How To Use A Thesis Statement In An Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of utilizing a thesis statement in an essay presents its own set
of challenges. First and foremost, one must delve into the fundamental understanding of what a
thesis statement is and its pivotal role in shaping the entire essay. This requires a keen grasp of
the subject matter, as well as the ability to articulate thoughts coherently.
Navigating the balance between providing enough information to support the thesis while
avoiding unnecessary details can be a delicate task. Ensuring that the thesis statement is clear,
concise, and effectively encapsulates the essence of the essay is another layer of complexity. It
demands a meticulous selection of words and a deep consideration of the target audience to
strike the right chord.
Additionally, maintaining a logical flow throughout the essay, with each paragraph seamlessly
connected to the thesis statement, requires both organizational skills and a nuanced
understanding of the essay's overall structure. Striking a balance between depth and breadth of
discussion adds another dimension, demanding a judicious selection of supporting evidence and
examples.
Furthermore, the challenge lies in not only understanding how a thesis statement functions but
also in applying this knowledge to diverse essay genres and topics. Different subjects may
necessitate unique approaches, making adaptability a crucial skill in the essay-writing process.
In conclusion, the difficulty in crafting an essay on the effective use of a thesis statement is
multi-faceted, encompassing the need for a profound understanding of the topic, adept language
skills, organizational acumen, and adaptability to diverse writing demands.

Murder Capital Of The World
In a period of four years one metropolitan city experienced a 1,000 percent increase
in homicides. Steven Dudley and Elyssa Pachico report that there was an astounding
3,000 murders reported in 2010 compared to only 300 murders in 2006. The
statistics dubbed Ciudad Juarez as the murder capital of the world during these years.
The ongoing war between the once dominant Juarez Cartel and the current reigning
rival Sinaloa Cartelspurred the homicide rate in this crucial drug trafficking route.
Recent speculations are that the Sinaloa Cartel led by Joaquin El Chapo Guzman
Loera has surpassed the waning Juarez Cartel and taken control of Cd. Juarez s
territory (Shoichet). Just like both groups are to blame for the colossal amount of
murders so can the shift in power and dominance by one organized crime group in
the area could be accredited the dramatic decrease in violence. Crime in this border
city which neighbors El Paso, TX has had a sharp decrease in killings. Julio
CastaГ±eda, a Chihuahua state spokesman, reports, So far this year (2015) there
have been 89 killings (Valencia). Fighting organized crime will always be an
international challenge, but the war against organized crime in Mexico and along
the border with the United States needs to be approached differently than it has been
in the past. The high demand for illicit drugs in the United States needs to be
minimized, the supply of weapons flowing south to arm federal law enforcement
agencies in Mexico needs to stop,
Michael Patton s Utilization-Focus Evaluation
H. Stanley Judd once quoted, A good plan is like a road map: it shows the
destination and usually the best way to get there. Since evaluation is judge on the
uses of its findings it is important to know where to start and where to end. The goal
is to help the readers understand how evaluation is judge, how to utilize the findings
and the lasting impact on those who were part of the evaluation.
Summary:
My essay looks at Part 1 of Utilization focus Evaluation , through the eyes of author
Michael Patton, who believed that Evaluation is done for and with specific intended
primary users for specific, intended uses (2009, p.36). It presumes that evaluations
are judged by their utility and use. Evaluators should carefully consider how
everything affects the use. The term use is defined by how people apply findings and

Patton supported his claim with adequate evidence throughout the reading. The
author strongly suggests that evaluation should never be done independently, but
primary intended users should be allowed to sit at the table to help make decisions
that would influence the intended use. One example was the welfare to work
program exercise where internal evaluators met to discuss the finding of their
evaluation. It is clear that no primary intended users were identified and little
thoughts if any were given to how the evaluation results would be used. For Patton,
the number one priority to good evaluation starts with primary intended users who
input can help guide the evaluation from the start to the finish. In contrast, Brandon
W. Youker, author of Goal Free Evaluation: A potential Model for the Evaluation of
Social Work Programs believed in a goal free evaluation, whereby evaluators should
make observations, and measure any outcomes intended or unintended without any
knowledge, goals or even
Historical Perspective of Alcoholism
Introduction Alcohol is the oldest and still probably the most widely used drug
today. Some consider alcohol as an opponent but many consider it as an ally.
Moderate amounts stimulate the mind and relax the muscles, but larger amounts
impair coordination and judgment, finally producing coma and death. It is an
addictive drug leading to alcoholism. Alcohol is known since antiquity to have
some therapeutic value. Opium and alcohol had long been used as analgesics.
Greek medicine had employed wine and vinegar in wound care. Now we know that
alcohol is a good antiseptic. Alcohol has other values in modern medicine such as
pain relief, delay labor, raising HDL level, etc. Pure ethanol is a colorless, flammable
liquid (boiling point 78.5Вє C).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were the most important scientists in the history of chemistry and chemical
technology in Islam. Their works exerted a dominating influence on later
generations of Muslims and Europeans. The most important of the great chemical
discoveries in the Middle Ages were alcohol and mineral acids, and the key to
finding them was through the process of distillation, which the Arabs developed
and mastered. Distillation was one of the most important processes in Islamic
chemical technology and was employed for both medicinal preparations and a
variety of other technological and industrial uses, including the preparation of
acids and the distillation of perfumes, rosewater and essential oils. Several great
Muslim chemists clearly described the distillation of wine using specialized
distillation equipment. Al Rahzi, in his book Kitab al Asrar (The Book of Secrets)
described the process of distillation and the apparatus used. He used distillation to
concentrate alcohol, which was then taken as an anesthetic. Al Kindi (9th century
AD), describes distillation and the apparatus in his book, Kitab Kimya al itr wa al
Tas idat (Book of Perfume Chemistry and Distillation). Al Kindi says: In the same
way, one can distill wine using a water bath, and it comes out the same color as
rosewater. In Spain, the Arab surgeon Aub al Qasim al Zahrawi, (d.1013 AD), known

Same Sex Marriage And Civil Rights For Same-Sex
Marriage
Same sex Marriage is a question that comes across my path on a consistent basis.
The agency where I work advocates this practice, which requires yearly training
videos to ensure everyone understands the rules of the practice. Although our society
bends the laws to support this practice, I will argue that government laws do not
hold true to God s law or even the law of nature. Additionally, I will argue that
marriage, by natural law, is designed for procreating purposes.
When someone thinks of marriage, it is two people, man, and woman, that have
fallen in love, went through the ceremony, have children, and the circle of life
begins. Marriage has a specific orientation to having children. The first of Augustine s
three goods of marriage children would be inapplicable to covenant partnerships: the
second and third goods faithfulness and the bond of permanence would very much
apply. But marriage has been re ordered by the resurrection of Christ, shares Thatcher.
In contrast, the argument for same sex marriage is that it is just like civil rights of
that African Americans. The civil rights movement and civil rights for African
Americans are nowhere near the same or in comparison to a social agenda pushed
by those for same sex marriages. According to History.com, shares a portion of the
struggle for civil rights for African Americans:
Because large segments of the populace particularly African Americans, women, and
men without property have not always been
Frederick Douglass and Benjamin Franklin
Frederick Douglass and Benjamin Franklin
American success history recognizes the contributions made by two of its renowned
leaders. The two are regarded as heroes despite the obvious differences between them
abound. The two figures are regarded with comparable amounts of reverence even
though they lived their lives in different ways. Nevertheless, both Benjamin Franklin
and Fredrick Douglas gained their status through treading pathway of hard work.
This paper, therefore, seeks to discuss the experiences that shaped the lives of both
Franklin and Douglas. It also seeks to analyze the life of Fredrick Douglas as
presented by John Stauffer. In comparing the two personalities, I will lay much
emphasis on the role education played in making ... Show more content on

He was in early 1817 on one of the plantations of Maryland. The identity of Douglas
s father and exact date of birth is not well known, but it is assumed to be a white
man from a family who owned his mother. Harriet Bailey originally named his son
Fredrick Bailey but, unfortunately, he parted with his mother while still young and
was raised by other slaves in the plantation (Douglas 67).
Fredrick Douglas went to the North and was married to Anna Murray, a black
woman who married him in New York City. They then fled to New Bedford where
Douglas found work as a laborer. In around 1841, Douglas had an opportunity of
attending the Massachusetts Anti Slavery society which was held in Nantucket. It
was during this time that he got on stage and delivered a speech which moved the
crowd. He delivered his life as a slave with passion such that he was encouraged to
dedicate himself in speaking against slavery (Douglas 45). This marked the
beginning of his activism in northern states. For instance, in 1843, he was nearly
killed while giving out a speech in Indiana.
During the 1850s, Douglas was in the fore front in abolishing slavery, which was
threatening, to tear the country apart. In the beginning, Douglas felt that John
Brown s anti slavery ideas and plans were suicidal and he refused to engage in a raid
on Harper Ferry. Brown s activities saw him captured and hanged, an act which
The Nineties Pros And Cons
The nineties were a very interesting and busy time in the United States, it was
unique any other time period before it especially when it came to culture.
Politically the nineties was a very busy time as well starting off the nineties was
president George H. Bush. Bush made a lot of promises he couldn t keep over his
presidency like promising no new taxes and to cut spending to reduce deficit by
five hundred billion dollars in only five years. After these promises started to fail
Bush gave in to Democratic proposals to raise taxes and increase spending, this
caused Republicans to feel like they d been cheated thus he was was not reelected in
1992 instead we got president Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton caused plenty of his own
problems in his
Tiered Reflection
The reflection this week asks us how we would differentiate instruction for writing a
research paper in our relative area of interest. Specifically speaking, the reflection
asks for two specific differentiated learning tasks. One of the activities must involve a
tired activity, while the other can utilize any of the strategies suggested in the lesson.
For this particular reflection, I will focus my attention on an early middle schoollevel
activityto differentiate on writing a research paper. To begin the lesson, I would
complete a diagnostic assessment to see the background knowledge of research
writing. For the tiered activity, I would split students into three groups the first
having limited to no knowledge of research writing, the second having some
knowledge of the topic, and the third having a solid understanding of the research
writing process. Each student will receive a graphic organizer that they will use to
assist with the note taking, outlining, and thesis of their paper making this the
constant among all groups. To differentiate, group 1 or the group with the most
limited knowledge will randomly pick from a pre selected list of animals to research.
This group will receive pre printed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students would receive an editing checklist and copy editing/proofreading mark list
to help with highlighting inaccuracies on other classmates papers. This group will
contain a mixture of students from all three tiered groupings, as to ensure a variety of
background and content knowledge. Additionally, group 1 and group 2 students will
have an opportunity to see how group 3 students structure their work. Lastly, students
will not be paired with other students that have the same animal to make sure all
levels utilize analytical and processing skills to question their peers
The Prevalence Of Salmonella Gastroenteritis

BIO 405

Prior to 1990, there was an underestimation of the prevalence of Salmonella
gastroenteritis in the Caribbean. This was due to several potential reasons; first,
there was a lack of resources necessary to conduct a thorough investigation. In
addition to this, only a small fraction of patients follow the steps necessary to
become a laboratory confirmed case. Lastly, in 1990, there were outbreaks among
tourists staying in the Caribbean, with one case resulting in death. This led to
more widespread concern of Salmonella, as media coverage greatly increased after
this incident. Many different organizations, such as CAREC, began to attempt to
find the source of the pathogen after this event in 1990. Ebola is underestimated
for some of the same reasons that Salmonella used to be; not everyone with Ebola
reports it or goes to the hospital. However, Ebola differs from representation of
Salmonella before 1990 in that there is a large amount of resources being allotted
toward prevention and treatment. In contrast to Salmonella before 1990, Ebola is
also very well known globally and garners considerable media coverage.
There are several steps necessary for a comprehensive case study outline of the
Caribbean outbreak of Salmonella. First, the problem must be detected: it was
recognized in the 1980s as a pathogen of public health concern, causing severe
gastroenteritis. However, it did not begin to receive considerable attention from

The Death of Julius Caesar, a Great Leader
Julius Caesar was a great leader of Rome. Not only did he lead a very strong army,
but his people also loved him. The debate is always should he have been killed or
should he have lived and lead us to more victories.
The first document that was used in the debate is a primary source. It s called De
Vita Caesarum, Divus Iulius. The document is a biography of Julius Caesar and his
life. Suetonius wrote the biography. Suetonius was a roman historian who wrote
about the Roman Empire. It was written in 110 CE. It was written to show the side
of the senators, and how they felt about having emperors. It is trustworthy because
Suetonius used eyewitnesses and other evidence from books to provide a lot of
information about Caesar. The only thing that I think is missing is the side of
Caesar because he wrote it from the perspective of the senators view. Which puts
Caesar in a bad light because the senators did not like Caesar. Considering that the
article was written based off of the senators, it put Caesar in a bad light. Meaning
that this author did not want Caesar to live. Another document that was used was a
secondary source. It was an article written in the Britannica Student Encyclopedia.
It was written for the public to read and understand Julius Caesar. It was used to
give a brief overview of Julius Caesar s life. It talked about him as a person, the civil
war that he was involved with, the march he lead, as well as his reputation. The
article is moderately trustworthy
Nietzsche Outline

Nietzsche Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche is a German philosopher. He was a
nineteen century s philosopher and he challenged the Christianity and morality.
He was born in the town of Rochen, near Leipzig on October 15, 1844. He was the
son and grandson of a minister. When he was four years old his father passed away
and after six months later, his younger brother suddenly passed away. After that
incident Nietzsche, his sister and mother moved to the place where his two aunts
were living. He was an intelligent student and his teachers were inspired by his
work at school. In fact, his teacher Friedrich Wilhelm Ritschl wrote a letter in his

anything he wants to do . (R.Lanier Anderson, Nietzsche s Life and works). In
1970, he volunteered as a nurse s assistant (Nietzsche vii). He was a philosopher,

Essay on The Immune System
The Immune System
The immune system is a network of organs that contain cells which recognize foreign
substances and destroys them. All living organisms are exposed to harmful
substances and most can protect themselves in several ways, either with physical
barriers or chemicals that repel and kill them. It protects vertebrates against viruses,
bacteria, fungi and other parasites. These viruses are called pathogens.
The immune system is known to help in the fight against cancer. A type of white
cell, which is called the killer cells, is able to identify tumour cells simply by its
change in its surface membrane. Other cells, called the helper cells, assist the killers
to multiply and they then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inflammatory response
Diseased organisms trigger the inflammatory response off in the affected tissues. It is
a non specific defence which attacks invading organisms. Blood flow increases and
neutrophil cells ingest and destroy organisms.
The invading organisms damage the tissues so they release prostaglandins and
histamine. They not only attract neutrophil cells they also cause pain and swelling.
The neutrophils in other parts of the body are attracted by poisons which are
produced by organisms. They can get through the tiniest of places in the blood vessel
walls to enable it to reach the injured tissues.
Antibodies are proteins which are specially created to attach themselves to the
invading organisms. Antibodies are recognized by their receptors, the antibody and
the diseased organisms attach themselves to the neutrophils. The neutrophils form
pseudopods which swallow up the organisms. Once ingested the organisms become
isolated in the phagolysosome, which is a type of cell. This is known as phagocytosis.
The substances which have broken down the organisms drain into the
phagolysosome. The undigested parts of organisms can be either excreted at the cell
membrane or stored.
The non specific inflammatory response can prevent the spread of infection.
However, if infection does spreads there are two defences an antibody or
How Did Susan B Anthony Impact Society
Susan B. Anthony has had a significant impact on society because she was greatly
involved in women s rights movements, she was active in many organizations that
benefited the nation, and she was also an abolitionist. Susan B. Anthony was born
February 18, 1820 and died in 1906 at age 86. She was born into a Quaker family
and was a school teacher for fifteen years(source 1). She learned to read and write
at the age of three(source 2). Her first public speech was given in 1841(source 3).
In 1979, she was honored with the Susan B. Anthony dollar coin in 1979 by the
U.S. Mint. She was arrested, put to trial, and then fined one hundred dollars by the
judge, which she refused to compensate for in 1872 when she tested the rights of
the fourteenth amendment(Source 5). Anthony spread the word of woman s rights
by traveling nationwide to make a difference in her country. For instance, Anthony
toured to nation in support of various social causes starting petitions, making
speeches, and lobbying congress (McGill, Sara A. 3). This shows that she was
extremely passionate and driven to do what she believed was right, and she really
worked hard to make a positive change in society. Therefore, Susan B. Anthony s

temperance movements, through these organizations, constantly making a difference
for women. Therefore, Susan Anthony s Determination for woman s rights and
equality really influenced her positive impact on
Are Athletes Bad Role Models
Athletes are amazing role models because they are responsible. In fact, Teen boys
don t take steriods from athletes, it s more from self asteem and wanting to impress
girls (sportsanddrugs.procon.org NA). Over the years athletes have been known to
take drugs. Drugs then were allowed in sports because people didn t know how they
affected the body so harshly. Now, that drughave been banned in physical sports,
athletes have stopped doing them. According to a survery Drug in young teensc

To be responsible you must have control over what you say and do. Especially
when you are an athlete because of how much paparazzi and fans follow your
every move. Many, if not all, athletes know to do this in fear of being humiliated or
hated by fans. Kids can learn from this because of how much kids, and teens, over
react over the little things in life. For example not getting that favorite toy or phone
you want, you can just save your own money up to buy it and not over react. You
also must have self control for most jobs or managers won t hire you. Athletes are
definitely responsible for having self control.
Furthermore, Most athletes that aren t responsible think favors get handed to them
and money grows on trees. It takes a real athlete to see past that (thehealthsite.com

you. You need to be responsible and do things and earn thing on your own. To do this
you must learn how to be responsible. These athletes teaching what they do and say.
Anyone can learn from that, as the golden rule states do onto others as other do onto
you. This is what those athletes are
Marigolds And Jem
Almost everyone has had a tantrum before, so there should be no surprise when it
occurs in novels and short stories. Notable characters such as Lizabeth from the
short story, Marigolds , by Eugenia Collier and Jem in To Kill a Mockingbird, a
novel by Harper Lee, impulsively burst with rage, unable to control their emotions
because after all, they are just children. The fourteen year old African American girl
named Lizabeth along with her familystruggle financially in an impoverished town
during the Great Depression Era. Despite this, Lizabeth and her little brother enjoy
childish acts, especially annoying Miss Lottie, an elderly neighbor who cultivates
Marigolds in her yard. Later in the novel, Lizabeth lets loose her emotions from her...

The sources of these strong emotions are internal factors as the problems stem from
her family. Lizabeth specifically chooses to ruin the Marigolds because she hated
those marigolds. They interfered with the perfect ugliness of the place; they were
too beautiful (Collier 3). The flowers prosper in a place that lacks financial
prosperity, therefore contrasting with Lizabeth s impoverished state. Since being
poor is a reason for her great outburst, Lizabeth targets the Marigolds as they do not
fit in with her current situation, but rather serve to remind her how poor she is.
On the other hand, an external factor provokes Jem: the insults thrown by Mrs.
Dubose towards his father. Right after the elderly neighbor said: Your father s no
better than the niggers and trash he works for! Jem was scarlet (Lee 135), which
indicates the start of his anger since people s face turn red when they get mad. He
finally unleashes his rage on Mrs. Dubose s flowers as he can not tolerate her
ridicules any longer. Since the reason that results in the destruction of the flower
came from someone else, this is an external factor. Therefore, Jem s reason behind
the destruction of flowers is not similar to Lizabeth s because one is an internal
factor while the other is an
Shooting An Elephant By George Orwell
George Orwell is an amazing writer of the 20th century who is famous for his short
stories and poems. In many of his essays, he seeks to entertain and educate the
audience about a particular aspect of society. Among his best works include Politics
and the English Language and Shooting an Elephant . These two stories are written
very meticulously in order to show the audience how easily we as humans tend to
change the things we say, along with our behavior due to others influence on us. The
two essays share some similarities when it comes to their writingstyle, but differ
greatly when it comes to their tone.
By reading these stories, one can see that they are written in a quite similar manner.

In Politics and the English Language Orwell takes an aggressive and critical tone.
For example, Orwell states that the English dialect has turned into something ...ugly
and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our
language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts ( Politics 463). This is his
main argument in this particular work. It highlights the way he perceives the state of
the English language at that time, and the ways in which it is being destroyed by the
mere aspects that are supposed to protect and uphold it. Evidently, Orwell takes this
unique approach in a bid to ensure that the world understands his concerns where
linguistic preservation is concerned, along with the elements that interfere with their
use. It is safe to say that Orwell is more concerned with presenting his own personal
perspective in regards to changes in language, rather then letting the reader decide on
their own as he does in Shooting an Elephant . This helps form a foundation for the
aggressive and critical tone that he embraces in this particular
Racism in William Shakespeare s Othello Essay
Racism in William Shakespeare s Othello
The play, Othello, is certainly, in part, the tragedy of racism. Examples of racism are
common throughout the dialog. This racism is directed toward Othello, a brave
soldier from Africa and currently supreme commander of the Venetian army. Nearly
every character uses a racial slur to insult Othello at one point in the play. Even
Emilia sinks to the level of insulting Othello based on the color of his skin. The
character that most commonly makes racist remarks in Othello is Iago. It is very
apparent that Iago uses racism as a scapegoat to hate and blame Othello. Societal
racism takes its toll on its victims. The effect of racism on Othello is quite evident
and is one of the main causes for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He turns against his friend, Othello, and labels him as a lesser person because of his
race. Iago s easy provocation of an important Venetian senator by using Othello s
racial characteristics shows how prevalent racism is in the play.
Roderigo also plays a part in the stereotyping of Othello. He is extremely upset that
Desdemona has eloped with Othello, because he has been attempting to court her
for several months with no avail. Roderigo, like many other characters, then bad
mouths Othello with racial slurs in order to paint a picture of Othello being a lesser
person than himself. Roderigo, with great delight, says, what a full fortune does the
thick lips owe, (1, 1, 72 73) in order to scapegoat him.
Emilia, when she discovers what Othello has done to Desdemona, also reverts back
to racial stereotyping. Rather than simply being enraged and distraught, and perhaps
criticizing his actions, she roars at him, O, the more angel she, and you the blacker
devil! (5, 2, 161) This sudden cry from Emilia who seemed previously indifferent to
Othello s race perhaps betrays some of the deep rooted stereotypes that existed in
The Influence Of Witchcraft In Arthur Miller s The Crucible
In The Crucible , there was a supernatural influence. Three reasons on why the girls
obviously did witchcraft is that on page 12, Betty wakes up and starts to yell what
she and Abigail did the night the witchcraft happened.. Also, on pages 22 24,
Abigail is trying to put the blame on Tituba but Tituba hears her and starts to deny
it. Also, Abigail threatens the group of girls that were involved in the witchcraft.
Also, Sarah Good confesses to being involved with the Devil and Mary shares that
Sarah s spirit was trying to strangle people in the courtroom. Lastly, Abigail
confesses to the fact that witchcraft is the reason why Betty is sick. Firstly, on page
12, Betty wakes up and start to yell about what happened the night of the
witchcraft. When Betty wakes up she first yells I want my mama! While that may
seem normal, Betty s mama was dead and buried for awhile. She then yells to
Abigail You drank blood, Abby, you drank blood! Abigail then shushes her and
Betty yells again saying You did, you did! You drank a charm to kill John Proctor s
wife! She most likely did drink blood for that reason because Abigail had a secret
relationship with John Proctor. This reason can prove that the witchcraft did actually
happen because there is no reason that can help the fact that Betty started to confess
about what happened that night. There is no excuse that gives Betty a pass to be
able to start yelling about the fact that Abigail drank blood. Secondly, on pages 22

An Inspector Calls By. Priestley
JB Priestley wrote An Inspector Calls in 1945 during the Second World War,
however the play was set in 1912 just before World War 1 and the sinking of the
Titanic. He did this to show the audience that society wasn t equal. Both authors
write in times that present issues of sexism, racism and social divide between the
working class and the upper class. The play was first performed in 1946; Priestley
became increasingly aware of social inequality of life in Britain and believed that
people should take responsibility for others. Because there was strong distinctions
between the upper and lower classes Priestley used the Inspector to portray beliefs
of a socialist society. Priestley used the play An Inspector Callsto convey a moral
message to teach a 1945 audience the theme of responsibility. Wealthy people with a
higher status in society had more power, taking advantage of those who were not able
to stand up for their rights.
The novella Of Mice and Men written by Steinbeck was set in America in the 1930s,
when the Great Depression was happening, as a result of the Wall Street Crash in
1929. Many people were affected by this catastrophe, especially farmers who lost
their jobs and were forced to leave their homes and travel to other areas with more
money, such as Golden California to find work on ranches because of economic
depression, poverty and social inequalities. Steinbeck based his novella on the
American dream because he knew that during that era,

voice by examining their use of literary techniques. Song of Songs unveils the true
nature of what the Bride loves about the Bridegroom using similes and imagery to
convey her deep expression of laudatory by not only revealing who he is to her as a
person but why she loves and praises him so, whereas in Sonnet130 Shakespeare
expresses harsh truth towards his mistress beauty with the use of similes, metaphors,

woman but that he, Shakespeare, loves her for her. In Song of Songs, it is shown that

Without the usual sea of students crowding the halls, the school felt empty and

Cardiovascular Program Analysis
This research question is important in this program because it will help determine
whether this cardiovascular program has increased the capacity to address heart
disease, change mindsets, and to reach goals of the cardiovascular program. In this
program we are devoted to prevent and manage cardiovascular diseases through
professional education and research for clinicians, providers, and patients. The
evaluation question is also important because it will help define the burden that
cardiovascular disease has on the state of Georgia. By focusing on these areas and
risk factors trends can be tracked among the priority population. Cardiovascular

Harlequin Character Analysis
Harlequin characters have acted as a precursor to the modern model of clowns.
Within the Italian genre of the commedia dell arte. Within this genre, the harlequin
is a stock character recognized for foolish behavior and stupidity. These traits have
traditionally defined the character, and are often the core components of the
character s emotional and psychological depth. However, the figure has been
portrayed as a more complex character. A clear contrast between the idiotic nature
of the traditional archetype and the psychologically developed persona is displayed
in the differing portrayals in Carlo Goldoni s The Servant of Two Masters and
MoliГЁre s The Imaginary Invalid. Goldoni s work evokes the spirit of the traditional

Toinette and Argan s brother, BГ©ralde, determine that they must convince the
hypochondriac that he is not sick, so she poses as a doctor and tells him that the
physicians he has been seeing are all incompetent, while giving him nonsense
advice of her own, forcing him to realize not all doctors are as professional as they
seem (MoliГЁre Act III Scene XIV). Additionally, she proposes that Argan fake his
own death, thereby exposing his wife BГЁline as a gold digger when she fails to
mourn him (MoliГ©re Act III Scene XVIII). MoliГ©re, instead of portraying
another stereotypical moron who advances the plot only through coincidence,
creates a heroine who actively shapes the events of the narrative through her own
intellect. A notable difference between Truffaldino and Toinette is their
relationships with their masters. Truffaldino s disobedience is not intentional, but
is a result of his own incompetence. It is because of his stupidity that he destroys the
money given to him by his master Beatrice to show the inn owner Brighella how to
set a dining table (Goldoni Act II Scene II). Toinette, however, is willing to chastise
her own master, and will argue with Argan if she feels it is best for AngГ©lique.
Instead of watching idly when Argan decides to marry his daughter off for his own
selfish desires, she refuses to
Morality In Bernhard Schlink s The Reader
The Effect of Literacy on Morality in Bernhard Schlink s The Reader In The
Reader, Hanna Schmitz is a representative figure whose capacity for moral
judgement is much influenced by her illiteracy. Hanna has a great secret that she
would risk her life to hide her illiteracy, which she tries to hide by continuously
switching jobs. One of her jobs is a concentration camp guard, which is considered
to be an immoral and unethical position except in the Nazis s biased perspective.
Another considerably immoral behavior is her controversial sexual relationship with
Michael, a young teenager who is weak and vulnerable. However, Hanna s behavior
has changed after she learns how to read because she understands what is considered
to be right and wrong. Schlink presents the direct relationship between literacy and
moralitythrough Hanna s story. Hanna s secret affair with Michael, a teenage boy,
illustrates Hanna s inability to consider and evaluate different aspects of morality due
to her illiteracy. Hanna saves Michael s while he was throwing up on the street;
however, she seduces him immediately afterwards. It is an unethical action for a

The theme of love and betrayal between generations is also found in Taiwan. Many
classmates mentioned, recently, there was a sunflower student movement in Taipei.
The students cared and loved the policemen because they have been protecting the
country for years; however, they also felt betrayed by the policemen, who had done
harmful behaviors towards the students. Comparing the sunflower movement to the
novel, the love and betrayal theme in the novel is more unique due to its holocaust
background. I never knew the struggle that is caused by the cultural background can
be that dramatic until I read this novel. Michael loves Hanna, but he feels guilty for
loving Hanna, who was a concentration camp guard, and he also feels betrayed by
DNA And Short Tandem Repeats
A DNA fingerprint can be used in forensic analysis to identify suspects. It can be
obtained by using restriction enzymes that cut around Variable Number Tandem
Repeats (VNTRs) which are unique to each individual. VNTRs, also known as Short
Tandem Repeats (STRs) are non coding stretches of the human genome that consist of
short sequences of DNAwhich are repeated in tandem (Panneerchelvam, 2003). This
indicates that these consecutive repetitive sequences are directly adjacent to one
another (Treangen, 2011). Since the number of repeats varies from one individual to
another, it is an effective tool in the development of forensic DNA analysis
(Panneerchelvam, 2003). In order to use these VNTRs from a potential suspect, a
sample of DNA is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this lab, evidence DNA and the DNA samples of two different suspects were
available. Two restriction enzyme digests were conducted to cut the samples into
smaller pieces. An increase in the number of restriction enzyme digests increases
accuracy and decreases the likelihood of false positives. This is crucial in forensic
DNA analysis. Finally, the DNA was separated using Electrophoresis. Agarose Gel
Electrophoresis is the most effective way of separating DNA fragments of varying
sizes and charge (Lee, 2012). Agarose gel is ideal since during gelation, the
agarose molecules are held together by hydrogen bonds which form pores
uniformly throughout the gel giving it its molecular sieving properties (Lee,
2012).The DNA to be separated is inserted into the pre cast depressions/wells in the
gel (Lee, 2012). The gel is then inserted into a chamber and an electrically
conductive buffer solution is added until the gel is completely submerged (Lee,
2012). Positive and negative electrodes are connected to each end of the chamber
and an electric current is applied (Lee, 2012). Since the phosphate backbone of the
DNA molecule is negatively charged, the DNA will be repelled from the negative
electrode and will move toward the positive electrode (Lee, 2012). DNA bands will
be visible in the gel with varying distances (Lee, 2012). Smaller fragments will move
farther throughout the porous gel.

Examples Of War Is Peace In 1984
War is Peace. This is the first of the three slogans of the Party of Oceania. It sounds
sort of funny to think of it literally, but it has a different meaning in the book 1984.
By saying war is peace, they describing a way for a country to peacefully stay under
the control of a leader. War keeps a country or society dependent on their leaders or
form of government. In Oceania and in this type of society, war is different. The
countries are no longer fighting for land or other natural materials. They are fighting
for labor power. There are a few densely populated areas that are filled with cheap
labor. These areas are constantly being fought over and changing hands. In an
economy that is focused on production and consumption they are always... Show

This is the last of the three Party slogans. In the book O Brian says this slogan can
go both ways. He says, Alone free the human being is always defeated. (Orwell,
264) So in this case, being free is slavery to defeat. In war or in a disagreement, if
you are alone you will most likely be defeated. There is strength in numbers. Also
in this society if people are free to think or do what they want, they are week. By
being enslaved by the thoughts and ideas of the party they are made strong. If you
reverse the slogan and say slavery is freedom, it is also true for this novel. By
being enslaved by the party and the way of life, proles are given the power to be
free and live their lives. They are still under the control of the Party, but they can
still live their lives. I think in a way freedom can turn into a form of slavery. In our
country we pride ourselves with being the land of the free, but we have so many
regulations now. Our freedom is restricted so that everyone is equal and nobody gets
hurt. These restrictions and regulations are to maintain the freedom of our country. I
think we have gotten to the point where we are so protected, that we are enslaved
with the very things that are suppose to grant us freedom. Also I think that sometimes
we can want to be free so bad, that we can be enslaved with our own thoughts and
Kony 2012 Thesis

In fact Kony 2012 targets a very specific group of people that group is the youth and
I would have to say Western youth. Many critics denounced Kony 2012 because it s
recurrence of familiar narrative, that of middle class and predominately white, young
American saving Africans from their own self imposed miseries (Fisher, 202). Kony
2012 set out to empower young people to do more than just watch, it empowered
them to take action. You can see this in the video as they interview young adults they
make them relatable. Although supporters where from all ages and walks of life,
surveys showed that over eighty eight percent of supports were under the age of
twenty six (Karlin Matthew, 2012). Invisible children targeted the youth by touring to
schools (middle school, high school, and colleges), using popular musicians, and of
course social media. Invisible children also intentionally targeted and worked with
celebrities who were appealing to the youth. Another appealing draw to youth was the
products that they used to promote Invisible Children like apparel, bags, bracelets,
stickers and actions kits . These products enabled participants in the movement to
wear their involvement, which in turn strengthens their involvement (Karlin Matthew,

Most Interesting Plot Imagine a story with lots of action, well developed plot

will quickly engage his or her attention. Rising action in a story satisfies this need.
In Most Dangerous Game the main character faces many challenges, namely the
danger of being stalked by General Zaroff, an avid hunter who idolizes hunting and

Both climaxes deliver anxiety to the reader through intense, exciting action. First,
the climax of Most Dangerous Game surprises the reader. A man, who had been
hiding in the curtains of the bed, was standing there. Rainsford! screamed the
general. How in God s name did you get here? Swam, said Rainsford. I found it
quicker than walking through the jungle (Connell 52). This climax is very
exciting and unexpected because the reader assumes Rainsford s fate when he
jumps off the cliff into the ocean. Now Rainsford confronts his hunter providing a
climax that leaves the reader with anxiety, prodding him or her to read on.
Contents Of A Dead Man s Pocket also leaves the reader with unease at the climax.
As Tom reaches for the paper on the dangerous ledge, the reader reaches with him.
He couldn t quite touch it, and his knees now were pressed against the wall; he
could bend them no farther (Finney 30). Uncertainty fills the reader s mind in a
similar way to Most Dangerous Game . In contrast Finney s climax comes earlier in
the story, which gives more time for the resolution of the story. These stories both
have breath taking climaxes, written to produce anxiety in the reader, nudging them
to read on. Finally, the resolution of the stories shows the main difference between
the two. Connell provides a dry resolution, giving few clues to the reader about the
fate of Zaroff. After Zaroff loses the game, Rainsford confronts Zaroff, and
The Big Bang Theory Of The Universe Essay
Evidence pointed towards that the universe was expanding, but this was not enough
to separate the Big Bang theory from its rivals. A few decades after the redshift
concept was discovered, scientists detected groundbreaking evidence that was
considered the smoking gun. Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson detected the remnants
of radiation created from the Big Bang. This cosmic background radiation was the
thermal radiation left over from the Big Bang. It was collected in the form as
omnidirectional microwaves, which was red shifted because of the expansion of the
universe. While they were not able to detect large quantities of cosmic background
radiation, the principle of overdetermination allowed them to make claims from this
evidence. They deduced that this radiation must of come from a Big Bang event were
protons and neutrons formed hydrogen atom. This was the smoking gun to the
beginning of the universe, it revealed that only an event like the Big Bang could
create this radiation. All the evidence collected suggested that an event like the Big
Bang would be the only explanation to what scientists had collected. The Big Bang
theory became the most probable theory against its rivals, but scientists were tasked
with an even more difficult problem. They needed to be able to explain how the Big
Bang resulted in the unique universe we observe around us. With the Big Bang
theory established, scientists needed to understand how this theory could create our

which would mostly occur between March and October. In order to maintain its
role as a leader in the industry and to create its competitive advantage, the
manufacturing facilities are also planned to be used for manufacturing custom

Japan s Economic History in the Last Forty Years Essay
In the 1970s Japan had one of the world s most admired economies. Economists
believed it would achieve the highest living standards and continue to develop the
best technologies. At that time, Japan boosted he world s second largest gross
national product and eventually reached number one by the late 1980s However,
everything changed in the early 1990s, and Japan entered what has been described as
its first lost decade (Kuepper, n.d.). Economists and historians have studied the causes
for Japan s stagnation over the past twenty years, but there are significantly different
opinions regarding the issue. Most agree that the huge asset bubble was the cause for
the initial stagnation, but they disagree as to the reasons for why this... Show more

This led to poor supervision and allowed bad debts to continue in the financial
system (Posen, 1998). The lack of effective leadership led to serious policy
mismanagements and aggravated the problem. In 1997, the government issued a 2%
consumption tax increase and the government also contracted spending on
government projects. People became even more insecure and started saving more
outside the private banking system (Posen, 1998). In this case, a government policy
made the crisis even worse.
Another example of policy mismanagement is he dependence on interest rate cuts
from 1985 to 1987. The government did this to try to counter the deflationary
impact of the yen appreciation relative to the dollar after the Plaza Accord The yen
appreciation has become an enduring problem because it has restricted the success of
certain policy gears that could have solved the economic problems (Okimoto, 2004).
The second reason to account for the continuing stagnation is the lack of enough
investments due to Japan s age. As industrialized countries age, it becomes more
difficult for them to create enough investment to boost their economy. Private and
government fixed investment have experienced a growth slower than the GDP from
1991 2003, which registered 0.24% and 0.59% respectively, at the start and finish of
this period. Taking a closer look at private investment, private housing experienced a
sharp 2.48% decline. Government and private

Labelling Theory Of Police Brutality
America has come a long way from its racist historical past, however the truth
remains that police brutality continues to have its effects on marginalized
communities (Embrick 2015, p. 837). It has become a social norm to see fatality
from police brutality, and long gone is the image of police officers being the peace
keepers for all (Onyemaobim 2016, p. 182). Different sociological perspectives can
be applied to understand policebrutality and the consequences it can have on
marginalized communities. The question this paper looks to answer is how does
sociological theory, specifically the labelling theory, help to explain police violence
and the consequences it can hold on these communities. The Labelling Theory itself
is based on symbolic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Labelling theory suggests that police brutality stems from the existing stigma that
poor minority communities are deviant characters (Anderson 2017, p. 31). Thus,
due to the constant violent behaviour pressed on by police officers, many people of
colour are less likely to report a crime, and take it upon violence to seek for help
(Desmond Andrew 2016). Which could mean that, if police brutality increases so will
the lack of reporting on crimes within marginalized communities, and thus an influx
of crimes within that community (Brunson Miller 2005). Which brings it back to
labelling theory, as the stereotype that minorities are deviant characters will continue
due to the rising crime rates, as well as the stigma that all officers are biased
depending on race and social status (Desmond Andrew 2016). To finish, this adds to
the understanding of what is crime and deviance, as it indicates to how police
brutality is a deviant action brought on by the typecast or master status on lower class
minorities (Desmond Andrew
Political And Social Involvement Of Public Opinion On...
Political and social involvement is among the most discussed issues nowadays,
since the considerable influence of public opinion on government policy is
unquestionable. It is obvious that political participation directly affects our lives.
The range of attitudes toward controversial aspects of politics, economics, religion,
and so on is too broad in American society. In this regard, public opinion research
becomes extremely important. It helps us better understand citizens expectations,
to assess the impact of public opinion on government decision making, and, thus,
to forecast the possible future events that may play crucial role in the development
of society. The aim of this assignment is to interview people from different
demographic groups and to analyze their various points of view on social and
political issues. I asked 23 people to take my survey. For this purpose, I mostly
used the questions from a quiz of the Pew Research Center. However, I added a few
more questions to my questionnaire. It seemed reasonable because it provided a
deeper understanding of such important issues as the cost of liberty, the guarantee of
safety and security of all members of the society, invasion of privacy, and limitations
on freedom of speech and expression. Though in general, my questionnaire covers a
wide range of themes, the questions can be divided into three main categories:
1.Support of the government by the citizens 2.Civil liberties and safety 3.Economic,
cultural,
What Is The Evil In Lord Of The Flies
There is darkness inside everyone. Evil, malice, wickedness. Society attempts to
stomp out these innate traits. In his critically acclaimed novel, Lord of the Flies,
William Golding explores what happens to a person when the pressures of society
are removed. A group of British boys are stranded on an island without any adults.
They form a society that slowly falls apart as half of the boys, led by Jack, are drawn
into the savage life accepted on the island. Ralph s group attempts to remain civil,
but their success is questionable. Jack s group becomes more and more brutal and
savage, and three of the boys die. Golding wrote this book as an allegoryfor the
psychoanalytic theory of the personality, the Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id is the
evil part, driven by base instincts and desires. The Superego strives for morality and
rules, and the Ego attempts to balance the two out. Golding strongly believed that
humans at their most base level are evil, a theory developed through his life
experiences. Golding fought in WW II, and is quoted saying World War II was the
turning point for me. I began to see what people were capable of doing. ( William
Golding3) Golding believed that without society people would revert entirely to the
Id, foregoing the Superego. He expressed this message in Lord of the Flies by
characterizing different boys as the different parts of the personality. He explored
what happens to the personality through the development of these characters. Golding
Aviation Industry Essay
Introduction As an industry, aviation is not immune to changing economics, low
demands, and threats. Throughout the history, there have been hundreds of airlines
formed, but some have already disappeared and some are still going strong. Aviation
industry is constantly being challenged by economic status, organizations, and
individuals which affect the revenue, growth and profitability of each airline. Tragic
events that took place on September 11, 2001 put a huge dent in the industry but
currently in the process of recovering slowly and steadily. Demands for air
transportation is constantly on the rise even with occasional sets backs encountered
by the industry such as; terrorism, changing economics, skyrocketing fuel prices,
demand changes, and increasing competition.
Current Status of the Company In the early days, the airline was struggling to
perform financially. It took about five years to post its first profits. Today, the airline
operates 10 hubs and 9 maintenance bases which are located mostly on the west
coast. Current hubs are also served by the partner airlines.

Questions and Anwers about Singing
1. What is the difference between a vocal warm up and a vocal skills development
time? A vocal warm up is thought of as getting the juices flowing, whereas vocal
skills are developed through teaching singing strategies. Choir teachers need to
have a variety of vocal exercises in their bag because not every exercise will work
for every student. The exercises used within a vocal warm up, work to build
proper posture, breathing, phonation, resonant tone production, range, agility,
diction, expression, aural acuity and sight reading skills. The best example I can
think of between the differences in a vocal warm up and developing vocal skill is
sight reading. A vocal warm up is something that anyone is able to do no matter
how much vocal training they have had. A person that has had no musical training
would not be able to warm up on sight reading because they have never read music.
This student may be able to create proper posture and do vocal exercises but they

Essay The Renaissance and Art
The rebirth of art in Italy was connected with the rediscovery of ancient philosophy,
literature, and science and the evolution of empirical methods of study in these fields.
Increased awareness of classical knowledge created a new resolve to learn by direct
observation and study of the natural world. Consequently, secular themes became
increasingly important to artists, and with the revived interest in antiquitycame a new
repertoire of subjects drawn from Greek and Roman historyand mythology. The
models provided by ancient buildings and works of art also inspired the
development of new artistic techniques and the desire to re create the forms and
styles of classical art.

Shortly thereafter Monet entered two paintings into the Salon which gained him some
success. From there in 1969, Monet travels with friend Renoir to La Grenouillere,
where together they begin their studies side by side.
Claude Monet can be classified as a forerunner of Impressionists, Neo
Impressionists, Fauvists, Cubists, Abstract painters, and the Non Figurists. He is
often called The Father of Impressionism (Taillander 6). Although Monet had some
works accepted into the Salon, he was one of the first to paint in the Impressionist
style, and persisted even after his works were rejected and shunned. Renoir said
Without Monet, we would all have given up (qtd. in Taillander 8). Monet was seen
as an extremist because he captured the fleeting moment, creating a degree of
wooliness in his canvasses which have not been interpreted with any certainty
(Taillander 8). In Monet s paintings, his interest lies not in details, but in capturing
the effect of the whole scene as it would be perceived in a fleeting glance (Welton
14). The term Impressionist was first given by a critic when reviewing Monet s
painting,
There were many important developments that made the Impressionist style of
painting possible. One of these developments was painting outside or en plein air .
Previously, artists had to paint in their studios because it was too burdensome to take
large canvasses and other supplies outside. Metal tubes invented in the 1840s allowed
The Health Care System Is Not A Centralized Control One...
The U.S. health care system is not a centralized control one like other developed
countries. Therefore, leaving it very fragmented with many participants having a
say about its governance. Health policy which is a set of course of action
undertaken pertaining to health care affecting the public health, its financial
services, quality care etc. does not escape the multiple governance
(healthpolicy.org). Arriving to one health policy may even be more complex than
the delivery of care. Different interest groups like pharmaceutical research, AARP,
Physicians, etc. all feel that their issues are what is needed for the advancement of
healthcare and the public. Needless to say, that they are many forces influencing
health policy. We have the public sector, which is composed of the local, state and
federal legislation, court ruling etc. Private sector that is composed of hospitals,
agencies, accrediting organizations, health professionals, etc. Last but not least
political forces, play even a bigger part in bringing a health policy to life. Thus,
bring us to the purpose of this inquiry. How does the legislative process affect
health policy and what role does a health professionals play in nurturing a bill into
law in the U.S.? The legislative term has referred to the process of making or
enacting laws by a legislative body established and empowered to do so (business

each step. During each
Violation of Fourteenth Amendment Due Process Rights
FACTS Appellant Brady was found guilty of first degree murder by the Maryland
Court system. During his trial hearing Brady admitted to participating in the
organization and forethought of the crime with a partner, although plead that he
himself did not commit the crime. After disclosing his involvement, Brady s
lawyer admitted to his guilt but asked for a lesser penalty since Brady didn t
commit the murder. Before trial Brady s council asked for all relevant information
to the trial and were given most, but not all of it. The withholding of evidence was a
violation of due processlaws in which a new trial was requested. A new trial was
granted but only for sentencing and not a retrial of fact.
PROCEDURAL HISTORY Brady was convicted of murder in the first degree even
though he proclaimed not have committed the murder and that his partner in crime
carried out the deed, no pun intended. His accomplice had admitted to committing
the murder in a separate trial which Brady learned of later on. The confession of his
accomplice was suppressed and not shared with the defense as it had been requested.
After the defense learned of this suppression, an appeal was filed and remanded the
case for retrial of sentencing only. The United States Supreme Court upheld the
decision and confirmed while the withheld evidence did violate the due process
clause, it didn t prove innocence and a granting just a new sentencing trial was legal.

The Use Of Ketamine And Its Effects On The Human Body
A drug, being a substance that affects the normalcy in physiological/psychological
functioning of the human body, is prone to affect the body easily, thereby bringing
down the human body from its epitome of perfection to downright uselessness.
Sadly, drugs have become so imbedded in the current society that laboratories are
battling over who has brought the newest, most versatile and effective drug that
works fast enough. Of all drugs in the world today, the following are supposedly the
most dangerous due to the following factors; ease of addictionand withdrawal, health
effects on the user and severity leading to death.
Top 10 most dangerous drugs in the world
Ketamine
Ketamine is medically designed to be used as a sedative and anesthesia in animals
such as livestock. Humans however abuse the drug as it makes one fall into a
trance like state where they are insensitive of their body and surrounding. It is
mostly used by rapists on their victims, who fall prey to STIs and unwanted
pregnancies. Its overdose can lead to death due to elevated blood pressure.
Tobacco
Being one of the major constitutes of a cigarette, tobacco is one of the most abused
drugs in the world. The fact that it is legal makes tobacco to be viewed and used as
one of those casual drugs though its health implications are far reaching. It mostly
affects the breathing system because it is inhaled. It also accounts for over 40% of
the illnesses in those abusing it. Nicotine is the main drug found in
Mandatory Wolf In France
A man can be a beast. Deceptive eyes, a threatening grin, the capability to commit
monstrous acts; man and beast sound alike. This fine line that exists between fact and
fiction is how legends thrive and conquer the truth.
From 1764 to 1767 a series of vicious attacks plagued the population of
GГ©vaudan, France, instilling fear in many of its inhabitants. Numerous people
were killed or severely injured, some reports stating hundreds of victims, which
sparked myths and stories that spread throughout France. The beast blamed for these
attacks was described as having a blood red coat, large teeth, and was said to be
twice the size of any normal wolf. Hunters at the time used special bullets and guns
because stories claimed that mundane weapons ... Show more content on

In 1858 the first literary reference to the beast was published by Г‰lie Berthet in his
book titled La BГЄte du GГ©vaudan, which explores the beast by depicting it as a
man who believes himself to be a werewolf (Berthet 314). A vital piece of
information is the fact that the people of GГ©vaudan were so unwilling to see the
story from an analytical standpoint, and admit that the killer might have been a
person. The population of France accepted a large, wolf like creature over the
concept of turning on another human being. Unity was valued by these people,
whatever conflicts were going on between the upper and lower classes, or the
protestants and the Catholics, the majority valued
JFK Leadership Profile Essay
Land of the free, home of the brave , the United States has stood amongst the most
powerful and influential countries of the world for decades and decades. In order
to maintain said reputation, the country needs a leader just as strong and
influential. In the early 1960s the United States had a leader who was a leader
among leaders and had the respect of an entire nation. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was
the 35th President, who took office on January 20, 1961 but before that Kennedy
was a World War II hero, a United States Senator, and published a book titled Profiles
of Courage which won him a Pulitzer Prize (www.famouspeople.com). John F.

After enrolling in business school in Stanford, in 1940, Jack [John Kennedy]
publicly registered for the first peacetime draft in US history and his number was
the 18th drawn (Ward, 2005); he did not pass the Army s physical and spent an
entire summer working on his physical condition and health. Kennedy used his
father s political influence to get him into the Navy. In the mind of Kennedys, the
United States Navy was the ivy league of the military branches and sticking with
his families urge to maintain public image, he did not want to enlist in the Army.
From a young age, Kennedy showed strong leadership skills; he led by example.
As a training officer, on one of the PT boats he commanded, they became stuck on
ground and wanted to know what was under there, rather than send somebody else
over the side, he went over himself. He didn t say to the executive officer, You go
over and look. He did it himself. He knew there are certain dangers in going over it
(Wood, 2005). By going over the side of the boat to see what they were stuck on,
Kennedy demonstrated that he was no better than any of his men and no task was
beneath him to complete personally. This is the sign of a true leader. Leaders have
an inner desire to better themselves; he was not content with just being a training
officer. He soon applied for combat duty
Figurative Language In Yeats s The Wild Swans At Coole
Mysterious, beautiful are words that spring to mind in regard to Yeats poetry. There
is no denying the complexity of some of his poetry much like this quote from the
Wild Swans at Coole many of his poems have both a literal and figurative meaning. I
found some aspects of Yeats poetry quite challenging at times, on the other hand, I
found that he also had the ability to get complex ideas across using both direct and
accessible language.
Yeats use of figurative language and metaphor baffled me at first. His poems are
bursting with symbols, which must be deciphered in order to get to the core of the
poem. There is no doubt that this can be difficult, but it can also be very rewarding.
An apt example of this is Sailing to Byzantium (SB), ... Show more content on

This predominant autobiographical quality of his work makes his poems thought
provoking it gives the reader an insight into the reality of the poets life. The poet also
talks about his life with a determined honesty, sometimes resulting in an unflattering
portrait of himself, adds to this appeal. The final section of the second stanza in E16
deals with Major John MacBride. Yeats despised this man. He was married to Maud
Gonne, the loves of Yeats life. Despite the personal animosity, which Yeats had
towards MacBride, he admires his actions and sacrifices. He had done most bitter
wrong to some who are near my heart, yet I number him in the song . This adds a
personal aspect to the poem E16. The poem WSC is a deeply personal poem that
discusses unrequited love. This poem evoked a sadness in me as I sympathised
with Yeats. There s something terribly tragic about the fact that in nineteen short
years he has gone from being a young man who trod with a lighter tread , a man
with all the possibilities of the world stretching before him, to one whose heart is
sore . I definitely felt like there was a lesson for me there
Vladimir Putin And Russian Statecraft Summary
The preface and introduction of Vladimir Putin and Russian Statecraft by Allen C.
Lynch introduces the namesake of the book, Vladimir Putin. The purpose of these
is to grab the reader s attention, while also briefly inducting the reader if they are
clueless about the topic. This goal they achieve, they are successful in educating
the reader, as if it was a Wikipedia article. However, while they serve to orient the
reader, the two are very distinct in their focus. The preface focuses on Vladimir
Putin, a brief summary of his upbringing to his 12 years of rule, at the time of the
book s release. The summary explains his rule, but also multiple aspects of his rule.
The summary focuses on Russia, covering the aftermath of the Soviet Union and the
near collapse of democracy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To note, the West has preconceived notions that were caused, and have lasted, by
the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Putin s centralization of power, oppressive
control, and military engagements in Georgia and South Ossetia, all these reaffirm
the West s perception that Putin is attempting to return to Soviet Authoritarianism.
However, in Russia, all these actions are seen as necessary. The country was on the
verge of collapse when Putin came to power. Social reforms had upturned the
former way of life and corruption was rampant. In Russian s, and Putin s, eyes, the
country is becoming more modernized. Putin is doing what he sees fit, using his
prior experiences from the two decades before his presidency. Putin is the savior of
Russia, and, arguably, the creator of today s
Material Properties Of Steel Iron
Material Properties of Steel
Steel is an alloy of iron, with carbon being the primary solute in the solid solution. It
is a polycrystalline solid with grain diameter from 10 to 20 micro meter (Ashby et
al). The presence of impurity like carbon causes the crystal lattice distortions to
increase, hence making giving steel better hardness, yield strength, and tensile
strength, at the cost of ductility. Pure iron being very ductile but comparatively weak,
steel is widely because of its greater load bearing capacity. Other impurities are also
introduced into steel to produce different properties. Materials like chromium,
vanadium, titanium, boron etc. are added to steel to give it better corrosion
resistance, hardness, tensile strength and better fatigue response (Smith et al).
Elements like carbon and nitrogen form take up interstitial spaces between the iron
atoms owing to their reduced atomic size (Smith et al). Elements with larger atoms
like nickel, chromium, aluminium, sulphur, phosphorus etc. act as substitutional
elements (Smith et al). Although, the inclusion of various alloying elements do alter
the material property and the crystalline structure, material property of basic steel can
be understood by analyzing various phases of iron and carbon solid solution.
Considering the structural differences in steel it can be differentiated into austentic,
ferretic and martensitic.
As excessive presence of carbon in steel can render steel extremely brittle and hard,
carbon
Gangs Of The 1920s Essay
One of the key sacred, in some instances characteristics of Chicago s gangs of the
1920 was the division across ethnic lines. In other words, representatives of the same
ethnic group stuck together and frowned upon the inclusion of outsiders into their
gangs. Of course, larger gangs were often multiethnic, but their core was
predominantly monoethnic. The same tendency prevailed across the country, as
gangs in New York and Philadelphia were also increasingly homogenous. Asian triads,
Italian mafia, Irish and
Jewish gangs were all incestuous organizations with ethnically homogenous core.
Thus, Johnny Torrio and Al Capones Chicago Outfit was an Italian American gang.
Their rivals, the North Side Gang, were primarily individuals of Irish descent.
Westside
O Donnells and Southside O Donnells also comprised mobsters who were most often
of Irish origin. Hence, most gangs were based on the perceived bonds of ethnic
loyalty or on the assumption that compatriots would not sell out. This perceived truth
was inculcated in the children of immigrants since childhood by their relatives and
peers alike. Fisher explains that not only street gangs but also such seemingly
innocuous associations as social athletic clubs in Chicago of the early 20th century
were divided across ethnic lines. Neighborhood identity fueled this insularism, as
ethnically diverse children groups from different neighborhoods engaged in melees
with others, with the most common confrontations unfolding between
One Person By Ralph Ellison Analysis
The author uses the concept of a person having power and once they have it ,they
would rather fall back on their preconceived judgement of someone else in power
than make a new judgement of every individual. The idea is compounded by adding
racism, which shows the imbalances of judgement of those in power and uses raceto
group together an individual
For example, Norton is used in the story to show how people with power will view
others in terms of their own goals rather than individuals. This is seen when
Norton has the narrator promise to write the outcome of his education. Norton is
generalizing all black as in need of aid to be a member of society and sees our
narrator as a member of his group instead of an individual person. Bledsoe is

legitimacy and the use a racism to change the mind of people with power
Finally, The impacts of force and the dreamlike illusion in supremacist
corporations are unmistakably found in Ellison s Invisible Man. These themes

Joseph Carey Merrick Research Paper
Elephant Man

Joseph Carey Merrick was born on August 5, 1862 in Leicester to Mary Jane Merrick
and Joseph
Merrick. His siblings were William, John, and, Marian. Joseph Carey Merrick was
born with deformities on his body, head, and even his hands. His parents said that
it was caused by Mary being knocked down by an elephant at the fairgrounds while
she was pregnant with Merrick. That was how Joseph Carey Merrick got his name
that he is well known as, which is The Elephant Man. Merrick had a close
relationship with his mother until she died when he was only eleven. She died of
Bronchial Pneumonia.

The police closed down the Elephant Man exhibit. Joseph Merrick s Manager sent
him to tour in Europe where he was beaten, robbed, and abandoned. In 1886 Joseph
had made his way back to London unable to speak. The police searched Merrick
and found Fredrick Treves business card. Treves brought Merrick to the London
Hospital. Fredrick Treves decided to admit Merrick for his physical condition.
Francis Carr Gomm, supported Treves idea. Merrick s condition had worsened
over the past two years. The London Hospital was not equipped to take care of an
incurable patient so Carr Gomm talked to other hospitals and institutions no one
would take Merrick. Carr Gomm put a letter in the New York Times giving an
outline of Joseph Carey Merrick s life. In result of this letter the public gave much
support. This support earned enough money to get Merrick a place to spend the
rest of his life in the hospital under watch by the nurses and staff. Merrick s case
attracted many people. Many people visited Merrick in the hospital and continued
to give funds. One important person out of the many that visited Merrick was the
Princess of Wales Alexandra. Since Merrick had so many supporters he was able
to fulfill all of his desires before he died. A few thing she got to do with the money
from his supporters were going to the theatre and going on vacation many times in
the country. Merrick spent a lot of his time writing poetry and building a church
out of playing cards. Merrick stayed in the hospital most of the time. Over time
Merrick s condition slowly worsened over the four years that he was in the London
Hospital. He got a lot of care from the staff and nurses. He spent much of his time
in the living quarters or in bed because of his decreased energy. His head continued
to grow larger and the deformities on his head grew larger. Joseph was five feet two
inches when he died. Merrick wanted to be like others but knew that he
Discussion Questions On 127 Hours By Aron Ralston
1.Describe who the speaker (author) presents himself to be (personality, values,
beliefs) How does he see himself? The author in 127 Hours, Aron Ralston, presents
himself many different ways through out the entire book. He is a very evident
naturalist during the novel. He is very down to earth. He values his family and
friends bust mostly he values his time in the outdoors. When he gets his arm
trapped several of his beliefs begin to show. He believes everything happens for a
reason. You did this, Aron. You created it. You chose to come here today; you
chose to do this descent into the slot canyon by yourself. You chose not to tell
anyone where you were going. You chose to turn away from the women who were
there to keep you from getting in this trouble. You created this accident. (?) Towards

he runs out of hope he begins to pray.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is the author s tone? Describe his writing style and how you believe it helps
create tone? The authors tone changes throughout the book. He stays very
optimistic except for a few instances when his mind tells himself that he is going to
die and is giving him negative thoughts. His tone is also very different when he is
having flashbacks to his time hiking with friends or when he is remembering
events that occurred with his family. During his flashbacks he is genially happy.
He has so much love for his family and for hiking and it is so evident because even
with the situation he is in he still reflects on the most amazing times of his life
instead of being pessimistic about the situation he is in. His writing style is very
knowledgeable and detailed. He uses several literary devices such as personification,
illusion and imagery to help with the tone. His writing style helps create tone
because his optimistic outlook on everything gives people hope and it shows that
even in the worst of situations if you are positive you can make it

  • 1. How To Use A Thesis Statement In An Essay Crafting an essay on the intricacies of utilizing a thesis statement in an essay presents its own set of challenges. First and foremost, one must delve into the fundamental understanding of what a thesis statement is and its pivotal role in shaping the entire essay. This requires a keen grasp of the subject matter, as well as the ability to articulate thoughts coherently. Navigating the balance between providing enough information to support the thesis while avoiding unnecessary details can be a delicate task. Ensuring that the thesis statement is clear, concise, and effectively encapsulates the essence of the essay is another layer of complexity. It demands a meticulous selection of words and a deep consideration of the target audience to strike the right chord. Additionally, maintaining a logical flow throughout the essay, with each paragraph seamlessly connected to the thesis statement, requires both organizational skills and a nuanced understanding of the essay's overall structure. Striking a balance between depth and breadth of discussion adds another dimension, demanding a judicious selection of supporting evidence and examples. Furthermore, the challenge lies in not only understanding how a thesis statement functions but also in applying this knowledge to diverse essay genres and topics. Different subjects may necessitate unique approaches, making adaptability a crucial skill in the essay-writing process. In conclusion, the difficulty in crafting an essay on the effective use of a thesis statement is multi-faceted, encompassing the need for a profound understanding of the topic, adept language skills, organizational acumen, and adaptability to diverse writing demands. • 2. Murder Capital Of The World In a period of four years one metropolitan city experienced a 1,000 percent increase in homicides. Steven Dudley and Elyssa Pachico report that there was an astounding 3,000 murders reported in 2010 compared to only 300 murders in 2006. The statistics dubbed Ciudad Juarez as the murder capital of the world during these years. The ongoing war between the once dominant Juarez Cartel and the current reigning rival Sinaloa Cartelspurred the homicide rate in this crucial drug trafficking route. Recent speculations are that the Sinaloa Cartel led by Joaquin El Chapo Guzman Loera has surpassed the waning Juarez Cartel and taken control of Cd. Juarez s territory (Shoichet). Just like both groups are to blame for the colossal amount of murders so can the shift in power and dominance by one organized crime group in the area could be accredited the dramatic decrease in violence. Crime in this border city which neighbors El Paso, TX has had a sharp decrease in killings. Julio CastaГ±eda, a Chihuahua state spokesman, reports, So far this year (2015) there have been 89 killings (Valencia). Fighting organized crime will always be an international challenge, but the war against organized crime in Mexico and along the border with the United States needs to be approached differently than it has been in the past. The high demand for illicit drugs in the United States needs to be minimized, the supply of weapons flowing south to arm federal law enforcement agencies in Mexico needs to stop,
  • 3. Michael Patton s Utilization-Focus Evaluation H. Stanley Judd once quoted, A good plan is like a road map: it shows the destination and usually the best way to get there. Since evaluation is judge on the uses of its findings it is important to know where to start and where to end. The goal is to help the readers understand how evaluation is judge, how to utilize the findings and the lasting impact on those who were part of the evaluation. Summary: My essay looks at Part 1 of Utilization focus Evaluation , through the eyes of author Michael Patton, who believed that Evaluation is done for and with specific intended primary users for specific, intended uses (2009, p.36). It presumes that evaluations are judged by their utility and use. Evaluators should carefully consider how everything affects the use. The term use is defined by how people apply findings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patton supported his claim with adequate evidence throughout the reading. The author strongly suggests that evaluation should never be done independently, but primary intended users should be allowed to sit at the table to help make decisions that would influence the intended use. One example was the welfare to work program exercise where internal evaluators met to discuss the finding of their evaluation. It is clear that no primary intended users were identified and little thoughts if any were given to how the evaluation results would be used. For Patton, the number one priority to good evaluation starts with primary intended users who input can help guide the evaluation from the start to the finish. In contrast, Brandon W. Youker, author of Goal Free Evaluation: A potential Model for the Evaluation of Social Work Programs believed in a goal free evaluation, whereby evaluators should make observations, and measure any outcomes intended or unintended without any knowledge, goals or even
  • 4. Historical Perspective of Alcoholism Introduction Alcohol is the oldest and still probably the most widely used drug today. Some consider alcohol as an opponent but many consider it as an ally. Moderate amounts stimulate the mind and relax the muscles, but larger amounts impair coordination and judgment, finally producing coma and death. It is an addictive drug leading to alcoholism. Alcohol is known since antiquity to have some therapeutic value. Opium and alcohol had long been used as analgesics. Greek medicine had employed wine and vinegar in wound care. Now we know that alcohol is a good antiseptic. Alcohol has other values in modern medicine such as pain relief, delay labor, raising HDL level, etc. Pure ethanol is a colorless, flammable liquid (boiling point 78.5Вє C).... Their works exerted a dominating influence on later generations of Muslims and Europeans. The most important of the great chemical discoveries in the Middle Ages were alcohol and mineral acids, and the key to finding them was through the process of distillation, which the Arabs developed and mastered. Distillation was one of the most important processes in Islamic chemical technology and was employed for both medicinal preparations and a variety of other technological and industrial uses, including the preparation of acids and the distillation of perfumes, rosewater and essential oils. Several great Muslim chemists clearly described the distillation of wine using specialized distillation equipment. Al Rahzi, in his book Kitab al Asrar (The Book of Secrets) described the process of distillation and the apparatus used. He used distillation to concentrate alcohol, which was then taken as an anesthetic. Al Kindi (9th century AD), describes distillation and the apparatus in his book, Kitab Kimya al itr wa al Tas idat (Book of Perfume Chemistry and Distillation). Al Kindi says: In the same way, one can distill wine using a water bath, and it comes out the same color as rosewater. • 5. Same Sex Marriage And Civil Rights For Same-Sex Marriage Same sex Marriage is a question that comes across my path on a consistent basis. The agency where I work advocates this practice, which requires yearly training videos to ensure everyone understands the rules of the practice. Although our society bends the laws to support this practice, I will argue that government laws do not hold true to God s law or even the law of nature. Additionally, I will argue that marriage, by natural law, is designed for procreating purposes. When someone thinks of marriage, it is two people, man, and woman, that have fallen in love, went through the ceremony, have children, and the circle of life begins. Marriage has a specific orientation to having children. The first of Augustine s three goods of marriage children would be inapplicable to covenant partnerships: the second and third goods faithfulness and the bond of permanence would very much apply. But marriage has been re ordered by the resurrection of Christ, shares Thatcher. In contrast, the argument for same sex marriage is that it is just like civil rights of that African Americans. The civil rights movement and civil rights for African Americans are nowhere near the same or in comparison to a social agenda pushed by those for same sex marriages. According to History.com, shares a portion of the struggle for civil rights for African Americans: Because large segments of the populace particularly African Americans, women, and men without property have not always been

The two are regarded as heroes despite the obvious differences between them abound. The two figures are regarded with comparable amounts of reverence even though they lived their lives in different ways. Nevertheless, both Benjamin Franklin and Fredrick Douglas gained their status through treading pathway of hard work. Harriet Bailey originally named his son Fredrick Bailey but, unfortunately, he parted with his mother while still young and was raised by other slaves in the plantation (Douglas 67). Fredrick Douglas went to the North and was married to Anna Murray, a black woman who married him in New York City. They then fled to New Bedford where Douglas found work as a laborer. In around 1841, Douglas had an opportunity of attending the Massachusetts Anti Slavery society which was held in Nantucket. It was during this time that he got on stage and delivered a speech which moved the crowd. He delivered his life as a slave with passion such that he was encouraged to dedicate himself in speaking against slavery (Douglas 45). This marked the beginning of his activism in northern states. For instance, in 1843, he was nearly killed while giving out a speech in Indiana. During the 1850s, Douglas was in the fore front in abolishing slavery, which was threatening, to tear the country apart. In the beginning, Douglas felt that John Brown s anti slavery ideas and plans were suicidal and he refused to engage in a raid on Harper Ferry. Brown s activities saw him captured and hanged, an act which

Specifically speaking, the reflection asks for two specific differentiated learning tasks. One of the activities must involve a tired activity, while the other can utilize any of the strategies suggested in the lesson. For this particular reflection, I will focus my attention on an early middle schoollevel activityto differentiate on writing a research paper. To begin the lesson, I would complete a diagnostic assessment to see the background knowledge of research writing. For the tiered activity, I would split students into three groups the first having limited to no knowledge of research writing, the second having some knowledge of the topic, and the third having a solid understanding of the research writing process. Each student will receive a graphic organizer that they will use to assist with the note taking, outlining, and thesis of their paper making this the constant among all groups. • 9. The Prevalence Of Salmonella Gastroenteritis Jenna LaBelle Take Home Essay 2 BIO 405 11/12/14 Prior to 1990, there was an underestimation of the prevalence of Salmonella gastroenteritis in the Caribbean. This was due to several potential reasons; first, there was a lack of resources necessary to conduct a thorough investigation. In addition to this, only a small fraction of patients follow the steps necessary to become a laboratory confirmed case. Lastly, in 1990, there were outbreaks among tourists staying in the Caribbean, with one case resulting in death. This led to more widespread concern of Salmonella, as media coverage greatly increased after this incident. Many different organizations, such as CAREC, began to attempt to find the source of the pathogen after this event in 1990. Ebola is underestimated for some of the same reasons that Salmonella used to be; not everyone with Ebola reports it or goes to the hospital. However, Ebola differs from representation of Salmonella before 1990 in that there is a large amount of resources being allotted toward prevention and treatment. In contrast to Salmonella before 1990, Ebola is also very well known globally and garners considerable media coverage. There are several steps necessary for a comprehensive case study outline of the Caribbean outbreak of Salmonella. First, the problem must be detected: it was recognized in the 1980s as a pathogen of public health concern, causing severe gastroenteritis. However, it did not begin to receive considerable attention from CAREC

  • 11. The Death of Julius Caesar, a Great Leader Julius Caesar was a great leader of Rome. Not only did he lead a very strong army, but his people also loved him. The debate is always should he have been killed or should he have lived and lead us to more victories. The first document that was used in the debate is a primary source. It s called De Vita Caesarum, Divus Iulius. The document is a biography of Julius Caesar and his life. Suetonius wrote the biography. Suetonius was a roman historian who wrote about the Roman Empire. It was written in 110 CE. It was written to show the side of the senators, and how they felt about having emperors. It is trustworthy because Suetonius used eyewitnesses and other evidence from books to provide a lot of information about Caesar. The only thing that I think is missing is the side of Caesar because he wrote it from the perspective of the senators view. Which puts Caesar in a bad light because the senators did not like Caesar. Considering that the article was written based off of the senators, it put Caesar in a bad light. Meaning that this author did not want Caesar to live. Another document that was used was a secondary source. It was an article written in the Britannica Student Encyclopedia. It was written for the public to read and understand Julius Caesar. It was used to give a brief overview of Julius Caesar s life. It talked about him as a person, the civil war that he was involved with, the march he lead, as well as his reputation. The article is moderately trustworthy

They can get through the tiniest of places in the blood vessel walls to enable it to reach the injured tissues. Antibodies are proteins which are specially created to attach themselves to the invading organisms. Antibodies are recognized by their receptors, the antibody and the diseased organisms attach themselves to the neutrophils. The neutrophils form pseudopods which swallow up the organisms. • 18. Racism in William Shakespeare s Othello Essay Racism in William Shakespeare s Othello The play, Othello, is certainly, in part, the tragedy of racism. Examples of racism are common throughout the dialog. This racism is directed toward Othello, a brave soldier from Africa and currently supreme commander of the Venetian army. Nearly every character uses a racial slur to insult Othello at one point in the play. Even Emilia sinks to the level of insulting Othello based on the color of his skin. The character that most commonly makes racist remarks in Othello is Iago. It is very apparent that Iago uses racism as a scapegoat to hate and blame Othello. Societal racism takes its toll on its victims. The effect of racism on Othello is quite evident and is one of the main causes for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He turns against his friend, Othello, and labels him as a lesser person because of his race. Iago s easy provocation of an important Venetian senator by using Othello s racial characteristics shows how prevalent racism is in the play. Roderigo also plays a part in the stereotyping of Othello. He is extremely upset that Desdemona has eloped with Othello, because he has been attempting to court her for several months with no avail. Roderigo, like many other characters, then bad mouths Othello with racial slurs in order to paint a picture of Othello being a lesser person than himself. Roderigo, with great delight, says, what a full fortune does the thick lips owe, (1, 1, 72 73) in order to scapegoat him. Emilia, when she discovers what Othello has done to Desdemona, also reverts back to racial stereotyping. Rather than simply being enraged and distraught, and perhaps criticizing his actions, she roars at him, O, the more angel she, and you the blacker devil! (5, 2, 161) This sudden cry from Emilia who seemed previously indifferent to Othello s race perhaps betrays some of the deep rooted stereotypes that existed in
  • 19. The Influence Of Witchcraft In Arthur Miller s The Crucible In The Crucible , there was a supernatural influence. Three reasons on why the girls obviously did witchcraft is that on page 12, Betty wakes up and starts to yell what she and Abigail did the night the witchcraft happened.. Also, on pages 22 24, Abigail is trying to put the blame on Tituba but Tituba hears her and starts to deny it. Also, Abigail threatens the group of girls that were involved in the witchcraft. Also, Sarah Good confesses to being involved with the Devil and Mary shares that Sarah s spirit was trying to strangle people in the courtroom. Lastly, Abigail confesses to the fact that witchcraft is the reason why Betty is sick. Firstly, on page 12, Betty wakes up and start to yell about what happened the night of the witchcraft. When Betty wakes up she first yells I want my mama! While that may seem normal, Betty s mama was dead and buried for awhile. She then yells to Abigail You drank blood, Abby, you drank blood! Abigail then shushes her and Betty yells again saying You did, you did! You drank a charm to kill John Proctor s wife! She most likely did drink blood for that reason because Abigail had a secret relationship with John Proctor. This reason can prove that the witchcraft did actually happen because there is no reason that can help the fact that Betty started to confess about what happened that night. There is no excuse that gives Betty a pass to be able to start yelling about the fact that Abigail drank blood. Secondly, on pages 22 24, Abigail

Priestley JB Priestley wrote An Inspector Calls in 1945 during the Second World War, however the play was set in 1912 just before World War 1 and the sinking of the Titanic. He did this to show the audience that society wasn t equal. Both authors write in times that present issues of sexism, racism and social divide between the working class and the upper class. The play was first performed in 1946; Priestley became increasingly aware of social inequality of life in Britain and believed that people should take responsibility for others. Because there was strong distinctions between the upper and lower classes Priestley used the Inspector to portray beliefs of a socialist society. Priestley used the play An Inspector Callsto convey a moral message to teach a 1945 audience the theme of responsibility. Wealthy people with a higher status in society had more power, taking advantage of those who were not able to stand up for their rights. The novella Of Mice and Men written by Steinbeck was set in America in the 1930s, when the Great Depression was happening, as a result of the Wall Street Crash in 1929. Many people were affected by this catastrophe, especially farmers who lost their jobs and were forced to leave their homes and travel to other areas with more money, such as Golden California to find work on ranches because of economic depression, poverty and social inequalities. Steinbeck based his novella on the American dream because he knew that during that era,

  • 28. DNA And Short Tandem Repeats A DNA fingerprint can be used in forensic analysis to identify suspects. It can be obtained by using restriction enzymes that cut around Variable Number Tandem Repeats (VNTRs) which are unique to each individual. VNTRs, also known as Short Tandem Repeats (STRs) are non coding stretches of the human genome that consist of short sequences of DNAwhich are repeated in tandem (Panneerchelvam, 2003). This indicates that these consecutive repetitive sequences are directly adjacent to one another (Treangen, 2011). In order to use these VNTRs from a potential suspect, a sample of DNA is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this lab, evidence DNA and the DNA samples of two different suspects were available. Two restriction enzyme digests were conducted to cut the samples into smaller pieces. An increase in the number of restriction enzyme digests increases accuracy and decreases the likelihood of false positives. This is crucial in forensic DNA analysis. Finally, the DNA was separated using Electrophoresis. Agarose Gel Electrophoresis is the most effective way of separating DNA fragments of varying sizes and charge (Lee, 2012). Agarose gel is ideal since during gelation, the agarose molecules are held together by hydrogen bonds which form pores uniformly throughout the gel giving it its molecular sieving properties (Lee, 2012).The DNA to be separated is inserted into the pre cast depressions/wells in the gel (Lee, 2012). The gel is then inserted into a chamber and an electrically conductive buffer solution is added until the gel is completely submerged (Lee, 2012). Positive and negative electrodes are connected to each end of the chamber and an electric current is applied (Lee, 2012). Since the phosphate backbone of the DNA molecule is negatively charged, the DNA will be repelled from the negative electrode and will move toward the positive electrode (Lee, 2012). DNA bands will be visible in the gel with varying distances (Lee, 2012). Smaller fragments will move farther throughout the porous gel. The expected

It was collected in the form as omnidirectional microwaves, which was red shifted because of the expansion of the universe. While they were not able to detect large quantities of cosmic background radiation, the principle of overdetermination allowed them to make claims from this evidence. This led to poor supervision and allowed bad debts to continue in the financial system (Posen, 1998). The lack of effective leadership led to serious policy mismanagements and aggravated the problem. In 1997, the government issued a 2% consumption tax increase and the government also contracted spending on government projects. People became even more insecure and started saving more outside the private banking system (Posen, 1998). In this case, a government policy made the crisis even worse. Another example of policy mismanagement is he dependence on interest rate cuts from 1985 to 1987. The government did this to try to counter the deflationary impact of the yen appreciation relative to the dollar after the Plaza Accord The yen appreciation has become an enduring problem because it has restricted the success of certain policy gears that could have solved the economic problems (Okimoto, 2004). The second reason to account for the continuing stagnation is the lack of enough investments due to Japan s age. As industrialized countries age, it becomes more difficult for them to create enough investment to boost their economy. Labelling theory suggests that police brutality stems from the existing stigma that poor minority communities are deviant characters (Anderson 2017, p. 31). Which could mean that, if police brutality increases so will the lack of reporting on crimes within marginalized communities, and thus an influx of crimes within that community (Brunson Miller 2005). Which brings it back to labelling theory, as the stereotype that minorities are deviant characters will continue due to the rising crime rates, as well as the stigma that all officers are biased depending on race and social status (Desmond Andrew 2016). To finish, this adds to the understanding of what is crime and deviance, as it indicates to how police brutality is a deviant action brought on by the typecast or master status on lower class minorities (Desmond Andrew

It helps us better understand citizens expectations, to assess the impact of public opinion on government decision making, and, thus, to forecast the possible future events that may play crucial role in the development of society. The aim of this assignment is to interview people from different demographic groups and to analyze their various points of view on social and political issues. I asked 23 people to take my survey. For this purpose, I mostly used the questions from a quiz of the Pew Research Center. However, I added a few more questions to my questionnaire. It seemed reasonable because it provided a deeper understanding of such important issues as the cost of liberty, the guarantee of safety and security of all members of the society, invasion of privacy, and limitations on freedom of speech and expression. Though in general, my questionnaire covers a wide range of themes, the questions can be divided into three main categories: 1.Support of the government by the citizens 2.Civil liberties and safety 3.Economic, cultural,
  • 40. What Is The Evil In Lord Of The Flies There is darkness inside everyone. Evil, malice, wickedness. Society attempts to stomp out these innate traits. In his critically acclaimed novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding explores what happens to a person when the pressures of society are removed. A group of British boys are stranded on an island without any adults. They form a society that slowly falls apart as half of the boys, led by Jack, are drawn into the savage life accepted on the island. Ralph s group attempts to remain civil, but their success is questionable. Jack s group becomes more and more brutal and savage, and three of the boys die. Golding wrote this book as an allegoryfor the psychoanalytic theory of the personality, the Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id is the evil part, driven by base instincts and desires. The Superego strives for morality and rules, and the Ego attempts to balance the two out. Golding strongly believed that humans at their most base level are evil, a theory developed through his life experiences. Golding fought in WW II, and is quoted saying World War II was the turning point for me. I began to see what people were capable of doing. ( William Golding3) Golding believed that without society people would revert entirely to the Id, foregoing the Superego. He expressed this message in Lord of the Flies by characterizing different boys as the different parts of the personality. He explored what happens to the personality through the development of these characters. Golding

Throughout the history, there have been hundreds of airlines formed, but some have already disappeared and some are still going strong. Aviation industry is constantly being challenged by economic status, organizations, and individuals which affect the revenue, growth and profitability of each airline. Tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001 put a huge dent in the industry but currently in the process of recovering slowly and steadily. Demands for air transportation is constantly on the rise even with occasional sets backs encountered by the industry such as; terrorism, changing economics, skyrocketing fuel prices, demand changes, and increasing competition. • 42. Questions and Anwers about Singing 1. What is the difference between a vocal warm up and a vocal skills development time? A vocal warm up is thought of as getting the juices flowing, whereas vocal skills are developed through teaching singing strategies. Choir teachers need to have a variety of vocal exercises in their bag because not every exercise will work for every student. The exercises used within a vocal warm up, work to build proper posture, breathing, phonation, resonant tone production, range, agility, diction, expression, aural acuity and sight reading skills. The best example I can think of between the differences in a vocal warm up and developing vocal skill is sight reading. A vocal warm up is something that anyone is able to do no matter how much vocal training they have had. A person that has had no musical training would not be able to warm up on sight reading because they have never read music. This student may be able to create proper posture and do vocal exercises but they would not be able to sight read. A student that has been in an ensemble will have learned to sight read and then will be able to do this as part of their vocal warm up. Vocal warm ups and vocal skill development go hand in hand. It is difficult to have one without the other. Students are learning to use their voice properly as they are doing vocal warm up exercises. 3. What is involved in energizing the body? The first key to energizing the body is to energize the breath. Also, singers tend to carry a lot of

Essay The Renaissance and Art The rebirth of art in Italy was connected with the rediscovery of ancient philosophy, literature, and science and the evolution of empirical methods of study in these fields. Increased awareness of classical knowledge created a new resolve to learn by direct observation and study of the natural world. Consequently, secular themes became increasingly important to artists, and with the revived interest in antiquitycame a new repertoire of subjects drawn from Greek and Roman historyand mythology. The models provided by ancient buildings and works of art also inspired the development of new artistic techniques and the desire to re create the forms and styles of classical art. From there in 1969, Monet travels with friend Renoir to La Grenouillere, where together they begin their studies side by side. Claude Monet can be classified as a forerunner of Impressionists, Neo Impressionists, Fauvists, Cubists, Abstract painters, and the Non Figurists. He is often called The Father of Impressionism (Taillander 6). Although Monet had some works accepted into the Salon, he was one of the first to paint in the Impressionist style, and persisted even after his works were rejected and shunned. Renoir said Without Monet, we would all have given up (qtd. in Taillander 8). Monet was seen as an extremist because he captured the fleeting moment, creating a degree of wooliness in his canvasses which have not been interpreted with any certainty (Taillander 8). In Monet s paintings, his interest lies not in details, but in capturing the effect of the whole scene as it would be perceived in a fleeting glance (Welton 14). The term Impressionist was first given by a critic when reviewing Monet s painting, There were many important developments that made the Impressionist style of painting possible. One of these developments was painting outside or en plein air . Previously, artists had to paint in their studios because it was too burdensome to take large canvasses and other supplies outside. After disclosing his involvement, Brady s lawyer admitted to his guilt but asked for a lesser penalty since Brady didn t commit the murder. Before trial Brady s council asked for all relevant information to the trial and were given most, but not all of it. Kennedy used his father s political influence to get him into the Navy. In the mind of Kennedys, the United States Navy was the ivy league of the military branches and sticking with his families urge to maintain public image, he did not want to enlist in the Army. From a young age, Kennedy showed strong leadership skills; he led by example. As a training officer, on one of the PT boats he commanded, they became stuck on ground and wanted to know what was under there, rather than send somebody else over the side, he went over himself. He didn t say to the executive officer, You go over and look. He did it himself. He knew there are certain dangers in going over it (Wood, 2005). By going over the side of the boat to see what they were stuck on, Kennedy demonstrated that he was no better than any of his men and no task was beneath him to complete personally. This is the sign of a true leader. Leaders have an inner desire to better themselves; he was not content with just being a training officer. He soon applied for combat duty

There is no denying the complexity of some of his poetry much like this quote from the Wild Swans at Coole many of his poems have both a literal and figurative meaning. I found some aspects of Yeats poetry quite challenging at times, on the other hand, I found that he also had the ability to get complex ideas across using both direct and accessible language. Yeats use of figurative language and metaphor baffled me at first. His poems are bursting with symbols, which must be deciphered in order to get to the core of the poem. Despite the personal animosity, which Yeats had towards MacBride, he admires his actions and sacrifices. He had done most bitter wrong to some who are near my heart, yet I number him in the song . This adds a personal aspect to the poem E16. The poem WSC is a deeply personal poem that discusses unrequited love. This poem evoked a sadness in me as I sympathised with Yeats. I definitely felt like there was a lesson for me there

  • 51. Material Properties Of Steel Iron Material Properties of Steel Steel is an alloy of iron, with carbon being the primary solute in the solid solution. It is a polycrystalline solid with grain diameter from 10 to 20 micro meter (Ashby et al). The presence of impurity like carbon causes the crystal lattice distortions to increase, hence making giving steel better hardness, yield strength, and tensile strength, at the cost of ductility. Pure iron being very ductile but comparatively weak, steel is widely because of its greater load bearing capacity. Other impurities are also introduced into steel to produce different properties. Materials like chromium, vanadium, titanium, boron etc. are added to steel to give it better corrosion resistance, hardness, tensile strength and better fatigue response (Smith et al). Elements like carbon and nitrogen form take up interstitial spaces between the iron atoms owing to their reduced atomic size (Smith et al). Elements with larger atoms like nickel, chromium, aluminium, sulphur, phosphorus etc. act as substitutional elements (Smith et al). Although, the inclusion of various alloying elements do alter the material property and the crystalline structure, material property of basic steel can be understood by analyzing various phases of iron and carbon solid solution. Considering the structural differences in steel it can be differentiated into austentic, ferretic and martensitic. As excessive presence of carbon in steel can render steel extremely brittle and hard, carbon
  • 52. Gangs Of The 1920s Essay One of the key sacred, in some instances characteristics of Chicago s gangs of the 1920 was the division across ethnic lines. In other words, representatives of the same ethnic group stuck together and frowned upon the inclusion of outsiders into their gangs. Of course, larger gangs were often multiethnic, but their core was predominantly monoethnic. The same tendency prevailed across the country, as gangs in New York and Philadelphia were also increasingly homogenous. Asian triads, Italian mafia, Irish and Jewish gangs were all incestuous organizations with ethnically homogenous core. Thus, Johnny Torrio and Al Capones Chicago Outfit was an Italian American gang. Their rivals, the North Side Gang, were primarily individuals of Irish descent. Westside O Donnells and Southside O Donnells also comprised mobsters who were most often of Irish origin. Hence, most gangs were based on the perceived bonds of ethnic loyalty or on the assumption that compatriots would not sell out. This perceived truth was inculcated in the children of immigrants since childhood by their relatives and peers alike. Fisher explains that not only street gangs but also such seemingly innocuous associations as social athletic clubs in Chicago of the early 20th century were divided across ethnic lines. Neighborhood identity fueled this insularism, as ethnically diverse children groups from different neighborhoods engaged in melees with others, with the most common confrontations unfolding between
