What Role Does The Chorus Play In Medea
Discuss the importance of the role that the Chorus plays in Euripedes Medea.
br
br The Chorus is very much an important part of Euripedes Medea, and indeed many other works
written in the ancient Greek style. In this play, it follows the journey Medea makes, and not only
narrates, but commentates on what is happening. Euripedes uses the Chorus as a literary device to
raise certain issues, and to influence where the sympathies of the audience lie.
br
br In the list of characters at the beginning of the play, the Chorus is stated to be a chorus of
Corinthian Women. This draws the first link between them and Medea. The Chorus follows Medea on
her journey through this play. They act as narrators on important occurrences in the play; ... Show

When Medea married Jason, she married herself to him for life. She was expected to be totally
obedient and to accept whatever her husband willed. For her to look upon another man other than her
husband would have been totally unacceptable. Whereas Jason marries another woman while he is still
married, and then it is Medea who is banished from Corinth. However, the audience s response to this
type of situation would most likely have been different in Euripedes time, to today. Obviously one can
t know this for sure, but one can deduce it from what we know of that era. Although some wouldn t
have condoned Jason s actions, many would have seen it as normal because it would have been a
much more common occurrence then than today. Nonetheless, in presenting these sort of issues in a
moralistic play to the audience of the day was a brave and controversial thing to do. Obviously, the
views on the these issues have come along way since the time when this play was written, so today s
audience adapts the messages in this play to their own morality. The treatment of women, and of
Medea, and the circumstances that Medea is faced with, help the audience to, not condone, but
understand the reasons for Medea s actions at the end of the play.
br
br The opinion of the audience on characters other than Medea is also influenced by the Chorus. After
the audience hears what Jason has done to Medea in the way of marrying another

Evil Vs Probabilism
The problem of evil, if one believes in the great and powerful God, is something that most will think
about at some point in their life. It s one of the greatest objections to the existence of God. It s
basically the problem of figuring out to what extent does the existence of evil count against the
existence of God or if it even does at all. First and foremost, we can most likely come to an agreement
that when thinking of the sufferings and evil in the world we think of either inhumane acts or natural
disaster, both of which we d assume God could prevent being that he s the creator of everything. With
that being said, most will agree that there are two types of the problem of evil, the emotional and
intellectual. A lot of people will experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says if free will does exist then the above claims can not be true. Which destroys that whole
argument. God created the circumstance in which a person is able to make a free choice he can not
determine the choice they will choose. God doesn t create evil but it can t be avoided without giving
us free will. This supports the all knowing, all powerful, and all good God. This only solves the
inhumane acts though. The evil committed on purpose by human beings. It doesn t solve the natural
evil which is the things we can not be blamed for, such as the plates below the surface moving.
Therefore, the problem of evil still goes

Dependent Personality Disorder Case Study
Individuals with this disorder are usually needy for attention, social contact, and appraisement. This
should not be confused with dependent personality style, which is healthy . Dependent personality
disorder is a pathological version of the dependent personality style. It occurs after a triggering event
and is a maladaptive response. Those with dependent personality disorder have submissive
personalities, try to minimize difficulties, think uncritically, and in turn are susceptible to
suggestibility. They look for a great deal of advice. In relationships, their behavior is self sacrificing
and constantly requires the reassurance of others, leading to subtle reliance for others to take
responsibility in major areas of their life. They have problems starting tasks and sticking to them on
their own, but are able to do this for others if assigned to them. Because of these attributes, they avoid
positions of leadership. Their emotional style is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Is It Better To Stand Alone
It is better to stand alone for what is right than to be part of a crowd that is wrong. In our society today
teenagers are constantly faced with peer pressure. Wether out with friends or in a classroom, people
constantly try to influence our decisions. Some may influence our lives for the better but some may
not. An example of negative peer pressure present in todays world is teenage drinking. This example
easily shows how it is better to stand alone for what one believes is right (not drinking) rather than
giving in to peer pressure to fit in with the crowd. It can be hard to say no to your friends because of
our natural human desire to fit in and feel included in something. When we do stand alone for what is
right we show courage and independence.

Gumption By Russell Baker Essay
Mind Numbing Clichés Success is a determinant of the amount of work put in to achieve it. People
assume the only jobs that expel an odor of success are doctors, lawyers, and businessmen. This cliché
is challenged in the essay, Gumption written by Russell Baker. Baker expresses his struggle with
staying true to his idle personality, while still pleasing his mother s aspirations of raising a resourceful
businessman. Baker s essay outlines the idea that clichéd lives may complement success, but clichés
do not always complement happiness. Baker begins his essay by explicating his mother s unfailing
determination to extricate inactivity from his lethargic personality. You ve got no more gumption than
a bump on a log (Baker 1). This comparison made by Baker s mother vividly exhibits her non
complacent attitude towards Baker s inactivity. His mother s discontent with his character was further
tarnished by the fact that his sister allotted a personality that overflowed with gumption. Doris could

My mother reached into her bottomless supply of maxims and told Doris, An apple a day keeps the
doctor away (Baker 6). By the time I was ten I had learned all my mother s maxims by heart (Baker

of discourse is the perfect way to capture an audience s attention. Baker explicates that the one maxim
that served to be the most irritating was the one about success. The one I most despised was, If at first
you don t succeed, try, try again (Baker 6). This is not surprising that a maxim depicting success is the
one that is the most irritating to Baker because most of his childhood included his mom hampering
down on him about being successful in business. The career oriented strife he faced most of his child
life is keenly evident

Voltaire
Voltaire s Letters on England is a collection of written documents that Voltaire wrote between 1726
and 1729 on his experiences he had while staying in England. After its publication in French in 1734,
many people of French ethnicity saw it as a bashing of the French government, and even a little bit on
the Catholic religion. Voltaire does seem to be fairly favorable towards the English in his letters,
which is understandable after he was exiled in his homeland of France multiple times. In many cases
Voltaire saw in England what he wished to see in France. In England, Voltaire saw a land with a more
tolerant government, and freedom of religion as compared to France, which he saw as cruel and
oppressive. Voltaire goes into detail, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the many issues brought up in Letters on England that the French took as a slight
towards themselves after the letters were published. I believe that Voltaire was so firm on his belief of
a separation of religion and state because he himself was not a follower of any said religion. Although
Voltaire was not an atheist as many believed him to be. Voltaire did not believe that a person did not
have to be involved in any one religion to believe in God. Voltaire believed in a higher power one
supreme, intelligent being but not in any one particular religion. Although there are aspects of the
Anglicans that Voltaire does seem to disapprove of, he does believe the Anglicans to be more virtuous
than the French Catholics; another insult to the French people. In morals the Anglican clergy are more
virtuous than the French, and this is why....They are not called to the higher positions in the church

Face Off
简介
Face/Off is a 1997 action film directed by John Woo, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. The
two both play an FBI agent and a terrorist, sworn enemies who assume the physical appearance of one
another.
内容
The film exemplifies gun fu and heroic bloodshed action sequences, and has Travolta and Cage each
playing two personalities. It was the first Hollywood film in which Woo was given complete creative
control and was acclaimed by both audiences and critics. Eventually grossing $245 million worldwide,
Face/Off was a financial success, as well as Woo s highest grossing American film.
Freelance terrorist Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage) is relentlessly pursued by FBI Special Agent Sean
Archer (John Travolta). Years earlier, Castor, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To Woo s credit, he doesn t stick strictly to action. Face/Off is only in overdrive for about two thirds of
its running length. The rest of the movie is devoted to such mundane tasks and plot exposition,
character and relationship development, and ruminations on philosophical issues like identity. While
there s very little of the latter (certainly not enough to turn off viewers who don t like their action
leavened with anything intellectual), there is enough to give Face/Off an interesting subtext. How
much of who we are is determined by our physical appearance? And, if we re given the face of
another, how like that person are we likely to become? These issues aren t explored too deeply, but, to
Woo s credit (and to that of the screenplay, by Mike Werb amp; Michael Colleary), they are addressed.
Such weighty questions are posed because the two main characters swap faces and identities. Sean
Archer (John Travolta) is a dedicated federal officer whose obsession with bringing down one
particular master criminal, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), has blinded him to all other concerns. Six
years ago, Troy s attempt to kill Archer went wrong, and Archer s young son was killed. Since then, a
thirst for revenge has driven the FBI agent to pursue Troy with a single minded relentlessness that has
alienated both his wife (Joan Allen) and his teenage daughter (Dominique Swain). When the latest

Dear King George III and the Parliament of Great Britain, It has come to our attention that it appears
that you have forgotten how to treat the citizens of your colonies. Parliament continues to barraid us

and house them. We have made an attempt to reach out to you with our olive branch petition, and you

Secretary of Education Recommendation Paper
DaWayne D. Nettles
Columbia College
2015
The Secretary of Education report charts the future of United States higher education and outlines
various recommendations to improve it. As higher education evolves in unexpected ways, this new
landscape demands innovation and flexibility from the institutions that serve the nation s learners. The
recommendations mentioned include assess, cost and affordability, financial aid, learning,
transparency and accountability, and finally innovation. One of the most significant recommendations
that needs to definitely be address is the issue of cost and affordability of higher education.
The way higher education is being financed is becoming increasingly dysfunctional. State
appropriations are declining; educational cost is rising; and cost per student is increasing faster than
inflation or family income. Affordability is directly affected by a financing system that provides
limited incentives for colleges and universities to take aggressive steps to improve institutional
efficiency and productivity. Public worry about increasing expenses might eventually add to the
disintegration of open trust in higher education. Only through reform can confidence in higher
education in America be renewed. The Secretary of Education s report states that America must ensure
that our citizens have access to high quality and affordable educational, learning, and training
opportunities throughout

construction of arguments. Is this just an annoying habit? Is it crucial for having a happy life? How do
you think this kind of thinking (rational judgments, asking questions) will relate to your own career?
How do you think our lives would be different today if we did not ask questions but simply accepted
the knowledge and traditions of our ancestors? I think the more in depth you ask and continuously ask
questions is crucial to having a happy life because happiness starts within yourself. Asking questions

Observation Of A Piglet
On September 10th 2017 Mr. Striker placed out 10 dead baby piglets in the body farm at Wabash
Heartland Career Center. The piglets all had different factors and the piglets where all still born.
Before the body farm even started we wrote theories on questions that we were given and what we
would think would happen to each piglet in different factors. We started observing these piglets on
September 11th 2017. We observed these piglets for three weeks until mostly all of the piglets where
decomposed all the way to bones. The piglet that was burned (piglet 2) was the one to decompose the
fastest out of the natural state piglet in the grass (piglet 1) and a buried piglet (piglet 10). My initial
thought was correct that piglet 2 would decompose fastest due to less skin for the bugs to get through
the skin and get inside of the piglet. Piglet 2 decomposed on day 9 it was completely bones with no
skin or flesh left on the bones due to maggots and other insects. Piglet 1 still had maggots on its legs
on day 9 and was decomposed on day 11 with only bones left. The piglet 10 still has not been
completely decomposed on day 15. The speed of decomposition is different when the piglet is naked
on the black top (piglet6) or a clothed piglet on black top (piglet 7). My initial thought was that piglet
6 would decompose faster because there would be one less layer to get through than on piglet 7. I was
correct that the piglet 6 did decompose faster than piglet 7. However the clothes

Analysis Of The Nothing That Is A Natural History Of Zero...
The Nothing that is about Everything The Nothing That Is A Natural History of Zero by Robert
Kaplan is a book literally a book about the number zero and how it was formed. He takes the reader on
a journey through time and shows the transformation of not just zero but numbers in general from
multiple countries and empires. Kaplan starts off his book by describing zero and what its possibilities
are in the world. Then he jumps into the Sumerians who were one of the first to create a number
system comprised of stick that had a triangle on the top. Slowly their number system evolved but
never had a zero. They started making place holders for the larger numbers and assigning different
sizes to the shapes in order to show a larger amount. He then moves on to the Greeks who he credits
the discovery of zero. It is believed that the O came from the Greek word omicron which is the first
letter of ouden or nothing. Zero was not originally used to show the absences of something but as a
place holder or a space between other numbers. It was then used by Greek astronomers as anything
from minutes and seconds to degrees but still not as zero today. It wasn t until 730 AD that the Greeks
used an informal way to show zero. They would count using their fingers and zero was a relaxed hand.

The Differences in Laws and Privacy in the United States...
In Computer Security what are the differences in laws and privacy between United States vs.
European Union? Do the laws that a society have in place deter computer hacking or should we
require to have better systems and technology to prevent such an attacks. In reviewing the US s
Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and the changes that have been made to improve computer security in
the private sector, to see if these enough to protect our systems from cybercrimes? Will the addition of
the Aaron law to this act going to improve computer security? Is the government just playing with
terms and phase, or can this amendment true help protect our systems and how will hacking be

happened bases compared to the European Union and does not clearly define the modern issue that we

The Computer Fraud Abuse Act (18 USC 1030) is legislation that was first enacted in 1986 to clarify
the existing computer fraud law created in 1984 it helped to identify and speak to malicious code and

Non Excludability And Non Rivalrous Consumption
Imagine this: a car with a newly repaired suspension and a recent alignment job on four new tires
driving on a poorly maintained road filled with holes. In the span of ten minutes, the car has driven
over four potholes about half of a foot deep, and the two thousand dollars that were spent on the car
are all wasted in that short drive. Public goods are a large part of our life. The condition of the roads
we drives on and the sidewalk we walk on, the jobs we get, and the house we can afford to live in are
all influenced directly by the public goods. According to Tyler Cowen, professor of Economics at
George Mason University, public goods are anything that has non excludability and non rivalrous
consumption. In other words, it cannot be kept from those who do not contribute and can be used by

on vastly different levels. Because public goods are funded through taxes, the income gap in various
areas of the metropolitan area plays a huge factor in the distribution of the goods. A wealthier region s
tax fund is significantly higher because of the higher price range, especially on everyday goods and
the availability of services. One great example is Milton High School located in North Fulton County

digit average. Milton has an above Georgia average in both mathematics and English,

Student Loan Loans Should Not Be Educational Opportunities...
i. Student loan defaults in China
In the context of entering the mass higher education stage, the ideology of cost sharing and equity in
higher education is now widely accepted as a must do in China, and there is a tradeoff in which
colleges can charge tuition fees in exchange for better financial aids to students from disadvantaged
groups. Thus, implementing a student loan scheme to ensure educational opportunities for needy
students is the primary choice for the Chinese government. Nowadays the availability of student loans
has been significantly improved while the issue of debt collection is still not addressed. In other
words, high default rates will further negatively impact the sustainability of student loans.
On behalf of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Student borrowers who do not immediately pursue further education typically must begin making
monthly payments on their loans after graduation. In the first 3 year grace period, they are only
requested to repay interests, and then pay off their loans up to 20 years.
By the end of 2013, 3.13 million graduates had entered repayment period, and the total balance of
outstanding student debt was 16.35 billion RMB, which accounted for around one third of the total
volume. Most notably, the default rate by principal plus interest amount was 4.13% and the ratio of
students who defaults is 3.95% in 2013. To be detailed, the default rate of school based student loans
was 9.46% whereas that of home based student loans was only 0.22% . However, based on loan
recovery statistics of 30 provinces, the highest default of home based student loans went up to 17.46%
. Compared to over 30% default rate of some extreme cases in the year of 2004 , the default rate on
student loans has declined substantially in recent years, but it remains a significant challenge to sound
operation of student loan schemes. ii. Negative Impacts of High Defaults
Given student loan has no collateralized debt, and it takes long to realize money back, it is rational for
lending banks to choose risk prevention strategies like raising interest rates or limiting

Enuma Elish Religion
In the Enuma Elish poem, a reminder of Christianity is evident when Marduk (a god) says, I shall

Hebrew belief declares that God says, Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness... (New

U.s. Foreign Tax Credit
The income earned by the U.S. individuals and corporations in the foreign countries or foreign source
are taxed by the U.S. government, even though other countries also tax any income earned within their
borders. To offset this double taxation of income by two different countries, the U.S. grants both
individuals and corporations a foreign tax credit (FTC) that can be used to offset income taxes
assessed by a foreign country on the income earned there (Foreign Tax Credit, FTC, n.d.). The FTC is
allowable for foreign income taxes and other similar taxes, such as excess profit and war profit taxes.
However, only income taxes qualify for the credit. The Value Added Taxes (VAT) and property, sales
and severance taxes do not qualify, although they may be deductible.
Eligible FTC Income
The foreign tax credit can only reduce U.S. taxes on foreign source income; it cannot reduce U.S.
taxes on U.S. source income. It is generally better to take a credit for qualified foreign taxes than to
deduct them as an itemized deduction because credit reduces the tax liability dollar for dollar. (Foreign
Tax Credit Choosing To Take Credit or Deduction, n.d. ).
Claiming a deduction may be preferable to claiming the foreign tax credit if the foreign tax rate and
the proportion of foreign income to United States income is high. The tax should be computed both
ways to determine the larger benefit. Unless the de minimis exception applies, the FTC is calculated
on Form 1116. Corporations must file

Why Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Should Be Banned
Are you guys wondering how dangerous and deadly cigarette are? Today I am going to be discussing
why Cigarette and other tobacco products should be banned. My first reason is that annually, one of
every five deaths in the U.S. is related to smoking, due to conditions such as pneumonia, bronchitis,
lung cancer and emphysema, according to the CDC website. Cigarette smoking costs the U.S. more
than $193 billion, including money in lost productivity due to illness and death, and money used for
health care that the smoker is unable to pay for himself.
Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, including 43 known cancer causing.
Did you know that one of every five deaths in the U.S. is related to smoking, yes smoking causes allot

interview and hiring process will help to eliminate the hiring of unqualified candidates whose only
experience with the work is through a personal connection with existing employees. This will help to

improperly stored materials, but also reduces the risk management threat of theft by employees. These
are the ethical considerations of several of the recommended changes. Upon deciding whether to make

Boo Radley Analysis
A Life in the Darkness Are some people really as horrible as others depict them? At the beginning of
the book To Kill a Mockingbird, many readers believe that Boo Radley is extremely malicious and
psychotic, but in reality, this is not the case. For example, this quotation shows how Jem, the main
character s brother, assumes Boo is demented: Nobody knew what form of intimidation Mr. Radley
employed to keep Boo out of sight, but Jem figured that Mr. Radley kept him chained to the bed (14).
Throughout the story, many people s ideas about Boo Radley change, especially in the end when he
rescues the children. Boo Radley, whose real name is Arthur Radley, is reclusive, but at the same time,
he is immensely heroic and compassionate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This part shows Arthur s heroism because if he had not fixed the pants, Jem, Scout, and Dill would
have been in a massive amount of trouble. Atticus tells the kids to stop harassing Arthur, but they
persist, and in the end, Arthur saves them. Close to the end of the novel, when Scout and Jem are
being followed by Bob Ewell, Arthur Radley comes out of his house, stabs Bob (who would have
killed both the children), and then takes Jem, who is extremely injured, back to the Finch house.
Because Arthur does not usually come out of his house, this part comes as a surprise to all readers and
shows that Arthur Radley is a hero. Lastly, despite the children s original ideas about Arthur Radley,
he turns out to be an extremely compassionate man. First of all, Arthur gives Jem and Scout little
trinkets indirectly by using a knothole in a tree until Nathan Radley patches the hole up. Arthur gives
the children a watch, chewing gum, and many varieties of knick knacks. Second, when Miss Maudie s
house burns down, Jem and Scout are cold, and they receive a blanket anonymously from Arthur.
Third, after Bob Ewell attacks Jem and Scout in the woods, Arthur takes Jem back to his house and
then, later, strokes Jem s cheeks affectionately. Scout tells Arthur, You can pet him, Mr. Arthur, he s
asleep. You couldn t if he was awake, though, he wouldn t let you... (372). Although this action may
seem strange at first, Arthur s choice to pet Jem shows how much compassion

TRAVEL, in the younger sort, is a part of education, in the elder, a part of experience. (Francis

People from different age groups have different motive behind traveling. Children travel to have fun
or learn something new. Whereas adults travel to experience different things. Either ways everyone

There are several places to travel to, it depends on the traveler where he wishes to go and what is his
main objective. The general classification of places is by hill stations, beaches, desert, busy cities, etc.
Each of these places has their own charm and beauty. Not to forget these places also have a certain
time period to be visited in for the best experience. But that is applicable only when u have to visit the
place for a holiday time and not for a business trip. Travelling to take a gap from our busy schedule is
very good for health. It relaxes our mind and makes it all fresh for the work. It is advisable to take a
trip between busy schedules to calm our mind. Besides, if a person is stationary for a longer period of
time, he becomes monotonous. Travelling to various places broadens our mindset and refreshes our
brain. A visit to a place imparts practical knowledge of important places, persons, things and the
nature of people. (http://www.preservearticles.com/201104265980/essay on travelling.html) Travelling
educates a man to a very good extent. As a traveler moves from places to places he has idea of

The Controversy Of Stem Cell Research
The Controversy of Stem Cell Research The ethics of research involving fetuses or material derived
from fetuses have been widely debated for over three decades, portrayed by its proponents as holding
the key to scientific and medical breakthrough and by its opponents as devaluing the most basic form
of human life. The latest chapter in this long saga involves the use of embryonic stem cells. Research
in this field took a great leap forward in 1998, when the first successes in growing human stem cells in
culture were reported independently by Drs. James Thomson and John Gearhart. According to the
National Institutes of Health, embryonic stem cell research promises...possible cures for many
debilitating diseases and injuries, including Parkinson s disease, diabetes, heart disease, multiple
sclerosis, burns, and spinal cord injuries. The NIH believes the potential medical benefits of human
pluripotent stem cell technology are compelling and worthy of pursuit in accordance with appropriate
ethical standards (National Institutes of Health 2000). Research in this new and developing field has
sparked controversy centered on the moral implications of destroying human embryos and poses
several compelling ethical questions. Among them: Does life begin at fertilization, in the womb, or at
birth? Might the destruction of a single human embryo be justified if it can alleviate the pain and
suffering of many patients? In order to properly understand the moral implications argued

Different Research Strategies With Distinctive...
4.3.1 Mixed Methods
There are various different research strategies with distinctive characteristics available from which a
researcher may select, based on the previous criteria. Yin (2003) and Saunders et al. (2009) recognized
that granting numerous research strategies occur, there are great commonalities amongst them and
henceforth the significant contemplation would be to choose the greatest useful strategy for a
particular research study. Some of the typical research approaches used in business and management
are experiment, questionnaires, case study, action research and grounded theory and ethnography,
archival research, cross sectional studies, longitudinal studies and participative enquiry. This action is
relevant to the statement of Johnson Onwuegbuzie (2004) who agreed that some researchers have
integrated several different metrics to create mixed methods classificatory systems. In sum, there is as
of yet no discrete list of mixed methods design options and so researchers should plan to develop a
design that answers their research questions within the constraints and boundaries of the study context.
Also, Onwuegbuzie and Teddlie (2003) agreed that the researcher propose the term mixed model be
used to distinguish research designs assimilating qualitative and quantitative data from those who
simply engage both forms of information. These embrace transformative plans that alter one type of
information into a different one (most frequently

Blanche Dubois Delusions Essay
Dealing with the harsh truths of life can be tough for anyone to cope with which is why people tell
themselves lies. These lies are called life lies a falsehood people tell themselves to rationalize the
lifestyle they are living or actions they have committed. Tennessee Williams and Henrik Ibsen
investigate how life lies can turn into delusions a state of mind or way of life, when they are used to
cope with the stressors of everyday life. Williams protagonist, Blanche DuBois, was a former southern
belle forced to move in with her sister, Stella, after her husband s suicide and being evicted from Belle

character. To do so, she lied to the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She [couldn t] stand a naked lightbulb in Stella s house because of the fear it would expose her too
blatantly to the very people from whom she tried to hide (Williams 60). Williams used the word naked
, instead of another synonym, to describe the vulnerable and delicate position Blanche would be in if
her lies are disclosed. She believed that if she hid herself physically, her dark, internal self would thus
be hidden. No one especially Stella, Stanley, and Mitch, the people closest to her would be able to see
through the barrier of lies she created to cope with the death of her husband and her past which
devastated her. She was forced to face her biggest fear when he (Mitch) [turned] on the light and
[stared] at her. She [cried] out and [covered] her face , as to mourn the death of her facade (Williams
145). As soon as Mitch turned on the light, Blanche knew every part of her being, including her
appearance and character, were utterly exposed to a man whom she desired to appear to as
wholesome. It was as if she was in pain when the light hit her which was symbolic of how painful it
would be if she came to terms with the truth. Blanche, then, [covered] her face to keep herself from
total indecency in front of Mitch and keep the most vulnerable, valuable part of herself hidden and,
therefore, wholesome. Williams used short, blunt sentences to make a statement and emphasize her
fear. At the end of the

Rose For Emily Isolation
A Rose for Emily is a short story written by William Faulkner. The story follows a southern town after
the civil war and with the death of Miss Emily. As the town gossips about the mysterious house that
no one has been inside for the past ten years, the secrets that Miss Emily had been hiding in the house
is also discussed. The story then picks up before Emily s death when her father dies. After being in
denial that her father is gone, she meets a man, Homer, and begins dating him. Shortly after, Emily
buys an arsenic and invites Homer to her house, even though he is not the marrying type. The town
never see s Homer after that night and rarely sees Emily. A smell starts to arise from the house and her
taxes pile up. Ten years later, Miss Emily dies and the town finally goes inside. What they find is a

The South said goodbye to slavery and started to become industrialized. Many, including Miss Emily,
did not like it. Faulkner pays close attention to the dying south and uses specific elements, like the old
southern house, to symbolize living in the past. In addition to the house, Homer, a Yankee, is
introduced into Emily s life. Perhaps she killed Homer because he represented change and the north,
or perhaps she was just crazy. Either way Miss Emily had an issue of clinginess. For three days after
her father s death, she refused to believe that he was gone. She also kept Homers body for ten years,
maybe because she was upset that her father was taken away. Although Emily s father rejected any
man that she brought over, perhaps keeping Homer was a way to get what she always wanted, a man
in her life. The reasons behind Emily s psychological behaviors vary. Although Miss Emily was
already crazy, isolating herself was the true cause of her destruction and sick

  • 2. What Role Does The Chorus Play In Medea Discuss the importance of the role that the Chorus plays in Euripedes Medea. br br The Chorus is very much an important part of Euripedes Medea, and indeed many other works written in the ancient Greek style. In this play, it follows the journey Medea makes, and not only narrates, but commentates on what is happening. Euripedes uses the Chorus as a literary device to raise certain issues, and to influence where the sympathies of the audience lie. br br In the list of characters at the beginning of the play, the Chorus is stated to be a chorus of Corinthian Women. This draws the first link between them and Medea. The Chorus follows Medea on her journey through this play. They act as narrators on important occurrences in the play; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Medea married Jason, she married herself to him for life. She was expected to be totally obedient and to accept whatever her husband willed. For her to look upon another man other than her husband would have been totally unacceptable. Whereas Jason marries another woman while he is still married, and then it is Medea who is banished from Corinth. However, the audience s response to this type of situation would most likely have been different in Euripedes time, to today. Obviously one can t know this for sure, but one can deduce it from what we know of that era. Although some wouldn t have condoned Jason s actions, many would have seen it as normal because it would have been a much more common occurrence then than today. Nonetheless, in presenting these sort of issues in a moralistic play to the audience of the day was a brave and controversial thing to do. Obviously, the views on the these issues have come along way since the time when this play was written, so today s audience adapts the messages in this play to their own morality. The treatment of women, and of Medea, and the circumstances that Medea is faced with, help the audience to, not condone, but understand the reasons for Medea s actions at the end of the play. br br The opinion of the audience on characters other than Medea is also influenced by the Chorus. After the audience hears what Jason has done to Medea in the way of marrying another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Evil Vs Probabilism The problem of evil, if one believes in the great and powerful God, is something that most will think about at some point in their life. It s one of the greatest objections to the existence of God. It s basically the problem of figuring out to what extent does the existence of evil count against the existence of God or if it even does at all. First and foremost, we can most likely come to an agreement that when thinking of the sufferings and evil in the world we think of either inhumane acts or natural disaster, both of which we d assume God could prevent being that he s the creator of everything. With that being said, most will agree that there are two types of the problem of evil, the emotional and intellectual. A lot of people will experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... God created the circumstance in which a person is able to make a free choice he can not determine the choice they will choose. • 4. Dependent Personality Disorder Case Study Individuals with this disorder are usually needy for attention, social contact, and appraisement. This should not be confused with dependent personality style, which is healthy . Dependent personality disorder is a pathological version of the dependent personality style. It occurs after a triggering event and is a maladaptive response. Those with dependent personality disorder have submissive personalities, try to minimize difficulties, think uncritically, and in turn are susceptible to suggestibility. They look for a great deal of advice. In relationships, their behavior is self sacrificing and constantly requires the reassurance of others, leading to subtle reliance for others to take responsibility in major areas of their life. They have problems starting tasks and sticking to them on their own, but are able to do this for others if assigned to them. Because of these attributes, they avoid positions of leadership. • 5. Why Is It Better To Stand Alone It is better to stand alone for what is right than to be part of a crowd that is wrong. In our society today teenagers are constantly faced with peer pressure. Wether out with friends or in a classroom, people constantly try to influence our decisions. Some may influence our lives for the better but some may not. An example of negative peer pressure present in todays world is teenage drinking. This example easily shows how it is better to stand alone for what one believes is right (not drinking) rather than giving in to peer pressure to fit in with the crowd. It can be hard to say no to your friends because of our natural human desire to fit in and feel included in something. When we do stand alone for what is right we show courage and independence. ... • 6. Gumption By Russell Baker Essay Mind Numbing Clichés Success is a determinant of the amount of work put in to achieve it. People assume the only jobs that expel an odor of success are doctors, lawyers, and businessmen. This cliché is challenged in the essay, Gumption written by Russell Baker. Baker expresses his struggle with staying true to his idle personality, while still pleasing his mother s aspirations of raising a resourceful businessman. Baker s essay outlines the idea that clichéd lives may complement success, but clichés do not always complement happiness. Baker begins his essay by explicating his mother s unfailing determination to extricate inactivity from his lethargic personality. You ve got no more gumption than a bump on a log (Baker 1). This comparison made by Baker s mother vividly exhibits her non complacent attitude towards Baker s inactivity. His mother s discontent with his character was further tarnished by the fact that his sister allotted a personality that overflowed with gumption. Doris could have made ... By the time I was ten I had learned all my mother s maxims by heart (Baker 6). The use of clichés allows Baker s writing to be relatable to most of his readers. This alluring choice of discourse is the perfect way to capture an audience s attention. Baker explicates that the one maxim that served to be the most irritating was the one about success. The one I most despised was, If at first you don t succeed, try, try again (Baker 6). This is not surprising that a maxim depicting success is the one that is the most irritating to Baker because most of his childhood included his mom hampering down on him about being successful in business. The career oriented strife he faced most of his child life is keenly evident ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Voltaire Voltaire s Letters on England is a collection of written documents that Voltaire wrote between 1726 and 1729 on his experiences he had while staying in England. After its publication in French in 1734, many people of French ethnicity saw it as a bashing of the French government, and even a little bit on the Catholic religion. Voltaire does seem to be fairly favorable towards the English in his letters, which is understandable after he was exiled in his homeland of France multiple times. In many cases Voltaire saw in England what he wished to see in France. In England, Voltaire saw a land with a more tolerant government, and freedom of religion as compared to France, which he saw as cruel and oppressive. Voltaire goes into detail, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is one of the many issues brought up in Letters on England that the French took as a slight towards themselves after the letters were published. I believe that Voltaire was so firm on his belief of a separation of religion and state because he himself was not a follower of any said religion. Although Voltaire was not an atheist as many believed him to be. Voltaire did not believe that a person did not have to be involved in any one religion to believe in God. Voltaire believed in a higher power one supreme, intelligent being but not in any one particular religion. Although there are aspects of the Anglicans that Voltaire does seem to disapprove of, he does believe the Anglicans to be more virtuous than the French Catholics; another insult to the French people. In morals the Anglican clergy are more virtuous than the French, and this is why....They are not called to the higher positions in the church until very late in life and at an age when men have no other passion than avarice, when their ambition has little to feed on. The two both play an FBI agent and a terrorist, sworn enemies who assume the physical appearance of one another. 内容 The film exemplifies gun fu and heroic bloodshed action sequences, and has Travolta and Cage each playing two personalities. It was the first Hollywood film in which Woo was given complete creative control and was acclaimed by both audiences and critics. To Woo s credit, he doesn t stick strictly to action. Face/Off is only in overdrive for about two thirds of its running length. The rest of the movie is devoted to such mundane tasks and plot exposition, character and relationship development, and ruminations on philosophical issues like identity. While there s very little of the latter (certainly not enough to turn off viewers who don t like their action leavened with anything intellectual), there is enough to give Face/Off an interesting subtext. How much of who we are is determined by our physical appearance? And, if we re given the face of another, how like that person are we likely to become? These issues aren t explored too deeply, but, to Woo s credit (and to that of the screenplay, by Mike Werb amp; Michael Colleary), they are addressed. Such weighty questions are posed because the two main characters swap faces and identities. Sean Archer (John Travolta) is a dedicated federal officer whose obsession with bringing down one particular master criminal, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), has blinded him to all other concerns. Six years ago, Troy s attempt to kill Archer went wrong, and Archer s young son was killed. Since then, a thirst for revenge has driven the FBI agent to pursue Troy with a single minded relentlessness that has alienated both his wife (Joan Allen) and his teenage daughter (Dominique Swain). Parliament Of Great Britain Analysis Dear King George III and the Parliament of Great Britain, It has come to our attention that it appears that you have forgotten how to treat the citizens of your colonies. Parliament continues to barraid us with unlawful and ridiculous taxes and acts without granting us any form of representation in Parliament, and no, virtual representation is not representation, regardless of whatever George Greenville says. • 14. Secretary Of Education Report Charts The Future Of United... Secretary of Education Recommendation Paper DaWayne D. Nettles Columbia College 2015 The Secretary of Education report charts the future of United States higher education and outlines various recommendations to improve it. As higher education evolves in unexpected ways, this new landscape demands innovation and flexibility from the institutions that serve the nation s learners. The recommendations mentioned include assess, cost and affordability, financial aid, learning, transparency and accountability, and finally innovation. One of the most significant recommendations that needs to definitely be address is the issue of cost and affordability of higher education. The way higher education is being financed is becoming increasingly dysfunctional. State appropriations are declining; educational cost is rising; and cost per student is increasing faster than inflation or family income. Affordability is directly affected by a financing system that provides limited incentives for colleges and universities to take aggressive steps to improve institutional efficiency and productivity. Public worry about increasing expenses might eventually add to the disintegration of open trust in higher education. Only through reform can confidence in higher education in America be renewed. The Secretary of Education s report states that America must ensure that our citizens have access to high quality and affordable educational, learning, and training opportunities throughout ... The piglets all had different factors and the piglets where all still born. Before the body farm even started we wrote theories on questions that we were given and what we would think would happen to each piglet in different factors. We started observing these piglets on September 11th 2017. We observed these piglets for three weeks until mostly all of the piglets where decomposed all the way to bones. The piglet that was burned (piglet 2) was the one to decompose the fastest out of the natural state piglet in the grass (piglet 1) and a buried piglet (piglet 10). My initial thought was correct that piglet 2 would decompose fastest due to less skin for the bugs to get through the skin and get inside of the piglet. Piglet 2 decomposed on day 9 it was completely bones with no skin or flesh left on the bones due to maggots and other insects. Piglet 1 still had maggots on its legs on day 9 and was decomposed on day 11 with only bones left. The piglet 10 still has not been completely decomposed on day 15. The speed of decomposition is different when the piglet is naked on the black top (piglet6) or a clothed piglet on black top (piglet 7). My initial thought was that piglet 6 would decompose faster because there would be one less layer to get through than on piglet 7. I was correct that the piglet 6 did decompose faster than piglet 7. The Nothing that is about Everything The Nothing That Is A Natural History of Zero by Robert Kaplan is a book literally a book about the number zero and how it was formed. He takes the reader on a journey through time and shows the transformation of not just zero but numbers in general from multiple countries and empires. Kaplan starts off his book by describing zero and what its possibilities are in the world. Then he jumps into the Sumerians who were one of the first to create a number system comprised of stick that had a triangle on the top. Slowly their number system evolved but never had a zero. They started making place holders for the larger numbers and assigning different sizes to the shapes in order to show a larger amount. He then moves on to the Greeks who he credits the discovery of zero. It is believed that the O came from the Greek word omicron which is the first letter of ouden or nothing. Zero was not originally used to show the absences of something but as a place holder or a space between other numbers. It was then used by Greek astronomers as anything from minutes and seconds to degrees but still not as zero today. It wasn t until 730 AD that the Greeks used an informal way to show zero. Non Excludability And Non Rivalrous Consumption Imagine this: a car with a newly repaired suspension and a recent alignment job on four new tires driving on a poorly maintained road filled with holes. In the span of ten minutes, the car has driven over four potholes about half of a foot deep, and the two thousand dollars that were spent on the car are all wasted in that short drive. Public goods are a large part of our life. The condition of the roads we drives on and the sidewalk we walk on, the jobs we get, and the house we can afford to live in are all influenced directly by the public goods. According to Tyler Cowen, professor of Economics at George Mason University, public goods are anything that has non excludability and non rivalrous consumption. In other words, it cannot be kept from those who do not contribute and can be used by multiple people at the same time. In the Atlanta metropolitan area, the distribution of public goods is on vastly different levels. Because public goods are funded through taxes, the income gap in various areas of the metropolitan area plays a huge factor in the distribution of the goods. A wealthier region s tax fund is significantly higher because of the higher price range, especially on everyday goods and the availability of services. One great example is Milton High School located in North Fulton County where income averages are in the sixth digit and Banneker High School in South Fulton with a five digit average. Foreign Tax Credit The income earned by the U.S. individuals and corporations in the foreign countries or foreign source are taxed by the U.S. government, even though other countries also tax any income earned within their borders. To offset this double taxation of income by two different countries, the U.S. grants both individuals and corporations a foreign tax credit (FTC) that can be used to offset income taxes assessed by a foreign country on the income earned there (Foreign Tax Credit, FTC, n.d.). The FTC is allowable for foreign income taxes and other similar taxes, such as excess profit and war profit taxes. However, only income taxes qualify for the credit. Close to the end of the novel, when Scout and Jem are being followed by Bob Ewell, Arthur Radley comes out of his house, stabs Bob (who would have killed both the children), and then takes Jem, who is extremely injured, back to the Finch house. Because Arthur does not usually come out of his house, this part comes as a surprise to all readers and shows that Arthur Radley is a hero. • 36. The Controversy Of Stem Cell Research The Controversy of Stem Cell Research The ethics of research involving fetuses or material derived from fetuses have been widely debated for over three decades, portrayed by its proponents as holding the key to scientific and medical breakthrough and by its opponents as devaluing the most basic form of human life. The latest chapter in this long saga involves the use of embryonic stem cells. Research in this field took a great leap forward in 1998, when the first successes in growing human stem cells in culture were reported independently by Drs. James Thomson and John Gearhart. According to the National Institutes of Health, embryonic stem cell research promises...possible cures for many debilitating diseases and injuries, including Parkinson s disease, diabetes, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, burns, and spinal cord injuries. The NIH believes the potential medical benefits of human pluripotent stem cell technology are compelling and worthy of pursuit in accordance with appropriate ethical standards (National Institutes of Health 2000). Research in this new and developing field has sparked controversy centered on the moral implications of destroying human embryos and poses several compelling ethical questions. Among them: Does life begin at fertilization, in the womb, or at birth? Might the destruction of a single human embryo be justified if it can alleviate the pain and suffering of many patients? In order to properly understand the moral implications argued ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Different Research Strategies With Distinctive... 4.3.1 Mixed Methods There are various different research strategies with distinctive characteristics available from which a researcher may select, based on the previous criteria. Yin (2003) and Saunders et al. (2009) recognized that granting numerous research strategies occur, there are great commonalities amongst them and henceforth the significant contemplation would be to choose the greatest useful strategy for a particular research study. Some of the typical research approaches used in business and management are experiment, questionnaires, case study, action research and grounded theory and ethnography, archival research, cross sectional studies, longitudinal studies and participative enquiry. This action is relevant to the statement of Johnson Onwuegbuzie (2004) who agreed that some researchers have integrated several different metrics to create mixed methods classificatory systems. In sum, there is as of yet no discrete list of mixed methods design options and so researchers should plan to develop a design that answers their research questions within the constraints and boundaries of the study context. Also, Onwuegbuzie and Teddlie (2003) agreed that the researcher propose the term mixed model be used to distinguish research designs assimilating qualitative and quantitative data from those who simply engage both forms of information. These embrace transformative plans that alter one type of information into a different one (most frequently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These lies are called life lies a falsehood people tell themselves to rationalize the lifestyle they are living or actions they have committed. Tennessee Williams and Henrik Ibsen investigate how life lies can turn into delusions a state of mind or way of life, when they are used to cope with the stressors of everyday life. Williams protagonist, Blanche DuBois, was a former southern belle forced to move in with her sister, Stella, after her husband s suicide and being evicted from Belle Reve, her family home. She [couldn t] stand a naked lightbulb in Stella s house because of the fear it would expose her too blatantly to the very people from whom she tried to hide (Williams 60). Williams used the word naked , instead of another synonym, to describe the vulnerable and delicate position Blanche would be in if her lies are disclosed. She believed that if she hid herself physically, her dark, internal self would thus be hidden. No one especially Stella, Stanley, and Mitch, the people closest to her would be able to see through the barrier of lies she created to cope with the death of her husband and her past which devastated her. She was forced to face her biggest fear when he (Mitch) [turned] on the light and [stared] at her. She [cried] out and [covered] her face , as to mourn the death of her facade (Williams 145). As soon as Mitch turned on the light, Blanche knew every part of her being, including her appearance and character, were utterly exposed to a man whom she desired to appear to as wholesome. It was as if she was in pain when the light hit her which was symbolic of how painful it would be if she came to terms with the truth. Blanche, then, [covered] her face to keep herself from total indecency in front of Mitch and keep the most vulnerable, valuable part of herself hidden and, therefore, wholesome. The story then picks up before Emily s death when her father dies. After being in denial that her father is gone, she meets a man, Homer, and begins dating him. Shortly after, Emily buys an arsenic and invites Homer to her house, even though he is not the marrying type. The town never see s Homer after that night and rarely sees Emily. Either way Miss Emily had an issue of clinginess. For three days after her father s death, she refused to believe that he was gone. She also kept Homers body for ten years, maybe because she was upset that her father was taken away. Although Emily s father rejected any man that she brought over, perhaps keeping Homer was a way to get what she always wanted, a man in her life. The reasons behind Emily s psychological behaviors vary. Although Miss Emily was already crazy, isolating herself was the true cause of her destruction and sick ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
