The Bounded Decision-Making Process
The more frequently a person fills up the gasoline tank in their vehicle, the more likely they are to
consider purchasing a hybrid vehicle in the future. The proposed hypothesis is based on bounded
rationality. The cognitive decision making process allows for individuals to search for and review
alternative options and select the alternative that is most beneficial for the situation. Conversely,
cognitive dissonance, the condition of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs or attitudes towards an
attitude object (in this case, the attitude object would be the gasoline that you are filling your tank
with), limits the alternatives in the decision making process and occurs due to bounded rationality.
Bounded rationality simply means that

King Lear Summary
The play, King Lear by William Shakespeare, starts with noblemen Kent and Gloucester having a
conversation and the audience finds out that Gloucester has two sons. Edgar who is his heir, and
Edmund his unimportant son. This info. leads to the mini plot. Then, Lear enters to say that he is
going to end his life s tasks and problems. He then points to the map, he tells the people there that he
will split his land into three parts. They are going to be given to his three daughters. The two oldest,
Goneril and Regan, tell their father that their love for him goes beyond expectations. The youngest

Goneril tells Lear that he needs a smaller troop, more decorous in behavior and better suited to the
king s rank and age. The king is very angry and says he will pack up his people and move to Regan s
palace. Lear s anger continues to build, and he calls upon nature to curse Goneril s womb. In response,
Goneril turns out 50 of Lear s retinue. As the subplot develops, Edmund wounds himself slightly,
pretending that Edgar has attacked him. Certain that Edgar will also try to kill him, Gloucester
promises to find the means to make Edmund his heir. After his escape into the woods, Edgar decides
that he will disguise himself as a Bedlam beggar, who will be known as Poor Tom. Meanwhile,
Cornwall orders an impassioned Kent placed in the stocks. Lear arrives and quickly realizes that
Regan has joined Goneril in seeking to reduce Lear s authority. Lear reminds his daughters that he
gave them all that they now enjoy, but they are unmoved. An angry Lear calls for his horse, and rides
into the storm with his Fool for protection. Exposed to the storm, the Fool attempts to reason with his
king, but Lear will have no part of submission, especially before his daughters. Soon the king and
Fool are joined by Edgar disguised as Poor Tom. Gloucester tells Edmund of the plot to save the king,
unaware that he is divulging the plans to a traitor. Edmund immediately resolves to tell Cornwall of
the plan. Edmund soon receives his reward: Gloucester s title and lands. The captured

Examples Of Mistreatment And Inequality In The 13th Amendment
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall
have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States (Lantigua Williams). As stated in the
constitution, the Thirteenth amendment states that no person can be treated as a slave; the exception to
this statement is the fact that the revision to the constitution says that anyone who is convicted of a
crime can be treated like a slave. African Americans have been oppressed since they were brought
over from Africa; consequently, they are constantly fighting the war on racism and having numerous
struggles to overcome. The 13th shows in detail the different forms of mistreatment and inequality that
people of color experience. Ava Duverney uses exceptional historical evidence, different forms of
media, and expert advice to show that ever since the passage of the Thirteenth amendment, there has
been an increase in the incarceration statistics of African Americans. Ironically, the United States is
commonly called the land of the free, but five out of twenty five percent of the world s population is
incarcerated in the American prison system (Filmmaker). Duverney s main topic that she focuses on in
her film is the loophole that was present in the Thirteenth amendment. To avoid a public display of
slavery, the police force arrested people, particularly African American men, based on false
accusations or for minor offenses. On April 19, 1989, three teenagers were accused

Everyday Use And Cathedral Analysis
Sam Thomas 4/17/2018 Copeland The Beauty Within If you were to look upon a mall parking lot no
car, blade of grass, person or piece of clothing would be the same. In society today, those with
deformities or abnormalities will always be looked down by a few people for being indifferent when
they shouldn t. In Everyday Use and Cathedral there are characters with deformities who struggle to
be viewed as equals in all eyes. However, the role of a deformity in Cathedral is more significant
because of the way Carver uses irony and symbolism to illustrate the way society looks at those with
deformities and how an insight into Robert s struggles changes the narrator s perspective of Robert s
and his own life. Carver establishes his use of symbolism and irony initially when describing the tapes
that Robert and the wife would send each other. For example, he initially asked her to send him a tape
and tell him about her life which continues with many tapes over the years about aspects and struggles
of each other s lives (78). This is consequential because it shows how the tapes, only filled with stories
and feelings, transcended the deformity itself and allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the narrator thinks about the different aspects of life Beulah missed out on with Robert
being blind and thinks what a pitiful life this woman must have led not being able to physically see the
person you love every day (79). This is ironic because Robert and Beulah knew Robert never needed
to physically look at his wife to be able to love and connect with her, all he needed was to be with her
because true love exists when people love each other for who they are, imperfections and all. Carver s
use of the narrator s statement immediately allows the reader to pick up that it is ironic because you
truly love someone for who they are as a person not by what they are

The Common Fruit Fly By Gregor Mendel
Abstract:
The basis of genetics were established by Gregor Mendel, an Augustinian monk in the mid to late
1800 s. Through the observations from cross pollinating pea plants, Mendel was able to discover the
basic laws of inheritance. Years later genetics would be studied on a multitude of organisms, some
more than others. Drosophila melanogaster or the common fruit fly has been studied in depth for its
great advantages, such as size, reproduction rate, ease of care and inexpensive room and board.
In this experiment we tested to see what the offspring of an unknown cross of an F1 generation would
produce. After observing the F2 generation and recording the data we found some of the Drosophila
showed mutations, two in particular. The mutations were the apterus wings, and sepia eyes. After
collecting our data through observation, a Chi test was conducted resulting in a Chi value of 5.1 and a
p value of .2. Since the p value was greater than 0.05, there was no significant change in the data. This
proved that the Drosophila flies still followed the Mendelian genetics of a 9:3:3:1 ratio.

Analysis And Interpretation Of Blood Evidence Left Behind...
Bloodstain pattern analysis is the examination and interpretation of blood evidence left behind at a
crime scene. It is based on the principles of biology (behavior of blood), physics (cohesion and
capillary action and velocity) and mathematics (geometry, distance, and angle) according to National
Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) guide. The analyst is tasked with classifying the type of
bloodstain and assisting in reconstructing the events leading up to the act that caused the bloodshed.
This is accomplished by examining the size, shape, distribution and location of the bloodstains. There
are several different types of patterns, and spatter from the bloodstains can be found on multiple
surfaces in many different forms.
My focus is on blood spatter which is a common bloodstain that occurs when a blood source is met
with a certain level of force or impact. Origin and trajectory are crucial, complex components in
painting a picture of what happened. In Richard Safferstein s text (2011), Criminalistics: An
Introduction to Forensic Science, he explains that interpreting bloodstains can yield the following
information:
The direction from which blood originated
The angle at which a blood droplet struck a surface
The location or position of a victim at the time a bloody wound was inflicted
The movement of a bleeding individual at the crime scene
The minimum number of blows hat struck a bleeding victim
The approximate location of an individual

Pact Of Umar Essay
Pact of Umar
The Pact of Umar was written during the time of Umar Ibn Al Khattab the second caliphate that reined
the Muslim community of believers from the years 634 to 644 CE. It was a pact of agreement and
peace between Muslims and those under their rule, as Umar s time was known for its expansion by
ruling the Sassanian Empire and more than two thirds of the Byzantine Empire, creation of the Diwan
and having a decentralized policy of state. Umar was known as a powerful and influential Muslim
man, known for his juristic nature of distinguishing between what is right and wrong, he was named

A pact like the one during Umar s time was a source of restrictive regulations on non Muslims from
the shari aa where they would live in Muslim countries and freely express their religion, similarly,
during the time of the Prophet, when he moved to Madina, also known as Yathrib, the place had three
main communities there were the Ansar, Muhajeroun and Jews. The Prophet let them live with them,
made a pact of peace; they were a bit redundant but agreed in the end until they broke the pact and
allied with Quraysh into killing the Prophet and were expelled from Madina after the downfall of
Quraysh. The constitution between Muslims, non Muslim Arabs and Jews of Madina was written,
approved and preserved some of the major contents were that no believer shall oppose the client of
another believer, they will not be injured nor any enemy will be aided against them, the Jews shall
contribute to the cost of war, they shall maintain their own religion and the Muslim theirs, each if

Essay On Social Conventions In The Age Of Innocence, By...
In The Age of Innocence Edith Wharton greatly emphasizes the social conventions and unwritten rules
of New York society in the late 19th century. The characters believe that what is and what is not the
thing to do has the utmost importance. Wharton introduces this in the second chapter with, Few things
seemed to Newland Archer more awful than an offense against Taste, that far off divinity of whom
Form was the mere visible representative and vicegerent. (Wharton, 14). While these social
conventions may seem arbitrary and meaningless as time passes, the people within a society are bound
to them because the consequences of not following them are too great. If a person chooses to reject
these social principles, they are ostracized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this is the wedding scene at the beginning of Book Two. Newland has learned that
May pushed the wedding up and is now preparing to marry May. Although he knows May isn t the
right woman for him he goes on with the wedding anyway. In this scene, words with primitive
connotations such as rite and ritual are used to signify the unbreakable nature of the social
conventions. Wharton writes that Archer had gone through this formality as resignedly as through all
the others which made of a nineteenth century New York wedding a rite that seemed to belong to the
dawn of history. (153). Edith Wharton purposefully uses diction in this scene to draw attention to the
nature of societal customs in New York. By emphasizing the prehistoric nature of the ritual and by
calling a wedding a rite that seemed to belong to the dawn of history Wharton calls to attention the
duty that members of society have. People in this society must follow the rite and ritual because it has
been this way seemingly since the beginning of time. Breaking this custom would be like going
against society and would cause

Herbal and Alternative Remedies
HERBAL AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICATIONS
Herbal remedies come from plants. If possible, choose a remedy which has been standardized, i.e. the
contents are approximately the same in each bottle or tablet you buy. Plant remedies are not always
safer than ordinary medicines. All of them can have side effects and interact with other medicines.
Supplements include vitamins, minerals and animal and plant products, such as cod liver oil. They can
also have side effects and interact with other medicines. Some people take supplements, like vitamin
C in high doses, but this can damage the liver or kidneys. Many supplements have a recommended
daily intake (RDI), or allowance (RDA). Do not go beyond this dose without talking to an experienced
health professional.
CAMs and mental health problems:
Many CAMs have been used for mental health problems, but there is little good evidence to support
their use. Some of these treatments may work, but most have not been thoroughly tested. The studies
have often been too small to give a clear answer. We know most about the treatments for depression,
anxiety and insomnia. Despite the lack of evidence, people all over the world take CAMs, and many
report that they find them helpful. Ultimately, whether taking CAMs is a good idea depends on
individual circumstances. We recommend that you talk to your GP or mental health team first.
If you are considering taking CAMs, you should seek specialist advice if:

Dry Wood Termites Essay
ability of dry wood termites to live in dry wood without outside moisture or contact with the ground,
however, makes them a definite menace in the regions where they occur. Their destruction is not rapid,
but they can thoroughly riddle timbers with their tunnelling if allowed to work undisturbed for many
years. Non subterranean termites are often moved from structure to structure in infested items such as
furniture (TC, 1996). 2.5.3 Activities of termites Termites are widely dispersed throughout the tropics
as well as some temperate regions and they play vital ecological roles such as nutrient cycling and
ecosystem engineering (Kemabonta et al., 2014). Termites construct shelter tubes, also known as
earthen tubes or mud tubes that start from the ground. These shelter tubes can be found on walls and
other structures. Constructed by termites during the night, a time of higher humidity, these tubes
provide protection to termites from potential predators, especially ants (Hadlington, 1996). Shelter
tubes also provide high humidity and darkness and allow workers to collect food sources that cannot
be accessed in any other way. These passageways are made from soil and faeces and are normally
brown in colour. The size of these shelter tubes depends on the amount of food sources that are
available. They range from less than 1 cm to several cm in width, but ... Show more content on

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
In his novel, Les Miserables, Victor Hugo identifies the principle social evils of French society
through the actions and qualities of his characters. By depicting each of his characters struggles
through destitute and oppressed measures, Hugo is able to identify the social errors of 19th century
France. The fact that characters such as Valjean, Javert, Fantine, and Cosette, attempt to rise above
poverty and redeem themselves indicate that such inequalities did, and still do, exist to this day.
Through the use of feminist ideals and the criminal injustice system, Hugo attacks the principle social
evils that each of his characters face in Les Miserables.
In the early 19th century, most women were subject to gender discrimination and viewed as weaker
components in France. One of the first characters attacked by such injustice is the former factory
worker and prostitute, Fantine. Having been discovered as a mother of an illegitimate child, Fantine is
thrown out of the work place and turns towards prostitution instead. Deprived of hope and redemption,
Fantine endures through much suffering and harassment from her male superiors in order to provide
for her child. While walking down the street one evening, Fantine passes by a man, who, taking
advantage of the moment when she turns... seizes a handful of snow from the sidewalk, and throws it
hastily down her back between her naked shoulders (69). Enraged, Fantine lashes out at the man, only

Mourning and Melancholia in Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell...
Mourning and Melancholia in Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls Ernest Hemingway s For Whom
the Bell Tolls (1940) begins with a quotation from John Donne s Meditation XVII. With this epigraph,
Hemingway identifies the source of his title and defines the connections achieved between human
beings through mourning.: Donne s argument begins, No man is an island, and it concludes with an
assertion of our bond to the dead: never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. Proper
mourning acknowledges the losses to our self in the death of another. Hemingway s For Whom the
Bell Tolls depicts such connections to the dead and examines the emotional effects of incomplete
mourning in terms that parallel Freud s own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both works, Hemingway praises the volunteers who died fighting to protect republican values. In an
introduction to the Eulogy written after World War II, Hemingway scolded America for its failure to
support these premature antifascists (Nelson 26). At another point, he explains this failure: The
majority of the career diplomats of England, France, and the United States , are fascist, and it is they
who supply the erroneous information on which their foreign offices and state departments act (Hem
on War, 293). The ideologies of the diplomats led to the great bloodbath of the Second World War.
Hemingway helps us to mourn the deaths of Jordan and the other volunteers because he affirms that
they are, in fact, unacknowledged instances of our own losses. Yet, many of the volunteers in the
International Corps during the Spanish Civil War felt betrayed by Hemingway s depictions of literary
and historical characters and events. Some of the veterans criticized the lack of political ideology in
the central character, the literary self indulgence of the love relationship between Jordan and Maria,
and the negative depictions of several of the leaders of the Republican forces. Pilar s narrative
describing the massacre of civilian villagers provoked the sharpest criticism. According to Milton
Wolff, many veterans felt that Hemingway had 2 Page 3 ignored fascist atrocities and betrayed loyalist
soldiers who had been killed or wounded in Spain. Wolff also

Totalitarianism In 1984
Totalitarianism is a type of regime that all the residents of a country are completely controlled by their
government. Unlike Democracy, people who live under totalitarianism do not truly possess their
human rights at all. The government s orders are their only belief. In George Orwell s famous political
novel named 1984 , he portrays how people live under totalitarianism and how totalitarian government
tries to maintain its power to control over people thus the individual s instinct is limited. Under the
government s tortures, the main character named Winston Smith is forced to vaporize his own

Women s Property Rights
Throughout history, whether women had property rights was a significant indicator of women s status.
Women who had property rights were able to distinguish their own property from those of her husband
s and were able to create a separate property inheritance line. This gave space for women to have their
own heir and thus giving them more power. Women s status had declined throughout medieval Japan
because property rights were taken away from them. Women were no longer independent and were
restricted in many ways. However, despite the fact that women were not able to inherit property, some
women were still able to have power managing the properties. The property rights of women of
warrior status changed drastically. The establishment of the house system during the later Kamakura
period took away power from women. In the early Kamakura period women as daughters were able to
inherit freely just as sons. Tonomura provides an example in her article that, In the early Kamakura
period, daughter had as good a chance of being included in the division of family property as did sons,
to the extent that a father would grant land with the stewardship title to Nagaharume [daughter] s child

Benefits Of Higher Education
A higher education can help with people s emotional state and the health of that person. There is also
the case that you don t have to be in college for that long to start working and gain a high paying
wage. And. beyond money, education seems to make people happier and healthier
(D). Not only does seeking a higher education gets you a higher paying wage it also makes you a
happier person. This could work by the interaction with fellow students on the campus and more

When gaining a higher education the wage is actually going down not up. On the graph it shows that
from 2001 to 2010 the wage difference is slowly declining(Source C). The graph is showing that when
looking at how much a college graduates makes after college it isn t as much as it use to be. There isn
t going to be a substantial wage growth for the new college graduates. A higher education may not be
what everyone thinks it is, being a source to making more money when you get out of high school.
When the wages are going down for the college graduates, then it becomes apparent how expensive
college really is. College cost is exceedingly high as of right now and may become higher as time goes
by. Both cost and demand for college education have grown significantly in the years since Mr. Thiel
was a student. He sees that rise as irrational (E). College is starting to become more expensive and it
doesn t make sense that it is according to Mr. Thiel. There is no way to see if it will get higher, but if it
does then is college really worth the price. The price of college is going up and the wage for new
college graduates is starting to decrease. People are starting to realize this and just want to start
making money to support a family as soon as they can. Two thirds say a major reason for not
continuing their education is the need to support a family. Also 57 percent say they would prefer to

Mean Rabbitss Research Paper
Rabbits can be nice, but they can also be very spiteful. Never just put your hand into a rabbit s cage
that looks like it is feeling threatened or looks very scared and tense. A rabbit could be nice one day
then be ready to attack the next day. They may fool you by how cute they look but they have a
temperament just like any other animal. Each rabbit has their own personality so you should never
judge all rabbits by how one rabbit acts. You may think that you can t run by genetics and penalize a
rabbit for being mean cause it has the chance to pass that gene on, but someone else might cause they
don t want to keep mean rabbits or sell someone a mean rabbit. This behavior is a 50, 50 chance of

recessive due to the gene popping up in later generations after not popping up in previous generations.
Along with the personality trait being genetic, it can also be caused by hormones. Lots of things can

The particular community I consider to be affiliated with is the local dirt track race car community.
Dirt track racing is a sport in which race cars perform on a dirt or clay surfaced oval track. There are
various race car classes that range from Hornets which are considered the least expensive all the way
up to the Modified, which is the most expensive class of race car to run on the race track. I personally
identify myself to be included in such a community due to the fact that ever since I was the age of
four, my father took up the sport of racing Modified s every weekend from March to October, and this
is ultimately how I was introduced to the race track family (community). At the age of six my brother

From the second you pull up to the race track you catch a glimpse of the oval shaped, quarter mile
clay track that contains four sharp turns. As soon as you exit your vehicle, you are faced with a distinct
odor of the sweet smell of cherry race fuel that is burning off of the race cars preparing to go out onto
the race track from the pit area. The pit area is the location of the race track where all the racer car
drivers and pit crew members park, fine tune, and tweak their set ups on their race cars for the
particular track. The adjustments and set ups of the races cars are vital due to the fact that every set up
is unique to each and every track due to the different shapes. Another factor that the race car drivers
and pit crew members have to take into consideration are the condition of the track, this is due to the
fact that a dry track utilizes a different set up than a tacky track, which is a track that is sticky due to

The Thing In The Apartment By John William Ross
Since the first sound film in 1927, filmmakers employed tools to create sound effects and complete the
illusion (Cavalcanti, 1939). The use of sound became essential to the quality of films, particularly in
fiction where the audience seeks entertainment and thrill. Indeed, Rockett (1982) notes that music,
background noises and sounds effects are the elements creating a particular mood or atmosphere.
This theory is notably applicable to the horror genre, as its specificity is to incite fear and play on the
viewer s nerves. According to Rockett, horror is indeed primarily a sound based medium (1982).
Horror films sounds play with emotions, for instance with abrupt shifts up and down in pitch. As Gron
states, these sound contrasts function as priming mechanisms , playing with spectators expectations of
the scare (2013). These theories lead to the importance of recognising what makes an efficient sound
track to frighten the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this short refers to most conventions of horror films and does not shine by the originality of
the storyline, it does produce a very effective tension with regards to its short length. In this piece, I
will outline to what extent the sound of this short is powerful in creating tension and dread. I will first
set out the storyline and explain how The Thing in the Apartment characterises classical features of the
horror genre. Secondly, I will analyse the role of silence and background noise in shaping horror, as
well as highlighting how the sound contrasts inspire

Native American And The American Of Native Americans
The Native American population has suffered many tragedies at the hands of the United States
government, from their first interactions through the mid twentieth century. Government policies
concerning American Indians worked in conjunction with the prejudices harbored by the majority of
the white population in the United States to suppress Native American liberties and strip them of their
cultural identity. These policies gave little to no regard for Native American customs, personal
expression, or the future of Native American traditions, and had profound effects on the Native
American individuals and families who encountered them. The boarding school policies enacted by
the United States government regarding Native Americans that were formulated to encourage the
destruction of native customs and force an entire race to assimilate into white American culture
ultimately led to the alienation of Native Americans from their native heritage and a loss of their
personal sense of self. Several government policies were created to control the attire and language of
Native Americans. Among these were targeted regulations regarding how Native American students in
boarding schools were to dress, act, and speak, oftentimes against their will or traditions. It was
common for students to be prohibited from speaking their native language, encouraged instead to read,
write, and speak in English only. One of the General Rules in Rules for Indian Schools explicitly
states that all

This happens because steroids lower the bodies level of cortisol. This acts as a hormone that the
adrenal gland discharges when a person feels stressed. The hormone can cause a lot of problems for a
person s body. Normally, cortisol regulates a person s immune system, boosts their blood sugar,
regulates muscle tissue, controls inflammation, and retains fat to help protect the body. When the
amount of cortisol in the body lowers, people start to gain muscle and strength rapidly. The use of
steroids allows people to have more rigorous workouts and a faster recovery form them. They also
help them quicken the healing process from an injury. Many times, people who are taking steroids, do
not take them every day. They use a process known as cycling. This means the athletes take an
injection with a certain time period passing between each. If they take it every day, the body will start
malfunctioning and they could stop producing testosterone (Allen, 2017). This can affect how
different parts of people s bodies work

Standardized Tests In Schools
School is supposed to be a place where children learn and are prepared to conquer themselves and the
real world, but are there real potential being overseen and shunned? A person described as being of
low ability now, in the present, is assumed to have more limited learning potential than those who may
be judged to be more able , says Claire Taylor. Does this mean that students who could be exemplary
at things such as therapy, math, reading, or S.T.E.M., could potentially be overlooked, simply because
they don t have the right environment to stretch their legs and prove their potential?
I feel like I have the ability to do a lot of things, but the way the school system is set up, I also feel like
I m unable to present my real abilities, Says Skylar Gold of Omaha Middle School. It probably doesn t
help that students who are lucky enough to be in programs such as Algebra, or IMPACT make the
other students feel insecure. Just because they can recite the Gettysburg Address, doesn t mean they re
smart enough to be able to realize that being narcissistic towards those students only limits their
potential more. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Space Of Space Exploration Essay
Introduction
One of the greatest unknowns within our human existence is life outside of our known universe;
decades of research, teamwork and funding have manifested phenomenal scientific triumphs in the
fields of space exploration and aeronautics. The forefront of this Space Race arguably began with the
Sputnik, a Russian artificial satellite launched in the late 1950 s. Following the launch of Sputnik 1,
the genesis of American competitive space exploration built roots in the formation of NASA under the
Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration was
founded in 1958 under a premise of competitive space exploration and continued discovery of truths
residing outside of our existence on planet Earth. NASA externally competes with other teams of
space explorers, which primarily includes Russia s Federal Space Agency, commonly called
Roscosmos. However, moving away from Cold War competitiveness and the race to build the biggest
and best rockets, NASA has fostered over fifty years worth of the most fortified and cohesive
teamwork in the fields of science and aerospace engineering.
The unwavering cohesion of NASA engineers, scientists and explorers has exclusively demanded the
best and brightest to work on their teams. External pressures both on and off of the deployed NASA
spacecraft render their employees to work with the strongest teamwork achievable between their
highly diverse team members. NASA continues to recruit

The Design Tool That I Will Use For My Research
The design tool that I will use for my research case of study is the survey. Survey represents one of the
most frequent types of quantitative in social science research. By utilizing the method of survey
research, as a researcher I can cull a sample of respondents from a population and administers a
uniform questionnaire to them; in this case the children ages 10 13 yrs old and their parents from an
aftercare program. The questionnaire, or survey, will be an indicated document that will be
consummated by the person that will be surveyed, throughout a questionnaire, a face to face interview,
or a telephone interview. By utilizing a survey, will accumulate data from diminutive populations that
every so often referred to as the macrocosm of a study. According to Bradburn and Sudman (1988) the
benefits of using this tool over other tools are: Surveys are quite less expensive. Surveys are utilizable
in unfolding the characteristics of an astronomically immense population. No other method of
observation can provide this general competence. They can be administered from remote locations
utilizing mail, email or telephone. Consequently, prodigiously and sizably voluminous samples are
feasible, making the results statistically consequential even when analyzing multiple variables. Many
questions can be given as a topic giving considerable litheness to the analysis. There is flexibility at
the engenderment phase in deciding how the questions will be administered: as

the relationship between phytoplankton and detritus, microorganisms and other decaying matter

individuals benefit from the association. The food webs of Numbinbah and Hastings Point visualized a
common mutualistic relationship that detritus and microorganisms are eaten mainly from primary
consumers such as mollusucs (The primary consumers pink barnacle, common limpet, sea stars,
chiton and blue periwinkle) and insects (flies, moths and ants). The connection between the mosquito
and the detritus in the Numbinbah Food Web, can be also classified as parasitism which is where one
organism benefits at the expense of another organism. Mosquitos feed on the blood of the organism
and may cause diseases such as malaria towards the host. Another connection between the two webs is

I Have Always Had A Passion For Mathematics Essay
I have always had a passion for mathematics. Outside of school, I did sudokus, measured my entire
house, made graphs, and even created my own problems to explore mathematics. I would do all of my
work, including tests, without a calculator just to challenge myself and do more math. As the concepts
increased in difficulty, the subject became even more fun for me. The dedication and creativity
required in advanced mathematics have only empowered my enthusiasm for mathematics. The
problem solving within mathematics and the love I had for the subject inspired me to become a
teacher. Because of my enthusiasm for mathematics, I became the tutor for the Math Lab at Gardner
Webb. With this job, I am available to students struggling in one hundred level mathematics courses
every week. This has allowed me to share my excitement for math. I focus on the problem solving,
almost puzzle like aspect of mathematics and show students how fun solving problems could be. I
share my passion for the subject with students who had the very opposite view of mathematics as me
and, by the end of each semester, students began to have fun with the problems with me! My passion
gives them motivation to persevere through their homework. My time in the Math Lab has helped me
discover my value of passion in the classroom. I want to share my excitement for math with my
students just like what I have done in the Math Lab. I have found that, if learners care for and like the
subject they are learning about,

There, Ms. Alisberg and Mr. Albano, both lawyers, both in their early 40 s, pulled lists from their

baby from their own eggs and sperm. They read the lists aloud and then, because it was too windy to

The Secretary of Defense believed that only with ground forces could the United States contain
Communism.Although Latin America was not an aggressive threat, the poverty of the people was
dangerous. United States investors in Latin America were associated with the ruling classes, and the
people often were against the U.S. as a result. In addition, Communists used every opportunity to
exploit unrest by promising distribution of money to the people. The Progress was intended to provide
funds for social programs and to help in promoting democratic facilities. Although the program was
never fully known, some improvements were made in education and in health care. One of President
Kennedy s best long term programs was the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty that he signed with the Soviet
Union. Russian nuclear tests in 1961 broke an unofficial test ban, which had lasted for three years.
After the Russians resumed their tests, the United States also began testing. At first, the United States
tests were underground, but later they resumed testing in the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean. Both
countries realized that they were endangering the health and the lives of people and agreed to sign the

  • 2. The Bounded Decision-Making Process The more frequently a person fills up the gasoline tank in their vehicle, the more likely they are to consider purchasing a hybrid vehicle in the future. The proposed hypothesis is based on bounded rationality. The cognitive decision making process allows for individuals to search for and review alternative options and select the alternative that is most beneficial for the situation. Conversely, cognitive dissonance, the condition of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs or attitudes towards an attitude object (in this case, the attitude object would be the gasoline that you are filling your tank with), limits the alternatives in the decision making process and occurs due to bounded rationality. Bounded rationality simply means that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on King Lear King Lear Summary The play, King Lear by William Shakespeare, starts with noblemen Kent and Gloucester having a conversation and the audience finds out that Gloucester has two sons. Edgar who is his heir, and Edmund his unimportant son. This info. leads to the mini plot. Then, Lear enters to say that he is going to end his life s tasks and problems. He then points to the map, he tells the people there that he will split his land into three parts. They are going to be given to his three daughters. Goneril tells Lear that he needs a smaller troop, more decorous in behavior and better suited to the king s rank and age. The king is very angry and says he will pack up his people and move to Regan s palace. Lear s anger continues to build, and he calls upon nature to curse Goneril s womb. In response, Goneril turns out 50 of Lear s retinue. As the subplot develops, Edmund wounds himself slightly, pretending that Edgar has attacked him. Certain that Edgar will also try to kill him, Gloucester promises to find the means to make Edmund his heir. After his escape into the woods, Edgar decides that he will disguise himself as a Bedlam beggar, who will be known as Poor Tom. Meanwhile, Cornwall orders an impassioned Kent placed in the stocks. Lear arrives and quickly realizes that Regan has joined Goneril in seeking to reduce Lear s authority. Lear reminds his daughters that he gave them all that they now enjoy, but they are unmoved. An angry Lear calls for his horse, and rides into the storm with his Fool for protection. Exposed to the storm, the Fool attempts to reason with his king, but Lear will have no part of submission, especially before his daughters. Soon the king and Fool are joined by Edgar disguised as Poor Tom. Gloucester tells Edmund of the plot to save the king, unaware that he is divulging the plans to a traitor. • 4. Examples Of Mistreatment And Inequality In The 13th Amendment Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States (Lantigua Williams). As stated in the constitution, the Thirteenth amendment states that no person can be treated as a slave; the exception to this statement is the fact that the revision to the constitution says that anyone who is convicted of a crime can be treated like a slave. African Americans have been oppressed since they were brought over from Africa; consequently, they are constantly fighting the war on racism and having numerous struggles to overcome. The 13th shows in detail the different forms of mistreatment and inequality that people of color experience. Ava Duverney uses exceptional historical evidence, different forms of media, and expert advice to show that ever since the passage of the Thirteenth amendment, there has been an increase in the incarceration statistics of African Americans. Ironically, the United States is commonly called the land of the free, but five out of twenty five percent of the world s population is incarcerated in the American prison system (Filmmaker). Duverney s main topic that she focuses on in her film is the loophole that was present in the Thirteenth amendment. To avoid a public display of slavery, the police force arrested people, particularly African American men, based on false accusations or for minor offenses. On April 19, 1989, three teenagers were accused ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Everyday Use And Cathedral Analysis Sam Thomas 4/17/2018 Copeland The Beauty Within If you were to look upon a mall parking lot no car, blade of grass, person or piece of clothing would be the same. In society today, those with deformities or abnormalities will always be looked down by a few people for being indifferent when they shouldn t. In Everyday Use and Cathedral there are characters with deformities who struggle to be viewed as equals in all eyes. However, the role of a deformity in Cathedral is more significant because of the way Carver uses irony and symbolism to illustrate the way society looks at those with deformities and how an insight into Robert s struggles changes the narrator s perspective of Robert s and his own life. Carver establishes his use of symbolism and irony initially when describing the tapes that Robert and the wife would send each other. For example, he initially asked her to send him a tape and tell him about her life which continues with many tapes over the years about aspects and struggles of each other s lives (78). This is consequential because it shows how the tapes, only filled with stories and feelings, transcended the deformity itself and allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, the narrator thinks about the different aspects of life Beulah missed out on with Robert being blind and thinks what a pitiful life this woman must have led not being able to physically see the person you love every day (79). This is ironic because Robert and Beulah knew Robert never needed to physically look at his wife to be able to love and connect with her, all he needed was to be with her because true love exists when people love each other for who they are, imperfections and all. Carver s use of the narrator s statement immediately allows the reader to pick up that it is ironic because you truly love someone for who they are as a person not by what they are ... • 6. The Common Fruit Fly By Gregor Mendel Abstract: The basis of genetics were established by Gregor Mendel, an Augustinian monk in the mid to late 1800 s. Through the observations from cross pollinating pea plants, Mendel was able to discover the basic laws of inheritance. Years later genetics would be studied on a multitude of organisms, some more than others. Drosophila melanogaster or the common fruit fly has been studied in depth for its great advantages, such as size, reproduction rate, ease of care and inexpensive room and board. In this experiment we tested to see what the offspring of an unknown cross of an F1 generation would produce. After observing the F2 generation and recording the data we found some of the Drosophila showed mutations, two in particular. The mutations were the apterus wings, and sepia eyes. After collecting our data through observation, a Chi test was conducted resulting in a Chi value of 5.1 and a p value of .2. Since the p value was greater than 0.05, there was no significant change in the data. This proved that the Drosophila flies still followed the Mendelian genetics of a 9:3:3:1 ratio. Introduction: The basis of genetics were established by Gregor Mendel, an Augustinian monk in the mid to late 1800 s. • 7. Analysis And Interpretation Of Blood Evidence Left Behind... Bloodstain pattern analysis is the examination and interpretation of blood evidence left behind at a crime scene. It is based on the principles of biology (behavior of blood), physics (cohesion and capillary action and velocity) and mathematics (geometry, distance, and angle) according to National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) guide. The analyst is tasked with classifying the type of bloodstain and assisting in reconstructing the events leading up to the act that caused the bloodshed. This is accomplished by examining the size, shape, distribution and location of the bloodstains. There are several different types of patterns, and spatter from the bloodstains can be found on multiple surfaces in many different forms. My focus is on blood spatter which is a common bloodstain that occurs when a blood source is met with a certain level of force or impact. Origin and trajectory are crucial, complex components in painting a picture of what happened. In Richard Safferstein s text (2011), Criminalistics: An Introduction to Forensic Science, he explains that interpreting bloodstains can yield the following information: The direction from which blood originated The angle at which a blood droplet struck a surface The location or position of a victim at the time a bloody wound was inflicted The movement of a bleeding individual at the crime scene The minimum number of blows hat struck a bleeding victim The approximate location of an individual ... • 9. Essay On Social Conventions In The Age Of Innocence, By... In The Age of Innocence Edith Wharton greatly emphasizes the social conventions and unwritten rules of New York society in the late 19th century. The characters believe that what is and what is not the thing to do has the utmost importance. Wharton introduces this in the second chapter with, Few things seemed to Newland Archer more awful than an offense against Taste, that far off divinity of whom Form was the mere visible representative and vicegerent. (Wharton, 14). While these social conventions may seem arbitrary and meaningless as time passes, the people within a society are bound to them because the consequences of not following them are too great. If a person chooses to reject these social principles, they are ostracized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of this is the wedding scene at the beginning of Book Two. Newland has learned that May pushed the wedding up and is now preparing to marry May. Although he knows May isn t the right woman for him he goes on with the wedding anyway. In this scene, words with primitive connotations such as rite and ritual are used to signify the unbreakable nature of the social conventions. Wharton writes that Archer had gone through this formality as resignedly as through all the others which made of a nineteenth century New York wedding a rite that seemed to belong to the dawn of history. (153). Edith Wharton purposefully uses diction in this scene to draw attention to the nature of societal customs in New York. By emphasizing the prehistoric nature of the ritual and by calling a wedding a rite that seemed to belong to the dawn of history Wharton calls to attention the duty that members of society have. People in this society must follow the rite and ritual because it has been this way seemingly since the beginning of time. Breaking this custom would be like going against society and would cause ... • 10. Herbal and Alternative Remedies HERBAL AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICATIONS Herbal remedies come from plants. If possible, choose a remedy which has been standardized, i.e. the contents are approximately the same in each bottle or tablet you buy. Plant remedies are not always safer than ordinary medicines. All of them can have side effects and interact with other medicines. Supplements include vitamins, minerals and animal and plant products, such as cod liver oil. They can also have side effects and interact with other medicines. Some people take supplements, like vitamin C in high doses, but this can damage the liver or kidneys. Many supplements have a recommended daily intake (RDI), or allowance (RDA). Do not go beyond this dose without talking to an experienced health professional. CAMs and mental health problems: Many CAMs have been used for mental health problems, but there is little good evidence to support their use. Some of these treatments may work, but most have not been thoroughly tested. The studies have often been too small to give a clear answer. We know most about the treatments for depression, anxiety and insomnia. Despite the lack of evidence, people all over the world take CAMs, and many report that they find them helpful. Ultimately, whether taking CAMs is a good idea depends on individual circumstances. We recommend that you talk to your GP or mental health team first. If you are considering taking CAMs, you should seek specialist advice if: you are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Dry Wood Termites Essay ability of dry wood termites to live in dry wood without outside moisture or contact with the ground, however, makes them a definite menace in the regions where they occur. Their destruction is not rapid, but they can thoroughly riddle timbers with their tunnelling if allowed to work undisturbed for many years. Non subterranean termites are often moved from structure to structure in infested items such as furniture (TC, 1996). 2.5.3 Activities of termites Termites are widely dispersed throughout the tropics as well as some temperate regions and they play vital ecological roles such as nutrient cycling and ecosystem engineering (Kemabonta et al., 2014). Termites construct shelter tubes, also known as earthen tubes or mud tubes that start from the ground. These shelter tubes can be found on walls and other structures. Constructed by termites during the night, a time of higher humidity, these tubes provide protection to termites from potential predators, especially ants (Hadlington, 1996). Shelter tubes also provide high humidity and darkness and allow workers to collect food sources that cannot be accessed in any other way. • 13. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo In his novel, Les Miserables, Victor Hugo identifies the principle social evils of French society through the actions and qualities of his characters. By depicting each of his characters struggles through destitute and oppressed measures, Hugo is able to identify the social errors of 19th century France. The fact that characters such as Valjean, Javert, Fantine, and Cosette, attempt to rise above poverty and redeem themselves indicate that such inequalities did, and still do, exist to this day. Through the use of feminist ideals and the criminal injustice system, Hugo attacks the principle social evils that each of his characters face in Les Miserables. In the early 19th century, most women were subject to gender discrimination and viewed as weaker components in France. One of the first characters attacked by such injustice is the former factory worker and prostitute, Fantine. Having been discovered as a mother of an illegitimate child, Fantine is thrown out of the work place and turns towards prostitution instead. Deprived of hope and redemption, Fantine endures through much suffering and harassment from her male superiors in order to provide for her child. Mourning and Melancholia in Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls Ernest Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940) begins with a quotation from John Donne s Meditation XVII. With this epigraph, Hemingway identifies the source of his title and defines the connections achieved between human beings through mourning.: Donne s argument begins, No man is an island, and it concludes with an assertion of our bond to the dead: never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. Proper mourning acknowledges the losses to our self in the death of another. In an introduction to the Eulogy written after World War II, Hemingway scolded America for its failure to support these premature antifascists (Nelson 26). At another point, he explains this failure: The majority of the career diplomats of England, France, and the United States , are fascist, and it is they who supply the erroneous information on which their foreign offices and state departments act (Hem on War, 293). The ideologies of the diplomats led to the great bloodbath of the Second World War. Hemingway helps us to mourn the deaths of Jordan and the other volunteers because he affirms that they are, in fact, unacknowledged instances of our own losses. Yet, many of the volunteers in the International Corps during the Spanish Civil War felt betrayed by Hemingway s depictions of literary and historical characters and events. Some of the veterans criticized the lack of political ideology in the central character, the literary self indulgence of the love relationship between Jordan and Maria, and the negative depictions of several of the leaders of the Republican forces. Pilar s narrative describing the massacre of civilian villagers provoked the sharpest criticism. According to Milton Wolff, many veterans felt that Hemingway had 2 Page 3 ignored fascist atrocities and betrayed loyalist soldiers who had been killed or wounded in Spain. Wolff also ... • 16. Women s Property Rights Throughout history, whether women had property rights was a significant indicator of women s status. Women who had property rights were able to distinguish their own property from those of her husband s and were able to create a separate property inheritance line. This gave space for women to have their own heir and thus giving them more power. Women s status had declined throughout medieval Japan because property rights were taken away from them. Women were no longer independent and were restricted in many ways. However, despite the fact that women were not able to inherit property, some women were still able to have power managing the properties. The property rights of women of warrior status changed drastically. The establishment of the house system during the later Kamakura period took away power from women. In the early Kamakura period women as daughters were able to inherit freely just as sons. Tonomura provides an example in her article that, In the early Kamakura period, daughter had as good a chance of being included in the division of family property as did sons, to the extent that a father would grant land with the stewardship title to Nagaharume [daughter] s child in her womb, whose sex is unknown (Tonomura 1990). There is also the case that you don t have to be in college for that long to start working and gain a high paying wage. And. beyond money, education seems to make people happier and healthier (D). Not only does seeking a higher education gets you a higher paying wage it also makes you a happier person. This could work by the interaction with fellow students on the campus and more knowledge than the average human. On the graph it shows that from 2001 to 2010 the wage difference is slowly declining(Source C). The graph is showing that when looking at how much a college graduates makes after college it isn t as much as it use to be. There isn t going to be a substantial wage growth for the new college graduates. A higher education may not be what everyone thinks it is, being a source to making more money when you get out of high school. When the wages are going down for the college graduates, then it becomes apparent how expensive college really is. College cost is exceedingly high as of right now and may become higher as time goes by. Both cost and demand for college education have grown significantly in the years since Mr. Thiel was a student. He sees that rise as irrational (E). College is starting to become more expensive and it doesn t make sense that it is according to Mr. Thiel. There is no way to see if it will get higher, but if it does then is college really worth the price. The price of college is going up and the wage for new college graduates is starting to decrease. Never just put your hand into a rabbit s cage that looks like it is feeling threatened or looks very scared and tense. A rabbit could be nice one day then be ready to attack the next day. They may fool you by how cute they look but they have a temperament just like any other animal. Each rabbit has their own personality so you should never judge all rabbits by how one rabbit acts. You may think that you can t run by genetics and penalize a rabbit for being mean cause it has the chance to pass that gene on, but someone else might cause they don t want to keep mean rabbits or sell someone a mean rabbit. Well, people breed mean rabbits together you get mean offspring. When people breed a mean doe to a nice buck you can either get nice bunnies, mean bunnies, or a mixture of the two. With that being said, the gene is more than likely recessive due to the gene popping up in later generations after not popping up in previous generations. Along with the personality trait being genetic, it can also be caused by hormones. Lots of things can contribute to the spitefulness that some rabbits may present. With the research that has been conducted in this experiment, that only did breeding experiments which allowed them to test and see if it is genetic instead of being caused by hormones. • 22. The Thing In The Apartment By John William Ross Since the first sound film in 1927, filmmakers employed tools to create sound effects and complete the illusion (Cavalcanti, 1939). The use of sound became essential to the quality of films, particularly in fiction where the audience seeks entertainment and thrill. Indeed, Rockett (1982) notes that music, background noises and sounds effects are the elements creating a particular mood or atmosphere. This theory is notably applicable to the horror genre, as its specificity is to incite fear and play on the viewer s nerves. According to Rockett, horror is indeed primarily a sound based medium (1982). Horror films sounds play with emotions, for instance with abrupt shifts up and down in pitch. As Gron states, these sound contrasts function as priming mechanisms , playing with spectators expectations of the scare (2013). These theories lead to the importance of recognising what makes an efficient sound track to frighten the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 23. Native American And The American Of Native Americans The Native American population has suffered many tragedies at the hands of the United States government, from their first interactions through the mid twentieth century. Government policies concerning American Indians worked in conjunction with the prejudices harbored by the majority of the white population in the United States to suppress Native American liberties and strip them of their cultural identity. These policies gave little to no regard for Native American customs, personal expression, or the future of Native American traditions, and had profound effects on the Native American individuals and families who encountered them. The boarding school policies enacted by the United States government regarding Native Americans that were formulated to encourage the destruction of native customs and force an entire race to assimilate into white American culture ultimately led to the alienation of Native Americans from their native heritage and a loss of their personal sense of self. Several government policies were created to control the attire and language of Native Americans. Among these were targeted regulations regarding how Native American students in boarding schools were to dress, act, and speak, oftentimes against their will or traditions. It was common for students to be prohibited from speaking their native language, encouraged instead to read, write, and speak in English only. One of the General Rules in Rules for Indian Schools explicitly states that all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Space Of Space Exploration Essay Introduction One of the greatest unknowns within our human existence is life outside of our known universe; decades of research, teamwork and funding have manifested phenomenal scientific triumphs in the fields of space exploration and aeronautics. The forefront of this Space Race arguably began with the Sputnik, a Russian artificial satellite launched in the late 1950 s. Following the launch of Sputnik 1, the genesis of American competitive space exploration built roots in the formation of NASA under the Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration was founded in 1958 under a premise of competitive space exploration and continued discovery of truths residing outside of our existence on planet Earth. NASA externally competes with other teams of space explorers, which primarily includes Russia s Federal Space Agency, commonly called Roscosmos. However, moving away from Cold War competitiveness and the race to build the biggest and best rockets, NASA has fostered over fifty years worth of the most fortified and cohesive teamwork in the fields of science and aerospace engineering. The unwavering cohesion of NASA engineers, scientists and explorers has exclusively demanded the best and brightest to work on their teams. External pressures both on and off of the deployed NASA spacecraft render their employees to work with the strongest teamwork achievable between their highly diverse team members. Outside of school, I did sudokus, measured my entire house, made graphs, and even created my own problems to explore mathematics. I would do all of my work, including tests, without a calculator just to challenge myself and do more math. As the concepts increased in difficulty, the subject became even more fun for me. The dedication and creativity required in advanced mathematics have only empowered my enthusiasm for mathematics. The problem solving within mathematics and the love I had for the subject inspired me to become a teacher. Because of my enthusiasm for mathematics, I became the tutor for the Math Lab at Gardner Webb. With this job, I am available to students struggling in one hundred level mathematics courses every week. This has allowed me to share my excitement for math. I focus on the problem solving, almost puzzle like aspect of mathematics and show students how fun solving problems could be. I share my passion for the subject with students who had the very opposite view of mathematics as me and, by the end of each semester, students began to have fun with the problems with me! My passion gives them motivation to persevere through their homework. My time in the Math Lab has helped me discover my value of passion in the classroom.
