Catalase Lab
Introduction This research experiment will fundamentally focus on the activity of catalase, an
enzyme that can be found in nearly every living organism. The essential function of catalase is to
decompose hydrogen peroxide to produce water and oxygen. This enzyme also plays a major role
within the protection of the cell from the oxidative damage that the reactive oxygenspecies are
capable of causing. In addition, catalase is known to have the ability of chemically converting
substrates such as hydrogen peroxideat the rate of approximately 5 million molecules to water and
oxygen per second. In terms of its biochemical structure, this enzymehas folded protein subunits
organized in a multi subunit complex of four polypeptide chains, with... Show more content on

As the chemical reaction progresses, the presence and production of oxygen will determine the
rate of the enzyme s activity through the process. The rate of reaction of the enzyme set with
every different temperature will be acquired by measuring the amount of oxygen produced and
present within the test tubes in terms of the height its foam in millimeters within each trial. If
the amount of foam or the oxygen gas formed appears to be large, it will indicate that the rate of
the enzyme s activity is relatively rapid. Likewise, if the the amount of oxygen appears to be
relatively fall under a lower range of foam height, it will indicate that the rate of the enzyme s
activity is slower. Nevertheless, because this enzyme is a form of protein, it is appropriate to
indicate that it is very fragile. This is because as the temperature of the enzyme increases, the amino
acids within the catalase cause a vibration to separate intramolecular bonds. This leads to the an
irreversible alteration of the protein s structure to the point where hydrogen peroxide, the substrate
no longer has the ability to be attached to the active site, which disrupts the entire function of the

Emotional Voices Of Shakespeare s The Merchant Of...
William Shakespeare expresses Shylock and Hamlet s emotional voices explicitly throughout both
plays: The Merchant of Venice and Hamlet. The emotional voices in both texts were due to the
tragic incidences each protagonist Shylock and Hamlet endured. In The Merchant of Venice the
emotions seen within the text are hatred and penitence, whereas in Hamletthe audience can infer
that the emotions portrayed are depression, pain and terror; thus instigating that there is a
contrasting concept between The Merchant of Veniceand Hamlet. This can be seen through Hamlet
s situation where his emotions were triggered by his father s passing. As stated in Act 4 Scene 4, he
utters: My thoughts be bloody or be nothing worth . The word bloody suggests that he has
malicious intentions as he indicated obliviously that he wanted to avenge his father. Hamlet cannot
afford to think of anything other than his unsettled task: execute his father s assumed murderer.
This brings out his emotional voice vengeance as the death of his father had an enormous impact on
him, leading him to become depressed and paranoid throughout the play. Dissimilarly, Shylock s
emotionhad been caused by the mistreatment he suffered as a result of him being a Jew in a
Christian community. Anti Semitism was omnipresent in Venice, signifying that Shylock was
discriminated against pervasively. This led him to channel all his anger towards the Christians
because of the inevitable exploitation he

Billy CollinsLitany And Mrs Darwin
How do Billy Collins Litany and Carol Ann Duffy s Mrs Darwin effectively challenge accepted
conventions and encourage new ideas and opinions?
Billy Collins and Carol Ann Duffy, in their poems Litany and Mrs Darwin respectively, challenge
accepted conventions of love through satire. Collins parodies the convention of Western love poetry
to compare the beloved to objects in nature. The title of the poem, Litany, admits to a long,
tedious list and the first two lines of the poem, an allusion to Jacques Crickillon s poem,
highlights Litany as a critique of traditional love poetry while Mrs Darwin parodies the structure
of a scientific journal. This structure allows Duffy to humour the audience with the thought that
it was this offhand mockery that led to the infamous The Origin of Species, published seven
years after 7 April 1852, while the first three rhyming lines that builds up to the punchline,
separated by a dash, reminds the reader of the familiar form of a joke. Comparatively, Collin
employs end stops to allow the reader to pause between each metaphor, to emphasise his message
and to create rhythm in his poem. Collins criticises the idealism of love, because while she is the
bread and the knife he also comments on her deficiencies, telling there is just no way she has
some of these qualities. Similarly, Duffy satirises Charles Darwin s scientific observations of
animals, as she is similarly observing her husband as she plants the idea of evolution in his head,

Fate In How Mordred
In the chapter of Malory s How Mordred was Born and King Arthur Learned of His Parentage ,
Arthur decides to go an an adventure and, along the way gets into multiple altercations. During his
travels, Arthur meets Merlin who then decides to accompany him. Some important themes that are
seen in this prose romance are death, power, courage and most importantly fate. The author
suggests that fate is completely predetermined, there is no ways to change the outcome of one s
life. The idea that life is based solely on fate will be seen through battles, tools given to ensure
survival, Merlin s powerful influence, as well as incest. To start with, Arthur is someone who gets
into multiple dangerous situations and Merlin must be there to repeatedly... Show more content on

After he sleeps with her, he goes on a quest where he encounters the strangest beast he [has] ever
seen or heard of (25). This beast that he sees is the Questing Beast which symbolizes incest.
Continually, since Arthur is seeing this beast represents that the sexual relationship he has with
Morgues is wrong. Moreover, Merlin also knows of the deed that Arthur has done and decides to
tell him you have lain by your sister and on her you have conceived a child that shall destroy you
and all the knights of your realm (26). This causes Arthur to be aware that his fate is to die at the
ends of Mordred. This shows that no matter the choices Arthur will make, his fate will not
change. Arthur knows Modred will kill him, this is the reason Arthur decides to follow Merlin s
advice and to have all children born on May day put in a ship and sent out to sea (33). To send
out all of these children is to make sure that the son he conceived will not be his demise.
Mordred survives May day which proves that Arthur s fate is predetermined no matter the course
he chooses. To conclude, Malory, in the chapter How Mordred was Born and Arthur Learned of
His Parentage , shows that Arthur s fate is already made for him; that none of the choices he makes
will change how his life is supposed to end. Throughout this prose romance, Merlin is there to make
sure that Arthur will survive. How Merlin

Edmund Perry
On June 12th, 1985 Officer Lee Van Houten was attacked by two young, black men who tried to
mug him. The youngest of the boys, Edmund Perry, my client was shot by the officer. The jury has
just convicted Edmund on charges of assault, battery and resisting arrest, crimes of which are
punishable with sentences of up to 30 years.
However I do not believe Edmund attentively committed the crimes because of his remarkable
character and academic achievements. Instead, he did it as a result of the expectations of him at
Exeter, his home in Harlem, and the local junior high school
Wadleigh, all of which are conflicting against each other.
Exeter is a prestigious school known round the world. When thinking about ... Show more content

Not only more work (at Exeter five hours of homework was the norm), not only harder play (all
were required to play a sport every season), but more responsibility to themselves, to their school,
to their family and country. (180) The students at Exeter are well aware of what they have to
accomplish. The 40 colored students of Edmunds class might have felt pressure to succeed more
than their white peers. On a daily basis Edmund had to prove that he could do what the white
students were capable of. This caused him to feel inadequate because he had to try harder and put
in more effort than they did. Whatever Edmund did he would never be considered as equal when
compared to his white peers.
Secondly, Edmund also had great expectations from his mother, Veronica Perry who had many
struggles in her life. However, regardless of her faults she strived for the best education she could
attain. This yearning was something she instilled in her children. They are bringing you up here
because they want to learn about black people.
They want to learn about black people they want to learn about their world. You have to teach

Day Of Conformity
Analyzing a Day of nonconformity
Conformity is thought to be an important force in human evolution because it has the potential to
stabilize cultural similarities between cultural diversity groups (ClaidiГЁre, Bowler, Brookes,
Brown, Whiten, 2014). However, the effects of conformity can make us change the way we
behave and think due to the individuals are around us. According to Myers and Twenge (2015),
there are two varieties of conformity that happen when we are trying to adapt or change our
behavior in order to feel socially accepted by society. The first type of conformity is acceptance,
which is when we sincerely believe what others are telling us. The second type of conformity is
compliance, which is when we conform to the expectations ... Show more content on

Yet, the cost for not conforming can make a personfeel excluded and isolated from certain group
activities. In my opinion, I think that the benefits of living authentically outweigh its cost because
if people were always conforming to society, then we would not be able to think outside the box,
or even realize that we have a strong character to accomplish what we set out to do.
Usually, I conform to my peers by dressing similarly in a pair of shorts, a shirt, and sneakers. But
on the day of nonconformity, I decided to wear a sweater with long pants, and sandals. As for
my behavior, I typically conform to doing favors for my friends more than for other coworkers.
On the day of nonconformity, my coworkers and friends did notice the change in appearance but
not so much in my behavior, as I was not able to deny them a favor when they asked me for help.
Therefore, they did not act differently towards

Social Media In Modern Society
Social media has become a pillar in our modern day society and its strengths outweigh its
weaknesses if users are wise enough to navigate it for themselves. The source is wrong because
social media is keeping people connected to one another and to the world around them. When we
engage in social media and we are instantly connected with the greater world.
In 2017 it was reported that 2.46 billion people were actively using social media. It estimated that
by 2021 this number will grow to 3.02 billion users. Chances are that so far today, you have already
checked at least one form of social media; this goes to show how widespread social media has
become in our society.Social media has become an ever present force in our modern society and
there is no way to escape it. Erik Qualman said We don t have a choice on whether we do social
media, the question is how well we do it , this quote shows how widespread social media has
become and that eventually, everyone will be an active user. There is a new pillarthat is supporting
our society and it is social media; something that is completely controlled by the people and is
literally accessible at our fingertips. The source is incorrect because we are now able to connect
with others on a level that we haven t been able to before. There has never been a time where we
have been presented with so much information and we have been able to share so much about
ourselves. Our daily lives are constantly impacted by our use of social media

Political Views on Angels in America
Political Views on Angels in America
The representation of individualism and stagnation during the presidency of Ronald Reagan,
juxtaposed to Kushner s progress and collectivism.
Angel: Greetings Prophet!
The Great Work Begins:
The Messenger has arrived.
Prior: Go Away. (Kushner, 149)
Throughout Part Two of Tony Kushner s play Angels in America, Prior the Prophet envisions
progress in the world after the Angel confronts him at the end of Part One. The red line connecting
Prior and the Angel throughout the play is this progress juxtaposed to stagnation, wherein the Angel
wants Prior to prophesize a stop of movement, a stop to understanding the world and a stop to the
want of humanity to advance (178). Prior is conflicted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same relation can be found in Reagan s inaugural address from 1981, where he speaks of
how unique we really are, and we are a united people pledged to maintaining a political system
which guarantees individual liberty to a greater degree than any other (Reagan). He speaks of a
united people, but the emphasis remains on the individual liberty and self rule he later mentions in
the same address. This representation of Republic individualism is not only visible in Joe and Roy
as discussed by Corby (19 20), but can also be found in reference to the Angel. On multiple
occasions the Angel, when appearing to Prior, lays emphasis on herself by his repetition of I.
Another way of accentuating the individual is in his praise of the Prophet, Prior. Both can be seen
in the following passage when the Angel presents herself to Prior for the first time:
I I I I
Am the Bird Of America, the Bald Eagle,
Continental Principality,
LUMEN PHOSPHOR FLUOR CANDLE!
I unfold my leaves, Bright steel,
In salutation open sharp before you:
PRIOR WALTER
Long descended, well prepared (Kushner, 170)
I I I I lays focus on this individual entity, representing herself as the Bird of America, clearly
connecting it in a similar way Reagan did in his address. The Long descended, well prepared Prior
is idolized as the Prophet, the one who needs to relay his message to the people. The phrase

Sunday On La Grande Jatte Analysis
Imagine a painting comprised of thousands of tiny dots that have been strategically placed in a
pattern to form an image. The pioneer of pointillism and Neo impressionism Georges Pierre Seurat
sparked a new art movement and painting technique which was associated with creating the
appearance of solid figures using points of pure color grouped together. His creation of this art
style was inspired by his desire to abandon Impressionism. Seurat s most famous paintings of the
19th century is the art piece made by Frenchman Georges Seuratcalled A Sunday Afternoon on La
Grande Jatte which uses the pointillismapproach. It was painted between 1885 1886. The technique
he chose took much longer to produce, which is why it took him more than two years... Show more

From the figures in the painting, you can see sunbathers, soldiers, men in top hats, women with
parasols, dogs, and a monkey. According to an article, it states that a monkey in French (and
female) is known as singesse, denoting a prostitute. The smartly dressed woman is fishing but for
what ( Seurat s Grande Jatte , n.d.). I found this interesting because when I first saw this painting, I
first assumed it was just a regular painting of wealthy citizens relaxing and did not suspect
anything of the monkey strangely being present. The women on the right is holding a leash to the
monkey which many critics suspect that Seurat is trying to say through symbolism that this
woman is a prostitute who is out for a stroll with her client and that she is fishing for more. On the
left of the photo, you see a woman dressed in orange fishing by the water, which seems innocent.
According to an online dictionary, the French word for fish is pГЄcher , which some believe is a
plan on word as the French word for sin is pГ©cher (Dave, The Psychology of Geometry ).
References to prostitution used the words pГЄche (fishing) and pГ©chГ© (sin) a lot in French
cartoons. The artist may be hinting that they are both prostitutes and demonstrates the art piece s
satirical nature. Not only are they suspect prostitutes, but they may have been proletarian women
that have become superficially bourgeois through prostitution. Seurat adds another perspective to
the comparison of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, hinting the superficiality and immorality
behind the high class

Cultural Reflection Paper
When I think of culture, I think of what activities people normally do, things they wear, and
even the food they eat. I grew up as a military brat, meaning I grew up in a military family. I
traveled a lot and I have got to see all types of cultures, and I like them all for different reasons. I
was born in Germany, and I love their culturebecause they are happy with who they are, they have
really cool traditions, and I love their food. In Germany, if a person saw a 12 year old drinking
alcohol, it is perfectly normal, whereas in our culture, it is wrong if a person saw that
happening. Why is that? Well for starters, their country is more developed because they
understand how to keep their citizens safe. While I was there, when children had to go to
school, someone could see a 5 year old walking to school by themselves. People do not think if their
child is going to get kidnapped or killed while they are by themselves. In the U.S., we obviously
have a lot of problems with those kinds of things. Here, if a 5 year old is by themselves on the
streets, it is called neglect. When I think of culture, I think of what activities people normally do,

Decaying Gratification
Aristotle once formed a compelling viewpoint, stating in his discussion on self mastery that
many individuals choose to have a weakness of will. In other words, they know what is best for
them, but still choose to do something else. In an experiment done by Walter Michel, many of
the individuals in the experiment have proven to make a rational decision to not do something
that their basic instincts were pushing them to do. Aristotle s engrossing point of view has
shown that willpower can be achieved, and make the impossible things possible. Based on my
own experience, I had not thought about delaying gratification or self control. Typically, I try to
make decisions to act in ways that will benefit me, although sometimes I slip into a moment of
weakness. When the Oreo was placed on my desk, my basic instinct was that I was hungry. Even
though I knew that I could receive another Oreo, if I waited until the end of class to eat it, I had
slipped into a instant of frailty and eventually, just succumbed to it. I have found that this sense of
self control has been an issue with me throughout school,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

any regrets, I have found that practical wisdom is very important. I have learned to live with my

Intel, A Small Computer Electronics Firm
Introduction
Intel was set up on 18th July 1968 by Gordon Moore, Robert Noyce and Andrew Grove as a
small computer electronics firm. Over 40 years on the company is still going and is making vast
amounts of money every year with their net income for 2015 being $11.4bn (Revenue $55.9bn) .
Intel was first formed in Mountain View California 1968 by Gorden E. Moore a chemist, Robert
Noyce a physicist and Arthur Rock who was an investor and venture capitalist. Moor and Noyce
used to work at Fairchild Semiconductor but eventually left that company to form Intel. Intel had a

to improve its market share which in this case will be within the computing market . This report
will be based on the results of the SWOT analysis will be used to identify improvements that Intel
could make in order to increase their market share within the computing market. The advantage of
using a SWOT analysis is that it identifies areas that the business can improve on as well as areas
that they need to watch. See Appendix 1 for the SWOT analysis of Intel.
Methods of Research
Research Method 1:
The first source of information used was Intel s own website which is secondary information. This
source was beneficial because it came from the company s website and so therefore the information
was up to date and should be accurate about the statistics of the company. The website also shows
the latest products that Intel is producing as well as the many research products that they fund to
advance computer technology. The downside however of this source of information is that the
information on the website could be biased because they will want to project their organisation in
the best light possible so are therefore unlikely to post anything negative about the company. The
Intel website did however show the different

A Picture Can Tell Us
A picture can tell us a thousand words and ways to show us our history.
Photographers have been moving many of american s deeply and helped support the new deal
legislation from sharecroppers, farmers and migrant workers. Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Carl
Mydans, Marion Post Wolcott, Ben Shahn, Russell Lee, Arthur Rothstein, and John Vachon, were
all photographers, during The Great Depression, who wanted to show the government what the
world had become. Every single person that is named in this background has also suffered of the

no matter if the only thing they had is a blanket above their head.
Life in the 1930 s were rough, many people lived in shacks made out of materials they could find.
Having food was a struggle as well. Many people lived off of potatoes and cabbage from what
they could grow it , since money was a rare though to have back in 1930 s. Like the mexican

made out of wood with no family in his life and the cotton pickers in Pulkaski County Arkansas in

The Prisoner s Dilemma
This semester so far in Core 5, we have learned about the Prisoner s Dilemma. It is a situation in
which people each have options as to how to react to something. However, what is unique about
this decision, is that each person s decision is directly affected by the other person s decision,
and vice versa. The outcome of their reaction is dependent on what the other person decided to
say. The popular example is of two prisoners who each must separately decide on whether or not
to confess to a crime. Each prisoner has the choice as to confess to the crime or to deny their own
involvement. This is just an example, though, as the Prisoner s Dilemma can be applied to many
different scenarios. As it relates to climate change, each party has the... Show more content on

The Impact Of The Gnostic Movement On The Way Of Looking...
Historically, man has developed a number of ways of looking at the world, using either theoretical
models or empirical demonstrations to unearth the truth behind the unknown. Whilst positivist
scientific theory tries to explain the world around us, theology, unlike the scientific method, relies
on a greater degree of theoretical and explanatory approaches, rather than focusing on purely
practical evidence. For this reason, relying on purely theoretical foundations attracted a range of
diverging opinions and conclusions within the early Christian Church, as various participants
tended to adhere to their own views based on their grounded beliefs. The Gnostic movement can be
linked to the early Christian movement; however, many of the elements are not associated with the
current practises of Christianity. However, the underlying belief in a single and absolute higher
power remains. In this essay, I will argue that Gnosticism was originally a key factor in the
Christian movement, which in turn contributed to the spread of Christianity throughout the world,
yet it does not necessarily define the modern view of Christianity, particularly so with regard to the
modern missionary movement as compared with the early missions of Christ s followers.
Gnosticism was originally the practise of surrendering oneself to a supreme deity and involved
shunning the material world. These ideas had their roots in gnosis, a belief that there is a divine
power through which humans could be redeemed

Banning Tasers In Canada
Tasers are a controversal topic as to whether they should be banned or not. there are many
reasons on to why the Government of Canada must not ban the use of tasers for all police officers
in Canada. Tasers actually save lives, they are much less lethal compared to other weapons, and
they provide a higher measure of safety for all policeofficers in Canada.
The Government of Canada must not ban the use of tasers for all police officers in Canada
because tasers saves lives. Tasers saves more lives than people think. There has only been 26
deaths(because of tasers) from 2003 to the present in Canada. That number compared to the
thousands of times that tasers have been used, means a very low death ratio. As well as the
possibility of someone dying with a healthy heart from being tasered is also very low. Tasers were

Film Industry In Louisiana
The film industry in Louisiana has seen tremendous growth in the last decade due to a generous
film tax credit program. The big motion picture companies seem to be bringing more pictures to be
filmed in Hollywood South claiming the films create jobs and spur economic growth. Louisiana
residents are wowed by the chance to potentially see movies filmed in their neighborhoods, the
chance to meet stars and perhaps be an extra in a scene. Though many in the state are claiming that
the filmtax credit program is too costly to maintain.
Proponents of the program cite the increased number of movies filmed in Louisiana as a key
indicator of the program s success. Several other states have similar programs, though no film tax
credit program is as beneficial to film companies as Louisiana s program. The film industry has
increased so significantly in Louisiana that in 2013 more major motion pictures were filmed in
Louisiana than in any other state. Films made in Louisiana do create jobs.
Economists argue that the long term tax film credits are generating debt and not revenue. They
claim the jobs that are created in are temporary, low wage positions and the state is better off
investing their money in a less risky industry. Louisiana economists state that the success of the

Skin Pigmentation Disorders
Skin pigmentation disorders are often caused by sunlight, it causes an increase in the production of
cells known as melanocytes that increase melanin in the skin, thus turning the skin darker. These
dark skin patches are known as brown spots, age spots, dark spots, sun spots and liver spots.
brown spots
Brown spots generally appear on exposed skin areas like the face, back, neck, chest, shoulders and
hands. Some of the main causes of brown spots are sun exposure, aging, and genetics. Factors like
stress, pregnancy, vitamin deficiencies, and weak liver functioning may also contribute to this
problem.
The spots are usually harmless, but many consider them unattractive. To lighten brown spots, you
can try a few easy and natural home treatments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can also add some honey. Apply this solution on your brown spots and wash it off after a few
minutes. Do this once daily for a few days or until you get positive results.
5. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera has healing properties and aids skin regeneration. So, it is excellent for getting rid of
brown spots, especially when caused by sun exposure.
Gently rub fresh aloe vera gel on the spots. Leave it on for about 30 minutes before washing the
area with cold water. Repeat twice daily and within a month you should notice improvement. If
fresh aloe vera gel is not available, you can opt for aloe vera juice that you can readily buy from the
market.
6. Sandalwood
Sandalwood is an anti aging agent and an antiseptic that can helps reduce hyperpigmentation and
get rid of brown spots.
You can make homemade pack with two tablespoons of sandalwood powder, two teaspoons of rose
water, and one teaspoon each of glycerin and lemon juice. Apply this pack on the spots and allow it
to dry naturally. Use cold water to wash it off. Repeat a few times a week until your brown spots
disappear. Also, massage the affected area with a few drops of sandalwood oil mixed in one
tablespoon of olive oil or almond oil, daily before going to bed and leave it on

Hampton Inn And Homewood Suites Hotel
Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites guests will experience similar flows when staying at this multi
branded hotel. They will check in to their respective brand, park their vehicle on premise if
necessary, find their way onto the guestroom floors, and then utilize the amenities offered to them
such as the fitness center, pool, and the pantries located in each lobby. But throughout the hotel
there are design pros and cons that will have an impact on the overall experience of both Hampton
Inn and Homewood Suites guests.
Pros
Guests entering Homewood Suites only have one main vestibule entrance they can use to enter the
lobby. This entrance from the parking courtyard immediately puts guests in the front desk area. This
area is large enough to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites guests have the option to utilize the shared public space
available on the second floor this includes the fitness center, the pool, two meeting rooms and a
board room. For all aspects of their experience in this hotel, the Hampton Inn and the Homewood
Suites guest only expects to interact with their respective brand. This also applies to the shared
public space between both brands, so the second floor cannot feel separated to the guest. But the
amenities on this floor are arranged well enough so Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites guests
have access to every amenity on this floor. The corridor in front of the meeting rooms connects
guests to the entire floor and allows them to simultaneously share public space.
Cons
A guest entering the Hampton Inn from the New York Avenue entrance will reach the front desk
area and also come upon the second vestibule entrance from the parking courtyard. Since there is
a small area between the vestibule and front desk, this will become a bottleneck for the lobby;
guests will be clustered here waiting to check in. This area is also in front of the only path leading
to the elevator lobby, so the guests waiting for check in will obstruct other guests who are coming
back from the pantry area or from the outside of the hotel and are trying to reach the guestroom

The Effect Of Peroxidase Production On Stressed Plants Essay
This experiment used beets to determine peroxidase production in stressed plants. The purpose of
this experiment was to test if the stressed plant would produce more peroxidase in a higher
concentration than the control plant. The stressor for this experiment was watering with salt water.
This stressor was chosen because it is a natural stressor to plants; especially along the coasts and
where roads are salted in winter such as the Midwest. The control plantwas watered with plain tap
water while the experimental plant was watered with tap water plus salt. The salt water
concentration was 1.2341 molar. After the two week stress period the stressed plant was much
smaller, wilted, and shriveled compared to the control plant. It also had less water content overall,
which made the extraction process somewhat more challenging. To test the peroxidase production
in the plants several methods were used, including: tissue printing, DOT blot assay, electrophoretic
analysis, and a spectrophotometric assay. It was concluded that the stressed plant did produce more
peroxidase than the control plant and in a higher concentration.
Peroxidase Production in Beets Stressed with Salt Water
There are many types of peroxidases found in plants, animals, and microorganisms. The plant
peroxidase that was studied in this lab is the class III plant peroxidase (POX) (Hiraga, Sasaki, Ito,
Ohashi, Matsui, 2001). Other studies have made it known that POXs participate in lignification,

The draft Kenya Health Sector Strategic Investment Plan[v](KHSSP)July 2012 June 2018 proposes:

Essay on A Fight Aganist Public Schools Strict Dress Codes
The belief that public schools should enforce strict dress codes has been the topic of many
controversial and heated debates throughout history. Although it is uncommon for public schools to
require uniforms, every school has some type of dress code. Elizabeth Forward High School in
Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, is no different than the rest of the nation. When caught violating the dress
code, some teachers will choose to ignore it, whereas others will send the student to the high school
office. If sent to the office, students are penalized with a day of in school suspension instead of
being allowed to call for a change of clothes. At first glance, the prohibition of tank tops, jeans with

Another major problem is the fact that tank tops are even banned in physical education classes.
Students are allowed to wear sweat pants in the winter months to keep themselves warm, but get
points deducted if they decide to wear a tank top on a day that the class spends forty minutes on the
football field in the smoldering summer sun. I think that if the school were to become more lenient
on the tank top rule, students will feel more comfortable in the school during the warmer months,
and they will spend less time complaining about the heat, allowing more ability to focus on
schoolwork. In 2009, Elizabeth Forward banned students from wearing jeans with holes in them.
When the new rule was put into affect, students started a chain text message suggesting that
everyone wear jeans with holes in them the next day. When the teachers and administration learned
about the plan, they threatened the students with in school suspension each day they wore torn up
jeans; this did not stop the students. The students believed that if enough of their peers
participated, they could not be given in school suspension simply because they could not fit
everyone in the in school suspension room. However, when nearly two hundred students showed
up to school in ripped up jeans, the faculty was forced to crack down and send anybody with even
the slightest fraying to the office. Because there were so many rule breakers, the administration
moved everybody out of the in school

Tent Camping Advantages And Disadvantages
What provides better shelter during a camping trip, a hammock or a tent? If you were to ask a

easy to arrive at a decision. You see, both hammock and tent camping have their pros and their
cons, so trying to declare one as absolutely better than the other is a fool s game.
Today, we re going to be playing the fool, so you don t have to.

There are a significant number of reasons to purchase a tent instead of a camping hammock. The
only problem is that there are also a significant number of reasons to purchase a camping instead of

arguments to support their cause.
If you re planning a camping trip with a couple of friends and are able to convince them all to

Donatellos David Essay
Donatellos David
Donatello was one of the most important and influential artists of the fifteenth century. As a master
artist, he sculpted some of the most beautiful pieces of the Italian Renaissance. His innovations
impacted many artists of his time, and set the standard for centuries of sculptors to follow.
Donatello s style is clearly defined and easily recognized in nearly all of his pieces. An exception is
the bronze, David, dated 1425 1430. David strays from the traditional style of Donatello with
reference to style, form, and medium. Historians speculate on the reasons for this breakthrough
with regards to Donatello s philosophies and life experiences, questioning his brief return to the
classical style, as well as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His arms are slightly long for his body, and the muscles not as developed as those of a man. His
waist is small, and the form of his ribs is sculpted enough to know that he is lacking muscle
definition. His stomach seems to pop out a little bit, perhaps suggesting the baby fat that he has
yet to work off. He has one hand resting limply on his hip, while his other rests on a sword
handle. His hair is shoulder length and slightly untamed, while a hat rests slightly tilted atop his
head. His head is tilted slightly downward, and a slight upward bend in his lip looks almost like a
building smile. One leg is straight, supporting his weight, while the other is propped on the head of
the slain Goliath. The bends of his limbs are very natural, and the attention to detail exemplifies
Donatello s understanding of human anatomy. A closer look at the sculpture, however, reveals the
details that set it apart from other works of the master.
Donatello, considered a master of the nude, cared little to produce them in his sculptures. David,
an exception to his previous work, would be completely naked if not for his boots and hat. A hint
of romantic charm lies in the figure s hat. A broad brim garlanded with bay leaves, the hat throws
David s face into a deep shadow and seems to suggest the simple life of a shepherd. The whole
pose of David is inert, tame and non threatening, despite the severed head beneath

Summary Of In The Belly Of The Beast
On Paul Solotaroff s In the Belly of the Beast : A Not So Subtle Argument Against Factory
Farming The dawn of civilization began with mankind mastering a constant source of food.
From humble grains to the mighty cow, raising and harvesting food has been an unchanged
profession for millennia. Ingrained into the fabric of society to the point of the biblical story of
Cain and Abel, where Abel, being a Shepard, offered one of his flock to God as a sacrifice which
was preferred over Cain s grain offering. From biblical times, the progression of technology for
herding and rearing animals had not changed up until the industrial revolution. The industrial
revolution led to new mechanized ways of raising animals but, also losing touch with the natural
way of things. This mechanized way of raising animals is talked about by Paul Solotaroff in his
article, In the Belly of The Beast on how cruel and brutal the conditions are for the animals being
raised today in factoryfarms and how people should act against them. Solotaroff opens the article
with Sarah which isn t her real name and is made very clear that its important her real name isn t
known. Sarah then describes the scene of the farm she works on in a vivid sense, such as
the sensory assault of 10,000 pigs in close quarters: the stench of their shit, piled three feet high in
the slanted trenches below; the blood on sows snouts cut by cages so tight they can t turn around

Toleration is achieved through indifference, by a feeling that any religion might be right, and
also by the fact that nomadic society was accustomed to the practice of many religions. Today,
one sixth of the world and 95 percent of the people of Pakistan are Muslim. Most Muslims in
Pakistan take religion much more seriously than Americans or Europeans do. There are much
fewer agnostics or freethinkers in Pakistan than there are in the West. For most Pakistanis,
religion is not so much a matter of individual belief as it is a matter of revealed truth and a
lifetime duty. A quarter of all Pakistanis pray five times a day. Many more pray at least once a
day. The times a day when a crier, or an amplified taped recording of a crier, gives the azan, or
prayer call, are just before dawn, after noon, an hour before sunset, about an hour after sunset,
and about two and a half hours after sunset. Before entering a mosque (a Muslim temple) men
take their sandals off at the entrance. (Women usually do not go to mosques.) Then they wash

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hydrocolubic Solubility
HYDROTROPIC SOLUBILIZATION [23][24] [25][26] Use of Additives may increase or
decrease the solubility of a solute in a given solvent. The effect of an additive depends very much on

Disadvantages Of Sexual Reproduction
Reproduction is divided into two categories: Sexual and Asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction
is the combination of two sex cells while asexual reproduction is the division of the cell into
smaller genetically identical copies.Sexual reproduction is vital process of life. Although it has
many advantages, it also has some disadvantages. Life Ascending: The Ten Great Invention of
Evolutionby Nick Lane, a British biochemist explains the path of evolution. This work received
the Royal Society Prize for Science Books prize in 2010. The author has a PHD in biochemistry
and was an honorary researcher for the University College London. This suggests that he is reliable
as he has the highest possible qualification in his field, the PHD. The purpose of this critique is
analyze the theories about the importance of sexual reproductionand the advantages and
disadvantages of both forms of reproduction.
Sexual reproduction also has some disadvantages. For example, it causes harmful mutations such
as diseases, illnesses and birth defects. (Lane,N, 2009). STDs or Sexually Transmitted Diseases
are a massive risk to sexually reproducing populations as the mating process is the ideal time for
the transmittance of parasites and pathogens. Another disadvantage is that the birthing and rearing
process is lengthy. Additionally, the process of finding a mate is difficult.(Lane,N,
2009).Furthermore, pregnancy is not guaranteed after the mating process. This causes the 2:1
demography disadvantage where only 50% of the sexual population can produce offspring.
Similarly, only 50% of the parent s genes are passed on as during the combination of genes, half
of the successful genes are disrupted. If a sexually reproducing species expands an unsustainable
rate, it would wreak havoc on the ecosystem and it food chain. As a result, this may result in the
extinction of that species. This phenomenon is called by the J which is the point where the
population of a species may be decimated unexpectedly after reaching its population cap.
Furthermore although the males of some species go to great lengths to attract a mate, it also has the
unfortunate effect of drawing attention to them from predators. An example is the peacock. It has a

Soon afterward, a patent on this process was issued to Marshall in 1960. In the same year,
Tsumura and Sato reported the isolation of a specific soil organism that would produce an enzyme
that converted glucose to fructose (Inglett, 88). By converting large amounts of glucose into
fructose, corn syrup was promoted to high fructose corn syrup, abbreviated as HFCS, one of the
sweetest and most widely used sweeteners available.
However, it took 10 years for it to be sold and available to the public in the United States: High
fructose corn syrup was first mass produced at Clinton Corn Processing Company in 1967
(Ettlinger, 56). Japan actually started using high fructose corn syrup earlier and was the first in the
world to produce them in limited commercial quantities that contained 14 16 percent fructose in
Japan during the mid 1960 s (Inglett, 93). Further research and expansion enabled the industry to
develop a higher conversion and the first commercial shipment of 42 percent fructose syrup took
place a year later (Corn Refiner s Association).
3
Constant improvements in technology allow products to be produced more cheaply and quickly,
which now make it possible to produce profitable products containing 47% fructose (Inglett, 93).
High fructose corn syrup has numerous advantages that make it so much more economically
competitive. Firstly, high fructose corn syrup, on a dry substance basis, has the same

Public Administration Through Different Forms Of Management
The major theme prevalent throughout this week s readings is a detailed look at the study of public
administration through different forms of management.
The two main forms of management discussed in the passages by Shafritz Hyde (2012) and Chester
Barnard (1968) are scientific management and human relations school of management. The theory
of scientific management, first introduced by Frederick W. Taylor (1912, pp. 37 39) proposes
that the driving force behind a man s work is receiving a monetary reward. On the other hand the
theory of human relations, as suggested by Mary Parker Follet (1926, pp. 58 65) and later
validated by the Hawthorne experiments conducted in the 1930s (Shafritz and Hyde, 2012) propose
that the driving force ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He (Barnard, 1968, pp. 65 81, 114 123, 186 199, 215 234) emphasized on the point that there was a
mutually dependent relationship between a formal and informal organization, and in order to
achieve a successful running organization (whether formal or informal) the executive/superior
should ensure that both the needs of the organization as well as the needs of the employee are met
equally.
William Willoughby (1918, pp. 40 43), did prominent work in the field of public administration.
One of his most prominent work is on budgetary reform. Willoughby shared a similar school of
thought as Frederick Taylor, based on the principles of scientific management. Both Willoughby and
Taylor, through their own school of thoughts concluded on the same point that the driving force
behind management/administrative/individual ultimately is monetary/financial. Years later came
along the Luther Gulick, with the Theory of Organization (1937, pp. 81 89), who again shared
Frederick Taylor s ideology of taking a scientific approach to management. Gulick (1937, pp. 81 89)

After the financial crisis in 1998 and the decrease of imported ice cream, the market offered
good opportunities for new domestic entrants. They often already owned the facilities where
they produced for example frozen food and so it was relatively easy to change to ice cream
production. With the needed assets they already possessed they did not face economies of scale
and high initial costs as barrier to entry. And the new regional producers try to compete with the
product differentiation by selling cheaper no name brands. The threat of entry from
international producers could also rise again, if the Russian economy seems to be stable again.
Now it will be look at the threat of rivalry for Ice Fili coming from established competitors in the
industry. Ice Fili s fiercest competitors were international firms who had higher technology
standards and better know how than the Russian companies. But after the economic crisis in
1998 many of them, such as Ben Jerry s, left the Russian market. Those who stayed invested in
domestic production facilities and produced directly in Russia, as for example Unilever, Baskin
Robbins and NestlГ©. By 2001 Unilever had almost withdrawn from the Russian ice cream
market due to lack of experience to deal specially with ice cream and the poor distribution of its
products. Baskin Robbins is still present. It has focused on the restaurant and cafГ© segment and
offers its brands at exceptionally high prices. As

Purpose of the study
The main purpose of this study was to ascertain how lipid transport molecules LDL, HDL, and
triglycerides are linked to neuropsychological function.
Hypothesis (es)
The authors of this study made the hypothesis that elevated levels of triglycerides and LDL
cholesterol would be related to decreased neuropsychological function, with a greater link in the
scopes of memory and executive function.
Participants
A total of 74 females and 46 males participated in this study. All these participants were taken from
two different studies, yet it is to be noted that these studies overlapped one another. The
participants were chosen on the premise of having existing or an absence of cerebrovascular
disease (CVD) risk components, for example, cholesterol, blood pressure, and an atypical regulated
glucose. Out of the one hundred twenty three participants in this study, thirty one of these
participants were chosen from a larger sample taken from the Harvard Cooperative Program on
Aging (HCPA) Clause Pepper Older American Independence Center. The participants that partook in
this program were taken from their respective community, and their reasoning to partake was due to

Comparison Of Catch-22 And Joseph Heller s Idea Of War
What s the Catch?: An Examination of Catch 22 and Joseph Heller s Idea of War Joseph Heller s
Catch 22 is a comical novel of bombardier named Yossarian and his attempt to escape the war
effort of War World II. The novel does not contain a linear plot, which creates some confusion and
uncertainty in the story. Also, the conclusion is not a complete resolution, as Yossarian
finally
manages to escape to Sweden by the end of novel, but that is not the resolution to the war.
Therefore, if Yossarian escaping the war is not the ultimate objective of Catch 22, then what is
Heller trying to convey in his novel? In Catch 22, Heller strives to have his audience understand the
realities of war, which includes the corruption of authority, absurdity,... Show more content on

What did matter was that everyone thought it existed and that was much worse... , since Catch 22 is
not real but people believe it is, it cannot be altered. (Heller 409) Heller also uses Catch 22 to
demonstrate the corruption of authority in war, for example, Colonel Cathcart is responsible for
the number of missions his squadron must fly but under Catch 22 he can continue to raise the
number of missions without a concrete reason. Heller further elaborates on the corruption of
authority in war through other elements of the novel. The hierarchy of authority in Catch 22 is
parallel to a military chain of commands, general, captain, private and etc, but one particular
character holds much more power than his authoritative title grants him, that is Ex. PFC
Wintergreen, a multi demoted private who is in charge of distribution and communication.
Wintergreen is the lowest of low, yet he is able to alter documents and mail to cause
miscommunication between generals and higher ups. Through the ironic characterization of
Wintergreen, Heller conveys that the title position and its authority does not always correspond to
its proportional amount power. Most of the men in high command are selfish and are only
interested in themselves. As Colonel Cathcart expresses ambition to ascend up the authorial ladder,
he continues to increase

Cannibalism Among Neanderthals
Cannibalism is the practice of humans eating the flesh of other humans. The word comes from
the word Canibales. It is the Spanish name for Caribs, a tribe who practiced cannibalism in the
Lesser Antilles. But why do groups practice this? Is it a religious or ritual tradition, a warfare
custom, or simply done out of necessity? There is no one answer to this question, so in this paper I
will try to analyze some different explanations for this. Cannibalismhas been practiced all over the
world and may have been practiced for tens of thousands of years. There are bones from Homo
sapiens that have marks where flesh was cut off that go back 600,000 years. Cannibalism among
Neanderthals is thought to have taken place because of food shortages and... Show more content on

The group got delayed and stranded by early snow when following a new route through Utah.
Out of 87 members, 48 were finally able to make it to California after resorting to cannibalism
for survival. This is one of the most well known examples of cannibalism being used out of
necessity. Another example is the shipwreck of the Essex whaler. A sperm whale attacked and
sunk the ship in 1820. Survivors were stranded for 95 days at sea and were forced to eat five of
the dead crewmembers. Eventually, the men had to draw straws of who would sacrifice
themselves and be eaten. Seven more crewmen were cannibalized until the remaining eight men
were rescued. Tribal societies most commonly practice the act of cannibalism, and can sometimes
be seen as a cultural norm. This is usually done for rituals. Some tribes eat the flesh of dead tribe
members to help the dead person s soul navigate into living offspring. This is an example of endo
cannibalism, where people are consumed within the tribe, usually part of a grieving process.
During wartime, enemies might be eaten to glorify a victory. In Melanesia, enemies might have
been eaten to insult their people. Some groups think eating the flesh of another person would give
them that person s characteristics. An example of a cannibalistic tribe is the Korowai

Analysis Of The Mask Of Masculinity By Connor Beaton
It s a hard time to be male in America and that fact alone should make everyone want to change it.
In the Ted Talk The Mask of Masculinity by Connor Beaton, he described how men are faced with
many challenges throughout their whole life. This includes being taught not to have emotion and
that their highest value in life is to have dominance and control. If they portray any kind of
feminine traits like singing, dancing or love, they are automatically not a real mananymore. Beaton
claims that the biggest challenge menface is, . . . being able to overcome and move through some of
the negative stereotypes that surround masculinity. The biggest problem today is that men think in
order to succeed in life, they have to be in total control and

The Cause Of The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Incident
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Incident was a tragic event that occured due to poor safety
precautions. It occured in New York City on March 25, 1911 on the eighth and ninth floors of
the Asch building and it is the deadliest industrial disaster of that city and it also considered one
of the deadliest in US History. The factory normally employed about 500 workers, mostly young
immigrant women, who worked nine hours a day on weekdays plus seven hours on Saturdays
earning 2 dollars for a 14 hour work day. Several events led up to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory
Incident. Many workers were demanding shorter hours, better pay, and safer shops, so they
formed a labor union. However, the owners did not want to succeed to the labor union s pleads
and demands because they were terrified that unions would diminish their authority over the
workplace. Despite the owners unwillingness, many of them succeeded to the labor unions
demands because there was a lot of strikes in companies and they needed their workers for the
upcoming busy work season. However, the owners of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory: Max
Blanck and Isaac Harris, did not want to succeed to those pleads because their profits were
declining and they did not have enough resources to please the workers demands. The company
sales were declining because their style of clothing was antiquated and it could not keep up with
the new extravagant fashion trends. There was also a lot of competition from the 500 blouse makers

Nurse Mentoring Concept Analysis Response
Nurse Mentoring Concept Analysis Response
Introduction
According to McEwen and Wills, concepts in the nursing profession are words that describe a
variable of nursing practice (2014, pg. 50). Concepts, once defined, are used in research to test
hypotheses that will increase knowledge and theory development. However, concept definitions
change with time and context. Therefore, it is important to thoroughly and succinctly define
concepts within an analysis for a meaningful application.
Mentoring in nursing practice has been thought of as a beneficial way of increasing nursing
knowledge for several decades (Stewart Krueger, 1996, pg. 311). However, the concept of
mentoring had not been defined or analyzed, which made researching its effectiveness useless. This
concept analysis of mentoring in nursing practice shows that mentoring can be mutually beneficial
for a mentor, protГ©gГ©, and nursing practice. However, further research on this concept is
necessary to determine the broader application to nursing as a scientific discipline.
Method of Analysis
In the concept analysis of mentoring, Stewart and Krueger used the evolutionary method by
Rodgers (Stewart Krueger, 1996, pg. 312). This method involves multiple steps of analysis that are
often occurring concurrently rather than completing a step after one is completed. The benefit of
this method is that it has clear phases in the analytical process but is time efficient because steps
are occurring at the same time. It also

I have compared their stats, the number of rings they have and, a few other things that they have
completed in their NBA career. If you think about and, look into it, Lebron James may be the
better player. Lebron has won more rings, earned more money, and has more popularity than
Kevin Durant. You also have to look at Kevin Durant stats as where he is right now. If you look
into it, Kevin Durant is on his way to a great NBA player, possibly Hall Of Fame, after he retires,
which will be a while along the road. Lebron James career will be greatly remembered from the
beginning to the end, which will be soon, because he has done so much for every team he has
played for, which has only been two teams. Kevin Durant has also done very much for the two
teams he has been on, but he has not done it like Lebron James, because Lebron has won a ring
with Miami, and in Cleveland. While Kevin Durant has only won a ring with one of the teams he

Disadvantages Of Hotel Overbooking
If one were to ponder the question of whether hotels should overbook their rooms the answer may
appear to be quite simple. Why would a hotel owner want to book more reservations for rooms
than they actually had available? This is precisely why this issue has faced the hotel industry for a
number of years. Contrary to what the average person may think about hotelowners overbooking
their rooms, it has actually shown itself to be a noble strategy in achieving maximum profitability
when done accurately. It is imperative that it is done in an appropriate manner so as to not give the
hotel a corrupt name or lead to guest dissatisfaction.

The hope is to have all the rooms on the property occupied on any given night; due to the fact of
no shows and cancellations hotels may decide to overbook. Though hotel overbooking can offer
success to a vast array of hotels, it is clear that there are also some disadvantages that could
spawn from it. In his article, The Impact of Overbooking on Hotels Operation Management,
Vladimir Sashov Zhechev notes some of the possible consequences that could result for
overbooking when all of the guests do actually show up that had a reservation. For example, if a
customer has made a reservation at a certain hotel and arrives there only to discover that their
room has been given to another guest who also had a reservation, it is only logical that the guest is
going to be quite irate. It is now the duty of the hotel to arrange for that customer to have alternate
lodging accommodations, as well as provide transportation for them to get to their other destination
(Zhechev et. al Ivanov 7). Additionally, the hotel may offer the guest a free night on their stay or
their next stay due to the complications they have just experienced on their visit. This now has
ended up costing the hotel money that it will now take as a

The United States Has The Largest Prison Population In
The United States has the largest prison population in the world, but fails to perform the duties of
successful correctional facilities. The lack of rehabilitation leads to unsuccessful reintegration
into society as people released from prison are soon sent back for committing yet another crime,
contributing to a violent crime rate of 372.6 per 100,000 inhabitants in the US in 2015 (FBI
National Press Office, 2016). According to the US Department of Justice, more than 10,000
convicted criminals are released from US prisons each week and approximately two thirds of them
are rearrested within three years (2015). We must fix the US prisonsystem because I fear that by

Further, in order to lower the recidivism rate, ex convicts must receive some sort of help to
successfully reintegrate into society upon release. The successful rehabilitation of convicted
criminals and the successful prisoner reintegration into society would ultimately lead to a safer
and more capable society by lowering the recidivism rate, making those the policy goals and
outcomes the ones that matter most. I chose to study Norway s prison policy because I have
heard that Norway has the most humane prisons in the world and I wished to research what that
meant and how successful those humane policies really are. Norway is worth looking at because
their recidivism rate is very low, suggesting that their prison policy is successful. According to the
World Prison Brief, Institute for Criminal Policy Research, in 2016, the incarceration rate in
Norway was 74 per 100,000 inhabitants, based on an estimated national population of 5.25
million, resulting in a total prison population of 3,874; the occupancy level of their prisons is
89.9%. Their low incarceration rate is, in part, contributed to by that Norway does not subject
convicts to long stays in prison. In fact, the average

Similarities Between America And Greek Immigration

fascinated by each other. Everyone has a different story, whether it s something big like
immigration or something small like family tradition. These differences don t pull us apart, but
show us how unique we are and that being the same isn t always the best. While the typical
Greek immigrant left due to economic failure, prospered in America, and brought their rich
culture with them, the same cannot be said for my family. While there were some similarities
between the immigration of the typical Greek and my family, there are also many differences.
Leaving The year was 1820, and Greek emigration to America had just begun. More Greeks
began living outside of Greece rather than inside. There were more than 500,000 Greek
immigrants who had landed in America between 1820 and 1924, and approximately two thirds of
them had made America their permanent home (Moskos 335). So what began this mass migration
of the Greeks? Most major emigrations are caused by some kind of collapse, whether it is

Critical Pedagogy Analysis
In The Art of Critical Pedagogy, Jeffrey Duncan Andrade and Ernest Morrell provide vivid
examples on how critical pedagogy is beneficial for academic success amongst individuals of
color. Critical pedagogy is a multicultural form of teaching that is rooted in the essential
experiences of marginalized peoples; that is centered in a critique of structural, economic, and
racial oppression; that is focused on dialogue instead of a one way transmission of knowledge; and
that is structured to empower individuals and collectives as agents of social change . (Duncan
Andrade and Morrell, 2008, p. 49) This style of teaching is essential within urban schools, as it

In comparison to canonical form of teaching, students begin to learn and appreciate the unique and
equally meaningful aspects of their culture (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Critical pedagoy
that has provided cultural relevance has led me to become a more engaged student. By reading
Toni Morrison s book, The Bluest Eye, I often found myself more intrigued in learning similar
academic pieces, as the characters often displayed cultural characteristic that were nearly identical
to my personal experiences. This teaching practice kept me engaged with the literature, allowing
me to perform higher academically. Similar to my experience, students of color that began to
partake in culturally relevant courses often endure a vast improvement of their intellectual
performance. As a result, many began to take Advanced Placement courses and were able to
matriculate to four year universities (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Not only does critical
pedagogy allow for a deeper understanding of the curriculum, it also provides critical thinking skills
and intellectual resources that are not often provided to students of

The Pros And Cons Of Charter Schools
Going through school and especially high school, I would hear things having to do with what
regular public school teachers think of charter schools, both good and bad. The majority of what
I heard was along the lines of charter schools being proper education or if they even constituted as
proper education. Do they have the same or at least some of the same standards, educationally or
not, to give students a well rounded learning experience? Being a future teacher, I just want to
know more about them and how they work in depth. I am genuinely interested in this topic because
I could possibly be an employee at a charter schoolone day. Even if I am not an employee of a

time on english (Chudowsky et al. 6). Obviously, if English is the main focus, then math scores
will not be as high. Bottom line, regular public schools are still out performing charter schools,
but why? Another NCES study suggests that larger class sizes in charter schools are one of what
could be may causes. With larger class sizes, students are not given as much one on one time. This

The Ability Of Overcome Degenerative Policy Making Is...
The ability to overcome degenerative policy making is through policy analysis which deconstructs
policy designs in order to expose degenerative characteristics and deceptions (Schneider Ingram
1997). Public policy needs to be inclusive and should provide a clear vision of possibilities,
explanations of how and why antidemocratic elements are embedded in policydesigns, and
interpretations of how designs impact democratic life (Schneider Ingram 1997, 207). According to
Stone (2011), knowledge tools reduce the need for coercive action or force because in the rational
model, information will resolve conflict between actual behavior and desired behavior.
Providing knowledge or educating make it unnecessary to incentivize or sanction the target in
order to elicit the desired behavior. Instead, lack of information or capacity is the primary barrier,
and once the appropriate information is relayed to the target, the desired behavior will follow
(Schneider Ingram, 1997; Stone, 2011). However, people use a variety of strategies to help their
interests and political goals. Critics of rational choice theory contend that people act largely
according to prior attitudes and beliefs rather than new information (Stone, 2011, p. 314). One must
be aware of human and social behavior if they are to try and analyze policy.
Schneider Ingram (1997) identify some general principles (203 206) to look for during policy
analysis. Target groups should be constructed across the lines of

With all of the knowledge that has been obtained since the beginning of the exploration into

evolutionary cycle is arranged is still under debate to this day. However, through reading the book,
watching the videos, and through my own knowledge I believe that there is roughly 7 subspecies of
ancestors in which fall between the time of Australopithecus sediba and Homo erectus.
Starting with Australopithecus sediba which was found by the young boy in the first video was

This species was dated from 2.4 to 1.5 million years ago (Human Evolution). As you can see many
of the species overlap one another and that is why our cycle is so differentiating. The Homo habilis

around 5 foot tall and had a brain much bigger that Australopithecus but still smaller than that of
Homo erectus. He walk on two feet and resembled man much more that primate. It also had a very
large area in the brain that supports language which also promotes a potential for culture (Human
Evolution).
Lastly, we come to Homo erectus which date back from 1.8 million years to about 200,000 years
ago. Homo erectus has been found in Africa and Asia which makes it the first wide ranging
species of its kind (Human Evolution). Despite the look of Homo erectus s skull it was very

  • 2. Catalase Lab Introduction This research experiment will fundamentally focus on the activity of catalase, an enzyme that can be found in nearly every living organism. The essential function of catalase is to decompose hydrogen peroxide to produce water and oxygen. This enzyme also plays a major role within the protection of the cell from the oxidative damage that the reactive oxygenspecies are capable of causing. In addition, catalase is known to have the ability of chemically converting substrates such as hydrogen peroxideat the rate of approximately 5 million molecules to water and oxygen per second. In terms of its biochemical structure, this enzymehas folded protein subunits organized in a multi subunit complex of four polypeptide chains, with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the chemical reaction progresses, the presence and production of oxygen will determine the rate of the enzyme s activity through the process. The rate of reaction of the enzyme set with every different temperature will be acquired by measuring the amount of oxygen produced and present within the test tubes in terms of the height its foam in millimeters within each trial. If the amount of foam or the oxygen gas formed appears to be large, it will indicate that the rate of the enzyme s activity is relatively rapid. Likewise, if the the amount of oxygen appears to be relatively fall under a lower range of foam height, it will indicate that the rate of the enzyme s activity is slower. Nevertheless, because this enzyme is a form of protein, it is appropriate to indicate that it is very fragile. This is because as the temperature of the enzyme increases, the amino acids within the catalase cause a vibration to separate intramolecular bonds. This leads to the an irreversible alteration of the protein s structure to the point where hydrogen peroxide, the substrate no longer has the ability to be attached to the active site, which disrupts the entire function of the ... • 3. Emotional Voices Of Shakespeare s The Merchant Of... William Shakespeare expresses Shylock and Hamlet s emotional voices explicitly throughout both plays: The Merchant of Venice and Hamlet. The emotional voices in both texts were due to the tragic incidences each protagonist Shylock and Hamlet endured. In The Merchant of Venice the emotions seen within the text are hatred and penitence, whereas in Hamletthe audience can infer that the emotions portrayed are depression, pain and terror; thus instigating that there is a contrasting concept between The Merchant of Veniceand Hamlet. This can be seen through Hamlet s situation where his emotions were triggered by his father s passing. As stated in Act 4 Scene 4, he utters: My thoughts be bloody or be nothing worth . The word bloody suggests that he has malicious intentions as he indicated obliviously that he wanted to avenge his father. Hamlet cannot afford to think of anything other than his unsettled task: execute his father s assumed murderer. This brings out his emotional voice vengeance as the death of his father had an enormous impact on him, leading him to become depressed and paranoid throughout the play. Dissimilarly, Shylock s emotionhad been caused by the mistreatment he suffered as a result of him being a Jew in a Christian community. Anti Semitism was omnipresent in Venice, signifying that Shylock was discriminated against pervasively. This led him to channel all his anger towards the Christians because of the inevitable exploitation he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Billy CollinsLitany And Mrs Darwin How do Billy Collins Litany and Carol Ann Duffy s Mrs Darwin effectively challenge accepted conventions and encourage new ideas and opinions? Billy Collins and Carol Ann Duffy, in their poems Litany and Mrs Darwin respectively, challenge accepted conventions of love through satire. Collins parodies the convention of Western love poetry to compare the beloved to objects in nature. The title of the poem, Litany, admits to a long, tedious list and the first two lines of the poem, an allusion to Jacques Crickillon s poem, highlights Litany as a critique of traditional love poetry while Mrs Darwin parodies the structure of a scientific journal. This structure allows Duffy to humour the audience with the thought that it was this offhand mockery that led to the infamous The Origin of Species, published seven years after 7 April 1852, while the first three rhyming lines that builds up to the punchline, separated by a dash, reminds the reader of the familiar form of a joke. Comparatively, Collin employs end stops to allow the reader to pause between each metaphor, to emphasise his message and to create rhythm in his poem. Collins criticises the idealism of love, because while she is the bread and the knife he also comments on her deficiencies, telling there is just no way she has some of these qualities. Similarly, Duffy satirises Charles Darwin s scientific observations of animals, as she is similarly observing her husband as she plants the idea of evolution in his head, ... • 5. Fate In How Mordred In the chapter of Malory s How Mordred was Born and King Arthur Learned of His Parentage , Arthur decides to go an an adventure and, along the way gets into multiple altercations. During his travels, Arthur meets Merlin who then decides to accompany him. Some important themes that are seen in this prose romance are death, power, courage and most importantly fate. The author suggests that fate is completely predetermined, there is no ways to change the outcome of one s life. The idea that life is based solely on fate will be seen through battles, tools given to ensure survival, Merlin s powerful influence, as well as incest. To start with, Arthur is someone who gets into multiple dangerous situations and Merlin must be there to repeatedly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After he sleeps with her, he goes on a quest where he encounters the strangest beast he [has] ever seen or heard of (25). This beast that he sees is the Questing Beast which symbolizes incest. Continually, since Arthur is seeing this beast represents that the sexual relationship he has with Morgues is wrong. Moreover, Merlin also knows of the deed that Arthur has done and decides to tell him you have lain by your sister and on her you have conceived a child that shall destroy you and all the knights of your realm (26). This causes Arthur to be aware that his fate is to die at the ends of Mordred. This shows that no matter the choices Arthur will make, his fate will not change. Arthur knows Modred will kill him, this is the reason Arthur decides to follow Merlin s advice and to have all children born on May day put in a ship and sent out to sea (33). To send out all of these children is to make sure that the son he conceived will not be his demise. Mordred survives May day which proves that Arthur s fate is predetermined no matter the course he chooses. To conclude, Malory, in the chapter How Mordred was Born and Arthur Learned of His Parentage , shows that Arthur s fate is already made for him; that none of the choices he makes will change how his life is supposed to end. Throughout this prose romance, Merlin is there to make sure that Arthur will survive. How Merlin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Edmund Perry On June 12th, 1985 Officer Lee Van Houten was attacked by two young, black men who tried to mug him. The youngest of the boys, Edmund Perry, my client was shot by the officer. The jury has just convicted Edmund on charges of assault, battery and resisting arrest, crimes of which are punishable with sentences of up to 30 years. However I do not believe Edmund attentively committed the crimes because of his remarkable character and academic achievements. Instead, he did it as a result of the expectations of him at Exeter, his home in Harlem, and the local junior high school Wadleigh, all of which are conflicting against each other. Exeter is a prestigious school known round the world. When thinking about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (180) The students at Exeter are well aware of what they have to accomplish. The 40 colored students of Edmunds class might have felt pressure to succeed more than their white peers. On a daily basis Edmund had to prove that he could do what the white students were capable of. This caused him to feel inadequate because he had to try harder and put in more effort than they did. Whatever Edmund did he would never be considered as equal when compared to his white peers. Secondly, Edmund also had great expectations from his mother, Veronica Perry who had many struggles in her life. However, regardless of her faults she strived for the best education she could attain. This yearning was something she instilled in her children. They are bringing you up here because they want to learn about black people. They want to learn about black people they want to learn about their world. You have to teach them, and you have to learn about their world. • 7. Day Of Conformity Analyzing a Day of nonconformity Conformity is thought to be an important force in human evolution because it has the potential to stabilize cultural similarities between cultural diversity groups (ClaidiГЁre, Bowler, Brookes, Brown, Whiten, 2014). However, the effects of conformity can make us change the way we behave and think due to the individuals are around us. According to Myers and Twenge (2015), there are two varieties of conformity that happen when we are trying to adapt or change our behavior in order to feel socially accepted by society. The first type of conformity is acceptance, which is when we sincerely believe what others are telling us. The second type of conformity is compliance, which is when we conform to the expectations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, the cost for not conforming can make a personfeel excluded and isolated from certain group activities. In my opinion, I think that the benefits of living authentically outweigh its cost because if people were always conforming to society, then we would not be able to think outside the box, or even realize that we have a strong character to accomplish what we set out to do. Usually, I conform to my peers by dressing similarly in a pair of shorts, a shirt, and sneakers. But on the day of nonconformity, I decided to wear a sweater with long pants, and sandals. As for my behavior, I typically conform to doing favors for my friends more than for other coworkers. On the day of nonconformity, my coworkers and friends did notice the change in appearance but not so much in my behavior, as I was not able to deny them a favor when they asked me for help. Therefore, they did not act differently towards ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The source is wrong because social media is keeping people connected to one another and to the world around them. When we engage in social media and we are instantly connected with the greater world. In 2017 it was reported that 2.46 billion people were actively using social media. It estimated that by 2021 this number will grow to 3.02 billion users. Chances are that so far today, you have already checked at least one form of social media; this goes to show how widespread social media has become in our society.Social media has become an ever present force in our modern society and there is no way to escape it. Erik Qualman said We don t have a choice on whether we do social media, the question is how well we do it , this quote shows how widespread social media has become and that eventually, everyone will be an active user. There is a new pillarthat is supporting our society and it is social media; something that is completely controlled by the people and is literally accessible at our fingertips. The source is incorrect because we are now able to connect with others on a level that we haven t been able to before. There has never been a time where we have been presented with so much information and we have been able to share so much about ourselves. • 9. Political Views on Angels in America Political Views on Angels in America The representation of individualism and stagnation during the presidency of Ronald Reagan, juxtaposed to Kushner s progress and collectivism. Angel: Greetings Prophet! The Great Work Begins: The Messenger has arrived. Prior: Go Away. (Kushner, 149) Throughout Part Two of Tony Kushner s play Angels in America, Prior the Prophet envisions progress in the world after the Angel confronts him at the end of Part One. The red line connecting Prior and the Angel throughout the play is this progress juxtaposed to stagnation, wherein the Angel wants Prior to prophesize a stop of movement, a stop to understanding the world and a stop to the want of humanity to advance (178). Prior is conflicted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same relation can be found in Reagan s inaugural address from 1981, where he speaks of how unique we really are, and we are a united people pledged to maintaining a political system which guarantees individual liberty to a greater degree than any other (Reagan). He speaks of a united people, but the emphasis remains on the individual liberty and self rule he later mentions in the same address. This representation of Republic individualism is not only visible in Joe and Roy as discussed by Corby (19 20), but can also be found in reference to the Angel. On multiple occasions the Angel, when appearing to Prior, lays emphasis on herself by his repetition of I. Another way of accentuating the individual is in his praise of the Prophet, Prior. Both can be seen in the following passage when the Angel presents herself to Prior for the first time: I I I I Am the Bird Of America, the Bald Eagle, Continental Principality, LUMEN PHOSPHOR FLUOR CANDLE! I unfold my leaves, Bright steel, In salutation open sharp before you: PRIOR WALTER Long descended, well prepared (Kushner, 170) I I I I lays focus on this individual entity, representing herself as the Bird of America, clearly connecting it in a similar way Reagan did in his address. The Long descended, well prepared Prior is idolized as the Prophet, the one who needs to relay his message to the people. The phrase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Sunday On La Grande Jatte Analysis Imagine a painting comprised of thousands of tiny dots that have been strategically placed in a pattern to form an image. The pioneer of pointillism and Neo impressionism Georges Pierre Seurat sparked a new art movement and painting technique which was associated with creating the appearance of solid figures using points of pure color grouped together. His creation of this art style was inspired by his desire to abandon Impressionism. Seurat s most famous paintings of the 19th century is the art piece made by Frenchman Georges Seuratcalled A Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte which uses the pointillismapproach. It was painted between 1885 1886. The technique he chose took much longer to produce, which is why it took him more than two years... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the figures in the painting, you can see sunbathers, soldiers, men in top hats, women with parasols, dogs, and a monkey. According to an article, it states that a monkey in French (and female) is known as singesse, denoting a prostitute. The smartly dressed woman is fishing but for what ( Seurat s Grande Jatte , n.d.). I found this interesting because when I first saw this painting, I first assumed it was just a regular painting of wealthy citizens relaxing and did not suspect anything of the monkey strangely being present. The women on the right is holding a leash to the monkey which many critics suspect that Seurat is trying to say through symbolism that this woman is a prostitute who is out for a stroll with her client and that she is fishing for more. On the left of the photo, you see a woman dressed in orange fishing by the water, which seems innocent. According to an online dictionary, the French word for fish is pГЄcher , which some believe is a plan on word as the French word for sin is pГ©cher (Dave, The Psychology of Geometry ). References to prostitution used the words pГЄche (fishing) and pГ©chГ© (sin) a lot in French cartoons. The artist may be hinting that they are both prostitutes and demonstrates the art piece s satirical nature. Not only are they suspect prostitutes, but they may have been proletarian women that have become superficially bourgeois through prostitution. Seurat adds another perspective to the comparison of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, hinting the superficiality and immorality behind the high class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Cultural Reflection Paper When I think of culture, I think of what activities people normally do, things they wear, and even the food they eat. I grew up as a military brat, meaning I grew up in a military family. I traveled a lot and I have got to see all types of cultures, and I like them all for different reasons. I was born in Germany, and I love their culturebecause they are happy with who they are, they have really cool traditions, and I love their food. In Germany, if a person saw a 12 year old drinking alcohol, it is perfectly normal, whereas in our culture, it is wrong if a person saw that happening. Why is that? Well for starters, their country is more developed because they understand how to keep their citizens safe. While I was there, when children had to go to school, someone could see a 5 year old walking to school by themselves. People do not think if their child is going to get kidnapped or killed while they are by themselves. In the U.S., we obviously have a lot of problems with those kinds of things. Here, if a 5 year old is by themselves on the streets, it is called neglect. When I think of culture, I think of what activities people normally do, things they wear, and even the food they eat. • 12. Decaying Gratification Aristotle once formed a compelling viewpoint, stating in his discussion on self mastery that many individuals choose to have a weakness of will. In other words, they know what is best for them, but still choose to do something else. In an experiment done by Walter Michel, many of the individuals in the experiment have proven to make a rational decision to not do something that their basic instincts were pushing them to do. Aristotle s engrossing point of view has shown that willpower can be achieved, and make the impossible things possible. Based on my own experience, I had not thought about delaying gratification or self control. Typically, I try to make decisions to act in ways that will benefit me, although sometimes I slip into a moment of weakness. When the Oreo was placed on my desk, my basic instinct was that I was hungry. Even though I knew that I could receive another Oreo, if I waited until the end of class to eat it, I had slipped into a instant of frailty and eventually, just succumbed to it. However, what is unique about this decision, is that each person s decision is directly affected by the other person s decision, and vice versa. The outcome of their reaction is dependent on what the other person decided to say. The popular example is of two prisoners who each must separately decide on whether or not to confess to a crime. Each prisoner has the choice as to confess to the crime or to deny their own involvement. This is just an example, though, as the Prisoner s Dilemma can be applied to many different scenarios. • 17. The Impact Of The Gnostic Movement On The Way Of Looking... Historically, man has developed a number of ways of looking at the world, using either theoretical models or empirical demonstrations to unearth the truth behind the unknown. Whilst positivist scientific theory tries to explain the world around us, theology, unlike the scientific method, relies on a greater degree of theoretical and explanatory approaches, rather than focusing on purely practical evidence. For this reason, relying on purely theoretical foundations attracted a range of diverging opinions and conclusions within the early Christian Church, as various participants tended to adhere to their own views based on their grounded beliefs. The Gnostic movement can be linked to the early Christian movement; however, many of the elements are not associated with the current practises of Christianity. However, the underlying belief in a single and absolute higher power remains. In this essay, I will argue that Gnosticism was originally a key factor in the Christian movement, which in turn contributed to the spread of Christianity throughout the world, yet it does not necessarily define the modern view of Christianity, particularly so with regard to the modern missionary movement as compared with the early missions of Christ s followers. Gnosticism was originally the practise of surrendering oneself to a supreme deity and involved shunning the material world. These ideas had their roots in gnosis, a belief that there is a divine power through which humans could be redeemed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Effect Of Peroxidase Production On Stressed Plants Essay This experiment used beets to determine peroxidase production in stressed plants. The purpose of this experiment was to test if the stressed plant would produce more peroxidase in a higher concentration than the control plant. The stressor for this experiment was watering with salt water. This stressor was chosen because it is a natural stressor to plants; especially along the coasts and where roads are salted in winter such as the Midwest. The control plantwas watered with plain tap water while the experimental plant was watered with tap water plus salt. The salt water concentration was 1.2341 molar. After the two week stress period the stressed plant was much smaller, wilted, and shriveled compared to the control plant. It also had less water content overall, which made the extraction process somewhat more challenging. To test the peroxidase production in the plants several methods were used, including: tissue printing, DOT blot assay, electrophoretic analysis, and a spectrophotometric assay. It was concluded that the stressed plant did produce more peroxidase than the control plant and in a higher concentration. I think that if the school were to become more lenient on the tank top rule, students will feel more comfortable in the school during the warmer months, and they will spend less time complaining about the heat, allowing more ability to focus on schoolwork. In 2009, Elizabeth Forward banned students from wearing jeans with holes in them. When the new rule was put into affect, students started a chain text message suggesting that everyone wear jeans with holes in them the next day. When the teachers and administration learned about the plan, they threatened the students with in school suspension each day they wore torn up jeans; this did not stop the students. The students believed that if enough of their peers participated, they could not be given in school suspension simply because they could not fit everyone in the in school suspension room. Sexual reproduction is the combination of two sex cells while asexual reproduction is the division of the cell into smaller genetically identical copies.Sexual reproduction is vital process of life. Life Ascending: The Ten Great Invention of Evolutionby Nick Lane, a British biochemist explains the path of evolution. This work received the Royal Society Prize for Science Books prize in 2010. The author has a PHD in biochemistry and was an honorary researcher for the University College London. This suggests that he is reliable as he has the highest possible qualification in his field, the PHD. The purpose of this critique is analyze the theories about the importance of sexual reproductionand the advantages and disadvantages of both forms of reproduction. Sexual reproduction also has some disadvantages. For example, it causes harmful mutations such as diseases, illnesses and birth defects. (Lane,N, 2009). STDs or Sexually Transmitted Diseases are a massive risk to sexually reproducing populations as the mating process is the ideal time for the transmittance of parasites and pathogens. Another disadvantage is that the birthing and rearing process is lengthy. Additionally, the process of finding a mate is difficult.(Lane,N, 2009).Furthermore, pregnancy is not guaranteed after the mating process. This causes the 2:1 demography disadvantage where only 50% of the sexual population can produce offspring. Similarly, only 50% of the parent s genes are passed on as during the combination of genes, half of the successful genes are disrupted. If a sexually reproducing species expands an unsustainable rate, it would wreak havoc on the ecosystem and it food chain. As a result, this may result in the extinction of that species. This phenomenon is called by the J which is the point where the population of a species may be decimated unexpectedly after reaching its population cap. Furthermore although the males of some species go to great lengths to attract a mate, it also has the unfortunate effect of drawing attention to them from predators. An example is the peacock. In the same year, Tsumura and Sato reported the isolation of a specific soil organism that would produce an enzyme that converted glucose to fructose (Inglett, 88). By converting large amounts of glucose into fructose, corn syrup was promoted to high fructose corn syrup, abbreviated as HFCS, one of the sweetest and most widely used sweeteners available. However, it took 10 years for it to be sold and available to the public in the United States: High fructose corn syrup was first mass produced at Clinton Corn Processing Company in 1967 (Ettlinger, 56). Japan actually started using high fructose corn syrup earlier and was the first in the world to produce them in limited commercial quantities that contained 14 16 percent fructose in Japan during the mid 1960 s (Inglett, 93). Further research and expansion enabled the industry to develop a higher conversion and the first commercial shipment of 42 percent fructose syrup took place a year later (Corn Refiner s Association). 3 Constant improvements in technology allow products to be produced more cheaply and quickly, which now make it possible to produce profitable products containing 47% fructose (Inglett, 93). Public Administration Through Different Forms Of Management The major theme prevalent throughout this week s readings is a detailed look at the study of public administration through different forms of management. The two main forms of management discussed in the passages by Shafritz Hyde (2012) and Chester Barnard (1968) are scientific management and human relations school of management. The theory of scientific management, first introduced by Frederick W. Taylor (1912, pp. 37 39) proposes that the driving force behind a man s work is receiving a monetary reward. On the other hand the theory of human relations, as suggested by Mary Parker Follet (1926, pp. 58 65) and later validated by the Hawthorne experiments conducted in the 1930s (Shafritz and Hyde, 2012) propose that the driving force ... William Willoughby (1918, pp. 40 43), did prominent work in the field of public administration. One of his most prominent work is on budgetary reform. Willoughby shared a similar school of thought as Frederick Taylor, based on the principles of scientific management. Years later came along the Luther Gulick, with the Theory of Organization (1937, pp. 81 89), who again shared Frederick Taylor s ideology of taking a scientific approach to management. They often already owned the facilities where they produced for example frozen food and so it was relatively easy to change to ice cream production. With the needed assets they already possessed they did not face economies of scale and high initial costs as barrier to entry. Heller further elaborates on the corruption of authority in war through other elements of the novel. The hierarchy of authority in Catch 22 is parallel to a military chain of commands, general, captain, private and etc, but one particular character holds much more power than his authoritative title grants him, that is Ex. Wintergreen is the lowest of low, yet he is able to alter documents and mail to cause miscommunication between generals and higher ups. Out of 87 members, 48 were finally able to make it to California after resorting to cannibalism for survival. This is one of the most well known examples of cannibalism being used out of necessity. Another example is the shipwreck of the Essex whaler. A sperm whale attacked and sunk the ship in 1820. Survivors were stranded for 95 days at sea and were forced to eat five of the dead crewmembers. Eventually, the men had to draw straws of who would sacrifice themselves and be eaten. Seven more crewmen were cannibalized until the remaining eight men were rescued. Tribal societies most commonly practice the act of cannibalism, and can sometimes be seen as a cultural norm. This is usually done for rituals. Some tribes eat the flesh of dead tribe members to help the dead person s soul navigate into living offspring. This is an example of endo cannibalism, where people are consumed within the tribe, usually part of a grieving process. During wartime, enemies might be eaten to glorify a victory. • 45. Nurse Mentoring Concept Analysis Response Nurse Mentoring Concept Analysis Response Introduction According to McEwen and Wills, concepts in the nursing profession are words that describe a variable of nursing practice (2014, pg. 50). Concepts, once defined, are used in research to test hypotheses that will increase knowledge and theory development. However, concept definitions change with time and context. Therefore, it is important to thoroughly and succinctly define concepts within an analysis for a meaningful application. Mentoring in nursing practice has been thought of as a beneficial way of increasing nursing knowledge for several decades (Stewart Krueger, 1996, pg. 311). However, the concept of mentoring had not been defined or analyzed, which made researching its effectiveness useless. This concept analysis of mentoring in nursing practice shows that mentoring can be mutually beneficial for a mentor, protГ©gГ©, and nursing practice. However, further research on this concept is necessary to determine the broader application to nursing as a scientific discipline. Method of Analysis In the concept analysis of mentoring, Stewart and Krueger used the evolutionary method by Rodgers (Stewart Krueger, 1996, pg. 312). This method involves multiple steps of analysis that are often occurring concurrently rather than completing a step after one is completed. The benefit of this method is that it has clear phases in the analytical process but is time efficient because steps are occurring at the same time. It also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ability to overcome degenerative policy making is through policy analysis which deconstructs policy designs in order to expose degenerative characteristics and deceptions (Schneider Ingram 1997). Public policy needs to be inclusive and should provide a clear vision of possibilities, explanations of how and why antidemocratic elements are embedded in policydesigns, and interpretations of how designs impact democratic life (Schneider Ingram 1997, 207). According to Stone (2011), knowledge tools reduce the need for coercive action or force because in the rational model, information will resolve conflict between actual behavior and desired behavior. Providing knowledge or educating make it unnecessary to incentivize or sanction the target in order to elicit the desired behavior.
