Study Hall Advantages
Study Hall, not an hallway where you study.Implanting study hall at Von as an elective would
bring benefits to students and teachers. Some ranging from less pressure on students to more
engagement with teachers. However, not everything is perfect, so study hall does has its
disadvantages like a blow of class . Then again, study hall is versatile; its not going to mean the
same for every student. Its easier to assume rather than understand students because they re human
after all. No matter what class you take, stress happens in some way or form, the solution ? Study
Hall. At times, classes can become overbearing, especially if it s an honor or an AP class. Looking

The term lunch period means a break from academics for students to do whatever that pleases
them. According to a teacher, lunch is more versatile to students because there s nothing expected
of them. As a result, Studying isn t a students main priority at lunch. It would just be a waste of
time because student s won t be working. This then brings up the idea of working in the library and
college career center, that it would be more of a social hour mean more talking less working.
Looking at another teacher interview, working in either location would be a waste of time because
there would be more downtime than work. As a result, both locations wouldn t be utilized probably.
Going back to the survey, 54.1% of students do not utilize Vons homework cafГ©/tutoring services.
If students aren t going to utilize current tutoring resources, what makes you think that they ll
utilize their lunch? At the same time, there isn t much time during lunch to study. Some students go
to their lockers, sit down and eat, or whatever they do for the first 10 20 minutes of lunch. In fact,
the survey shows that students spend 2 or more hours on homework. This being said, students
would get nothing or barely anything done during lunch because time seems to be the enemy.
Ultimately, a student s lunch period cannot be substituted for study hall because it would cause
unnecessary chaos, theres homework cafe for a

Delivery Of Punishment In Australia
Delivery of Punishment
Jordan T. Sharp
Charles Sturt University
Word Count:
Australia s colonial beginnings can be described as a penal settlement where our population grew
due to the result of the punishment of offenders through transportation from England and Ireland.
Australia early penal settlements are described as brutal places for most convicts, for many.
Transportation was less onerous than the life of a pauper in the British Isles. In the early nineteenth
century there was a potential deterrent effect of an uncertain voyage and an indeterminate fate that
had been tempered by the system of assignment, tickets of leave and emancipation. However the
authorities in England believed this system gave to much liberty ... Show more content on

Were a man is sent to compulsory labour in the colonies he may become a reformed man but this
would usually only occur by an accident not a design. The chief interest of those for whom he
laboured was to get work out of him, not to amend his morals. (Hirst, 1983) However when NSW
settlement was established in the wake of the American revolutionary war, which had stopped the
practise of transporting British convicts to the different American colonies. There was a decision
made to send convicts to NSW which disappointed Bentham as he had seen the interruption to
transportation in 1776 as an opportunity for penal reform. With intellectual opinion turning against
transportation and now moving in favour of imprisonment and hard labour in as the punishment for

Combating Resistance to Organizational Change Essay
Combating Resistance to Organizational Change
By any objective measure, the amount of important, frequently distressing, change in
organizations has grown enormously over the last two decades (Kotter, 1996). Jeffrey M. Hiatt,
CEO of Prosci Inc., (as cited by Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly Konopaske, 2009, p. 481)
explained, thirty years ago, a foturne 100 probably had one or two enterprisewide change
intitiatives goiong on; today that number is proably between 20 and 25. The speed of global,
economic, and techological development makes change an ineveitable element of organiztional life.
Change is a pervasive, perisitent, and permenant condition for all organizations (Gibson, et al.,
2009). Organizational change means different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If organizations are to thrive and be sustaining, they need to respond to the dynamics of their
environment with change. However, change is not a singular event with an isolated focus (Spector,
2007). Effective strategic renewal is a combination of the three faces of change turnaround, which
targets costs; technology, which targets internal process; and behavioral, which targets employee
actions and interactions (Spector, 2007). In a discussion on change management, particularly
management by control versus management by shaping, Palmer, et al. (2009) draw a similar
conclusion that organizations and human systems are complex and evolving and therefore cannot
be reduced to a single, linear objective of maximizing shareholder value (p. 50).
Forces for Change
Despite some variations in change approach labels among academic research, it seems generally
accepted that forces for change are the catalyst for change itself. Gibson, et al. (2009) classified
forces for change into two groups; environmental and internal, and further described environmental
forces as those generally beyond management s control and internal forces generally within
management s control. These forces for change trigger an intervention or change process that can
take any of three approaches: structural, behavioral, or technological (Gibson, et al. 2009).
Similarly, Spector (2007) discussed change approaches as those of organizational turnarounds,
behavioral and

Analysis Of The Crucible And Half Hanged Mary
The Crucible and Half Hanged Mary were written and based off of the Salem Witch trials. The
Salem witch trials occurred in colonial Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693. More than 200
people were accused of practicing witchcraft and 20 were executed. Eventually, the colony
admitted the trials were a mistake and compensated the families of those convicted. This is
similar to today in that today, people are being accused of things they haven t done just because
they look a certain way or are similar to the people who actually did something bad. Being
falsely accused of something can send people into hysterics and send them into a downward
spiral. While both Atwood and Miller both seek to reveal the injustices incurred by the victims
of the Salem witch trials, Miller focuses on the effects of hysteria and religious zealotry on
society, while Atwood aims to commemorate the excruciating experience of a single victim. In
Half hanged Mary, the use of first person allows the reader to read the thoughts of the person
speaking or thinking and allows the connection between reader and character to grow. While in
the crucible, having the reader be told the story from the narrator s perspective allows the reader a
window to see into each and every character s thoughts. Miller wanted to show everything going on
from the thought of every character to what the character says. Miller writes, (laughing bitterly)...
(He turns suddenly toward a sound outside. He starts for the door as Mary

Literary Devices Used In The Canterbury Tales
In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer provides a look into the facets of the Catholic Church
during the Medieval times. By using a variety of characters, he shows that the church was
deceptive and fake. Chaucer s commentary ranges from situational irony and sarcasm. Using these
literary devices we can show how corrupt the church really is.
In The Prologue, chaucer shows that the church was deceptive using the characters, the nun and the
pardoner. The pardoner was deceptive because he would sell fake relics to the parsons to make
more money, an example of this is this quote from the prologue For in his bag he had a
pillowcase Of which he said, it was Our True Ladys veil:...In that one day gathered more money
Than the parson in two months, that easy.(695 706) Another character that comes off as deceptive
is the Nun, Chaucer writes about her in a way that makes it sound like he likes the Nun and thinks
she is all pure but in reality he is using sarcasm to mock her. An example of this sarcasm is She
was very pleasant, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was essentially their government and Chaucer wanted to point out all the flaws in it and how it
should be, rather than how it is right now. He simply wanted people to know how the clergy is
potentially doing more harm than good to people in their society. The clergy members in The
Prologue reveal that the Catholic Church was immoral and unprincipled for the most part,
everyone in the clergy had the intention of being good, however let their personal interests get
into their way. Whether it was greed or deception that got in the way, it affected their
effectiveness in society in some sort of way. However, Chaucer thought that the Parson is what
everyone in the clergy should strive to be, not only did he fulfill his role in society but he went
above and beyond and helped as many people as he could that were in

Corporal Punishment Is Wrong
Is corporal punishment wrong or is it a vital tool for disciplining our children which without our
society will ultimately continue to degrade its self and cause our fore fathers to roll over in their
graves? Corporal punishment with in reason is not abuse and should be considered a vital tool that
is not out dated and should be used widely and constantly through out the previous and upcoming
generations of man kind. Today with the mostly discontinued use of corporal punishmentand
generic discipline our children are becoming less disciplined, more disrespectful, and growing in
their boldness. Before I begin let me explain what corporal punishment is and the controversy that
has in sued in recent moths over it. Corporal punishment is the use of spanking, whipping that is not
abusive. Recently though people have been harboring a more hostile view of corporal punishment
regarding it as solely abuse at the slightest mention of spanking a child.... Show more content on

Mrs Helenne Alving And Ghosts
Plenty published by David Hare in 1978 and Ghosts published by Henrik Ibsen in 1881, might
have almost a gap of hundred years in publication, but they are both plays that attest the
intertemporal issue of society s pressure on the woman. In the notes of A Doll s house, in 1878,
Ibsen writes A woman cannot be herself in contemporary society, it is an exclusively male society
with laws drafted by men, and with counsel and judges who judge feminine conduct from the male
point of view. The femaleprotagonist in Ghosts, Mrs Helene Alving, has been influenced by the
society s need of forming womenthat are first, obedient daughters, then, obedient wives, dutiful
mothers, but in general, obedient individuals of that society s ideals, conventions and traditions. In
Plenty, the audience gets to examine years of Susan Traherne s life, from her World War II
activity as a courier in the French Renaissance to her emotional privation in the post Suez British
plenty . Even after the war, Susan cannot sustain a fulfilling life since the society s ideals and
conventions disharmonize with her own opinions and purpose. The common element between Mrs
Alving and Susan is that as women they are expected to fit into a certain role in the real life,
directed by the society itself, a life that diminishes their personal fulfilment.
To begin with, Ghosts is a play that does not solely examine the society s pressure on the women,
but the impact of society on every individual regardless of gender.

Analysis Of The Novel Mister Pip
In my opinion a novel has to capture the reader s attention in the first two pages and hold that same
attention throughout the whole journey for it to be a novel that is worthwhile reading. Lloyd Jones
literary style throughout the novel Mister Pip is captivating, compelling, grotesque and
enlightening all at once. Through the various personalities and explorations of each characterand
through back stories that unfold through flashbacks and story telling, Lloyd Jones lures the reader
into the story.
When readers express their fondness for a novel it is generally because the first few pages reel
them in and intrigues them to learn more about the story to come. Lloyd Jones opens the novel
with a detailed description of one of the main characters Mr Watts. By starting the book with
Everyone called him Pop Eye. (page 1) creates a mystery about who Mr Pop Eye and Mrs Pop
Eye could be and why they are so important to be the introduction to the novel, this gives the
impression that he is a major key character to the plot of this novel. It is also the introduction to
Bougainville and the time of place that the reader is taken to. We learn that Papua New Guinea
is rich with copper and that most of the men on the island have moved away from the villages to
work at the mine and the women and children are left to look after the village with the exception
of a couple of older men that would be able to do the more difficult jobs that women couldn t do

sally Undercoffler s Short Story Sally
Sally is a short story written in 1953 that talks about automatobile and how they can drive by
themselves. The setting takes place in a farm that is kind of a garage for these types of cars. This
story has lots of common with stories of driverless cars today. The story in Sally has come more
and more alive today. All of the stories today are as alike as Sally and Sally was written in 1953.
In the story Sally it talks about driverless car and how expensive they are. Of course, the
automatics were ten to a hundred times as expensive as the hand driven ones, (Asimov # 3)In the
article Look, Ma, no hands: Google to test 200 self driving cars It tells you how much this

Shaw completely changes his attitude towards the 54th Massachusetts regiment. He does not
loosen the reigns, instead he takes Sgt. Mulcahy s suggestion and trains them harshly. The next
training session was mainly focused on aiming and shooting guns quickly. Robert decides to
watch them practice shooting guns, but when they take their time to load their guns, he gets
upset. He chooses Private Jupiter Sharts to specifically watch. Pvt. Sharts states that he hunted
squirrels so his aim is up to par. Col. Shaw states that, a good man can fire three aimed shots in a
minute so when, Pvt. Sharts cannot deliver quick load and unload of his rifle within the minute,
Col. Shaw yells at him and shoots a gun in the air to show how fast he should be able to shoot.
After getting flustered by the pressure of Col. Shaw, Pvt. Sharts drops the gun. Col. Shaw was
also harsh on Private Trip. When Pvt. Trip disappears and is re discovered, he is sentenced to a
flogging punishment. Major Cabot Forbes, a close friend of Col. Shaw, tries to convince Robert
to change his mind about the flogging, because it would make them no better than their past
slaveowners. Colonel Robert Shaw ignores Maj. Forbes comment because he realizes he needs to
be tough on the regiment in order to prepare them for war. He tells Sergeant Mulcahy to proceed
with the flogging. But after the punishment, he soon realizes that Private Trip disappeared to go

The 6th Millennium BC Bandkeramik Culture
After the last ice age, the European continent was transformed as climate warmed and sea levels
rose. Increased rainfall and warmer temperatures allowed communities to depend more on plant
foods and exploit their surroundings. Communities took advantage of new resources and grew in
size and complexity as hunter gatherers became farmers. Farming spread into Europefrom
Southwest Asia. Both DNA analysis of European skeletal remains and domesticated plant and
animal species confirm that migration of farmers helped spread agricultureinto Europe. The first
farming settlements mainland were established around 6500BC in east central Greece on
settlement mounds. As populations outgrew the lowland basins, communities moved to adjacent

This complexity incorporated larger size communities with more structure, interregional

western Hungary is highly characterized by its pottery with banded intricate decoration and timber

pottery types as well. Rossen and Michelsberg in the west and Lengyel in the east. The
Trichterbecher culture is best known for their funnel necked beakers. Megalithic, or large stone,
monuments are another characteristic of the Neolithic transition. Stonehenge in southern Britain is
one of the most famous. Chambered tombs also became common containing the remains of
hundreds of people. The Carnac area in southern Brittany contains clusters of impressive
monuments including stone rows and adjacent burial mounds. Many axes that were found within
these mounds have been compared using spectroradiometric analysis and are tracked back to other
regions throughout the continent. Another prominent 6th millennium BC culture was that of the
Ertebolle Ellerbek in northern Germany. They were known for their pottery vessels of either
pointed base pots or oval bowls. Their culture demonstrated social complexity through their
cemeteries in which social ranking played a

Many of the musicians during the 1980s have maintained staying power and are still popular
today. Other artists enjoyed a modicum of success during the decade and they are not even
widely recognized today, save for the television programs that strive to reunite the bands and
give exposure to artists of the time. Following is some descriptions and explanations of the
bands and interests that helped to change the face of music in the 80s. MTV, or Music
Television, may have been the single most influential entity in music industry during the 1980s .
Premiering in 1981, MTV gave bands and artists greater exposure for their music in a greater
and more widely popular medium. The first video ever played on MTV was aptly titled Video
Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles. Duran Duran is one of the more popular 80s bands that
enjoyed the exposure that MTV gave them, too. Many experts have said that MTV is what made
Duran Duran one of the most popular bands to come out of the 1980s era. New Wave and
Synthpop was another genre of music that came about during this era. This form held on to many
of the attributes of the popular Punk Rock genre coming out of the 1970s, but it had different
characteristics. While the Punk Rock of the 1970s was a retaliation against the government and the
establishment, the New Wave and Synthpop forms were meant to be anti corporation in a more
experimental sense, both

Sadly, you cannot get rid of bed mites completely. This is impossible, they thrive in so many places

Your towels, carpets, furniture, if you have young children they live in their stuffed animals,
clothing and of course the bed.
This is the one place I struggle with, knowing they are in my bed at night.

Freedom, Without Qualification Is An Important Piece Of ``...
Freedom is such an important piece of Americana that everyone, inside or outside of the United
States, believes they know what the word means; yet when asked to define it, the word retreats
to the abstract nothingness of intangible shadows. Freedom s complicated nature becomes an
important topic when comparing the free and enslaved black women in three antebellum
narratives: Harriet Jacobs s Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Melton A. McLaurin s Celia, a
Slave, and Harriet E. Wilson s Our Nig. Freedom is obviously preferable to enslavement this fact is
indisputable. Millions of male and female slaves risked their lives to escape slavery; no free person
of color wanted to be enslaved. However, merely saying freedom without qualification is a
misnomer, for it is not a monolithic idea. The United States did not have a single group of free
people free Black women were (and still are) treated differently from White women. Thus, the
debate of whether free women of color and female slaves were more different than similar is a
question of whether slavery, which differentiated free women of color from female slaves, was
more pervasive than racism, which separated free women of color and White females. By
comparing externalist and internalist methods of understanding freedom namely, freedom from
violence and free will between White women, free women of color and enslaved women, this paper
concludes that racism trumped the differences created by slavery. The idea that

Westernization Of African Americans In The Colonial And...
An analysis of gender, class and westernization all combine together into multi layered
complications that Africans faced in the colonial and postcolonial period. These challenges come
from examples such as the slave trade and the break from colonial power to the political
complications that limit the development in the rest of the country. Westernization dismantled a lot
of social and political authority within Africaand created a new standard of class that favors those
who are affiliated with European heritage and its is still being embedded today. Gender plays into
this role as well as it can be used as a way to deprive one s dignity and status or can be a way to
show one s wealth. Westernization started when there was a stable and... Show more content on

The Worst Nightmare
Shivers I hear heavy breathing outside the closet door, so I think the monster knows I m here. I
guess I should catch you up. I ve been hiding in this closet for hours, and I m writing this in case
I don t make it out of here alive. Every night for the past 2 weeks I ve been hearing noises, and 3
nights ago I saw it. I woke up to the noises as usual, but instead of finding nothing there, I saw a
terribly gruesome figure. It seemed like it had been human at some point, but it were nothing
but a rotting carcass now. That kinda made me feel bad for it, pitied it in a way, because It was
deformed in such an agonizing way. In It must ve sensed my fear because it moved as if to
launch itself toward me, and in fact, I was absolutely petrified. I couldn t even move because of
fear paralysis, so I just laid there in horror as my worst nightmare came true. I shut my eyes real
quick, expecting to feel it s deformities on my body, but after a minute or so I didn t feel
anything, so I slowly crept open my eyes and I saw it, within inches of my face, just staring at
me. I could feel its hot breath on my neck, as I felt bile rising up in my throat. That thing I saw,
wasn t human anymore. It unhinged its mouth like a snake, swallowing my silver watch whole.
The worst part was that it wouldn t leave, it had me stuck in a paralyzed state for what seemed
like hours. Finally, it left. The largest grin was sprawled across its face, as it sunk into the
shadows. I was

Flight Descriptive Speech
Huge white smiles and warm handshakes is the kind of welcoming everyone receives as they board
a plane. From the flight attendant s smiles to the pilot s Welcome an automatic feeling of happiness
hits you. That feeling of happiness clearly lets you know you have boarded a plane. Stepping foot
onto the plane you are automatically greeted by warm smiles and handshakes. Both the flight
attendants and pilot s uniforms appear so clean and proper. As an attendant speaks, her voice is
almost considered annoying because of how screechy and preppy it sounds. Following the guy
in front of you, down the aisle, you feel like you re being towered over due to how tall he is.
Continuing slowly down the aisle your correct seat finally appears in front of you. You squat down
to pick up your bright bluehard shelled carry on suitcase to store in the overhead bin. Looking up
and putting your suitcase away you see it disappear as it falls gently back into the storage area.
You watch as various people around you slam their suitcases into their overhead bins and a loud
bang is sounded as the suitcase hits the back of the storage container. Looking down at your navy
blue leather seat you just know that seat will feel like sitting on a luxurious cloud. Grabbing the
silver part of the seat beltchills automatically run up your arms because that s just how cold the
inside of the airplane is. After everyone has boarded the plane has a slight sweaty disgusting smell

Antonio Lopez De Santa Anna And The Battle Of The Alamo
Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was born in Jalapa Veracruz Mexico, on February 21, 1794. He was
from a family of high social standing, as his parents were from Spain. He was a Mexican politician
and military leader who was President of Mexico eleven times from 1833 to 1855. He was a
disastrous president for Mexico, losing first Texas and then much of the current American west to
the United States. However, by far he was an important figure of his generation in the Mexican
history. He is remembered for two major conflicts, the Battle of the Alamo (1836) during the Texas
Revolution, and as a restored Mexican leader during the Mexican American War (1847).

SQ3R Questions Chapter 1
Analyze the first humans.
One of the first humans, or hominids, was discovered to be living in the eastern and southern
regions of Africa approximately three to four million years ago. They were named the
Australopithecines, which means southern ape men. These bipedal hominids developed basic stone
tools. Another kind of hominid known as the Homo habilis, or handy humans, was discovered in
Africa by Louis and Mary Leakey in 1959. The Homo habilis had a significantly larger brain than
the Australopithecines. Equipped with a more complex brain, these hominids were able to not only
walk upright, but also to gather various nutritionally beneficial foods such as seeds, nuts, and meats.

The land north of the Indus River was thought to have been unoccupied and segregated from the
growing civilization in the river valley to the south. But recent evidence proves otherwise; that
there was, in fact, a lost civilization located in the region north of the Indus River. Archaeologists

Caspian Sea to modern day Afghanistan. They have also discovered proof of writing, trade with
other civilizations, and the domestication of animals like sheep and goats to have occurred in the
area. These remains indicate a civilization dating back to approximately the third millennium
B.C.E. The founders of the civilization have not yet been discovered, but this mysterious society

The And Sexual Graffiti And Erotic Art
The information about brothels in Pompeii is much disputed. There is only one location, now
called the Lupanar or Purpose Built Brothel, which has been conclusively identified as a brothel.
Accepted indications of ancient brothels include sexual graffiti, erotic art, and small rooms with
stone beds. These indicators are found in more than 35 sites around Pompeii. Further research of
these sites reveals that many were actually bars, inns, and baths, as well as stalls on the street that
could easily have been shelters for the poor. Many historians hypothesize that sex was in fact sold
in these places, but since that was not their primary business, it is difficult to know for certain
whether these places were used for prostitution, and nearly impossible to identify them as brothels.
As the only known brothel, the Lupanar has been analyzed extensively. The graffiti and erotic art
provide a uniquely non elite view of prostitution and its relation to social status in the ancient
Roman world. The Lupanar is located just behind the Suburban Baths (VII, 12, 18 20), about two
blocks east of the forum (Beard 237; Levin Richardson 2004). The area surrounding it seems to be
rich with possibilities for prostitution, including two small cell like rooms, or cellae meritriciae, a
large hotel, a tavern, and the nearby Stabian Baths, but it appears to be the only purpose built
brothel in town (McGinn 15). The Lupanar is especially conspicuous for its alleyway entrance.

A Brief Note On Acute Renal Failure Condition Essay
1.Describe the pathophysiological changes that occur in acute renal failure. Acute renal failure
condition is diagnosed and retitled as acute kidney injury. The purpose of the change of terminology
was to encompass the full spectrum of the clinical manifestations associated with the syndrome.
This includes a range from a small decline in kidneyfunction to a severe impairment. Furthermore,
the acute condition is characterized by a rapid loss of kidney function. In addition, associated
manifestation(s) may be displayed as a rise in serum creatinine or a reduction in urine output. As a
result of increase of serum creatinine or decline in urine output may developed and aggress to the
clinical manifestation azotemia. However, acute kidney injury is complications are reversible.
Patients with life threatening conditions are more susceptible to developing this disorder. Acute
kidney injury is commonly developed after either chronic hypotension or hypovolemia or exposure
to a nephrotoxic agent. With increased levels of blood urea nitrogen(BUN), creatinine, and
potassium with or without a reduction in urine output develops acute kidney injury over hours or
days (Lewis, 2014, p. 1101 1102). High incidents of hospitalized patients develop AKI, one out of
five, and a high mortality rate. (Lewis, 2014, pp. 1101 1102)

Essay about Public Grazing Lands
The grazing of public lands has become a very controversial issue over the last couple of decades.
This is due to the fact that there are some people who believe that grazing the land is beneficial to
the wildlife and the different plant species there. Then there are other people who have the belief
that the grazingof livestockon public lands is detrimental to wildlife and plant health. Therefore,
they believe that it is actually doing more harm than good.
What are Public Grazing Lands? Public lands are properties that are not owned by private land
owners, but instead are owned by the federal government. Ranchers are given permits or leases to

Taylor Grazing Act The Taylor Grazing Act as passed in 1934 (Stimpert). According to Marc
Stimpert in, Counterpoint: opportunities lost and opportunities gained: separating truth from myth
in the western ranching debate , after the passage of the Taylor Grazing Act the Congress started
to use the Forest Service s system of allocating grazing lands. There were three purposes for
passing the act 1) to regulate occupancy of remaining public lands; 2) protect rangelands from
harm; and 3) to stabilize the livestock industry (Stimpert). The passage of the act gave power to the
Secretary of Interior to create grazing districts on public lands (Stimpert). The Taylor Grazing Act
also has the BLM regulate the occupancy and use of a grazing district. According to Stimpert, the
act balance the need to protect ranchers with the need to protect rangelands.

This article demonstrates that the CISG and Incoterms to some extent mutually supplement and

The Stereotypes Of Reality Television
What once started as every day, regular people appearing on television shows have now morphed
into celebrities and want to be celebrities competing for attention and doing almost anything to
receive it on primetime television. The genre of television, which was once jumpstarted by the
appeal of relatable people, who could be the viewers next door neighbors, being featured has since
disappeared and been replaced by a monstrosity that does not accurately portray reality and often
stereotypes people (Huff). One specific group that has been targeted by what reality televisionhas
morphed into is women. The new version of reality televisionis specifically adequate at
encouraging gender culture, the set of behaviors or practices associated with masculinity and
femininity (Huff). Reality television enforces gender roles and negatively impacts feminism in
today s society. Reality television sexualizes women, portrays them as dependent on and less
superior to men, and exemplifies them as dramatic, catty, and often only as homemakers. The
portrayal and stereotyping of women on reality television is demoralizing and can be described as
the contemporary backlash against feminism ( Reality TV ). These false and demeaning
stereotypes are prevailed in all types of reality television shows, making their impact extensive,
considering Americans spend one third of their spare time watching television and of that time sixty
seven percent is spent watching reality television ( Reality

`` Faking Nature `` By Robert Elliot
Authenticity holds intrinsic value. The process of destroying something to then later recreate it
removes its authenticity and in turn, its intrinsic value. In his essay, Faking Nature, Robert Elliot
argues that the recreation of natural landscapes after human destruction strips nature of its value.
Rather than disrupting and restoring landscapes, Elliot emphasizes the priority should be
preserving it. Elliot rejects the argument of the restoration thesis which is the claim that a recreation
of a destroyed entity has equal valueto the original entity. This is provided the restoration is
attainable and economically feasible. His argument is the value of the natural can never fully be
restored despite advances of technology utilized by engineers. Elliot defines natural as unmodified
by human activity (Elliot 80). Elliot acknowledges natural does not equate value nor is it inherently
better than non natural. Elliot uses the examples of disease and environmental disasters to show
that natural occurrences may not be good. There are cases where human involvement enhances
naturebut it is when the human disruption intends to replace a constitutionally good natural aspect
that reduction in the value occurs. The depreciation of this value stems from the necessity of its
genesis. It is an object s history, its origins, its story, and its continuity of the past that instills the
worth of nature (Elliot 83). The successor of the natural does not hold the same stature (as seen in

Neoconservative And Discrimination Against Gays And...
People may not notice little things that others do or say. Something as small as calling someone
gay because they identify themselves as homosexual, could emotionally traumatize them.
Examples of these issues are LGBTQ+ working in a labour intensive employment, and is treated
as weak or unfit for the position, thus being looked down upon. For centuries, people follow the
stereotype that people of a different gender or sexual identity are looked down upon and
considered outliers of the society. Our group will go in depth and demonstrate examples of
discrimination against LGBTQ+ in the workforce, by first analyzing the root of this problem. A
few questions that we will evaluating are: if people dislike LGBTQ+ in the workforce because
they are homosexuals, or because they are lacking in skill, education, experience etc. Second
question that ties with the root of the issue is to find out why majority of people discriminate
individuals that identify as LGBTQ+ homosexuals. Lastly, our group will be explaining
different point of views of this issue. We will be using a variety of frameworks that we have
learned in class such as viewing the social problem with a Neoliberal, Neoconservative and
transformative outlook to analyze the social problem. Topics that we can analyze using these
frameworks, include who is at fault or who is to blame within the social problem, how each
framework would try to resolve the social problem, and what are some things that each framework

Life In Concentration Camps In Night By Irene Wiesel And...
Life in Concentration Camps
The rise of Anti Semitism was affecting the Jews all over Europe. Jewish towns and
neighbourhoods were confined to ghettos starting in 1939. After living in ghettos for
approximately 2 years and under unbearable conditions, German soldiers rounded up Jews and
began to place them on trains. The experiences of Elie Wiesel and Irene Fogel Weiss are just two of
the millions of stories that exist. Their experiences in the concentration camps have many
similarities as well as many differences and not only has the Holocaust left physical scars but
psychological scars too, which Viktor Frankel has written a book about, being a psychologist and a
Holocaust survivor.
When looking at the experience of Elie Wiesel, a Jew born in Transylvania, and Irene Fogel
Weiss, a Jew born in Czechoslovakia, the two stories have many similarities and differences. The
book Night, written by Elie Wiesel illustrates his experience in the Holocaust, including his first
experience of family separation and being in a concentration camp. An article written about the
life of Irene Fogel Weiss gives a clear image of her life during the Holocaust, dealing with family
separation as well as the struggle to stay healthy enough to survive. Arbeit Macht Frei was a sign

Franchisees will also gain their experiences during the franchise period and the process to meet
franchisors requirements.
It is fair to highlight that franchising is a popular and successful mode for foreign market entry,
however there are a few potential drawbacks to this mode of entry. The drawbacks include:
decreased brand quality due to not having full control over franchises, not maximising profit as
franchisor only receives a royalty fee and not the full profit made, and the responsibility of
supporting and training a future competitor.
The franchising strategy is excellent for expansion. This recognition value of the brand helps to
attract possible partners, which want to benefit from a proven business concept, without having the
effort to seek after ones in potential target markets. There are 37,777 Subway restaurants in 100

This also is another example of Brooks employing directive leadership to reach a goal despite the

they were group of highly competitive and independent group of young men hwho identified with
their past institutions. Their locus of control was mainly internal and Brooks, with his concept of
a cohesive tem, dependent upon another and the coach for direction, gradually moving their locus
of control toward a more external variety, I play for team USA . He has imposed his will on the
team and he is now able to lead direct them completion of their common goal.
A third and clear example of directive leadership occurs during a session in the film room where he

Midnight Driver Themes
Notes From the Midnight Driver Review The headless gnome was no one s fault but Alex
Gregory, it was his parent s. Either way, if his father hadn t run off with his third grade teacher,
then his mother wouldn t be on a date and Alex wouldn t need to get drunk by himself, steal his
mother s car and crash it. As far as Alexis concerned, he shouldn t be punished for the damage, but
that s not how his mother, his lawyer and the juvenile court judge see it.
Notes from the Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnenblick features important literary elements that
illustrate the story greatly. Character development was a key consideration when the characters
were being formulated. The plot is also a crucial element of the novel. In addition to this, the
writing style presents an easy, quick read. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Colombia Geography
Did you know that Colombia is named after Christopher Columbus? He saw the coasts of what is
now Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama in 1492. He saw the beautiful landscape, and the amazing
diversity of the wildlife and plants. Colombia has maintained these amazing qualities to this day.
That is what makes it Colombia.
There are many landforms in Colombia, each fitting into ecosystems that are intricately unique. The
Amazon river is a habitat for animals (black caimans, piranhas, giant river otters, and pink dolphins)
that are part of the surrounding Amazon rainforest ecosystem. The Colombian landscape is
admittedly in many ways like other South American countries, but is nevertheless astonishing.
There are the Andes mountains, the Amazon rainforest, the grassland plains, and a small area of
desert. Some interesting landforms include the Andean Highlands, the Middle Magdalena Basin,
Mt. Ritacuba Blanco, the Cumbal volcano. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Plant Sets And Its Effect On Our Lives
Part A The results were conclusive and differed slightly from previously expectations with the
plants germinated with an absence of light growing on average 17.975 mm per day compared to
the plants with exposure to light growing 6.965 mm less at an average of 11.01 mm per day.
This trend was evident throughout the duration of the experiment however as the investigation
continued it was clear the growth of both plant sets was beginning to decrease and slow. As
shown in graph 2.0 and table 1.0 on day 15 the plants grown in the dark had reached a height of
175.9 mm and by day 17 they had only grown 1.475 mm and reached a height of 177.375 mm,
compared to the growth between day 8 and 9 when the plants grew by 44.375 mm, a 48%
increase, nearly doubling its height of 47.85 mm on day 8. The heights of both sets altered from
each other for most of the experiment expect for day 10 when the heights only altered by 0.891
mm with the plants in the dark having a average height of 108.125 mm while the plants with
light had reached a height of 108.944 mm. Part B The results of part B were also conclusive but
were as to be expected with both plant sets increasing in mass. The original mass of a individual
seed was 0.036 grams with the total mass being 0.3 grams. The plants in the dark had a 833.33%
increase with the individual weight being 0.3 grams while the plants grown with light exposure
individual mass of 0.4 grams and a 1111.11% increase. Meanwhile the total mass of the seeds

The Importance Of Female Characters In Disney Films
Children s animation has always been a specific genre that attracts a lot of attention due to the
affect its characters can have on young kids. Arguably the most popular children s animated films
franchise is the Disney Princess line, where about twelve female characters from these Disney
films serve as the main protagonist throughout their respective movies. Young girls around the
world obsess over the Disney Princesses as they remain highly popular due to frequent films and
merchandising. The Princesses who star in these films are seen as role models to these young
women, especially in American culture as they typically have redeemable qualities and make the
best out of troublesome situations. Although Disney films are especially popular in the United
States as well as worldwide, they are not as well favored in Japan. Japanese animated children s
films are beloved in their home country, specifically ones that feature a strong, pre teen female
protagonist. The Studio Ghiblifilm studio has many female roles in their animated films, and
audiences view these characters as more age appropriate to their target audience: female children
and pre teen girls. American audiences that are exposed to these Japanese films seem to agree that
the female characters are more realistic, more personable, and have better views and goals than
those of the Disney Princess franchise. Two films both released in 1989, Disney s The Little
Mermaidand Studio Ghibli s Kiki s Delivery Service both

and longevity in leisure industry organisations.

form an essential part of any organisation. The efficiency and quality of its people determines the
organisations fate. Choosing the right people and placing them in the right positions is vital. This is
where effective recruitment and selection is fundamental. This paper concludes that seven steps
should be taken to implement recruitment and selection policies and guidelines which help to
surpass performance results of the past. This paper analyses the gap of recruitment and selection of
experienced, skilled and self motivating employees for stability and longevity in leisure industry
organisations. In addition, this paper focuses on a selected organisation within the leisure industry
in Queensland Australia, City Venue Management (CVM).
Introduction:
People are an integral part of any organisation. No organisation can run without its human resources,
its greatest asset. In today s highly complex and competitive market, choosing the right person in
the right place has far reaching implications for an organisations functioning. According to (Noe,
Hollenbeck, Gerhart Wright 2015, Pg219), recruitment is the practice or activity carried on by the

Atticus Finch Role Model
Atticus is one of the major characters in To Kill a Mockingbird, and he appears in almost every
chapter. Atticus is the father of Jem and Scout and appears in every chapter. While some might
think Atticus is not a proper role model, he is a good role model because he treats everybody with
respect, he sees other races as equal, and he fights for equality. Atticus Finchtreats everyone with
respect, and this makes him a great role model. This is very evident when Atticus is questioning
Mayella during the trial, and she thinks that Atticus is mocking her because he calls her Miss
Mayella and Ma am . Judge Taylor intervenes to tell how that is just the way Atticus does his job,
and that, Mr. Finch is always courteous to everybody ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
she s a faithful member of this family (Lee 137). Atticus defends Cal and defines her as a
member of the family. Atticus clearly sees Calpurnia as equal, even when practically everyone
else does not. Atticus is standing up for what he believes is right even though others, even his
own sister, do not believe in the same values. Someone who stands up for what is right is a good
person who is worthy of looking up to and a great example to follow. When someone stands up
for what they believe is right, it is a great quality to have and a quality that everyone should have.
Nobody at the time saw blacks as equal, but Atticus still did and this makes him a great role
model because he stands up for what he believes in. Finally, Atticus is a good role model
because he fights for equality. While some might believe that Atticus does not fight for equality
because he could take on more cases, he does fight for equality because he is the only lawyer to
put his all into defending a black man. Every lawyer that was assigned a black man who was
falsely accused of charges in Maycomb simply let the man be convicted. They did not offer the
basic right of a lawyer in court that they deserved. However, when Atticus was assigned the role to
defend Tom Robinson, he saw that the man was innocent and decided to put all of his effort into
defending Tom. Atticus went

Michel Rolle Research Paper
Michel Rolle Michel Rolle was born on April 21, 1652, into a struggling family in Ambert,
Basse Auvergne (a province in France at the time). Rolle s father was a lowly shopkeeper and
couldn t support his family by himself. For this reason, Rolle left his educational aspirations
shortly after elementary school and began to help support his family. He began working as a
transcriber for a notary and then worked as an assistant to several attorneys in the district around
his home town. He did this while self educating himself in order to work towards a better life for
himself and his family. Rolle moved to Paris in 1675 and worked as a scribe and arithmetical
expert, which led to Rolle teaching himself higher level mathematics. Rolle wasted no time in
starting a family and ended up getting married and having kids shortly after moving to Paris

France, who arranged a pension for Rolle. Even after the stroke of good fortune for Rolle, he
was still in dire need for a stable job to support his growing family. Shortly after, he accepted a
job requiring him to tutor François Michel le Tellier s, the French Secretary of State for War,
fourth son. Rolle went above and beyond in this job and resulted in him being offered an
administrative post in the Ministry of War, but Rolle disliked the work and soon resigned. In
1685, Rolle was elected to the AcadГ©mie Royale des Sciences and the impressive mathematical

  • 2. Study Hall Advantages Study Hall, not an hallway where you study.Implanting study hall at Von as an elective would bring benefits to students and teachers. Some ranging from less pressure on students to more engagement with teachers. However, not everything is perfect, so study hall does has its disadvantages like a blow of class . Then again, study hall is versatile; its not going to mean the same for every student. Its easier to assume rather than understand students because they re human after all. No matter what class you take, stress happens in some way or form, the solution ? Study Hall. At times, classes can become overbearing, especially if it s an honor or an AP class. The term lunch period means a break from academics for students to do whatever that pleases them. According to a teacher, lunch is more versatile to students because there s nothing expected of them. As a result, Studying isn t a students main priority at lunch. It would just be a waste of time because student s won t be working. This then brings up the idea of working in the library and college career center, that it would be more of a social hour mean more talking less working. Looking at another teacher interview, working in either location would be a waste of time because there would be more downtime than work. As a result, both locations wouldn t be utilized probably. Going back to the survey, 54.1% of students do not utilize Vons homework cafГ©/tutoring services. If students aren t going to utilize current tutoring resources, what makes you think that they ll utilize their lunch? At the same time, there isn t much time during lunch to study. Some students go to their lockers, sit down and eat, or whatever they do for the first 10 20 minutes of lunch. In fact, the survey shows that students spend 2 or more hours on homework. This being said, students would get nothing or barely anything done during lunch because time seems to be the enemy. Ultimately, a student s lunch period cannot be substituted for study hall because it would cause unnecessary chaos, theres homework cafe for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Delivery Of Punishment In Australia Delivery of Punishment Jordan T. Sharp Charles Sturt University Word Count: Australia s colonial beginnings can be described as a penal settlement where our population grew due to the result of the punishment of offenders through transportation from England and Ireland. Australia early penal settlements are described as brutal places for most convicts, for many. Transportation was less onerous than the life of a pauper in the British Isles. In the early nineteenth century there was a potential deterrent effect of an uncertain voyage and an indeterminate fate that had been tempered by the system of assignment, tickets of leave and emancipation. However the authorities in England believed this system gave to much liberty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Were a man is sent to compulsory labour in the colonies he may become a reformed man but this would usually only occur by an accident not a design. The chief interest of those for whom he laboured was to get work out of him, not to amend his morals. (Hirst, 1983) However when NSW settlement was established in the wake of the American revolutionary war, which had stopped the practise of transporting British convicts to the different American colonies. There was a decision made to send convicts to NSW which disappointed Bentham as he had seen the interruption to transportation in 1776 as an opportunity for penal reform. • 4. Combating Resistance to Organizational Change Essay Combating Resistance to Organizational Change By any objective measure, the amount of important, frequently distressing, change in organizations has grown enormously over the last two decades (Kotter, 1996). Jeffrey M. Hiatt, CEO of Prosci Inc., (as cited by Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly Konopaske, 2009, p. 481) explained, thirty years ago, a foturne 100 probably had one or two enterprisewide change intitiatives goiong on; today that number is proably between 20 and 25. The speed of global, economic, and techological development makes change an ineveitable element of organiztional life. Change is a pervasive, perisitent, and permenant condition for all organizations (Gibson, et al., 2009). Organizational change means different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If organizations are to thrive and be sustaining, they need to respond to the dynamics of their environment with change. However, change is not a singular event with an isolated focus (Spector, 2007). Effective strategic renewal is a combination of the three faces of change turnaround, which targets costs; technology, which targets internal process; and behavioral, which targets employee actions and interactions (Spector, 2007). In a discussion on change management, particularly management by control versus management by shaping, Palmer, et al. (2009) draw a similar conclusion that organizations and human systems are complex and evolving and therefore cannot be reduced to a single, linear objective of maximizing shareholder value (p. 50). Forces for Change Despite some variations in change approach labels among academic research, it seems generally accepted that forces for change are the catalyst for change itself. Gibson, et al. (2009) classified forces for change into two groups; environmental and internal, and further described environmental forces as those generally beyond management s control and internal forces generally within management s control. These forces for change trigger an intervention or change process that can take any of three approaches: structural, behavioral, or technological (Gibson, et al. 2009). Similarly, Spector (2007) discussed change approaches as those of organizational turnarounds, behavioral and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Crucible And Half Hanged Mary The Crucible and Half Hanged Mary were written and based off of the Salem Witch trials. The Salem witch trials occurred in colonial Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693. More than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft and 20 were executed. Eventually, the colony admitted the trials were a mistake and compensated the families of those convicted. This is similar to today in that today, people are being accused of things they haven t done just because they look a certain way or are similar to the people who actually did something bad. Being falsely accused of something can send people into hysterics and send them into a downward spiral. While both Atwood and Miller both seek to reveal the injustices incurred by the victims of the Salem witch trials, Miller focuses on the effects of hysteria and religious zealotry on society, while Atwood aims to commemorate the excruciating experience of a single victim. In Half hanged Mary, the use of first person allows the reader to read the thoughts of the person speaking or thinking and allows the connection between reader and character to grow. While in the crucible, having the reader be told the story from the narrator s perspective allows the reader a window to see into each and every character s thoughts. Miller wanted to show everything going on from the thought of every character to what the character says. Miller writes, (laughing bitterly)... (He turns suddenly toward a sound outside. • 6. Literary Devices Used In The Canterbury Tales In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer provides a look into the facets of the Catholic Church during the Medieval times. By using a variety of characters, he shows that the church was deceptive and fake. Chaucer s commentary ranges from situational irony and sarcasm. Using these literary devices we can show how corrupt the church really is. In The Prologue, chaucer shows that the church was deceptive using the characters, the nun and the pardoner. The pardoner was deceptive because he would sell fake relics to the parsons to make more money, an example of this is this quote from the prologue For in his bag he had a pillowcase Of which he said, it was Our True Ladys veil:...In that one day gathered more money Than the parson in two months, that easy.(695 706) Another character that comes off as deceptive is the Nun, Chaucer writes about her in a way that makes it sound like he likes the Nun and thinks she is all pure but in reality he is using sarcasm to mock her. Whether it was greed or deception that got in the way, it affected their effectiveness in society in some sort of way. Corporal Punishment Is Wrong Is corporal punishment wrong or is it a vital tool for disciplining our children which without our society will ultimately continue to degrade its self and cause our fore fathers to roll over in their graves? Corporal punishment with in reason is not abuse and should be considered a vital tool that is not out dated and should be used widely and constantly through out the previous and upcoming generations of man kind. Today with the mostly discontinued use of corporal punishmentand generic discipline our children are becoming less disciplined, more disrespectful, and growing in their boldness. Before I begin let me explain what corporal punishment is and the controversy that has in sued in recent moths over it. Corporal punishment is the use of spanking, whipping that is not abusive. • 8. Mrs Helenne Alving And Ghosts Plenty published by David Hare in 1978 and Ghosts published by Henrik Ibsen in 1881, might have almost a gap of hundred years in publication, but they are both plays that attest the intertemporal issue of society s pressure on the woman. In the notes of A Doll s house, in 1878, Ibsen writes A woman cannot be herself in contemporary society, it is an exclusively male society with laws drafted by men, and with counsel and judges who judge feminine conduct from the male point of view. The femaleprotagonist in Ghosts, Mrs Helene Alving, has been influenced by the society s need of forming womenthat are first, obedient daughters, then, obedient wives, dutiful mothers, but in general, obedient individuals of that society s ideals, conventions and traditions. In Plenty, the audience gets to examine years of Susan Traherne s life, from her World War II activity as a courier in the French Renaissance to her emotional privation in the post Suez British plenty . Even after the war, Susan cannot sustain a fulfilling life since the society s ideals and conventions disharmonize with her own opinions and purpose. The common element between Mrs Alving and Susan is that as women they are expected to fit into a certain role in the real life, directed by the society itself, a life that diminishes their personal fulfilment. To begin with, Ghosts is a play that does not solely examine the society s pressure on the women, but the impact of society on every individual regardless of gender. ... • 9. Analysis Of The Novel Mister Pip In my opinion a novel has to capture the reader s attention in the first two pages and hold that same attention throughout the whole journey for it to be a novel that is worthwhile reading. Lloyd Jones literary style throughout the novel Mister Pip is captivating, compelling, grotesque and enlightening all at once. Through the various personalities and explorations of each characterand through back stories that unfold through flashbacks and story telling, Lloyd Jones lures the reader into the story. When readers express their fondness for a novel it is generally because the first few pages reel them in and intrigues them to learn more about the story to come. Lloyd Jones opens the novel with a detailed description of one of the main characters Mr Watts. By starting the book with Everyone called him Pop Eye. (page 1) creates a mystery about who Mr Pop Eye and Mrs Pop Eye could be and why they are so important to be the introduction to the novel, this gives the impression that he is a major key character to the plot of this novel. It is also the introduction to Bougainville and the time of place that the reader is taken to. We learn that Papua New Guinea is rich with copper and that most of the men on the island have moved away from the villages to work at the mine and the women and children are left to look after the village with the exception of a couple of older men that would be able to do the more difficult jobs that women couldn t do such as, Gilbert s father ... Increased rainfall and warmer temperatures allowed communities to depend more on plant foods and exploit their surroundings. Following is some descriptions and explanations of the bands and interests that helped to change the face of music in the 80s. MTV, or Music Television, may have been the single most influential entity in music industry during the 1980s . Premiering in 1981, MTV gave bands and artists greater exposure for their music in a greater and more widely popular medium. The first video ever played on MTV was aptly titled Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles. Duran Duran is one of the more popular 80s bands that enjoyed the exposure that MTV gave them, too. Many experts have said that MTV is what made Duran Duran one of the most popular bands to come out of the 1980s era. New Wave and Synthpop was another genre of music that came about during this era. This form held on to many of the attributes of the popular Punk Rock genre coming out of the 1970s, but it had different characteristics. • 19. Freedom, Without Qualification Is An Important Piece Of ``... Freedom is such an important piece of Americana that everyone, inside or outside of the United States, believes they know what the word means; yet when asked to define it, the word retreats to the abstract nothingness of intangible shadows. Freedom s complicated nature becomes an important topic when comparing the free and enslaved black women in three antebellum narratives: Harriet Jacobs s Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Melton A. McLaurin s Celia, a Slave, and Harriet E. Wilson s Our Nig. Freedom is obviously preferable to enslavement this fact is indisputable. Millions of male and female slaves risked their lives to escape slavery; no free person of color wanted to be enslaved. However, merely saying freedom without qualification is a misnomer, for it is not a monolithic idea. The United States did not have a single group of free people free Black women were (and still are) treated differently from White women. Thus, the debate of whether free women of color and female slaves were more different than similar is a question of whether slavery, which differentiated free women of color from female slaves, was more pervasive than racism, which separated free women of color and White females. By comparing externalist and internalist methods of understanding freedom namely, freedom from violence and free will between White women, free women of color and enslaved women, this paper concludes that racism trumped the differences created by slavery. An analysis of gender, class and westernization all combine together into multi layered complications that Africans faced in the colonial and postcolonial period. These challenges come from examples such as the slave trade and the break from colonial power to the political complications that limit the development in the rest of the country. Westernization dismantled a lot of social and political authority within Africaand created a new standard of class that favors those who are affiliated with European heritage and its is still being embedded today. • 27. The And Sexual Graffiti And Erotic Art The information about brothels in Pompeii is much disputed. There is only one location, now called the Lupanar or Purpose Built Brothel, which has been conclusively identified as a brothel. Accepted indications of ancient brothels include sexual graffiti, erotic art, and small rooms with stone beds. These indicators are found in more than 35 sites around Pompeii. Further research of these sites reveals that many were actually bars, inns, and baths, as well as stalls on the street that could easily have been shelters for the poor. Many historians hypothesize that sex was in fact sold in these places, but since that was not their primary business, it is difficult to know for certain whether these places were used for prostitution, and nearly impossible to identify them as brothels. As the only known brothel, the Lupanar has been analyzed extensively. The graffiti and erotic art provide a uniquely non elite view of prostitution and its relation to social status in the ancient Roman world. The Lupanar is located just behind the Suburban Baths (VII, 12, 18 20), about two blocks east of the forum (Beard 237; Levin Richardson 2004). The area surrounding it seems to be rich with possibilities for prostitution, including two small cell like rooms, or cellae meritriciae, a large hotel, a tavern, and the nearby Stabian Baths, but it appears to be the only purpose built brothel in town (McGinn 15). The process of destroying something to then later recreate it removes its authenticity and in turn, its intrinsic value. In his essay, Faking Nature, Robert Elliot argues that the recreation of natural landscapes after human destruction strips nature of its value. Rather than disrupting and restoring landscapes, Elliot emphasizes the priority should be preserving it. Elliot rejects the argument of the restoration thesis which is the claim that a recreation of a destroyed entity has equal valueto the original entity. This is provided the restoration is attainable and economically feasible. His argument is the value of the natural can never fully be restored despite advances of technology utilized by engineers. Elliot defines natural as unmodified by human activity (Elliot 80). Elliot acknowledges natural does not equate value nor is it inherently better than non natural. Elliot uses the examples of disease and environmental disasters to show that natural occurrences may not be good. There are cases where human involvement enhances naturebut it is when the human disruption intends to replace a constitutionally good natural aspect that reduction in the value occurs. The depreciation of this value stems from the necessity of its genesis.
