Call Of The Wild Research Paper
The great author Stephen King once said, As a nation, we ve been through too many fights to
preserve our rights of free thought to let them go just because some prude with a highlighter
doesn t approve of them. As the opposition might say, material such as The Call of the Wild are
too mature for 8th grade students. But, for many reasons I believe such material is very fitting
for an 8th grade curriculum. First, it is a wonderful example of American literature with many
great morals. Secondly, it explores many historical topics about America s history. Lastly, banning
one book will only lead to the banning of other books. The first topic I will discuss is how The Call
of the Wild is a wonderful piece of American Literature.
The Call ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book is set in the time period of the Klondike Gold Rush which started about 1896. Many
people were desperate to strike it rich, for there was a depression in the lower 48 at the time. In the
book we are shown Buck being taken to the Yukon to be a sled dog. As it says in the plot summary,
...the mail carrier sells them to a group of American gold hunters Hal, Charles, and Mercedes.
This shows how Buck was thrown around between owners which was common, because the
demand for sled dogs was very high. All of these examples are historically accurate and can teach
a student a lot about life during the Klondike Gold Rush. On the other hand, the opposing claim
may say, history is taught in a History class and is not taught in English class. In my opinion,
history is what makes literature come alive. It challenges the reader to learn more about the time
period and how it relates to the story. Along with that, many famous books such as The
Adventures of Huckleberry Fin and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer are all directly related to a
specific time in history. In all, the historical setting of The Call of the Wild makes it a fine
novella to use in any 8th grade curriculum. Lastly, I will look at how if one book gets banned it
may lead to many other books being

sider BACKGROUND Efficient market theory examines how accurately stock prices signal
resource allocation alloc and fully reflect all available information. Fama (1970) introduced the
efficient market hypothesis stating there are three forms of efficiency: weak, semi strong, and
strong. A market semi strong, that incorporates all historical information is said to be weak form
efficient, while one that responds to all publicly available informatio is semi strong efficient. In a
semiinformation strong efficient market, prices instantly change to reflect publicly available
information. A strong form market, strong responds to all information, both public and private.
The hypothesis claims that achieving above average returns on a risk adjusted basis is impossible
(Fama 1970). (Fama, The lowest level of market efficiency, weak form, states that the market only
reacts to historical information. This means that no one can earn above normal returns based on
published historical information; however, the market does not quickly react to new public or
private information. It may be possible then, in a weak form efficient market, to obtain abnormal
returns form using either new publicly available or private insider information (Fama 1970).
(Fama, A semi strong form market is more efficient that a weak form, as it reacts to publicly strong

The Impact of Television on American Society Essay
The Impact of Television on American Society
What role does television play in society? For decades we have seen many parts of our world
rapidly going through changes in technology. Today s society has been transformed by means of
communication and the available information through mass media. Most Americans rely on
television for news, sports, and entertainment. Television is just one of the many examples of how
technology has changed our lives. Since the invention of the television in the early 1900 s, it has
played a very important role in our lives. Having a television set in the home has become very
essential in today s society. We depend on it to entertain us with its sitcoms and to inform us about
current world issues. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another way television misleads its viewers is by the way that they present candidates for an
election of politicians. They spend all their time and money trying to put together a commercial
that only puts down the other candidate. How are voters supposed to know whom to vote for if
all they are presented with is negative ideas about each candidate? Television also tries to
persuade us to vote for a certain proposition. Voters are also lured into voting for or against a
proposition by listening to the music being played in the background of the commercial. An
example of this type of situation may be the campaign on proposition 5 dealing with the Indian
Casinos. They play sad, and convincing, music in the background of their commercial so the
viewers can soften their hearts and vote yes on their proposition. Television is powerful enough
to make our shopping easier. Actually, it is making us lazier. TV stations such as the Home
Shopping Network make shopping as easy as dialing some numbers on a touch tone phone.
People are also convinced to buy a certain product because a celebrity is presenting it. For example:
if supermodel Cindy Crawford presents make up, ladies will buy it and wear it because they believe
that it will make them look like her. As a television viewer myself, I believe that television has us
all trapped in a world where we believe everything that is being said. As

Robin Hood Creed Quotes
Robin Hood Essay There is a legend that contains an outlaw named Robin Hood, who is also
mainly known for his skill in archery. In the movie, The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), he
leads a group of people named the Merry Men, who are all outlaws. They fight to steal from the
rich and give the stolen money to the poor and helpless. As the Normans believe that the Merry Men
are all bandits, they are more like knights in the eyes of the Saxons. They follow their own code
that is similar to the Knightly Code. They act upon the creed they swore upon, remembering that
they must defend the weak, grant mercy to enemies, and deal honorably with opponents in battle.
One knightly code that the Merry Men present was defending the weak and helpless. When an
order was given to hang certain people by Prince John, the Merry Men went to each and every
public execution to save each person before they are hanged. The people that were to be hanged
are obviously weak and helpless, but the Merry Men could have cared less. They could have let
them die without bothering and risking their lives to save helpless people that are not important to
them. Another example was when Robin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example is when Robin appeared at the banquet in the beginning of the movie and feasts
upon the food. Robin had many chances to assassinate Sir Guy, the Sheriff, or Prince John, but he

coronation and a large fight between the Merry Men and Prince John s men starts. During the
fight, Robin had Sir Guy pinned between him and a wall while wielding a spear. Robin could
have killed Sir Guy at the spot, but Robin threw the spear into the upper left part of Sir Guy s
clothes to temporarily immobilize him to the wall instead. In conclusion, there were many times
that the Merry Men granted mercy to their enemies instead of ending their

What Are The Four Types Of Purchase Orders In Child Care...
Many child care centers design policies and procedures to assist with the requesting to buy
goods or services and purchasing of goods and services. The policies and procedures are
designed to maximize the efficiency and convenience of the purchasing process, consistent with
good business practices and in full compliance with all applicable federal regulations. Below I
have defined and listed four procedures that may be in place at centers for requisitioning and
purchasing equipment and supplies. Two of the procedures are related to requisitioning and the
other two procedures are for purchase orders. A requisition is a formal request to buy a good or
service. There are 2 types of Purchase Requisitions: 1.Special It these are for goods and services

Auto sourced Purchase Order these are purchase orders that do not require purchasing approval
prior to being sourced and dispatched to suppliers. Four ways to cut costs at your childcare
center: Staffing: Hiring the right people can make or break your business, and poor hiring
decisions will prove to be costly. Once good employees hired, make an extra effort to keep
employees happy so that you minimize the turnover rate for your business as much as possible.
Entertainment: Filling each day with fun activities while keeping your classrooms full of toys and
educational supplies comes at a cost. Actively hunting for toys on websites like Craigslist and local
Facebook Sell groups will help you to find unbeatable prices on all kinds of great toys. The same
method can be applied when looking for furniture, cupboards, etc. Buy smart and cut out any
unnecessary spending. Stay Organized: Being unorganized can cost your business money in many
different ways. Misplacing documents, losing files, and missing payments can increase your
expenses significantly. Late payments will result in interest charges and late fees. Lost files and
documents can result in lost time and the potential replacement

What Approach Is Likely To Produce The Happier Child
Musical Chairs If we want to live in a world of Epicureanism, we would give each child a prize
for just playing the game. In fact we fear the losing child would feel pain and the main teachings
of Epicurus is, The belief that happiness is freedom from pain . Granted both children will feel
happy at the time, considering the child that clearly won did not get any satisfaction of the win
because the outcome was both children received a prize. But the real question, by having this
type of believes are we teaching our children how the world really works? The answer is no.
Nonetheless the question was not about if the child knows how the world works, the question was

The Battle Of Good And Bad In Plato s Crito
The battle of good and bad has been a debated topic for thousands of years, a fact evident in Plato
s dialogue, Crito. To become aware of the pretenses for this argument, it is significant to
understand the meanings of the words good and bad. Good is a word referring to the virtue of an
individual, a term meaning something is desired or pleasurable, or it can denote the moral right of
a person or object. The term bad has negative connotations; it is everything good is not. According
to Merriam Webster, bad can even be described as decayed or unwanted, but particularly, it is
important to note that bad can be synonymous with the expression evil. Good is written many times
in the Crito, maybe inadvertently bringing emphasis to the importance of the... Show more content

Socrates was to remain in prison for the duration of the religious mission before he could be
executed. In this time, Crito is doing his best to convince Socrates to escape, even having all of
the details planned and ready by paying the guards and organizing a way out. It is also evident
that Socrates will not have another chance to escape and if he wants to live, he will take this
opportunity. However, Socrates refuses to go with Crito and his other loyal friends and family,
and provides his typical elusive reasoning as to why he cannot, even seemingly content with the
prospect of death. He seems to reason that he will not change his ideology and that he would rather
die, than change his opinion. He finds great importance in the belief that he will no longer be
Socrates if he is not an Athenian. Socrates believed Athens was his covenant, and thought he had a

The First Amendment Speaks On The Freedoms Of Religion
Hannah Bing
Judy Hatcher
WRIT 3037
17 October 2016
Free Art The First Amendment speaks on the freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly and
petition; so important, they found their place in the US Constitution. Even with these freedoms
meaning so much to the majority of America, somehow today we still encounter differences in
political and religious views that seem to provoke people to act violently against a piece of art or
even physically against the artist that created it such as in the recent case of artist Illma Gore.
Often the violent action of destroying a work of art is more offensive than the image itself. We
should allow artists free reign of subject matter as well as style and work together to prevent art
desecration and violence through education of the arts. Censorship is the result of the fear of art.
When the fear of art turns into iconoclasm or, rejection of a valued belief system, that fear becomes
lack of government funding, desecration, and physical violence.
Visual artists fell through the gaps and did not receive federal support for their work until the
creation of the NEA or National Endowment for the Arts in 1965. This federal program had little
funding but proved a growing interest in art and art viewing from the public. This demand for art
creates a demand for funds to support venues and museums so they can keep their doors open. A
problem with the NEA is that they provide government funding, which prevents them from being
biased about

A Successful Intervention Initiated By The Government For...
Help:
A successful intervention initiated by the Government for obesity is that food calories,
carbohydrates, fat, saturates, protein, sugar and salt are placed on all food packets. Customers can
see exactly what is in the food and how it relates to their daily amount. So, I would further this idea
to the environmental problem. On packages supermarkets can display the statistics for how much
greenhouse gases each meat product has produced and how many resources were needed to make it.
This intervention is aimed at creating awareness of everything that goes on in the meat industry. In
turn, people can see how much harm their meat is causing and cut down their meat to reduce their
impact on the environment, leading to reduced sales, demand of meat and a reduction on their
impact on the environment. This intervention can also initiate a need for meat companies to put
more effort into using alternative eco friendly methods to reduce their harmful impact on the planet.
With the amount of CO2 and resources shown on their products customers will be able to compare
the environmental impacts that different companies cause. With people s knowledge of diet and the
environment increased they will choose which brand products to buy by carefully considering their
environmental impact. This will lead companies into wanting to get their environmental impact
down to become more popular to the customer. As well as being an intervention for knowledge, this
should also affect

The name says it all, Cheesecake Factory. Who would not want to go somewhere where the main
product is cheesecake? When you think of a factory, you think of a large room filled with lots of

restaurant is set up to run just like a factory using classical approaches of organization. The
Cheesecake factoryis a very successful business, constantly growing. Everything about it is large,

General managers, who run all aspects of a restaurant, receive a new BMW their first day on the
job. Salaries for general managers can be in the six figure range, according to Wensing from
$150,000 to $200,000, by some accounts (Ruiz 2006). This sounds like the perfect place to work
but there is always room for improvement to make sure that the employees are able to keep an
open flow of communication not only with each other but with other franchises and corporate. This
way, if there are any concerns within a particular field that can t be settled by management alone,
they can be addressed by cooperate. After all, it was the vice president of performance and
development, Chuck Wensing that said, One of our biggest challenges is the notion of how to get
big, but remain small (Ruiz 2006).
My recommendation for this would be to hold quarterly and annual events that allow the
executives to mingle with the employees so that they may hear their thoughts and opinions in
person. It would allow for idea sharing between franchises and offer more training that can lead to
higher pay or recognition. This would also help to bolster employee morale and overall
performance.
Another thing the Cheesecake factory does that works well is create a simple managerial set up that
follows the principles of organizational structure. There is unity of command among the employees,
meaning that employees receive orders

Therefore the first survival factor for Salva was the thoughts of seeing his family again. The
second survival factor that made survival possible for Salva was Uncle Jewiir s advice. Not only
was his advice a survival factor, but he himself was a survival factor. While Salva was crossing
the desert in chapter 7 he found himself losing hope. But Uncle Jewiir didn t let that happen. He
made sure to stay by Salva s side when he needed somebody for comfort and he gave advice.
According to chapter 7 (page 41), it states that If it hadn t been Uncle, Salva might have gone
crazy with fear. Uncle spoke to him all morning in a steady, low voice. This shows us that Salva
was afraid of the lions and he needed someone to comfort him. This also shows that without Uncle
Jewiir Salva would probably be long gone. It also says in chapter 9 (page 53) that As if by magic,
Uncle was suddenly at his side. Salva Mawien Dut Ariik! he said, using Salva s full name, loud and
clear. Salva lifted his head, the sobs interrupted by surprise. Do you see that group of bushes? Uncle
said, pointing. You need to only walk as far as those bushes. Can you do that, Salva Mawien Dut
Ariik? This shows us that Uncle Jewiir s advice helped him a lot and what Uncle was trying to
imply to Salva was to take a step at a time instead of taking it all in one time. Not only did Uncle
Jewiir s advice help now, but years later too. He was

Professional Athletes Are Overpaid
Did you know that the highest type of doctor gets paid just over $500,000 and yet the average
Cubs player made over 6 million dollars in 2012? That huge gap between the income of a doctor
and a professional athlete shows that professional athletes are overpaid by a lot. The income of
a professional athlete should be lowered and the income of important jobs should be raised
higher than they are now. The way that professional athletes risk their health to potential injuries
may affect their salary, but they should only get paid a normal amount of money and get more
money when injured. Professional athletes are overpaid to just play sports, while our troops get
paid less than them. The income gap between professional athletes and important jobs such as
doctors, has increased drastically and will keep increasing. Instead of the athletes having a huge
income, the people that we need daily should have that money in order to keep them well paid.

With basic information on what this mental illness is, to understand Schizophrenia further,
research into personal encounters became apparent. After looking into the mind of Ian Chovil
who was a victim of the mental health disease and finding his accounts very eccentric it is clear
that this is something that could quite possibly affect the brains of the people that commit
serious crimes in regards to the Media. Ian says in his story a few things which connect this type
of mental health to violent obscure behaviour. He says he had delusions right from the start
which after reading his story states, progressed from visions of famous persons trying to force
him to commit suicide right to the later stages of his schizophrenia where he says he got a lot of
messages from favourite Rock and Rolla songs, movies, cartoons and library books. Ian doesn t
say these forms of media forced him to murder innocent people but it does provide evidence that he
received messages. These messages in the mind of another schizophrenic could lead to serious acts
of violence which leads onto the next part of his story where he mentions how his delusions
changed as aliens instructed him on the real nature of reality then three things happened as contact
with reality became very tenuous, he got into trouble with the law, became an alcoholic and lost

First Language Acquisition And The Doubt Towards...
Due to the development in first language acquisition and the doubt towards contrastive analysis
which has deemed that all errors made by language learners are caused by the interference from the
mother tongue, error analysis, a response to and an alternative of contrastive analysis and an
approach influenced by behaviourism was given birth to and become increasingly popular among
researchers and teachers who began paying more attention on and shifting the interest in the errors
made by second languagelearners in the 1960s and 1970s (Mitchell, Myles and Marsden, 2013).
Central to the notion of erroranalysis is that it is a process where learners errors are collected and
analysed in order to get some implication from the results (Brown, 1987, p. 17; Corder, 1967;
Khansir, 2012) and the purpose of error analysis according to Corder (1974, p. 170) is to find what
the learner know and does not know and to ultimately enable the teacher to supply him not just with
the information that his hypothesis is wrong, importantly, with the right sort of information or data
for him to form a more adequate concept of rule in the target language . Moreover, Gass and
Selinker (2008) also agree that second language learners errors can provide information about their
knowledge of the system.
To know how error analysis works, firstly it should know what an error is and its possible sources.
When it comes to the definition of errors, many researchers have given their own ideas. Corder

Similarities Between Gibson And Alfred Bester
Alfred Bester and William Gibson are both prominent authors in the science fiction genre. Elements
such as science and technology advancements as seen through the space lens, megacorporations
verses a dystopian gritty underworld, and the anti hero protagonist in Alfred Bester The Stars My
Destination are echoed and further refined in William Gibson s novelNeuromancer solidifying the
cyberpunk subgenre. Women also have more respect and prevalence in Gibson s later book.
Both novels portray the rise of a rough outsider male protagonist against forces much larger than
him as made possible through the novel s dark and corrupt world. Gully Foyle in The Stars My

more empathetic behaviors throughout the book. He does become at peace with his past,
specifically regarding Linda. When he leaves her the final time he gives her his jacket, I don t

Editing And Compression In Memento, By Christopher Nolan
A person s identity relies heavily on one s memories. How can one know who they are, if they
cannot remember who they were and what they experienced to get to the present? In Memento,
director Christopher Nolan highlights the importance of memory in forming one s identity. The
movie follows a man named Leonard who is determined to track down and kill the man who raped
and murdered his wife. Unfortunately, Leonard suffers from anterograde amnesia, meaning he can
remember everything leading up to the incident, but he is incapable of forming memories of
anything which occurred after his wife s death. Throughout his investigation, Leonard compensates

finds himself out of sync with the rest of the world as his identity remains stuck in the past. In
Memento, Nolan uses editing and mise en scene to reinforce the idea that a person s identity relies
heavily upon their memories.
One of the most outstanding film techniques in Memento is its use of editing. The scenes of the
movie are sequenced in reverse chronological order, with the film beginning at the storyline s end
and ending at its beginning. In doing this, Nolan is able to mimic an experience for the viewer
which is similar to Leonard s anterograde amnesia. Without previous context for each scene, the

Biography of Loretta Lux
Loretta Lux grew up in Soviet occupied East Germany. She was raised inside the Berlin Wall
that came down when she was 20 years old. A year after the wall came down in 1990 Loretta
stared studying paintings and art which she perused until 1996. Three years on and she had started
studying photography. In 2004 she had her first solo show in America at the Yossi Milo Gallery,
New York. In 2005, Loretta received the Infinity Award for Art from the International Center of
Photography. Her work has since been exhibited extensively abroad, including solo exhibitions in
2006 at the Fotomuseum Den Haag, The Netherlands, and the Sixth Moscow Photo biennale.
Loretta s main influences in her art are by painters such as Agnolo Bronzino, Diego VelГЎzquez,
and Phillip Otto Runge. In Loretta s photographs she uses a very soft pastel colour pallet, this
gives to us a calm or soothing feel. Most of her photographs are of young children, she says that
she likes working with children because they are young, innocent and easier to work with.
Loretta makes the children pull a serious face, this makes them look like they have a secret or
have been up to mischief. She uses her own clothes from when she was a child and because
vintage clothing is coming back this gives the photo a feeling of timelessness. Loretta s
photographs tend to be at eye level making the child look superior. She also strips down the
background making the main focus on the child. Loretta s artworks have been shown in numerous

Requirements for lease reporting under GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards

Lease reporting regulations are contained in the GAAP FAS 13 and IFRS, IAS 17. The primary

the other pump is standby or armed condition only. The standby pump will work only if the main

It could be as simple as building clinics in cities that have a high percentage of mentally ill

support groups also federally funded for people with similar illnesses to share their experiences
and what had worked for them whether it be therapy or yoga or anything else. These services
offered in some cities could allow people to stay close to home and not take up beds in
emergency rooms, leaving those beds for the people they are really meant for. It could also
reduce the amount of people on the waiting list to get into the state mental facilities, by allowing
those with minor mental issues to live in their own homes with help from the new clinics in their
area. The amount of federal money going to the Department of State Health Services would need
to increase, but it would certainly be money well spent. Instead of spending money to update the
already beautiful Capitol building or paying for legislators to go on lavish trips, I believe the state
government should be spending money on the mental health of its growing population. Instead of
budget cuts, there needs to be money added to the budget for these types of clinics. The amount of

Red Flour Beetles Lab
INTRODUCTION In this lab, the class discovered the effects of different substrates and stimuli
on red flour beetles. Red flour beetles eat flour and other grains and the female beetle deposits her
eggs on flour, cereal, dry pet food, or other similar products. The larvae hatch and then begin to eat
the material around them. In the article Patch exploitation by Tribolium castaneum: Movement
patterns, distribution, and oviposition , it says that most of the activity from red flour beetles is
spent in food sources (Campbell and Hagstrum). There are many factors that affect the red flour
beetles ability to survive or reproduce, like temperature, food source, stress, and genetics (Biology
159). In Humidity Reactions of Tribolium Castaneum (Herbst) , it states that red flour beetles are
attracted to different substrates due to their nutritional levels and moisture level of the substrate

Hip Hop Music Mirrors All Urban Society
Hip Hop Music Mirrors All Urban Society
From 1950 to the late 1980 s, social conflicts all over the world encouraged the success of Hip
Hop due its ability to mirror the negative and positive aspects of society, and in doing this, the
concept of Hip Hop s real lyrics were very easily translated and adopted overseas. To understand
Hip Hop s ability to migrate around the world, it must be understood what Hip Hop was created
out of. First, American Urban society, from the Civil Rights Era until now has matured, creating
Hip Hop s lyrics in both its negative recap of the destruction of South Bronx and the new AIDS
epidemic and positive reenactment of the solution brought by the Civil Rights Era and the urban

Americans are increasing their financial incomes and attending universities at a higher percentage

reported percentage of HIV/AIDS cases (Fact Sheet: HIV/AIDS among African Americans) and
collectively are more poor than any other race in US (2006 Census Poverty and Income Data).
Reacting to this major change in urban society where Hip Hop was created, the lyrical content
changed to reflect that. As forty nine percent of the African American Community suffer from HIV
/AIDS (Fact Sheet: HIV/AIDS among African Americans) in addition to having the highest
poverty percentage among any race, the artist Common mentions the effect of AIDS and the
poverty issue plaguing African American society in his song Misunderstood released this past
summer. Evidently the lyrical content of Hip Hop directly mirrors urban American society. On an

By spreading expenses over the whole year there is a more equal cash outflow each month rather
than one huge outflow during one month. An example of this is the offer from insurance
companies to be able to pay insurance premiums monthly instead of annually because of the
excessively high costs. Another strategy commonly used is Discounts for the early payments ,
This is where a business may offer discounts to account customers for the early payment of their
accounts to speed up cash inflow. This discount may be a little as 2 5%, but shows effective in
terms of cash inflow as it gives incentive for the customers, Giving both the customer and
business a gain in the financial situation. Other incentives for early payment could include small
gifts and discounts on future orders that the customers may have. The business then may shorten
the credit terms it allows for account customers. Thus Reducing the number of days that a
customer can take to pay its invoice, this will speed up cash inflow into the business as it
recieves cash from its sales much sooner. Factoring, a short term source of borrowing for a

For 700 years, the Indus civilization provided its individuals with wealth, abundance and its own

emerged, it disappeared and declined.
Around 1900 BC, signs began to emerge of mounting problems. People started to leave the cities
and those who remained suffered from malnutrition. By around 1800 BC, most of the cities were
uninhabited. In the centuries to come and again, in sharp contrast to its contemporaries,

A tectonic event may have diverted the system s sources toward the Ganges Plain, though there is
some uncertainty about the date of this event. The region in which the river s waters formerly
arose is acknowledged to be geologically active, and there is evidence of major tectonic events at
the time the Indus civilization collapsed. The river s very existence was unknown until the late
20th century, when geologists used satellite photographs to trace its former course through the
Indus Valley. If the Ghaggar Hakra river system dried up when the Indus civilization was at its
height, the consequences would have been devastating. The refugees would have flooded the other
cities. The critical mass needed for economic integration would have collapsed. Although this
particular factor is speculative, and not generally accepted, the decline of the Indus Valley
Civilization, as with any other civilization, will have been due to a combination of a variety of
catastrophic reasons.
In the declining years, Indus civilization people tried to hang on to their old way of life, but in the

My Last Duchess Essay
My last Duchess
Browning presents the duke as an arrogant, jealous character with an ostentatious disposition .In
the dramatic monologue of the Duke it would seem he over analyses his duchesses interactions in
the poem, particularly that of the male gender. This institutes that the Duke is a jealous man and
also that he regards the duchess as more of a possession than a person. This is also portrayed
through the possessive pronouns used throughout the poem such us my and mine. Another fact
that expresses his officious nature would be that as his wife didn t act like his possession he had
her killed and turned into something he could control. This is shown in the fact he had her portrait
put behind a curtain which only he was allowed to open this is symbolism for being able to hide

The Use Of Sexual Gratification On College Campuses
Hookups are a type of brief sexual relationship that typically occur on only one occasion between
two people who are usually strangers or have briefly become acquainted (Paul, McManus Hayes,
2000). Hooking up may be considered to be the contemporary term for the older phrase one night
stand which also implies a no strings attached interlude. In this sort of association, sexual
gratification can be the primary goal, with companionship being a distant consideration. This
variety of alliance can certainly involve both heterosexual and homosexual couples and can be
facilitated through friends or like minded individuals. According to one study, this casual and non
committal sexual encounter based form of interaction now finds itself as the predominating
heterosexual relationship on college campuses (Stinson, 2010). It may be easy to see why this is
the case as the lifestyles of students are busy ones and often little time is available to devote to
what is necessary to maintain a more serious involvement. Friends with Benefits Friends with
benefits relationships are generally considered to be a relationship that occurs between friends of
the opposite sex who participate in sexual practices but view their bond as being non romantic
(Hughes, Morrison, Asada, 2007). However, there is no reason to believe that this type of strictly
platonic relationship cannot have its equivalent parallel with members of the same sex. There are
advantages to this type of arrangement that are

The Universal Time Lapse Capsule
The Universal Time Lapse Capsule, or TLC, is a hand held device shaped like a huge pill with a
dial in the middle for you to decide which time period you would like to travel to. It is still a very
new device that can malfunction at any given time. The Victorian Age is a time period that anyone
from the modern timeperiod would boldly stand out in. People talk, dress, socialize, and entertain
themselves in very different manners. This guide was created to help you survive through this time
era if something were to ever go wrong with your TLC.
Where to fall in Society:
Social classism was a huge deal during the Victorian Age. Everyone only mingled and married
within their class. There are some cases where people married slightly higher or slightly lower,
but those cases were rare. As time traveler that no one has ever heard of, you will best fit in the
working class. You can better claim being poor from another town over than being rich because the
rich people came in rarities, therefore they were all acquainted with each other.
Men:
You will best fall under the working class category in the Victorian hierarchy, which is very close
to the bottom of the social pyramid. Life will be very hard and seem unbearable, but you are
strong enough to pull through it. However, you may feel disrespected in certain situations, but you
must remember your place. It is imperative that you do not step out of line with the higher
classmen. These men have the power to throw you in jail if you

In this paper, with the help of the advanced automation and information technologies, a new
hydraulic regulation method was proposed to achieve on site hydraulic balance for the district
heating systems with distributed variable speed pumps configuration. The proposed method was
comprised of a new hydraulic model, which was developed to adapt the distributed variable speed
pumps configuration, and a calibration model with genetic algorithm. By carrying out the
proposed method step by step, the flow rates of all distributed pumps can be progressively adjusted
to their designated values. A hypothetic district heating system with 2 heat sources and 10
substations was taken as a case study to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method. Two
scenarios were investigated respectively. In Scenario I, the flow rate of one substation varied
according to its heat demand and the flow rates of other substations maintained their original
values. And in Scenario II, the flow rates of all substations varied synchronously with the same
relative rate. The results of the both scenarios indicated that all pumps could be properly adjusted to
their designated flow rates by the proposed method with a high frequency adjustment resolution as

Societal Views of Women in the Victorian Era in Henrik...
Societal Views of Women in the Victorian Era in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House
A Doll s House, by Henrik Ibsen, creates a peephole into the lives of a family in the Victorian
Era. The play portrays a female viewpoint in a male dominated society. The values of the society
are described using the actions of a woman, Nora, who rebels against the injustices inflicted upon
her gender. Women s equality with men was not recognized by society in the late 1800 s. Rather, a
woman was considered a doll, a child, and a servant. Nora s alienation reveals society s
assumptions and values about gender.
A woman was considered by society to be a doll because she was expected to be subordinate to her
husband s whims. Referring to a ball that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She alludes to a child s character when she says, everything I think of seems so silly and
insignificant (26). Torvald replies with a condescending statement: Does my little Nora
acknowledge that at last? (26). Torvald expects only childish talk from her. He even tells her she
is little, like a child, and although he expects nothing more than child s talk from her, he does
expect to be obeyed.
Nora plays the part of a slave in her subservience to her husband, for she is supposed to abide by
his rules and be dependent on him. She is not supposed to think for herself and repeatedly told
so by those around her. When speaking about Nora in her presence, Torvald says, She is so
terribly self willed (55). Nora has a conversation with Mrs. Linde, who also tells her, Don t be
self willed (57). Torvald tells her, I will advise you and direct you (64). Nora is expected to be a
dependent slave who follows her husband s advice and directions. Women were also legally
dependent upon men. The society s laws of that time even required the male to cosign everything
that a woman had to sign. Nora s naivete in forging her father s signature and trying to pay off the
loan further emphasizes Victorian society s assumptions about women s inability to deal with a
man s world.
These assumptions about women caused their gender value to be vastly

The Pros And Cons Of Spaying And Neutering
Spaying and Neutering
Spaying and neutering a cat or dog is an important and responsible thing to do. Spaying or
neutering refers to a surgical procedure to render a dog or cat unable to produce litters of puppies
or kittens ( What is Spay/Neuter? ) . Spaying and neutering are surgeries performed by a
veterinarian removing the reproductive organs. Spay and neuters are the most commonly
performed animal surgeries. There are many advantages to spaying or neutering an animal. There
are also common misconceptions of these surgeries.
Spaying a pet is the surgical removal of the reproductive organs. In female, an ovariohysterectomy,
or spay, is the removal of the uterus, uterine tubes, and ovaries ( Spaying Your Cator Dog ).
Spaying is considered a routine abdominal surgery. The animal will be placed under general
anesthesia, and recovery is usually prompt. Spayed females will no longer have estrus cycles and
will no longer be able to reproduce.
Neutering refers to the removal of both testicles from the scrotum through a small incision (
What is Spay/Neuter? ). Neutering is also known as castration. A neutered male cat or dog is no
longer capable of reproducing. Animals tend to recover quicker from a neuter rather than a spay
because it is less invasive (Tobiassen Crosby 1). Some male cats or dogs may be

The Importance Of Recess In Schools
Across America school districts continue negotiating as to whether or not recess is an essential
part of a child s school day. Recently there has been pressure to increase test scores in the United
States. Consequently, recess is being cut or reduced in order to provide children with additional
instructional time, but are breaks necessary for active learning? Recess is also a liability issue
for schools since the environment is more relaxed and more exposed to the outside world. Ever
since we can remember recess has been a vital part of the school day, but should that change? Will
cutting recess improve children s test scores?
This all started approximately five to ten years ago when nearly half of the schools in the United
States began to lessen recess time or even cut it entirely (Dills 890). Some schools are not even
building playgrounds anymore (Schachter 37). This occurred because of the push to increase test
scores and the incentives that go along with it. The higher the test scores, the more funding
schools receive. Therefore, schools are making sacrifices and doing the best that they can in order
to receive as much funding possible. A school cannot be run properly without sufficient support so
cutting recess if it in fact improves test scores is justifiable. As Anthony Pellegrini wrote in his
book, to adults recess is just playtime and has no actual value, but for kid s recess is important
(181). This remains the reason numerous districts are questioning

Animal Rights: The Perpetual Disputes Over Animal Sterilization Human jurisdiction over animals
has been a controversial idea since the most ancient times (Clemmitt). Both species have an
interdependent relationship with each other, and in more recent years, tensions have grown about
how to foster the relationship. In the twenty first century, animal overpopulation an excess of cats
and dogs (Frank 114) has risen to a global issue, and areas of the world such as Shanghai, China are
especially affected (Shanghai). Humans exercise their authority over animals by sterilizing them,
trapping them, and keeping them in shelters, all in an effort to combat animal overpopulation.

Peter Singer, the author of Animal Liberation, states that human to human equality should be
extended to animals because humans and animals both possess the same perception of pain.
Singer says, Nearly all the external signs that lead us to infer pain in other humans can be seen in
other species, especially the species most closely related to us the species of mammals and birds
(Singer 11). Singer states his personal view on animal rights. Many people hold similar views, and
these people believe that the issue of animal overpopulation should be addressed by means that
most benefit animals. This type of view clashes with views that humans needs must come first.
Even among thosewithin this group of people who prioritize animals, there are disputes about how
to most ethically treat animals. Some oppose animal sterilization, while others believe it is a
completely humane practice, again, therefore yielding no conclusive solution to the

Paul Cazanne
Paul CГ©zanne s Mount Sainte Victoire Paul CГ©zanne is often called the first modernist painter,
and in his essay, CГ©zanne and the Unity of Modern Art Clement Greenberg, identifies CГ©zanne
as the most abundant generator of ideas and the most enduring in newness (Greenberg,83). This,
coming from one of the most influential art critics of the twentieth century, is not to be taken
lightly. CГ©zanne was extremely influential to the modernist painters of the early twentieth,
including Pablo Picasso and George Braque in their development of Cubism(Orfila,3). At the
beginning of his career, CГ©zanne painted in the impressionist style that was common for the avant
guard painters of the time, but he was disinterested in capturing the transitory... Show more content

He created a new way of observing nature. A type of analysis wherein he deconstructs what he sees
and then reconstructs it on the canvas, giving it a new structure. The impact of CГ©zanne s work
is seen throughout modern art for many years after his death. In 1907, the year after his death,
there was a retrospective of CГ©zanne s life, which is said to have been how the majority of the
avant garde was won over by his work (Ofila,3). Mount Sainte Victoire , being painted in the final
years of his life, is a great summation of CГ©zanne s technique and artistic style. It is therefore, a
good representation of his brand of modernism. All the techniques that CГ©zanne developed over
the course of his life were employed in this painting, which makes it, though not a very famous one,

Public Administration And The Public Sector
Old Public Administration was created to answer the questions to many unanswered problems.
President Woodrow Wilson said it was harder to run a constitution than to frame it because of the
difficult administrative tasks had to deal with. Sure enough, he was not the only person who felt
that way. President Wilson believed that in order to run an effective government, ideas from the
private sector should be incorporated into the public sector. He even went as far as to give input on
how the government would be able to implement ideas from the private sector to the public sector.
And that is to limit what hierarchical organization can do. Wilson believed that those in power
would not have control of creating the policy, but they will have a handle on how the policy is
implemented. Two themes stood out around the topic of Public Administrationthe distinction
between policy and administration, and the accountability of elected individuals who are a part of
an organization. The second theme was around the use of structures and strategies to ensure that
managementwork efficiency.
Many had much to say when it came Wilson s statement that Policy and Administration should be
separate entities. A few people argued that policy and administration could not be separated because
policy and administration depend on one another to work effectively. Frederick Taylor, a theorist
believed that in order to enforce efficiency within an organization, a scientific management

Significance Of Fear In Beast Of The Southern Wild
Fear in Beast of The Southern Wild
Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely
to cause pain, or a threat. Fear is applied through every film which helps with the conflict. Director

create a visual scary and mythos of the beast so called aurochs as in Hushpuppy fear.
Narrative plays a big role in Beast of the Southern Wild. We view the story through a six year old

I Have A New Hobby And Interest After The Discussion With...
I have found a new hobby and interest after the discussion with my mother. Every day, since she
delivered me some resources, I spent hours reading the books and surfing around the internet,
doing my own research to ascertain the real person inside me. Many of those readings excite me so
much, need to be brought up here, the clear explanations helped me a lot to better understand every
bit much as the motivation that led me to a new form of thinking. I became certain about the man
under my skin, more than ever before. Since the earliest stage of my transition, my childhood, I was
always confused and stressed thinking about the matters, needless to say, the religious things add up
the amount of the chaos. I am contented for the new sighting... Show more content on

Every now and then, I stole time to discuss those matters to a further analysis with my mother, in
order to be open to her, so that she could see my view, my thoughts, feelings and the real me.
Mum, to be a good son of yours is my biggest dream, I said to her when I dropped by at her office,
one afternoon after school. She smiled, just smile without uttering any word.
And to have a wonderful woman I call wife would complete me to the greatest level. Mum, I
really wanna marry Sophia, but how can I accomplish my mission when I am still trapped in this
frame? Everything feels not right, mum. You know how it s like, you observed me since the day
you brought me to join this world. I feel it so unfair... I need a woman in my life, because I am a
man and because of that reason, I don t have any feelings towards any other man. Mum, I hate to
be labelled as lesbian or butch, I want to be a real man...
There I stopped, looking deep into my mother s expression, waiting for a reconciliation. That
moment was the moment I was very sure of everything, as though I have already made the biggest
decision in my life and I have no uncertainty about it, not to the tiniest particle.
Andrey, it is too early to think about marriage, however, I completely understand how you feel.

Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman
An Analysis of Tragic Heroism of Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
This literary study will define the tragic heroism of Biff Loman in Arthur Miller s play The Death
of a Salesman. Biff is initially a victim of Willy s continual harassment to make more money and
find a better career. In this family unit, Biff must endure the unrealistic and fantasy based elusions
of his father in his fanatical pursuit of the American Dream. However, Biff soon learns of Willy s
extra marital betrayal to his mother, which allows him to experience an epiphany against the self
deception of his father s abusive fantasy world. Biffs tragic role in this family is found in the
ability to accept reality and overcome the victim role imposed on him by his father. This tragic
aspect of Biffs heroism defines a single voice of reason in a self deceiving family unit, which
defines his liberation from his father s tyrannical behavior. In essence, Biffs tragic heroism will be
examined by analyzing the journey towards self realization in Arthur Miller s The Death of a
Salesman. The beginning of Miller s play presents Willy Loman, a failed salesman that is
continually putting pressure on his children to get better jobs and make more money. Willy s
pursuit of the American Dream exploits Biff and Happy as a type of retirement plan in this
materialistic mindset: You ll retire me for life on seventy goddamn dollars a week? (Miller 28). In
this way, Willy views Biff as being weaker than

Analysis Of Andrew Jackson s The White House Essay
Andrew Jackson once said, Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop
thinking and go in. Andrew Jackson was an individual who was filled with integrity, grit,
determination, and other values that encompass a good leader. The chosen book about this man is
titled American Lion: Andrew Jacksonin the White House. The creator of this Pulitzer Prize
winning novel would be Jon Meacham. The Chattanooga born author graduated at The
University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee as the salutatorian, and acquiring a degree
summa cum laude in English Literature. He might as well become a history teacher with his
knowledge on various historical concepts and people. With notorious books ranging from
Making of a Nation to Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power. Andrew Jackson is regarded as one
of the greatest of the founding fathers; with a scarred uprising as a child, and the actions he took
for this country, it s easy to see why some historians might think this. This president always
seemed like an interesting figure to learn more about. Therefore, with a 353 page long book
solely about him, it was deemed as the best choice. The book is composed of 34 chapters. Each
following a timeline of his beginnings, accomplishments, and final days. In order to provide a brief
synopsis/summary, it is important to provide information pertaining to every chapter, some
elaborated on more than others. The first chapter is titled Andy Will Fight His Way into the World,

Don Quixote Analysis
The tale of Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes is a chivalric tale that waltzes around the concept
of reality versus fantasy. This is prominently shown through the character, Don Quixote. Quixote
struggles with his own concepts of reality throughout the book as he believes himself to be a
chivalric knight when in reality, he is far from it. Don Quixoteidealized the books he read, branded
his own version of his reality, and put it into action. Don Quixote so loved the books he read, he
tried to become one. As Cervantes writes about Don Quixote s love for his fictional stories, it
becomes noticeable that a change is starting to appear in Quixote: (QUOTE)
lack of sleep and the excess of reading...everything he read in his books took possession of his
imagination: enchantments, fights, battles, challenges, wounds, sweet nothings, love affairs,
storms, and impossible absurdities
Don Quixote s imagination took over the man that Quixote once was, shapeshifting him into this
being of daydream. This is the kickoff into the absurdities that Don Quixote performs as these
books have begun to take over his mindset through obession. Quixote takes simple parts of his life
and forces this adamant change of reality onto them some with or without knowing of this
participation For example, his horse became a valiant steed, a simple peasant girl (Dulcinea) into a
sweet damsel, spare parts into shining armor, and his neighbor Sancho into a faithful squire. As the
normal situation

McDonalds Corporation is the organization I selected with compensation or benefit challenges.
Since McDonalds opened their doors in 1955 people have been coming not only to enjoy a good
meal, but they have been employed by the biggest food chain in the world. By 1958, McDonald s
had sold its 100 millionth hamburger. Ray Kroc wanted to build a restaurant system that would be
famous for providing food of consistently high quality and uniform methods of preparation. He
wanted to serve burgers, buns, fries, and beverages that tasted the same in Alaska as they did in
Alabama. (about.McDonalds.com) To achieve this, Ray Kroc chose a unique path: persuading
both franchisees and suppliers to buy into his vision, working not for McDonald s but for
themselves, together with McDonald s. He promoted the slogan, In business for yourself, but not
by yourself. His philosophy was based on the simple principle of a 3 legged stool: one leg was
McDonald s franchisees; the second, McDonald s suppliers; and the third, McDonald s employees.
The stool was only as strong as the three legs that formed its foundation. McDonald s benefits and
compensation program is designed to attract, retain and engage talented people who will deliver
strong performance and help McDonald s achieve their business goals and objectives. The benefits
and compensation include Medical, Dental, Profit Sharing, Vacation, Sabbatical

Procrastination is Synonymous with Hesitation
Procrastination as Hesitation: A Synonymous Definition Procrastination is synonymous with
hesitation, as this is a process by which people hesitate to complete a task rather than finishing it
quickly. Some might wait until the last minute before a deadline, others may start a project and
have trouble continuing where they have left off, and others may even procrastinate to the point
of never completing a task in time. While not completing a task is not as definitive as
procrastination as hesitation since procrastinators are generally known for doing their work.
Procrastination is somewhat healthy while being unable or unwilling to complete needed jobs is
inherently unhealthy. One might also say that procrastination in necessary to make informed
decisions, to prepare for a speech or presentation that has to be delivered, or even to study for a
test. The longer one waits, the more time one has to gather additional information informally and
to come into the correct mindset to do good work. To utilize the examples above one may wait to
commit to a date or social gathering due to the possibility of other tasks that may need to be
prioritized. As far as giving a presentation or speech, one must not only know the content, he or she
must also be physiologically prepared to face an audience and this can be quite stressful. This might
mean gathering the materials for the presentation more informally yet not completing the speech
preparation until right before it is given, so

The Lincoln Electric Culture Analysis
Lincoln Electric Culture Analysis
Lincoln Electric is a world renowned manufacturer of welding equipment. The company has
experienced success year over year since the early 1900s. Their success can be attributed to the
unorthodox way in which the company is led and managed.
Early in the company s life an advisory board was created which gave employees a voice that could
be heard by upper management. Soon after the creation of the advisory board, working hours were
reduced and additional benefits were given to employees that included life insurance policies and
continued educational opportunities.
In 1934 the famous Lincoln bonus plan was initiated which would give employees of the company
a yearly bonus as a percentage of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That both employees and management want to be a part of something great, a part of a team that
is working for the same goal of making their company successful. Lincoln believed that a worker is
worthy of what they earn. If they work hard, they should be paid commensurate with that effort.
When looking at the way in which the Lincoln Company is organized and managed, the first thing
you might notice is that their culture is very people oriented. Fairness is very important as well as
respect for employees and who they are as human beings. People oriented companies tend to have
employees that stay with their companies longer than companies with differing cultures. I believe
that due to this culture of valuing employees worker turnover at Lincoln is not an issue.
The organizational structure of Lincoln is informal and there is no organizational chart. Because
employees are treated with such value they have an intrinsic drive to work hard and make their
company successful. This also allows there to be very need for supervision. When employees are
treated with respect and are compensated for their work, the response is to self supervise.
This culture is very different from what you will find in companies today. Today, many leaders and
managers truly believe that employees must be controlled and managed harshly in order to get
results. There is a carrot and stick mentality that is used today to motivate employees. It s either
threaten the employees

  • 2. Call Of The Wild Research Paper The great author Stephen King once said, As a nation, we ve been through too many fights to preserve our rights of free thought to let them go just because some prude with a highlighter doesn t approve of them. As the opposition might say, material such as The Call of the Wild are too mature for 8th grade students. But, for many reasons I believe such material is very fitting for an 8th grade curriculum. First, it is a wonderful example of American literature with many great morals. Secondly, it explores many historical topics about America s history. Lastly, banning one book will only lead to the banning of other books. The first topic I will discuss is how The Call of the Wild is a wonderful piece of American Literature. The Call ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book is set in the time period of the Klondike Gold Rush which started about 1896. Many people were desperate to strike it rich, for there was a depression in the lower 48 at the time. In the book we are shown Buck being taken to the Yukon to be a sled dog. As it says in the plot summary, ...the mail carrier sells them to a group of American gold hunters Hal, Charles, and Mercedes. This shows how Buck was thrown around between owners which was common, because the demand for sled dogs was very high. All of these examples are historically accurate and can teach a student a lot about life during the Klondike Gold Rush. On the other hand, the opposing claim may say, history is taught in a History class and is not taught in English class. In my opinion, history is what makes literature come alive. It challenges the reader to learn more about the time period and how it relates to the story. Along with that, many famous books such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer are all directly related to a specific time in history. In all, the historical setting of The Call of the Wild makes it a fine novella to use in any 8th grade curriculum. Lastly, I will look at how if one book gets banned it may lead to many other books being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... sider BACKGROUND Efficient market theory examines how accurately stock prices signal resource allocation alloc and fully reflect all available information. Fama (1970) introduced the efficient market hypothesis stating there are three forms of efficiency: weak, semi strong, and strong. A market semi strong, that incorporates all historical information is said to be weak form efficient, while one that responds to all publicly available informatio is semi strong efficient. In a semiinformation strong efficient market, prices instantly change to reflect publicly available information. A strong form market, strong responds to all information, both public and private. The hypothesis claims that achieving above average returns on a risk adjusted basis is impossible (Fama 1970). (Fama, The lowest level of market efficiency, weak form, states that the market only reacts to historical information. This means that no one can earn above normal returns based on published historical information; however, the market does not quickly react to new public or private information. It may be possible then, in a weak form efficient market, to obtain abnormal returns form using either new publicly available or private insider information (Fama 1970). • 4. The Impact of Television on American Society Essay The Impact of Television on American Society What role does television play in society? For decades we have seen many parts of our world rapidly going through changes in technology. Today s society has been transformed by means of communication and the available information through mass media. Most Americans rely on television for news, sports, and entertainment. Television is just one of the many examples of how technology has changed our lives. Since the invention of the television in the early 1900 s, it has played a very important role in our lives. Having a television set in the home has become very essential in today s society. We depend on it to entertain us with its sitcoms and to inform us about current world issues. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another way television misleads its viewers is by the way that they present candidates for an election of politicians. They spend all their time and money trying to put together a commercial that only puts down the other candidate. How are voters supposed to know whom to vote for if all they are presented with is negative ideas about each candidate? Television also tries to persuade us to vote for a certain proposition. Voters are also lured into voting for or against a proposition by listening to the music being played in the background of the commercial. An example of this type of situation may be the campaign on proposition 5 dealing with the Indian Casinos. They play sad, and convincing, music in the background of their commercial so the viewers can soften their hearts and vote yes on their proposition. Television is powerful enough to make our shopping easier. Actually, it is making us lazier. TV stations such as the Home Shopping Network make shopping as easy as dialing some numbers on a touch tone phone. People are also convinced to buy a certain product because a celebrity is presenting it. For example: if supermodel Cindy Crawford presents make up, ladies will buy it and wear it because they believe that it will make them look like her. As a television viewer myself, I believe that television has us all trapped in a world where we believe everything that is being said. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Robin Hood Creed Quotes Robin Hood Essay There is a legend that contains an outlaw named Robin Hood, who is also mainly known for his skill in archery. In the movie, The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), he leads a group of people named the Merry Men, who are all outlaws. They fight to steal from the rich and give the stolen money to the poor and helpless. As the Normans believe that the Merry Men are all bandits, they are more like knights in the eyes of the Saxons. They follow their own code that is similar to the Knightly Code. They act upon the creed they swore upon, remembering that they must defend the weak, grant mercy to enemies, and deal honorably with opponents in battle. One knightly code that the Merry Men present was defending the weak and helpless. When an order was given to hang certain people by Prince John, the Merry Men went to each and every public execution to save each person before they are hanged. The people that were to be hanged are obviously weak and helpless, but the Merry Men could have cared less. They could have let them die without bothering and risking their lives to save helpless people that are not important to them. Another example was when Robin... During the fight, Robin had Sir Guy pinned between him and a wall while wielding a spear. In fact we fear the losing child would feel pain and the main teachings of Epicurus is, The belief that happiness is freedom from pain . Granted both children will feel happy at the time, considering the child that clearly won did not get any satisfaction of the win because the outcome was both children received a prize. But the real question, by having this type of believes are we teaching our children how the world really works? The answer is no. • 8. The Battle Of Good And Bad In Plato s Crito The battle of good and bad has been a debated topic for thousands of years, a fact evident in Plato s dialogue, Crito. To become aware of the pretenses for this argument, it is significant to understand the meanings of the words good and bad. Good is a word referring to the virtue of an individual, a term meaning something is desired or pleasurable, or it can denote the moral right of a person or object. The term bad has negative connotations; it is everything good is not. According to Merriam Webster, bad can even be described as decayed or unwanted, but particularly, it is important to note that bad can be synonymous with the expression evil. Socrates was to remain in prison for the duration of the religious mission before he could be executed. In this time, Crito is doing his best to convince Socrates to escape, even having all of the details planned and ready by paying the guards and organizing a way out. It is also evident that Socrates will not have another chance to escape and if he wants to live, he will take this opportunity. However, Socrates refuses to go with Crito and his other loyal friends and family, and provides his typical elusive reasoning as to why he cannot, even seemingly content with the prospect of death. He seems to reason that he will not change his ideology and that he would rather die, than change his opinion. He finds great importance in the belief that he will no longer be Socrates if he is not an Athenian. Socrates believed Athens was his covenant, and thought he had a very intimate relationship with his home. If he was to leave Athens, Socrates believed he could no longer be ... • 9. The First Amendment Speaks On The Freedoms Of Religion Hannah Bing Judy Hatcher WRIT 3037 17 October 2016 Free Art The First Amendment speaks on the freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition; so important, they found their place in the US Constitution. Even with these freedoms meaning so much to the majority of America, somehow today we still encounter differences in political and religious views that seem to provoke people to act violently against a piece of art or even physically against the artist that created it such as in the recent case of artist Illma Gore. Often the violent action of destroying a work of art is more offensive than the image itself. We should allow artists free reign of subject matter as well as style and work together to prevent art desecration and violence through education of the arts. Censorship is the result of the fear of art. When the fear of art turns into iconoclasm or, rejection of a valued belief system, that fear becomes lack of government funding, desecration, and physical violence. Visual artists fell through the gaps and did not receive federal support for their work until the creation of the NEA or National Endowment for the Arts in 1965. This federal program had little funding but proved a growing interest in art and art viewing from the public. This demand for art creates a demand for funds to support venues and museums so they can keep their doors open. A problem with the NEA is that they provide government funding, which prevents them from being biased about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. A Successful Intervention Initiated By The Government For... Help: A successful intervention initiated by the Government for obesity is that food calories, carbohydrates, fat, saturates, protein, sugar and salt are placed on all food packets. Customers can see exactly what is in the food and how it relates to their daily amount. So, I would further this idea to the environmental problem. On packages supermarkets can display the statistics for how much greenhouse gases each meat product has produced and how many resources were needed to make it. This intervention is aimed at creating awareness of everything that goes on in the meat industry. In turn, people can see how much harm their meat is causing and cut down their meat to reduce their impact on the environment, leading to reduced sales, demand of meat and a reduction on their impact on the environment. This intervention can also initiate a need for meat companies to put more effort into using alternative eco friendly methods to reduce their harmful impact on the planet. With the amount of CO2 and resources shown on their products customers will be able to compare the environmental impacts that different companies cause. With people s knowledge of diet and the environment increased they will choose which brand products to buy by carefully considering their environmental impact. This will lead companies into wanting to get their environmental impact down to become more popular to the customer. As well as being an intervention for knowledge, this should also affect ... Salaries for general managers can be in the six figure range, according to Wensing from $150,000 to $200,000, by some accounts (Ruiz 2006). This sounds like the perfect place to work but there is always room for improvement to make sure that the employees are able to keep an open flow of communication not only with each other but with other franchises and corporate. This way, if there are any concerns within a particular field that can t be settled by management alone, they can be addressed by cooperate. After all, it was the vice president of performance and development, Chuck Wensing that said, One of our biggest challenges is the notion of how to get big, but remain small (Ruiz 2006). My recommendation for this would be to hold quarterly and annual events that allow the executives to mingle with the employees so that they may hear their thoughts and opinions in person. It would allow for idea sharing between franchises and offer more training that can lead to higher pay or recognition. This would also help to bolster employee morale and overall performance. Another thing the Cheesecake factory does that works well is create a simple managerial set up that follows the principles of organizational structure. While Salva was crossing the desert in chapter 7 he found himself losing hope. But Uncle Jewiir didn t let that happen. He made sure to stay by Salva s side when he needed somebody for comfort and he gave advice. According to chapter 7 (page 41), it states that If it hadn t been Uncle, Salva might have gone crazy with fear. Uncle spoke to him all morning in a steady, low voice. This shows us that Salva was afraid of the lions and he needed someone to comfort him. This also shows that without Uncle Jewiir Salva would probably be long gone. It also says in chapter 9 (page 53) that As if by magic, Uncle was suddenly at his side. Salva Mawien Dut Ariik! he said, using Salva s full name, loud and clear. Salva lifted his head, the sobs interrupted by surprise. Do you see that group of bushes? Uncle said, pointing. You need to only walk as far as those bushes. Can you do that, Salva Mawien Dut Ariik? That huge gap between the income of a doctor and a professional athlete shows that professional athletes are overpaid by a lot. The income of a professional athlete should be lowered and the income of important jobs should be raised higher than they are now. The way that professional athletes risk their health to potential injuries may affect their salary, but they should only get paid a normal amount of money and get more money when injured. Professional athletes are overpaid to just play sports, while our troops get paid less than them. The income gap between professional athletes and important jobs such as doctors, has increased drastically and will keep increasing. Instead of the athletes having a huge income, the people that we need daily should have that money in order to keep them well paid. After looking into the mind of Ian Chovil who was a victim of the mental health disease and finding his accounts very eccentric it is clear that this is something that could quite possibly affect the brains of the people that commit serious crimes in regards to the Media. Ian says in his story a few things which connect this type of mental health to violent obscure behaviour. He says he had delusions right from the start which after reading his story states, progressed from visions of famous persons trying to force him to commit suicide right to the later stages of his schizophrenia where he says he got a lot of messages from favourite Rock and Rolla songs, movies, cartoons and library books. Ian doesn t say these forms of media forced him to murder innocent people but it does provide evidence that he received messages. These messages in the mind of another schizophrenic could lead to serious acts of violence which leads onto the next part of his story where he mentions how his delusions changed as aliens instructed him on the real nature of reality then three things happened as contact with reality became very tenuous, he got into trouble with the law, became an alcoholic and lost his job. • 17. First Language Acquisition And The Doubt Towards... Due to the development in first language acquisition and the doubt towards contrastive analysis which has deemed that all errors made by language learners are caused by the interference from the mother tongue, error analysis, a response to and an alternative of contrastive analysis and an approach influenced by behaviourism was given birth to and become increasingly popular among researchers and teachers who began paying more attention on and shifting the interest in the errors made by second languagelearners in the 1960s and 1970s (Mitchell, Myles and Marsden, 2013). Central to the notion of erroranalysis is that it is a process where learners errors are collected and analysed in order to get some implication from the results (Brown, 1987, p. 17; Corder, 1967; Khansir, 2012) and the purpose of error analysis according to Corder (1974, p. 170) is to find what the learner know and does not know and to ultimately enable the teacher to supply him not just with the information that his hypothesis is wrong, importantly, with the right sort of information or data for him to form a more adequate concept of rule in the target language . Moreover, Gass and Selinker (2008) also agree that second language learners errors can provide information about their knowledge of the system. To know how error analysis works, firstly it should know what an error is and its possible sources. When it comes to the definition of errors, many researchers have given their own ideas. Corder ... • 20. Editing And Compression In Memento, By Christopher Nolan A person s identity relies heavily on one s memories. How can one know who they are, if they cannot remember who they were and what they experienced to get to the present? In Memento, director Christopher Nolan highlights the importance of memory in forming one s identity. The movie follows a man named Leonard who is determined to track down and kill the man who raped and murdered his wife. Unfortunately, Leonard suffers from anterograde amnesia, meaning he can remember everything leading up to the incident, but he is incapable of forming memories of anything which occurred after his wife s death. Throughout his investigation, Leonard compensates for his handicap by writing himself notes which he tattoos on his body. But as Leonard s investigation moves forward, Leonard himself cannot. With his wife s death as his last memory, he finds himself out of sync with the rest of the world as his identity remains stuck in the past. In Memento, Nolan uses editing and mise en scene to reinforce the idea that a person s identity relies heavily upon their memories. One of the most outstanding film techniques in Memento is its use of editing. The scenes of the movie are sequenced in reverse chronological order, with the film beginning at the storyline s end and ending at its beginning. In doing this, Nolan is able to mimic an experience for the viewer which is similar to Leonard s anterograde amnesia. Without previous context for each scene, the audience is often unable to ... The Use Of Sexual Gratification On College Campuses Hookups are a type of brief sexual relationship that typically occur on only one occasion between two people who are usually strangers or have briefly become acquainted (Paul, McManus Hayes, 2000). Hooking up may be considered to be the contemporary term for the older phrase one night stand which also implies a no strings attached interlude. In this sort of association, sexual gratification can be the primary goal, with companionship being a distant consideration. This variety of alliance can certainly involve both heterosexual and homosexual couples and can be facilitated through friends or like minded individuals. According to one study, this casual and non committal sexual encounter based form of interaction now finds itself as the predominating heterosexual relationship on college campuses (Stinson, 2010). All these topics challenge today researchers, due to the strong dynamic behaviour of the user communities and of resource collections they use. D. In this paper, with the help of the advanced automation and information technologies, a new hydraulic regulation method was proposed to achieve on site hydraulic balance for the district heating systems with distributed variable speed pumps configuration. The proposed method was comprised of a new hydraulic model, which was developed to adapt the distributed variable speed pumps configuration, and a calibration model with genetic algorithm. By carrying out the proposed method step by step, the flow rates of all distributed pumps can be progressively adjusted to their designated values. A hypothetic district heating system with 2 heat sources and 10 substations was taken as a case study to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method. Two scenarios were investigated respectively. In Scenario I, the flow rate of one substation varied according to its heat demand and the flow rates of other substations maintained their original values. And in Scenario II, the flow rates of all substations varied synchronously with the same relative rate. The results of the both scenarios indicated that all pumps could be properly adjusted to their designated flow rates by the proposed method with a high frequency adjustment resolution as 0.001 Hz. H. Societal Views of Women in the Victorian Era in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House A Doll s House, by Henrik Ibsen, creates a peephole into the lives of a family in the Victorian Era. The play portrays a female viewpoint in a male dominated society. The values of the society are described using the actions of a woman, Nora, who rebels against the injustices inflicted upon her gender. Women s equality with men was not recognized by society in the late 1800 s. Rather, a woman was considered a doll, a child, and a servant. Nora s alienation reveals society s assumptions and values about gender. A woman was considered by society to be a doll because she was expected to be subordinate to her husband s whims. Torvald replies with a condescending statement: Does my little Nora acknowledge that at last? (26). Torvald expects only childish talk from her. He even tells her she is little, like a child, and although he expects nothing more than child s talk from her, he does expect to be obeyed. Nora plays the part of a slave in her subservience to her husband, for she is supposed to abide by his rules and be dependent on him. She is not supposed to think for herself and repeatedly told so by those around her. When speaking about Nora in her presence, Torvald says, She is so terribly self willed (55). Nora has a conversation with Mrs. Linde, who also tells her, Don t be self willed (57). Torvald tells her, I will advise you and direct you (64). Nora is expected to be a dependent slave who follows her husband s advice and directions. Women were also legally dependent upon men. The society s laws of that time even required the male to cosign everything that a woman had to sign. Spaying or neutering refers to a surgical procedure to render a dog or cat unable to produce litters of puppies or kittens ( What is Spay/Neuter? ) . Spaying and neutering are surgeries performed by a veterinarian removing the reproductive organs. Spay and neuters are the most commonly performed animal surgeries. There are many advantages to spaying or neutering an animal. There are also common misconceptions of these surgeries. Spaying a pet is the surgical removal of the reproductive organs. In female, an ovariohysterectomy, or spay, is the removal of the uterus, uterine tubes, and ovaries ( Spaying Your Cator Dog ). Spaying is considered a routine abdominal surgery. The animal will be placed under general anesthesia, and recovery is usually prompt. Spayed females will no longer have estrus cycles and will no longer be able to reproduce. Neutering refers to the removal of both testicles from the scrotum through a small incision ( What is Spay/Neuter? ). Neutering is also known as castration. A neutered male cat or dog is no longer capable of reproducing. Animals tend to recover quicker from a neuter rather than a spay because it is less invasive (Tobiassen Crosby 1). • 39. The Importance Of Recess In Schools Across America school districts continue negotiating as to whether or not recess is an essential part of a child s school day. Recently there has been pressure to increase test scores in the United States. Consequently, recess is being cut or reduced in order to provide children with additional instructional time, but are breaks necessary for active learning? Recess is also a liability issue for schools since the environment is more relaxed and more exposed to the outside world. Ever since we can remember recess has been a vital part of the school day, but should that change? Will cutting recess improve children s test scores? This all started approximately five to ten years ago when nearly half of the schools in the United States began to lessen recess time or even cut it entirely (Dills 890). Some schools are not even building playgrounds anymore (Schachter 37). This occurred because of the push to increase test scores and the incentives that go along with it. The higher the test scores, the more funding schools receive. Therefore, schools are making sacrifices and doing the best that they can in order to receive as much funding possible. A school cannot be run properly without sufficient support so cutting recess if it in fact improves test scores is justifiable. As Anthony Pellegrini wrote in his book, to adults recess is just playtime and has no actual value, but for kid s recess is important (181). This remains the reason numerous districts are questioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Public Administration And The Public Sector Old Public Administration was created to answer the questions to many unanswered problems. President Woodrow Wilson said it was harder to run a constitution than to frame it because of the difficult administrative tasks had to deal with. Sure enough, he was not the only person who felt that way. President Wilson believed that in order to run an effective government, ideas from the private sector should be incorporated into the public sector. He even went as far as to give input on how the government would be able to implement ideas from the private sector to the public sector. And that is to limit what hierarchical organization can do. Wilson believed that those in power would not have control of creating the policy, but they will have a handle on how the policy is implemented. Two themes stood out around the topic of Public Administrationthe distinction between policy and administration, and the accountability of elected individuals who are a part of an organization. The second theme was around the use of structures and strategies to ensure that managementwork efficiency. Many had much to say when it came Wilson s statement that Policy and Administration should be separate entities. In this family unit, Biff must endure the unrealistic and fantasy based elusions of his father in his fanatical pursuit of the American Dream. However, Biff soon learns of Willy s extra marital betrayal to his mother, which allows him to experience an epiphany against the self deception of his father s abusive fantasy world. Don Quixoteidealized the books he read, branded his own version of his reality, and put it into action. Don Quixote so loved the books he read, he tried to become one.
