New Public Management
What is the New Public Management? And how has it expressed itself in the workings of public
bureaucracies in the Caribbean?
Introduction
During the last twenty years, various public administrations of countries in Europe, North America,
Latin America and the Caribbean, were characterised by a practical reform movement defined by
Hood (1991) as the New Public Management (NPM). This is documented by other scholars such as
Gernod Gruening (1998)[1], and Paul Sutton (2003). Throughout the literature, it is evident that the
process of reform have been subject to different terminologies: Managerialism Pollitt (1990);
Market Based Administration Lan and Rosenbloom (1992); Entrepreneurial Government Osborne
and Gaebler (1992). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Implementers of The Movement
The NPM movement began to develop in the late 1970 s and early 1980 s. The first movers were
the United kingdom, which was reformed by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and communal
governments in the US under Ronald Reagan which suffered heavily from recessive developments
and tax revolts of their citizens. Later the national governments of other Commonwealth countries,
mainly New Zealand and Australia joined, after news the reform successes in these countries, and
administrative reforms got on the agendas of almost all OECD countries.[7]
Philosophy of the New Public Management
Some of the major philosophical underpinnings of the NPM were outlined by Teehankee (2003) and
are very pervasive throughout the literature: Management culture that emphasizes the centrality of
the customer Transparency with regard to resource allocation and results Organization that
promotes decentralized control through a wide

The Shipman s Tale Essay
The Shipman s Tale The Shipman s Tale, one of the many tales in Geoffrey Chaucer s The
Canterbury Tales, is exactly suited to the Shipman s personality and profession as given in The
Prologue. The shipman is described by Chaucer in the prologue as very sneaky, deceitful, and
even pirate like. The Shipman s tale matches his personality and profession because The Shipman
s Tale is one of trickery and con. The monk in the tale tricks both the merchant and the merchant s
wife out of their money. He also uses his relationship with the merchant to his advantage, because
he knows the merchant would never suspect him of having sex with his wife. The shipman is also
portrayed in the prologue to have no sense of remorse or feelings of sorrow.... Show more content

Wanting to know the whole story, John promised to keep it a secret and the wife then proceeded
to tell him more. She said that her husband was the worst man to ever exist since the world began.
She also admits that she owes a debt of 100 francs and asks the monk for the money instead of
humiliatingly asking her husband. The monk agrees to get her 100 francs under the condition that
she has sex with him in return. The wife agrees to these terms. That evening the three had dinner
together, after which the monk took the merchant aside and asked him if he could borrow 100
francs. He told the merchant it was going to be used to purchase cattle and the merchant handed
over the money without hesitation. The following day, the merchant was on his way to Bruges. The
following Sunday, the monk, remembering the promise the wife made, showed up at the house
with the 100 francs. He and the merchant s wife then proceeded to have sex for the entire night.
When the merchant returned he was eager to see his wife and tell her about his business
transactions. But first, he went right to the abbey to see his friend the monk. He and the monk
were happy to see each other and after they had a conversation about the merchant s trip, the monk
mentioned that he had left the 100 francs he owed to the merchant with his wife. Once the
merchant got home, he met his wife at the gate, told her his stories and then continued to enjoy a
night in bed with her. When they were

Tyler Wong Case Study
Former Toronto Marlies forward Tyler Wong lit up in pre season action on Sunday against the
Vancouver Canucks with 3g, 1a.
Vancouver, B.C. After a convincing 9 4 victory over the Vancouver Canucks, former Toronto Marlie
and Lethbridge Hurricanes captain Tyler Wong put on a clinic against the nucks in a 4 point effort.
This isn t the first time Tyler Wong has had a multi point game, as the diminutive forward tallied
109 points in 69 games in the WHL last season with the Hurricanes.
The undrafted 21 year old from Cochrane, Alberta may be familiar to some Leafs fans, as he
participated in both the development and training camp with the Toronto Maple Leafsin 16/17.
Riding a two goal performance in camp scrimmages, Wong showed off his speed and tenacity on the
puck, eventually earning an Amateur Tryout deal with the Toronto Marlies.... Show more content

Before becoming the first player in Golden Knights history to score a goal, Wong was a five time
winner of the Hurricanes Fan Favorite Award. This should not come as a surprise, as Wong
finished his career with the Hurricanes third all time in career games played (317), third in all time
goals (143), ninth in all time assists (155), and sixth all time in points (298).
Despite being 5 9, Tyler Wong has all the markings to be a successful player in the NHL.
With the abundance of talent and undersized wingers the Leafs have (Bracco, Johnson, and
Dzierkals to name a few), it is safe to say it would have been far near impossible for Tyler Wong to
get significant playing time within the Maple Leafs organization.
Did the Leafs make the Wong decision letting him go? Only time can tell what calibre of an NHL
player Tyler Wong will be, but if he continues this level of play, the Golden Nights will be forced to
give him a

The Issue Of South Africa
Many of the contemporary issues in South Africa can easily be associated with the apartheid laws
which devastated the country. The people of South Africa struggle day by day to reverse the most
cruel, yet well crafted, horrific tactic of social engineering. The concept behind apartheid emerged
in 1948 when the nationalist party took over government, and the all white government enforced
racial segregation under a system of legislation . The central issues stem from 50 years of apartheid
include poverty, income inequality, land ownership rates and many other long term affects that still
plague the brunt of the South African population while the small white minority still enjoy much of
the wealth, most of the land and opportunities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around 1652, the Dutch East India Company created a settlement on the cape, leading to several
other indigenous peoples settling in the area as well . This tactic nearly parallels with the
colonization beginning throughout the rest of the world. White supremacy gradually took over
South Africa as more and more of them colonized the country, and worked their way into
government positions. The English pushed the natives out and eventually did not care about
race, merely about the money that came from labor . The Land Act of 1913, was believed to be
the initial beginning of the apartheid laws. This act initiated by white supremacists marked the
first major downfall of segregation for the colored and Indian peoples of South Africa. The
Afrikans were essentially divided into nine nations and approximately 93% of the land was
reserved for the white people. 2/3 of the population of South Africa at the time was considered
African, or native people, and these people were all banned from freely buying land , making
conditions very harsh, and malnutrition was extremely common . Urbanization occurred with
white people in power simply increasing the segregation between races. Africans continued to live
and work in absolutely terrible conditions. They often resided in the outskirts of cities in derisory
housing, with poor sanitation, were lucky to have a bit of electricity, and had awful people to
manage their workplace. The

Justice In Twelve Angry Men, By Reginald Rose
]In this trial, there are twelve angry men. These men are the jurors deciding a 19 year old s fate
of life or death. So in the drama Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose s shows justice through
motif, dialogue, and imagery. The first way Reginald Rose shows justice is with a couple motifs.
Like when the jurors do the first vote guilty, guilty, guilty, not guilty. (26 Rose) This shows justice
on how everyone thought the boy was mainly guilty in the start cause it s 11 1 guilty. Next, when
the jurors decide to do another vote in the middle of the trial and they said guilty, not guilty, guilty,
guilty, not guilty, not guilty, guilty, not guilty, not guilty, guilty, not guilty, guilty. (45 46 Rose)
This is starting to show how that one juror that voted not guilty in the beginning vote is starting to
change justice by changing the other juror s mind because it s 6 6 even on the vote. Then kinda
near the last vote there not guilty, nine, all those voting guilty, three (59 Rose). This shows how
now everyone has mostly changed and the boy will most likely be free. These motifs show how an

Like when the jurors are talking and say In what way was it obvious? I mean that nobody proved
otherwise. (18 Rose) Juror eight is talking to juror two talking about if there sure the boy is
actually guilty. Next, the jurors argue about He didn t have any ticket stub. Who keeps a ticket
stub at the movies? (18 Rose) Now they re arguing if he really went to the movies to see if he is
really guilty or not. Next, when they talk about the knife they said Where did you get it? I got it
in a little junk shop around the corner from the boy s house. It cost two dollars. (24 Roses) This
shows where all the jurors are arguing of the boy really used that knife to kill the father or the bot
really dropped the knife out of his pocket. This shows how dialogue can show communication
which can prove proof and justice

effect does the current American culture have on teenagers? Current American culture has a great

in school health classes. Typically, the health instructors in America educate students to stay
abstinent. The news reporter explains how sex education programs claim that, condoms fail to
prevent HIV transmission as often as 31% . He also presents other false statements that are made
in health classes that are clearly misleading. A high school teacher tells viewers that In America
unfortunately kids are being taught sex education during their 9th/10th grade years of high school
while other countries start sex education earlier. This makes logical sense because as the teacher
explains, educating students about sex before or closer to the time they are developing sexually
will be more effective than doing so after the fact. Pastor

Buddhism In The Tale Of Genji
Buddhism in the Tale of Genji
My interpretation of Buddhism in the Tale of Genji is that the nobles sought after a religion of least
resistance, in terms of guiltless religion. Lady Murasaki portrayed Genji as a man on a pursuit of
stratification and enlightenment, this coincides well with Buddhism. For instance, Genji would
consult monks in times of strife and conflict. Buddhism in the Heian Period gave means for the
nobles to have a religious back bone of counsel, personal enlightenment, rituals and faith based
healing.
This form of Buddhism in The Tale of Genjiis called court Buddhism and was vital to many of
daily proceedings of the aristocrats. When illness struck, the aristocrats turned to Buddhism to
directly combat their illnesses; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A common emotion towards death in the Buddhist culture is being scared to die. This is because
Buddhists all believe in a never ending life cycle called reincarnation. This means that when
somebody dies their spirit will be brought back but not in the same form as their former life. It
was believed that when Genji passed away he was reincarnated as his son Kaoru who acts just
like Genji did and displays the same heroism. Who or what they are in their next life all revolves
around karma. If they were a bad person and they were something such as an emperor in their
next life they will be reincarnated into a lower status such as being a peasant. If they were a good
person, they will earn a better position in their subsequent life. No matter the status of the person
in their current existence, they were all petrified of dying because even feeling simple emotions
that can seem uncontrollable such as jealously or anger can be enough to be demoted in your next
life. The only way to escape this reincarnation cycle was to become enlightened . Being enlightened
is the ultimate goal when practicing Buddhism as it is the highest level that can be achieved.
Genji tries to follow some aspects of Buddhism but others not so much such as monogamy, as he
has many affairs in his lifetime. It is believed that all the

The United Nations is an international organization, which was founded in 1945 after the Second
World War, committed to providing the means to help resolve international conflicts and formulate
policies on matters affecting human beings all over the world (Wikipedia). The organization is
committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among

How does the United Nations support the millennium development goal of promoting
environmental sustainability by limiting climate change in South and North America? This
investigation shall focus on the previously mentioned question as this a very interesting topic to

environmental sustainability in South and North America, and therefore would make a good topic
to further research on. This topic is worthy of studying as by knowing of what many before us have
done to protect and sustain the environment, we can look into aiding the environment to a

In Nancy ChodorowГ•s essay
Г’Family Structure and Feminine PersonalityГ“ she examines the development of gender identity
and personality. Except for the stereotypical examples I have given above which again are e
stablished by the parents, Chodorow states that the development of a child is basically the same
for boys and girls until the age of three. During those first three years the mother is the dominant
figure in the childГ•s life. The father plays a limited role until the child reaches the so called
Г’OedipalГ“ period (beyond age 3). It is at this stage that children begin to try to separate
themselves from the clutches of their mother and establish their own identity. Chodorow
examines how different this is for boys and girls. KFRC radio disk jockey Ron Parker recently
reported that out of a survey of one hundred fourth grade boys and one hundred fourth grade
girls, the boys receive an average weekly allowance that is approximately 50% higher than the
girls receive. On the average, the boys receive $4.18 as compared to the $2.67 paid to the girls.
To look even further, the survey reported that the boys only perform three household chores to
earn their weekly allowance whereas the girls are performing twel ve or more. Why are the girls
expected to do four times as much work around the house than the boys are?

Example Of A Zombie Apocalypse

The four resources I found regarding a zombie apocalypse provided some background about the

give examples such as shooting ranges that are currently luring people in, to prepare for zombies

The words above belong to Confucius, who was one of the most respected philosophers of all time.
He founded a social and political system of philosophy, and transmitted his ideas to a group of

rates. For example, some systems may not allow you to change certain things or perform testing.
When you are developing your site, you will need to have access to these types of things if you
want to be truly effective. For this reason, the first step in maximizing the number of people who
convert into customers is to purchase a CMS that allows you to work outside the confines of a
simpler system.
Complexity could be a Problem
It is tempting to develop a conversion optimization plan that is detailed and complex. However, this
is not always the best option. Complexity can lead to confusion, which could leave you and your
managers spinning their wheels when it comes to creating content that actually sells.
Instead, stick with a simple plan that can easily adapt to the changing environment that is always
present online. Also, keep your website simple. Avoid adding to much information or items that
may be confusing to those who visit your site. You should also look at simplifying your topics and

The Percentage Of Public Elementary And Secondary School...
A statement of the problem
The percentage of public elementary and secondary school students in the United States who were
identified as English language learners (ELL) in the 1999 2000 school year was 6.7% of the total
school population (U.S. Department of Education, 2000). The increase is in mainly in the Hispanic
subpopulation and Hispanic students traditionally perform poorly on national assessments. The No
Child Left Behind legislation requires that all children will have a fair, equal, and significant
opportunity to receive a high quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on
standardized assessments (Section 1001, p. 15). As ELL student populations increase so does the
pressure on teachers and schools to increase the numbers of ELL students who meet state governed
reading proficiency levels.
A review of the literature
The researchers in this study conclude that ELL students participating in secondary tier
interventions using curricula with a direct instruction approach and delivered in small groups
presented greater outcomes in student progress on DIBELS assessments and for the Woodcock
Reading Mastery test. The researchers cite other reading studies that have used these same
assessment methods as giving validity to their use. Their study outcomes further suggest that direct
instruction using evidence based reading practice in small groups of 3 5 students is a teaching
method that should be employed by teachers of ELL students in order to increase

The Relationship Between Weather And Motor Vehicle Accidents
Within this research proposal, I will be discussing my hypothesis that will determine the question I
have for my final research study. This research study will gather information from archival data
and will not have any contact with any participants. This proposal will discuss the types of archival
data being collected, the variables that will be measured, the foreseen limits of this researchstudy,
and the procedure to intact the ethical principles of the population. I hypothesize that the number of
motor vehicle accidents declared in North Americawill be higher with rain, fog, and snow weather
conditions. For this research proposal I will be looking at completed studies and research to
determine if there is a relationship between weather and motor vehicle accidents. I will also look at
statistics, specifically Statistics Canada, data collection on vehicles driven and weather conditions
specific to areas in North America. One variable that are being measured is the type of weather
conditions, such as rain, snow, or fog. Another variable that is being measure is the amount and
type of motor vehicle. These variables will be researched specific to North America areas. Many
of the studies I am looking at are accessible through universities library and Google scholar.
Although for some of the studies, I need to have access to a student number for the universities
resources or pay for the material, it is still accessible publicly. I can be confident that the

Observation Of Student Motivation
The teacher began the lesson by showing students a place value chart. The teacher also checked for
fluency by asking the students double fact addition sentences and had them write on their
individual white board. The teacher had the students use a place value chart to count $124 with in
their groups.
b. What was the motivational question or questions, if you can t identify one or any state that?
Why do we call this a place value chart?
How much do you have?
If you have 10 dollar bills, what can you do?
How did you organize your money?
c. What teaching strategies were used to maintain student motivation throughout the lesson?
The first strategy I saw the teacher use was activating student s prior knowledge. The teacher asked
the students several questions that made students think throughout the lesson. The teacher had the
students engaged by using a dry erase board and a marker. The teacher also used manipulatives
such as fake money and a place value chart to have students count money. Last but not least the
teacher planned for group work.
d. What student behavior gave you the impression that students were indeed motivated to learn?
The students were actively engaged. They seemed excited to be able to participate by using their
boards. Some students found it almost like a competition when the teacher was checking for
fluency. I noticed that students that usually don t like to participate put their hands up. The

The Importance Of Direct Democracy
As citizens of the United States, Americans have the responsibility of understanding their abilities
in regards to contribution to political decisions. Especially in recent years, Americans have come
to realize the true significance of direct democracy or a lack thereof. Although on a federal level
direct democracyis lacking, on the state level, including Californian government, direct democracy
can have a significant impact on the lives of citizens.
What identifies direct democracy as an important tool and a source of power for citizens is the
direct power they have over legislation and/or politics hence, direct democracy; the citizens do
not need approval and recognition by politicians, nor do they need to be led by them to succeed.
The only ingredient required for success is the support of the masses, which is generally more
plausible with an access to large sums of money. In general, there are three primary methods used in
the execution of direct democracy: referendum, recall, and initiative.
When citizens are unhappy over a piece of legislation that has already been ratified, it can be
petitioned, and if successful, ultimately lead to a popular vote for the law this is what is known
as a referendum. Referendum can come about in two prime ways legislative referendum and
popular referendum. Legislative referendum is where a legislature allows the people to vote on a
bill as opposed to the legislature voting on it, whereas popular referendum is an attempt to

Charlie Rose Segmentation About Visual Perception
In Charlie Rose segment about Visual Perception they discussed 4 main topics. The first topic was
about the brain. According to the video the brain devotes about 25 percent of its duties to vision.
Many people believe that when seeing things it s just your vision working but in reality the brain is
what perceives the images. With that being said the brainis the creative organ that makes sense out
of what the eye sees. The second topic was about the eye. According to the video the eye takes
incomplete information from the external world and doesn t fully grasp the information being
presented. Although the eye doesn t completely perceive things the different parts make it possible
for the brain to perceive it. For instance, the cortex helps the brain respond to whether a object is

The Cathedral of Saint Francis de Sales
From St. Peter s Basilica in Vatican City to the Cathedral of Notre Dame in France, architects

However, tourists of these Churches seem to fail to go behind the scenes and appreciate all the

Baptism will make them one of the men that Catholicism has caught, or rather, has taught. The
confessionals, also known as reconciliation rooms, are areas where one can perform the
Sacrament of Penance, also known as confession. These are located in the back of the Cathedral
so that the confessor may confess their sins in a secluded room where they feel private and
comfortable. A cry room is located in the back of the Cathedral. It is for families that have newly
born babies. If the parents were to bring their babies to Cathedral they would most likely cry
during the Mass, and it will interrupt the Mass. Therefore, the cry room is for families who still
want to go to church but do not want to interrupt the Holy mass. The cry room has speakers in it
that are connected to the priest s microphone so that those inside the room will be able to follow
and hear the Mass.
The Adoration Chapel is a term that is broadly used to designate the practically uninterrupted

one of the annexes in the Cathedral. (Becchio, Bruno, and Schade 25) The Eucharist is the prime
celebration that brings Catholics together. Thus, it is vital that they feel like a part

The Effects Of Overpopulation
Introduction:
In this essay I will be investigating how a world where people are starving, will be affected by
an increasing population. Overpopulation can be defined to fill with an excessive number of
people, straining available resources and facilities. By 2050, the world will be apart of nine
billion people. Today at least one billion people are starving or are chronically malnourished.
The basic definition of being chronically malnourished is that a person will fail to grow to their
full potential. For humans, food is an activity of our daily life, and not a lot of people have it. I
believe the topic food is an issue that we need to take into consideration.
In order to present this, I will firstly consider the food waste and food consumption of Hong Kong. I

By providing these children with the basics of getting a job, it will help them get a better
understanding of how important it is to get one, and to prepare themselves to be independent in the

In comparison with hunger, there are numerous solutions to overpopulation. One of the main
solutions to overpopulation is, better education like the hunger crisis. If we educate people and help
them understand that the need to have one or two children at the most is right, then hopefully
overpopulation will get better.
In addition, studies have shown that when Women have more job opportunities, they tend to chose
having smaller families, thus investing more in each child rather than more, and this will help
break the poverty cycle.
Secondly, we can enforce family planning. As the population is increasing at a fast pace, trying to
raise awareness about this issue with families, and giving them an idea about the effects population
has on the world, can help families think about their future

Subsequently as a leader in the organization, James experienced problems from employees due to
the lack of power and influence in his unstructured role within the organization and mistakes made
in his immature leadership approach.
The problems from employees persisted due to James lack of power and influence in the
organization as a leader. According to Bethel University (2011), leaders who can reward and
punish followers may have a greater capacity to influence followers than those leaders who cannot
use rewards or punishments (p. 107). As a leader and manager in the organization, James acceded to
two management positions offered by vice president of marketing, Eric Johnson, without any
clarity of his legitimate, reward, and coercive powers. Collectively, these powers would have
revealed James authority of position, ability to influence with rewards, and the ability to influence
others with disciplinary action (Bethel University, 2011). James powers and position in the
organization was realized when he asked Eric for a part time secretary. And, even more, when he
became infuriated with a supervisor after asking her subordinates (two clerks) for administrative
assistance without prior approval. The supervisor refused to assist and impolitely questioned his
ability to perform his duties and stated, ...it is your job, causing James to report the situation to Eric
(Bethel University, 2011, p. 144).

Equilibrium Lab
The purpose of this lab was to be able to identify the factors that contribute in allowing carbon
dioxide to exist as a solid, liquid, and gas. By performing this experiment, we were able to have a
better understanding of the three phases being in equilibrium with each other. In its natural state,
carbon dioxide exists as a solid. In order to exist as a liquid, the pressure required to make this phase
change must be at minimum 5.11 atm. Once the solid carbon dioxide melts, the triple point is
achieved through the energy that was absorbed. This point demonstrates that the three phases are
now in equilibrium with one another. This experiment allowed us to determine that both pressure
and temperaturehelped carbon dioxide exist as a solid, liquid, and a gas. The first step needed to
carry out the experiment, was to crush the dry ice into smaller pieces in order to fit into... Show

When securing the pipette we noticed that it was hard to tie because of the built up of the
pressure. The water also contributed in this process because as the solid carbon dioxide was
placed into the room temperature water, it was able to turn into a liquid then as a gas. In addition
to an increase in pressure, we learned that an increase in temperature also took place. The starting
temperature of the solid carbon dioxide was 78 degrees Celsius but after reacting with the room
temperature water to reach the triple point, it increased to 56.6 degrees Celsius. When comparing
our data with other groups, we found that they also noted the same changes in pressure and
temperature when they performed the experiment. This proved that our evidence and data was
correct and the experiment was a success. Ultimately this lab was significant because we learned
that temperature and pressure were the forces that contributed to the existence of carbon dioxide in
a solid, liquid, and gas

the body s way of letting a person know that they have just encountered something harmful and

Shakespeare Henry IV
In Shakespeare s novel Henry IV Part 1, the concept of war is portrayed through different
individuals. Each character perceives war differently, leading them to take independent actions. In
this era, war was not perceived as a final solution to all their problems, but as a common event
between rulers. To die for ones country was viewed as an act of honor, although, a certain individual
disfavored this act of honor. Throughout the novel, Shakespeare s attitude reveals the unnaturalness
of civil war, but also ties relationships together.
Shakespeare portrays that the role of being a king, and obtaining power, could be played by
anyone with the right appearance and behavior. According to King Henry, Hotspur (Lord Henry
Percy) is the theme of honor s tongue, (1.1.80) implying that he is the ideal example of being an
honorable king, unlike his son, Prince Hal, who spends majority of his time at the tavern. King
Henry and Sir Walter Blunt agree that Hotspur would be the appropriate king of France because of
his bravery, successfulness in battles and his time spent with royalty. Although, Hotspur and his
father, Earl of Northumberland, and his uncle, Earl of Worcester, plan to overthrow the king by
defeating his army on the battlefield. Hotspur explains to his army how the king rejected and
shamed his family.

Not all people who speak the English language speak it the same way. It is very uncommon to find

to portray to her audience how through her experiences with her mother and the Chinese language
she came to realize who she wanted to be and how she wanted to write.

Amy Tan also felt that standardized tests could not accurately determine a person s intelligence.
She effectively makes her argument by using rhetorical devices such as, I wanted to capture what
language ability tests could never reveal: her intent, her passion, her imagery, the rhythms of her
speech and the nature of her thoughts (Tan 768). When she said that standard tests cannot
determine a person s true intelligence, she was trying to say how people have different ways of
thinking and different types of intelligence, and yet these standard tests only can measure a certain
type of intelligence; therefore it really is kind of unfair, for lack of a better term.
Overall, the main idea of Tan s story is to stress that just because someone cannot speak English
to perfection does not in any way make them less intelligent than someone who is born in this
country and understands and speaks English fluently. Tan has judged and has been judged by her
language, and has seen her mother disrespected because of how she speaks but these experiences
have shaped her whole outlook on life. Through her essay, Tan wanted to send a powerful
message of how we ought to view people by their beautiful side and not by their shortcomings.

Innovation At Ike The Congruence Model
Innovation at Ikea
The congruence model includes useful components for developing a strategy that identifies and
fixes organizational problems. Santoku, 2013 describe this model as a roadmap for developing
strategy reflective of a competitive environment and considering the role of the company in
supporting any overall execution . The first step in the organizational design is to understand the
components: the environment, the resources, and the history, and how they relate.
For the first input component, environment, we have seen how Ingvar Kamprad, IKEA s founder,
used his environment situation to start his furniture business. His business maneuvers were
influenced by the needs of the residents in his small village. He moved from selling belt buckles to
self assembled tables and remains competitive through simplicity and price bargains for its
customers. Essentially, Kamprad s environment provided new market opportunities.
It is also noted that the success of the firm was influenced by its external environment in such ways:
terrorist threats alarmed many people and they found it essential to renovate their home into a safe
haven, furthermore, lagging economies contributed to a certain thriftiness in redecorating or
renovation. These factors imposed a demand for easily assembled and inexpensive furniture, which
IKEA offers.
Next, resources, which I believe IKEA signifies as important to the organization, because they have
a close corporate culture in place. At this

Navajo Healing Ceremonies Case Study
Navajo Healing Ceremonies The IRS approved deductions for Navajo healing ceremonies, which
are performed to lessen pain and eradicate curses by using songs and chants. These kinds of
alternative therapies are deductible if they re prescribed to alleviate a medical, emotional or
psychological condition. Alternative therapies that qualify for itemized medical deductions include
hydrotherapy, electroshock therapy, whirlpool baths and other treatments. Ostrich Depreciation
Appreciation A farmer from St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana depreciated his ostrich. You can
depreciate the costs of buying animals that are used in breeding if you sell the eggs or ostriches
that result from breeding the birds.[3] These costs are far from negligible because... Show more

The tax court denied the claim.[3] Claiming Grooming Expenses You can t claim normal
grooming expenses for business or personal returns in most cases. The costs of manicures,
pedicures, cosmetics and nail polish remover would seldom qualify as deductions unless you had
a compelling argument, such as a business that gives makeup and deportment training. Claiming
Deductions for a Fallout Shelter You can t claim deductions for supplying a fallout shelter as
preventive medicine. Prostitute Services You can t deduct using a prostitute as a consultant, but a
New York attorney tried to deduct $65,934 in services as medical expenses. Not satisfied with
nearly $66,000 in wacky deductions, the lawyer also tried to deduct an additional $5,000 for sex
therapy books and pornography. The IRS disallowed the deductions, and the tax court agreed that
the expenses were for the lawyer s personal welfare and not any compelling medical treatment.[6]
Business Deductions Parking tickets and the costs of any illegal activity can t be deducted as
business expenses. Other common business deductions that aren t allowed by the IRS

Lack of BTL activities, experiential marketing and social event promotion were evident which
can be one of the reasons of low recall and decline in consumption. * Considering the nature and
storage limitation of milk the consumer attitude towards milk was wobbly and strong reasons to
change the attitude were required. * Lack of support from the farmers and local milk processor
results in small budget. Considering the size of the milk industry and high promotional cost
running a successful nation wide campaign in small budget is rarely possible. Where Got Milk?
Went wrong?* Hispanics were the major milk consumers in California; there population was

Summary Of The Golden State Warriors
Management decisions and control are the focus of the chapter. The first concept was decision
making, which simply is the process of choosing a course of action regarding the business. In the
book, we are shown a 9 stage process which entailed problem perception, problem identification,
problem formulation, search for alternatives, evaluation of alternatives, choice of alternatives, start
of operation, implementation and control. Last summer when I interned with the Golden State
Warriors there was a person whose designated job was to make decisions on what the office was
going to have for lunch; and at the same time there was the CFO who sat with teams everyday

The Shipman s Tale Essay The Shipman s Tale The Shipman s Tale, one of the many tales in Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, is exactly suited to the Shipman s personality and profession as given in The Prologue. The shipman is described by Chaucer in the prologue as very sneaky, deceitful, and even pirate like. The Shipman s tale matches his personality and profession because The Shipman s Tale is one of trickery and con. The monk in the tale tricks both the merchant and the merchant s wife out of their money. He also uses his relationship with the merchant to his advantage, because he knows the merchant would never suspect him of having sex with his wife. The shipman is also portrayed in the prologue to have no sense of remorse or feelings of sorrow.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wanting to know the whole story, John promised to keep it a secret and the wife then proceeded to tell him more. She said that her husband was the worst man to ever exist since the world began. She also admits that she owes a debt of 100 francs and asks the monk for the money instead of humiliatingly asking her husband. The monk agrees to get her 100 francs under the condition that she has sex with him in return. The wife agrees to these terms. That evening the three had dinner together, after which the monk took the merchant aside and asked him if he could borrow 100 francs. He told the merchant it was going to be used to purchase cattle and the merchant handed over the money without hesitation. The following day, the merchant was on his way to Bruges. The following Sunday, the monk, remembering the promise the wife made, showed up at the house with the 100 francs. He and the merchant s wife then proceeded to have sex for the entire night. When the merchant returned he was eager to see his wife and tell her about his business transactions. But first, he went right to the abbey to see his friend the monk. He and the monk were happy to see each other and after they had a conversation about the merchant s trip, the monk mentioned that he had left the 100 francs he owed to the merchant with his wife. Once the merchant got home, he met his wife at the gate, told her his stories and then continued to enjoy a night in bed with her. When they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After a convincing 9 4 victory over the Vancouver Canucks, former Toronto Marlie and Lethbridge Hurricanes captain Tyler Wong put on a clinic against the nucks in a 4 point effort. This isn t the first time Tyler Wong has had a multi point game, as the diminutive forward tallied 109 points in 69 games in the WHL last season with the Hurricanes. Despite being 5 9, Tyler Wong has all the markings to be a successful player in the NHL. With the abundance of talent and undersized wingers the Leafs have (Bracco, Johnson, and Dzierkals to name a few), it is safe to say it would have been far near impossible for Tyler Wong to get significant playing time within the Maple Leafs organization. The people of South Africa struggle day by day to reverse the most cruel, yet well crafted, horrific tactic of social engineering. The concept behind apartheid emerged in 1948 when the nationalist party took over government, and the all white government enforced racial segregation under a system of legislation . The central issues stem from 50 years of apartheid include poverty, income inequality, land ownership rates and many other long term affects that still plague the brunt of the South African population while the small white minority still enjoy much of the wealth, most of the land and opportunities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Around 1652, the Dutch East India Company created a settlement on the cape, leading to several other indigenous peoples settling in the area as well . This tactic nearly parallels with the colonization beginning throughout the rest of the world. White supremacy gradually took over South Africa as more and more of them colonized the country, and worked their way into government positions. The English pushed the natives out and eventually did not care about race, merely about the money that came from labor . The Land Act of 1913, was believed to be the initial beginning of the apartheid laws. This act initiated by white supremacists marked the first major downfall of segregation for the colored and Indian peoples of South Africa. The Afrikans were essentially divided into nine nations and approximately 93% of the land was reserved for the white people. 2/3 of the population of South Africa at the time was considered African, or native people, and these people were all banned from freely buying land , making conditions very harsh, and malnutrition was extremely common . Urbanization occurred with white people in power simply increasing the segregation between races. Africans continued to live and work in absolutely terrible conditions. They often resided in the outskirts of cities in derisory housing, with poor sanitation, were lucky to have a bit of electricity, and had awful people to manage their workplace. The ... A statement of the problem The percentage of public elementary and secondary school students in the United States who were identified as English language learners (ELL) in the 1999 2000 school year was 6.7% of the total school population (U.S. Department of Education, 2000). The increase is in mainly in the Hispanic subpopulation and Hispanic students traditionally perform poorly on national assessments. The No Child Left Behind legislation requires that all children will have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to receive a high quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on standardized assessments (Section 1001, p. 15). As ELL student populations increase so does the pressure on teachers and schools to increase the numbers of ELL students who meet state governed reading proficiency levels. A review of the literature The researchers in this study conclude that ELL students participating in secondary tier interventions using curricula with a direct instruction approach and delivered in small groups presented greater outcomes in student progress on DIBELS assessments and for the Woodcock Reading Mastery test. The researchers cite other reading studies that have used these same assessment methods as giving validity to their use. Their study outcomes further suggest that direct instruction using evidence based reading practice in small groups of 3 5 students is a teaching method that should be employed by teachers of ELL students in order to increase ... • 27. The Importance Of Direct Democracy As citizens of the United States, Americans have the responsibility of understanding their abilities in regards to contribution to political decisions. Especially in recent years, Americans have come to realize the true significance of direct democracy or a lack thereof. Although on a federal level direct democracyis lacking, on the state level, including Californian government, direct democracy can have a significant impact on the lives of citizens. What identifies direct democracy as an important tool and a source of power for citizens is the direct power they have over legislation and/or politics hence, direct democracy; the citizens do not need approval and recognition by politicians, nor do they need to be led by them to succeed. The only ingredient required for success is the support of the masses, which is generally more plausible with an access to large sums of money. In general, there are three primary methods used in the execution of direct democracy: referendum, recall, and initiative. When citizens are unhappy over a piece of legislation that has already been ratified, it can be petitioned, and if successful, ultimately lead to a popular vote for the law this is what is known as a referendum. Referendum can come about in two prime ways legislative referendum and popular referendum. Legislative referendum is where a legislature allows the people to vote on a bill as opposed to the legislature voting on it, whereas popular referendum is an attempt to ... Overpopulation can be defined to fill with an excessive number of people, straining available resources and facilities. By 2050, the world will be apart of nine billion people. Today at least one billion people are starving or are chronically malnourished. The basic definition of being chronically malnourished is that a person will fail to grow to their full potential. If we educate people and help them understand that the need to have one or two children at the most is right, then hopefully overpopulation will get better. By performing this experiment, we were able to have a better understanding of the three phases being in equilibrium with each other. In its natural state, carbon dioxide exists as a solid. In order to exist as a liquid, the pressure required to make this phase change must be at minimum 5.11 atm. Once the solid carbon dioxide melts, the triple point is achieved through the energy that was absorbed. This point demonstrates that the three phases are now in equilibrium with one another. The starting temperature of the solid carbon dioxide was 78 degrees Celsius but after reacting with the room temperature water to reach the triple point, it increased to 56.6 degrees Celsius. When comparing our data with other groups, we found that they also noted the same changes in pressure and temperature when they performed the experiment. The Concept Of War In Shakespeare s Henry IV Part 1 Shakespeare Henry IV Tiara Stewart Todaro Simon Fanning 603 101 MQ gr.00062 December 8,2017 Word count: 856 Shakespeare Henry IV In Shakespeare s novel Henry IV Part 1, the concept of war is portrayed through different individuals. Each character perceives war differently, leading them to take independent actions. In this era, war was not perceived as a final solution to all their problems, but as a common event between rulers. To die for ones country was viewed as an act of honor, although, a certain individual disfavored this act of honor. Throughout the novel, Shakespeare s attitude reveals the unnaturalness of civil war, but also ties relationships together. Shakespeare portrays that the role of being a king, and obtaining power, could be played by anyone with the right appearance and behavior. According to King Henry, Hotspur (Lord Henry Percy) is the theme of honor s tongue, (1.1.80) implying that he is the ideal example of being an honorable king, unlike his son, Prince Hal, who spends majority of his time at the tavern. King Henry and Sir Walter Blunt agree that Hotspur would be the appropriate king of France because of his bravery, successfulness in battles and his time spent with royalty. The first step in the organizational design is to understand the components: the environment, the resources, and the history, and how they relate. For the first input component, environment, we have seen how Ingvar Kamprad, IKEA s founder, used his environment situation to start his furniture business. His business maneuvers were influenced by the needs of the residents in his small village. He moved from selling belt buckles to self assembled tables and remains competitive through simplicity and price bargains for its customers. Essentially, Kamprad s environment provided new market opportunities. It is also noted that the success of the firm was influenced by its external environment in such ways: terrorist threats alarmed many people and they found it essential to renovate their home into a safe haven, furthermore, lagging economies contributed to a certain thriftiness in redecorating or renovation.
