Feminism In Eve Ensler s Buffy The Vampire Slayer
In the spring of 1997 Buffy the Vampire Slayer debuted a show that addressed aspects of feminism
that were brought to life in society. This was around the same time the third wave of feminism began.
The wave started in the early 1990s and continues through present day and it is responding to the
failures of the second wave of feminism and also addressed the backlash that the second created.
Although there are many ideas from the second wave that they still used as a fighting tool to keep the
wave going. For example, the making domestic abuse shelters for women and children,
acknowledging the abuse of rape on women on public level, and legalizing the right to abortions and
many more organizations were created so that women and children would ... Show more content on

Magazine. Although it may have seemed like creating journals was a big deal in the third wave this
was less important. The effective ways of speaking out in the third weave came by feminists showed
their concerns through sexist images and symbols. A play that later turned to a book, The Vagina
Monologues, written by Eve Ensler explored women s feelings with sexuality that discussed vagina
centered topics, for example, orgasms, birth, and rape. The third wave redefined women and girls as
assertive, powerful, and in control of their own sexuality. The third wave, to an extent almost
unimaginable to the members of the first and second waves because some ideas had many facets with
people concerning their gender, ethnic, and class identities, experiences, and interests. The third
wavers sought to recalim and redefine the ideas that media placed ideas of womanhood, gender,
femininity, and masculinity. The third wave brought into existence the idea that gender is not based on
your traits you recieve at birth. Instead it is the idea that a person determines what their gender is
based on how they feel. Another important aspect of feminism in this wave was sex

1991 Sacramento Hostage Crisis
The United States had its largest hostage rescue operation in its entire history, during the 1991
Sacramento hostage crisis. Four Vietnamese men, aged between 17 and 21, with legally acquired
firearms purchased by the leader of the group, entered into a Good Guys! Electronics store with the
intention to hold hostages until the four gunmen would receive (as ransom) $4 million, four bullet
proof vests, a helicopter, and a 1,000 year old ginger plant (Gross, p. 10). The gunmen had told
negotiators and hostages that they were dissatisfied with their lives in the United States, frustrated by
the difficulty of finding jobs and eager to be movie stars during the televised hostage crisis (Gross, p.
8). These men wanted notoriety, and they wanted to return to their country of origin, Vietnam, using
the helicopter they demanded in the ransom. Despite threatening the hostages, shooting several of
them with the intent to injure them, and making wild ransom requests, the Vietnamese men made little
headway. After they realized their ransom offers were not going to be met, they pushed the negotiators
to give bulletproof vests in exchange for several women and children. After successfully delivering
one vest, ...(SED Sniper Jeff Boyes) had received permission to fire on any subject he could obtain a

There Is A Pain-So Utter, By Emily Dickinson
When people experience a tragedy, the pain that is felt by those affected can feel suffocating and
unending. In Emily Dickinson s poem, There is a pain so utter , the speaker describes this type of idea,
as he or she dramatizes this dread as an abyss that swallows up everything that comes near it. As she
describes this, the speaker says that it swallows substance up (2) and that it can drop people bone by
bone (8). The speaker then states that Memory can step around across upon it . (4, 5) This could
potentially describe the idea that while the speaker could be falling into the pit, that the person s mind
could become so traumatized that it dissociates itself from its body s harsh reality and will not be
swallowed up by the emptiness. The speaker presents a short, concise idea about this metaphor that
dread and misery can manifest itself into an abyss that can destroy everything and everyone in its path.

While the start of the poem seems like it should be in trochaic tetrameter, the speaker leaves off the
last stressed syllable. There is a pain so utter (1) contains the first seven syllables of the trochaic
tetrameter, but the second syllable of utter is unstressed. Ending the first line on an unstressed syllable,
especially when describing an immense pain, could describe the speaker giving up on life. Giving up
on fighting the fall into the pit. It could also represent uncertainty about how much the pain is
affecting the speaker that is subsequently answered in the next line. It swallows substance up (2) is
definitive. All eight syllables of the

Fossil Fuels Disadvantages
Fossil fuels have been the world s main energy source since they were discovered, however, they carry
harmful side effects such as pollution and climate change. Forms of alternative energy such as solar,
wind, and nuclear power are possible replacements of fossil fuel energy. Controversy surrounds both
fossil fuels and alternative forms of energy due to each energy form having consequences. Some
believe that alternative energy brings just as many disadvantages as fossil fuels, while others argue
that alternative energy is better for the environment and its population. While people have different
beliefs pertaining to alternative energy, both forms of energy have been used throughout history. Fossil
fuels are created from the remains of decayed animals and plants and then burned to make energy.
Coal, oil, and natural gas are examples of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels grew in popularity during the
Industrial Revolution when the first coal deposits were found (Mason). This discovery prompted a
new age of energy and eventually led to the use of oil, another fossil fuel. Fossil fuels continued to
grow and eventually became the world s main energy source, but burning fossil fuels gives off carbon
dioxide, a greenhouse gas that causes climate change. The climate change created by fossil fuels
produced the controversy that surrounds this form of energy. Another popular energy source is
alternative energy. Alternative energy is any form of energy besides fossil fuels, such as solar, wind,
and nuclear power. Similar to fossil fuels, ideas of alternative energy began during the Industrial
Revolution, however, these designs were not created until the 1950s (Mason). During the 1950s, the
renewable forms of alternative energy were the most popular, due to the realization that fossil fuel
sources would eventually be depleted. Today, research about alternative energy is still being done as
this energy source is also controversial. Alternative energy is said to be less reliable and even more
dangerous than fossil fuels. Although both alternative energy forms and fossil fuels are controversial,
they remain relevant in today s world because energy is necessary in people s daily lives. In support of
alternative energy is the

Education Of Cyrus Essay
The Education of Cyrus is Xenophon s account of the development and ascendency of Cyrus, a young
boy who soon become King of Persia, and also a depiction of Persia and her people. Aristotle s
Politics, on the other hand, is a philosophical work, aimed at dissecting the political life and
determining how human beings should organize themselves politically. Yet, at their core, both books
are respectfully critical of the political life. The following will assess two apparent paradoxes that
appear to plague the political life: 1) with respect to Cyrus, the balancing of the noble and the good
and 2) with respect to Aristotle, the struggle between broad political participation and a virtuous
government.
At the heart of the Education of Cyrus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The example on page 91 of the Politics can be applied to Persia. Cyrus, the most virtuous of all, ruled
Persia, which is something Aristotle would support: the most virtuous and best should rule. Yet, Cyrus
empire soon becomes a oligarchy as his sons take rule and solely value the goods, not the noble. This
fall from nobility and their dissension eventually led to cities and nations immediately [revolting] and
everything [taking] a turn for the worse (Xenophon 273). While the application of Aristotle s scenario
on page 91 does not perfectly fit this account, the revolting of the cities and nations can be viewed as
similar to the uprising of the multitude over the oligarchs. What is clear, however, is that the
abandonment of real, honest and true virtue in both cases leads to the ignoble and avaricious ruling
class falling at the hands of the discontent and downtrodden many.
What one can take away from both the implicit and explicit criticisms given by Xenophon and
Aristotle is that political life is incredibly messy and problematic and, moreover, the best regime, the
telos of political life, may not be unattainable. Both works indicate that virtue must be a main
component of the regime, yet it appears human beings have difficulty remaining virtuous in the face of
1) material wealth and 2) the allure of

attained vastly different levels of recognition in the United States. With men s basketball, thousands of
Americans tune in every year to watch the upsets and Final Four games, drooling over perennial

unknown underdogs like Butler University, Wichita State University, and Virginia Commonwealth

Sociology professor Michael Messner of the University of Southern California explains that the media
actively constructs audiences that are likely to see the men s Final Four as a dramatic, historic event
that they simply must watch, while fans are likely to see the women s Final Four as a nonevent or, at
best, as just another game of the Men s Final Four (Messner). Messner emphasizes the differences in
language, attention, and emotion in media coverage as the sources of different representations and
viewership. Professor Messner is not the only expert to contend that purposeful sexism and subtle
contrast in media representation are the causes of the inequality in coverage. Others assert that we
need more women on television, in the news, and in front of our young girls, arguing purposeful
disinterest in gender equality is the reason for lack of viewership in women s basketball

Gaining consent to record won t cover your transportation organization if you don t make it clear how
you will share and store audio files. Ideally, your company will advise all incoming callers either
through an automated IVR system or call center staff trained to answer each call with a script that
never varies. Financial considerations drive the decision to record, or not record telephone call traffic.
For one thing, the costs of winning a lawsuit can be almost as burdensome as losing a legal challenge.
Another key consideration is the impact an IVR may have on customer satisfaction and personalized
service. In the end, investing in integrated call capturing technology that complies with industry
standards and the laws for recording phone calls is a cost effective solution that limits liability and can
actually improve customer experiences and service if implemented correctly. ATIS call center

Essay about Google in China
Where is the company most vulnerable, from a communications standpoint? Google entered China in
2006 with high hopes of taking over the Chinese internet market. In order to become a major player
for internet search engines in China, however, they had buckled and filtered search results according
to the Chinese government. When Google.cn was launched, a loud public outcry over its giving in to
the Chinese government on censoring and filtering search engine results, the company faced a
communications crisis. Since Google had always been known for its free thinking, this seemed a vast
contradiction. From a communications standpoint, Google s greatest vulnerability in this crisis lay
with a tarnished public image. Since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Google s policy of self censorship in China did not sit well with the public or human rights
organizations. Though Google seemed to promote free thinking and free speech on one hand, they
were censoring and filtering with the other. Google lost credibility with the public, thus tarnishing its
public image and loosing 1% of the U.S. market in one month, as reported in The Business. (2006,
Aug) Image credibility is based on the constituency s perception of the organization (Argenti, 2009,
p.39). When the public image of a company has been compromised it can make a huge difference in
determining the success or failure of the organization (Argenti, 2009, p. 40). When the public looses
confidence in a company and what they stand for, they no longer wish to use its product. In response,
executives at Google attempted to convince the public that they could handle the balancing act
between censorship and providing information, and gain back public trust and confidence. Google s
greatest vulnerability in the ordeal with China was damage done to its reputation because we should,
as stated in the Bible, Earn a reputation for living well in God s eyes and the eyes of the people.

s genitals does not reflect the individuals gender include CAH and AIS. Congenital adrenal
hyperplasia happens when an individual s genetic make up is that of a female. However, during
prenatal development, which is the first most important process and healthy and normal individuals;
the syndrome causes the adrenal gland to go haywire and overproduce androgens due to a genetic
condition. Thus, the prenatal sexual differentiation is one that does not occur in the manner that it
normally would for a female. The overproduction of these androgens is directly connected to the fact
that the individual who is genetically born a female begins to grow

Analysis Of Black Diggers In The Longest Memory
The historical fiction novel the longest memory set in the 18th century depicts a character
Whitechapel , an elderly slave working at a plantation, in Virginia. Whitechapel, unlike other slaves is
treated with more respect from the white individuals in the novel and accepts the treatment inflicted
on him by the white men, stating that if he acts with respect then receive good treatment. However,
towards the ending of the novel it is prevalent that he desires for things to change following the death
of his beloved son Chapel . The black diggers in the play black diggers set in 1914 Australia, are
similarly treated in an inhumane manner by white men. The black diggers desire for change in this
area and therefore enlist to fight for Australian in the first world war. They long that when they will
return, the inhumane treatment they received will no longer be, however, they faced further scrutiny
by the white Australian society upon their return.
A strong desire for change is evident in both the texts, and as a result many characters in both Black
Diggers and the longest memory put their lives at risk. The black digger s main motivation to enlist to
fight for Australian in the war was to seek change in the way which the white Australian population
treated them. Whilst at war the indigenous Australians were treated as equals, the colour of their skin

The Neurobiological Factors Associated with Depression Essay
The Neurobiological Factors Associated with Depression Depression is a mood disorder that affects
approximately ten percent of men and nearly twenty five percent of women at least once in their
lifetime (1). There are several types of clinical depression, such as unipolar depression and bipolar
depression. Unipolar depression consists of primarily depressive states while bipolar depression
involves a fluctuation between states of depression and mania (2). Some of the most common
symptoms of depression include excessive feelings of sadness, guilt, or worthlessness, a significant
change in appetite, insomnia or hypersomnia, energy loss, thoughts or attempts of suicide, and
anhedonia (3), (4). While the symptoms of depression are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While some of the findings from these genetic studies are still preliminary, several investigations have
indicated that the role of certain neurotransmitters, called monoamines, in depression is immense (7).
Neurotransmitters are chemicals in the brain that bind to receptors in order to excite or inhibit the
firing of neurons (6). The Catecholamine Theory of Mood was proposed as a major explanation for
the cause of depression in the 1960s by Joseph Schildkraut (7). Schildkraut suggested that a deficiency
of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine at receptor sites caused depression while increased levels of
norepinephrine caused mania. Some evidence for Schildkraut s account was established by the success
rate of monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor drugs, which block the reuptake of monoamines and
facilitate the release of neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine and serotonin (8). Further evidence
has been established by studies that found decreased norepinephrine levels in the cerebrospinal fluid
of deceased depressed patients (5). More recently, drugs have been developed that selectively block
the reuptake of norepinephrine by the presynaptic cell. It has been found in preliminary studies that
the level of depression decreases in these patients, which provides further evidence for the role of
norepinephrine in depression. While empirical support for the Catecholamine Theory of Mood has
grown substantially, evidence from more recent studies highlights the

How To Solve The Cuban Missile Crisis
In 1959, Cuban nationalist, Fidel Castro, sent his army into Havana and usurped General Batista, the

Cuba. Unfortunately, the invasion failed, greatly outnumbered by Castro s troops, the invaders

deal with Cuba to handle any future invasions. The benefit to the Soviet s was to place their nuclear
missiles on Cuban soil which was just 90 miles from American shores.
Evidence of the missiles location and its owners being Soviet was quickly discovered by the U.S..
President Kennedy released a public announcement warning the American nation about the dangerous
weapons in Cuba. On the 14th of October, a U.S. U 2 aircraft captured photographs of the sites for

The Importance Of Advertising In Advertising
Advertising and marketing have existed long ago in time, but most likely in a different form
unfamiliar to us. Many years ago, sellers advertised by posting on the windows of shops, providing
free samples of food, and eventually by posting in newspapers and radio (O Barr, 2005). An intriguing
historic fact is that advertising was used to convince people to journey to the New World in the 1800s
(O Barr, 2005). Nowadays, with increased exposure to media through television, cell phones,
computers, and other electronic devices, marketing has become more advanced and ubiquitous.
According to the documentary, advertisements have consistently carried the standard of indoctrination,
or promotion. The documentary describes that there used to be a limited and cheap marketing culture
for children in the 1900s. After deregulation in the 1980s, the trend of promotion or indoctrination had
drastically grown throughout time as marketers found better ways to popularize their products,
services, and values.
In 2006, the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil implemented a law to prohibit public, outdoor advertisements.
Soon after, thousands of advertisements on highways, billboards, public transportation, and buildings
were removed, thus exposing the authenticity and natural essence of the city. Many local businesses
opposed this law and felt it would ruin their chance of garnering sales and consumers (Goodson,
2012). In fact, this law has influenced Beijing and several European towns to restrict

Guns Are Used For Self Defense
Guns are used for Self Defense less than 1% of the time Looking at data from 1992 through 2005 and
2007 through 2011, there were over 192 million violent crimes committed in the United States during
this 17 year period. Of those crimes, the victims chose to use a gun as a self defensive measure to
threaten or attack their offender over 1.3 million times. Over this 17 year time period, a gun was used
as a form of self defense to threaten or attack an offender 0.7% of the time. Of those 0.7% that used a
gun, 0.3% resulted in a justifiable homicide of the offender. The idea of using a gun for self defense is
a pervasive one. The often cited number is that Americans use a gun as a defensive or self protection
measure 2.2 to 2.5 million times per year (Kleck and Gertz, 1995). However, this number and other
high estimates have been scrutinized for their validity. The Cato Institute s report Tough Targets
(Cramer and Burnett, 2012), a pro gun study, even acknowledges that some studies exaggerate the use
of guns to the point of statistical impossibility. They also mention underreporting, including the
datasets used to produce the numbers you see here (their study produces no numerical rates of gun use
for self defense). If the 2.5 million number were true, that would mean close to 1 in 4 people would
have actively used a gun for a self defense. Does that seem plausible? Given the sampling techniques,
assumptions made, and weighting of the data, the numbers 0.7% and 0.3% are

Love In The Time Of Cholera Research Paper
Very few people understand and realize the real differences between cultures and how books tend to
portray them. Love in the Time of Cholera takes place along the coast of an unnamed city along the
Caribbean. The culture in this unnamed city is very strong and very existent. The author Gabriel
García Marquez focuses on a more urban society rather than a rural one in this book. García Márquez
shows less religion and more social detail in this book than in his earlier works ( Love ). In this book
he not only shows the cultural detail of Columbia but, also their everyday life but as well as some
common things in others lives who live in all different parts of the world. Although Love in the Time

The reader can plainly see the similarities between the two mainly by the way the characters act and
what they do on a daily basis. For instance, the title of the book Love in the Time of Cholera holds a
lot of culturalism itself. Mainly by the mentioning of the sickness of cholera that was very common
back then (Márquez 107). In chapter three of the book, Fermina s father thinks that she might have
cholera because of her like symptoms but ended up being just an intestinal infection (Márquez 118). It
is sad to think about but, this is what many families feared back then is for their children to die of

Reflection On The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night...
Everyone in life has someone that they cherish, take to heart and most importantly value The Curious
Incident of The Dog in The Night Time written by Mark Haddon in 2003, follows the journey of a
young boy who suffers from autism, Christopher and the struggles he faces to be independent in a
world that seems hostile and harsh to him. Inspired by Jane Austen s works, Mark Haddon wrote this
book as a medium to portray the innocence and naivety of childhood in an entertaining yet meaningful
way. Ultimately, he wanted to show and remind children about how fortunate they were without the
pain and difficulties of living with autism that plague children like Christopher. Written in the first
person narrative point of view, Haddon wanted us, his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. Christopher uses these items as tools to organize his way of thinking, when he uses the Monty Hall
problem to explain his perspective that of Mr. Shears has been wrong, moreover these puzzles, maps
and math problems serve as Christopher s primary means of achieving a sense of security. These items
keep coming back continually throughout The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time, but they
appear most often when Christopher encounters new information that has not fully been processed in
his mind, or when he experiences a particularly confusing or challenging event. When his thoughts
become jumbled in the train station in Swindon, for instance, Christopher thinks of the riddle to
visualise the soldiers that pass the time. He also uses maps to achieve his goals. He uses a map when
he searches the neighborhood for Wellington s murderer, and when he tries to find the train station in
Swindon (His home town), and yet again to find Mother s apartment when he arrives in London. In
essence, these different items provide Christopher with a strategy to follow when a problem involves
too many other things for him to reach a

The Effects of Antibiotics on Bacterial Growth
The Effects of Antibiotics on Bacterial Growth
Biology II 1996
Bacteria are the most common and ancient microorganisms on earth. Most bacteria are microscopic,
measuring 1 micron in length. However, colonies of bacteria grown in a laboratory petri dish can be
seen with the unaided eye.
There are many divisions and classifications of bacteria that assist in identifying them. The first two
types of bacteria are archaebacteria and eubacteria. Both groups have common ancestors dating to
more than 3 billion years ago. Archaebacteria live in environments where, because of the high
temperature, no other life can grow. These environments include hot springs and areas of volcanic
activity. They contain lipids but lack certain chemicals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This antibiotic acts by limiting normal protein synthesis.
Streptomycin is effective against E. Coli, gram negative bacilli, as well as many cocci.
Neomycin an antibiotic derived from a strain of Streptomyces fradiae.
Neomycin effectively destroys a wide range of bacteria.
Kanamycin an antibiotic substance derived from Streptomyces kanamycetius. Its antibacterial action
is very similar to that of neomycin. Kanamycin works against many aerobic gram positive and gram
negative bacteria, especially E. coli. Protracted use may result in auditory as well as other damages.
Erythromycin is an antibiotic produced by a strain of Streptomyces erythreaus. This antibiotic works
by inhibiting protein synthesis but not nucleic synthesis. Erythromycin has inhibitory effects on gram
negative cocci as well as some gram positive bacteria.
Chloramphenicol is a clinically useful antibiotic in combating serious infections caused by certain
bacteria in place of potentially hazardous means of solving the problem. In lab tests, it has been shown
that this medicine stopped bacterial reproduction in a wide range of both gram positive and gram
negative bacteria. The inhibition of cell reproduction caused by Chloramphenicol takes place through
interference with protein synthesis.
An experiment was conducted in order to determine which antibiotics are most effective in inhibiting
bacterial growth. First, the different bacteria were placed on agar

Interpretation By Summarizing. To Summarize Is To State
Interpretation by Summarizing
To summarize is to state the most important points. We might try to summarize the Bible. We might
try to summarize some scientific observations. We might try to summarize our experiences. We might
try to summarize this book.
Many of our statements are summaries. It would be nice if we could interpret our observations and
experiences by pure objective summarizing. It s very difficult though. Our worldviews get in the way.
Anytime we summarize, we leave out information that we consider minor. We only include
information that we consider the most important information. That makes it very easy to distort reality
into something that looks real but isn t real. There are several problems with summaries. These ...

During analysis, we tend to unconsciously add elements of the worldview and create an illusion. What
we ve built in our worldviews seems real. When we add unreal elements from our worldviews, we
think those unreal elements are real. Worldviews give that illusion. During analysis, we often
unconsciously filter some elements out if those elements aren t part of our worldviews. In addition, we
don t have a way of knowing that we have identified all the elements unless God reveals such a thing
to us. The worldview is a deceitful filter. For this reason, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to guide us in the
process. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to correct us when we get it wrong.
Interpretation can t add information. It s not a source of new knowledge. It can give us a better
understanding of the information that exists. Without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the human mind
is deceitful and will automatically distort the interpretation.
Explanations as a Way of Knowing
During the Q A session, Bill made the following statement:
We challenge you; tell us why the universe is accelerating. Tell us why these mothers were getting
sick. And we found an explanation for it.
Explanations aren t found. Explanations are made up. The word explanation exposes wrong thinking
about how we can know. Bodie Hodge gives this example:
Now I want the readers to understand that just because someone has an explanation for something,
that doesn t make it true. The Greeks

Complexity Science And Systems Thinking
In the prior chapter, I established both the multiplicity and malleability of identity and its role in
conflict transformation. I will now explore the literature on complexity science and systems thinking.
More specifically, I investigate the self as a complex adaptive system to support the transformation of
self, society, and conflict. First I will look at complexity science and systems thinking to bring some
clarity and definition to the inquiry, then I will explore the sciences that attribute the self as a system,
and furthermore, as a complex adaptive system in order to illuminate the various aspects of self that
contribute to transformative processes. Complexity Systems Complexity. Complexity theory, also
known as complexity science, or complex systems, is a unifying framework to understand how parts
of a system and their relationships give rise to the collective behaviors of a system, and how the
system interacts and forms relationships with its environment. Complexity (as I will refer henceforth
for ease), identified underlying parallels in phenomena as diverse as the rise and fall of civilizations,
the human immune system, the origins of life, the evolution of species, the workings of the human
brain, the onset of psychiatric illnesses, ecological systems, genetic selection, and the world economy.
The application is prevalent in biology, mathematics, philosophy, medicine, neuroscience, sociology,
anthropology, ecology, psychology, and philosophy, basically

Leadership Self Reflection Report
Self Reflection The purpose of this paper is to focus on my leadership qualities. I will discuss my key
values and beliefs, along with my strongest attribute and one of my weaknesses or an area that needs
improvement. Next, I will discuss two managers or leaders, one that I really liked and one that I
greatly disliked. Finally, I will discuss how I would like my direct reports to perceive me as a manger
and leader. Key Values and Beliefs
Upon reflection, I believe that my primary key value is integrity. I value integrity over all other values
and beliefs. To me, integrity is the root or base upon which our character is built. Without integrity,
our foundation has no substance and our other values are without merit. Another set of values that is
important to me is competence and knowledge. The ability to accomplish a task to the best of my
capabilities is fundamental to my sense of perfectionism. While, no one is perfect , may be true, I
believe it is important to strive toward that goal. If we set our standards at less than 100%, we will
achieve less than 100%. Second, knowledge is a critical component in achieving competence. I
believe learning should be a life long objective. The information and skills that come from learning
add to your experience and provide you with the means to achieve your goals. These three values,
integrity, competence, and knowledge form the basis of my belief system.
Strongest Attribute
My strongest attribute is my resolve for quality and

Why Is Street Racing Dangerous

street racing is fun to me. Me personally I don t care if I get hurt. This is why street racing is fun to
me. It makes me feel like I am in control of what happens to me. My paper is about street racing and I
will discuss what my topic is over, how street racers can race safely if they are scared, and where to go
to race safely. In order to understand street racing you must have some back ground knowledge on the
subject. Street racing can kill you. Four people died in her jurisdiction including a teen bicyclist
(Lendon, 1). This all happened within a short amount of time. This shows that street racing is
dangerous if you aren t smart about it. A personal account of a street racer said, I thought I was going
to die (Lendon, 1). Most people that race know the danger but they still race because it is fun. The
same person after getting a wreck went on to say, The thrill of racing wasn t gone (Lendon, 1). Street
racing hangouts usually feature many people. Therefore when cops respond to a call and run into one
of these groups, It s like kicking a beehive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a felony. If you go to a friends house they can be arrested for, Aiding and abedding (street racing, 32).
This is hiding a criminal or someone with warrants and felonies. The most dangerous type of street
racing in my opinion is, Impromptu racing (street racing, 29). This is when you decide to race
someone from a stop light on an unplanned route. This is why this is dangerous because you haven t

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein

a group, class, or family. According to a person s nature and character can be impacted by their way of

novel Victor Frankenstein. Does being a neglectful parent leads to someone being dangerous in
society. Victor Frankenstein is Genevese by birth and he came from very privileged background.

creature to bless him as the creator and wants it to be very appreciative to him for his creation.
However, the creature was built and Victor describes it to be as I had selected his features as beautiful.
Beautiful! Great God! . (Shelley #58). Nevertheless, when Victor went away to the valley and feeling
some form of isolation the creature was left to be on its own and thus followed Victor. Victor wanted
to have a pleasant escape and remove all his grief. Suddenly Victor saw a figure of a man. He
approached; his countenance bespoke bitter anguish, combined with disdain and malignity, while its
unearthly ugliness rendered it almost too horrible for human eyes . (Shelley #104). Victor called the
creature a devil and then said do you dare approach me? . (Shelley#104). The created mentions that he
expects this behavior of Victor. The creature then exclaimed Yet you, my creator, detest and spurn me,
thy creature and Do your duty towards me and I will do mine towards you and the rest of mankind .

care for him. Thus, by stating that

AP Calculus Lessons Of My Life
It was December and near the end of the first semester of my senior year. I sat next to my close friend
Adrian as I helped him understand the last few AP Calculus lessons. The time had reached 4:30 P.M.,
and we d been sitting together in Mr. Brink s room after school for almost two hours. Mr. Brink sat at
his desk while Adrian and I were at a different table. Only the three of us remained in the room.
Eventually, Adrian started to pack up. I gave him a hug as he left, then sat back down. As I looked up,
I made eye contact with my favorite teacher and best friend.
Thank you for helping Adrian today. He said to me.
Of course! I smiled in return.

War Poems
War is a time of violence, protest, death and pain for many people around the world. With this conflict,
a lot of poetry is written because poetry is one of the most common ways for people to put across their
feelings about situations. War is one of these situations for which many people have very strong
feelings.
A common theme in war poetry is the transformation that war brings about in a person. Many poems
reveal boys going into war and becoming young men after the experience. Another dominant theme in
war poems is about the forgotten soldiers who lost their lives and weren t remembered.
Many poems have been written about war and the feelings evoked by war. Even though a lot of war
poetry was written before World War 1, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However Gibson uses his words well and there are some smart lines throughout the poem. The
rhyming is very simple and the final word in each line rhymes with the other final word in each two
lined stanza. The simple nature of the rhythm in the poem gives it a gentle flow which is very
appropriate for the subject matter.
The poet s ability to use basic words, structure and rhythm appropriately enables him to create a smart
and crisp poem. The simplicity of the poem allows the readers to recognize the serious subject matter
of the poem, which is war.
This next poem was written by me. I got the inspiration for this poem after reading a number of other
war poems and remembering all the people who lost their lives at war. It is called Young lives lost
The eerie night was torn
By the blistering light of dawn
Many soldiers, many very young,
Their first time holding a gun.
Some no more than 16 years
Bravely holding back the burning tears
Youth s ignorance had been lost
The line of no return was crossed
War had turned these boys to men
Many would never see home again
And unless the senseless killing is ceased
The departed souls will never rest in peace.
My poem is written in a similar style to Gibsons poem. I followed the same rhyming patterns, and
used a simple structure, however my poem uses some slightly more complicated words. The general
theme is the same, but

Reintroduction of Wolves at Yellowstone Park Introduction While highly controversial, the
reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone Park has provided many beneficial ecological changes to the
entire parks ecosystem. After a nearly 70 year absence, in January of 1995, 14 wolves from separate
packs were captured in the Canadian Rockies and transported to Yellowstone National Park in the
states of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho (Sanders par. 2). The Canis Lupus or more commonly known

5). While in the acclimation pens the wolves were fed a diet of elk and other road kill with wolves
typically consuming 21 to 32 pounds of meat in a single feeding. In March of 1995, three of the packs
were released in Yellowstone, but with one issue; the wolves refused to exit through the gate because
they had associated it with humans, forcing the park rangers to cut a hole in the side of the enclosure
for them to escape (Sanders par. 11). Once the wolves were released two of the packs left the park and
set up their territory leaving only one group initially setting up inside the park. On May 3, 1995
female wolf number nine gave birth to eight puppies, the first wolves to be born in the park in nearly
70 years. The mother and pups were recaptured and taken back to the acclimation pen, until the pups
were weaned (Sanders par. 15). The reason for this recapture was because at this time, this wolf and
her eight pups counted for almost 50% of the park s wolf population. Since this time there have been
no other human interventions preferring to let nature take its course on the population. In 1996 1997 a
second group of wolves was captured and brought to Yellowstone for introduction via soft release with
two more acclimation pens being built, bringing the total to four. In the winter of 1997 1998 the
reintroduction of wolves was stopped due to the high success of the wolf packs breeding and the pups
surviving on their own. The breeding

  • 2. Feminism In Eve Ensler s Buffy The Vampire Slayer In the spring of 1997 Buffy the Vampire Slayer debuted a show that addressed aspects of feminism that were brought to life in society. This was around the same time the third wave of feminism began. The wave started in the early 1990s and continues through present day and it is responding to the failures of the second wave of feminism and also addressed the backlash that the second created. Although there are many ideas from the second wave that they still used as a fighting tool to keep the wave going. For example, the making domestic abuse shelters for women and children, acknowledging the abuse of rape on women on public level, and legalizing the right to abortions and many more organizations were created so that women and children would ... The effective ways of speaking out in the third weave came by feminists showed their concerns through sexist images and symbols. A play that later turned to a book, The Vagina Monologues, written by Eve Ensler explored women s feelings with sexuality that discussed vagina centered topics, for example, orgasms, birth, and rape. The third wave redefined women and girls as assertive, powerful, and in control of their own sexuality. The third wave, to an extent almost unimaginable to the members of the first and second waves because some ideas had many facets with people concerning their gender, ethnic, and class identities, experiences, and interests. The third wavers sought to recalim and redefine the ideas that media placed ideas of womanhood, gender, femininity, and masculinity. The third wave brought into existence the idea that gender is not based on your traits you recieve at birth. Instead it is the idea that a person determines what their gender is based on how they feel. Another important aspect of feminism in this wave was sex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. 1991 Sacramento Hostage Crisis The United States had its largest hostage rescue operation in its entire history, during the 1991 Sacramento hostage crisis. Four Vietnamese men, aged between 17 and 21, with legally acquired firearms purchased by the leader of the group, entered into a Good Guys! Electronics store with the intention to hold hostages until the four gunmen would receive (as ransom) $4 million, four bullet proof vests, a helicopter, and a 1,000 year old ginger plant (Gross, p. 10). The gunmen had told negotiators and hostages that they were dissatisfied with their lives in the United States, frustrated by the difficulty of finding jobs and eager to be movie stars during the televised hostage crisis (Gross, p. 8). These men wanted notoriety, and they wanted to return to their country of origin, Vietnam, using the helicopter they demanded in the ransom. Despite threatening the hostages, shooting several of them with the intent to injure them, and making wild ransom requests, the Vietnamese men made little headway. After they realized their ransom offers were not going to be met, they pushed the negotiators to give bulletproof vests in exchange for several women and children. • 4. There Is A Pain-So Utter, By Emily Dickinson When people experience a tragedy, the pain that is felt by those affected can feel suffocating and unending. In Emily Dickinson s poem, There is a pain so utter , the speaker describes this type of idea, as he or she dramatizes this dread as an abyss that swallows up everything that comes near it. As she describes this, the speaker says that it swallows substance up (2) and that it can drop people bone by bone (8). The speaker then states that Memory can step around across upon it . (4, 5) This could potentially describe the idea that while the speaker could be falling into the pit, that the person s mind could become so traumatized that it dissociates itself from its body s harsh reality and will not be swallowed up by the emptiness. The speaker presents a short, concise idea about this metaphor that dread and misery can manifest itself into an abyss that can destroy everything and everyone in its path. ... • 6. Fossil Fuels Disadvantages Fossil fuels have been the world s main energy source since they were discovered, however, they carry harmful side effects such as pollution and climate change. Forms of alternative energy such as solar, wind, and nuclear power are possible replacements of fossil fuel energy. Controversy surrounds both fossil fuels and alternative forms of energy due to each energy form having consequences. Some believe that alternative energy brings just as many disadvantages as fossil fuels, while others argue that alternative energy is better for the environment and its population. While people have different beliefs pertaining to alternative energy, both forms of energy have been used throughout history. Fossil fuels are created from the remains of decayed animals and plants and then burned to make energy. Coal, oil, and natural gas are examples of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels grew in popularity during the Industrial Revolution when the first coal deposits were found (Mason). This discovery prompted a new age of energy and eventually led to the use of oil, another fossil fuel. Fossil fuels continued to grow and eventually became the world s main energy source, but burning fossil fuels gives off carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that causes climate change. The climate change created by fossil fuels produced the controversy that surrounds this form of energy. Another popular energy source is alternative energy. Alternative energy is any form of energy besides fossil fuels, such as solar, wind, and nuclear power. Similar to fossil fuels, ideas of alternative energy began during the Industrial Revolution, however, these designs were not created until the 1950s (Mason). During the 1950s, the renewable forms of alternative energy were the most popular, due to the realization that fossil fuel sources would eventually be depleted. Today, research about alternative energy is still being done as this energy source is also controversial. Alternative energy is said to be less reliable and even more dangerous than fossil fuels. Although both alternative energy forms and fossil fuels are controversial, they remain relevant in today s world because energy is necessary in people s daily lives. In support of alternative energy is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Education Of Cyrus Essay The Education of Cyrus is Xenophon s account of the development and ascendency of Cyrus, a young boy who soon become King of Persia, and also a depiction of Persia and her people. Aristotle s Politics, on the other hand, is a philosophical work, aimed at dissecting the political life and determining how human beings should organize themselves politically. Yet, at their core, both books are respectfully critical of the political life. The following will assess two apparent paradoxes that appear to plague the political life: 1) with respect to Cyrus, the balancing of the noble and the good and 2) with respect to Aristotle, the struggle between broad political participation and a virtuous government. At the heart of the Education of Cyrus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The example on page 91 of the Politics can be applied to Persia. Cyrus, the most virtuous of all, ruled Persia, which is something Aristotle would support: the most virtuous and best should rule. Yet, Cyrus empire soon becomes a oligarchy as his sons take rule and solely value the goods, not the noble. This fall from nobility and their dissension eventually led to cities and nations immediately [revolting] and everything [taking] a turn for the worse (Xenophon 273). While the application of Aristotle s scenario on page 91 does not perfectly fit this account, the revolting of the cities and nations can be viewed as similar to the uprising of the multitude over the oligarchs. What is clear, however, is that the abandonment of real, honest and true virtue in both cases leads to the ignoble and avaricious ruling class falling at the hands of the discontent and downtrodden many. What one can take away from both the implicit and explicit criticisms given by Xenophon and Aristotle is that political life is incredibly messy and problematic and, moreover, the best regime, the telos of political life, may not be unattainable. Both works indicate that virtue must be a main component of the regime, yet it appears human beings have difficulty remaining virtuous in the face of 1) material wealth and 2) the allure of ... NCAA March Madness In monumental clashes for the ages, both collegiate men and women s NCAA March Madness tournaments have provided countless matches, unprecedented athleticism, and glorious victories paired with heartbreaking defeats. Yet despite their similar structures, the two tournaments have attained vastly different levels of recognition in the United States. With men s basketball, thousands of Americans tune in every year to watch the upsets and Final Four games, drooling over perennial powerhouses such as Duke University, University of Kentucky, and University of Kansas and unknown underdogs like Butler University, Wichita State University, and Virginia Commonwealth University as they all compete in titanic battles. Everyone from retirees to college students fill out fantasy brackets yearly in volumes reaching millions, praying to have that lucky year where they predict the tournament correctly. Sociology professor Michael Messner of the University of Southern California explains that the media actively constructs audiences that are likely to see the men s Final Four as a dramatic, historic event that they simply must watch, while fans are likely to see the women s Final Four as a nonevent or, at best, as just another game of the Men s Final Four (Messner). Messner emphasizes the differences in language, attention, and emotion in media coverage as the sources of different representations and viewership. Professor Messner is not the only expert to contend that purposeful sexism and subtle contrast in media representation are the causes of the inequality in coverage. Others assert that we need more women on television, in the news, and in front of our young girls, arguing purposeful disinterest in gender equality is the reason for lack of viewership in women s basketball ... In order to become a major player for internet search engines in China, however, they had buckled and filtered search results according to the Chinese government. When Google.cn was launched, a loud public outcry over its giving in to the Chinese government on censoring and filtering search engine results, the company faced a communications crisis. Since Google had always been known for its free thinking, this seemed a vast contradiction. Google s policy of self censorship in China did not sit well with the public or human rights organizations. Though Google seemed to promote free thinking and free speech on one hand, they were censoring and filtering with the other. Google lost credibility with the public, thus tarnishing its public image and loosing 1% of the U.S. market in one month, as reported in The Business. (2006, Aug) Image credibility is based on the constituency s perception of the organization (Argenti, 2009, p.39). When the public image of a company has been compromised it can make a huge difference in determining the success or failure of the organization (Argenti, 2009, p. 40). When the public looses confidence in a company and what they stand for, they no longer wish to use its product. In response, executives at Google attempted to convince the public that they could handle the balancing act between censorship and providing information, and gain back public trust and confidence. Google s greatest vulnerability in the ordeal with China was damage done to its reputation because we should, as stated in the Bible, Earn a reputation for living well in God s eyes and the eyes of the people. • 12. Analysis Of Black Diggers In The Longest Memory The historical fiction novel the longest memory set in the 18th century depicts a character Whitechapel , an elderly slave working at a plantation, in Virginia. Whitechapel, unlike other slaves is treated with more respect from the white individuals in the novel and accepts the treatment inflicted on him by the white men, stating that if he acts with respect then receive good treatment. However, towards the ending of the novel it is prevalent that he desires for things to change following the death of his beloved son Chapel . The black diggers in the play black diggers set in 1914 Australia, are similarly treated in an inhumane manner by white men. The black diggers desire for change in this area and therefore enlist to fight for Australian in the first world war. They long that when they will return, the inhumane treatment they received will no longer be, however, they faced further scrutiny by the white Australian society upon their return. Unipolar depression consists of primarily depressive states while bipolar depression involves a fluctuation between states of depression and mania (2). While some of the findings from these genetic studies are still preliminary, several investigations have indicated that the role of certain neurotransmitters, called monoamines, in depression is immense (7). Neurotransmitters are chemicals in the brain that bind to receptors in order to excite or inhibit the firing of neurons (6). The Catecholamine Theory of Mood was proposed as a major explanation for the cause of depression in the 1960s by Joseph Schildkraut (7). Schildkraut suggested that a deficiency of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine at receptor sites caused depression while increased levels of norepinephrine caused mania. Some evidence for Schildkraut s account was established by the success rate of monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor drugs, which block the reuptake of monoamines and facilitate the release of neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine and serotonin (8). Further evidence has been established by studies that found decreased norepinephrine levels in the cerebrospinal fluid of deceased depressed patients (5). More recently, drugs have been developed that selectively block the reuptake of norepinephrine by the presynaptic cell. It has been found in preliminary studies that the level of depression decreases in these patients, which provides further evidence for the role of norepinephrine in depression. While empirical support for the Catecholamine Theory of Mood has grown substantially, evidence from more recent studies highlights the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many years ago, sellers advertised by posting on the windows of shops, providing free samples of food, and eventually by posting in newspapers and radio (O Barr, 2005). An intriguing historic fact is that advertising was used to convince people to journey to the New World in the 1800s (O Barr, 2005). Nowadays, with increased exposure to media through television, cell phones, computers, and other electronic devices, marketing has become more advanced and ubiquitous. According to the documentary, advertisements have consistently carried the standard of indoctrination, or promotion. The documentary describes that there used to be a limited and cheap marketing culture for children in the 1900s. After deregulation in the 1980s, the trend of promotion or indoctrination had drastically grown throughout time as marketers found better ways to popularize their products, services, and values. In 2006, the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil implemented a law to prohibit public, outdoor advertisements. Soon after, thousands of advertisements on highways, billboards, public transportation, and buildings were removed, thus exposing the authenticity and natural essence of the city. Guns Are Used For Self Defense Guns are used for Self Defense less than 1% of the time Looking at data from 1992 through 2005 and 2007 through 2011, there were over 192 million violent crimes committed in the United States during this 17 year period. Of those crimes, the victims chose to use a gun as a self defensive measure to threaten or attack their offender over 1.3 million times. Over this 17 year time period, a gun was used as a form of self defense to threaten or attack an offender 0.7% of the time. Of those 0.7% that used a gun, 0.3% resulted in a justifiable homicide of the offender. The idea of using a gun for self defense is a pervasive one. The often cited number is that Americans use a gun as a defensive or self protection measure 2.2 to 2.5 million times per year (Kleck and Gertz, 1995). However, this number and other high estimates have been scrutinized for their validity. The Cato Institute s report Tough Targets (Cramer and Burnett, 2012), a pro gun study, even acknowledges that some studies exaggerate the use of guns to the point of statistical impossibility. They also mention underreporting, including the datasets used to produce the numbers you see here (their study produces no numerical rates of gun use for self defense). If the 2.5 million number were true, that would mean close to 1 in 4 people would have actively used a gun for a self defense. Does that seem plausible? After a nearly 70 year absence, in January of 1995, 14 wolves from separate packs were captured in the Canadian Rockies and transported to Yellowstone National Park in the states of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho (Sanders par. 2). While in the acclimation pens the wolves were fed a diet of elk and other road kill with wolves typically consuming 21 to 32 pounds of meat in a single feeding. In March of 1995, three of the packs were released in Yellowstone, but with one issue; the wolves refused to exit through the gate because they had associated it with humans, forcing the park rangers to cut a hole in the side of the enclosure for them to escape (Sanders par. 11). Once the wolves were released two of the packs left the park and set up their territory leaving only one group initially setting up inside the park. On May 3, 1995 female wolf number nine gave birth to eight puppies, the first wolves to be born in the park in nearly 70 years. The mother and pups were recaptured and taken back to the acclimation pen, until the pups were weaned (Sanders par. 15). The reason for this recapture was because at this time, this wolf and her eight pups counted for almost 50% of the park s wolf population. Since this time there have been no other human interventions preferring to let nature take its course on the population. In 1996 1997 a second group of wolves was captured and brought to Yellowstone for introduction via soft release with two more acclimation pens being built, bringing the total to four. In the winter of 1997 1998 the reintroduction of wolves was stopped due to the high success of the wolf packs breeding and the pups surviving on their own. The breeding ...
