damage to the heart muscle and can be fatal. "Myo" means muscle,
"cardial" refers to the heart, and "infarction" means death of tissue due to
lack of blood supply.

A heart attack usually occurs when the supply of oxygen-rich blood to the
heart is suddenly blocked, usually by a blood clot. Lack of blood to the
heart can seriously damage the heart muscle which becomes “starved” for
oxygen, and the heart’s cells die.
TYPES OF HEART ATTACK
1. Rheumatic heart disease
It is caused by one or more outbreak of rheumatic fever, which damages the
heart. In few cases, the infection affects the heart and may result in scarring
the valves, weakening the heart muscle, or damaging the sac enclosing the
heart.

2. Hypertensive heart disease
Hypertensive heart disease refers to heart problems that occur because of
high blood pressure. It may overburden the heart and blood vessels and cause
disease. These problems include Coronary artery disease and angina, Heart
Failure, Thickening of the heart muscle.

3. Ischemic heart disease
These are heart syndrome caused by the narrowing of the coronary pathway,
which will diminish the blood supply to the heart.
4. Cerebrovascular disease
It’s a condition which alters the blood flow to the brain, causing limited or no
blood flow to the affected areas of the brain.

5. Inflammatory heart disease
