film year after year, it just feels comfortable
now. Our televisions are set designed for this aspect ratio. Out computer monitors. Our portable
gaming devices screens. Even our phones are designed with this ratio in mind.. Which is what
makes the fact that Megan K. Fox s Girl employs the exact opposite aspect ratio, one where the
frame is twice as tall as it is wide, impossible to miss. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the film progresses, it becomes clear that this feeling is intentional, forcing the viewer feel
what the Girl, a homeless woman who feels trapped in her situation, is feeling. The aspect ratio,
coupled with the fact that the Girl is framed in the same way in nearly every shot throughout the
film, creates the feeling that no matter how far into the film the viewer is, or whatever setting the
Girl is placed into, she is ultimately in the same spot. The choice to use such a unique aspect ratio
is incredibly bold, but ultimately serves perfectly to create the feeling that the film aims to create in

Sustainability Analysis And Reporting System Essay
1.Introduction
Corporate sustainability is the capacity of a business to operate for long term by creating
shareholder value and managing risks derived from economic, environmental and social
developments. For this purpose, companies need an appropriate system for the evaluation and
measurement of their own performance towards stakeholders and for the communication of results
achieved. According to Perrini Tencati (2006), a company can creates value if it adopts managerial
approach based on sustainability. It means that a company should not only consider and creates
relationship with its shareholders, employees and clients but also creates relationship with
suppliers, local communities, authorities and civil societies.
After 15 years of research activities in the field of economic, social and environmental sustainability,
an integrated approach is derived that aims to aggregate different management tools like social
reporting, environmental reporting and key performance indicators in to a comprehensive model,
called sustainability evaluation and reporting system (SERS). The purpose of Sustainability
Reporting system is to check and report overall corporate performance and to build a true and fair
view of business situation. For this reason, set of integrated performance indicators are used to get
the information needs coming from different stakeholders group. There is a limitation of
sustainability reporting that different companies use different indicators to measure

Ancient Romans And The Roman Empire
The Roman Empire was a very intelligent civilization, they were responsible for many astounding
creations. They were very well known because of their outstanding contributions to Architecture,
like many immense buildings, canals, and entertainment centers, and several of them are still
standing today.
We can look around our modern cities and compare today s architecture to that of the ancient
Romans. The Roman civilization is known for its Imperial powers during the long reign in the
ancient world. Some will remember ancient Rome as a barbaric society, because of modern
idealization of gladiators and the Colosseum. However, Rome is no longer the powerful city, instead,
what we can see in this new world is the immense influence of ancient Roman architecture in many
of today s structures.
The Romans built many successful structures in their name as they greatly influenced the time in
which they were constructed. Some of the most recognized and appreciated innovations were the
aqueduct, the dome, and the invention of concrete. There are many reasons why the buildings were
so accepted, mainly because of their unique successful techniques, and reliable materials.
To start the Romans were a very developed society. Possibly one of most amazing structures was the
aqueduct. The Romans built aqueducts to bring water to many towns and industries. The city of
Rome had the largest concentration of water pipelines with 11 aqueducts built over five centuries,

The Human Development Index ( Hdi )
Throughout the history of civilization, poverty has remained an unfortunate characteristic of
society contributing to restrained development. This trend became a prominent characteristic
during the medieval age in Europe as the feudal system created strong autocrats who treated the
poor with scorn and disrespect, and now it is has continued into today s society (Davis). One of the
most notable locations of this trend is Haiti. With staggering poverty rates and deplorable health
standards, Haiti has the lowest development rate in the Western Hemisphere (The Haitian People).
Haiti s development is verified by its Human Development Index (HDI). Established by the United
Nations, a world organization dedicated to the development and safety of the world s countries,
an HDI is a value ranging from zero in less developed nations and one in more developed nations
that measures several statistics directly related to poverty including life expectancy at birth,
national education rates, and gross national income (2015 Human Development Report).
Although not an exact measure of poverty, the HDI functions as a simplified representation of
poverty. Currently, Haiti has a concerningly low HDI of .483, and it is not growing quickly
(Human Development Reports). If Haiti is to raise its HDI and decrease its poverty, they must
settle on a solution. Because the HDI is so closely related to poverty, and it is much more focused
and simplified, it is more logical and more efficient for Haiti to

The Themes Of Loneliness, By Francheska Gatpayat
A dusty pile of magazines could be found stacked inside Francheska Gatpayat s house. But she hasn
t got any interest reading fitness articles. Neither she wants to read about the current trends in
clothing. Instead, she would browse these magazines for pictures and cut them out.
Also known as Ches, the 22 year old BA Art Studies student from the University of the Philippines
Diliman loves slashing magazines. Gatpayat would separate collage worthy pictures from those not
and then would start gluing her selected images meticulously in a piece of hard paper. Aside from
her promoting traditional collage making, she has since used this as an avenue for self expression.
And the central theme of her works? Loneliness.
As a kid, Gatpayat felt lonely due to her parents being absent even if they were physically there.
She said her would father leave for work early morning while her mother would leave at night. In
school, I had friends, but at the end of the day, I m not with them, Gatpayat said in Filipino. ... Show

The Stephen Glass Film
Before watching the movie, I knew about the Stephen Glass case but I did not know detailed
events that led up to his Glass s case being exposed. In my opinion, the movie did a great job as
far as casting. The actors in the movie understood their roles and played it well although there were
some moments that could have been done differently. In my opinion, there were some parts in the
filmthat could have been dramatize and much more intense because the situation and seriousness of
what was occurring called for it.
To begin, the casting of the film was well thought out. The characters played their parts well
especially the main characters Stephen Glass played by Hayden Christensen, Chuck Lane
played by Peter Sarsgaard, and Caitlin Avey played by Chloe Sevigny. Christensen embodied Glass
s persona so well that it almost seemed like he was actually Glass. He was charming towards his
coworkers and persuasive as well. These characteristic of Glass was essential and needed to be seen

The main problem I had with the film was the lack of intensity and seriousness when addressing
Glass about his false stories. For example, there was a scene where chuck took Glass to a
building he made up in one of his stories. In the moment Chuck asks Glass several times to
confirm if the building was real and Glass confirms that the building was just his imagination
and creativity. In this particular scene, I felt like Chuck should have been livid. Nevertheless,
chuck did seem angry but not to the extreme. Another scene that could have been exaggerated a
bit more was when Chuck started to take down all of the stories Glass wrote. At this point in the
film, Chuck began to realize the abundance of lies that was printed and published. If I was the
head editor reading the lies published in my papers, I would have been furious but Lane was calm
and poised for the most part. He basically took down each magazine and read each

Figure 7: Scatter Plot showing corelation between expenditure length of stay
Both figures 6 and 7 emphasise a strong correlation coefficient between expenditure and length
of stay (0.91) which entails a positive linear relationship between the 2 variables. This implies
that expenditure will increase accordingly as length of stay also rises. Other variables such as
age and people have a lower correlation and hence a weaker relationship. It would be wise for
DGHG to encourage people to stay for longer to increase their expenditure.

Impact Of The British On Indian Business Culture
Global managers, and especially the Managing Director of JI (India), have to face several
challenges. These challenges are not clearly defined and different types of challenges, who typify
diverse cultural, political social systems, arise from a complex and dynamic world. Cross cultural
Leadership , Ethical Leadership, and Change Leadership had been identified as the most relevant
ones concerning the case study.
In terms of increasing globalisation, there is the need and necessity for managers to be aware and
more importantly to understand different cultures and hence to be successful in world of high
cultural connection. Culture demonstrates shared values and attitudes. It cannot be only classified
by its geographical boundaries but also by a subcultural, e.g. gender, ethnic and an organisational
context and is influenced by historical, social and political issues (Cavusgil, Knight and
Riesenberger, 2008). The impact of the British on the Indian business culture is reflected in the well
educated Indian bureaucracy and the fact that English is taught in schools. However, cultural
differences shouldn t be neglected. In this point managers should consider in which degree natural
culture contrast or is integrated in organisational culture and its impact on the previously mentioned
challenges.

leadership, overall cultural differences can be compared, especially in this

Shallow Encoding Essay
The brain only stores meaningful information because:
The brain memorization process is very complex. Known as engrams, the brain encodes the
experiences by strengthening the connections between groups of participant neurons (Schacter,
1996). Once formed, engrams vegetate until familiar signals bring them back into memory. There
are two types of encodings: shallow and elaborative. Used on a daily basis, the brain practices
shallow encoding to store short term memory. An example, in classroom practices of shallow
encoding, is the homework page and exercises assigned. On the other hand, long term memory
storage happens thru elaborative encoding by creating associations and connections with prior
knowledge. For instance, in a classroom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
The short story, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button , written in 1922 by author F. Scott
Fitzgerald, does a very good job at showing its audience, the genius loci of Baltimore, Maryland
without utilizing many physical descriptions pertaining to the setting. The text instead focuses on
social and personal factors that shape a community in order to create the persona behind genius loci.
The first type of description of the setting s genius loci is given to us in the second paragraph of the
story. In this, the author uses the following sentence They were related to the This Family, and the
That Family, which as every Southerner knew, entitled them to membership in that enormous
peerage which largely populated the Confederacy as a way of showing the close relationships
encountered between people of the community. This tightknit community that the author depicts,
gives Fitzgerald much room to develop the other plots that provide evidence as to the city s genius
loci. Moreover it provides the setting with a sense of bonding, where everyone knows each other
and isolation is almost non existent. This is also proven by the fact that although Roger Button
desires and tries to keep his son s condition quiet, it is not long before the entire community is aware
of his condition. Another great example where the author uses the community as a way to describe
the setting comes from the overarching theme of reputation within its members. Despite previously
stating how the members of

Many online websites have increased advertising directed at children. Print advertisements, online
advertisements and television commercials can have an adverse effect on children s behavior and
development through the exposure to negative options, as well as children having the need to
possess material things they see in the advertisements. Children are negatively affected by
advertisements because of the inability to understand the reason and the inclusion of violence and
unhealthy food options.
Children s Understanding of Advertisements
Advertisements and commercials are geared towards children now more than ever and the
promoters of the products express exactly what the children want to hear. Although young children
do not understand the meaning of commercials and advertising, these advertisements are very
persuasive and encourage children to seek out the product, whether good or bad, that is being
advertised. Young children are unable to differentiate information that is portrayed to them that may
be biased, like information in a commercial on

Physiology Of A Sheep Animals
Physiology of a Sheep
Sheep, formally referred to as Ovis aries, are a domesticated animal normally used for wool, milk,
and meat. They normally live on farms in open plains and are kept as livestock. Sheep are naturally
independent from birth but like to be surrounded by their flock, a group of sheep. Also, they are
herbivores that spend most of their time grazing and ruminating. The anatomy and physiology of a
sheep allow the animal to function and to follow their instincts, along with providing product for
the textile, meat, and dairy industry.
The anatomy of sheep differs mainly from that of a human. However, there are some areas of a
sheep s bone structure that resemble different parts of a human s bone structure. For example,
the hock on a sheep is equivalent to an ankle on a human. The hock being higher up on the leg
compared to the ankle shows that sheep evolved to have their leg joints and bones to extend
upward. Also, the pastern is anatomically homologous to the joints at the end of a human s finger.
The pastern benefits a sheep by being able to disperse the force from the leg when a sheep steps
down or when the sheep s elbow and knee are locked. Lastly, the anatomy of the stifle joint is
similar to that of a human knee with both being made up of the femur, tibia, and patella. The stifle
joint is a hinge joint, allowing the stifle joint to move in two directions, which helps with moving
around along with muscle movement. Even though the anatomy of a human and a

Race, Gender And Premarital Sex
This research examines the relationship between race, gender and premarital sex; furthermore it
looks at the factors that cause individuals to participate in premarital sex. Guttmacher Institute
reported that over 95% of the American public has engaged sexual intercourse before getting
married, and even most Americans born before the 1940 s engaged in this practice as well
(Regnerus and Uecker 2001). Even though it is not something new, it is now being considered
less taboo. Trends in premarital sex have continually been shifting; we as a nation seem to be
opening ourselves up to the idea of sex before marriage, and passing it off as normal (Martin,
Martin, Martin 2001). Even though many people might have engaged in premarital sex, their

These findings show that race and gender have an impact on how one views premarital sex. One
limitation to this research was that there was no question in the GSS that had asked how many
people actually had premarital sex; it would have been interesting to comparing what people
thoughts about the issue, to their very actions on the issue.
Premarital sex has been practiced even before the 1940 s, so it is not a new topic, but then again
it is. Even though many people were engaging in this act, their thoughts and actions did not
always match up. At the fear of not being socially correct, people would often consider
premarital sex in a negative manner. However, as we can see, trends have been shifting over the
years in how people view sex before marriage; it is much more acceptable to talk about and people
no longer have feel obligated to hide their

Use Of Macabre Atmosphere In The Masque Of The Red Death
Edgar Allan Poe created a macabre atmosphere in the short story The Masque of the Red Death that
can be seen throughout the entire plot of the story. The story centers around the Red Death, a
devastating disease that causes sharp pains, dizziness, and then profuse bleeding from the pores.
This is the basis of the plot in the story, through which Edgar Allan Poecreates a macabre
atmosphere. This in turn strengthens the theme of the story, which is that no one, no matter how
hard they try, cannot escape death. In The Masque of the Red Death, the Red Death has long
affected the fictional country in which the story takes place. As mentioned before, the Red Death
causes it s victims to die quickly and quite gruesomely. Despite this, Prince Prospero decides to
lock himself and some guests in his palace where they would party, while the disease was still
spreading throughout the rest of the land. The palace has seven rooms, each the room a different
color with matching stained glass windows, except for the seventh room. The seventh room... Show

This is why despite trying as hard as Prince Prospero and his friends could to avoid the Red
Death, which is symbolic of death, in the end they ending up dying. What makes the message
even stronger is that Poe sets up the macabre atmosphere of the story when talking about the Red
Death, No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was its Avatar and its seal the
redness and the horror of blood... The scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face of
the victim... . This story is a perfect example of macabre since Poe centers the story around this
deadly and gruesome disease known as the Red Death. Even though the Red Death may be
symbolic of death, it s the deadliness and gruesomeness of the disease that strengths the theme of
the story, no matter how hard someone may try, no one can escape

2000 Us Presidential Election Essay
Introduction
The US Presidential Election of 2000 featured George W. Bush and Al Gore. It will go down in
history as one of the most closest electionsВЎВ¦ in US history. It also goes down as one of the most
controversial. The final decision was based on just a few hundred votes in Florida. The controversy
began when the media prematurely declared the winner twice based solely on exit polls. They
finally conceded that the Florida count was just too close to predict. It would take a month before
the election was ultimately certified after numerous court challenges and vote recounts. Republican
candidate George W. Bushwas declared the winner of the FloridaВЎВ¦s 25 electoral votes. This

As in the past, the media was covering the all important election. They had always relied on exit
polls as the polls closed across the nation. In reality, the Florida results were just too close to call.
Nevertheless, that did not stop the media from doing so. Not once, but twice, major news media
outlets were erroneous in their report. Around 8pm, it was declared that Al Gore was the
projected winner of the electoral votes in the state of Florida. However, a couple of hours later,
the projection was retracted and restated as Florida as being too close to call. Then, just after
2am on November 8, the mistake was made for a second time. The major networks declared
George W. as the winner. This even led to Al Gore calling the Governor to concede. However, as
Gore prepared to address his supporters in Nashville, Tennessee, he was alert to the shrinking
numbers in BushВЎВ¦s lead. The final total was now less than one half of a percent lead in favor
of Bush. That immediately calls for a recount of votes under state law. Subsequently, Gore called
Bush and retracted his concession. It wasnВЎВ¦t over yet! One thing was, Al Gore had prevailed in
the popular vote but without FloridaВЎВ¦s tally, the electoral vote was up in the air. The election
wasnВЎВ¦t over and the recounts began.

Analysis Of The Movie Saving Private Ryan
1. What is the true subject or the theme of the film, and What kind of statement, if any, does the
film make about the subject? Which elements and which themes contributed most to addressing the
theme of the film?
There are many themes throughout the film Saving Private Ryan, but one of the biggest is the
theme of sacrifice and we are introduced to this theme very early on in the film when we see the
Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. We see the sacrifice that the soldiers of World War
ll gave up to protect the freedom of the united states for their generation and future generations. we
see this theme again In the scene in back to back scenes when Private Caparzo is killed by the
sniper in the towers when he is trying to help the family with children, it s seen again in the next
scene in the church when Tom Hankss character Captain Miller is reflecting on the lose of
Caparzo, he speaks about how he deals with the lose of a man in his command. He does not

The Rio GrandeВґs Controversial Situation
The Rio Grande
Many people think that having a river near their city can always be good as they can make a
good usage of the river, just like San Antonio made their river very profitable. What people never
think is what problems or controversies the river can create. Almost always a river may have its
advantages and disadvantages and it is no different with the Rio Grande. The Rio Grande is not as
profitable because two countries own the river. Instead if it was own by only one country then the
river would be more useful. The Rio Grande creates many problems between the United States and
Mexican Government, it is also very useful for both governments and for human beings, the water
itself has many issues, and should the water not be used anymore.
Many problems arise do to the Rio Grande between governments especially, between El Paso
and Ciudad Juarez. Although there have been several treaties concerning this river, one
government is never happy and always wants a bigger part of the river. Both governments
believe the river only belongs to one country, that is because they are greedy and just do not
want to share the water when they believe they should be the owner of all the river. For example,
in El Paso and Juarez the water should be split in half, but instead El Paso takes nearly all of the
water. Before, Juarez would get most of the water even though El Paso did get a great quantity. A
few years back El Paso decided to construct a path that would lead all the water to

Clifford The Ethics Of Belief Summary
What is Evidentialism? As evidentialism is a thesis about epistemic justification, it is a thesis
about what it takes for one to believe justifiably, or reasonably, in the sense thought to be necessary
for knowledge (Mittag). Now what does that mean in order for someone to believe in something,
they must see the real proof have hardcore evidence. One famous argument about evidentialism is
by William Kingdon Clifford, (born May 4, 1845, Exeter, Devon, England died March 3, 1879,
Madeira Islands, Portugal) British philosopher and mathematician. Although he was most famous
for his work as a mathematician, Clifford also wrote, The locus classicus for the ethics of belief
debate is, unsurprisingly, the essay that christened it. The Ethics of Belief was published, in a
journal called Contemporary Review. (Chingell)
As stated in his writing, The Ethics of Belief, W.F. Clifford tells a story of a ship captain a story
that has sparked many arguments across the world and made people question their beliefs. The
story is about a ship captain who has doubts that his ship is in perfect condition to sail, the ship
was in desperate need of many repairs, regardless of what the crew was telling him, he believes
that his doubts are silly since there is no evidence that states that the ship is unworthy. In order to
make himself feel better he convinces himself that the ship is in perfect condition. The crazy part is
that the ship captain genuinely believed that nothing was wrong with the

Nuclear Chemical And Physical Changes
Nuclear chemistry is the study of the chemical and physical changes in the nucleus of an atom.
The field of nuclear chemistry deals with radioactive elements such as radium, radon and the
whole actinides series and the equipment to deal with such elements; such as nuclear reactors.
However the subject itself varies because it deals with the scientific areas such as physics,
biology, geology and chemistry. Nuclear chemistry has help us discover more about the nucleus
and has provided advances in medicine, nuclear weapons and instruments to help scientists in
those fields. 1, 2 Nuclear chemistry focuses on creating electrical energy for power generation
and, in some cases, propel ships. This electrical energy generation comes from the nuclear reactors
in nuclear power plants. Nuclear reactors are built to start up and contain a nuclear chain reaction.
These nuclear chain reactions can come in two forms: linear chain reaction and a critical mass.
Both reactions are caused by nuclear fission; this is when then nuclei of certain isotopes are
bombarded with neutrons, causing them to split into smaller fragments of the nuclei: smaller
atoms, a staggering amount of energy and spare neutrons. Since neutrons have no charge, they can
pass through the energy fields of the electrons and protons. A linear chain reaction is a series of
nuclear fissions going in one straight line. In a linear chain reaction, some of the spare neutrons,
caused by fission, produced will hit other nuclei and

Environmental Factors In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
In one s everyday life, we are surrounded with environmental factors that could potentially shape
the aspects of our lives. These types of factors range anywhere from negative to positive on a broad
spectrum. For instance in Eugenia Collier s short story Marigolds , The main character Lizabeth, is
surrounded by an abundance of environmental factors, as she struggles with own internal conflictof
coming to terms that her reign of innocence is slowly fading away. As the story continues,
Lizabeth s environmental factors are exposed, and as a result of these factors, she commits certain
actions, in which she faces consequences for. The particular theme that is emitted from this short
narrative, is symbolic experiences that one may experience in life, have a probability of changing
aspects in our lives . This is tied in with main emphasize of exploring in the text how this particular
theme is exposed by the characters, setting, and the plot of the story.
During the course of the story, Marigolds are repetitively brought up in the dialogue, and the
thoughts of the characters. In fact, the title of the story is Marigolds , but what might be the
significance behind the title? Well for starters the main purpose of the title is a play on the
symbolism that Marigolds represent, which includes passion, creativity, cruelty, grief, and jealousy.
This type of symbolism is then incorporated in the main characters Lizabeth and Ms.Lottie s
persona throughout the text. Evidence to support this claim is in the text it states, For some
perverse reason, we children hated those Marigolds. They infuriated with the perfect ugliness of
the place; they were too beautiful; they said too much; they did not make sense(Collier, Eugenia).
As displayed in the quote the traits reflected upon Lizabeth s persona was jealousy. This is stated
because in the quote Lizabeth rambles about the negative aspects of the marigolds and does not
name one positive attribute, this is practical behavior that is associated with jealousy. The last
piece of evidence to support the significance behind the title is in the text it states The old black
witch woman worked on them all summer, every summer, down on her creaky knees, weeding

Observation Of Students At A Seventh Grade Math Classroom
Observation of Student While observing the students in my classroom, I focused on how
engaging and motivated they were. The eighth graders at Pine Forest did not have a good
seventh grade math teacher, so the students are very behind. They know that they are behind
because Mrs. McLamb tells them all the time. Instead of it discouraging them, it motivated the
students to want to learn. They know that they must catch up, so I saw the students trying their
best to stay focused and be engaged. I noticed while observing that a majority of the class was
engaged. I honestly was not expecting this in a math class at 7:30 in the morning. The first day I
got there, one student said they had the best math scores in the entire county. So, Mrs. McLamb
pulled the up the previous test scores and showed them they were third. I could tell the kids did
not want to be third and wanted to be first. They found a reason to learn, and I think that is very
important. I did notice that students were not taking notes. I found this odd because it was obvious
that they wanted to learn but they never took any notes. One of my days of observing, I got to
observe a seventh grademath classroom. I was curious to see what the seventh grades are learningto
ensure that they are not behind like the current eighth graders. The teacher was making sure the
students learned what they need to know to be ready for eighth grade. The class I observed was a

Machiavellian Monarchies of the 15the Century To be Machiavellian means to follow the

Improving The Data Warehouse Technology Essay
There is currently a very strong need for a defined and standardized process to request work
related to the data warehouse. Not only does the work requests need to be standardized the
development methodology needs to be defined with an agile approach fitting best with the
direction and culture of the company. By clearly defining steps to both of these things the
efficiency of the team will be greatly improved. They should be able to complete more projects
as well as improve the quality of the products they are producing. With less mistakes and errors
and more work being completed the return on investment for the data warehouse technology will
be greatly increased. These changes could also drive a change in the culture of the company to
become more data driven. If there was confidence in the data warehouse and the reporting coming
from it as well as trust between the business departments and the data team this could drive
improvement across the company. Discovering opportunities for improvement using data is the
currently unrealized goal of the data warehouse. All improvements and changes and improvements
outlines in this document have that goal in mind. 2BUSINESS NEED AND CURRENT

Native American Technological Advancements
Were Native American cultures primitive and have little technological advancement?
A common belief about Native Americans is that their culture is primitive and that they had little
technological advancements. Images of spear wielding men with feathers on their heads, running
around in the forest pop into your mind when thinking about Native Americans. Images of women
with tribal paint on their face, holding a basket of corn pop into your mind when thinking about
Native Americans. When learning about the settlement of the Americas, the Europeans are portrayed
superior in knowledge and technology compared to the savages that lived there. Through history we
see Native Americans as primitive and technologically inferior; this was because of the Europeans
quick succession in conquering them with medieval/Asian technology. Native Americans lived in
huts slightly below the ground surface. These huts ...were covered with thatch... on their walls and
roofs. This is a prime example on their primitive lifestyle and how they used the environment
around them to support them. Native American s lifestyle would not function properly if things
such as long grass, for thatches, didn t grow around them. The Europeans, upon arrival to the

The Boston Massacre was an important event in U.S. history, that lead to the American
Revolution. This event brought attention to the unfair ways the British soldiers were treating the
colonists. The British were treating the colonists unfairly by taxing them and using their homes for

colonist was a farmer with horses they would also take the horses. I will talk about the famous
lawyer John Adams and other events that happened in the Boston Massacre. On the evening of

Ghosts in any form are far more prominent in Kingston s life than in ours. Perhaps this is because
there are fantastic elements to the stories she tells, but it is difficult for we readers to separate
fantasy and reality and we confuse the two. In some cases such as with Brave Orchid s Sitting
Ghost , it never really becomes clear.
The primary meaning of the word ghost in the work is, of course, American or white person .
White person might seem more attractive because of the idea of paleness that we associate with
ghosts, but there are Mexican ghosts and Negro ghosts so American is more accurate. This is
supported by the idea that those Chinese born in America are considered ghosts: They would not
tell us children because we had been born among ghosts, were taught by ghosts, and were
ourselves ghost like. They called us a kind of ghost. Ghosts are noisy and full of air; they talk
during meals. They talk about everything (183 84). Even one generation makes this difference. The

Effectiveness of Narcotics Anonymous for Adolescents
Drug addiction can be a powerful and complex situation for some individuals to gain control of.
Research and health professionals have historically shown that 12 step programs provide the tools
and healthy social networks that are immensely beneficial to achieving sobriety. However, prior
studies have largely focused on these programs effectiveness for adults, whereas younger
populations are also seeking treatment for drug addiction. This longitudinal study will have only
adolescent participants to enhance the minimal research that has been done on this population. It is
relevant to social work because the results of this study will help social workers to better
understand that Narcotics Anonymous may be more effective for some adolescents, namely those
with many positive social supports as compared to those with few positive social supports.

  • 2. Prohibition Essay Prohibition The 18th amendment, known as prohibition, had America in fits when it was ratified in 1919. The government was hoping to achieve a healthier, efficient society with good morals and a break for women from receiving beatings from drunken husbands. Although the motives behind prohibition were reasonable, it was so corrupted from the beginning that it never could have successfully been carried out. America became a lawless period, and many Americans felt that if they could get away with ignoring one law, then they did not have to follow any others (Axelrod 239). However, it may have been necessary for the progression of America for it accomplished a great many other feats other than sobering up citizens. Women fought actively for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it was not only Americans who were feeling the sting of prohibition. Foreigners, especially Germans, were angry at the movement, feeling that they were being discriminated against for how they lived (Kyvig). Alcohol was, at first, relief from stress for men, but soon became a part of society as a whole. Alcohol was a big factor in determining your social status and offered many men and women legal jobs to support themselves and their families. It was cheaper than other drinks, such as coffee or tea, and it was safer to drink than unpasteurized milk or impure water, so it was the ideal drink, some elderly citizens needed alcohol for medical reasons (Kyvig). Nevertheless, this did not stop the ratification of the 18th amendment. When government embraced prohibition, what was taken for granted became lost. Women being submissive towards men, men holding down a secure job, and the economic boom of the Roaring Twenties all came to pass when alcohol was prohibited. Although considered by some an advantage, others saw how women used their newfound freedom as offensive. Flappers an alcohol became and almost indistinguishable couple. Although it gave women a chance to show their knowledge and class, temperance was thrown out the window (Lerner 176). As well as women breaking free, jobs were being broken off, throwing men and women into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Bauhaus Of Bauhaus School The Bauhaus School merged fine arts with applied arts and industrial production to change the way in which graphic and industrial designers approached ideas of ornamentation, beauty and functionality. With his manifesto; The final goal of all artistic activity is architecture Bauhaus founder, Gropius, focused primarily on functionality, rejecting the extravagance of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Political, social and economic factors all influenced the new egalitarian or utopian approach to design, which embraced the machine aesthetic of the first quarter of the 20th century and resulted in a socialist or democratised approach to design. These modernist designers, trained at the BauhausSchool, felt strongly that beauty in design was not a consequence of ornamentation or decoration but could result directly from design principles such as form, colour and texture. As previous design sought to adhere to traditional values, reforming to modern progression became desired became a desired trait in design. The Bauhaus School, founded in Germany by architect Walter Gropius in 1919, was initially a school of Arts and Crafts. The Arts and Crafts movement, associated with rich ornamentation and exotic materials sought to unite artists and craftspeople to ensure the survival of beautiful craftsmanship post industrialisation. Gropius wanted to take this further by engaging technology in this process. However, at a time of political turmoil and economic hardship excessive design ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Textual Analysis Of Girl Girl Shifts Your Perspective in More Ways Than One Girl provides a brief glimpse into the daily life of a homeless woman. Almost every film you ll ever watch in your life will be shot with a similar aspect ratio, with the frame being around twice as long as it is tall. With minor variances due to wide screen or cinemascope or a particularly bold director, the vast majority of films will use nearly the same aspect ratio, and after seeing that setup in film after film year after year, it just feels comfortable now. Our televisions are set designed for this aspect ratio. Out computer monitors. Our portable gaming devices screens. Even our phones are designed with this ratio in mind.. Which is what makes the fact that Megan K. Fox s Girl employs the exact opposite aspect ratio, one where the frame is twice as tall as it is wide, impossible to miss. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the film progresses, it becomes clear that this feeling is intentional, forcing the viewer feel what the Girl, a homeless woman who feels trapped in her situation, is feeling. The aspect ratio, coupled with the fact that the Girl is framed in the same way in nearly every shot throughout the film, creates the feeling that no matter how far into the film the viewer is, or whatever setting the Girl is placed into, she is ultimately in the same spot. The choice to use such a unique aspect ratio is incredibly bold, but ultimately serves perfectly to create the feeling that the film aims to create in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Ancient Romans And The Roman Empire The Roman Empire was a very intelligent civilization, they were responsible for many astounding creations. They were very well known because of their outstanding contributions to Architecture, like many immense buildings, canals, and entertainment centers, and several of them are still standing today. We can look around our modern cities and compare today s architecture to that of the ancient Romans. The Roman civilization is known for its Imperial powers during the long reign in the ancient world. Some will remember ancient Rome as a barbaric society, because of modern idealization of gladiators and the Colosseum. However, Rome is no longer the powerful city, instead, what we can see in this new world is the immense influence of ancient Roman architecture in many of today s structures. The Romans built many successful structures in their name as they greatly influenced the time in which they were constructed. Some of the most recognized and appreciated innovations were the aqueduct, the dome, and the invention of concrete. There are many reasons why the buildings were so accepted, mainly because of their unique successful techniques, and reliable materials. To start the Romans were a very developed society. • 7. The Human Development Index ( Hdi ) Throughout the history of civilization, poverty has remained an unfortunate characteristic of society contributing to restrained development. This trend became a prominent characteristic during the medieval age in Europe as the feudal system created strong autocrats who treated the poor with scorn and disrespect, and now it is has continued into today s society (Davis). One of the most notable locations of this trend is Haiti. With staggering poverty rates and deplorable health standards, Haiti has the lowest development rate in the Western Hemisphere (The Haitian People). Haiti s development is verified by its Human Development Index (HDI). Established by the United Nations, a world organization dedicated to the development and safety of the world s countries, an HDI is a value ranging from zero in less developed nations and one in more developed nations that measures several statistics directly related to poverty including life expectancy at birth, national education rates, and gross national income (2015 Human Development Report). Although not an exact measure of poverty, the HDI functions as a simplified representation of poverty. Currently, Haiti has a concerningly low HDI of .483, and it is not growing quickly (Human Development Reports). If Haiti is to raise its HDI and decrease its poverty, they must settle on a solution. • 19. The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button The short story, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button , written in 1922 by author F. Scott Fitzgerald, does a very good job at showing its audience, the genius loci of Baltimore, Maryland without utilizing many physical descriptions pertaining to the setting. The text instead focuses on social and personal factors that shape a community in order to create the persona behind genius loci. The first type of description of the setting s genius loci is given to us in the second paragraph of the story. In this, the author uses the following sentence They were related to the This Family, and the That Family, which as every Southerner knew, entitled them to membership in that enormous peerage which largely populated the Confederacy as a way of showing the close relationships encountered between people of the community. This tightknit community that the author depicts, gives Fitzgerald much room to develop the other plots that provide evidence as to the city s genius loci. Moreover it provides the setting with a sense of bonding, where everyone knows each other and isolation is almost non existent. This is also proven by the fact that although Roger Button desires and tries to keep his son s condition quiet, it is not long before the entire community is aware of his condition. Another great example where the author uses the community as a way to describe the setting comes from the overarching theme of reputation within its members. Despite previously stating how the members of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They normally live on farms in open plains and are kept as livestock. Sheep are naturally independent from birth but like to be surrounded by their flock, a group of sheep. Also, they are herbivores that spend most of their time grazing and ruminating. The anatomy and physiology of a sheep allow the animal to function and to follow their instincts, along with providing product for the textile, meat, and dairy industry. The anatomy of sheep differs mainly from that of a human. However, there are some areas of a sheep s bone structure that resemble different parts of a human s bone structure. For example, the hock on a sheep is equivalent to an ankle on a human. The hock being higher up on the leg compared to the ankle shows that sheep evolved to have their leg joints and bones to extend upward. Also, the pastern is anatomically homologous to the joints at the end of a human s finger. The pastern benefits a sheep by being able to disperse the force from the leg when a sheep steps down or when the sheep s elbow and knee are locked. Lastly, the anatomy of the stifle joint is similar to that of a human knee with both being made up of the femur, tibia, and patella. Many problems arise do to the Rio Grande between governments especially, between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez. Although there have been several treaties concerning this river, one government is never happy and always wants a bigger part of the river. Both governments believe the river only belongs to one country, that is because they are greedy and just do not want to share the water when they believe they should be the owner of all the river. For example, in El Paso and Juarez the water should be split in half, but instead El Paso takes nearly all of the water. Before, Juarez would get most of the water even though El Paso did get a great quantity. A few years back El Paso decided to construct a path that would lead all the water to ... • 30. Clifford The Ethics Of Belief Summary What is Evidentialism? As evidentialism is a thesis about epistemic justification, it is a thesis about what it takes for one to believe justifiably, or reasonably, in the sense thought to be necessary for knowledge (Mittag). Now what does that mean in order for someone to believe in something, they must see the real proof have hardcore evidence. One famous argument about evidentialism is by William Kingdon Clifford, (born May 4, 1845, Exeter, Devon, England died March 3, 1879, Madeira Islands, Portugal) British philosopher and mathematician. Although he was most famous for his work as a mathematician, Clifford also wrote, The locus classicus for the ethics of belief debate is, unsurprisingly, the essay that christened it. The Ethics of Belief was published, in a journal called Contemporary Review. (Chingell) As stated in his writing, The Ethics of Belief, W.F. Clifford tells a story of a ship captain a story that has sparked many arguments across the world and made people question their beliefs. The story is about a ship captain who has doubts that his ship is in perfect condition to sail, the ship was in desperate need of many repairs, regardless of what the crew was telling him, he believes that his doubts are silly since there is no evidence that states that the ship is unworthy. In order to make himself feel better he convinces himself that the ship is in perfect condition. The crazy part is that the ship captain genuinely believed that nothing was wrong with the ... The field of nuclear chemistry deals with radioactive elements such as radium, radon and the whole actinides series and the equipment to deal with such elements; such as nuclear reactors. However the subject itself varies because it deals with the scientific areas such as physics, biology, geology and chemistry. Nuclear chemistry has help us discover more about the nucleus and has provided advances in medicine, nuclear weapons and instruments to help scientists in those fields. 1, 2 Nuclear chemistry focuses on creating electrical energy for power generation and, in some cases, propel ships. This electrical energy generation comes from the nuclear reactors in nuclear power plants. Nuclear reactors are built to start up and contain a nuclear chain reaction. These nuclear chain reactions can come in two forms: linear chain reaction and a critical mass. Both reactions are caused by nuclear fission; this is when then nuclei of certain isotopes are bombarded with neutrons, causing them to split into smaller fragments of the nuclei: smaller atoms, a staggering amount of energy and spare neutrons. Since neutrons have no charge, they can pass through the energy fields of the electrons and protons. A linear chain reaction is a series of nuclear fissions going in one straight line. In a linear chain reaction, some of the spare neutrons, caused by fission, produced will hit other nuclei and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These types of factors range anywhere from negative to positive on a broad spectrum. For instance in Eugenia Collier s short story Marigolds , The main character Lizabeth, is surrounded by an abundance of environmental factors, as she struggles with own internal conflictof coming to terms that her reign of innocence is slowly fading away. As the story continues, Lizabeth s environmental factors are exposed, and as a result of these factors, she commits certain actions, in which she faces consequences for. The particular theme that is emitted from this short narrative, is symbolic experiences that one may experience in life, have a probability of changing aspects in our lives . This is tied in with main emphasize of exploring in the text how this particular theme is exposed by the characters, setting, and the plot of the story. During the course of the story, Marigolds are repetitively brought up in the dialogue, and the thoughts of the characters. In fact, the title of the story is Marigolds , but what might be the significance behind the title? Well for starters the main purpose of the title is a play on the symbolism that Marigolds represent, which includes passion, creativity, cruelty, grief, and jealousy. This type of symbolism is then incorporated in the main characters Lizabeth and Ms.Lottie s persona throughout the text. Evidence to support this claim is in the text it states, For some perverse reason, we children hated those Marigolds. They infuriated with the perfect ugliness of the place; they were too beautiful; they said too much; they did not make sense(Collier, Eugenia). As displayed in the quote the traits reflected upon Lizabeth s persona was jealousy. This is stated because in the quote Lizabeth rambles about the negative aspects of the marigolds and does not name one positive attribute, this is practical behavior that is associated with jealousy. The last piece of evidence to support the significance behind the title is in the text it states The old black witch woman worked on them all summer, every summer, down on her creaky knees, weeding cultivating and ... • 36. Observation Of Students At A Seventh Grade Math Classroom Observation of Student While observing the students in my classroom, I focused on how engaging and motivated they were. The eighth graders at Pine Forest did not have a good seventh grade math teacher, so the students are very behind. They know that they are behind because Mrs. McLamb tells them all the time. Instead of it discouraging them, it motivated the students to want to learn. They know that they must catch up, so I saw the students trying their best to stay focused and be engaged. I noticed while observing that a majority of the class was engaged. I honestly was not expecting this in a math class at 7:30 in the morning. The first day I got there, one student said they had the best math scores in the entire county. So, Mrs. McLamb pulled the up the previous test scores and showed them they were third. I could tell the kids did not want to be third and wanted to be first. They found a reason to learn, and I think that is very important. I did notice that students were not taking notes. I found this odd because it was obvious that they wanted to learn but they never took any notes. One of my days of observing, I got to observe a seventh grademath classroom. I was curious to see what the seventh grades are learningto ensure that they are not behind like the current eighth graders. The teacher was making sure the students learned what they need to know to be ready for eighth grade. The class I observed was a group of AIG students. Like the eighth grade students, ... These were principles such as being feared by the people, using military to gain power and diplomacy. Additionally that virtues and vices are only a means to an end. I agree with the statement that the 15th century kingdoms of Europe such as England, France were Machiavellian in action. The monarch in the 15th century under Henry VII, a Machiavellian King established the Tudor dynasty in England. He used war to take control at the end of the War of Roses. Not only does the work requests need to be standardized the development methodology needs to be defined with an agile approach fitting best with the direction and culture of the company. By clearly defining steps to both of these things the efficiency of the team will be greatly improved. • 39. Native American Technological Advancements Were Native American cultures primitive and have little technological advancement? A common belief about Native Americans is that their culture is primitive and that they had little technological advancements. Images of spear wielding men with feathers on their heads, running around in the forest pop into your mind when thinking about Native Americans. Images of women with tribal paint on their face, holding a basket of corn pop into your mind when thinking about Native Americans. When learning about the settlement of the Americas, the Europeans are portrayed superior in knowledge and technology compared to the savages that lived there. Through history we see Native Americans as primitive and technologically inferior; this was because of the Europeans quick succession in conquering them with medieval/Asian technology. Native Americans lived in huts slightly below the ground surface. These huts ...were covered with thatch... on their walls and roofs. This is a prime example on their primitive lifestyle and how they used the environment around them to support them. • 40. Essay The Boston Massacre and the American Revolution The Boston Massacre was an important event in U.S. history, that lead to the American Revolution. This event brought attention to the unfair ways the British soldiers were treating the colonists. The British were treating the colonists unfairly by taxing them and using their homes for shelter and food. They used them for food by making them make meals for them to eat and if the colonist was a farmer with horses they would also take the horses. I will talk about the famous lawyer John Adams and other events that happened in the Boston Massacre. On the evening of March 5, 1770, a group of kids came up to a British soldier. The soldier was alone so the kids thought that he would be an easy target to pick on. The kids approached the soldier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you don t know who Captain Preston is, he is the captain of the group of soldiers. Some people say that he was the one that told the soldiers to fire. It even shows him raising his hand to fire in Paul Revere s engraving. It is not certain that, this is what happened because there is no other proof but the engraving. From what I have heard Captain Preston was telling the soldiers not to fire. Before the Boston Massacre s name became common it was called The Bloody Massacre on King Street. This name is on the famous Paul Revere engraving. In the early 1800s it was also called the State Street Massacre. If you don t know what a massacre is, it is a massive killing. Even though the Boston Massacre wasn t a massive killing it was still called a massacre, because it was a big deal. Paul Revere is the man who made the famous engraving. It is not certain that he was at the massacre, but some think that he was. I think that he was there, because if he wasn t there then how did he make the engraving. Perhaps this is because there are fantastic elements to the stories she tells, but it is difficult for we readers to separate fantasy and reality and we confuse the two. In some cases such as with Brave Orchid s Sitting Ghost , it never really becomes clear. The primary meaning of the word ghost in the work is, of course, American or white person . White person might seem more attractive because of the idea of paleness that we associate with ghosts, but there are Mexican ghosts and Negro ghosts so American is more accurate. This is supported by the idea that those Chinese born in America are considered ghosts: They would not tell us children because we had been born among ghosts, were taught by ghosts, and were ourselves ghost like. They called us a kind of ghost. Ghosts are noisy and full of air; they talk during meals. They talk about everything (183 84). Even one generation makes this difference. The Correlation Between The Number Of Positive Social Essay Abstract This proposal aims to explore the correlation between the number of positive social supports that adolescents between 15 and 18 years old have and their success in achieving sobriety when attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Participants will be recruited through an availability sampling method and asked to participatent in this longitudinal research study. As a result, this study will expand on the minimal literature concerning how to best help adolescents that are seeking treatment from drug addiction. Great Effectiveness of Narcotics Anonymous for Adolescents Drug addiction can be a powerful and complex situation for some individuals to gain control of. Research and health professionals have historically shown that 12 step programs provide the tools and healthy social networks that are immensely beneficial to achieving sobriety. However, prior studies have largely focused on these programs effectiveness for adults, whereas younger populations are also seeking treatment for drug addiction. This longitudinal study will have only adolescent participants to enhance the minimal research that has been done on this population. It is relevant to social work because the results of this study will help social workers to better understand that Narcotics Anonymous may be more effective for some adolescents, namely those with many positive social supports as compared to those with few positive social supports.
